| | of Professor Culloden As you enter the room, the first thing you see in the middle of the room is a hand-made Turkish carpet and nothing else. To the immediate right of the door stands a coat hanger for four coats a time, and you are expected to hang your coat there before fully entering the room. Professor's desk and two chairs in front of it are located at the right end with three pictures hanging from the wall, and his bookcase and 'emergency potions' shelves with a representational potion brewing set are located at the left end of the room. The walls are painted light blue. The desk and visitors' set look expensive, and they indeed are. They are from genuine mahogany, all cut from the same wood. There is usually a big pile of papers hastily arranged at the farther side of the desk, and you will always see a potion phial and a book on the more organised side. Behind it is his office chair, and in front of it are two comfortable looking armchairs with a coffee table between them. You'll find a bowl of sweets that is filled with cheering up potion that will last for approximately three hours. Go on, take a cherry, apple, orange or lemon flavoured. Be careful not to take the last lemon though, because they are his favourite.
To the right side of the wall behind the desk hangs a picture depicting a Mardin, Midyat house with smiling kids sometimes singing a song and sometimes playing a game. To the left is a painting depicting Afghanistan with an old wizard at the centre of it. He is brewing a mysterious potion and will be more than happy to speak to you in Persian, but he just smiles upon asking about what he is doing. He was a respected wizard of Afghanistan, and Professor Culloden paid a fortune for the painting, so act accordingly. Beneath them in the middle hangs a picture of Borneo rainforests with birds and insects. If you are lucky, you will be treated with a birds lullaby and if you are unlucky, the insects will drill your brains with their buzzing sound.
The middle is only occupied by a handmade Turkish rug. While you may step on it, you will land yourself in detention faster than you can say 'potion' if those shoes are muddy or wet.
At the other end of the room is a bookcase full of books about potions, both muggle and magical plants and animals. Don't be surprised if you see your professor's name on 3-4 of them. Depending on how much he likes you, he may lend them to you.
On the shelves next to the bookcase stands his golden, representational potions brewing set and a few phials full of different potions. Along with the carpet and pictures, the set is his most prized possession.
If you can find him in his office, you are 'okay' to pay a visit.

Toby took the book back again and immediately flipped to the first page to see what Culloden had wrote. He vaguely registered Sophie speaking up beside him, sounding more or less back to normal and confident as ever. He'd just finished reading the last few words and looked up again, when suddenly Soph had hold of his hand. "Huh? Wha- oh yeah, right. Let's go." The Hufflepuff grinned yet again, certain that if his teeth could do that TV twinkle thing, they'd be doing it right now. With the book still in his other hand, Toby gave a wave to Culloden whilst Soph dragged pulled him towards the door. "Later, sir!"
Tobias turned back to the door again and pulled it open before heading out, totally oblivious to Sophie and Culloden's silent interaction.
OKAY. Now they needed some privacy so they could, uhh, actually discuss the stuff Culloden had asked about. Gosh.

"Good day, Professor. I thought I'd... that is to say... I brought you some of the pictures I developed with that potion you gave me. I thought you might be interested in the results of your tweaks to the potion."

"Good day, Professor. I thought I'd... that is to say... I brought you some of the pictures I developed with that potion you gave me. Mo would keep it short and sweet, although Cosgrach had no idea why -
Oh. OH! Cosgrach's face soooooftened and he smiled. This clearly pleased him - how the boy'd USED it, kept his promise and actually took the time to show him. Such thoughtful actions ALWAYS cheered up and pleased this grumpy old man. He gestured him to sit and got up from his seat to sit at the other armchair for a better interaction without his massive table between them. "That's very thoughtful," he said softly - it was impressive how he could be sliiiightly cheerful so quickly. His tone was still a little sad, and that wouldn't change until he could have some owls and much less snow. |

That brought a smile to the professor's face, and Mo took that as encouragement to step forward and begin unpacking his portfolio on the professor's desk. Loads of pictures, actually, and probably more than anyone other than Mo would care to look at. Landscapes, candid shots, portraits, and object studies. All of them sorted into tidy piles according to some system that only Mo understood, and when he was finished, he stepped back.
"So the ones on the left I developed in the normal potion, and the ones on the left I developed in the potion you gave me. I tried to do a couple of different types of things so you could look at color, clarity, and how well the objects move about in each. Like... here are some shots of the firsties having a snowball fight. They blur a bit when in motion with the regular potion, but it catches their motion better when I used yours." Just... that was a lot of words. Shut up, Mo.

