After supplying the term's password, ‘Legatus’, the Fat Lady swings her portrait open revealing the entrance to your home away from home. The hearth has a few low burning embers just enough to give it a homely warm feeling in the Scottish highlands, and its low light illuminates the comfy armchairs before it.
While the common room looks as it always has, minus the fairly new resident of Gryffindor tower - the animated Lion topiary from last term, the study tables have been moved into the main area and boast a selection of sweets, savouries and drinks. Chocolate frogs, cauldron cakes, pumpkin pasties, buttered popcorn and freshly cut fruit are placed on one side of each table, accompanied by an assortment of hot chocolate, tea and juice.
For those who are returning, this is an excellent opportunity to catch up with friends and for those that are newly sorted, this is an opportunity to make friends. Unless your bed is beckoning you, sit, relax, have some snacks and chat. Your Head of House and House assistant wish you a pleasant start to the new school term.
OOC: This is the common room thread for after the start of term feast - our first night home! The general common room thread will open in 3-4 days for regular RP. Welcome to, or welcome back to, Gryffindor!

Her sister was home sick and as much as Aubrey was not, she could understand where she was coming from. "It's okay Ang. I bet after the first night you will be as good as new." Plus, she was here with her so she wouldn't be truly alone. "No mum and dad here to watch over our every move." That was a plus right? It was for Aubrey anyways.
AJ looked in the direction of where Benjamin was. "We've already met silly." They met at the feast when Adi was teasing them. It was most likely best if she didn't bring that little fun fact up. "Hey Benjamin, come and grab a stick." She was bound and determined to roast something dangit.
"Oh, I see. At least there is food." And she couldn't really complain about that too much. "Cool. I'll be waiting." AJ was actually looking forward to the sleepover and hoped that they really would be able to set it up for another time. "Will you be roasting with us?" she asked indicating the sticks that the dude was holding.
Cue beaming. "Thanks. I guess the sorting hat takes into consideration what your face looks like because only one of my sisters is in this house." What other reason could the sorting hat possibly have in regards to them not all being lions?

[B]"I'm afraid not... the risk is too great for us to take chances, there will be no quidditch and no flying, end of discussion."[/B
It was the end of the discussion just like that? Aubrey had never been able to do anything other than clean with a broom and as soon as she heard about flying at Diagon Alley she was stoked. It would be safe to say that flying was the thing that she was looking forward to the most. "What other cool stuff will we get to do?" she asked a little defeated.
She was ready to move on the the food. At least THAT wouldn't let her down. Where was her stick? AJ looked at the guy who kept going on about the sticks, but had yet to give her one. "Yoohoo... me, pick me!" Did she have to beg for it?
SPOILER!!: Benny
He was brought out of his stupor by his own name being shouted, the third year shaking his head absently to try and clear his head and just focus on the present. Like the direction the elevated call had come from which turned out to be Angel...or Aubrey...or Angel. Both girls were standing there in matching uniforms next to each other. And since the feast they both knew him and his name.
Oh boy.
Wait...speaker was Angel since she mentioned meeting Aubrey. Benny couldn't help shake his head again to free the confusion as he walked over to the two sisters. "Technically we did meet."
While her sister got her memory together, AJ took it upon herself to get to know Benjamin a bit better. "So Benjamin, how's it going?" He didn't talk very much and AJ thought that was kind of weird, but only because she herself loved to talk sooo much that she couldn't wrap her head around why others may not feel the same way as her.
"How old are you? How do you like being in Gryffindor?" She hoped that all of her questions weren't making him uneasy. "Did you wanna roast with us?" Because he totally could if he wanted to.
SPOILER!!: Lex
That was always the brightside wasn't it? When things went wrong people generally looked to food to make it better? That's what she would probably be doing really soon because again, she was still put off by the lack of notice. At the very least she could have rescheduled her little thing. "Just have to wait for the Professors to leave. They don't usually stay in the Common Room so we should be good on that." She didn't reckon they'd be staying long either. They'd wanna uphold even a little bit of the curfew for the busy day ahead or something like that. "Roasting?" It was then that she noticed the sticks. Oh! "Don't see why not." S'mores were always a yes.
Lex waved her off lightly at her assessment of the hat. "Nah, if you mean the sister that had her nose in a book during Diagon Alley I gotta say the hat saw more than her face. It takes more than a certain look to be a Gryffindor, it's impressive you've got it." Gryffindor was an impressive house in itself and she was now a part of the wider impressiveness.
The first year was liking the way that Lex was saying that the real party would stop once the professors were out of here. She was really liking the sound of that. Not that they were really hurting anything and the were roasting food on a stick so that was always a bonus. "Okay." Yay. She wanted to grab a stick and roast with her, but why wouldn't she? Who would really say no to food in any form?
Aubrey Valentine was impressive, the older girl had just confirmed it. "Oh yeah, I remember different people telling me things that the hat took into consideration so I guess that would be true." Abby was very different from her in so many ways. It kind of sucked that she was in a different house, but at the same time it was nice to have a little independence from her sister. Sure, Angel was here with her but it was one less sister to deal with.
When were the professors going to be leaving. She had to try to hide a yawn. She did NOT want to look lame in front of the cool older girl.
So he wasn't losing it.
Aubrey agreed with him about their introduction at the feast, even called him Benjamin like he himself had said not Adi or Angel. Not that it mattered much but for now he would stand with them for lack of other companions. Sticks? Oh they were roasting stuff and making smores as elaborated by Professor Flamsteed. Ben was into that.
"Sure..." he said, retrieving a stick of his own.
And now for the questions she was aiming his way. "It's going good. Definitely glad to be back at Hogwarts." Was that a good enough answer for that? Benny certainly couldn't think of anything deeper that didn't feel weird to say. "I'm thirteen and love being in Gryffindor." It was like a family of siblings for a boy that had none. He wasn't sure how it felt or would feel to someone who already did. It was then that their companion decided to rejoin the conversation.
SPOILER!!: Angel

