Staring intently at her potion, Lux was lost in her own little world. So of course it had startled her when Professor Culloden had YELLED at the class. Seriously, what was with this man today? He seemed to be in a really bad mood, and she was more happy than ever that she had managed to stay out of trouble so far.

Frowning slightly, Lux added the next step to her notes:

At least this part was easy as all she had to do was add in the things that she had prepared in the last step. Grabbing the bowl of bloods, she poured every last drop SLOWLY into her cauldron. It was kind of creepy working with bloods and hearts, so it was a good thing all of that gross stuff was over with. IMMEDIATELY after - because he had stressed it so much - she added the crushed griffin claw.

Okay, so what came next?

Whew. Cat was glad that she had gotten everything done before the professor loudly called that the time was up now. She did, however, give Mo sympathetic girlfriend looks. Apparently he had gotten his mixing mixed up. She was very confident he would get it right, so Cat devoted her attention to her own cauldron. Picking up the bowl carefully, she added the blood very slowly. Slow blood adding wasn't as easy as it sounded but she'd managed. Then, quickly after, she added in the crushed claw and nodded to herself. Successful, right?

Eh? West looked around and then finally spotted a little Gryffindor talking to him for some reason.

"We clean our own equipment. That's the only way to be sure it doesn't get contaminated by something that might effect anything else you brew."

A laugh? Was the Professor finally starting to understand her sense of humour? Well it was about TIME Collarbi--

Oh dear sweet Merlin. Lex nearly choked on his retort but she didn't and wouldn't. That would only give him the satisfaction of spooking her--which he didn't. Detention didn't scare her, it was the sudden mention of it for answering a question. That's all she did you know. Lex blinked at him, not sure he wanted an answer but he'd said she was pressing her luck and she still didn't know what he wanted with her in his office so.......................The Prefect cleared her throat and shifted her gaze back to her cauldron.

Too many plans that couldn't happen if she was in the dungeon. Go figure.

Her eyes almost glanced back to the Professor at his sudden shout but it didn't. Nope. Perfectly trained on her cauldron. It only took three strikes to be out and as far as she was concerned she'd already hit strike two?? Unless Dima was wrong and the Professor hadn't in fact said he wanted to speak with her in his office after.

Alexa slooooowly poured the blood into the cauldron. With the last drop dropped she quickly reached for the crushed Griffin Claw and added it. It was as close to immediately as she'd be getting with this adding thing. Just saying.

And had Dima stopped sulking?




Well wasn't he a snippy one? Lex blinked at his honesty, skillfully resisting the urge to make a face, not sure it was worth commenting on. She already saw he didn't wanna ask her, thanks. In the end she disregarded it, instead choosing to wait to see whether or not he'd take the apology and be done with it. Sensitive people, honestly.

She gave a short nod confirming her repentant stance on the situation, as limited as it might be.

"Won't happen again, honest." Not when some people couldn't take a joke. "We cool then?"She took a moment to observe him before scribbling down that last step.

This kid was so very cheerful, and Toby APPROVED. He grinned at Kyroh's enthusiasm.

"I'm Toby, by the way," he said, before he heard Mo speak to Kyroh. Trying to seal his firstie, of course. But Tobias didn't really mind; as long as the little Ravenclaw was comfortable around someone and getting some work done, right? MO got a grin TOO.

Mr. Protector? Well that was a name that definitely had a ring to it. Toby watched with some degree of amusement as Kyroh moved his whole cauldron over to work in their general area. NEW FRIEND. DEFINITE NEW FRIEND. Hello friend.

OH. But they were moving on. WELL ALRIGHTY THEN.

Toby picked up his bowl of blood (ew ew eW EW EW) and s l o w l y tipped it into the cauldron, really making a meal out of doing it, like in those daytime cooking shows. Yeeeahhh. Except this didn't look appetising at all.

When the bowl was empty, he set it down again and "Pow!", in went the powdered griffin claw straight away. So far so gooooood. He looked over at Mo and Kyroh to see how they were doing.

Sophie finished up crushing the griffin claw just in time for Culloden to shout at them, as she had tried to time it properly so no time was wasted. The smell of the two kinds of blood in the air was bothering her, though, and she resisted the urge to pull her robes up over her nose to cloak the smell. Didn't want the professor looking at her like a wimp, now, did she?

