Default History of Magic Lesson Two

Despite best efforts to the contrary, it is still quite cold in this area of the castle and rather drafty as you walk down the corridor towards the History of Magic classroom. You are not met with any music this time as you head to the door, but the same large "Make an Entrance" sign is still hanging outside the door in its usual place. It's up to you how you choose to interpret these words.

Once inside, you will find Professor Glendower standing at the front of the classroom, leaned up against her podium, cutting out paper snowflakes. She's wearing a wide smile, ready to welcome you as you come in and take a seat. It is slightly warmer than the corridor inside the classroom, but not by much. Professor Glendower has cast insulating charms around the area so at least it isn't snowing in here at the present moment and hopefully they'll hold up through the end of the lesson. The desk-arm chairs are again arranged in a semi-circle around the perimeter of the room and you might be pleased to find a peppermint humbug at each one.

Jasmine enjoyed watching everyone's "Entrance". The variety was interesting and there were definitely a few characters in the class.........but, oh.....casting a spell on the Professor? Kevin might have gone a bit too far this time. Finally it was time for class to start and the Professor threw out the first question.

Jasmine raised her hand to respond to the question. "I know that there have been many Yeti sightings by Muggles. Has there ever been a repot of a Yeti attacking Muggles like in the Ilfracombe Incident?" If so, that would explain the relevance to History if Magic rather than Care of Magical Creatures. It would also have a connection to the previous class.

Whoa, Professor actually said Sup back. He was not expecting that at all. But class was starting before he even knew how to respond to that. So random. Yeah, about that book. Nigel had it somewhere in the common room. He just did not want to summon it. So here he was extremely lazy and bookless. So he walked up a took one of the remaining copies.

Easy Enough.

Well the only acceptable answer was that Mo was leaving like him and some teacher would have to talk about one of his favorite magical creatures. Yeti's....Not as cool as Nundu's or Dragons. But cool enough to actually take a trip to go see them. "Because they are one of the Wizarding World's worst kept secrets"

Every muggle knows about Bigfoot and the Abominable Snowman.

Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite

Then it happened, or more accurately Kevin happened. Alexa did her best to look anywhere but at the scene before her because the thing with Kevin, he didn't listen, he didn't care, he wasn't civilized enough to be around humans yet they let him in anyway. No one bothered to stop him and when they did they were feeble attempts. She jinxed him quiet and got detention for it. There was no way of winning with that kid so Lex MIGHT have been happy to hear he got detention, then she MIGHT have been over the moon to learn the Headmistress was coming because at this point she felt the woman was the only one who could get him to for once in his life act like he had a functioning brain that he used.

It was far from her to correct him because the moment he got rude they'd both be headed to detention and that was counter productive. He'd been getting away scotch free for three years now and she'd had it with him.

As if she'd hadn't seen a thing and the incident didn't happen, Alexa reached into her bag for her copy of the book they were meant to have with them today. It was a stroke of luck and her feline that reminded her she needed to take this book along with her to class but here it was.

"Maybe because there's some historical event involving a yeti attack that was linked to a never ending winter like the one we have now?"

Apparently, things were going down.

Grayson, who hadn't done more than sit back in his seat and fiddle with his quill, watched with interest at whatever was going on between that young Gryffindor and the Professor. Apparently, Truebridge was joining in on the party, too, and the word detention had been thrown around. Brilliant. This would going to be VERY interesting, indeed. Uh huh. He was practically wiggling with excitement.

His attention, however, was diverted when Glendower began talking about what they could have possibly foreshadowed in the previous lesson. Grayson's eyes flicked over towards the copy of Year with the Yeti that was sitting on his desk. Heh. He vaguely remembered them mentioning something or another about Claus 73, once he delved deeper into his memory and tried to forget the HORRIBLE swimming costumes they had had to wear.

Shudder.

Soooooooo Yetis. Were they going to learn about those bad boys? And why? "Becaaaaause," he started, raising his hand in the air, "Muggles know about Yetis. MAYBE we're going to learn why it is that we're so bad at hiding those creatures. Or why we let some Muggles see them and spread stories to try and keep the others as far away as possible." Swear to Merlin, if this was going to end up being a story about a secret underground meeting of sorts, like the kind he had mentioned in his homework, Grayson was going to be VERY happy.

