It was difficult to predict how many of the students would be showing up for the workshop, even more difficult still to predict how many would come for the maintenance free-for-all before hand. But considering a great number of the students expressed an interest in feeding the flesh-eaters again, she figured at least they would turn up. After all, it wasn't every day she was able to offer supervision in greenhouse eight.
Having unlocked the greenhouse and set up the work stations for the latter learning experience, Seren milled about sedating some of the more harmful specimens in the greenhouse before returning to the main area. The last thing she needed was a student losing an arm from being too eager to feed them.
With buckets of scrap meat, buckets of dung and a mound of compost laden with wood chips in the middle of the floor everything was set to go. Instead of slacking and observing, she too started by fussing over a growth of sword-lilies, snipping away at the browned and floppy leaves. A quick check of her watch showed that it was eight am... which meant students might be arriving any minute... any minute.
OOC: This is not a lesson, it is a workshop which is optional. You do not need to be on time, as there is no penalty for tardiness. Points will be awarded for participation. Herbology Rules and Expectations and the SS Site Rules still apply. IC rule breaking will result in IC punishment, OOC rule breaking will result in OOC punishment.

Hot Air Charm. Got it. But first, some practice, yes? "Ventus...Ventus...Ventus...Ventus...'' Adi muttered repeatedly. Now, he gave his wand a wave just as Bentley had done. Wave, Wave, Wave the wand! Hehe. Alrightey, he was ready.
"Ventus!'' The Puffer waaaved his wand. Erm...nothing seemed to be happening. Well, the air in front of him wasn't looking all funny like his Professor's. "Ventus!'' he said again, clearer this time and with more concentration. Ah, look! Funny looking air! Adi applied the hot air to the resin's cut and moments later more lilac coloured stuff oozed into the jar.

Oh! Is that the charm that she wanted Lily to teach him? Ethan sat up straight on his chair and repeated the incantation. “Ventus. Got it.” He quickly got his notes and scribbled the incantation and what it does and repeated it over and over in his head.
“Ventus.” This time, the Slytherin got his wand and mimicked Professor Bentley’s wand movement. Little wave, then, “Ventus.”
He didn’t want to ruin his flower, all right? So yes, he left his flower alone for a while and concentrated on the charm. It’ll be dead useful in the coming days because it’s chilly and whatnot. Mhm.

Errr... a new incantation to learn. It's not like she has problems with learning new spells. Ah, who was she kidding? She ALWAYS had problems learning new spells. Thinking that it was best to say it a few times first she gave it a go. "Ventus... Ven-tus... Ventus." It sounded easy enough, but she knew from experience that it wasn't always the case.
AJ did the wave a few times for good measure. Here's to hoping that the spell worked for her on the first time. It would be cool to shoot out hot air when needed. You never know when something like that will be handy.

So they would be using the hot air charm to warm up the resin? That made perfect sense. Being warm it would be easier to work with. Even though Cris was familiar with casting the spell, he first practiced along with the others. He first waved his wand, which was the easiest part of the spell casting, and then he practiced saying the incantation.
"Ven-tus...Ventus....Ventus....Ventus," he said the words clearly. Another easy thing to do. But now was the hardest thing, casting the actual spell. Concentrating on how warm he wanted the air to be and how strong it came out from his wand, Cris pointed it at the point where the resin had slowed down its flowing. Waving his wand, Cris said the incantation,"Ventus" and when he noticed the air around the tip of his wand seemed to be shimmering, he placed his finger in the air.
Yep, it was warm. Glad that he had successfully cast the spell, Cris placed his wand as near to the resin as possible, making sure that the area of the incision was now placed over the jar. He watched as the resin slowly oozed out and trickled down into the jar once more.

A few more waves and repeating the spell in his head, Ethan was good to go.
The Slytherin got his flower and waved his wand around. "Ventus!" Hot air shot out of his wand and he pointed his magic stick on the incision he made earlier. Melting the resin yeah? A few seconds later, goo came out of the cut and Ethan immediately placed the flower on top of the jar to collect its substance.
Coolio!

