Another cold day in the castle has come and you'll find that the Charms classroom is no exception. You can see your breath and you're probably shivering, but today's lesson will certainly (hopefully) help against that. Despite the frost and snow on the windows and the icicles hanging from various places, your professor is still in a somewhat good mood.
Professor Fuller is standing, leaning against his desk at the front of the classroom, bundled up in a coat and gloves, waiting for you all to arrive. So come on in and take a seat, so we can begin!
Class has now started! If you are just arriving, just pretend your character has been here all along. Feel free to discuss!

LOL. Look at how late he was in starting the practice.
Why was this? Because he was jotting a few things down. And trying to think of how GREAT it would be to be one of the people casting the insulation charm. Because the castle DID need this, or a stronger insulation charm placed around it. Keep all the snow and cold out, mkay? There were only so many layers they could walk around in.
Finally -- FINALLY -- the boy was ready to start practising. He placed his quill down and glanced up and over at the board. Caelum Saepio. CAY-lum SAY-pee-oh. "CAY-lum SAY-pee-oh! CAY-lum...... CAY-lum........ CAY-lum...... CAAAAAAY-luuuuuuum......" Was that it? "SAY-pee-oh........ SAY-pee-oh...... SAY-pee-oh........ SAY-pee-oh........"
"Caelum Saepio......... Caelum Saepio....... Caelum Saepio......." That sounded about right to him soooooo he repeated it over and over and over again until he got bored of his own voice.
Agatha tried the wand movement again and it felt alright. Infinity sign. She repeated it over and over, avoiding to go to the next step, which was practising the incantation.
But the lesson wasn't moving forward!! Ugh, noooo! It probably meant she'd have to try the words too... sigh.
Agatha read the incantation over and over and over and over and ooovvveeeerrrr again and mouthed it a couple of times. "Cay... caylo-- caylum. Cay-lum..." She whispered, concentrating REALLY HARD. Luckily she wasn't feeling tired or anything, otherwise that would've given her a headache. "Cay...loom-- lum. Caylum. Caelum...?" Was that... it? Had she gotten the first word right?? "Caelum." ........It sounded okay. She stopped and listened to the others as they practised and it sounded pretty much the same.
"Saylum--" No. The third year squinted her eyes at the board and staaaaaaared for a few second. "Say....saypeeoh."Say...pee...oh. She mouthed. "Say-pee-oh."
Was that it?????????????
Now to put it all together. "Cay-lum Say-pee-um."

FINALLY someone around here was actually doing something to deal with this cold! Caleb was so relieved. This was going to be handy, he was sure. Hehe. Caleum kind of sounded like CALEB. Hehe.
Clearing his throat and scribbling down the incantation and pronunciation on his parchment, he began to practice. "CAY-lum - SAY-pee-oh. CAY-lum SAY-pee-oh." Yes, it was quite a mouthful but would be very beneficial, he had to keep telling himself that...
"CAY-lum - SAY-pee-oh. CAY-lum SAY-pee-oh."

Yeaaaaaaah, he was getting bored with the sound of his own voice. Really. Surprising, wasn't it?
But he was ready to move onto the wand movement, which seemed a lot simpler than the incantation. A sideways figure eight shape. Or an infinity symbol. Dead simple. The only problem he could see himself facing is getting sidetracked as forgetting which way he was meant to be casting the spell. OR ending up simply moving his wand in a horizontal shape. Or his wrist getting tired.
But he wasn't negative. Not this time.
So, picking up his wand, Grayson started practicing the infinity wand movement. A small infinity sign was drawn in the air and then a bigger one and an even bigger one. Because if they were going to be casting the charm over a large area, they'd need to try and cast a large infinity symbol............ yes? Was THAT the case? HMMMM?
Shrug. The Slytherin ignored this theory and continued waving his wand around in the shape of an infinity symbol.

Incantation? Check. It had been easy enough and now it was time to move on to the wand movement. That didn't sound too complicated either. She took out her wand a drew a simple figure eight in the air. There, that wasn't very hard. Hayden knew that actually being able to perform the spell was a different story, but she was ready to try. She drew figure eights in front of her absent-mindedly as she waited for Fuller to continue.

