CoMC #1: Get out of the Garden You are making your way to the Barnyard looking for the familiar signs to direct you on where to go. There are no signs needed as once you arrive you look around the back of the Barnyard to see Professor Thompson in front of a fenced in garden. Beyond the garden you can see the tall grass surrounding it and trees at this distance. Occasionally in the garden you see what looks like running potatoes-heads at first glance every now and then. Feel free to get comfy while you still can. --- OOC: Just joining in? Don't post your character arriving in, simply continue from the latest post as if they were there all along. Where are we at? Post 1 - Greetings + What do you know about Gnomes? Post 2 - Facts on Gnomes + What are we doing today? Post 3 - Step inside, there's De-gnoming to be done. Post 4 - Finished already? Collect your reward before you go. |
Gwen was the first one there. That never happened. She so easily lost track of time that to be early was an accomplishment. The signs had led her to a garden where little potatoes were running through the tall grasses. "Hello Professor Thompson," Gwen greeted him. She wanted to ask what they were doing today, and what the little creatures were. Surely they weren't just animated potatoes. This was care of magical creatures, not care of charmed vegetables. But she figured that she would wait a few minutes for the rest of the class to arrive, and all would be explained then. |
Er- Kyroh was lost. Class was suppose to be outside yeah? Trekking along outside the first year looked around a bit. He had to be going the right way because....well...where else would he go? As he reached the barnyard Kyroh stopped, looked around and started off toward the back of it. THEEERE he was! "Hi Professor, Sir!" The first year greeted grinning. Nope. He did not know your name Professor, and he was not about to have another mistake like when called Culloden Cupboardbin, so you would just be SIR. Taking a seat on the grass he tried to peak over to see what exactly was behind the fence. |
Sophie wasn't particularly wild about magical creatures, but she was taking the class this term anyway out of obligation. She felt obligated to take the class of the professor who let her swim in his swimming pool. What kind of rotten kid would she be if she took advantage of his lavish home and didn't even sign up for his class now that she was old enough? This Ravenclaw definitely wanted to be welcomed back next summer, so there she was in a long-sleeved shirt and pants with dragon-hide gloves shoved in her bag, approaching the Barnyard... only to see no one there. Hm. Well. She meandered around the back of it out of curiosity and was relieved to see the professor there. Good. She beamed upon seeing him, recalling the fun she and Toby had with him over the summer, and chimed, "Nice to see you again, professor. Glad to finally be taking your class." She wasn't really glad about the subject, but she WAS pretty psyched to have Thompson as a teacher. And at least it would be an easy O on her OWLs, she figured. |
Cris made his way down to the Barnyard for his very first Care of Magical Creatures lesson. As he walked around the barnyard, he noticed Professor Thompson waiting in front of the fenced garden for everyone to arrive. Glad that he had not gotten his directions mixed up, Cris walked over to the Professor and greeted him with a smile. "Hello Professor Thompson. Isn't it a great day to be outdoors?" Cris asked the Professor but even before the Professor could reply, he noticed movement from the corner of his eye. Glancing over into the garden, he noticed what looked like potato heads running around. It took him only two seconds for him to realize what he was seeing. Garden gnomes. He was familiar with them, having helped degnome his mother's vegetable garden on many occasions. "Are those Garden Gnomes, Professor? Will we be working with them today?" Cris turned to ask the Professor. |
UGH. Why was it that walking to this class always made Zander so tired? It's not like it was even that far from the castle?? But it always seemed to take his very last breath. So as he passed by his professor he gave a worn out wave and a tired smile. "Hi. BREATHE. Professor. BREATHE How are you?" BREATHE. He lingered around long enough for a response and then walked towards the other early arrivals. Noticing that one boy was already sitting on the grassy area, Zander decided to join in. Thankfully he was a little early and would have plenty of time to catch his breath. |
Guess who was early for his favorite subject? The boy who practically dragged himself out of bed to get here. No way was he missing CoMC for anything. Even if it meant losing a bit more sleep because Jun was just being completely lazy today. Walking onto the barnyard, there were no signs.. Weird. Jun kept walking and noticed the professor standing in front of a gate. And behind that was tall grass and trees. What was this? Another thing like in his defense against the dark arts OWL? Which he still was traumatized over. "Hello professor," he greeted Thompson and waited for class to start. But Jun could not stop staring at the grass and trees. Still weird. |
Ascanius was HYPER FOCUSED because of reasons. But just because he was in the mood to do a million things and had energy for days didn't mean he was interested in going to class. He was in a rare mood of being productive. Which meant he could be writing music, practicing, looking in his mirror. Literally everything else sounded better then class. Least it was outside, yeah? He joined the few of his peers who were already there and remained silent. Class had started, which meant Ascanius probably wouldn't say another word until class was dismissed. Not even the Professor got acknowledged. |
Dylan made his way to the barnyard and noticed the professor standing there, waiting for everyone. Well, he had thought he would get lost trying to find the place but turned out it was quite easy, thankfully. "Morning Professor!" he said with a cheerful smile and wave as he passed him by. He then stood there, playing with the ends of his Hufflepuff scarf as he waited for the lesson to begin. Hehehe. Fun. |
This was the lesson she's been looking forward to. Other than potions and charms, this was her next best subject. Spotting the professor, Beverly shot him a shy wave of her hand. "Good day, Professor Thompson," accompanied by timid grin. Now, what was that behind him? Rising on her toes, Beverly's curious gaze roamed the garden. Did he have an infestation? Did he need help? She just had the best meal, so she was full of energy and ready to go. |
