What? What was AJ? The Yeti? OH no, no, that kid. Haha! But more importantly, "What the heck is a CHORT?" ....and why was Professor EPIC PANTS making her read out of a BOOK? Shouldn't be putting on snow boots and going YETI HUNTING? Sigh. Sigh. Zahra flipped through her book, looking for pictures. "I don't have a Yeti story professor. But if I did, it'd be with a Yeti named Bruce. Are you SURE we aren't going out to look for a Yeti? We could INTERVIEW BRUCE." |
The Headmistress was just a pace behind the Divination professor as she led the way back to History of Magic. All the snapping and hand gestures Cassie used as she talked meant that Annie was honestly safer walking behind her. But that didn't stop her from pausing at the doorway as the children started looking through a book (how academic this scene was!) so that she could seek out Kevin on her own. Quote:
"Mr. Hirase," she said in a low voice, placing a firm grip on his shoulder, "you're going to need to come with me. Now." |
Ohh... *blink* The Headmistress was here, and it looked like Kevin was in a load of trouble. COOL! It's too bad he had to leave with the Headmistress. Sophie was hoping for a show right here in this very classroom, for everyone, namely her, to see. Oh, well. Sophie turned her attention back to her book and read a few paragraphs about the Yeti. Finally, she saw something she didn't think anyone else had suggested then raised her hand. "It says here that the Yeti fears fire, and that a skilled wizard should be able to use fire to get make a getaway." |
See, look at Mo's enthusiasm for Yeti's. It was contagious or hilarious. Depends on how you look at things. Nigel opened his borrowed copied to a random page. Well it was just facts that he already knew about the things from Mo. Like they were 15 feet tall and the other muggle names for them. And look who makes a fabulously random entrance. Headmistress. That red hair can only mean it was her and she was look for that kid who made the awesome entrance at the beginning of class. He would rather watch this random event. Than spout facts about a Yeti. |

Since he didn't want anyone to see that he was a bit nervous, Kevin snapped his book shut and threw it in his school bag. Then he stood up from the chair, hoisted his bag over his shoulder and left with her. |

Hand still on his shoulder, Bunz marched Kevin out of class and down to the dungeons, but not before giving Professor Glendower a polite smile. She was happy, VERY happy to help her newer staff with discipline. Some might say it was her specialty. Hehe. |
Kace heard Mo's enthusiasm about the Yeti, he grinned to himself. This might be his favorite topic to cover. That would be like him and penguins. But he heard the professor move on and at least his answer was semi right? But now he had to read through the book and found a little something none of the students mentioned yet. "Professor it seems the Yeti could live in the mountains and I heard they could live in deep snow in the Himalayan mountains rumor has it..." he nodded. He heard that rumor from people and even watching some tv shows for guilty pleasure when he was back home in the muggle world. |
Uh. What? Simon watched as a little Gryffindor was led out of the room by the Headmistress. Alright....? Was that why she came in here in the first place? Perhaps so. He remained silent and copied down some notes. Ah, facts about Yetis or something about the book. So the boy flipped through the book, searching for answers. Then Simon raised his hand. "Professor, a Yeti stands up to 4.5 metres tall." Yep, that was a fact that he remembered. Perhaps they were related to trolls. |
Scanning through the first few pages of the book, Charlie raised her hand, keeping her other finger on the part of the page she'd found. She was curious into the history of the animal, yes, but.. Well, she preferred Care of Magical Creatures. Expressing a giggle at the Ravenclaw who mentioned hunting and interviewing a Yeti itself, Charlies thoughts wandered to the blizzard the Castle was currently enslaved to. A Yeti wasn't going to appear, was it? As if on cue to distract her from her kind of scary thoughts (she so didn't want a Yeti breaking into the castle, under any circumstances), the Headmistress arrived. She looked classy today, as always, the sixth year couldn't help but think. She liked her dress. Heh. Anyway, back to the lesson. "The Yeti's native to Tibet, right?" she paused for a moment, to check the text, before raising her gaze back to the Professor. "And it's said to have human-like traits..." Although what traits exactly, she wasn't sure of. |
A possibility. WELL. At least she wasn't saying that it was completely untrue and making him feel dumb about it. Thank you for that Glendower. No sarcasm this time. Can you believe it? Moving onwards, the boy reached over and turned the pages of his book to try and find an interesting excerpt. Swear to Merlin, this was freaking ridiculous. This author had gone ahead and made things up -- for fame and money and all the things Grayson could understand -- but then he had gone ahead and gotten himself CAUGHT?! And badly too, if the stories were correct. What an idiot. If you're going to lie, you might as well do it PROPERLY or not do it at all. Jeez. Still, Grayson continued to search through the book until-- .......... Oh? Hello? THIS was particularly interesting. Uh huh. Okay, time to tell this story in his own Oh will you look at that? The Headmistress was here and taking that Gryffindor away. Oh ho ho! Even bigger drama. BRILLIANT. |