Increase the surface area. Jeez.
What Grayson was going to take from that was that the cut would make more resin come out of the plant. Uh huh. Which meant more resin for them to use and maaaaaaaaaybe more resin left over for potions experiments. Uh huh. Here's hoping that Bentley would let him take some away. What else was this going to be used for, anyways?
But first came the practice of the Hot Air Charm. "Ventus........ ven-tus....... ven-tus....... ventus........" As for the wand movement, the fourth year held up his wand and gave it a little wave in the way the Professor had done. This spell was going to be dead useful for the colder days. He was going to have to remember this one well.
"Ventus!" he said, waving his wand at a random point in the air. What appeared to be hot air shot out of his wand, making the air near his wand shake. Brilliant. Thoroughly pleased with himself, the boy brought the tip of his wand closer towards the resin and the cut to heat it up. Resin started oozing out more easily, which was the fourteen year old's cue to bring the jar closer and collect up as much of this stuff as he could. Didn't want to waste any of this. Nuh uh.

So not-so-free-flowing resin into free flowing resin with heat. Okay. That makes sense. Heat normally made things more oozy and whatnot. Before Zander could even ask how they were supposed to heat it up, Bentley answered with the hot air charm. It's like she just knew. Hah.
Ventus. Easy enough. "Ventus.... Ven-tus.... VEN-TUS... Ventus," Zander mumbled over and over again to practice. Okie doke it wasn't too bad. Only two syllables. Unlike that weird spell they had to use in Transfiguration that was like a million letters long, Ventus seemed kind of easy?
The Gryffindor gave his wand a little wave and, "Ventus,"ed his resin. Ahem? Is this thing working? Zander pointed his wand towards himself to double check and WOAAAAAH, OKAY YES WORKING. IT'S WORKING. With his hair sticking up in every direction after that blast, Zander decided to you know... Use it on the resin. And oooooh this stuff was totally oozing way faster! Ah drip drip drip into the jar you go!

Then she copied Professor' s wand movements..She waved her wand and she said:"Ventus!"..Hot air went out from the tip of her wand..Lucy pointed the wand near the incision and the resin oozed in her jar!

Maddie sat up a bit straighter after hearing they'd be using a charm she'd never done before. Just another one she'd need to master, it seemed. Not that the hot-air charm would do much good in a duel unless her opponent was standing on an ice cube or something. Was there a spell to make THOSE? She'd need to investigate THAT but for NOW, her attention was focused on ventus.
"Ventus...ventus...ventussssss...ventus...vent us!" Incantation was simple enough to say which was reassuring. As for the wand movement, WELP. Maddie had watched Bentley carefully during the demonstration and now that she had the incantation down, she was willing to give the waving movement a try.

Wow. Who knew Herbology could be so involved? Sophie turned her attention to the professor as the discussion continued. Sophie wasn't familiar with the Hot Air Charm, so she decided to practice it a bit first. "Ventus," she said aloud. "Ventus." After she practiced the incantation, she waved her wand in the same way the professor had. Mmkay. She thought she had this down pat now.
She aimed her wand toward the area they were instructed to cast the charm on. "Ventus!" she said, and then she waved her wand in the same way she'd practiced earlier. She watched as the hot air began to heat the resin, and it did seem to flow more freely into her jar. Cool.

Huh. Who knew that collecting resin could involve so many steps. After watching the demonstration, Lux wrote everything down in her notes before picking up her wand so that she could practice.
First thing was always to start with the incantation. "Ventus." That wasn't too hard. "Ventus... Ventus... Ventus..." Now time to make the wave movements with her wand a few times. Pretty easy. Focusing her attention on her orchid, she used the spell to make the resin flow out more freely into her jar.

It was go time. Hopefully the spell would work correctly for her the first time. The professor had made it look so easy. Then again she was older and had lots of practice. Looking around showed that everybody seemed to be doing okay with the spell work.
Picking up her wand once more she cried, "Ventus." Complicated wand movement happened, and nothing. Of course, this was pretty much the story of her life. "Ventus." Nothing again. She would not throw her magic stick. Focusing hard this time she gave it another go. "Ventus!!!" This time it worked, and she watched the resin flow into the jar.

