A large honey-colored wood table is set up to the far side of the room, the perfect place to study or even just leisure read. And should you find yourself lacking inspiration, portraits of several outstanding brains of former Hufflepuffs through the centuries line the walls in this area. These fine minds also bear the hallmark of those traditional of Hufflepuffs, including qualities of patience, a strong work ethic, and constancy.
Some of these portraits include Nymphadora Tonks, Cedric Diggory, and even Zacharias Smith, flying on his broomstick. And of more modern Hufflepuffs, there are portraits of former prefects such as Savannah Mae, Nolan Reynolds, Leo Moretti, and then some outstanding quidditch plays of Evan Cassels scoring another goal on Slytherins and then Kita Lewis, snatching the snitch right from Ellie Stone's nose just several terms ago now!
Hufflepuffs may have that myth floating around that we're not clever, but that is a MYTH. Hufflepuffs are definitely though, the least boastful, the most modest, but have also produced just as many brilliant witches and wizards as any other house. In addition to those named above, there's also Grogan Stump, one of the most popular Ministers for Magic of all time, as were the successful Ministers Artemesia Lufkin and Dugald McPhail. Then there’s the world authority on magical creatures, Newt Scamander; Bridget Wenlock, the famous thirteenth-century Arithmancer who first discovered the magical properties of the number seven, and Hengist of Woodcroft, who founded the Hogsmeade village.
The shelves lining the study area are well-stocked with reading material for all classes, and supplies of spare parchments, ink and quills. But enough about former outstanding Hufflepuffs; I do hope some of you are willing to work hard and use these study tables wisely. After all, we've got an elusive house cup defend and after so many years, I'd hate to see it given up so easily .....
She laughed slightly at his reaction, “Hey, not my fault I don’t have any of the yellow cards.” She smiled weakly and looked at him, “But I guess it can be… Green now.” Anna nodded and looked up at him as he talked about Emmy. She shrugged slightly, It might sound odd but she was really fine anymore with the idea of being alone, just in general. She hadn’t seen Mel all summer and she hadn’t made any new friends at her orphanage… Maybe she was just made to be an outcast, “Maybe so.”
She looked at him and just shook her head slightly, “Kace, I’ve just come to accept the fact that I’m not really the type of person who should have friends… I mean, Mel and you… Romulus every now and again… But aside from that I’ve never really talked to anyone here.” Annaleecia shrugged, “And that’s not a bad thing to me. It just seems like maybe I don’t need to have the friends aspect… or I’m not supposed to. Not saying I don’t want to talk to you.” She added the last part quickly. She didn’t mind talking at all, but she just didn’t want to bother anyone.
Alright so it was green now. "Yeah sure.." he said not believing she had any yellow cards. He wondered if he had any green cards. But he didn't so he drew one card from the deck. "Now you go missy.." he smiled. When he heard her explanation about not having friends and accepted being alone, he nodded and accepted it. He wouldn't fight her about it. "Well i am happy i can be considered one of your friends then.." he winked and waited for her to take her turn. "But you know if you have any problems you can always come to me.." he told her seriously.

Anna smiled and laid down her card, not being truly men.... yet anyways. She laughed slightly though, "I swear to you Kace I've got no yellow cards." If it would't give her hand away she'd show him to swear by it... but then she'd have no fun with the other random cards that didn't have numbers on them to surprise him with. She looked at him as he said it was a happy thing to be her friend... Really? It was fun to be friends with a girl who felt all alone and couldn't find anything to be happy about? That didn't seem like a very good friend to have to her, but if he was happy she wasn't going to complain about it. She nodded to what he said though, "I know I can..." She glanced away slightly though, she just didn't wat to bother him.

"A likely story.." he teased her again. He finally got a green card and put a draw two down. "Now you draw two.." he gave her a sly grin. He nodded and was confident she can. "I am sure you can I have faith in you." he smiled kindly towards her. "But enough about that.." he said waiting for her to take her turn. "I am sure you will find the perfect guy, sorry i wasn't the one for you." he teased and joked with her just a little bit.
Okay. He had his books. He had his homework. He had his heavily doodled notes. He had his snacks. Toby was ready to work.
....... Except he totally wasn't. Every time Tobias pulled a homework assignment and its corresponding textbook towards him, it was all of ten seconds before he became distracted with tapping a rhythm out with his quill or watching that portrait of Cedric Diggory try to fix his hair. And when he wasn't getting distracted by noticing other things, he became much more aware of being energetic and agitated and it wasn't going a w a y.
Maybe he had to go at this from a completely different angle. Literally.
Propping one of the books up against the rest, Toby stood and moved his chair over a little, making sure to push it under the table again so nobody tripped over it or anything.
And then... he began running on the spot, as fast as he could.
Okay, suuuuuuuuuuuuuure, he couldn't actually see the words in the book anymore on account of he was moving and it was not, but it was at least helping to sort of take care of the agitation problem. Maybe Toby could just run here for a few minutes and then try again.