Marigold knew infinity signs. She knew them very well, because as unique as Moo was, when they were ten, she had submitted to the fad of drawing infinity sings on her wrists. And when she wanted one on both her wrists, it fell upon Marigold to draw the second one. So this should be easy. She drew infinities in the air as her mind wandered to the fact that hopefully, with this spell, it would be a loooot warmer in the castle. Yaaaay!
Queen of Typos | The OTHER OTHER Roro | WICKED is Good
After she repeated the incantation more than she could count, the snake sat back in her seat waiting for further instructions. What were the others doing still? It was an easy one. Her eyes scanned the people around her until she realized she'd missed something. Yeah, right, practicing the wand movement!
How smart was she! Scrambling to her wand, she stole a glance at the nearest person to remember what the wand's movement was. Yes, an infinity shape. Easy one!
Twirling her wand in her hand first, she enjoyed the moment before starting to draw infinities in the air all around her. This was fun. Sort of. She could always imagine that there was pixie dust or something being let out by the tip of her wand. Imagination was a good a thing. Though, she knew she wouldn't need to use it for long. Shortly they'll be doing whatever they are meant to do and it would be all serious.

Alright, now that he had the pronunciation down, it was time to move on to the wand movement!
Sideways figure eight...aka an infinity sign, that was easy enough. He took his wand and started to trace the image in midair. Over and over and over. He had to do it longer depending on how large the air was he wanted to heat, yes?
Cool, wand movement down! He was ready to get moving now!

Marigold practiced the infinity symbol a few more times, then decided to work on the pronunciation. Caelum Saepio, was it?"Cay lum sey-no, say, pio? Cay-lum-say-pee-oh?" She chanted it a couple more times in her head. "Caelum Saepio!"
That was the incantation Jun tried to say. But with his weird accent, it sounded a bit off. "CAY-lum Sah-pee-oh?" Nope, that was wrong. Sighing, the boy listened carefully to how other people were saying it. "CAY-lum SAY-pee-oh," There. Jun kept repeating the incantation until he felt it was properly said enough. "CAY-lum SAY-pee-oh!"
Lalala. "Caelum Saepio,"

Was it a requirement for all professors to be fluent in Latin? Maybe it was, or maybe they just looked stuff up for class, but Dima sure didn't take in ANYTHING he said about the roots of the spell. Nah. He was just thinking about how much more effective hugging would be. 'Cause it so would.
But since that didn't require a spell, he set about practicing the one Fuller had assigned them. The man hadn't addressed his question about why it would be any use insulating when the insides of the castle were cold, but he didn't mind all that much. It was probably a REALLY obvious answer.
"Cay-lum Say-pee-oh. Caelum Saepio!" Weren't those vowel sounds called... like... a thongdip? Something. He KNEW.

He supposed, since he was done with practicing himself, that there wouldn't be any harm taking note if any of his housemates needed help right? West sorta looked around... and okay, probably if anyone asked he'd help other houses too but... y'know. Slytherin first for reasons.
...
.... but they all seemed to be saying things right and moving wands right and all that so West just continued looking around and let his mind wander about the things he wanted to ask Fuller later.
Maybe.

Incantation practice went on and on, and Dima was sure he was getting wronger than righter. The more his tongue tried to roll out the confusing layered vowel sounds, the more he began to trip and stumble over them, turning words meant to fall smoothly from his lips into something twisted.
Which meant he needed to progress to the movement. It was a piece of cake, just an infinity sign. Did that mean the charm lasted forever? What about when it was September and school started again and everything was hot? What if it COOKED the students? Infinity signs were now scary.
But at least he could do the spell.

Insulation charms, yes. That would be awesome, and they could put them on specific rooms too, right? Toby could get Kace and the other boys from their dorm and they could really go to town at sealing in the warmth in their dormitory so they didn't keep waking up with pretty much frozen toes and everything.
Okay, so the spell. Toby flashed Fuller a 'don't worry be happy' kind of grin before noting down the spell, it's properties, the wand movement and the incantation.
"CAY... lum... SAY... pee... oh..." he said out loud as he copied the phonetics for the incantation down. "CAY-lum SAY-pee-oh." Toby set his quill down and continued practicing. "Caelum Saepio... Caelum Saepio." It was difficult to say at first, as it would be difficult for a lot of people trying out a new word. But he was getting there. "Caelum Saepio."

