| | Charms 2 Another cold day in the castle has come and you'll find that the Charms classroom is no exception. You can see your breath and you're probably shivering, but today's lesson will certainly (hopefully) help against that. Despite the frost and snow on the windows and the icicles hanging from various places, your professor is still in a somewhat good mood.
Professor Fuller is standing, leaning against his desk at the front of the classroom, bundled up in a coat and gloves, waiting for you all to arrive. So come on in and take a seat, so we can begin! Class has now started! If you are just arriving, just pretend your character has been here all along. Feel free to discuss! Class Progression:
1. Welcome to class. What have you been doing to keep warm?
2. Other ideas to keep warm?
3. Introducing the Insulation Charm. Practice!
4. Practical portion instructions.
5. Homework Assignment. |

There was not much to this. Tag listened to Fuller, nodded his head here or there whenever he agreed with, or understood whatever Fuller was saying. Which was pretty much anything.
So now he just had to practice saying the spell first before he could do the wand movement. He was gonna start off saying the incantation slowly and separately.
"CAY-lum SAY-pee-oh. CAY-lum SAY-pee-oh." Saying the incantation could always get repetitive. Here he went again. "CAY-lum SAY-pee-oh. CAY-lum SAY-pee-oh. Caelum Saepio. Caelum Saepio. Caelum Saepio." There it seemed that Tag had gotten it down. Now, to do the wand movement next.

Locking the cold out? Yes please. Why hadn't they thought of this any sooner? It could have saved them from having snow in the Great Hall. It was the most annoying thing when trying to enjoy a meal. Was it any wonder she usually just snacked down in the kitchen these days unless given reason to do otherwise? The Gryffindor was entirely sick of the sight of snow. It'd been enchanting as it was every year until it struck March and the weather gave little indication of letting up. Now it was a nuisance, a haunting one.
Not bothering to take her wand from it's holster yet--save the hands some warmth while she still could--Lex simply sat there bundled in her blanket as she was, ready to get the incantation rolling off her tongue. "Caelum Saepio...CAY-lum - SAY-pee-oh....CAY.....lum...SAY...pee-oh" Admittedly it wasn't one of the trickier ones that she might have needed some time to get her tongue accustomed to. Almost had a nice ring to it but that might have been because of what it could do and how cold she was feeling right about now.
Clearly her hot air charm was wearing off. "Caelum Saepio."

Incantation practice now out of the way, the third year Hufflepuff began to work on the associated wand movement. Thumbs up for it being a simple and easy one. A figure eight or the infinity sign.
Adi moved his wand as if tracing out a number eight. And then again. And again. He did this a couple more times but how many times can you practice that when it was perfect already? Awesome! Now he was ready to actually try out the charm. Whenever you're ready, Professor.

| Post 2 Baguette | there is no D in my name | TRAITORclaw | Queenie of Narnia So the incantation part was done. Now just the wand movement. Which should be easy.
A sideways eight, or an infinity sign basically. Penelope picked up her wand and moved it in that shape a few times. She tried to imagine saying the incantation and making it work, trying to elongate and shorten the movement a little a few times as well. Maybe that would help whenever they started practicing and trying it on larger areas? Worth a shot.
And...yeah, her wrist was getting tired of that, so time to stop. Seemed like enough practice for now.

Here came the harder part, not based on the actual level of difficulty but the fact she'd have to remove her hands from the blanket if she hoped to get any practising in for the wand movement. Her face had told the rest of her all she needed to know, which was that the outside of the blanket didn't feel nearly as nice as the inside. Still, it was better to get this over with. At the very least she would just have to re-charm the blanket warm after she'd let all the warm out.
it took some time convincing herself but her wand hand finally slipped free of the warm fabric at which point she reached for her wand and raised it.
Horizontal eight or the infinity sign. This had the potential for a lot of wrist swishing and flicking. Did it matter how tight the movements were? In most cases it did. Couldn't have the wrist movement too slack otherwise nothing might happen. Too much and she might break something--an appealing idea grant you but not one she cared for just this minute. Swish. Swish. Swish.
Nothing to it really, except a hand, unappreciative of the cold.