Alexa....had never been more happy to see the Headmistress before this second right here. Kevin...wouldn't get away with it again. He'd been doing a fine job of walking over all the Professors--even Professor Smiles back in her lesson where all she did was say not everyone would be as nice as her and honestly pffft to that. Finally the Headmistress. If anyone could straighten him out, it was her. If not, Lex was glad she only had one more year here. With that out of the way, she felt a great load rise from her chest where her badge once again sat. Brilliant day this was. While the others read things they found from the book, Lex found herself simply skimming the pages for anything that might be of particular interest. Some of this stuff was good reading. Shame Lockhart never actually did 'em. His life would have been more thrilling for it. "Dunno if this helps but Mo was planning on taking a few of us Yeti watching...hunting...I dunno....I forget." But it involved Mo, them and Yetis so totally relevant despite not coming from the book. |
HEY! The Headmistress was in there! She was kinda scary, did she know? Also, her hair looked like spaghetti with pasta sauce on it. Dima could so go for some of that right now. But other than his wonderful observations of Bunz's tresses, the first year's attention was on Glendower. He could ASK her more questions about the author later?! Really? He didn't care for author one bit, but if the prettiest professor in ALL OF HOGWARTS wanted to chat him up about it, proCEED. Who cared about trolls' relatives at a time like THIS? "They're hairy!" Yep. Most helpful tidbit of info today, wasn't it? |
Opening the book, Lux flipped through it at random trying to find something that she had enjoyed and wanted to share. Yetis were cool, and she was totally with those people who wanted to go outside and find one. Really sucked that it was so bloody cold outside and Chorts were in the forest. Dumb Chorts. They had hurt her Bay and she hated them for it. Huffing and muttering under her breath, it took a moment for her to realize that the Headmistress had arrived and was after Kevin. Okay, so clearly he had done something bad before she had arrived because she had no idea what was going on. Forgetting all about the lesson at hand, she curiously watched the scene in front of her. |
REALLY? HEHEHEHEHE The third year couldn't help but burst into a fit of quiet giggles at the story annoying Grayson had just told. Did he not know how to tell a story PROPERLY or were the 'likes' and 'dudes' to make the story slightly more relatable *COUGH* cooler *COUGH*. Cause the second, MAYBE she'd understand but hey..story telling was supposed to be DRAMATIC and with OOOOMPHHH..well OOOOMMPH that WASN'T Grayson OOOOOMPHH cause that was just not OOOOOMMPHH. HEH. She would show him, just as she ALWAYS did. UP ON THE DESK. Yep, this girl was standing right up on her desk now, not even her chair. Although she did raise her hand before, at least. "My Yetiness." Hashtag SWAGSTER! "A story, from the book but my style. You know?" Well did they???? " 'Yeti's have always been MYS-TER-IOUS creatures and wizards have never been able to study them because BOOF they eat anything in their path.'This was what some wizards were told before hiking, one day. They decided to hike because they wanted to explore those TREACHEROUS mountains and possibly find things like never before, which they did. Mhhmmmmm." Eye contact was happening and Abbi was feeling real boss because she was TOTALLY owning Grayson's story better than he had. HAHAHA. " Lucky for them only an hour after walking they spotted their first footprints which they followed until DUN DUN DUN....they spotted the Yeti. The Yeti raged and due to it's nature it wanted to OM NOM NOM them..but it didn't. You know WHY? Cause the superhero that was charming and beautiful and had that unbelievable superhero hair saved the day tricking the yeti and corning into being surrounded by those BLAZING flames. And THAT was how we learned to protect ourselves from Yetis." NOW WHAT Grayson? HEH. She shot him a sassy look and then resumed sit in her seat. |
Adi had only just flipped open his text book to a random page, holding it between him and AJ when he saw the Headmistress march into the classroom. It looked like Kevin was in trouble. Again. What? No protest from the Gryffindor? That was surprising. Anyway... Back to the text book. "There have been a lot of sightings in Tibet, Professor.'' Adi lowered his hand didn't go into further details because that Slytherin dude, Grayson had pretty much covered it all. |