"Eh did you two say something?" Angel suddenly realised that Aubrey and Benny were actually talking to her, she blushed as she realised that she hadn't heard a single word that was said by both of them. "Sorry cutie." Angel was still half day dreaming and so used his nickname. "Sorry Sis." Angel pouted hoping her sister would forgive her.
Angel had seemed distracted. Actually she clearly was distracted, especially when she asked if they had said anything. He and Aubrey had been talking or rather he had been answering the other girl's questions. "Nothing really," he answered to her own question. There hadn't really been anything important in his remarks that she absolutely needed to know. The fact that she had been lost in her thoughts made him wonder again if she was okay but opted not to push it.
There was that word again. Cutie. Ben fought the urge to blush once more, the title or adjective or whatever it was making him self-conscious. Even if he had the feeling Angel wasn't trying to be "Um....its okay."

She beamed when he complimented her name. "Yeah! Go us! That's so cool. I've never met anyone with the same name as me, and I bet you haven't either, right? That means we're really cool." As far as she was concerned.
She nodded, smiling again at what the older boy said. "You're right! I'll be thirteen. And thirteen is basically an adult, which means that I'll look old and not like a first year." She wrinkled her nose, making a face. Thirteen also had other upsides, but she didn't think Tag cared that she could kiss boys when she turned thirteen. She tapped his arm when he said how old he was. "I know older people." Obviously. But still. "It's your last year, then? Are you excited? Or sad? I'd probably be sad. But I don't know yet, of course." She sighed. Oh, to be seventeen and leaving Hogwarts.
S'mores! Yes, she heard Professor Flamsteed yelling about them. So when Tag suggested they get some, Lana nodded. She took a step toward the Astronomy teacher before remembering her plate of food. She deliberated for a moment on how to handle this situation before finishing off her drink, throwing away the cup, and grabbing her plate. She beamed up at Tag to show him that she was ready before marching off in the direction of s'mores. Yes, Professor. She'd like a marshmallow please.
Look at her! She was adorable. Tag was liking her 'Go *insert a word here*' whenever she said it. It was so different and random, he enjoyed it. "No. No other Tag's I've known of. Exactly, because no one else has our names we're automatically cool!" Totally made sense, and it was logical too. Ok? Okay.
Tag smiled at Lana. Thirteen wasn't an adult, but he wouldn't tell her that, she seemed excited to be turning 'adult' soon. So Tag just went along with the flow. "Yeah, thirteen is almost being an adult, and it means you can do really fun things and if you get in trouble you can just say 'Adults can never get in trouble'." Tag said. Only, don't do that in front of Professors, they may not like the sass. "Don't say that in front of Professors, though." He warned her, giving her a little point of the finger. Oh. Then, the whole 'how do you feel about graduating' like question. Which Tag had never really thought of much. "I don't think I'm sad or happy, I think I'm just more nervous for the future, you know? Hogwarts is like a safe place. You know you'll always go to school, and see your friends. But after Hogwarts it seems harder? Like you're more on your own and have to figure things out by yourself." That's what he felt about it.
The blonde watched Lana. Apparently tonight was 'this bloody plate was getting in my way' night. But Lana was smart enough to finish her juice so she could still keep her plate. He smiled at her and then followed her to Flamsteed. "We'd like to try and make some s'mores Professor." Tag said to the man, giving him a smile. So sticks and marshmallows and graham crackers, pass them over spaceman.

