Another cold day in the castle has come and you'll find that the Charms classroom is no exception. You can see your breath and you're probably shivering, but today's lesson will certainly (hopefully) help against that. Despite the frost and snow on the windows and the icicles hanging from various places, your professor is still in a somewhat good mood.
Professor Fuller is standing, leaning against his desk at the front of the classroom, bundled up in a coat and gloves, waiting for you all to arrive. So come on in and take a seat, so we can begin!
Class has now started! If you are just arriving, just pretend your character has been here all along. Feel free to discuss!

Another infinity sign and, "Caelum Saepio!" Hmm. It's either the spell was already working, given that there was a whole bunch of students performing the spell simultaneously in one room, or is it because he's been thinking about heat while doing the spell?
Mind over matter? Was that it?
Ethan concentrated on the wall again as he thought clearly of his intention, a sideways infinity sign, "Caelum Saepio!" aaaand that's it. He wasn't sure if it was working, but at least he hasn't drawn any hole on the ancient wall. His attention however went from his task to Sophie who asked Fuller a question.
Hmm. Interesting.

Stopping mid wand movement Beverly glanced toward the front of the classroom as professor Fuller took attention once more. They were going to cast around the walls of the room? That was good practice. Beverly hoped by the time she returned to her dorm she'd be able to cast it fully and charm the ENTIRE dorm.
She almost melted at the thought of a warm, cozy room. Except...she couldn't possibly melt due to frigid temperatures.
Getting up from her seat and putting her mittens back on - she could do this with them on - she stood in front of a wall. Just a random wall. Near a window. The Slytherin gazed it up and down. Then down and up. Then up and down again. She wanted to charm it all. From the ceiling to the floor. She was up for that challenge. Only...well...height was going to be an issue. She wasn't the shortest, but she wasn't the tallest either. Sigh. Curse you height issues. She'd do her height. Yes! Brilliant!
You go, Wayne!
First, she'd test out the waters and see if she really DID have this down. Lifting her arm and aiming her wand at the wall Beverly traced an infinity symbol while casting, "Caelum Saepio!"

The Gryffindor eyed the wall curiously. It kind of felt warmer? Or maybe that was just due to the fact that it looked like everyone was working now and it just seemed like it was supposed to get warmer? At least it wasn't getting any warmer? That was for sure. So... The Gryffindor just shrugged and walked around to another portion of the room. Alright.
For the third time now, the Gryffindor raised his wand. He moved it in a sideways 8-an infinity sign- and then "Caelum Saepio." Watching the wall curiously, as if it'd glow or something this time, the boy decided to say it once more just for good measure.
Alright. "Caelum Saepio!" So he was done now right?

For now, she was just going to assume that her spell, and everyone else's too, was working out to be something of use. Eventually they'd all know if they kept at it because there were so many of them in here giving off heat and if the outside stopped stealing said heat thanks to the charm then surely the classroom would start feeling warmer. She'd go with that and decided to wait until she felt things heating up a bit more.
When she got back to her dorm she would have to get her dormmates to help her with casting this all over the room then making a rule that no one leave the door open. Merlin would this come in handy on those freezing nights where she and her kneazle found it harder to sleep.
Once again she raised her wand, aiming now a little further down the hall before making the horizontal eight or infinite sign...that name worked too.
"Caelum Saepio."
With the numbers already on this wall it should be covered in no time.