They were going on a yeti-viewing-party. That was true, and Lex got a happy nod-nod-nod when she said it. It wasn't really a fact about yetis, but it was a fact about Mo, who was basically 15% yeti. As close as most people were going to get, y'know? Mo flipped open the book, but he already knew loads about the yeti, and it didn't take him long to shut it and lean forward on his desk, giving the professor a long, solemn face. "Yetis are very protective of their young, which contributes to their reputation of being bloodthirsty and dangerous. Some speculate that missing hikers and mountain climbers in the Himalayas who were reported to have succumbed to the elements were actually attacked by a yeti. I say... that might be true, but they probably deserved it for roaming into the yeti's home uninvited." |

That was the question of the hour. Without turning in her seat this time AJ just shrugged her shoulders. "Beats me." It seemed like every time the lion asked that question she was conveniently ignored. This professor was cooler. She was the one who taught her a cool spell to get rid of peeves, so maybe she would enlighten her. "I'd be down with yeti hunting." Just throwing that out there in case they needed to assemble the troops. AJ was tired of being left behind. Sometimes being lower to the ground was beneficial. This first year wasn't going to be pushed aside like the crappy crust part of a sandwich. Oh look, the headmistress herself was here. It looked like that lion was going to get it. That was one less person to worry about taking her spot on the yeti hunt. |
Fern's smile grew even larger as Professor Glendower praised her answer. While it may have been not the correct one, the Hufflepuff could not be any prouder. No one else was told they had a future-lesson worthy idea. And NO ONE else got a special note jotted in the professor's notebook. And the class just got better and better when Professor Morgan returned and sat RIGHT. NEXT. TO. HER. Fern wanted to squeal so bad, but she didn't because she was a sophisticated teenager. So she gave the Professor her best m a t u r e smile, and then watched the Headmistress. In the presence of one of her fashion idols, the 13-year-old's mouth fell slightly open in awe. Fern thought that Headmistress Truebridge was the epitome of a lady in her flowing dress, nude heals, and perfectly styled hair, and desperately, Fern wished that she too had a skirt that swished. Even Kevin couldn't help but be amazed by the Headmistress. Clearly fashion, not magic, was the real, ultimate form of power. Not until the Headmistress left the room did Fern remember she was in History of Magic. And then - WHY WAS THAT GIRL STANDING ON HER TABLE!? Oh, Fern was confused. But the other students weren't standing on their - Yeti Hunting? Fern was seriously beginning to think that her fellow peers had succumbed to cabin fever. Or been confundused. But never fear, Professor Morgan! Because Fern, AKA #1 HoM student, had read the book before class! The 13-year-old raised her hand, cleared her throat, and tossed her short hair, "In the book, Professor, one of the Yetis has a head cold. It's sinus congestion is so bad that it is all curled up crying, and Lockhart is thiiiis close to capturing it. But then he hears this yelling from one of his mountain guides, who's getting their arm chewed off by another Yeti, and he has to go save them." |
Look at who they had here. Discretely, Beverly's eyes followed the Headmistress as she walked toward that obnoxious Gryffindor who had annoyed Professor Culloden that one time, and asked him to leave the room with her. Ha. Take that, loser. After that little show, she turned back to her book. She didn't trust any of this rubbish. If Gilderoy Lockhart had lied about his adventures, what made all he wrote true? "Apparently Gilderoy Lockhart gave a Yeti a headcold," she said, raising her hand. Then added, "But not really because he took someone else's credit." Okay, now she was really curious. Promptly raising her hand again, she asked, "If Gilderoy Lockhart isn't a reliable author because he did not personally experience these events, how are we sure that anything written is true?" He could have scandalized some things. Juiced it up for profit. |
Er-the Headmistress in a CLASS? -And now no Headmistress? Kyroh rose from his seat just slightly to get a better look as the red head vanished out of the classroom with Kevin. Was she going to hurt him? She probably wouldn't she was always nice to him. Though it WAS Kevin. On the BRIGHT side if something happened to Kevin that meant the puffs would be saved and then TOBY would be saved so all right! Turning his head back to the front he tried to remember the question that was asked and raised his hand. He didn't NEED to read he already knew a cool fact. "They like to eat a lot and will eat anything. So if you see one you can't even play dead 'cause it will just eat you." |