Brilliant! He had done it correctly. He beamed excitedly. See? Herbology wasn't as bad as some people had told him. It was a lot of work but it was intriguing.
His eyebrows raised at the mention of the hot-air charm. Ventus. That would come in handy. He'd have to remember that when he was outside in the cold. He had read up on the charm and had practiced it once; however, he was not confident in his ability so he decided to practice it a couple of times.
Copying Professor Bentley's wand movements correctly, he did the complicated wand movement and said, "Ventus." He felt his workspace get a little warmer. Oh goody. Now it was time to use it on the plant. They had to heat up the resin in order to get it to flow more freely. He pointed his wand at the place where it was cut and said, "Ventus". It all started to ooze out into the jar more. Cool.
Beverly was back to attempting to jot down notes with her gloved hand. Yeah, no. It wasn't an easy thing. Her handwriting resembled that of a seven-year-old cousin hers. She blinked at something she had written earlier. Okaaaay. She was pretty sure 'Oreos' wasn't part of lecture. Ugh. Terrible gloved-writing for sure.
Setting her quill down and squinting at her handwriting, Beverly decided to just go with what Professor Bentley was saying and worry about her notes later. Picking up her wand she gave it a little wave. Then another and another and another and another until she felt it close to a natural thing.
Now the incantation. "Ventus." Not bad. "Ven-tus." Two syllables. "Ventuuuus." She had this. Now for the real trial.
"Ventus!" Beverly gave a wave of her wand, and promptly warm air blew at her face. She directed her wand toward the table. Warm air was nothing pleasant, but it WORKED.
Directing her currently-hot-air-blowing wand toward the resin, Beverly couldn't help but feel impressed at how deliberately, bit by bit, the resin flowed more freely.
When Cutty was in plain sight again, he was looking quite calm and small. What had he been doing that whole time that he deemed so important? Serenely, the boy took a spot near the other Slytherins and ghosted in to observe the plant. He was pulling at his sleeves, which now seemed almost too long for him and readjusting his dragonhide gloves making sure that there were no gaps for skin exposure, so apparently he had been listening in. Perhaps, even watching. Like a lil creepo.
He next gathered up the jar, scalpel and swab stick sample. Getting up close with the Flesh Eating Fairy Orchid, Cutty held a jar in one hand and the fairy dna in the other as he searched out one of the flowers that looked as though it hadn't digested a fairy yet. He wondered what they tasted like as he gently swabbed at the flower's column. Horrible thoughts occurred in Cutty's demented little mind as he caught the drip of lilac resign. It reminded him of thick bogey. It was for this reason that Cutty remained stimulating the plant for longer than was necessary. Fascination. When it was apparent that he could get no more resin from it and the resin that he had managed to extract was growing hard with the exposure, Cutty removed the swab from the plant, but left the jar beneath it incase there was still some run off.
He held the swab out and above the jar, inspecting it visually and noting the perfumey scent. He'd be behind a bit for the workshop as he waited for the resin to completely harden. There was a charm to practice meanwhile.
"Vehhntoos...Ven-toos...Tus...Ven-TUS...Ventus, ventus." His northerly accent giving the word an almost questioning intonation at first. He looked around at his fellow workshoppers and mimicked their wand motions until he had something consistent. "Venus!", he spoke the incantation trying it out with the wand motion. When he felt a gust of warmth emit from the tip, he looked back to the resin.
The resin, it seemed, took less time to dry and solidify than he'd imagined and as soon as he was done practicing the charm the put his wand down besides his work and traded it for the scalpel. Peering over at what the other students had done, Cutty could see that they had made an incision down the length of the resin. Why?
Keeping the jar beneath the lip of the flower, Cutty carefully incised what resin was left on the plant. The next step, judging from everyone else would be to apply the hot air spell. When he'd gotten further into the dried resin enough that he was almost at the column, Cutty put down the scalpel and picked up his wand once more. "Ventus!" He said performing the wand motion on the bit of resin and seeing why they had cut it lengthwise.
"Professor Ventley...Bentley?" He finally spoke to someone amongst the group. Their teacher, whose name he'd attached quite by accident to the spell she'd just taught them. "Is the resin still dangerous to the skin if it's in it's dried form?"

Once she'd extracted and collected enough of her own resin, Seren let the remaining drops and dribbles dry so that she could take to meandering around the students and inspecting their handy work.
They were all doing quite well, quite well... in fact, she was impressed.