Lucy decided to try again with the spell..She didn't want give up..
She said:" Focus Lucy!"
Lucy made a sideways eight sign with her wand but looking at the wall she didn't see nor feel any difference than before..
Angel was still trying to figure out how she was supposed to know if it had worked because well she couldn't see through walls, saying that was there actually a spell to do that? Because if there was she really wanted to learn it and if not surely it wouldn't be hard to create an x-ray vision spell, she'd have to ask her head of house how spells were formed.
"Caelum Saepio" Angel said confidently as she raised her wand and performed the figure of eight wand movement, she had gone a bit further down the wall that the last two times because if the first two had worked then the wall was getting a lot of insulation and she didn't know what would happen if they kept using the spell on the same part of the wall.
Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
"Right, attempt number two". Samantha moved to another area of wall, feeling more confident and hoping that with each attempt she would improve. Pointing her wand at a slightly larger area than before, she did the figure eight motion as she said that now familiar incantation "Caelum Saepio."
Had the spell worked better this time? Maybe the third time would produced the best result.
Leah had realized the infiniy sign was not very easy after all. The twist of her wrist was starting to get tiring. But she got the hang of it by the time the professor announced the last portion.
She moved along the classroom, finding an empty spot. She squeezed between two students to take up a small area of the wall at the front of the room. The badger pointed her wand at the wall and said, "Caelum Saepio." she did the now familiar sideways figure eight at the same time.
The room was feeling warmer, but that was because of the other students. Leah's spell did not work. She pursed her lips, raising her wand to try again.
Pointing his wand up straight in the air, at where he was pretty sure was more or less exactly the same spot as before, Toby swished it into that sideways eight/infinity symbol movement.
"Caelum Saepio!" the Hufflepuff said enthusiastically as he did so.
It was a shame that there was no way of knowing whether their individual spells were working. In fact, it would probably be difficult to instantly work out whether or not the room was insulated yet in general. Only Fuller would know when he checked the room a few hours later.
Still, Toby squinted up at his patch of ceiling nevertheless as if it might give him some kind of clue that the spell was working.

Eeeep, people were starting to leave already? She should start hurrying now. Not that Leah wanted to leave the warmth of the room. She pulled out her wand and directed it at the wall in front of her. "Caelum Saepio."
At the same time, the girl imagined the wall warming up. Then she would be full of happiness and hug the wall for a few seconds before continuing to practise. In her anticipation, Leah did the figure eight the right way up instead of sideways. Oops.

Apparently this whole daydreaming situation that AJ had going on was her new thing. So far it had happened to her in three whole lessons. What was up with that? It was obviously the cold that was doing something to her brain. The professors didn't even seem to care either. He was teaching them a spell that would be helpful, but do you know what would be even more helpful? Hot cocoa, that's what. She could sure go for a cup of that right about now. Matter of fact, AJ was pretty sure that she was starting to have withdraws.
Focus. She needed to get up and claim her a spot before all of the good ones were taken. Not that there were any "good" ones... they were all cold. Dragging herself up, AJ marched over to the closest spot not even paying attention to who she was by and got to work.
She swirled the figure 8 with her wand and cried, "Caelum Saepio!" Nothing. This did not come as a surprise to her. This was how magic worked for the lion. Ugh! It was too cold to try and fight it. Could she just go back to bed now? This cold was doing nothing for her mood!
Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
This was the final try before class was over. Samantha felt that the classroom was getting warmer. Was it her imagination or the effects of a well cast spell? She didn't know for sure. Sam aimed her wand at the section of wall she had been working on and did the figure eight motion whilst saying "Caelum Saepio!"
Sam thought for a few moments, wondering if she had cast the spell correctly. She decided that casting the spell twice wouldn't do any harm. Twice, she repeated the wand motion as she said "Caelum Saepio!"
She smiled to herself as she went back to her desk and packed away her belongings and bade Professor Fuller farewell.

You know what? He was going to go ahead and assume that the spell had worked. Just assume.
Why? Because he was GOOD at spells, thank you. Or liked to assume so.
Lots of assumptions being made today.
Clearing his throat, Grayson moved aloooooooong the wall until he came to a new section. 'Sup. He ran a hand over the wall, almost patting it. There really was NO way to determine whether this section had been covered but there hadn't been anyone near him. Or no one he had seen and paid attention to. Really. WAS there a way to tell? And COULD this be used on humans to retain their heat? Because if so, the Hot Air Charm would have to move aside, he had a NEW favourite warmth spell.
Soooooo. Possible new favourite warmth spell. Work please, mkay? Keep the warmth in the room so that he knew what he was doing and could do the same around the castle AND keep himself warm. That'd be much appreciate, thank you. "Caelum Saepio!" he called, casting the infinity symbol wand movement over that space on the wall.
HAD it worked? HMMMMM?
And jeez, people were done already? Come on, Whitty, food's calling.
Lucy continued to practice the spell..
She pointed her wand on the wall..
Lucy made a sideways eight sign with her wand:"Caelum saepio"
She was feeling warmer but perhaps because she had tried and tried again..

