Besides one of the arena doors being open for easy access, the arena was locked up tight to keep the winter chill out. That didn't stop the window panels from looking icy however. Lit iron braziers were suspended in midair in each corner of the room to warm it up, but an extra cloak or two couldn't hurt either. Purple mats and the small desks that could pass off as stools were laid evenly in three rows in the middle of the arena. Professor Romanos was currently absent from the room yet her own burgundy mat sat at the front of the class. Please, come in! Take a seat. Try to keep warm.

First off, what the heck is a Dobro Out ro? Second off, if Professors can be late, could they make that like a universal rule? That no one has to be on time... Or show up at all... Because this zombie talk was really starting to get old, you know?
Zander took a copy of the article as Romanos went around and passed them out. Woah. That's a lot of reading. So instead of trying to answer the question, he just looked down and began to read. First a skim and then an actual read through. Because after the first time he realized that he totally didn't actually take any of it in. Whoops.

You would think the stereotype would change after all this time. It was never the claws asking questions before there were even questions asked. It seemed like it was mostly the Hufflepuffs. Hard workers and all that. Whatever, it made no difference to Nigel.
See, now there was a question and a review one at that. But back to her previous points. Whether it be the Quibbler or the Daily Prophet. Nigel was still skeptical of that picture. People were People after all. He was a realist and that sucked.
"Well......they are called The Cold Ones or Skygge and only a witch/wizard with way too much time on their hands can become one"
Someone has to state the obvious and it is so much fun.

Professor Romanos was here and in a hurry and sniffling. Ew. Beverly was about to move onto a separate mat from Jeremiah's but it was too damn cold. So she was going to stay sat next to him. Pulling the Jeremiah's robe sleeves up, she took the floating parchment. Boyfriend's cloak was warm, but a little too big on her.
Glancing down at the parchment, a brow rose on its own. Skygge. They had briefly discussed this not too long ago. A shudder ran down her back as she read the article. Those things had been spotted more than several times. The sudden strange weather came to mind. Oh, hell no. If those things got near...they weren't getting her. Or her boyfriend. And that was THAT.
Oh. This article was from 2048. Okay, then. No need to get all riled up and ready to kick butt. Heh. Glancing up from the parchment, she raised her hand. She did remember stuff.
"The Cold Ones are a result of an experiment gone wrong in the Arctic. A potion that had been worked on seeped through the ice and when magical folk were laid to rest there the potion did something to them, thus creating the first Cold Ones." Pause. That was one fact. "Also, they have shields protecting them, making them some sort of difficult to destroy."

oh wow things were starting to pick up in this class.. Professor Romanos arrived and she handed out parchment. Looking at the parchment Bay had to hold back some acid in the back of his throat.. he didn't want to talk about these things again.. thank goodness there wasn't that arm around here any more. He raised his hand "Professor, they can only be witches or wizards" he then lowered his hand and moved closer to his friends.

Mo read the article the professor provided with a furled brow and a growing sense of concern. Y'know what one of the scariest moments of his life had been so far? Being chased by zombies in Peru. And if these Skygge were able to show up in the UK... that was of concern to him.
He raised his hand. "Professor, the only way to destroy their protective shield is by striking them in the heart with a flaming iron arrow. Which sounds like pretty advanced magic, considering you have to create the arrow and light it AND aim it, all magically." Plus did iron even light on fire?

Cris wasn't surprised when Professor Romanos confirmed his suspicions. They were the one and the same. So when she asked what they knew about the Skygge, Cris raised his hand, recalling what the Professor had told them about these beings in their last lesson.
"Professor, the Skygge were once humans but then the Cold Ones touched their hearts with their cold fingers and they were no longer humans. They still looked like what they used to be but they no longer had control of their own thoughts or will. They were the cold version of the Walking Dead. The Cold Ones were actually called the Døde Sjeler."