Oh she simply loved that literary device and was pleased to have had that in her last lesson even if no one realized it at the time. "And if you haven't already guessed, then the book I asked you to bring, if you owned it already, was probably a huge hint to the topic of today's lesson." Hmm, did anyone bring the supplemental book with them? Now might be a good time to pass out the extra copies.

Flicking her wand at the back of her podium, she sent a dozen copies of Year with the Yeti to the middle of the room and let them hover at eye-level there. "If you did not bring a copy with you today, please come up and get one.. though there is not enough for the entire class if no one brought one. You might have to share." But we were all friends here, they could just pull up their desks next to each other and look over each other's shoulder. "And then answer me this.." Dramatic pause. "Why would we be discussing Yetis here today in History of Magic class instead of Care of Magical Creatures?" Since that's what they were and all.
Many cool and interesting entrances. Cassia was amused by some and it was nice to have something to watch before class started. Usually, she'd have to doodle something on her notebook or find someone to annoy chat with. But watching other people's entrances was just as fun if not more. And it actually helped knowing a little more about people she already knew or memorize the faces of those whom she didn't.

And now they have started. Cassia's gaze slid to the professor and she was all ears ready for whatever it was they were gonna talk about.

"Because there's an important historical event that involved Yetis?" Which was more or less what everyone else suggested in a way or another.

Maddie tapped the cover of her book absently and considered Yetis. She'd SURE like to see one though the whole being eaten by one THING was a fear. Perhaps they made cages you could go in to protect you like they did when you swam with SHARKS. That'd be neat! She'd have to look into this, MHM. As for why they'd be learning about them in here instead of Care of Magical Creatures, the first year had a few ideas.

"PROBABLY because if you don't learn from history, you're doomed to repeat it, and the wizards and witches in Tibet clearly haven't learned how to keep the yetis hidden from muggles." UH-HUH. "Maybe you think teaching US means we can solve THAT little problem in the future."

"Is that Gryffindor implying that there is a YETI OUTSIDE????" WHAT.

"I mean, we're learning about Yeti's 'cause YOU SAID so, Professor History!" WOOT!

But what was that GRYFFIDNOR SAYING? If there was a YETI OUTSIDE, why were they sitting around in here being boring bumps on bums? YETI HUNT! YETI HUNT!

Professor Pretty knew his NAME? Beam. She was the BEST.

It had slipped his mind to bring the book, so the first year moved up to the front of the room- yes, he WAS still crabwalking- and secured himself a copy. If anyone wanted to share too, they could! Dima didn't mind in the slightest. Sharing was caring, everyone!

"Maybe we're not learning about yetis at ALL, ma'am!" Dramatic pause. "Are we learning about the author? I know HE was pretty famous." But not pretty, probably. SHE was the pretty one. Heh.

Staaaare.

Penelope was still thinking about the last lesson. She was nervous about this class after what had happened in the last class. Her emotions were changing so fast that she have time to think or act with one emotion. The embarrassment of yelling at Kyroh in front of everyone and leaving the class, the anger and sadness when she had thought that she was a horrible girl for yelling at Kyroh, the nervousness about being here for this lesson, and the happiness that seemed to radiate from Professor Cassie. Kevin, the fireworks, and the dancing professor seemed to have unbalanced things, and this was certainly not helping her ever changing mood. Professor Cassie had left the room, and with the source of happiness and excitement gone, the negative emotions quickly took over. There was another thought on Penelope's mind. She wanted to find a way to tell Kyroh that she didn't mean to yell at him, and didn't mean most of what she said. Penelope actually really liked his creative answers.

Why would they discuss yetis in History of Magic? On a normal day (if she could ever have one in this class), she would have been interested in this and thought of an answer. Today, she was even more moody than usual. She was feeling horrible. Her stomach felt like it was tied in knots, and she was getting a headache from all of the emotions. Penelope's mood was changing too much for her to handle. Even though she had mood swings all the time, her mood was changing even faster than usual, and it did not feel good. The first year could not think about yetis right now. She needed to calm down. Penelope put her head in her hands, hoping that her mood would stop changing so fast if she didn't think about it to much.

Why were all the boys at this school LOSERS!?