Was he late? Because Hogwarts’ so huge compared to his old school, the panting sound that Ethan made was quite obvious since he ran all the way from the other side to the Barn Yard. Maybe next time he should use his skateboard to get to CoMC class. Oh and also, he had to go back to his dorm to change since it was in the noticeboard that he needed to be in a long-sleeved shirt. Heh. If only someone would teach him to properly transfigure his clothing. He didn’t want to end up wearing a teeny-tiny shirt now, yeah? Getting embarrassed during his first few days in school wasn’t exactly his idea, so the safest route was to take a second trip back to his dorm, change and get back to the back of the Barnyard. Anyway, Ethan looked ahead as soon as he realized that he was actually early for class. Hu-zah. He joined the others and greeted the man, who is their professor. “Good day, sir.” Smiles for you adult person, because today is going to be a great day |
*waves to Cris and Dylan* Care of Magical Creatures was always a fun class, because it involved awesome animals and activities. So of course Lux was rather excited as she made her way over to where the lesson was being held. Glancing around her, she knew right away what this lesson was about. This could be interesting, she supposed. "Hello, Professor Thompson. How are you today?" After sending him a smile, she noticed both Cris and Dylan were there as well. "Hey, guys!" Now where was Bay? Lux hoped that her boyfriend would arrive soon. |
Jasmine was looking forward to her first Care of Magical Creatures class at Hogwarts. She was curious to see what animals they would be working with and how this class differed from the one at her old school. Arriving at the barnyard Jasmine saw the professor and went over to greet him. "Hello Professor Thompson. My name is Jasmine Guidry. I just transferred here from Beauxbatons and I'm excited to be in your class." Moving on, Jasmine noticed that both Cris and Lux had already arrived. Walking over to them, she cheerfully said, "Hello there". Glad to have found her friends, Jasmine waited for class to begin. |
Kate was a bit bewildered when she came to this class. Magical creatures… like what? Surely there couldn't be a whole lot of magical creatures for them to study. Muggles would've noticed, right? But still, she was curious. Hopefully magical creatures didn't just mean cats. She would leave if it meant cats. She glanced around at the other students and noticed a couple of students were sitting down, Kate walked over and sat next to them. Well, it's better than sitting in desks. Maybe they'd get to do something fun. Kate smiled to herself and propped her elbows up on her knees while she waited for class to start. |
Sees Lux and Jasmine Cris was glad when more students began showing up. He waved hello to Lux,"Hey Lux, where's Bay," he whispered to her when she got closer even as he looked around for his Gryffindor friend. Then he saw Jasmine and all thoughts of where Bay was were temporarily overshadowed. "Hi Jasmine," he whispered when she came over to stand next to him. The day was definitely starting out well, he thought to himself as he smiled at Jasmine. |
Josie made her way around the back of the Barnyard when she had seen Professor Thompson, so it had sort of made sense to the twelve year old; to the head to back of the Barnyard. Also because everyone else had been doing so, so it only made more sense to follow everyone else's lead. Right? Right. As she neared the Professor, she gave a polite wave which was followed by a shaky, "G-Good m-morning Professor.." The brunette cleared her throat before giving another small smile, then hastily turned on her heels to go and find a seat of some sort as she waited for the lesson to begin. ...Actually, didn't look like there were any seats at all to sit upon.. Come to think of it, it was quite alright, Josie didn't mind standing. Especially since she wasn't an old decaying old person like last term. NOT. FUN. So simply standing |
Brrrrrr, it was chilly. Theo didn't like it, hence having a face like a kicked kitten. But he was here at least, so the professor should be glad about that. With his arms folded tightly across his chest, Theo made his way to where the professor was stood and had a little peek at what was over the fence. Grass and trees. Yay. "Morning, sir." |
Angel walked into the classroom, she was wanting to see what magical creatures there were, being a non-magical kid she had never seen them before and surely if there were loads they would have seen them, like dinosaurs she knew they were extinct but were tall and amazing when they roamed the earth. "Hi Professor." Angel smiled, now if only her sister Aubrey was here they could confused the poor Professor. And now she came to think about it she hadn't seen her sister Abby for ages, she would have to catch up with her later. |
Olly was here too. The professor got a nod in greeting. After a quick glance around Olly had to realize that no one interesting was there yet. Maybe Ascanius. But he wasn't interesting enough for her to walk over to where he was standing. Instead, she just remained standing where she was. He got a nod too, though. Grass. Huh. It didn't look like there was anything else there. |
Walking excitedly towards the yarn Nick was so happy there was a jump in his walking. He just wanted to get started with something. As he entered the fenced area he saw the professor standing. It was Nick's ever first class for the year and he was really happy to be here. He looked around the garden taking in the tall grasses and the trees and the smell of dump mud. Everything was so amazing. As he was looking at the beautiful trees and the scenery his eyes wide open at what he just saw. Rubbing he eyes he looked again and there was nothing, but he knew there definitely was something. Then there was another hop from something looking like a potato or what he thought looked like a potato. He knew then maybe that is something they were going to learn about in today’s class. Trying to get his attention in class he glanced at the professor and greeting him “Hello Professor. I’m the new Gryffindor. Nick Tatum” then he realized why would he say something like I’m new wasn’t that obvious? |
His school bag hung over his shoulders as he made his way to the first Creatures lesson of the term. He followed the signs and as he arrived at his destination he looked around to see who else was here as well. Mweh, no one that he knew. Oh wait, the only person he did 'know' was Bart and he had left him! He pretended like he didn't see the Professor and ignored him. Instead, his gaze was towards the tall grass as he had just seen something pop up from it. What had that been? |
SPOILER!!: Angel Leah was excited. No one was visible at the barnyard, meaning that she was the first to arrive at class, yeah! She ran down towards the spot, ready to congratulate herself on her victory(?) when she heard voices coming from the back. Meh, she was not first after all. A bit disappointed, the second year walked to the back of the barnyard and greeted, "Hello professor." and made sure that he noticed the long-sleeve tops she was wearing, along with her leggings. She really paid attention to the notice. Then Leah bounced to her honorary sister Angel and stopped right in front of her. "Hi hi, Angel. How're ya doing?" |