Now that he had the incantation down, Jun took out his wand and practiced the movement. A basic infinity sign. Making the sign, along with sounding the word out with pauses in between. Trying not to move his arm too much along with the movement, Jun focused it more on his wrist.
These charms would definitely come in handy with this weird cold and snow. Burning pages out of his textbooks were cutting it anymore. Maybe clothes would be next.

The wand movement they needed to practice would be easy. Sometimes when Toby was bored or distracted he would absentmindedly do that wand movement anyway, which could sometimes end up with random things bursting into flames and therefore ending the Hufflepuff's peaceful trances. But that was besides the point. The here and now was that Toby had this part covered.
But still he practiced it, because it was a lesson after all. Picking up his wand again, Toby swooshed it in that same infinity sign. And then again. And again. Easy. He just kept practicing that until he heard Fuller say anything about moving on.

Insulation...it sounded divine. Heck she'd fill her bones with it if it kept her warm. Her chattering teeth weren't helping her pronounce the spell or even to practice it. Nothing seemed to help her stop the chattering.
"CAY... lum... SAY... pee... oh..." she stammered out through gritted chattering teeth. "Caelum Saepio, Caelum Saepio" she practiced the words twice now with hopes of making it sound absolutely chatter-free.

As the students began to list of (mostly) magical ideas that would help keep the castle warm, Piers put his chalkboard to work and charmed his piece of chalk to write down the ideas they had.
Most of the ideas were fairly decent. Some were a little far fetched, but that was to be expected. The problem with most of the large-scale ideas that SEEMED really good was that... Well, they just weren’t that effective anymore. Not as much as they used to be when it wasn’t negative FIVE THOUSAND degrees.
Fuller set the chalk down for the moment. ”Good ideas, guys. Now, let’s go over something important, as I am sure most of you are wondering... if there’s all these possibilities for charms, why are we still freezing our butts off? Well, the wonderful thing about this unnatural weather is that it is SO bad and SO cold, our normal charms aren’t even making a difference anymore.”
Whoop-dee-do. Wasn’t that great?
Okay, onto the positive side.
”A few of you mentioned an insulation charm. A charm that would keep our heat inside the castle and not let it seep out. There is such a charm, and yes, we can apply it to the castle, but we’re going to need your help to enforce it. So today, we will be learning how to perform the insulation charm, and for your homework, you will be performing it all over the castle to hopefully better retain what little heat we have.”
After that somewhat bitter explanation of what they would be doing today, Fuller turned back towards the board and began to write out the incantation for the students.
Caelum Saepio CAY-lum - SAY-pee-oh
”Caelum Saepio,” he said out loud, so they could hear him pronounce it. ”In latin, Caelum roughly translates to Climate and Saepio means to close, seal off, or shut in. What we’ll be doing with this charm is sealing off the castle’s climate from the outside, so whatever heat we produce in here, will stay in here. But, as with all charms, the stronger the opposing force, the harder concentration and greater strength from the caster is needed..” That’s why EVERYONE had to do their homework, so they could insulate this castle and stay warm.
Fuller set the chalk down again. ”The wand movement for this charm is very simple.” He got out his wand to demonstrate and traced a sideways figure eight in front of him. ”You will trace a sideways figure eight, also known as the infinity sign, over the area you would like to insulate while saying the incantation. You may have to do that more than once, or even more than a few times, depending on how large the area you wish to insulate is.
“For now, I want you all to first practice speaking the incantation and then practice the wand movement, separately.”
Talking about a charm for insulation and all variations of heating was sufficiently warming Sophie up from the inside out, so much so that she removed the Hufflepuff scarf she was wearing and set it off to the side. The power of thought.
The spell looked funny in writing, but it seemed simple enough to have a go at. "Cay-lum Say-pee...uh? Oh. Say-pee-oh," she spoke softly to herself - no need to give her funny looks, she had this - and repeated the correct one, "Cay-lum Say-pee-oh. SAY-pee-oh, CAY-lum SAY-pee-oh. Caelum Saepio." Fluid. Rolled from the tongue. She jotted the spell down in her notes, then, and wrote it out phonetically for future reference. Seemed like a pretty useful spell for all sorts of occasions.
Now that she had the words down, or well mostly down she moved on to the tricky part. Or more the super easy part really. Wand in hand she slowly moved it in an arching and still very smooth figure eight shape.
"Okay lets do this" she muttered to herself as she prepared to actually cast the spell. "Caelum Saepio" she spoke, the words came out as clearly as possible. She again practiced the spell, her cold fingers balled into fists below the sleeves of her many sweaters and robes.