He then slowly nodded as he looked up at the boy. "So it works," he said with a smile, "I was worried that the difference wouldn't be so significant, but I'm glad it's visible." He picked up different two pictures and he was careful to put the old ones back in their previous pack. He examined those too, and quickly scanned every photo Mo'd put on his table. "Hey, we can earn lots with this," he said lightly, "because everyone's convinced the recipe in use is the best one, no one bothers to experiment, y'know?" Not this man. "It's a simple change and easier to brew. So I can give you the recipe and you can publish it as your own discovery. Or keep it to your own. I don't mind." He shrugged and grinned. "I'm just glad this works and you're happy with it too." |

"I'm just glad this works and you're happy with it too." Mo held his breath as Culloden looked over his photos, only letting out a little squeak of air when the man finally spoke. Here was truly a Potions Master... so interested in the efficacy of his potion that he didn't bother to actually look at any of the photos. Not that Mo minded; he sort of admired the single-mindedness of the Professor. Had to have been a Ravenclaw.
As for publishing, that was the last thing on Mo's mind. Why would he take credit for someone else's work? Mo tilted his head thoughtfully before responding to the professor's suggestion. "I like experiments, sir. My father is a Potions Master, you know? Maybe we could write an article together and publish it with some of my photos? I'd really like to see my photos in print." Just so he knew where Mo's priorities lay.
"You can keep this pile." Mo tapped one of the smaller piles, complete with pictures of the castle and grounds, a few of Sophie and her friends, and one rather daring one of the Great Hall from above that Mo would never explain.

| ¼ of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pls Cosgrach couldn't tell if Mo was being polite to HIM or if he was truly, honestly denying the chance to be somewhat rich. Whatever the reason, it pleased the man, though he was careful not to show it. So the boy 90% cared about his photos... was he going to be a photographer? Better ask for future reference. "I didn't know that. I don't know most of the potioneers here, because I didn't live here until about last year." When he kind of had to return to the country after centuries. "But I'd like to meet your father. There are quite a lot of potioneer families." Like Beverly, Kevin, Newells and now Mo. He wondered if there were more. Possibly. "So we can write an article together and share our talents with the outer world." He grinned, then. Heh. He'd like that.
He got to keep the pile? Sweet! He kept himself from looking at which pictures in contained. He could do that when Mo left. Instead... "Thank you, I really appreciate it. So, do you want to be a photographer?" |

That was just... really impressive restraint. "This used to be his office. Professor Doyle Branxton." Just... why are you still talking, Branxton? Now it sounded like he was bragging, and he wasn't trying to brag.
HE WAS FEELING SO NERVOUS ALL OF A SUDDEN.
"Um. Yeah, I'd like to write the article together. I... I'd like to be a photographer, although I dunno that I'm good enough yet. I've put in some applications to study it at university, and I've taken some workshops." And he'd had a show at one of the workshops, but that seemed like bragging again, and Mo was already saying stupid stuff, so he just... shut up.

He was? Occupying Mo's dad's office? Teaching his course? And Mo wanted to write the article together?
Cosgrach was speechless for a moment. He didn't know why, because when Sophie'd told him Mrs. Lafay was her grandmother, it sounded as if it was a pretty casual thing. This... didn't sound casual at all. He'd felt only a little bit of pressure then, but now it felt like Mo'd been judging him all along. He blinked, shook his head and chuckled softly as if he'd been thinking something else. If Mo bothered to do his homework and come to classes, then it meant he liked the way Cosgrach taught the course? "I hope I am teaching as well as your father," he said with a smile, and tried to shake that feeling off. "So I'd like that too, working on an article together." And Cosgrach wasn't even going to admit he didn't know there was a photography major in universities. "I hope you are accepted and do the best for yourself." |

I never attended a class that he taught, but I imagine you're doing more than your share of holding up the good name of Hogwarts." And probably in an entirely different way. Mo's father was precise and quiet and intense, and Culloden had a more magnanimous personality. And occasionally was very cranky. "You should have had my sisters in class, sir. They were both ace at Potions. I think it's an interesting subject, and dead useful, but I think they're better at it."
He accepted the well wishes with a polite nod, even as he was gathering up the rest of his photos. All except the pile that he was leaving for the professor. "I'd like to work with you too, sir. Maybe we can see how it reacts to different exposures and things. See if it's always the more effective of the two potions, you know?" Mo tapped the pictures on the desk and tucked them into a portfolio. "I'm sorry I've taken up so much of your time. Can we talk about this again sometime?"