She did significantly lean away from the work station as she switched the pestle in her hand out for the bowl of blood, though, in an attempt to avoid the undesirable aroma emitting from it. With steady hands, she lifted the bowl above the brim of the cauldron and sloooooooooooowly poured the blood into the potion below. When it was almost empty, she steadied the bowl with one hand and picked the metal spoon up with the other, using the spoon to scrape out as much of the blood on the sides of the bowl as she could. Finished with that, she quickly switched the bowl out for the mortar and turned it upside-down over the cauldron so all of the powdered griffin claw drifted down into the cauldron below.

Perrrrfect.

"Alright, thanks!" Ezra nodded. The boy gave a good reason at least. He was only slightly bummed because no House Elves though.

He picked up each item and used his wand to clean them. "Scourgify." It didn't work each time but he finally got it done. The older boy had seen it work though after the first try, RIGHT?

Dragon Boy was giving him waves. Enthusiastic ones but a wave nonetheless. This meant that Dragon Boy got a GENUINE smile from the Slytherin. Uh hu--

FREAKING.

What was with the yelling?! Grayson, who had jumped at the sudden sound of the man's voice, found himself staring in disbelief at the man at the front of the classroom. Jeez. He really was in a bad mood, wasn't he? Maybe there were people sitting in classrooms a couple of floors above them who had heard him too. Heh. Was he glad he hadn't gotten into trouble thus far? YEAH. 'Specially since there were some that had gotten into trouble before.

And he hasn't gotten scared, mkay?

Clearing his throat, the fourteen year old looked over at the board again. He raised an eyebrow at the capital letter but said nothing of it. Maybe he really was annoyed. He pulled the bowl of mixed blood and the mortar closer towards him. If he needed to add the powdered griffin claw 'IMMEDIATELY' after the blood mixture, then he'd rather have the two items to him as close as possible. Taking hold of the bowl, Grayson started pouring it slowly into his cauldron.

Slowly.

Very slowly.

Once the last drop of the blood mixture had been added into his cauldron, he quickly grabbed hold of the mortar and added the powdered griffin claw too.

Poor Motown. He'd get it right next time. IMAGINARY FACES BEING PULLED AT HIM. HAH.

After the five minutes was up and they'd been given their next step, Els set about it and added the blood mixture to her cauldron slowly and carefully, watching it as it went in and vacated the bowl she'd just had full. Empty bowl, empty bowl. Last feeeew little droplets of blood went in. She had no time to tick this off on her notes because: 1. She hadn't written it down and 2. the next step was required to be done straight away.

In went her powdered griffin claw, and then she checked again with the instructions the 'fessor had written that she had done everything they had been told to. No stirring or anything yet? No? Okay.

Instead she updated her notes once more and made sure to tick off the last few hectic steps.

*The sudden raised voice of the professor made Rom jump. He had to grab the table to steady himself. Right... Step 5. 5. Add the blood mixture slowly and THEN, the powdered griffin claw IMMEDIATELY. Once he finished up with these tasks he went back to cleaning.*

As soon as the professor declared that the five minutes were up, Austin was ready. He was used to working with people yelling, mainly because he would sometimes help his mom out in the hospital she worked at. People were good under pressure there, and he was proud to have picked up that trait from his mother.

He picked up the blood mixture in his right hand, and the crushed claw in the other (in their respective bowls of course). The professor said slowly with the blood first. So Austin tipped his blood mixture into the cauldron, making sure not to let it pour too fast. It took a second or two, mainly because the blood didn't run the same way water or pumpkin juice did. But Merlin's beard it was tempting to just pour the whole thing in at once. The emphasis on the 'slowly' part made Austin realize that that's what was supposed to happen, which meant that he shouldn't put it in quickly. Which meant that Austin wanted to do just that. The only thing is that he didn't know what would happen. If it were to just make a small mushroom cloud, that would be one thing. But if it were to blow up or something... well, let's just say Austin liked playing pranks, but none that would get anyone seriously injured.

Austin went back to concentrating on the blood, and once the last drop had fallen from the bowl and into the cauldron, he wasted no time dumping in the claw. Since the professor didn't specify how the claw should be put in, he just dumped it all at once. He had to admit it was very satisfying after the slow process of the blood. After putting down the bowl and mortar, Austin pulled over his notes, and wrote down the fifth step, underlining 'slowly' and 'immediately'.

Toby! That was the Hufflepuffs name. Kyroh would remember as well, he was his new friend after all.

So it was easy then. You just learned how to do the spells without saying them. Just like that? It couldn't be that hard then right? Kyroh thought about it for a second then nodded eagerly. "I'm going to just learn too then." Because he knew he could be AWESOME at magic. "I just have to remember more spells first."