Ventley? VENtley? ... hehe, Seren grinned, tempted to go along with this, but opted not to simply because Vutty didn't sound nearly as appropriate as his slip of the tongue. "Yes dear?" she replied nonetheless. Hearing out the Slytherin, Seren shook her head to indicate she was listening and that she liked what she heard. "An excellent question! ...... yes, yes it is." Though she was perhaps being a little dramatic. "It is harmful with consistent handling, and leads to skin irritability fairly quickly... though it's far from fatal." They wouldn't die. "The outer surface of the resin, the side that has been exposed to oxygen is less harmful than the underside that hasn't oxydised."
But alas, time to continue wandering.. or even packing up...
It seemed that time already. Again.
"Once your jar is near full or the resin production slows significantly, let it dry and start packing up please. Please water, fertilise and thank your orchid for supplying you with resin... and then tidy up your area. Some of the resin will be given to Professor Culloden, the rest will be sold to fund the greenhouses. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask...." but otherwise it was time to get cracking!
Seren left her own workstation for the time being, again opting to do the right thing and supervise the students since the greenhouse was so 'dangerous' pfft.

Wait, it was time to finish up already? Jasmine listened to the Professor's instructions and got to work. Her resin had already stopped flowing for the most part and only an occasional droplet was noted. The jar was almost full so she considered the task a success.
Jasmine let everything continue to dry and went to get some fertilizer. She sprinkled fertilizer onto the soil around her orchid. Then she retrieved her wand and said, "Aguamenti". Jasmine allowed the stream of water to hydrate the soil and when she felt the plant had gotten enough, she said, "Finite". "Thank you little orchid", Jasmine said before starting to clean up her things. Grabbing her gloves, she stuffed them into her bag. When she thought that she had taken care of everything, she sought out Professor Bentley. "Thank you for the lesson Professor. See you next time." Jasmine waited for Cris to finish up so they could leave together.

They were almost done already? That was fast. Adi eyed his jar. It was almost full and the resin had slowed down a lot so he left it to dry and began attending to his orchid plant. A handful of fertilizer was sprinkled at its roots. "Aguamenti!"
After allowing the orchid enough water, Adi said "Finite! There you go, Orchid. Thanks for everything.'' He packed up his belongings, made sure that the workstation was all clean. "Great less- er workshop, Professor!'' the third year told Bentley. And with that, he was on his way back to the Castle.

Hot air charm to melt the solid resin? She could do that. It wasn't a charm she used very often but it had proved useful on the odd occasion...like now apparently. How often did one go about melting resin? What good was it in a potion? Also a very good question right there because they might get to keep these jars after, yeah? For whatever the reason.
"Ventus!"
She watched the dried resin melting out and oozing down into the jar, slowly but at least it was moving. Herbology required patience as she'd come to understand after 6 years, like now. Could this thing be going any slower? It probably could and she shouldn't complain in case it decided to spite her for it. With her jar nearly full and the resin flow coming to a proper stop she put it down to dry and turned her attention to the orchi--Professor Bentley say whaaat?
Lex stuck a hand up even as she pointed her wand at the plant and cast an aguamenti. "Professor, why do we have to give them to Professor Culloden? I mean....I could have lost a finger," except not really, "and I think I'd only be dejected if after working so hard I have to hand over all it. Can't I keep some?" She didn't know what she'd do with it but that didn't mean she was prepared to lose ALL her work.
She grabbed some of the fertilizer and sprinkled some along the soil while she waited on an answer, because yes, she did want one.