Oh. Oh.
Gulp.
While Professor Romanos hadn’t exactly said that they could show up here, she hadn't said they couldn't either. And that worried Layla. Because if these Skygge, or other types of zombies, were as hard to kill as the Cold Ones, well....... she really didn't want to think about it.
As they were moving on to review questions, Layla didn't ask any follow up questions of her own. Because, truthfully, she was afraid of the answers. But she did start to answer the review question, until her answer was said anyway. So, instead of just repeating an answer, she listened to everyone else. And tried to keep back the bile that was threatening to come up and the tears that were threatening to fall.
Zombie apocalypses were no joke.

“The Cold Ones can freeze a being’s heart by just touching their victim.” Ethan offered his answer as he put down his hand and continued to read the article on his hands. Merlin, he totally forgot that his cousin’s going back and forth the North and South poles as a volunteer for the Russian Dragon Reserve.
Ethan scratched his head and made a mental note to warn Mordred about this. Although there was no word from him regarding this type of dangerous creature, it would be better to owl him as soon as possible.
Could it also be possible that those creatures are making their way to Hogwarts now, given the temperature? They will surely be attracted to this weather, no doubt about that.

Oh, hello Professor. The class was suddenly in full swing, and Lux had a hard time reading the article and paying attention to what the class was discussing. More talk about The Cold Ones. Just great. Lux wasn't too keen on a repeat, but at least there was no zombie arm to creep her out this time.
Raising her hand, she tried to remember something from the last lesson. "They have this protective shield which can only be broken with flaming arrows." That was actually pretty cool.
Smiling at Adi, Leah said, "I'm fine, just a tiny bit cold." and laughed. "You?" she asked back but the professor had entered with a... 'Dobro outro' whatever that might be, hmm. The Badger took a piece of parchment that floated down to her. She looked at it and caught a familiar word 'Skygge'. She looked at the weird photograph, cool illustration, and skimmed the article once.
Cold ones... One fact came to her mind. Raising her hand, Leah said, "Their place of origin is Antarctica."

The Professor arrived rather promptly with a huge stack of papers in her hands. Huh! What were those? wondered Simon and he found out the answer to that question rather quickly as Romanos passed them out. He eyed the article, finding the word Skygee several times. Were the Skygee like the Cold Ones? He assumed so, seeing that both were from the same place. Before he could read any further, the Professor had asked a question.
Does anyone remember a fact or two about the Cold Ones or Skygge from the previous lesson and homevork?
Ah so the Cold Ones were like the Skygge... Okay, interesting. He nodded absentmindedly, then bit his lip as he flipped through his notebook, searching for something from the last lesson that they had on the Cold Ones. When he found a fact, he raised his hand, "Witches and wizards can only become Cold Ones."
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Any fact? Let's see. He did remember one about the Skygge. Adi raise his hand. "Skygge means shadow in Norwegian,'' he said. Well at least that's the meaning came to his head when he thought. If he was incorrect, Professor Romanos could correct him. Or one of his classmates.
Adi glanced down back at the parchment in his hand. Skygge defense guide? That would be something cool to read if someone had written it. He vaguely wondered if the intense cold this winter had anything to do with the Cold Ones or Skygge.
Michael read through the article with mild interest. He didn't know whether to believe the story or not though. It just seemed so...
His brought his attention back to the Professor when she asked the question and he had a quiet little chuckle to himself. It was a bit hard to answer since he hadn't done the homework so he lent back on his hands instead and listened to his fellow students responses.