In this class alone, Fern had witnessed Kace offer to carry Zahra across the classroom (What a PUFFANOVA! He made Fern SICK!), Cuthbert open his mouth (His voice! UGH!), and worse of all - Kevin CURSE Professor Glendower!!

WHO WENT AROUND CURSING PROFESSORS!?!? Especially Professor Glendower!! One of the coolest professors EVER!!! This was so not right, and Fern was glad he was getting detention, and she was glad Professor Truebridge was coming to publicly shame - but wait! What was Professor Morgan saying - WAIT NO!!!

Fern's heavy lined eyes widened in horror. She had only just taken a seat next to the Divination professor's spot, and now! Now she was left alone in the back of the room, as far away from Professor Glendower as possible, but not as far away as she would've liked from certain previously named LOSERS.

Knifflers would fly before she'd be sharing her copy of Year with the Yeti with any of THEM. "Professor," Fern spoke, raising her hand and giving her most winning, lip gloss slathered smile, "Maybe it's because we're going to be learning about wizarding autobiographies?" And then the homework would be to write their own! Fern had so much to write she could write about. She would title her's Fern Quimbley: F is for Fabulous. Obviously it would be a best seller, and when Dante Dark came to get his copy signed, she would say, "Oh sorrrrry, who are you?"

Year of the Yeti.

Beverly took a moment to ponder on that. Frankly, all she could think about what how that related to the snow storm outside the castle walls. Actually, that was all she could think about when something cold-related was mentioned.

She raised her hand. "Maybe because they could be a form of transportation out of here?" It was an honest question. Could they still be dug out?

Cassie made her way back with the headmistress. Opening the door she walked a little more calmly back into the room. No entrance this time, no Nessa was already in the middle of class. She gestured to Nessa that she was back with a little wave and point towards the woman her bestie wanted to see.

Now did she stay or find a seat. Deciding she'd just find a seat, the five foot blonde made her way to an empty seat next to Fern. Giving the Puff a little wave she sat and hoped there wouldn't be anymore trouble going on.

Kace got his Year of the Yeti book with him. He looked at the professor and wondered what this book had to do with the lesson. It would make sense why they would study it in COMC but whyy in HOM? He looked through the book and observed it. He wasn't cheating no way. He was just using his resources. He thought of a logical answer and raised his hand,

"Professor I think this books involves probably a long winter in which we are involved in right now? I am surprised we haven't seen a yeti on our school grounds yet..." It made sense right. Plus he chuckled at Cinna's answer too.

Yeti. DID SHE SAY YETI? Mo was practically out of his seat with excitement, and he genuinely couldn't figure out why the rest of his classmates were equally thrilled. They were talking about yeti. MO LOVED YETI.

It made perfect sense that they were studying the yeti in History of Magic. They should be studying it in EVERY single class, honestly, because the yeti was the most fascinating creature of all time. His hand was up, and then he was up, and Mo had to make himself sit back down before answering. "THE YETI is one of the magical creatures most often seen by Muggles. If there's anywhere that we can relate to the Ilfacombe Incident, it would be the yeti." YETIYETIYETI.

"Because they are a part of our history?" She really wasn't answering it as a question. Really, but that was what she thought sounded good.
Nessa turned her brown eyes on the Gryffindor and called on her as she raised her hand. ”Well, in a sense, yes..” she mused aloud in a wistful voice. Really, anything could be rationalized as that so it wasn’t as if she was wrong.

”Oh, there were quite a few incidents, actually,” she replied to Lux’s offering with something of an excited expression. And they miiiight be talking about some today.

Getting up, he brushed himself off and sat down at really the only empty seat he could find. Which luckily was next to Dima. Heh.

OH and question? Kyroh raised his hand, before even taking out his book. "Because Yeti's are first little, like babies, and then they grow big like adults and so that means they have history's too. And if we don't learn about the Yeti's history and our history's with the Yeti's we are doomed to be attacked whenever we visit Tibet." And Tibet had a history TOO.
Nessa grinned as Flobberworm!Kyroh broke character and rushed off to his seat. Nodding to him as he raised his hand, she listened as he offered an answer. Aww! Was that not the cutest answer? Nessa tried to picture wee little yeti babies.. they had to be simply adorable! And she sort of drifted off in thought for a moment. ”Oh.. oh yes! It’s always important to learn from events in history to know what to do or not to do. And this is no exception.” Who would want to get attacked? That would be dreadful.