Cris and Lux Jasmine's smile got brighter when she saw Cris. For some reason, he just seemed to have that effect on her. Careful to keep her voice down, Jasmine addressed Cris and Lux. "Any idea what we might be doing today? I'm ready to get started." Jasmine scanned the area looking for Bay. In the world of Baylux it was rare for her to see one without the other. |
Nigel was humming some songs to to him were guilty pleasures. He did not really care at this point. Might as well have some fun before he makes his way to class. But no dancing. That was saved for the common room and dorm room. Maybe the prefect's bathroom. But that was it. Ah, there was Professor Facial Hair 2.0. He would not come up with anything better. So..yeah. Even taking his time getting here. It was pretty easy to see something move through the grass. Potato.....Please not garden gnomes. Other than chucking them out of orbit. They were not fun. "Hey. Professor Thompson. Visit any good joke shops recently?" |
Awesome. Donny skipped down to class while humming to himself. Could you tell he was excited?? Outside classes were the best. Would they be gardening? Because that didn't sound exciting, not at all. The things looked like potatoes, but Donny doubted that's what they would taste like. He hadn't ever seen potatoes run around either. Donny shrugged, maybe it wouldn't be gardening-related after all. Oh, right. Professor. Donnacha skipped over and beamed up at the man. "Hiya, professor.......!" What was his name again? Professor Professor would do for now. |
His favourite class of all time! Adi happily made his way towards the Barnyard. He could hardly wait for the class to get started. Arriving at the barnyard, he made his way towards the back where he could see some of the students had gathered. Going towards the garden, Adi grinned brightly. "Hello, Professor! Hope all's well with you.'' He went off to stand by himself, waving to his friends as he passed them. |
Cris, Zander, Jasmine and Lux Bay made his way down to his next class which was Care of Magical Creatures, it was one of his favourite classes because it was outside. Nothing wrong with wanting to soak up some ray's. The only time it wasn't as much fun was when it was raining… the snow he didn't mind. Spotting the professor he said his hello's "Hi Professor Thompson" he smiled at the man and now it was time to go find some friends to hang with until the lesson started. Looking around he saw Cris, Jasmine and Lux near each other and not to far away he spotted his new friend Zander! walking up to the group and putting his arm around Zander to bring him with he smiled "Hey Z come meet some of my mates" he laughed as he made it to the group of people. "hey Cris and Jasmie" he smiled at them but he let go of Zander's shoulders and bowed to Lux "m'lady" he winked at her. So far this class was going great. |
Well...classes were officially underway, now weren't they? Sophie had enjoyed that calmness in the beginning of the year when everything was just starting up. There were no assignments or homework due, and she had more than enough free time on her hands. Now, though? Now the classes seemed to be in full swing. Care of Magical Creatures was starting, which meant Sophie was headed out to the grounds for this next class. Looking around, she spotted the professor behind the barnyard and walked over. "Hello, Professor Thompson," she said. Sooo nothing to do now but just wait for class to start. |
Norah skipped through the garden until she saw a group of students clustered in one spot. Aha! This must be the class. She hummed to herself as she approached it, standing on her tiptoes to see what they were surrounding, but the two inches of height she gained through this did nothing against the height of the older students. She ducked under someone's arm and saw a professor sitting there. She had no idea what his name was, but she flounced up to him and waved. "Hello, professor! She grinned. "I'm Norah. Norah Kittredge." She beamed at him once more and turned to look at the other students, disappointed by the lack of familiar faces. She couldn't wait for this class to start! She took a deep breath of the crisp air and turned her face up to the sun. Ahh, it was nice to be outside. |
Marigold happily skipped in to an OUTDOORS class. More classes should be OUTDOORS, yep. She had the start of a cold coming on, so her breathing sounded a bit sniffly, but she was smiling as the cold air hit her face. "Hi, professor!" she said, beaming. Looking around, she went to go sit towards the front. It was creatures, come on, who didn't want to be in front with creatures? |
She was excite for this class. Something she only felt before only two subjects. Not that she loathed the other ones, since no more herbology, but it was that she knew she was going to be talking about and learning about something she liked. Creatures! And Professor Thompson was a nice man who knew how to keep his students interested and keep them from dozing off. Packing the textbooks and notebooks she needed for the classes, Cassia set off towards the grounds. She enjoyed the walk there, since it wasn't cold yet. Feeling energetic like she did, she found herself by the Barnyarn in no time. She wasn't among the first ones to come but it seemed that she wasn't the last either. Good. "Good day, Professor Thompson," she smiled at the handsome professor before looking around to find a place to sit. |
SOMEONE was excited to be here. As in that girl in front of Schuyler who was literally skipping her way along to the back of the barn. While beaming. The Gryffindor was pleased to be here as well, just wasn't quite so enthusiastic, so she continued her way by walking. She rounded the side of the barn. "Hi, Professor," was her short greeting as she passed. And Schuyler didn't stop until she got to Olly and planted a kiss hello on her cheek. Hello. |
Mack quickly hurried along the path to go to the barn yard.. She didn't want to be late for class.. Upon arriving she saw a good number of people already sitting along the area she assumed was the classroom today. The blonde slowly paced the back of the fenced area to decide where to sit, she had briefly spoken to one if the boys already here during the feast but to be honest she didn't remember his name. Finally she decided on a spot close to the front on the right hand side. As she sat on her knees she smiled, "Good Morning Professor" |
Contrary to popular belief, Adrienne did actually have the ability to enjoy things, and one of those things was Care of Magical Creatures. It was one of her favourite classes, not only because it was outside, but because she was fascinated by how all of these weird-looking magical beasts worked and thought and their powers. Also, everything that they did had practical application, from knowing where it is your wand came from to how to avoid being eaten by a dragon in case you stumbled upon one. "Bonjour, Professor," she said cheerily as she chose a nice place in the grass to sit down, taking off her cloak to place underneath herself just in case it was wet and taking out her book to hopefully read a few pages before class began. |