Marcus? Yes. Kyroh knew that, he had heard the boy the first time. "Marcus Branxton actually." Kyroh said giving the other boy a thumbs up. See? He listened. He didn't need to be told twice. He opened his mouth to say something else when the Professor spoke. Uhoh. Marcus had stirred the whole thing the wrong way? Was he distracting him? "Sorry if I made you mess up." Kyroh whispered, frowning slightly. Because that meant MORE work for the older boy, and he was nice and Kyroh didn't want that and..awww man he was sorry.

Turning around back to his potion so he wouldn't distract Marcus again-and so you know he could do his work- Kyroh grabbed his bowl of blood. Sticking his tongue out to help him concentrate he slooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwly poured the bowl of blood in. Once most of it was in Kyroh grabbed the other thing with the crushed claw and-

"POW!" Kyroh uttered, mimicking Toby as he dumped it in, because...he was older, and his protector. So he definitely was doing stuff right, right? Leaning forward Kyroh took a sniff of the potion.

......

Eh...."Smells like death." Yup.

Scribbling the newest bit of info into his notes Kyroh turned and grinned at Marcus. "Alright, Mo!" He had made TWO new friends and he hadn't even had to touch a dragon's heart, so of course he was alright!

Hearing the Professor say it was time Bay was completed shocked, five minutes went bay to fast. Picking up his blood mixture he added it slowly to his potion as instructed, now came the fast part to quickly add his powdered griffin claw. Once that was in he felt like he was handling some sort of explosion due to the Professor's tone with the "Immediately" GULP hopefully he added it quickly enough that nothing would happen.

Quickly glancing around to see if anyone's potions were acting up he saw that so far so good. He felt safe-ish to not pay attention to anything around him, only his own cauldron so he could write his notes. "please nothing happen, please, please and please" he thought.

Woah woah woah.

It seemed all of a sudden they were doing too many things at once, at least in Benny's mind and the third year was writing furiously in his notes. The boy wanting to make sure each and every instruction the professor was giving was carefully and correctly written down to copy. It was when this happened that the chances of mistake were higher so he was trying to limit his worries. Then taking a deep breath, the Gryffindor start forth to begin them all.

First and foremost...lowering the heat under the cauldron which he did with a move of his wand. Glancing then at his watch, Benny calculated the 5 minutes he would need to wait before moving on to the other steps. "Scourgify," he cast on a bowl, a cup and a spoon as previously directed, glancing again at his watch as he was done. Still plenty of time and everything was plenty clean so on to the next part.

One portion of re’em blood and one portion of salamander blood, each poured into the scourgified bowl. Then taking the spoon he had cleaned as well, he stirred the mixture, first 5 times clockwise and then 5 times counter clockwise. The third year extra careful on his directional stiring remembering the trouble he had had last year. “Scourgify,” he cast once more on his mortar and pestle before placing the griffin claw within to start crushing it.

No magic here, just good old elbow grease.

Once it was fairly powdered, the professor called time. It was time for the hardest part where it had to be done precise and without fail. Putting aside the pestle, Benny took the bowl in one hand and the mortar in the other so they could be done right after each other without hesitation to pick the second up. Then he took a deep breath and started to slowly pour the blood mixture as directed. And when it was finally finished, with the mast drop added, the Gryffindor quickly added the powdered griffin claw. Perhaps even a little too quickly.

It was nothing to be ashamed of? Did Professor Culloden even know what it was? Gwen nodded at his comment, secretly disagreeing. And then Adrienne-not-Aydrienne offered to let her use her notes.

"Thanks Adrienne," Gwen said shyly, leaning over to see the older girls notebook. She was still back on step two so there was a lot of catching up to do. Tracing her finger under Adrienne's words, Gwen read step two. Turn the heat to high and add the dragon heart. "Incendio," she lit the fire under her cauldron and added in the dragon heart that Culloden had measured out for everyone.

Now she had to wait until it boiled, which surprisingly didn't take that long. Add Pomegranate. The whole thing? No cutting it or squeezing it? Okay. Gwen plunked the fruit into the potion, which was now a sort of purpley red from all of the red stuff they were putting into it.

Turn the heater to medium and wait for five minutes. In the meantime, mix re’em and salamander blood in a bowl and stir them five times clockwise and five times counter clockwise and crush griffin claw. Gwen lowered the heat on her fire. She was nearly caught up to everyone. Except for that now she had five whole minutes to wait while they moved on.

She glanced at her watch, noting the time. Five minutes. Really, Adrienne was an angel for letting Gwen use her notes. It was so much easier to read than the swimming letters on the board.