This should be an interesting read, but it irks him that it was written by Gilderoy Lockhart. But anyway, onto the professor’s question.

Hand up.

“If we know their history, then it would be easier to contain or handle them.” Ethan nodded as he placed the book on his armchair. “They say it’s easier to capture the enemy if you know their background.” Right, he’s been reading too much Sherlock books as of late. Mhm.
Nessa was still so delighted with her Watson and Holmes, especially that they seemed intent on staying in character through class. She really should have a conversation with them after class sometime. But for now, they had a lesson to tend to and she called on Ethan as he raised his hand. Oh, the enemy? She supposed some saw the Yeti in that manner.. she preferred antagonist in certain stories, but that was not the point of his answer. ”Yes, knowing and studying them would help in having to deal with them.. and even perhaps in better upholding the Statute of Secrecy in that area.” Those poor Tibetans sure seemed to have their hands full.

Oh, goodness.. Nessa was rather glad that someone brought this up, though she knew it was inevitable. ”Supposed to be is probably a good choice of words, Angel,” she said with a warm smile at the girl. This was Angel, right? Nessa glanced over to her identical sister.. yes, she had made a note of where they were sitting and she was correct in her thinking. ”In reality, he relayed stories of other great wizards and projected them onto himself..” But more about that in a minute.

Seriously, it was dancing spell. What harm was that gonna do eh?

And again with the respect. He REALLY needed to ask money each time someone mentioned it. Kevin folded his arms over each other and watched the interaction going on between the History of Magic Professor and the Divination Professor. He wasn’t even startled to hear the word detention. Seriously, like he cared? However, at the mention of the Headmistress he suddenly looked a bit more uncomfortable. It wasn’t that he was scared of her but she did have the power to throw him out of school right?

The Gryffindor shrugged his shoulders again and pretended that he didn’t care. Then without another word, the boy twirled around and sat down on one of the empty seats, picking out his book from his bag.

Oh and NOW their entrances were unique to them and speak about them? His entrance was exactly that but he got an detention? Pfft unfair. Yes, he totally did not see that he did wrong by attacking an Professor. Merlin’s beard he had done that so many times now, she should be honoured to be on the list. Although the attack on Bentley had been an accident, TRUTH!

As the question came, Kevin did listen, while chewing on the peppermint humbug he found. The answer however, he did not know. He was more focused on the door and coming up with a plan to vanish before the Headmistress would enter the room.
Nessa did not have a response for the boy’s retort. Just because it wasn’t a curse didn’t make it not unfriendly. But he was missing the entire point and she wasn’t going to waste any more of class time trying to make him understand because she was afraid that would be futile.. and possibly get him into more trouble. And Nessa felt just horrible as it was. She didn’t want to be the mean teacher. But she did want him to learn and unfortunately sometimes kids had to learn the hard way. She would definitely be tapping it out in her office later. That always made her feel better. And maybe he could learn something while he waited for the Headmistress to arrive.

Even if they were frightening and attacked people and things like that. ”But actually, the weather was something of an inspiration for today’s lesson..” At least her mind kept going there because of all the snow. It just made her think of it.

That was when a small smile crept onto his face. This bloke Lockhart was over dramatic. Over dramatic and ridiculous. Cutty thought him both stupid and amusing.

Maybe it isn't Yetis we'll be discussing, but the author? Cutty dared to dream, but instead put his hand up and gave the following suggestion, "Well, if the creature's history is strongly linked with that of Wizard kind it wouldn't hurt to know it. That's not likely to be gone over in Care of Magical Creatures, now is it? It's more like the biological side of Yetis." Like how they could devour a person like it was nothing.
Nessa beamed at Cutty as he raised his hand, not noticing his less than pleased expression. ”True.. we won’t be discussing the biologic specifics of the Yeti as that would be something more relevant in Care of Magical Creatures. We will be discussing more events as they fall in line with Wizards and Muggles.” So yes, as she basically said in a roundabout way, he was correct.