Woohoo! First class of the term with Professor |
Considering she wasn't late and all there wasn't really any rush in getting to this class. Nah. Not like it was Defense Against the Dark Arts or Astronomy. This gave her a kind of leisurely pace as she followed the others. Even without the signs she reckoned they'd know where they were going (they couldn't all be wrong, yeah?). And there was the Professor, proof they had brains somewhere. Lex stopped by Cassia, giving Jun a smile, then looked curiously at the fenced garden with funny little things running around. Was she meant to know what they were? The girl didn't make a habit of studying creatures that weren't of the dark variety. Sue. her. "G'morning Professor. Are we having a joint class with Herbology this lesson?" She asked, taking a glance around for her Head of House. They'd done a couple last term and were now standing before a garden with tall grass and trees. What else was she meant to think? |
LOL he had gotten lost. Really. He had. The boy knew that he was meant to be at a Care of Magical Creatures lesson and that it was meant to be somewhere around these parts but where exactly the lesson was taking place, he didn't know. He had even meandered somewhere near the Herbology greenhouses before deciding to head back to the Great Hall and follow someone who was heading out. This level of blind trust was dangerous; he couldn't just trust anyone, you know? All hope had been lost -- and he'd even thought about bunking the class-- until a saviour came in the form of the Head Girl and the fourteen year old had decided to oh-so-casually follow her. This wasn't creepy, mkay? He was lost. He needed someone he could sort of trust. Besides, she wouldn't lead him astray, would she? The girl seemed nice enough from their brief encounter at the feast. Oh look! She hadn't. There was an older man there, someone whom she had said to be the Professor? Oh jeez, did he have to introduce himself? Tell the class his name and age and what he liked to do on a bright summer's day? Please say no. Those things were boring and tedious and nobody cared. "Hello Professor," he said, coming to a stop and giving the man a nod. There. That was all. |
Lucy walked through the garden when she saw a professor and the other students.. She said:"Goodmorning, professor Thompson, I'm Lucy Petersfield, a first year.." Then she went to find a place to sit down.. |
Cris, Jasmine, Bay, and Zander It was so nice to be outside in nice weather like this. Lux really did love this class; it was one of her favourites. Smiling at Jasmine, she said,"I think we are working with garden gnomes." But she was not totally sure. Now she turned her attention to Cris. "I don't know where he is, I assume he will be here soon." And then out of nowhere, he did appear. That made her laugh. Curtsying after he bowed to her she said, "Sir Bay," then winked back at him. That was when she noticed that Bay had brought a boy over. "Hello, I'm Lux!" She had seen this boy in Potions class, but had never spoken to him before. Looking between her friends and boyfriend, she smiled. "You all as excited as I am?" She loved going to classes. |
Before walking into the class Emmylou had to make sure that she had everything she needed for her next class. She took her backpack off of her right shoulder and looked inside of it. Everything was there. Good. Good. Now for one of the best classes ever.At least Emmylou hoped it was. It was about animals but not just any animals. Magical creatures which were better than most muggle animals except pandas. Pandas were the best animal ever, magical or muggle. Emmylou followed the signs to a barnyard and then she saw a man that had to be the professor. Emmylou gave the man a wave and a shy. "Hello." |
Kace finally made it COMC. He actually liked this class. He thought the professor was pretty chill. He was even good looking to his standards. Not that he would say that aloud or anything. As he made his way to the classroom, he noticed other students made it to the class. He even managed to find his girlfriend in the mix. He snuck up behind her and hugged her, then sat down next to her. Then he saw the professor was there, he nodded towards him and said, "Good morning Professor." He had to be polite ya know? |
COMC. A way better class than potions and even Astronomy. At least in Benny's opinion. He made his way across the grounds to the barn, following trail of others to the fenced in garden. What would they find there? The movement's cause mostly concealed by the foliage."Good morning Professor," he greeted the man before making note of his fellow students already there. Adi was a given since it was his beastie's fav class. Among the others he spotted Angel as well. "Hi," Ben greeted as he moved passed her a little, settling in a spot halfway between her and the Hufflepuff. "Hey," he added to Adi with a nod. |
As Caleb made his way down to Care of Magical Creatures, his attention was immediately drawn to the area behind the professor. He knew that whatever he had in store for them, it'd be in there...and sure enough, he spotted some tiny little potato looking things running around. Oh great. He knew what THOSE were. He'd had to help his dad get rid of them in their own garden once. It hadn't been TOOOO bad, and it'd only taken them about an hour to get them all clear of the plants, but he'd gotten bit and he was NOT happy about the prospect of that possibly happening again. |
Right. Derry needed to get an O in this subject, right? So... let's do this. She walked down to the grounds... to... the garden? Huh. What was going on here? Derry wandered over and took a place next to Caleb, squinting at the long grass. Wait... "Gnomes?" she asked, glancing at him. Did he know? She couldn't get a proper look, but she was willing to bet the sickles she had in her pocket that they were. Sigh. |
SPOILER!!: All of you arriving "Morning class. It's good to see you all found your way here." Javy looked at everyone to make sure their attention was fully focused. "For those of you who don't know, Welcome, I'm Professor Thompson and for the rest of you welcome back." Just to bring up from last term. "Since we have our full mobility and youth again we'll be taking advantage of it this year." Now what were they doing today? "As some of you have already figured out we will be working with the Gnomes today." Now the real intro, "Also known as Garden Gnomes because of others finding them a nuisance in their gardens. Unlike the muggle version which always remains its statue form as a decoration. Can anyone share another fact they know of the Gnomes?" --- OOC: No more arrival posts from here on, simply pretend they were already there from here on. Make sure to only post one fact if your character knows of them. =) |