When Bay yelled across the room to get Cinnamon’s attention, Louis snorted. Just like his best mate to be totally out there. “Are you serious?” He actually thought taking a canary cream would be FUN?! Typical. Typical Bay. Louis couldn’t help laughing again, shaking his head in disbelief. “That’s one activity I don’t think I’ll be joining you in soon,” he said with a smile. Nah, he much liked his limbs long and human.
OHMYGOSH.
Now Bay was flapping around like a giant chicken, cawing and stuffing his face with cauldron cake. Louis was literally in tears. Was it just him, or had Bay gotten even more ridiculous over the summer? Maybe that canary cream hadn’t COMPLETELY worn off. Yeah, that had to be it. “Mate!” Lou breathed between laughs, but it was impossible to regain his composure. Nope. No serious Lou as long as Bay was around, acting like a giant chicken.
This was NOT the time to be funny, Alexa.
Seriously? SERIOUSLY? She was worried about him throwing up on her candy bag? He assumed she’d be a little more worried about her shoes and uniform but nope, the girl had totally different priorities from him, obviously. The absurdity of it would've normally amused him, if it wasn’t for the cauldron cakes tickling his throat in an attempt to pour out.
Lou gagged and brought a hand to his mouth. Fortunately - or perhaps not so much - Alexa had released him a moment later.
Well, the good news was Louis didn’t feel the need to puke over anyone’s candy bag anymore.
The bad news was that he’d died. At the tender age of fifteen, Louis Bolton passed away due to a rough landing on his head.
… I’m kidding, he didn’t die, but he lay motionless on the floor. KO’ed.
Right as Louis finished his first sentence about not touching his hair with permission he did it again and moved a few steps backwards to get out of the way of his reach, laughing of course. "yeah man" he answered as he looked at Lou "hey" he shrugged "it wasn't that bad ahahahah"
he was totally joking about being a bird this time because it was fun and making Louis laugh was totally worth it. while he was a chicken around the common room Bay he turned around and something must have happened because Louis was on the floor??? was he just kidding or was he okay? "errr Louis??" what was happening this year, it seemed to start off crazier than the last.

She didn't even dignify the boy with a response, and it seemed neither did Airey.
... and it was times like this that reminded her why she didn't visit the common room. Students, or more effectively - Zahra Kettleburn, running indoors and endangering the lives of her peers.
She supposed between Kettleburn, Cambridge and the others, it was a miracle the place hadn't burned down by now. It was a miracle she would continue praying for... mmhmm.
Surprised by the girls questions, Seren's brows piqued a little as she spared the room and its decor a glance. "No, I didn't have much of a say in it at all," she replied casually, her brows relaxing as she fluffed up a red cushion affectionately. Goodness knew how old this stuff was. "Red and gold are the House colours, so it's the only logic I can offer for why it's been used for the common room," she replied with a kind smile. Did the girl not like red? She could see how it might be seen as overwhelming, and it did little to settle ones stomach. Red, usually encouraged people to eat more - it was why food labels and restaurants used the colour so frequently.
Of course, with all the new faces, it didn't come as a surprise that she almost missed one... almost, except he was delightful enough to introduce himself. And wasn't he just earnest... such... a ... darling.
"It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance Ezra Earnest," she beamed warmly, and what he said next had her beaming even more - if that was even possible. "You have no idea how delighted I am to hear you say that," she replied, perhaps holding back a tear that might have been welling. Of course she couldn't well cry in front of the children, so to distract from this, she stood and wrapped an arm around the boys shoulder, pulling him into a hug. Poor Ezra had no means of escape now... but after a brief moment, she let go.
"I promise by the end of the school term you'll have plenty to tell your mum."
Miss Messer was a darling, this much could already be ascertained in this first meeting. Seren was simply thrilled with the first years this year, and their new transfers were promising too. Their family was growing, and it was just beautiful.
"Your brother! That's wonderful, please do pass on my regards," she beamed. If Candice was anything like her brother than Gryffindor was in for a treat.
And that was delightful. Pleased, Seren nod and smiled as Bay spoke of his holiday adventures, and internship too. "Aaaahhh, and how was the internship? Was it at all what you expected?" she asked, curious. The fieldtrip stuff, well, she'd heard enough from the others, it was a blessing she opted not to go.
"It was very pleasant, I got to spend more time with my family, plenty of day trips with my son and husband... and time in the garden beneath the glorious sun..."
Could they go back on holiday now? As great as it was to be back, she couldn't deny that the summer break had been nice. Really nice.
Distractions, it did not surprise her that Cambridge had distractions... but nevertheless, she wasn't going to ask. Word on the grapevine was she was rather smitten with an Eagle, teehee, and while she longed to call her out on it, there were some things she just didn't want to know. Smiling and nodding was happening as she listened, slowing at the point about Quidditch and deciding she wanted to come to come to school in spite of it? "Oh well I'm thrilled you convinced yourself, I'd hate to be a prefect short..." because this was a joke right? Right? She winked regardless, so if it wasn't a joke before, it was now.
Seren bounced on the balls of her feet, thrilled with the plans they were forming already, and with additional company too. "Fist of October should be fine, I'll pencil you in and we'll negotiate a time." It was virtually planned, and now she had things to look forward to. Excellent!
But now.... a cup of tea was calling her name.
SPOILER!!: Louis, Lex, Airey
....
........
..........
But Merlin... she turned her back for mere seconds, SECONDS, and a student was rendered unconscious, a prefect no less, and at Cambridge's hand. She'd have rushed over and done the HoH thing, but Airey was proving himself useful and he was no doubt far more capable of caring for Louis than she was.
Seren gave Airey a curt nod of acknowledgement and thanks, see, it really was no wonder she didn't venture up here often. And there he went with schmoes thing, that thing, she was curious.
Tea in hand, she sidled up beside her colleague. "You're going to have to talk me through this, I'm clueless."
"the Internship was amazing." he blushed "and I wanted to thank you again for your letter" yay Bay had some manners, phew. oHHH Bay felt like a very bad student, he didn't know she was married and had a child.. eeeeepppp maybe one of these days he'll get to meet them, the gardening part on the other hand didn't faze him. She was the Herbology Professor after all.
chuckling he said "ohhhh how old is your son?" he would feel even worse if her son went to hogwarts.