Maddie hadn't got a verbal invitation to share Kyroh's blanket yoga mat but she didn't think she needed one and so she scooted closer to him, trying to get warm. Her little body was shivering quite a bit by this point and hopefully Freckles' little invention would help them all. Dima was cold TOO, right? Could they get hot chocolate after this? That sounded great right now.
This article they had been given? Well Maddie wasn't sure the Quibbler was the BEST source of information but she was uncomfortable with it all the same. She'd never ever thought about SEEING a cold one until recently and having a picture for reference, one that was real and showed the cold ones as almost normal-looking, well that was kind of eerie. Scary things hiding in plain sight. "Does that mean you wouldn't be able to recognize a cold one until it was too late? If they look pretty much like other people from a distance, I mean?" Because she wanted to know everything there was to know given the extreme cold that had hit Hogwarts and the concerned looks of those around her. Should she be more worried than she was? Was Professor Romanos worried? Were DIMA and KYROH worried? She glanced at each of them, a nervous expression on her own face.
As for the question about what she remembered, most of the information had already been shared. She DID add, "The Blasting Curse or the Reductor Curse are useful against them, Prrofessor." Though she WASN'T an expert at either yet and that worried her. She'd need to log some more hours in the dueling arena, it seemed.
Another questions, Emmylou totally had this one or at least she thought she did. Well Emmylou had remembered being with her grandmother, who's a huge fan of Norse mythology and the gods of Norse, really anything that had to do with them. But Emmylou wasn't sure if that's the kind of answer that Professor Romanos would want. Emmylou shrugged and thought some more about it. She had heard about Skygge some time in her first year while she was still at Beauxbatons she just had to think about it really hard. Emmylou thought she had thought of something! It's better to answer questions than not answering any at all and not doing something in class.
Emmylou raised her hand. She wasn't to sure about her answer but she was going to give it a good shot. "My grandmother would talk about Skygge in the Old Norse, which was Skygjja. It means to block a source of illumination, to produce a shadow which Skygge in Norwegian means a shadow. They were also witches and wizards at one point in time." Emmylou thought she was getting somewhere. So she thought some more. "The Skygge are from Antarctica. You need one of those iron arrows with flames to kill them." Emmylou couldn't think of what else to say or even to think of so she just stopped talking. She needed more time to think on this one.

Oh there she was. Lex twisted a bit and watched the Professor as she walked in talking about an article? What? Before she could raise a hand to question that she found piece of parchment making its way toward her. Helloooooo there. Lex snatched it mid-air and began skimming the words while the others asked whatever questions they had. Hey, this was an article on the Cold Ones! Of course they existed, was anyone doubting this before? Lex squinted at the article as she continued on. Antarctica, yup, the continent that didn't actually have people living on it.
Alexa lowered the paper at the question the Professor asked. What could they remember. GOOD QUESTION. Lex had been taking notes last class, religiously too but most of what she'd taken down had already been said. Extra thinking while it was this cold should have been illegal.
Her hand rose slowly. "The Cold Ones are nature's lesson to humanity to not stick your nose where evolution didn't place you." She'd never get over. What was anyone doing down in Antarctica in the first place for experiments to go wrong and seep into the bloody ice?? What were people doing in the flipping ice to get contaminated by whatever seeped into said ice?
Sometimes mankind needed to know how to take a hint.

Jasmine read the article from the Quibbler that Professor Romanos had distributed. She was already cold, but the article made her shiver even more. Thinking about the Skygge and Cold Ones was not something she particularly wanted to do.
Hearing the Professor's question, Jasmine raised her hand to respond. "Defeating the Cold Ones is a two step process. As others have said, a flaming arrow will break heir protective shield. That must be followed up with the Reductor curse which will lay them to rest." Jasmine really hoped that this topic was not related to the bitterly cold winter they had been experiencing.

Sophie eyes grew bigger and bigger as she skimmed through the articles. Wait a second--so the professor wasn't just kidding? This wasn't just folklore?! She glanced up from the article with a panicked look on her face. Those things were going to stay in Antarctica, weren't they?
Sheesh. She didn't feel like remembering anything about them. She wanted to forget them. O_O
But anyway... "You mean other than the fact that they're really creepy?" she asked, raising her hand. "Also, they have the ability to summon their fellow Cold Ones for help when they think they can't do something alone."
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
The Professor had been late. That was, pretty unsual right? Kevin wondered what had happened. Not that he was concerned just curious. He shifted in his stool until he sat better and grabbed the parchment that floated towards him out of the air.
Opening the article, Kevin skimmed through it. Not really reading it word for word but rather focused on the main points like Skygge and that they were sighted also the picture on the bottom caught his attention.
Did that mean that these cold days were because of ...those things? or no?
"They did an failed experiment in the whatever century, 17th? 18th? to re-create the resurrection stone right?" he asked as he tried to remember. At least that was what he had written in his homework. "The witches and wizards who laid rest on the ice would become a Cold One cause it had leaked in the ice or something"