Bree had not studied magical gnomes much but she did know a little bit and raised her hand and said, gnomes like to live underground in burrows known as gnomeholes.". |
Ah! There was the bestie. "Hello,'' Adi said. "You're late.'' Not really but didn't Benny usually come earlier to classes? .............. Ugh! Why was Professor Thompson bringing up the aging disaster? Adi really hated last year's events. Being old was annoying. Gnomes! Yes, the Puffer had noticed the little creatures the moment he got there. And Adi had facts! Yesh, multiple facts but unfortunately they could only share one each. He raised his hand. "They may reach a foot in height, Professor.'' |
The Professor knew his name? Oh phew. No introductions from him then. Grayson was glad about that because really, he had had nothing to say. Nothing apart from his name. This was why he wasn't going to become a teacher. Never in a million years. And it was good that he had found his way here. Or lucky, even. Thank YOU, Miss Head Girl. Gnomes. Grayson's eyes moved over to the rock-like creatures and he made a face. What? What was this? When were they going to learn about the cooler creatures? Dragons, lizards and maybe even a Centaur. Unless he was going to make this fun and not boring. Which, looking around, seemed likely. No desks! Here's hoping that there weren't going to be any boring lectures. As for the question, the boy thought about his answer for a couple of seconds before raising his hand in the air. "They're harmless!" And a little daft too. "I knew someone in my old school who used to keep them at her house. Said they didn't do much apart from digging up holes and biting you on your ankle if you weren't careful." They were daft but MAN would it be funny to see someone almost getting bitten by them. |
Those little potatoes were garden gnomes? Weren't garden gnomes like those stupid little things with the hair and the hats and flowers that people put in their gardens? Apparently some of them were really living potatoes. Did she know anything about gnomes? Nope. Gwen hadn't even known they existed until right this minute. Did they have anything in common with the vegetables they resembled? Were they dangerous? Did they simply eat the flowers and things? Her best option was just to wait until other students started answering and hopefully get a god idea of what it was from their answers. |
"They bite, sir." Derry volunteered, listening to the other answers. "And they're like... super ugly." No offense to the gnomes... but they were. Like seriously, they weren't even cute. And Derry had a hard time finding animals ugly. .. |
Cris waited for the others to share what they knew before he raised his hand. "Professor the garden gnome has to hide from the Jarvey because that creature is it's natural predator," Cris turned to look at the running potato heads. Darwin's Theory at work here for sure. |
There wasn't much to know about gnomes, was there? Other than the fact that they were ugly and a pain to deal with. Caleb raised his hand though, because he had first hand experience with this. "Well if you're not careful, they'll bite you and it HURTS," he explained. They weren't poison or anything but it still stung. |
Oh, hello girlfriend. Olly grinned at Schuyler, even though she was sliiiightly disappointed at not receiving a proper kiss. Just on her cheek. That was quite lame. But then again they WERE in class and some of the professors didn't like make-out sessions apparently. And though she wasn't sure if Thompson was one of those (huh, probably depended on his own relationship status) Olly didn't want to risk losing points over this. She could definitely think of more rewarding things to lose points over. Leaning against Schuyler's side slightly, Olly just listened. Oh, garden gnomes. That made sense yes. Without raising her hand and not really looking the professor's way, she finally said, "They're quite dumb." Yes. |
AH. Zander could finally breathe normally once again. "Thanks Professor!" There was a reason why Zander took a liking to this class. And oooh Gnomes. Zander looked around and listened to all of the facts that other students listed. OOoh they're tiny he could mention that? Oof. Nope. Someone else stole his answer. Okay what about appearance? Nope. Someone took that too. OOOOHHH, "Some people have superstitions about gnome saliva being beneficial." Hadn't he heard that once? |
Sophie was all squirmy with excitement when Cat was there. Even though she saw the Slytherin fairly often, it was always a pleasure to see her, and Sophie's beaming face let her know that. THANKS FOR BEING AROUND, CAT. Gnomes. Meh. Pests. She raised an unenthusiastic hand and offered, "They're helpful and eat things like worms," which was okay with her, "but also the roots of plants and stuff underground, which makes 'em pretty pesky to deal with." Digging up yards and all that. They were just nuisances, really, and she eyed the ones in the garden with distaste. |
Norah grinned when she heard about they'd be discussing gnomes. They used to have garden gnomes living in their back garden and they were guaranteed to drive her mum up the wall. She waved her hand enthusiastically in the air. "You can get them out of the garden by swinging them around!" She giggled. De-gnoming days were the best, and her dad let her throw some of the smaller ones even if she couldn't throw them very far. |
Yes, she had her full mobility and youth again and that made for a very happy Beverly. Thinking the question over, she raised her hand. "They look like large potatoes with legs," she said, with a wrinkle of her nose. She's seen pictures and they were honest to Merlin the ugliest things ever. Oh! This might be her chance to see a real one up front. She'd like that! Back home the gardens were de-gnomed before she could even poke one. How was she supposed to learn from experience if she didn't get to do that? Hmm? |
It would have been awesome if he had. But all it did was remind Nigel that he should go to Zonko's once Hogsmeade opens up and not trip on a skateboard. Oh right class is starting and Nigel was right it was gnomes. Thompson said it right there. They were annoying things. Good thing Nigel did not have a garden or wherever they live. He did know something about gnomes beside the obvious. But it does not have to do with gnomes specifically. Meh whatever, he will just say it. "I know that a Jarvey can be used to de-gnome a garden" He knew that because it was brutal and awesome. |
Wait... Full mobility and youth? Was that really a problem here in the past? Having transferred to the school this term, Bryant had no idea about the school's turbulent history in the past several terms. Sure, he had heard about the time thief because everyone in the wizarding world who was educated even in the slightest knew about that, but aging? He hadn't heard about that before. As for the question the professor posed, Bryant raised his hand to offer an idea. "They're one heck of a nuisance, professor, especially if you're trying to grow things." |