Does the lesson have to do with trying to figure out what is outside the castle walls trying to trap us in?" Dramatic much? She really wasn't trying to be, she just had lots of questions.
Nessa eyes widened slightly as Aubrey provided her answer. Now those things could be called abominable in her opinion, and they probably wouldn’t even care. ”No..” she sort of trailed off as she looked out the frosted windows in the classroom, trying to connect the dots. Was the girl implying there were chorts in the snow? Those things were clear on the near other side of the world. She was lost in thought for a moment before shaking herself from her reverie. She had a class to conduct! Focus!

Emmylou was going to say something but it was along the lines of what some other students were talking about so she thought it would be best to not say anything at all.
Brown eyes fell on Emmylou a moment. No response just yet? That was fine and the History of Magic professor gave her a soft smile to see her looking through the book. Perhaps she would glean something from the text to contribute later.

It was only one floor up and Merlin Cassie needed the little walk to calm from all the negative. So no patronus she'd just walk.

She turned quickly on her heels and headed out the door.
Did Cassie know how awful she felt about having to give that boy detention? She did know it was necessary, right? She couldn’t just let students go around attacking each other or their professors or mass chaos would erupt. And the child needed to learn. But that didn’t make her feel much less bad about it, just wishing they could all have a good time. A mani-pedi would have normally been in order after class following something like this, but since she had to forego her salon appointments being stuck in the castle, she’d have to give herself one. Nessa beamed at Cassie as she got up from her desk-arm chair. ”Thank you so much for your assistance.” Really, how fortunate t was that she had decided to drop in today. What would she do without her?

"That's the clause that says each country is responsible for concealing all the magic in its area, and the Muggles keep seeing the Yeti." That one little fact was basically all Sophie knew about the Yeti in history.
”Oh that certainly does come into play with what we’ll be discussing, yes..” Such bright little students she had! ”And maybe why they have such a hard time concealing the Yeti’s existence..” And other things along that line.

Ah time to pull out the books. Simon pulled out his copy and rested it on his lap. Simon didn't know an answer to her question. Why would they EVEN be studying a book by Gilderoy Lockhart when the man practically made everything up. He raised a hand. "Does it have anything to do with the fact that Lockhart falsified the account of the story because he never did spend time with Yetis. He just took someone else's work. Taking credit for other people's work has happened a lot in muggle history too. So studying this in Care of Magical Creatures wouldn't be exactly appropriate," explained Simon. That was his personal opinion on the whole matter.

Nessa had to admit that she rather enjoyed Gilderoy Lockhart and not for the reasons one might necessarily think. She hoped they didn’t think she asked them to bring the book today as a completely accurate work of fact. But she would get to that in a minute as well. ”I’m glad you brought that up,” she said, tilting her head slightly. Was he still in character? She couldn’t quite tell with that answer. ”Gilderoy Lockhart was a great storyteller, but he was just that. He didn’t actually do any of the things he wrote about. And that is perfectly fine to be a storyteller..” There were so many great ones throughout history. ”BUT it is important to be honest and up-front about that fact.. Something that he was not. That being said.. the accounts in that book are true.. they are just accounts that belong to other people.” And she would talk more about why she had asked them to bring that book in a few minutes.

It would also have a connection to the previous class.
”None quite of that magnitude,” Nessa said, nodding a bit at Jasmine’s answer. ”But yes, there have been reports of attacks.” She supposed she would attribute it to the weather there. She knew everyone was rather tired of all this snow, most people didn’t want to hang out in this all the time.

Hmm.. Nessa tapped her chin thoughtfully as she heard Alexa’s answer. ”I don’t think so..” she said slowly, still searching the reserves of her memory. That sounded familiar, but she couldn’t quite put her finger on it. Did that come up in her improv classes? ”But check your book.. there might be mention of something like that.”

Swear to Merlin, if this was going to end up being a story about a secret underground meeting of sorts, like the kind he had mentioned in his homework, Grayson was going to be VERY happy.
Nessa gave Grayson a conspiratorial smile at his answer. She remembered his homework theories. ”That’s a possibility.. “ she started slowly, building suspense. ”There must be some explanation to why they aren’t as easily hidden as some other things.” But sometimes the stories were even better.

Hmm.. well, that would be the more obvious answer, considering the class they were in. But even though it was right in a general sense, it wasn’t exactly correct in a specific sense. ”There have been quite a few events involving Yetis.. but their importance is relative.” There wasn’t anything major like what they had talked about last time but there were plenty of other things that had happened.