The twelve year old cleaned a bowl and mixed the bloods together, then crushed the griffin claw in a separate bowl. That only took two minutes. Now she had to wait three more minutes before she could pour them in.

Taking the blood mixture carefully and lifting it over the cauldron, Zander slowly poured it in. Happy professor? He's being careful. VERY CAREFUL. Didn't want to make Professor Grumpy Pants angry again. No that would be bad. Now for the powder claw. So much pouring. Zander felt so professional. Heh.

Abel sat there staring at him with a slight shocked expression. Was every teacher this mean? He hadn't even MET Abel yet! "Yes sir, I'll try again." This was the only thing he could muster out right now. He had no idea that real school would be like this. If every class was like this he would debate going back to homeschooling. He looked back at the box with the heart, trying to decide if he should try again or go with the water... Would it knock him down a grade? He tried to steal a glance at what everyone else was doing. However they didn't seem to help him much if he still didn't know what he was doing. Starting over, he measured out the water, turned on the heat, separated unicorn hairs, and then he had to decide.

Well.... Let's take the easy route and add the cup of water instead. 1...2....3....4....5....6...7...8....9...10....11. ...12...13...14....15...16....17....18! Okay, let's add the pomegranate. Once he had carefully read the board over again for the 5th time, he looked for the re'em and Salamander blood. After finding their location, Abel lowered his heat and began to stir the re'em and blood 'Five times clockwise.' He thought as he was doing so. 'Five times counter-clockwise.' Done. He glanced at his watch to see that he had little time to crush his griffin claw. Without further ado, he made haste to prepare before he reached his time.

Lucky it was ground up enough to be suitable for his potion when he reached the end of his five minutes. He looked back at the board for only a moment to confirm what he knew was next. 'Add the blood, then the griffin claw.' He recited to himself in his head again. Okay he didn't notice any problems yet this time. So that was good. Let's see what comes next.

Cris decided that since he was waiting for the next instructions, he would clean up what items he had used so far. Laying his mortar and pestle, the metal stirring spoon, measuring cup and cup, in front of him, he first pointed his wand inside the mortar and saying, "Scourgify," and cleaned it. Then he moved on to the next in line until he had cast the Scouring charm on all of them.

Ending the spell, he holstered his wand, and carefully inspected each one of them to make sure they were carefully cleaned. Satisfied he had done a good job, Cris glanced over at the girl he had been assisting earlier. He could have helped her fill her cauldron with water, but somehow he had a feeling the Professor wouldn't have approved of that. Cris hoped that Angel had somehow mastered the spell by now. If not, using the water from the tap would be her best solution.

For some reason, Lily hadn’t noticed how quiet it had gotten in the classroom until the calm had been split by Professor Culloden literally yelling that time was up. The sound had actually made her jump a little, before she’d instinctively checked her watch. It wasn’t that she questioned his judgment, since there hopefully was no reason to, but she wanted to make sure that it had actually been five minutes by her count. She might’ve started seconds later than his time, but she’d glanced back at the board as her watch had signaled that it had been five minutes. Now she knew for sure that time was up, and that meant it was time for the next step. The next step that logically should have been coming, after all. She doubted that they’d been instructed to mix the bloods and crush the claw just to amuse him. If that had been the case, there would have been no reason for him to have made Mo do the blood step a second time, since she knew exactness was usually important when it came to potions. Not amusing the professors.

On that note, it was time to add the mixed blood in her bowl to the potion, slowly. Slow wasn’t going to be a problem, anyway. She doubted it would move very fast. Lifting the bowl carefully, she tipped it over her cauldron and watched the liquid spill over the edge. She took her time in gradually tipping the bowl more, and eventually the blood was added to the potion. The next part was more anxiety ridden, seeing as she couldn’t ignore the capitalization of the instruction. The crushed claw needed to be added immediately, and she wasn’t planning on failing now. Before she could even put the empty bowl down, she’d reached for her mortar with her other hand and dumped the claw into her cauldron. That had to be immediately enough. She couldn’t have moved any faster, but now she could relax a little. She’d added the ingredients, so now all that was left was waiting for the next step. Odds are it was the last, as she’d slid her journal over to add the step she’d just concluded to her notes and noticed there was only one ingredient left.

Leah was starting to wonder if the five minutes were going to over by the time she had somehow got a watch, when someone approached from behind and spoke.

"Adi! Oh, this is not the feast!" she pretended to act all surprised. "Oh my gosh, thank you so much, you just saved my life." The second year patted Adi's back. "You could leave it here, I'll make sure I'll take good care of it." Meaning that she was actually very clumsy but she would try her best.