Cris immediately paid attention, the moment Professor Bentley began to speak again. Well it looked like they were almost done for the day, which Cris was saddened to hear. However, he was hoping that this would not be the last workshop the professor would be conducting.
For now, he did as the Herbology Professor instructed them to do. He waited until the flow of the resin from the flower slowed down until the drips only came in 2-3 minute intervals. That was that then. While he allowed the resin to dry, he proceeded to finish up with the necessitie and that was watering and fertilizing the orchids. Walking over to the fertilizer bag, he popped his gloved hands inside and scooped up two handfuls of it. Then he returned to his flesh-eating plant and spread the fertilizer liberally over the base of the plant. Tapping down gently on the fertilizer with his finger tips, he proceeded to remove any air bubbles that may be trapped in it before brushing the fertilizer off his fingers.
Unholstering his wand, he added water using the water conjuring spell by pointing his wand at the soil and saying, "Aguamenti". He allowed the water to flow onto the soil and once the it was sufficiently damp, he ended the spell, not wanting to overwater.
Then he began cleaning up his worktable, before packing up his things into his backpack. Leaning over to the orchid, he whispered softly to it, "Now be a good flower and try to not catch too many fairies," he advised the flower before patting its flower with his finger tips.
Then he walked over to speak with Professor Bentley. "Here's my jar of resin, Professor. Thank you for conducting this workshop. It was really an eye opening experience," Cris informed his Herbology Professor while thanking her at the same time.
Then he walked over to Jasmine, giving her a special hey you smile, before leaving the Greenhouse with her.

A jar that was nearly full of resin was a good sign. Uh huh. That meant that there was going to be PLENTY of resin for them to use, and lots more left over. The boy couldn't help but smirk at that, and even moreso when Bentley mentioned that this was going to be given to Culloden. He didn't care about selling it; potions came at a much higher priority thank you.
So, when the jar was nearly full and the resin flow slowed down, Grayson let it dry while he went to pack up his things. Packing up was a very fast process since he unceremoniously dumped his writing equipment into his bag. This wasn't important and he frankly didn't care as long as the little notes he made didn't get ruined. There was no way that he was writing all of that out again.
Grabbing some fertiliser, he added it to the base of the plant, making sure to pack it in nice and tight. It wasn't particularly dangerous but it did need plenty if it was going to grow big and digest all those fairies. The Slytherin then took out his wand and cast "Aguamenti!" to water the orchid. "So, er, thank you for letting me take some resin. That was dead nice of you. Make sure to grow up big and eat as much fairies as you want, mkay?" This was weird, just saying.
Once he was done watering the plant, he stowed his wand away and started tidying up his things. His jar was held in his left hand as he used his right to swing his bag over his shoulder before heading over towards the Professor. "Here you go!" he said, holding out the jar, "Thanks for the workshop, by the way." Dead useful, it had been.

Ventus. Marigold actually knew this one, namely because her dad used to use it a lot and she kinda learned it by association. She pointed her wand at the plant and said clearly, "Ventus." The resin flowed more freely, which was nice. She waited a bit until the flow came to a gradual crawling, then took the jar out from underneath it.
She patted some fertilizer around the plant, muttered a quick Aguamenti, then giggled because Gray was talking to his plant. Eheheheheheh.
"Thanks, professor!" she said, handing her the jar. It had been fun, and she still had all her limbs!

Zander waited for a bit more of the resin to ooze into his jar. Then as if on cue, both his jar was full and the resin production slowed down. He raised his jar to eye level and inspected it's contents. Once he was fully satisfied he gave a huge grin and brought it back down. Awh, packing up already? But-But-but it was so soon. And Zander was actually enjoying the workshop. Sigh. As directed, the third year began packing up all his belongings and took out his wand one last time. "Aguamenti!" a stream of water shot out of the tip of his wand and made contact with the orchid.
Noticing that he left his table kind of messy, he took a napkin from his bag and wiped it off. See, he's a good kid. Before leaving his plant behind he made sure to thank it like Bentley had asked. "Thanks for the resin, and for not poisoning me!" Then grabbing his things he made his way to the doors. "Bye Professor! See you later," he shouted.

It was time to go? He frowned.
Simon watched as the resin slowly started to fill the top of the jar. It was done. Perfect. He was done. "Augmenti!" he said as he pointed his wand at the orchid. Then he fertilized the plant and thanked it for the supply of resin. Thanking it? he thought. He bit his lip. This was a little bit different. But Eh. He did it anyway.
Next, he placed his jar on the clean side of the table so it could not only start to dry but so Simon could start cleaning his workspace. With a slightly damp wipe, he cleaned his area and then packed up his things. With a kind smile and a quick wave, he said, "Thanks Professor! It was fun. See you later." He handed her the jar and then left the workshop.