Once again, Elodie had spent two hours (maybe a little more this time...) looking for Meatball, and once again she had given up and returned to her Common Room. If he liked roaming as much as he seemed to, she was going to leave him to it and let him get his run of the castle before they were leaving. For good. Y'know. Final goodbyes and that. Sigh. She was positive she'd promised Lux she'd meet her later that day in their common room to read something together or help out with some sort of school things. She wasn't sure they'd get anything done though.. Els was certain she'd inform the younger girl about everything Candice and baby related.
Everything.
She wasn't left with much time to consider how she'd spend her time with Lux later, because.... someone was using their study area as a gym, it seemed.
For a moment, she watched to see if she could tell who it was... Yet the movement from the running left her clueless and then she looked away with a shake of her head. It was a kid. Younger than her by enough of an age gap that it wasn't acceptable to use the running on the spot as an appreciative art form and he wasn't exactly wearing shorts or anything.
Kids.
Gosh.
Maybe she was going blind in this almost-adultdom, but it didn't matter.
"Your lace is undone, kid."
Was it really though? Nah. Had she maybe used her wand to undo it? He'd find out.
Alright time to make his valentine's day card. He saw the list of professor's on the notice board. Well he was a capricorn right? He was going to make one for the headmistress. He looked down the list to make sure and realized she was one. She seemed always nice and he felt he needed to give her a card. Now onto making the card. He wondered how he was gonna make it. Would be put hearts on it? Would he say something cheesy? Nah he really wasn't for that. He wasn't even cheesy with his own girlfriend. He was just quick witted.
He went up to his dormitory to get his colored pencils and stencils and was prepared to create his card.

There suddenly came a voice close enough to Toby that he both 1. heard it and 2. immediately guessed it was directed at him. Tobias stopped his on-the-spot running and looked around to see one of the Hufflepuff prefects, whom he recognised by face and by title, but not by name.
"It is?" He looked down at his shoes to find that one of his laces did seem a little looser. He crouched to undo and re-tie the offending lace. "Thanks for letting me know! That could have ended badly." As he finished up, Toby looked up again and grinned thankfully at the older girl, whilst in his mind that usual question of 'Friend?' cropped up yet again. Maybe? Maybe.
For now though, he had to keep moving, so Toby straightened again and started doing star jumps this time, as though this was all regular studying protocol.

Badly? She laughed a little and nodded. "Could have ended with you hitting your face on that chair you're not sitting on." The one he probably should be sitting on. The one normal people sat on when they were at the table. Unless they were Lux and they were resting in her lap. That was a thing, apparently. Chairs were for sitting. That, she knew she was right on. Whether sitting was the right way, on your legs, upside down or on a spinny chair... chairs were the sitting aid. Straight backs and all.
She dodged to the side to avoid the extended arms of the star jumper and sat herself atop the table, and reached for one of his textbooks that weren't open. She'd flick through and watch him. Just in case his laces had another accident.
Accident.
With a grin, she turned a couple of pages, and let her hand go under the table with her wand to undo his laces again and tie them together.
Had she perfected this? Ohhhh yes.
First years had been the initial victims. And now it was everyone. Huzzah.

"Yup, sure could!" That may or may not have been a hint towards a question about why Toby was not sitting on that chair, but if that was the case... the boy in question didn't appear to notice that at all. He just carried on star jumps, and instead of looking at the open book in front of him, watched the Hufflepuff prefect as she began rifling through one of his books.
He was ABOUT to explain that he was, in fact, doing homework right now, and may have asked the older girl if she remembered having the fourth year workload (which was the most homework he'd ever been faced with) when suddenly...
FLAIL!WHAM
Suddenly, Toby disappeared from view and was facedown on the floor. He'd managed to avoid hitting his head or breaking any bones or surrounding furniture, which was his immediate concern, but he was... dazed. What? How? Huh.
After his initial confusion, Toby figured he must have just stumbled (and didn't consider the fact that on that last jump his feet had felt a little too secure) and made to stand up again. He didn't get far; one second, an arm and the top half of his face had reappeared over the desk, and the next, he'd made the 'OH-NO-I'M-FALLING' face again and dropped back out of sight. This time he grabbed out for something to help him regain his balance, and his hand found one of his stacks of books.
Which were then promptly pulled down on top of him.
...
"Ow."