Glancing at the watch, Leah scourgified a bowl before mixing the re'em and salamander blood she had already prepared in it. Five times clockwise... five times anti-clockwise. The girl really did not understand the point of doing it this way, it was going back to the original status. But she immediately understood, it made a huge difference.

Then Leah got a griffin claw, which sounded like something in between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw, and crushed it well. She peeked at the watch and found out that she only had a minute left. Luckily she was quite strong and was able to crush the claw into a powder soon.



The next step came immediately. Leah did not even have time to return Adi's watch. At least it was easy. The girl lifted her bowl slowly, brought it over her cauldron slowly, and poured the mixture in slowly. She actually hated doing things slowly, and was happy when the last of the mixture was inside her cauldron.

Now, the claw immediately! Leah put down the bowl, grabbed the mortar and added the powdered claw in. Super-duper quickly. Then, seeing that the professor did not give out instructions yet, scooted over to Adi and handed him the watch. "Here you go, Adi! I'll call you for help if I have problems with my potion, is that okay?" she whispered.

Things were really starting to move along now. Michael picked up his wand when the Professor gave them instructions for step four. He pointed his wand at the flame and reduced the heat to medium. He then set his watch to time the five minutes that was required. While the timer was ticking, he cleaned his bowl, cup and spoon before heading to the front and pouring the re'em and salamander blood into the bowl. He then returned to his desk where he stirred the blood five times clockwise and then five times counter clockwise. Once that was done, he crushed up the griffin claw in his mortar and pestle, he managed to get it to a reasonable powder before his timer went off.



He picked up the bowl that contained the mixed re'em and salamander blood and slowly added it to his cauldron. Once the bowl was empty of all the blood, Michael picked up the mortar and added the powdered griffin claw to the cauldron.

All done.

For now.

Angel was still trying to catch up really hard, but she was starting to think she wasn't cut out for potions one bit. "Aguamenti." Angel said quietly and sighed nothing happened. "Aguamenti!" Angel beamed as the water suddenly started fulling the cauldron up, she then used the finite spell she had learned and beamed, she was enjoying this so much.

Angel then added the unicorn tail hairs one by one. "Okay Chris, I've done that." Angel was glad but she had no idea what she had to do next, it was really, really hard.

And this was why Trent tended to be honest with his phobia. It was clearly the best thing to do.

With a appreciate nod at the Professor who was suddenly at his side, Trent swallowed the lump in his throat before speaking. "I can look away while you add in the blood, sir, and probably just get started on crushing the griffin claw." Just so he wasn't entirely useless throughout the process. He grabbed the mortar and pestle, ready to do the deed. Yet before he actually began pulverizing the claw, Trent cocked his head at the Professor and said, "Thank you for the help, Professor." His respect for the man had definitely just turned up more than a few more notches.

Breathing easier now because he wouldn't have to deal with the b-word, the Ravenclaw commenced crushing the griffin claw.

Kevin checked his watch to see what the time was and if it was already over when the Professor yelled to the class to get their attention. He jumped , obviously feeling shocked at the sudden voice and he took a deep breath as he held his hand against his chest. His heart was beating fast now, stupid man! He very quickly calmed down though and went to do the next step of instructions.

He grabbed the bowl from the side of his working space and slowly added the blood mixture in to the cauldron. He then reached for the mortar with the crushed claw and added it in the cauldron as well. This potion was so easy~! Was he getting extra credit for behaving in class and not messing it up on purpose? hmmmm? weeellll?

They were almost done! That meant she'd almost completed her very FIRST potion and that felt really good. Leo always teased that she'd never be able to keep up in Potions cause HE was the self-proclaimed potions wiz of the family BUT she was going to prove him SO WRONG. YUP. Determined Maddie was determined. Determined Maddie ALSO had more things to do if she wanted to make sure her potion was finished.

Blood mixture. Maddie picked up her bowl and slooooooowly poured the blood into her cauldron. Ingredients
2 kilograms of dragon heart (a few grams more/less doesn’t matter)
1 pomegranate
A cup of re’em blood
One mature salamander’s blood
2 unicorn tail hairs
Powdered griffin claw
2 snake fangs

Steps
1.Add 2 litres of water and the unicorn tail hairs one by one
2.Turn the heat to high and add the dragon heart
3.Wait until it boils and add pomegranate
4.Turn the heater to medium and wait for five minutes. In the meantime, mix re’em and salamander blood in a bowl and stir them five times clockwise and five times counter clockwise and crush griffin claw.
5.Add the blood mixture slowly and THEN, the powdered griffin claw IMMEDIATELY.