Okay, so AJ knew that her sister was having a hard time being away from home, but this whole dazed and confused thing was new to her. "Umm, you sure everything else is okay?" After her sister got through the first night she was sure that she it would all be downhill from there. "How about some food?" Did she already ask that? Oh well, either way Angel didn't hear her.
She glanced over at Benjamin to see if he looked as confused as she did, and in her opinion it looked like he was. Why did her sister continue to refer to him as cutie? Sure, he wasn't bad looking, but it just seemed weird to her. Her sister was boy crazy and AJ was so not. ”No need to apologize.”

"Hogwarts seems really awesome, and I can't wait to explore every inch of it." She fully intended to do that too. "Any particular places that I just have to see?" They could be off limits too, AJ wasn't too crazy about always following the rules.
Thirteen huh? Maybe her sister had a thing for older boys. She wanted really bad to bring that topic up, but didn't want to embarrass her sister after Adi had a really good run of doing just that not too long ago.

Looking forlornly towards the fire place fora moment, he walked over to the pair and checked on the boy. Still breathing. That was a good sign. "Let's just get him up off the floor then, shall we," he said as he scooped up the male prefect and brought him over to one of the sofas and lay him down on it, throwing one of the crimson blankets over him. He then ventured a glance towards Seren and shrugged. "Suppose if we just leave him there he ought to come around soon." Hadn't been that terrible a fall, had it? "Pity he will be missing the schmo making."
Speaking of which...
"Who wants to make some delicious hot schmoes!? I've got plenty of sticks and marshmallow for all!"
The Professor would need some work trying to hide the amused look. He'd been wearing it all evening and she was beginning to think that she'd become a big joke without really knowing HOW. Lex couldn't remember the Professor being this mean. Only joking, she wasn't that sensitive. Still, a little heads up would have saved her all the trouble. She could have gotten caught on the way up. "Surprize, right, it's definitely a surprize." But that would be her only comment on the matter because like he said, she'd be enjoying this festive stuff....er....as soon as he fixed Louis.
Or, you know, he could just leave him like that, it wouldn't be any skin off her back. Lex happened to LAIK being the only Prefect last year, this was hardly a problem...minus the looks the Professor was giving. Him and Professor Bentley.
The Gryffindor happily stepped out of the way, resisting the urge to get that last kick out. If the Professor knew what he was doing then by all means. While she suspected she was meant to show even a lick of remorse for what she did, the girl couldn't help but have her hand shoot up at the mention of s'mores. S'mores > Botlon. The simplest equation out there.
"I'll have some! And...I assume he'll be alright, yeah?" SEE?? SHE COULD PRETEND TO CARE WHEN NEEDED. Ahem.

"Yet." Lex corrected, though she was sure they wouldn't. This set proved to be a lot more 'chill' than previous ones. It wasn't like way back when they had people like Vickers and Elliot who believed and tried getting others to believe in the superiority of their house. Pfft. Right. "Doesn't matter, you're with us now so we're practically family. Think that's a rule somewhere." An unwritten one maybe.
And did she just say the ghost was 'okay'. Lex's mouth nearly fell open but she was more composed than that so she merely nodded. In her memory Sir Nicholas didn't talk funny but then her brain worked differently so maybe he did. "Did he share the story of why he's nearly headless?" That was a good one though she could tell it wasn't one of his favourites...understandably so.
Glancing over, she spotted Ezra had already gotten himself a seat and was gesturing to them. Lex nodded toward him, drawing the girl's attention to him. "Looks like he saved us seats. You coming?" She asked, before heading over and flopping next to him. BRING ON THE SUGAR!