She hadn't even gotten through a paragraph when she heard the thud or what she assumed was a broken teenager and his bones. Crawling forward, she peeked over the edge of the table, leaning back onto her legs as he started to get back up and covered her mouth not to laugh at him. However, the laughing wasn't controlled when a pile of books went in the same direction as he had gone and she could just imagine the hurt he was having at this very moment. Book hurt. And not the hurt you got after you finished a really good book and felt lost, or when one of your favourites died in a novel. Nope. Actual physical book related hurt.
Hehehhe.
She leant forward and giggled, waiting for him to surface properly from the books and the floor with a grin on her face. She was a brilliant Prefect. Gosh, she should have been given an award for it. Elodie Robertser: Most Awesome Prefect Ever.
"Y'alright down there, rugrat? Need a hand?" Was he going to try get up again and fall? Oh, she'd probably cry laughing at that.

The chair. The chair would help him. Toby reached out for said chair in an attempt to try and pull himself up so he could sit down again, hopefully without all the catastrophic falling over. It was just over the older girl spoke up that he finally managed to heave himself up from the floor and into a sitting position, looking dazed and confused.
"I got it," he said, holding up a hand to show just how in control of the situation he was. Not."I'm okay. I'm cool."
But WHAT had happened? Toby only needed to glance down at his feet to find that out. It was his laces, of course, which had somehow ended up tied together. Toby looked up at the prefect and smiled yet again.
"Guess my laces must've got... tangled up," he announced, leaning forwards to try and untie them again. In reality, he must have known that that was almost impossible, but if he suspected the prefect, Toby didn't let it show. When his laces were retied, though, he decided to remain sitting.
Oh boy. Books everywhere. A couple at a time, Toby started piling them back onto the desk.

He was cool? Well oooooookay. She sat back yet again and nodded. "Must have. Mighty unfortunate." Maybe next time he'd use the chair like most people did and not make her think she potentially had someone to watch whilst doing physical activity. She didn't though. Nothing to watch. No one to enjoy. Maaaan, school was boring now. Could someone get insanely hot and give her a reason to ask for cuddles? Someone that she could cuddle and pay attention to, y'know? Not one of those taken ones. Nor the emotionally unstable ones. And most definitely not Connor Jones, because that was a situation worthy of television drama.
And he was an idiot.
And his friends were more idiotic than he was.
UGH.
"Why do you have so many books out? You know it's hellish to try study everything at one time? On top of the dramatic jumping and falling thing you were doing." Just sayin'. If he couldn't stay on his feet, then he clearly wasn't getting any amount of decent work done.
She'd probably gotten more done in the few moments she'd been skim reading his textbook.

Oblivious to any and all inner monologue that the Hufflepuff prefect was dealing with, Toby finally retrieved the last of the books from the floor and moved his chair in closer to the table so he could try to start procrastinating re-organising them. He was, yet again, thankful for a further distraction in the form of conversation.
Heh. Yeah, she was right, but it was all kinda... no straightforward. Basics then.
"Well, I managed to get super behind, like in classes and homework and stuff," Toby explained, opting for the 'long story short' version and still looking cheerful all the while as he thumbed the edges of the pages on a particularly big book. "So I need to catch up, then do regular studying." Ehhhhh. "But I'm no good at concentrating, and I get really fidgety, so I figured if I tried running or jumping..." See? It was all very logical.
"The falling wasn't part of the plan, though."
Now, where was his list of homework assignments? With that now on his mind, Toby started rifling through the pages of all the different tomes. He failed to realise that that particular scrap of parchment had hit the deck along with him, and had floated to its new home underneath his chair.

Oh.
He'd gotten behind.
With a nod, she shared her blatant understanding of getting behind in classes and whatnot, but definitely not the fidgety thing. "Ah.... You..can't stop that with a potion or something?" Was it a sugar thing? Did he have too much sugar? Was he a coffee drinker? All the questions. She had all of the questions, and she was just going to consider every option as to why he was so wiggly and how it had gotten to the point where the only fun in her day was tying a rugrats laces together so they fell over. She hadn't anticipated the books falling onto him though.
So not.
"I assumed the falling wasn't planned... I'd be exceptionally worried if it was... - Are you looking for something?" Had he lost a book or something? On second thoughts...how did someone lose a book? She was sure she had never lost one herself.