"Thank you, sir," Cassia beamed at the man before turning around and noticing Lex! Haai, bestie! The Gryffindor looked curious and excited, too, no? Or were those Cassia's eyes making her see people and things like that? Perhaps, but she liked it and was glad for that. Good mood days were the best ones. As well as good hair days. And they were probably tightly attached to each other. Like having one meant having the other. And because of her mood she ignored the thought of Herbology being joint with CoMC and coming from the mouth of no one but her bestfriend. Why would anyone want that? Eyes on Cambridge. Anyway, lesson started! Her attention was now on the professor with her eyes casually flickering to all the things surrounding them. Today's topic was obviously Gnomes. Easy and simply she supposed. Would probably give them a smooth set off. "Their Ministry classification's Harmless, XX," she offered. Since her classmates said most of the things. |
Kate blinked. Gnomes weren't just little garden statues? That was news to her, so she listened carefully to all the answers the other students supplied about gnomes. Biting… eating plants' roots… so they were basically magical rodents, it sounded like. Kate bit her lip nervously. Hopefully they wouldn't have to actually touch any of these gnome… things. At least she was learning! Though… if gnomes were so pesky, it was surprising that they didn't bother Muggle gardens, too. |
Professor Thompson. That was easy enough to remember. Pssh. They would be working with Gnomes!? Awesome! Kyroh wiggled in his seat as the professor spoke. What did he know about gnomes? Uh. They were not the best looking creatures that was for sure. The boy raised his hand. Course they kind of looked like walking rotten potatoes which meant that they couldn't be that dangerous. At least not like dragons. Dragons could eat gmones. Gobble gobble. " No one really likes them at all. I mean, no one ever wants them around." Poor gnomeys. They were just potatoes with legs! |
Wait. Some garden gnomes were real and weren't a statue? How did she get her hands on those? Her hand shot into the air. "Professor, I think they can be used to scare away birds." Cause birds could wreck havoc on a garden according to her mum. As far as the live ones, she had no idea. "Do the live ones only come around in gardens that have magical parents?" Because AJ was really starting to feel left of of all things magical. It wasn't her fault that her parents didn't make the cut. She wanted real live gnomes! |
Cutty thought about the last time he'd seen gnomes in his step-mother's garden. It had felt like ages between then and his first encounters with them when his mum and dad were together and they lived in a place that even had a garden. He'd forgotten how ugly they were. His hand went up as he offered this answer, "They are literally the ugliest things you will ever see in your life." |
Wait..? So they were learning about Gnomes? Interesting. He grinned when he mentioned the muggle version of Gnomes. Sometimes those were scary looking. He heard the Professor's question and wondered what he knew about Gnomes. Kace thought about it for a little bit and raised his hand. "Professor i know Gnomes live in burrows underground which is why sometimes they are hard to catch if you want to degnome your garden."He knew from past experience when he helped his Aunt with her garden. |
Hayden wasn't sure how she felt. On one hand she was excited for lessons because a lot of them would be fun, but on the other hand they were...lessons. She'd probably get homework. Hopefully that would be interesting, and hopefully she'd learn cool things about creatures. She didn't know much about them, but this class was definitely the place to change that. Hayden stood near where Leah was because she was the only person she recognized in the whole class she she was a little bit nervous. But not too much. Gnomes, huh? Hayden didn't know much about them except that they liked gardens and they were a pest. She didn't know what she could say about them that someone hadn't said already. She raised her hand tentatively. "They're short." She didn't know if that was important, or if someone had already said it, but she didn't want to not say anything. |
Lucy began to think and she remembered a book about the gnomes that her mother had read when she was a child .. She did not know if it was true all that she remembered but she said: "the gnomes build houses under the roots of trees, they are dedicated to treating the animals of the forest and they know the medicinal uses of herbs .. " |
Gnomes. Nothing as exciting as unicorns or leprechauns. But this was magical creatures, so yeah, it fit in with the topic. What did Tag know about them? Well, he never really found much interest in them so he said the first thing that came to his mind, "They're really really annoying." Simple as that, right? |
Richard usually liked Care of Magical Creatures. They got to be outside and learn about weird animals. But it appeared this lesson was going to be about garden gnomes and that was pretty boring. No unicorns or dragons? Meh! And people seemed to know loads about gnomes already, anyway! He in particular didn't really know anything about them. Except for one thing. Raising his hand, Richard cleared his throat. "The Hogwarts gnomes tried to start a war with Clifford Carden, the Falmouth Falcons Chaser, while he was studying here. He revealed that in an interview with Quidditch World so it has to be true!" That counted, yeah? |
They were learning about gnomes? Really? Nasty buggers always bit and looked like potatoes. Ugly, ugly creatures. If he wasn't excited for the lesson before this had only increased it. Jeez, why couldn't Professors just lecture or do activities that weren't insane? Was that too much to ask? Apparently at Hogwarts, yeah, it was. |
Louis liked creatures and stuff but gnomes were boring. The third year sat bored, not really paying much attention.. that was until he heard someone say his dad's name. What the... He looked up and frowned at the ginger kid who was talking. Well, that was kind of creepy. Actually, no. Not KIND of creepy.. that was BEYOND creepy. It was true though. Dad had told him the story several times and warned him to stay away from all gnomes forever. "I don't like gnomes." There was his contribution. |
Gnomes. Potato-like gnomes. He didn't have much of a garden in Ireland, so that would explain why they looked so weird. Donny listened to what the other students had to say, his gnome-knowledge was very limited. Heh, Tag. Did annoying count as a fact? Donny shrugged, he might not know a lot about them but he could still participate! He raised his hand, "I know they look funny." |