She could do this. "Caelum Saepio." She drew a figure eight over a portion of the wall as she said the incantation. Nothing happened.
Wait, what was supposed to happen? All they were doing was insulating the wall, there weren't any physical affects to observe. Hayden raised her hand. "How do we know if it worked?" She couldn't just move on without knowing if her spell was working.
"Yes, a very good question," he said before taking out his wand. He had failed to mention what the students would see from the charm so they knew they were doing it right. He HAD seen the students perform it successfully so far. "Everyone, listen up for a moment."
Once he had their attention, he began to demonstrate. "You will know when your charm works when you see a slight fog cover the area you just charmed. For example," he paused and then moved his wand in the shape of a sideways figure-eight while saying, "Caelum Saepio," and a little cloud of fog just settled over the area for a brief moment before fading away.
Fuller tucked his wand away. "From what I've seen, most of you have got it down. Keep up the good work." And he would go back to walking around the room to check on students.

He had that thought in his mind, the one about how heat rises. He glanced from the wall of windows to the ceiling, and then at Professor Fuller. Surely he'd be okay with casting on the ceiling, seeing as everyone else was going to be doing the walls. Because once the walls stopped letting heat out, the heat would rise and escape that way. And the ceiling could kind of be considered a wall, after all. Toby decided that that had been a Very Good Idea.
Pausing only to scribbled down the homework assignment, Toby got up out of his seat and out of the way of the desks a little, so he was leaning against the cold cold window. He pointed his wand up at the space of ceiling over his desk.
"Caelum Saepio!" the Hufflepuff cast, and accompanied this with the swooshy infinity sign style wand movement. He had no way of knowing if it had worked or not, but he had another two goes after all.
Okay, no, the window was too cold to be leaning against, so Tobias ceased that at once.
"Professor," he piped up, glancing behind him and to the window. "Can this spell be used on windows, too? Just out of curiosity." Seemed logical, no?
Fuller began to tour around the classroom again, after putting the homework up on the board. As he did, his ears perked up when Toby called for him and asked a question. Ah, and a good question it was. "Yes, windows especially. Of course, if you open the window, the heat will seep out, but as long as the window is closed, it can be insulated from the inside." He gave the boy a supportive smile.

And if he HAD already done that... well, golly, why hadn't he shared the charm with the class earlier on so they could have insulated the school better long ago?!
She wasn't going to argue with him, though, and packed her notes away before moving over to the nearest vacant spot at the wall and waved her wand fluidly in that infinity-sign motion with great intent near the floor, "Caelum Saepio." She gradually raised the motion and moved up the wall, "Caelum Saepio. Caelum Saepio." On the last one, she had her wand waving in the sideways-eight motion up toward where the wall met the ceiling.
Sophie didn't know if it was super effective or not, but she'd felt confident enough, so she had high hopes that it had worked. She had a thought, though, and raised her hand to get Fuller's attention, "Professor? You said whatever heat we produce inside the castle will stay in here. If you - and I'm not saying I will - but if you were to use this charm on a person, would it make the person retain their body heat better so they wouldn't get cold as fast?" Just curious about what it'd do.
As he made his rounds he heard Sophie ask for his attention, too. And she had a rather interesting question. "Charms and the human body are an interesting study. When you want to improve the workings of your body, your best bet would be to lean more towards potions and healing techniques. The insulation charms works more efficiently from the inside, and I don't suggest trying that one out." ... Ow?
"However, insulating your clothing or your blankets would work wonderfully." And would be easier, too.