Maybe.
She may not have noticed though.
Toby couldn't help but give a half-wry, half-knowing smile at the talk of getting a potion to help him out.
"'M'working on it," he assured the older girl, giving a nod as he continued rifling through pages upon pages. In all honesty, they (that was, he and his grandma) were looking into a solution for things, but it was more on the muggle side of things. Still, those were the kind of extra details he didn't need to share. "Trying to hold out 'til I can go home before I try anything, y'know?"
His brown furrowed slightly as he reached the last book and still couldn't find the parchment. Toby glanced down at the floor and all around his chair (but not under it, a clear mistake) and then up at the girl again.
"My list," he said. "I had a list of assignments and things to do, but I've lost it." Which was a problem; Toby's memory was shocking and there was no chance that he'd remember even half the stuff on it. "Can you see it anywhere?" Cue another go at rifling through the books.
And the idea of Summoning it? Didn't even occur to the boy. Not once.

She nodded. "I getcha.. Does it get really bad? Like...in lessons and stuff?" See. She really wanted to know all of the things. Maybe she was being nosy and maybe she was trying to distract herself. Either way, she was asking questions because she wanted to know the answers. "You should just nap instead of doing homework or studying or anything." She was going to nap her life away because that was easier than acknowledging anything that was happening.
A list... Oh. "I write lists too!" Not of homework and things. Actually she wrote lists of guys and things. Attractive lists. Leg lists. Other lists. Yes to lists! But if he had lost it then she was going to help. Or try to. She was kinda over the laces thing now that she'd witness the death of his books. Sort of.
Leaning over the side of the table, Els peeked properly and made sure to prop herself off so she didn't fall off the table and snap her neck or something also as sad. "Nope.... I think the blood is rushing to my head though..." Darn.
She nodded.
Sort of.

Toby nodded right back in turn, looking up and pausing his search for the piece of parchment in favour for looking right at the girl.
"Uh-huh, exactly!" he said, probably a little too enthusiastically than would usually make sense in this context. But she GOT it, see? It was always encouraging when people understood. "Lessons are hardest, y'know? 'Cause my brain likes jumping to other things a lot, but I can't let it do that in a class." Was that too much detail? Maybe. But here he was, still going on. As for napping? Toby grinned and shrugged a shoulder, going back to his search. "I don't really need to sleep that much. And I kinda need to study. Made a promise about some OWL grades."
Which, in retrospect, didn't seem the smartest idea. But it was too late to take back now, and there was still a year left before the exams. He had time.
Well, he had something in common with the older girl. Lists. Liiiiiiists. Toby liked them, if only because they helped him to feel much more organised and in control of stuff. But... she couldn't see his?
"Hmm..." Deciding that it was absolutely not on the table or in any of these books, Toby set the last one down and comically slid out of his seat and down onto the floor. He ended up spotting the parchment almost instantly, letting out an "Aha!" of success as he grabbed at it. The fifteen year old then crawled back up to the chair, and slithered his way back into a sitting position. "Got it!" Tobias announced again, waving the sheaf of parchment (which contained a rather long list) in front of him.
"Thanks for helping me look," he added, placing the list down and smiling. "What's your name, by the way? I'm Toby." He'd finally get a name to match the face. Although, he might have already known her name and had forgotten................ eh. Details.

~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
After finishing up casting the spell in his dorm, Adi made his way down to the Hufflepuff common room. His eyes caught sight of the Study table. Loads of Puffers frequented there to complete their homework. That would be a good place to cast the spell. Nothing like helping to keep the Badger family warm.
Adi approached the honey coloured table, eyeing the wall closet to it. Perfect! The spell would at least keep those who sat closet to the wall. The Puffer raised his wand. "Caelum Saepio!'' He made the sideways eight movement and watched with a grin as a bit of fog seemed to come off of the wall. It wasn't much as what had came from the dorm but the spell worked!

With a frown, Els set the textbook she'd been about to read (or at least flick through) down. "Is there not a potion that might help with concentration that you could take specifically for classes? Until you can go home and sort something else out?" There was a potion for everything else, wasn't there? She felt bad for the kid though. So bad that she wanted to hug him, but her mood with males right now meant that hugging any sort of male would make her want to punch something and that wasn't even going to become a thing. "Grade promises... Yeaaaah.. I know about those." Those were the exact reason she'd fallen out with her brother.
'Failodie', anyone?
From her position that left her almost falling from the table and dying a premature and painful death, Els gave the younger Hufflepuff a grin and got herself up from inches away from death. "AWESOME!" That he had found his list, not that she had a bit of a headache from the upside-downeyness. Maybe he'd felt like that when the books had accidentally dropped onto his head.
"Elodie." That was her name. He hadn't given a surname and so she wasn't giving one either. Nuh-uh.