It was UNCLEAR as to whether the Cold Ones could come to Hogwarts. Or whether they were hear already. Freaking MERLIN. This was a good AND bad thing and the boy couldn't decide which one it was. So, instead, he looked down at the article again and skimmed through it again. Weird. Freaking weird.
And he was going to keep this, mkay? Yeah? GOOD. This was useful information, this was.
What did he know about the Skygge or the Cold Ones? A lot. No really, he DID know a lot. It wasn't THAT surprising that he actually paid attention in class. A zombie filled one so maybe it wasn't THAT surprising. And he'd actually put a lot of effort into the homework, too. For once.
Soooooo, once he had formed an answer in his head, Grayson raised his hand in the air. "You want to avoid a Cold One's hands at all costs because if they touch you with those buggers, you could become a Skygge." Like Ethan had said with the heart freezing. Uh huh.

Tag took the article and read it through and then looked back up at Romanos who was now asking a question.
Any facts about... the Cold Ones and this Skygge thing? Nope. Tag couldn't answer that at all because he hadn't been here the last class, which means, nor did he bother to do the homework. So, yeah, this blonde over here didn't know much about either of those two things, besides what little information he'd just gotten from the article.
Oh my, questions already and she hadn't even sat down yet.
Achy muscles. Must sit down. "That...is unclear." she spoke, acknowledging Layla's question first as she made herself somewhat comfortable on her burgundy mat. Oh, brr. Cold. "Though I do know there are a variety of creatures that are attracted to cold temperatures, both magical and mundane."
Would they have four legged visitors here at hogwarts? Or perhaps...eight legged?
"You are correct, Mister Strand. These are indeed the ones I've mentioned in our previous lesson." Nodding towards the Hufflepuff, she finally took quick notice to see just who else had joined their lesson. Quite a lot, considering the chilliness. Gold stars for everyone. "The article you all should haff in hand is from an issue of the Quibbler from quite a long vhile ago, in 2048. Though it's the photograph that i found most fascinating. Not the illustration at the bottom, but the actual image in the middle of the page. Even from the distance, you can see they aren't at all rotting nor disfigured as you'd normally see in the zombies you imagine."
"Does anyone remember a fact or two about the Cold Ones or Skygge from the previous lesson and homevork?"
Sophie had come prepared and was wearing more layers than usual under her robes. Seated near Mo, of course, she was trying to resist the urge to scoot her mat over and cuddle up to the older boy for further warmth.
A good distraction from the low temperature of the room was the article Romanos gave to each of them, and Sophie got distracted reading the page through a few times, tuning out whatever the professor was saying to the kids who were quick to ask questions. She did catch that it was from 2048 right away, though, and she relaxed a little, still all too curious - the coincidences surrounding Romanos' topics this term and the extremely bitter winter seemed all too... fishy. Did the professor think they were being threatened right now? Was she teaching them about these because it was something they needed to worry about?
Worry Sophie did, and her expression showed it a little before she flipped the page of the Quibbler over and set it on the floor next to her. No. She didn't want to see it anymore. It was way cool and all to think about as a myth or just a story - but at the possibility of it being a threat to them, that's when it became far less cool. And she didn't even have anything to add to what everyone else was saying because she was hardly processing it, but from what she gathered, they were covering all the basics just fine. Yeah. But she was listening now.
Oh my, questions already and she hadn't even sat down yet.

Most of what Cutty could remember was already stated. They had so many monikers. He did enjoy that aspect of learning defense. Professor Romanos's talented tongue.

Penelope read the article that Professor Romanos had passed out. Were they going to be attacked by cold ones? Did this have anything to do with the unusually cold weather? Penelope thought about when she had been covered in snow, sure that she would freeze to death. If she had died, would she have become a cold one? Even though she was wearing warm clothes, Penelope still felt cold. Why was it so cold? Maybe there really were cold ones around Hogwarts. Cold ones had been part of the last lesson, and it looked like this lesson would also be about cold ones. Connections between cold weather and lessons about cold ones could not be ignored.
What did she know about cold ones? Raising her hand, Penelope said, "Stuff from a failed attempt to create a resurrection stone in the 17th century leaked into the ice. Witches and wizards who died in the contaminated ice turned in to cold ones." Nothing new to add to the discussion.