Angel was totally not looking forwards to this next part because well here she was totally cold and her hands now had to do some of the work when they wanted to rest and try and stay warm.
Angel took out her wand and smiled the incantation was down and now this seemed to be easier than she had expected, she used her wand to make a sideways figure eight, when she was happy she had done it right, it took her a few attempts, she smiled as she waited for the next instruction.

Alright, now that Tag was done with the incantation he could move onto practicing the wand movement. Seemed easy enough, just a sideways eight, nothing no one could do.
So, Tag got out his wand and started doing just then. Moving his wand in a figure eight. First doing it slowly, making sure he had a good formation of the movement. Then he did it quickly and swiftly, one smooth motion. The blonde went from slow to fast several times, trying to figure out what speed of motion felt most comfortable to him, until he decided that a precise slow speed was best for him.
Now, he'd finished both tasks. Time to wait for Fuller's next set of instructions.

When she first saw the incantation written on the board, Hayden thought she was going to be in trouble. But when professor Fuller said it out loud for them, she relaxed a little. It didn't sound too hard to pronounce. When he finished talking, she practiced saying it herself. "Caelum Saepio." That sounded right. "Cay...lum...Say...pee...oh." The second time she said it slowly, and then said it a third time. "Caelum Saepio." Okay, not too hard to pronounce. At least it wasn't like the incantations they'd been learning in Transfiguration that she spent most of her time trying to pronounce correctly. Hayden didn't think she would have too much trouble with this one.

| Post 1 ♥s her SS family l Wifey is MINE | Naughty Niffler l Whittysaur l #awkwardturtle<# So they were learning an insulation charm. That made a lot of sense. Lux could see the practicality of it, and quickly wrote down notes as Professor Fuller explained everything. If the coldness issue was resolved that would be amazing, though she would have felt a lot better if Bay had been healed first. At least this way he would have a nice and warm castle to wake up to instead of a giant ice cube.
Positivity was always a good thing.
First things first she needed to practice the incantation. "Caelum Saepio... Caelum Saepio." Not the easiest spell to pronounce, so breaking it down was a good idea. "CAY-lum SAY-pee-oh... CAY-lum SAY-pee-oh." Much better. "CAY-lum SAY-pee-oh." |

Alright it was time to learn the spell. He saw the incantation on the board and copied it down in his notebook. Caelum Saepio. He even copied on how to spell it CAY-lum - SAY-pee-oh. Then the wand movement was a sideways figure eight. Easy enough for him. He smiled and now it was time to practice the incantation.
He began saying..."CAY-lum - SAY-pee-oh.......CAY-lum - SAY-pee-oh.......CAY-lum - SAY-pee-oh......CAY-lum - SAY-pee-oh.......CAY-lum - SAY-pee-oh.....CAY-lum - SAY-pee-oh..." Now he was getting there. Let's see if he can put it together now. "Caelum Saepio......Caelum Saepio.....Caelum Saepio.....Caelum Saepio....Caelum Saepio....Caelum Saepio....Caelum Saepio....Caelum Saepio." he repeated it and now he was confident. He was now practicing onto the wand movements.

Sophie was sure she had the incantation down pat now. It wasn't exactly that hard--she just had to remember how to say it the right way while also doing that sideways figure eight motion. Speaking of the wand movement...
Sophie finally flicked her wand out her holster and held it firmly in her hand. She outstretched her arm then began waving the wand in a figure eight motion. She kept her eyes on the movement just to make sure it was as exact as possible.
It was kind of fun making figure eight motions. Heh.
She stopped waving her wand and tried the incantation one more time for good measure. "Caelum Saepio," she said. Mmkay. Incantation and wand movement down pat. Now let's go thaw out this castle.