Well........"I don't think being a Prefect short would be too bad. It was like that last term and I mean...if Bolton doesn't wake up I reckon we'll have to go right back to that." Er....not that she WAS hoping he wouldn't wake up or anything. Nah, that would have been bad form right there and let's face it, she was too young for Azkaban, don't you think? Besides, she'd have to listen to Delilah going on and on about her outting her boyfriend and as appealing as that all sounded, she'd have rathered not. Funny how the Professor thought she was joking about that convincing herself thing.
OH and her plan for Lottie was a go! "Excellent! Can't wait--oh and I do still get that snargaluff, right? Now that I even got myself an 'E' in Herbology? I'm all kinds of competent. Oh so they were going to continue with Gobstones. Well maybe he would go play that since he couldn't play Quidditch. And then again maybe not.
He had just opened his mouth to say something when a raised voice from the corner of the room caused him to pause. He turned his head slightly to listen. It appeared Zahra was getting on someone's nerves. Hehe. It wasn't the first time and it wouldn't be the last either.
His girlfriend could take care of herself so that's why he wasn't going over there to get in the guy's face, but he would be listening.
He turned his attention back to Alexa. "So looks like you're going to have to get your license the legal way then huh?" He was quietly relieved that she hadn't gone through with her daring mission into the Ministry. And as for stuff that they could do, Michael trusted that she would tell him later when it was a more appropriate time.
You know...she'd never actually thought of it that way but what if Mikey was right? What if the threat was really just a part of something bigger? Had to admit that was an interesting thought right there. "Maybe...kinda like when they got us ice-cream that one year then tried feeding us to the dementors." That hadn't been a very good term. Not at all. Couldn't even enjoy the ice-cream proper.
"Guess it's gonna be another term of keeping our eyes peeled and trying not to die. Should be easy enough with all the Aurors around." If push came to shove Lex was positive the Headmistress would sacrifice them in an effort to save the students so their chances of survival already increased greatly. Would you look at that.
She could see a sentence lost of Mikey's lips and followed his gaze with her own eyes. What she saw didn't surprize her and it didn't seem to surprize him either. How could it? He must have known Zahra REALLY well by now.
Lex shrugged at his question. "Yeah, looks like it, but only by default. I'll be off age by the time summer rolls around again." An exciting thought might she add. Magic outside school, she'd been waiting on this for ages.

There were other things that could just as easily break the ice but she wouldn't go there. Ahem. No. Professors were standing right there and she'd actually bothered to stick the badge on her robe by now. See the problem?
"Think I'll call you Em, you don't mind right?" Because it was already decided as much and her mind wouldn't be changing anytime soon. "That's interesting. You don't sound French...or English. You American?" Delilah was too but the girl had gained something like another accent by now so Lex could hardly compare them.
Emmylou looked around the common room while listening to Alexa speak. The Prefect had her attention at candy. Candy was the best food in the world. No! The universe. Why couldn't candy and junk food be healthy? Mostly candy though. "Candy is the best way to throw the best party ever but so is junk food. I prefer candy though." Emmylou smiled. She was fully in the conversation now...not that she wasn't before.
Emmylou nodded. "No, no. I have a few other friends that call me Em so it's perfectly alright." Emmy smiled, she was really alright with a lot of nicknames or new nicknames just as long as they're not mean ones. Emmy's ocean blue eyes lit up when her accent was noticed, there was the second person to figure it out but she was the first to ask what her accent was. "Yes, American. I'm from Alabama." Emmylou was proud of where she was born and raised. It was Nick's first night in Hogwarts after the school fest which was absolutely delicious he had had that type of meal since his brother Zack graduated from Hogwarts. His parents were just happy that he had completed his school and now he could live on his own and work for his living and also because he would be away from them so they could have their peace with Nick who they felt like saying he was their only son.
He kept repeating the password in his mind until he reached the door to the common room. He did want to stay out on his first night at Hogwarts. Clearing his throat so the words come out clearly, he said “Legatus” and the door slide open. He walked in just to see that it was already crowed. How late was he anyways or had he been eating a lot. He didn’t remember much of eating since he was busy looking at the ceiling or which appeared to look like one. He was just very happy to be here and make new friends. He hoped no body recognized his as Zack brother now that would be a bummer.

Angel smiled at Benny, she still wasn't aware that she had used his nickname. "Okay that is good." Angel was really worried she had missed something very important but at least that didn't seem to have happened. "So what lesson are you looking forwards too?" Angel hoped that he would say Herbology because she wanted to work with him on that subject, she loved gardening and he seemed to be one that would be interested in the subject.

"Yeah everything is okay." Angel smiled as she thought about something then she whispered to her. "I was just thinking it would be cool to have a party in the first year dorm, you know pillow fight and sweets and a midnight feast and things like that." Angel didn't want to get into trouble but that way they could meet all the fellow first year, who they would share a dorm with.
"I'd love some food." Angel was starting to feel a bit hungry even if she had just eaten down in the great hall. "So what we going to do first?" Angel smiled at her sister hopefully she wouldn't do anything bad because Angel didn't want to do anything bad.