SPOILER!!: Answers "Thank you for your contributions, everyone!" Nessa turned to the class and smiled widely. "They will certainly help with the activity portion of our class today." Which they were going to be starting next and she was super excited about it! "As you might have gathered from the book and from some of the things your fellow students said today, the Yeti is a very misunderstood creature. They've been given the reputation of being dangerous and vicious, but what is really the motive behind that? Are they just protective and territorial? Or are they inherently hostile or dark? They are difficult to study because not many want to get close to them. But that makes them all the more mysterious. When I went to WADA, one of our regular activities in my improv group was to take some of the incidents out of that book and to act out similar scenarios and possible outcomes. It really helped with critical thinking and determining motivation for all sides, helping for better understanding. And that can be brought into any situation really." She knew they already touched on motivation and getting inside the heads of some of their characters in the last lesson. "So, we're going to put some of that theory into action today. I want you to think about how Yetis are misunderstood and why. Also.. why are they considered Wizardkind's most hard to keep secret? Why are there so many statute breeches and what could be done to better address that?" Sure there was that Task Force, but could there be a better solution because there were still plenty of incidents. "What I'd like you to do today for the rest of the class is to break off into small groups and, using the information provided either by your classmates or in the book, come up with a creative way to express how mysterious and misunderstood Yetis are and how to better understand them or reflect on how to better uphold the Statute of Secrecy when it comes to Yetis or why it is so difficult to maintain with them. Ways to do this are endless - take one of the scenarios and come up with a skit, create an interpretive dance, write an impassioned speech, conduct a mock interview of a 'Yeti'.. anything you can do to creatively get your point across. Then present that to the class with your group." She gestured to the board where she had written some of the information, then towards the back of the classroom. "There are craft supplies in the boxes at the back of the room if you need them at all for anything." If they wanted to make anything for this activity.. she loved crafting! With a wave of her wand, she sent the paper snowflakes she made earlier hovering around the room. Why not set the scene and get better into the mindset. "Any questions?" Quote:

OOC - Please do this in groups of 2-4 if you can. Come up with a creative way to educate others on the mysterious and often misunderstood Yeti using one of those suggestions or come up with your own. This should be done in a minimum of five posts - determining who you are working with, what you all want to do and how to convey it, and presenting it to the class. As there will not be homework assigned after this class concludes, this will also count as your final with more points awarded. Creativity and content is well appreciated! I hope that all made sense, but if you have any questions, please feel free to ask! |
Partners/Groups anybody? A demon came to mind when the professor explained what a chort was. They favored harsh winter conditions. HELLO! That was explaining Hogwarts to a tee. Chorts were here. Chorts everywhere. Hide your kids, hide your hufflepuffs. She heard rumors that they were always the first to die. AJ looked at Adi. He had to survive the chort attack. "Diseases? What diseases?" It seemed like professor was over the chort business though. AJ would just have to corner the creatures professor and bombard him with questions it looked like. The activity sounded like fun though. She could totally be a misunderstood emo yeti. Who did she want to work with? Adi was an obviously choice, but who else? "Anybody wanna work with me?" Or it could be just the two of them if he wanted. It didn't really matter to her. |
Angel now had to try and find a partner for the next part she just didn't know who to ask but then she thought about her sister. "AJ want to be part of my group sis?" Angel thought it would have been funny if they worked together with both her sisters but for now she hadn't seen Abby around and she wasn't sure if AJ wanted to work with her, she had been spending more time with Adi than with her, she was sure those two were in love, well she knew Adi was in love with her sister anyway. |
SPOILER!!: AJ Activity time! Cool! Oh look, AJ was looking in his direction. Did she want him to be in her group? He didn't mind. As long as Benny could join too. Yep. And as long as they didn't have to do anything that involved singing or dancing or acting. "AJ!'' Adi went over to his friend. "I know you want me to work with you so the answer is yes.'' Hehe. Well, he wanted to work with her too, ya know. He had already admitted they made a pretty good team. |
Angel and Adi in here. Angel wanted to work with her, and that was okay with her. Her sister was always welcomed to join her. "I do." She had one partner, and with this sort of activity AJ thought that it would be more fun if there were more people. Then there would br more brains to come up with even more ideas. The first year was just about to ask Adi if he wanted to join them when he beat her to it. He got a smirk from her. "YES! Now I will be able to sleep tonight." Jabbing him right back. Truly, she was happy to work with him. They seemed to bring out the best in each other. It seemed like the only other person missing was Benny. AJ turned to her sister and gave her a goofy grin. Would she know where her mind was? |