Nessa really liked how this little Ravenclaw enunciated certain words for effect. She would be really good at telling stories. ”Well, that’s really good advice about anything that happens. It’s important to learn from what happens to shape your responses to future events.” But what she offered next really struck her interest. ”It certainly would be interesting to see if any of you could come up with a better solution than the ones already in place,” she told her with a knowing smile. But what was that GRYFFIDNOR SAYING? If there was a YETI OUTSIDE, why were they sitting around in here being boring bumps on bums? YETI HUNT! YETI HUNT!
Hmm? Nessa’s eyes snapped from Zahra to the frosted window. A Yeti outside? ”I don’t think so,” she mused, still sort of squinting out the window. Wouldn’t that be exciting though? They’re all taking about Yetis and BAM, one shows up... but no. ”A little too far from home to be here.. but yes,” she grinned. ”That’s one reason why we’re talking about Yetis.. I did determine the subject of today’s lesson.” Sometimes she just really loved the literal and couldn’t help but to chuckle.

"Maybe we're not learning about yetis at ALL, ma'am!" Dramatic pause. "Are we learning about the author? I know HE was pretty famous." But not pretty, probably. SHE was the pretty one. Heh.

Staaaare.
Nessa grinned at Dima as he crabwalked up to the front of the room to get a book. That took some talent. ”Wellll, no, not today,” she started, still smiling widely. Hey, good guess and she actually could do a lesson on the author if she wanted. She did enjoy the man’s flair for dramatics. ”We are actually going to be learning about Yetis today.. but I do know plenty about Gilderoy Lockhart, the author of the book. SPOILER!!: Penelope

Looking around for anyone else with their hand in the air, Nessa couldn’t help but to allow her brown eyes to settle on Penelope for a moment. Oh, she just looked so out of sorts, didn’t she? Professor Glendower so wanted the girl to have a good time in class today, especially after the last episode she had in this room, but it was clear that that was not happening yet.. and she supposed the earlier negativity did not help matters. Nessa fought the frown threatening to appear and instead gave the girl an encouraging smile. Even if she had nothing to offer right now, there was still plenty of time for her to participate and have fun.

SPOILER!!: Fern

Nessa nodded at Fern to call on her and gave a mildly impressed look at her contribution. “Well, we aren’t going to be learning about that today.. but what a fantastic idea for a future lesson!” Nessa beamed back at the girl as she grabbed her planner stashed on a shelf inside the podium along with a quill and jotted that down. She was always on the lookout for something interesting she could turn into a fantastic lesson and she thought she might be able to fit that in somewhere. There were plenty of famous wizards to learn about.. starting with Mr. Lockhart himself.

She raised her hand. "Maybe because they could be a form of transportation out of here?" It was an honest question. Could they still be dug out?

Nessa tilted her head in thought as Beverly provide her answer, then she turned her eyes to the frosted window again. “Hmm..” Her mind started drifting as she imagined bundled-up children riding piggyback on a herd (pack?) of Yeti through pre-dug tunnels in the snow. Maybe if there were actually Yeti out there and it was still snowed in when school was being dismissed for the summer..

"Professor I think this books involves probably a long winter in which we are involved in right now? I am surprised we haven't seen a yeti on our school grounds yet..." It made sense right. Plus he chuckled at Cinna's answer too.
She was snapped out of her reverie when she heard the voice of Kace Lecium and she turned her attention on him. ”Hmm? Oh.. yes.. well, there are stories about long winters in there. But mostly because that is the climate of their natural habitat.” Long winters.. those creatures liked the cold.

SPOILER!!: Mo
Quote:
Originally Posted by Cassirin View Post

It made perfect sense that they were studying the yeti in History of Magic. They should be studying it in EVERY single class, honestly, because the yeti was the most fascinating creature of all time. His hand was up, and then he was up, and Mo had to make himself sit back down before answering. "THE YETI is one of the magical creatures most often seen by Muggles. If there's anywhere that we can relate to the Ilfacombe Incident, it would be the yeti." YETIYETIYETI.
Nessa could sense the eagerness bubbling under the surface of this young man. Perhaps it was the fact that he not only raised his hand to offer an answer, but his entire body as well. "Why, yes.. there are quite a few parallels between the Yeti an that very incident," she beamed at Mo once he sat back down. "I think making it a good subject for today's lesson.." And the perfect segue from one to the next, or so she thought.