Professor Bentley was the Herbology Professor so what about this old man over here? "What subject do you teach, Professor?"
....
There's no puke but the male Prefect was now laying on the floor not moving. Is he dead? Its her first day here and she already saw someone dead? Blink. But then Flameseed Flamesteed said the older boy was alright and he brought Louis over to one of the sofas. She went over to the sofa where Professor Flamsteed put the Prefect.
Pet..Pet...Pet..
Poor Louis.

Schmoes? Nope. No, thank you. Not her. Marshmallow screamed sugar. And no sugar for this girl.
"Astronomy," he proudly replied as he tugged on his suit jacket just near his armpits. You know, the sort of smug looking gesture a man had when he was especially pleased about himself. Man, mind you, not old man. Man.
He watched as she tended to the prefect, petting him like he was a familiar, and chuckled. "You keep an eye on him then, Miss Messer?"

As far as she was concerned.

"Oh yeah, I remember different people telling me things that the hat took into consideration so I guess that would be true." Tag smiled at Lana.

Won't get myself eaten, honest." Now getting others eaten was a different story, one she probably shouldn't comment on. Just saying.
You know...she'd never actually thought of it that way but what if Mikey was right? What if the threat was really just a part of something bigger? YOU GET A STICK! AND YOU GET A STICK! AND YOU! AND YOU! EVERYONE GETS A STICK!
The way the Astronomy professor was passing out roasting sticks was slightly reminiscent of the way he had seen his muggle dentist handing out tooth brushes to children. Only these were much better than some tooth brush. Couldn't roast a marshmallow on one of those. Plastic would melt and make a real mess.
He hadn't actually seen any of the biting taking place, his attention being elsewhere at the time, and ....well...he had already handed Miss Kettleburn a stick by the time Mr. Adair had said something. "There will be no whacking or poking or dueling of any sort," he warned, his voice serious. "Real collector's item here. Bought them from a vintage muggle hobby shop." So...any damage done to them would result in some serious consequences.
SERIOUS consequences.
And then Mr. Kildare was talking about......s'mores? What were those? No matter, he handed the seventh year and the young lioness with him a stick before turning his attention to his colleague.
"It is quite a simple process really," he explained to Seren. "First you shove a marshmallow on the end of the stick and put it in the fire. Not directly in though, unless you fancy the burnt flavor."
His marshmallow secured, the astronomer gingerly inched it towards the fire place and waited.

AJ recognized the other kid that she was with, but where did she know him from? She had seen so many people lately that it was hard to keep them straight unless they had managed to leave some sort of impression on her, and he obviously didn't. "The robe shop." The words fell out before she could remember to keep them in. She sometimes had a hard time keeping her thoughts as thoughts.
Moving on... "Really? That would be the last house that I would think I would be in." Not that she wasn't smart or anything, but she was no Abby. "I don't know what Slytherin is like so I can't really say for that house." For some reason or another she hadn't met any Slytherins so far.
SPOILER!!: Angel
"Yeah everything is okay." Angel smiled as she thought about something then she whispered to her. "I was just thinking it would be cool to have a party in the first year dorm, you know pillow fight and sweets and a midnight feast and things like that." "I'd love some food." Angel was starting to feel a bit hungry even if she had just eaten down in the great hall. "So what we going to do first?" Angel smiled at her sister hopefully she wouldn't do anything bad because Angel didn't want to do anything bad.
"I'm glad sis." Who could be anything but excited at Hogwarts? Her sister needed to put a smile on her face and breathe. AJ listened as she whispered to her. Normally she would have said her piece out loud, but if Angel wanted to keep this a secret then it was fine by her.
The first year leaned in to her sister's ear. "Ohhh... that sounds like fun. We should do that." Plus, she hadn't met all of the first years yet. She was pretty sure that she had only met one of them actually. So Angel's idea was really good. "First let's roast some stuff. Do you see any chocolate? She was in the mood for a s'more. "I wonder how much longer because the older peeps are out of here."

YAY! Sticks for everybody. "Thanks." AJ grabbed hers and looked back to the group of people that she was with. Come to think of it she had never introduced Angel to Lex. Maybe they had managed to meet before?
She had no intention of doing anything other than roasting with her stick. Food was serious business you know. She popped a marshmallow on her top and stuck in straight into the fire. She loved the burnt flavor the flames gave it. Her mouth was watering!
"Yes of course, Professor." Maybe she should mentioned the Herbology Professor first on her letter then the big news that she's a Gryffindor not a Puff like him? Yup. She's going to that owlery tomorrow and send her brother a letter.