Cosgrach admitted that much: he was relieved. "I'm happy that you think so." He was casual about it, though. Mo didn't have to know Cosgrach doubted himself for only one single, short moment.
Weren't they a talented family, now. At times like these, Cograch wished he hadn't fled left the country. He certainly had to know more people. "I hope I'll have that chance one day." To meet all the Branxtons. Newells, Hirases and Waynes as well. He grinned. "You're definitely great at the subject too." One of his best students, though, yes, not the best. He was also glad Mo liked it, though. Made his life easier, as well as filled his heart with pride.
Cosgrach nodded all the way - being the ignorant about photography, it didn't even occur to him the light might change the potion's effect. "You haven't taken my time at all," he smiled broadly, "but of course, we can speak the details later." The man had aaaaall the time in life - being stuck at the castle was great! "Have a nice day, then." And his hands went to the pile he'd left for him to examine those. |

| Charms Homework - Post #2. We have permission! be curious, not judgmental When Sophie approached the door of Culloden's office, she knew there was no point in knocking and greeting the professor - she had just seen him on another floor and made a beeline straight for his office to carryout her homework assignment. She knew Culloden was a smart man, but had he used the Insulating Charm on his office? Her instincts told her no, as his office was as cold as could be all the time, so she was going to help him out and take care of him while also getting her schoolwork done. Totally smart of her, right?
Her original intentions were to just cast the charm on the door - which she did with a wave of her wand and a murmuring of "Caelum Saepio" - because she thought even just insulating the door would help keep lots of the cold air out. But then, on impulse, she tried the handle to push the door open.
......And it opened.
He'd forgotten to lock his office.
Her chestnut eyes sparkling with delight, Soph didn't hesitate to march into the man's office with glee, shutting the door behind her before her gaze turned to the contents of the man's desk for those were the only things that seemed to have changed since the other day when she had visited him. None of the papers looked particularly interesting upon closer inspection, though, so she backtracked and got to work casting the charm on the light blue wall to the right of the door. "Caelum Saepio. Caelum Saepio. Caelum Saepio." With each cast, she traced her wand in the shape of a sideways number eight, starting from the bottom of the wall all the way up to where it met the ceiling, being sure that the soft fog emitting from her wand covered every inch of the stone. She navigated around the coat hanger, shelves, and paintings and occasionally tried to aim the charm behind the objects as she moved around the room clockwise. She lingered often, peering at the paintings and various phials as she passed them until she was working on the wall directly behind Culloden's desk.
The temptation to peek through the man's desk was great. But she could resist.
Soph plopped down in the man's comfy chair, propped her shoes up on his desk, and considered waiting there for him. It'd be a funny sight, for him to open his office door and see his favorite student sitting there in his chair like she owned the place. She figured it would make him laugh, but just in case he came back in a bad mood, she decided she didn't want to linger too long and get caught in there. Her mission was to get in and get out and leave the office with sufficient insulation that the man would notice a difference and find some relief from the cold. That was all.
Before she was going to stand back up and finish the last half of the room, she did pick up his quill, dip it in ink, and wrote neatly in the corner of a piece of parchment that didn't look important, 'Sophie was here!' It was so small that maybe he'd see it, maybe he wouldn't, but if he did see it and know she had been there, at least she wouldn't have to face his wrath right away, right? Hehe. Abandoning the desk, the Ravenclaw resumed casting the charm on the wall from bottom to top, moving sideways and making sure she didn't accidentally bump anything - even though most of the things in the room seemed pretty sturdy, she didn't want to accidentally break something, especially a glass phial containing a potion. "Caelum Saepio," she repeated all the way until she got back to her starting point of the door and hesitated for a brief moment, watching the last of the fog fade away.
Byeeeee, Culloden's office. She gave the room a little wave and departed, closing the door behind her and storing away the newly discovered information that sometimes Culloden didn't lock his office door for future pranking purposes.

The whole world knew Cosgrach Culloden lived for the effect of surprise, and Kyroh's were always among his favourite. Kyroh shuffled into the office, more hesitant than ever. His shirt was still bunched up in his hands and his mouth suddenly felt very dry. Culloden had SMILED at him but he hadn't been smiling before? Brown eyes travelled around the room that he had uh...technically entered before. Kyroh did not sit down though.