When it seemed that no one else had anything to add, Nessa turned to the class again with a bright smile. “Wonderful insight, everyone!” There were actually several reasons to discuss Yetis in this specific class and many of the students touched on most of them. “As someone mentioned, we will not be delving into the biology of the Yeti as that is something reserved for Care of Magical Creatures.” And not nearly as much fun, in her opinion. “Instead we will be focusing more on things like the Statute of Secrecy breaches, why they are not as well-hidden as other magical things, and specific events and experiences involving Yeti incidents.” She personally loved those creatures.. they were so mysterious! Given the reputation of being dangerous and exciting.. at the same time, she had the cutest Yeti plushie in her office.

"Now.. about the book, Year with the Yeti.." Everyone had a copy now, right? Or at least were sharing.. They needed to be, because her supply was gone now. "As one of your classmates very kindly pointed out, the stories in your book aren't completely true in that the experiences chronicled by Gilderoy Lockhart did not actually happen to Mr. Lockhart himself as he initially reported. But they are actual accounts of Yeti sightings and incidents that happened to other Wizards and Muggles. Now storytelling at times can be wonderful, as is retelling actual events that happened to others.. but the important thing is to be upfront and honest about whether or not it is actually true. But even with taking into account that the author tried to take credit for what he did not do, this book is still an excellent resource as it is the most comprehensive volume of Yeti experiences. We just have to remember that they were just relayed to by the author not actually experienced by him." When all that came out a hundred years or so ago, there was a footnote about that edited in future editions somewhere.

"Now, I'd like you all to take a few minutes and look through your book.. or even open to a random page and see what is written there. Please share something interesting you've discovered about the Yeti or tell us your favorite Yeti incident from the book." She'd give them a few minutes to read and share what they've found, especially if they hadn't a chance to peruse this particular tome in the past. And then she'd tell them about her favorite if it didn't get mentioned. "Or.. has anyone had a personal experience with a Yeti themselves?" That would be even more exciting.. though perhaps unlikely. She pulled her own copy of Year with the Yeti and leaned up against her podium as she looked through.

OOC - Please have your character mention something about Yetis or an incident that could be found in the book. As what would be written in the text is not specifically known, feel free to make something up as long as it's remotely plausible. Creativity is welcome and please do not repeat another's answer.

Mo's excitement was amusing to West and he grinned at his friend, sort of eager by default, y'know? It was always good to see a mate in a good mood.

But he put his hand up. "This isn't from the book exactly but I know the International Taskforce has teams who deal with Yeti control, and that our former Headmaster, Gaellen Tate, used to do that before he ended up here." Like... a while before. But yeah. That was a Yeti related thing.

So he had redeemed himself. Somewhat. Either way, he'd take it. YEP! All beams from here. And it was still taking SO MUCH restraint not to eat the candy in his pocket. At this point it was basically whispering to him telling him to eat it. But he couldn't! It was his only candy left! Must. Save. Not. Eat. GAH. He was only fourteen this shouldn't be happening!! He was too young to know the true meaning of a candyless lifestyle. It wasn't faaaair.

Right. Ahem. Back to the lesson. He listened carefully right before opening up his book. He couldn't help but feel really bad for Kevin. Poor guy was only trying to have some fun and make an entrance. He surely didn't mean any harm. True, he shouldn't have used his wand on a Professor... And he most certainly brought it upon himself, but he was still Zander's friend! The Gryffindor looked over at his friend and gave him a nervous look, but then quickly changed it to one of reassurance. Maybe Kevin would suddenly change in the moment and apologize profusely and then they could forget that the whole thing happened yeah? And not take points away from Gryffindor please? It had been ten whole years. TEN. Since they last won and they were getting SO close.

But right. Enough distractions. He was flipping through the book now... Right. Uhum. Anyways. "This part talks about a camping trip in the America's going way wrong, Professor," A yeti sighting and everything. It was bad. "It calls the yeti a 'bigfoot' though and it wandered into a campsite unexpectedly," The footnote mentioned something about Yeti's known as Bigfoots in some parts so that wasn't too worrisome. Poor people were probably trying to roast some good ol' marshmallows or something when they got the rude awakening.