Caelum Saepio. It looked even funnier in her own handwriting than it had in Fuller's on the board. She jotted down the charm's word-specific meanings of "climate" and "seal off" next, then continued writing along to note the wand movement he described - a sideways figure-eight over the area they wanted to insulate. And, for good measure, she noted that she'd probably have to perform it more than once for proper insulation.
Flicking her wand from its holster, Sophie peered around at the others who were practicing it, too, then followed suit after a moment, her wrist loose as she traced the infinity sign in the air in one smooth motion - and then she kept going, sideways figure-eighting over and over again because the motion was kind of fun and addicting. Easy.

As the students began to practice the incantation and the wand movement, Fuller stuffed his cold hands into his coat pocket and began to wander around the room to get a better look. Everyone seemed to get it eventually, which was a great sign. The wand movement seemed to be fairly easy for them as well. After a few minutes, when everyone seemed to have it down, the professor returned to the front of the room.
"Good work, everyone. Now for the last portion of our class, we're going to start putting this charm to work. I want you all to get up and choose a section of wall in this classroom and insulate it with that spell. Simply point your wand at the wall, and draw a figure eight while saying the incantation. I want you to do this three times. While you do that, I'll put the homework on the board." Fuller gave them the go and then returned to the chalkboard to write down the homework.
"Once you are finished, you may leave!" he announced as well.
OOC: Sorry for the massive delay in posts. My week was a lot busier than planned! For full points, please make three posts performing the Insulation Charm on the walls of the classroom and include the wand movement and incantation. You will have three days from this post to complete it! Thanks for coming to Charms class!

Now it was time to do the spell for real. Jasmine hoped that they would be successful in their attempts to insulate the castle. Looking around the room, she zeroed in on the spot she would target. Jasmine walked over to the wall and took out her wand.
Jasmine began to concentrate on what she was about to do and think nice warm thoughts. Once she had "warm" fixed in her mind, she raised her wand. Making a sideways infinity sign, she said, "Caelum Saepio". Did it work? Jasmine had no idea, but she would repeat the spell two more times and hope for the best.

~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
On to the final part of the lesson, then. Adi looked around, trying to decide which part of the classroom's wall he would work on. He noticed Jasmine had already selected her spot and had started the activity already.
The Hufflepuff decided on a spot right next to his Ravenclaw friend. He drew his wand. "Caelum Saepio!'' Cue the infinity sign shaped wand movement. Sooo, did it work? He really didn't have an inkling. Adi just shrugged and got ready to cast the charm again.
A section of the wall, huh? Toby looked around the classroom for a moment, trying to decide just where he would work. Of course, he was right by a window, and so it made sense to cast on one of the walls between the windows. Still, what made sense was not necessarily always what Toby did.
He had that thought in his mind, the one about how heat rises. He glanced from the wall of windows to the ceiling, and then at Professor Fuller. Surely he'd be okay with casting on the ceiling, seeing as everyone else was going to be doing the walls. Because once the walls stopped letting heat out, the heat would rise and escape that way. And the ceiling could kind of be considered a wall, after all. Toby decided that that had been a Very Good Idea.
Pausing only to scribbled down the homework assignment, Toby got up out of his seat and out of the way of the desks a little, so he was leaning against the cold cold window. He pointed his wand up at the space of ceiling over his desk.
"Caelum Saepio!" the Hufflepuff cast, and accompanied this with the swooshy infinity sign style wand movement. He had no way of knowing if it had worked or not, but he had another two goes after all.
Okay, no, the window was too cold to be leaning against, so Tobias ceased that at once.
"Professor," he piped up, glancing behind him and to the window. "Can this spell be used on windows, too? Just out of curiosity." Seemed logical, no?

Angel found a place on the wall the practice. "Caelum Saepio!!" Angel then did the figure of eight wand movement and looked at the wall had it worked, well she had no idea but all she knew was she had to do it a couple more times and well maybe the Professor would know if it worked, all she knew was that she was still very cold and she wanted her bed so she could be warm again.