Gnomes. What did Dylan know about gnomes? Hmm. He looked down at the ground in thought. Was there much to know about them? He wasn't so sure. The third year slowly rose his hand when he had a bit of an idea. "They can be a bit of a pain, and bite pretty bad." he said. It wasn't exactly a good answer but he didn't really have anything else. |
Bay raised his hand "Professor they bite" he had to deal with these things all the time and he always got bit. Gardening during the summer in the family garden , it was hard work but the food tasted amazing. |
Awww. Lookit that little Sophie face! Cat beamed and if they weren't in a class that required their attention, she would have swept up the third year in a super hug and cuddle her tight cause she was so darn cute. Really. There was no one more cute. They should have class about Sophie. Right. Class. What were they talking about...? "They certainly look like potatoes, but I don't think they taste like them." Not that she knew for sure, but well, did anyone want to try to prove her wrong? She didn't think so. |
Gnomes, hmm? Mo didn't find them nearly as intriguing as Class XXXX or higher creatures, but he was always willing to meet a new creature and make friends. He scrubbed at his hair as his classmates shared excellent textbook answers about what they knew about gnomes. Not much else to say... except maybe theories? Theories were good. "Professor, I think they have some sort of homing signal, like pigeons and owls do. I mean, they always seem to wander back to their own hole, and that's why you have to make 'em dizzy and disorient them to get rid of them. And that usually doesn't even work!" |
Gnomes....... yeahhhhhh No he knew nothing about gnomes. In fact this was on of his least favorite classed based on the fact that he had such a small amount of knowledge in his brain of facts about Magical creatures. Unless they were dragons cause Beverly, his best friend, talked about them so much he felt like he could save them if they were a dying species. Gnomes though, he hadn't a clue...Though by the sounds of what everyone was saying he wasn't sure he wanted to know them. |
Lookit how happy Cassia was to see her, but of course she was happy to see her, bestfriend reasons and all. So good she could ignore her Herbology question too, 'least she wasn't getting dramatic about it--we all know how Cassia can get sometimes. Ahem. But in a good way. Definitely. Lex glanced over the fence again. Gnomes. They'd dealt with those back in her first year....the time she wouldn't stop stepping on them til she nearly outted one. Ah, good times though she didn't reckon she'd get away with it in Care of Magical Creatures class so she firmly pushed that thought from her mind. No hurting them, unless they bit her in which case the Professor would either have to turn a blind eye or give her detention. There was only ONE creature who's violence she tolerated and that was her baby kneazle. "If you wanna get rid of 'em, you gotta make 'em dizzy first, otherwise they'll come right back because they're persistent and can't tell when they're unwanted." Useful information right there. |
SWEET!! They were going to talk about gnomes. A creature knew quite well. Michael raised his hand in the air. "They make the best wrestling partners." Well they used to, he was too big to wrestle gnomes now but when he had been smaller it had been awesome. "The correct name for a gnome is Gernumbli gardensi." Which was a mouthful. |
So they were learning about Garden Gnomes today, she had been correct in her guess. Not the most thrilling topic of discussion, but creatures were creatures and maybe Professor Thompson had a fun activity planned. Not having experienced these Gnomes first hand - fortunately - she still had some knowlege of them. Raising her hand, she offered something she knew about them. "You can get rid of them by spinning them really fast and letting go so they hurl through the air." She wondered if that hurt them, on top of making them really dizzy. |
Were they dealing with gnomes today?? Declan hated gnomes. Maybe it had to do with the fact they took over his backyard back in the days and stole a football from a 7 year-old a.k.a HIM! Not to mention the fact they bit him when he tried to get back. -______________________- Never. Forget. "They're small and they're mean." Declan fumed. Now he's all bothered. Boo. |
SPOILER!!: P. Thompson SPOILER!!: Cutty GARDEN GNOMES! Yes, professor sir. This class is going to be a fun one! Ethan nodded enthusiastically and bounced a tad. Were they going to de-gnome today? Yes? YES? Bit of course, introductions first. Professor Thompson. Noted. Aaaand what does he know about garden gnomes? Ethan looked around as answers were given from every direction. His attention though, landed on Cutty. Hello, twin. Ethan nodded as Cutty mentioned the creature's appearance. They're not just ugly from the outside. Hand up. "They're not just ugly sir." he said as he turned to Cutty and gave him an approving nod. "They laugh too when you don't properly de-gnome them." MEAN. CREATURE. But then again, he doesn't have to endure humiliation from a gnome, because they were going to be taught how to properly de-gnome a garden. Yes? |
Ugh, gnomes. Pesky little creatures. "I know they're really mischievous and annoying," Bless his parents for not living in the wizarding world. Though either of them couldn't do magic. But bless his magical family for living in the muggle world too. Jun could barely handle annoying family members that reminded him of gnomes. |
Gnomes? They're going to learn about Gnomes today? o_______O Can anyone share another fact they know of the Gnomes? Beside ugly and small? "They're quick breeders, Professor." That's why they're sooooooo many. |
Gnomes, huh? Penelope kinda knew a little about them, but they weren't particularly interesting or cool, so she only remembered the basics, and those had been pretty much covered by now. So she was just gonna sit silently and half-listen to the answers being given. Maybe she'd try to answer the next one. |
Marigold smiled at the professor once more at his greeting, then took out her notebook. Gnomes! She had totally called that, people. Gnomes. They didn't have them in her backyard, thank Merlin, imagine how Moo's family would react! Anyway, facts about gnomes. "I know that they like eating worms, professor." That was from experience. One time when visiting Dec. |
What did West know about gnomes? Well, aside from everything already mentioned... he put his hand up. "When my dad was first an Auror, he arrested a man for running an underground gnome-baiting ring for profit and entertainment. They chuck Jarveys in the ring with the gnomes, and take bets on how long the gnomes will last before they get torn apart limb from limb." Pretty harsh really. It was illegal, obviously. |