Lucy raised her wand and she said : " Professor when I was sixth years old my father went in Russia to retrieve a medicine that he needed for his work. .on the way to Moscow he saw in the distance a creature similar to the Yeti staggering under the snow..
My father called immediately the Minister for the protection of magical creatures.
Some wizards finally came and found it in a forest..It had lost the way..
It was not a Yeti..It was a Troll of the North-Europe that looks like the Yeti!

please don't let me be miunderstood

Leah listened to Professor Glendower, opening her book again. She found some doodles of a cute little Yeti on the second page. She wondered if the creature looked like that in real life. That was before she noticed the tiny stick humans drawn next to the Yeti. Hmm.

She reopened to a random page and read the story she found. It sounded stupid oh right. Leah did find a description about Yetis though and raised her hand immediately. "A yeti is gigantic and snowy white." She turned to the second page again and showed the professor the drawing. Just for reference.

Jasmine opened her book and began to randomly flip through it. She was looking for an appropriate fact to share with the class. When she finally found something that she found interesting, Jasmine raised her hand and began to speak. "The Yeti has some similarity to the creature Bigfoot that has been reportedly sighted in North America." Curious for other information, she continued to browse through the book while at the same time listening to her classmates.

A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.

Kevin had a smug grin on his face when the Professor had no retort back to him and as he leaned back in his chair, he stretched his legs and crossed his feet under the table. He caught Zander's nervous look that was being casted towards him but he merely shrugged his shoulders. If he got a detention he got a detention. Big deal. He sent Zander a mischievious grin.

Kevin flipped the pages of the book and read some of the lines. Most of them were already said by others and he didn't want to say the same thing twice so he continued to search the book with his cheek resting on his hand. "The Yeti is a Ministry of Magic Classification XXXX which means they are highly dangerous" he said

Just then, the door opened up again and Kevin's gaze went towards the Divination Professor as she re-entered the room. Because he didn't care about detention did not mean he was looking forward to it either. So the moment the woman came back he slumped down in his chair, maybe they couldn't find him and would leave? Yeah, he highly doubted that.

Ethan was somehow disgusted with the author of this book, that’s why he never even bought one for school. The fact that this Lockhart dude nicked stories from others, made him want to roll his eyes and question every entry. Although yes, there are now footnotes, but jeez. Poor wizards and witches that were never accounted for, for their efforts.

Anyway. Sigh. Hand up.

“It says here that the female Yetis can be distinguished from the males by their whiskers. Females tend to have curled or braided beards…”

Ethan’s eyes squinted at the text, and re-read it again. Is this thing true???

That Gryffindor? AJ was almost positive that the older lion was referring to her. The first year turned to face her. "It's AJ." Just so she would know. Did she say there was a Yeti out there? "Not a Yeti, a chort." Whatever that was. Nobody had ever answered her questions about them. She legit heard people saying that they thought these chort things were at Hogwarts at the research meeting. Why did it look like the professor's eyes glazed over when the lion mentioned it?

Turning herself back around she thought about the next question. "I think they are big and hairy. They also grunt a lot." That wasn't exactly a textbook answer or anything, but that wasn't really AJ's style now was it?

Maddie would LOVE to come up with a better solution and you KNOW who would probably be good at helping with that? Her BUDDY, Mo. Mo liked Yetis. She could TELL on account of the way his face lit up while talking about the subject. Bet HE was WAY more knowledgeable than this Liarhart or whatever his name was.

As for what she could share from her book, the brunette flipped through in search of something particularly interesting to share. She figured reading from this book in some ways was morally repugnant GIVEN the fact that the author had STOLEN the stories and made them his OWN but she S'POSED it was okay since the stories THEMSELVES were true.

"The Yeti seems to like to hang out where the conditions are PRETTY harsh. Like way up in mountains and such. MAYBE that's why the muggle climbers are the ones who find footprints and stuff so often. They're the only ones daring enough to go to THOSE harsh places."

Buncha Gryffindors, mountain climbers. There would be no cushioning charm for them when they fell off the side of those cliffs, JUST saying.