Simon was just about to cast the charm for a couple more times when Fuller explained the much awaited answer of Hayden's question. A slight fog? He blinked a couple of times as he observed Fuller practice the charm. Why was Fuller so awesome when he took out his wand and cast the spell? Seriously. Someone could have played the James Bond theme song and the Professor still would have gotten away with how cool that looked. Man, why couldn't he be like Fuller?
Focus. Man, he was really starting to lose his mojo being stuck in the castle for weeks on end. He glanced at the wall in front of him and tried to remember what had happened last time he cast the charm. The boy could have sworn that he saw a little cloud of fog last time he used the charm on the wall. "Caelum Saepio!" he cried as he moved his wand in the infinity sign movement. He repeated this several times until he saw a quite visible bit of white fog puff up in front of the wall! "It's working!" he said a little too loudly then he meant to say it. He cast the charm one more time and then proceeded to pack up his things.

Oh hang on, so the fog was meant to be happening? Well wasn't that just a relief because Lex was about to move away from this wall with all of what she thought was smoke action at work. Smoke was always a short way off from a full on fire--which actually would have been really appreciated but...yeah....not like the way she thought it would have been unleashed.
Now they knew it was working, she could continue casting. Nothing was in vain and she wasn't wasting her time when she could be wrapped up in her blanket back at her seat.
Alexa moved just a little further down the wall, feeling like more and more people were crowding the area she was in. No thanks. Bad enough she had to see them all every single day with this lock in. No need for clusters of them in any one place to further drive the little sanity she had left away from her.
Once again she drew the horizontal eight with her wand to get the spell going. "Caelum Saepio."
There was that light fog rising again. Proof that once again, she'd done a good cast. This was definitely gonna happen in her dorm later. Seriously.

Oh. So the fog that he saw meant that his spell worked. He thought for a second there that he had been infusing the wall with cool air. Well good! Ethan nodded and sighed in relief. He'd never forgive himself for damaging school property. Hogwarts' older than his ancestors, he assumed. He'd be picked out of the family tree if he bore a hole in there.
With more confidence now, since he now knows what he needs to see, the blond boy pointed his wand on the wall, drew the sideways infinity sign, "Caelum Saepio!" Aaaaaand cue the fog. Wooohooo! That's it! He's done! Ethan wore a smug smile on his face, and patted the ancient wall.
Yep. It'll live for another century.
Ethan stepped back, turned his back against the wall and got his things from his table. "Thanks for the lesson professor. Keep warm!" the Slytherin grinned at the man as he passed. And just before he exited the room, "Caelum Saepio!"
Fog. Cooool. He learned another spell today. WIN!

Insulating the room? Now THIS Sophie was completely on board with. First the classroom...then the whole castle. For the last few weeks, she'd been walking around the school positive she was going to turn into a popsicle. She could have used this Insulation Charm long before now, but better late than never.
Sophie grasped her wand in her right hand and headed toward the wall. She'd practiced the charm a good bit in the first part of the class, so she was sure she could do this one the first try. With a wave of her wand in the sideways figure eight movement, she called out, "Caelum Saepio!"

Hearing Fuller explain the fog stuff, Zander turned back to the section of the wall that he had just cast the spell on. OOOOH, it was fogging! Hm. Maybe his was just delayed or something. Anyways, right. That was it then, he had done it three time just like the Professor had asked. Buuuuut it didn't hurt to extra insulate the room. Just in case.
So before Zander actually walked back to his desk he preformed the charm on a few other areas with a quick, "Caelum Saepio!" and some fog watching. Wow. That was cool every single time. Right. The Gryffindor happily made his way back to his desk to pack up his things, with the charm still in mind. Actually, this would be one homework assignment that he'd definitely be happy doing. Just because a warm castle was a happy castle. Yep, yep!
He double checked his desk for any last items and then made his way to the door. "Thanks for the cool lesson, Professor!" Yeah, it actually was cool because heeeellloooo warmth was always cool! Especially with all the wonky weather. Yeah. Especially.