Text Cut: Ethan Wot? O_O What did gnome laughter sound like? Cutty was willing to bet his last galleon that it was creepy as hell. If they laughed, did that also meant that they cried? Text Cut: Westside! Stop givin' him ideas! Yeah. Yeah, they cried. A jarvey? Cutty had been meaning to get a pet, or some kind of animal companion for the sake of magic. And Odessa just made jarvey's sound a heckuvalot more interesting than he'd previously imagined they'd be. He couldn't care for a pet. Not properly anyway, but he was starting to think that if all there was to it was feeding it and what and how it ate were an entertainment value to him, why not a jarvey? This whole thing reminded him of how he never did find the Arabic word for 'bait dog'. |
*Blink blink* Did the professor just say garden gnomes?! As in, those cute little pointy hatted things that people kept in their gardens? Only no, these weren't the ones Layla was used to, but a magical kind that were butt-ugly. Seriously, where did those things even come from? So obviously, this seventh year had know idea about magical gnomes and from what her classmates were saying, she didn't want to. |
Josette couldn't help but tilt her head a little bit after what she'd believed she just heard what the Professor had said to the class. Garden Gnomes? She couldn't help but feel a bit caught off guard with such a random question, but Professor Thomspon was the the boss & that was something the twelve year old knew she wasn't going to question so. ...Garden gnomes? She slowly raised her hand, "I-Is it true that Gnome Saliva can give someone the feeling of burgeoning talents such as an urge to sing opera or declaim in Mermish?" Or was that just a myth? |

Angel was too busy trying to figure out about how he knew her last name so she misheard the full question and thought he was talking about the gnomes muggles have in the garden. She raised her hand. "They are made of plastic and normally they have a fishing pole on them, so they stay near a garden pond or something like that." Angel really wanted to know how the Professor knew her last name surely he would tell her right. |

SNORT. Ha...hahahahahaha ...hahahaha. Zahra knew she had to BEHAVE and not tell about that time they TOTALLY CAUGHT ONE and put it in a potato sack and had all these plans.... ... BUT SHE WAS THINKING IT LOUD ENOUGH she was sure Mikey could hear her retell the tale, as she always did. "UHMMMM..... Alls I know is that if you need your barnyard de-gnomed, you have TWO EXPERTS in your presence, Professor T." She flexed her muscles a little and started jumping up and down, getting AMPED UP TO DE-GNOME A BARNYARD FIELD OR WHATEVER. In fact, yeah. She shed her robe. READY. JUST SAY GO, PROFESSOR. |
SPOILER!!: Professor Leah smiled at the 'have our full mobility and youth again' part but the smile ceased almost immediately and she could not help but groan a little. Gnomes? Why couldn't it be something more pretty? Or less annoying? Though there were no gnomes present at Leah's home, considering that there was no garden at all, the second year knew one fact about it. "Gnomes are pests. That's why people do de-gnoming and stuff." she shrugged. Leah could not stand the presence of gnomes. |
Quote:
"My mum has a Garden Gnome." He said automatically. "They're really ugly. The muggle kind." Not exactly an exciting fact, but Theo didn't know much about magical gnomes, just the statue kind. Either way he didn't find the idea of learning about them exciting. |
SPOILER!!: Their appearance+ behavior SPOILER!!: Habitat SPOILER!!: Silent ones SPOILER!!: Jarvey mentions SPOILER!!: Gnome Saliva SPOILER!!: Extra info, theories, comments SPOILER!!: Getting rid of them "Good, most of you have some knowledge if not experience on them." Well, those who answered anyway. "Now then, as I'm sure some of you are imagining we will be de-gnoming the garden here." But first off, "For those of you who neglected to bring own your gloves today do not worry, I have brought spare ones for you to use." Gesturing the basket by his feet. They were unfortunately permanently charmed to remain pink and glittery thanks to a certain individual. Ahem. "Once your gloves are on, go on through the gate and wait for further instructions." Unlocking it, they were free to move in now. --- OOC: As instructed, take/don on a glove and enter into the garden. Next post will be later today. =) |
"All right!" Ethan pumped his fists in the air and immediately wore his own gloves. It was a good thing he double checked the noticeboard prior to attending this class. He didn't want to wear the pink glittery ones. No way. As soon as he was ready, the third year snake stepped inside the fenced garden, and wore his 'come-at-me-bro' face. |
Catching up Thinking of a gome fact that had not already been mentioned, Jasmine raised her hand. "Garden gnomes are known to live in Europe and North America." She was glad that she had been able to add something to the discussion. So they would be de-gnoming the garden. Jasmine felt like she was ready for anything today. She reached into her backpack and dug around the inside in search of her gloves. Grabbing them, she carefully put them on. No gnome bites for her, she didn't care how beneficial their saliva was. All gloved up and ready to go, Jasmine passed through the gates and entered the garden. Standing around with her classmates, Jasmine waited to hear what they should do next. |
De-gnoming...? Toby... wasn't sure. He knew exactly what de-gnoming entailed, and it wasn't something he really saw himself doing. Seemed a bit... cruel. He had his gloves in his hand, ready to put them on, but didn't move to do so just yet. Instead, he sidled up to Thompson. "Professor T," Toby said ever-so-casually, with a teeny tiny smile. Thompson. Mr T. My main maaaaaaan. "Is this... will it hurt them? Isn't it kind of... mean?" Of course, if not, he would do it. But y'know. It helped to ask, right? |
That sounded easy enough. Gwen pulled her secondhand gloves out of her bag and set her bag down in the grass. Wait. By de-gnoming...they weren't going to hurt the cute little guys, were they? Because as far as Gwen could tell, they were only a little bit of a nuisance. Nothing that would hurt them, and she didn't believe in hurting things that weren't hurting her first. She followed the crowd through the gate, looking up at Professor Thompson as she passed him. An older kid was standing there asking the question that was on her mind, so she waited for the answer. It wasn't like setting mouse traps or spraying ant poison? Were they going to be okay? Because Gwen kinda actually wanted one as a pet. |
Too bad they could not view what West was talking about. It would have been interesting at least. Though definitely illegal. Oh..gloves. Well that was one thing Nigel forgot to bring to class. Well at least he had extras. Pink and Glittery extras. Merlin, he was going to have to wear these. Better than a gnome biting your hand or something. He put them on reluctantly and made his way over to the to the gate and through it. Hope the de-gnoming is worth it. |