He watched as she tended to the prefect, petting him like he was a familiar, and chuckled. "You keep an eye on him then, Miss Messer?"
Astronomy? Sun, Stars, Planets and all that Alien stuffs? Yeah that's not her things. Sorry, Professor. But she's not going to tell him that not after the old man looking all smug.
Candice looked up when the Astronomy Professor addressed her. Keep an eye on the Prefect? Yeah, sure."She could do that.
SPOILER!!: Lex

Lex didn't need to worry, she wouldn't go running to the Blue side. Family? She liked that. "Yes, Family stick together." Nodnodnod.
Did he? Hmm she didn't remember the Gryffindor ghost telling them story about how he nearly headless. "I'm not sure. I was a bit occupied that time." Or in other word hungry. "Do you know why he's nearly headless?"Tell me. Tell me. Tell me.
Sitting with Ezra and Lex? "Sure." She promised Professor Flamsteed to keep an eye for Louis but he's still unconscious and its not like he'd move around. The eleven year old followed the female Prefect to where Ezra was.

AH AGAIN WITH THE VIOLENCE. And she wasn't just BITING him. SHE WAS SINKING HER TEETH IN HIS ARM. AHHHH. So much for walking away unbruised. Zander would've hit her in an act of self defense. But he can't hit a girl. Can he? No, that's not allowed. He'd probably end up in azkaban.... Or worse, detention in the dungeons! So instead he did the only thing he could think of doing. Tugged his arm away. BUT DANG, this girl had some power in that bite.
OWwwwwwww. The tugging only made it worse.
"GET IT OFF." Once she did release, WHICH TOOK FOREVER, there were bite marks left over and blood. HOW!? "NOW LOOK WHAT YOU'VE DONE!" IT'S BLEEDING. ARE YOU HAPPY NOW? ARE YOU? Girls are stupid.
He let out an audible groan.
YES. HE VOLUNTEERS. ZANDER VOLUNTEERS AS TRIBUTE. Anything that will get him as FAR away as possible from that evil little girl [*pointed look at Zahra*]. Maybe he could even use the stick to STICK HER IN THE EYE. After all his arm was STILL bleeding. "I would like one professor. But you might want to keep the sticks away from SOME people [*pointed look at Zahra x2*] because SOME of us like to use violence instead of words. HMPH."
This kid. Man. Zahra was tempted to beat him up with a couch cushion additionally, but NOW THAT SHE HAD A STICK........ she watched him.... thinking.....

Adair had said something. ....no whacking, poking, or dueling. WHAT ABOUT IMPALING MISSORTED PUFFIES IN THE COMMON ROOM? SLAY THE PUFF!
But whatever. Not worth her time. Zahra gave ZANDER a RASPBERRY GOODBYE.
She'd just beat him up with a couch cushion later. TIME TO PUT THIS STICK IN A FIRE! WOO! WOO!

"I can't wait to tell her!" he grinned at Professor Bentley. Maybe he'd be able to show his mom up in the garden?
She hadn't expected to hug the boy, let alone have him return the hug with one of his own. But the gesture was nice. Smiling, Seren pulled away delighted that the boy was keen to tell his mother. "You absolutely should, I'm sure she'd love to hear about it." It was a mother thing. She would know.

Other cool stuff? "Eeerr..." she mused, "well... there's still gobstones." That was something, "And there are endless things you can do with your time here." Like study, and the like... see, endless. SO much fun to be had by all.

She was the Herbology Professor after all.
chuckling he said "ohhhh how old is your son?" he would feel even worse if her son went to hogwarts.
"It's not a problem at all... I'm here for anything you need," and job references was one of them. It had been her pleasure really, and though she hated any form of paper work, it had taken her no time at all to whip it up.
How old was Derfael? .. "Two... he'll be three in May," she supplied, a warm smile brightening her features. She would be home for this birthday, she would make sure of it. In fact, she already had the day booked off.

Won't get myself eaten, honest." Now getting others eaten was a different story, one she probably shouldn't comment on. Just saying.
Oddly enough, the Prefect had a point, a rather scary point at that. Seren simply "Mmmm,"d in response, unwilling to accept the answer as it was. Frankly, without an Alice to keep Lex in line, she couldn't fathom having her be the sole Lion student leader.
As for the Snargaluff pod... Merlin, she hadn't forgotten about that ... "Like I said, when you graduate," she nodded, convinced the girl would not be having one whilst she was still at school. And an E was competent but an O would have been far better. In fact ... "And how did you not acheive an O?" Just wondering.

See... this is why she was thankful to have Airey's help and support... she wouldn't have had a single clue what to do with one of those stick things, let alone the food. Why would you ruin perfectly good food by putting it on a stick, and burning it?... or at least, near burning it.
"Uh huuuhhh..." she mused, accepting a stick and a mallow, then awkwardly skewering it. "I'm going to hazard a guess and say the burn flavour is not so good?" It seemed nonsensical, but she ought to check before trying these things out. Inching closer to the fire, Seren mirrored Airey's movements and held her mallowed stick close to the heat - if not the flames.