Ooooooo a fog. So THAT'S what that was - it was a good sign. Okay. Cool. This charm was simple enough. At Fuller's answer to the question she posed, Sophie griiiiinned. "Okay. Thanks, sir." So he was saying she could aim this particular charm at someone's clothing to help them retain body heat rather than right at the person? She would probably try that.
When he wasn't looking. Hehehe.
Moving along to a new spot on the wall that she hadn't seen anyone insulate yet, Sophie waved her wand once more in the infinity-sign motion, first starting near the floor and working her way up at the wall as she cast slowly, "Caelum Saepio. Caelum Saepio. Caelum Saepio." She ended once again at the crease where the wall met the ceiling and was pleased with the brief fog that covered the wall where she cast as she went, then watched it dissipate.
Fun, fun. Sophie and CB needed to do this to their dormitory ASAP.

Penelope paused to listen when the professor started talking again. A fog? That was what meant they'd done it right? Oh. Had she seen a little bit of a fog in her past couple of attempts?
...She couldn't remember. But he'd said most of them had it down, and she was just gonna assume she was a part of that "most". Wasn't like she could really go back and check anyway. She was kinda ready to leave class anyway and only had one more attempt left - didn't sound appealing to redo two others.
So she selected another spot in the room that she didn't think anyone had gotten to yet. Focusing on it, her wand moved in the infinity symbol again and she cast, "Caelum Saepio."
A little bit of fog appeared on the wall for a couple seconds before fading away. Definitely got it that time for sure. Good.
So now she could gather her stuff and leave, right? Also good.

The wall Sophie was standing by looked pretty insulated by now, so she turned on her heels and headed toward the opposite wall. When she got there, she sought out a place that still hadn't been insulated and positioned herself in front of it. Holding up her wand, she moved it again in the sideways figure eight movement. "Caelum Saepio!" she said.
She moved down the wall and found a second place that still needed to be insulated. "Caelum Saepio!" she said, again moving her wand in that figure eight movement. She did the charm a few more times on that very same wall before deciding that this wall, just like the first one she was at, was now good and insulated.

So there WAS a way of knowing whether the spell had worked or not!
Grayson tilted his head as he watched the fog Fuller produced curiously. Sure, the fog had disappeared soon after but he kept on staring at the spot it had been moments before. Heh. Had he seen a fog when he cast the spell? Honestly, Grayson didn't know. Probably didn't even notice it if it had appeared for him. And he was going to assume it had because he was that confident in his Charms skills. Uh huh.
At long last, the fifteen year old looked away from the spot on the wall and shuffled along to find a new spot. One that, hopefully, hasn't been covered by anyone before. A deep breath was taken, during which Grayson tried to imagine a fog coming out of his wand and the room feeling a little bit warmer because of it. "Caelum Saepio!" he said, moving his wand in an infinity shape.
Andddddd there was the fog! He watched as it lingered for a moment before fading away. Job well done, Whitty. Now those part of the wall was well insulated.
This also meant that he could LEAVE, which he was going to waste no time in doing. Food was calling! So, giving the wall a small pat, Grayson headed over towards his desk and started packing away his things. Everything was unceremoniously stuffed into the bag, even if he wasn't in tag much of a hurry. The bag was slung over his shoulder before he called out, "Thanks for the lesson, Sir! See you!"
Noel got up when he had mastered the incantation. Still practicing the the infinity movement, the thirteen year old found a wall that wasn't already taken by a student. Hearing what the professor was saying, he wondered if he could just practice in himself. The cold was traveling with him. He could try? But with his nasal-y voice and flu, he could say the incantation wrong and blast himself or something.
Better to practice on a wall, yep.
Noel cleared his throat and begin: "Caelum Saepio" he said, followed by the wand movement but no fog was appearing. Drat. So Noel cleared his throat more, and tried again - "Caelum Saepio"Double drat.
"Caelum Saepio" Noel tried again, with more determination - and as much of a clearer voice as he could. He had not stopped doing the wand movment either. AND THERE IT WAS. The fog spread throw against the wall he was aiming at, and Noel beamed. Sweet.
Now maybe he could rub himself against this wall and warm himself?