Zander was so relieved to see that this Zahra girl was finally leaving. "I hope your marshmallow catches on fire," he quietly grumbled to himself. Hmph. He wasn't actually a Hufflepuff like she had accused, but after meeting this nasty lion, Hufflepuff didn't sound half bad.
HA. HEAR THAT ZAHRA? No violence allowed. Zander smirked and this time looked her in the eyes whilst sticking out his tongue. But then walked away with his new smores stick like a mature young adult, a mature young adult who occasionally sticks out his tongue and grumbles mean things under his breath.

Walking towards the fireplace, Zander noticed the visible uneasiness of Professor Bentley. "Hi Professor, first time roasting marshmallows?" Or was she always this awkward whilst roasting? Zander hadn't had the chance to talk to his herbology profess AND head of house before because she was busy speaking to everyone else. That and the fact that he was so shy at the start of all of this, but his anger towards Zahra seemed to help him break out of his shell a little bit. And that is the ONE thing Zander will ever thank that nasty girl for, EVER. THE ONLY ONE.
"I'm a marshmallow roasting professional because at home we have bonfires all the time. So if you need any help maybe I could be YOUR professor this time," HA HA? He was trying to be funny. Ha. The third year let out an uncomfortable laugh. You know, the kind you save for when-you-try-to-joke-around-with-your-professors-but-aren't-sure-if-they'll-react-the-same-way-so-it's-kind-of-awkward laugh?

Zahra heard his little jibe. HOW HUFFLEPUFF WAS THAT? "I HOPE YOU CHOKE ON THE FLAMING MARSHMALLOW I SHOVE DOWN YOUR THROAT," was Zahra's *GRYFFINDOR* reply.
In fact, where WERE the marshmallows? Zahra needed one. Stat.

Electing to float through one of the walls rather then the centre of the floor, Sir Nicholas announced his arrival with a spirited, "Good evening Gryffindors!"
He told them he would be seeing them soon and he was a ghost of his word.
"Can anyone tell me where I may find your Head of House?" he inquired of those students closest to him. Difficult to spot the lovely blonde woman with everyone crowding together in such merriment.

She really was making a meal of this toasting... roasting.. whatever this was, thing. Frowning into the fire, Seren was taken aback by a voice at her side. "Hi!" she replied brightly, eyes on the boy and not on her mallow or the fire... perhaps a mistake on her part.
"Is it that obvious?" she asked, because this very clearly was her first time. She'd never thought to do it before... it seemed odd. And why was he laughing? Was she failing that badly? "But sure, I'd love your professional guidance." He was welcome to teach her a thing or two, she still had a lot to learn in this life.
"So... I take it, it's not supposed to catch fire?" she asked, looking back to the flames, and the one at the end of her stick.

No one? Pity. Seemed Gryffindor chivalry was not what it once ways.
Taking it upon himself to float amongst the living, Sir Nicholas spotted the woman soon enough and his ghostly features curved into a smile.
"Ah yes, there you are Professor Bentley. I have a rather urgent matter I wish to discuss with you regarding your lions here. One in particular, actually."

She was still lost with the whole schmoes thing or whatever this was, so when she heard the voice of Sir Nicholas address her, she was only too happy to surrender her stick thing... and the burnt crisp on the end of it.
"Sir Nicholas," she grinned broadly at the House Ghost. "Urgent you say?... Are we missing someone? Did they break something? Set something on fire?"... what happened?
Even in spite of his smile she could only think of bad things that could possibly be urgent.

"Not that I am aware of," he assured the woman. Even if he had noticed something of that sort he most likely would not report it anyway. Unless it was a lost Gryffindor or a dying Gryffindor. Then there would be need to sound the alarm.
"No no no, nothing of that sort. I observed something rather auspicious at this evening's feast from one of your Gryffindors. I am afraid I terrified the meal right out of a Miss Bree Veras at the feast and, sadly, the majority of her housemates ignored her plight save for one." The ghost paused his story to look about the common room and pointed a transparent finger towards the Gryffindor being discussed. "Mr. Kildare showed true Gryffindor chivalry and not only cleaned up the mess but made Miss Vera feel welcomed and comfortable."

Nothing like that, well that was a relief and a half. "Goog good," she replied, a smiling lighting up her features again. She couldn't fathom what it was he needed to tell her about, but as she listened that soon became apparent. Or at least, it did in the end.
HHer brows had been raised in mild confusion at the mention of scaring the meal out of Bree, and she was sorely disappointed to hear that nobody came to her aid. It wasn't until Sir Nicholas pointed over to Tag that she allowed herself to hope again, and her fading smile grew at the explanation that followed. "Oh... that's.... that's lovely, very commendable," she nod her head in agreement. "I'll see to it that Mr. Kildare is rewarded for his efforts." The boy deserved it.