Now time to do the wand movement! He had to do a sideways figure eight. He thought that would be soo easy. He did like an infinity symbol his sister used to have on her jewelry. He did that a few times. He could do this in his sleep. It was quite fun and he even heard some cracks in his wrists. He didn't realize how stiff his wrists were.
He did a couple... Swish swish swishes
Then he was done and was ready to do the task at hand. He was prepared to get this castle warm. again. He even did the incantation to make sure he had it right ""Caelum Saepio!" There now he was more than ready.

Insulation. It seemed like a dead useful spell to use, especially since Mo intended to go yeti hunting in the future. The very near future. He was basically already living in the coldest he could ever remember being. It was good practice, that was for sure, and this spell was one he really needed to master.
As soon as they were let loose, Mo started trying out the incantation. Caelum Saepio. It was a doozy, what will all those diphthongs, so he worked it out slowly. "Cay-lum Say-pee-oh. Caelum Saepio." Was it possible to apply multiple strengths? Multiple applications? Hmm... experimentation was needed.

Picking it up, she began making the movements, first going slowly and then faster. It was all in the wrist, and she smiled to herself as she made figure eight after figure eight. They would have this castle insulated in no time. Spotting Kace working near her, she sent him a smile. |

The wonderful thing? Beverly almost laughed, and not because it was funny. But because it was all stupid and not even magic worked with this weather. Did that mean the weather was magical as well?
Perhaps wizard-made?
Hmmmm?
No. That would be a terrible thing. That'd mean they were being targeted and they've been sitting ducks all along. Beverly Juniper Wayne was NO sitting duck. She was the predator, thank you very much!
Insulation Charm. Now THAT was something she was interested in, and once she learned it and ran to her dorm room she'd CAST it all around her walls and take a nice, warm nap. What a beautiful plan, it was.
First, she had to get this charm down. Clearing her scratchy throat, she pronounced carefully: "Cae-lum...Sae-pio." Her throat hurt. "Caeluuuuum...Saepiiiiioooo." This wasn't helping. "Caelummmmm...Saepiooooo." Stop complaining, Wayne.
"Caelum Saepio." There. Itchy and scratchy throat, but there.

It was nice the incantation was relatively easy to remember, and even NICER that the wand motion was easy. Mo tried to imagine being stuck somewhere really cold and having to perform a wand motion when his hands were shaking and stiff and he could barely hold onto his wand.
Sort of like now, really. A figure eight motion was actually pretty easy to manage, even if his wand was a little wobbly, and Mo whipped it around in tight circles. The blood was returning to his hands, and his fingers were able to grip harder, the wand motion becoming more precise as he worked. Sorta... just like that.

Wand movement was next. By the looks of it, it wasn't tooo complicated. What was going to take more concentration was the actual casting and how large the area she cast on was--her ENTIRE dorm. Beverly slipped her mittens off and drew her wand out.
Figure eight. Infinity sign.
Two squiggles joined together. Simple, yeah? Raising her wand and aiming at the table, Beverly traced an eight. At first slow, then on her second try at a more confident pace. She repeated it a few times. Doing that even calmed her.

| Post #2: Wand Movement Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
The wand movement was next so Samantha went over her notes as she grabbed her wand out of the left pocket of her robes. She pictured the wand movement in her head as she carefully traced the motion of the sideways figure eight with her wand. At first, her movement was very cautious as she wanted to make sure that she was doing the right motion. After a few more practice motions, Sam felt more confident in her action.
After a number of minutes, she placed her wand down on her desk and awaited Professor Fuller's instructions. Her arm felt a bit stiff and sore.

Still irritated that she was having to practice a spell that may or may not even work, Layla pulled out her wand and began practicing the wand movement. A simple sideways figure eight. Easy peesy lemon squeezy. Could do it in her sleep. She went over it a few more times though, just for the heck of it. And maybe a little to taunt anyone who was having trouble with it.

| Post 2 *sappysapper* MAJNOO, YO! He had repeated the incantation enough times to ALMOST get it right, there was still a certain nasaly feel to it and he wasn't so sure if it would work when he said it with a wand. He only hoped he didn't blast someone's head off.
Rummaging through his bag, the boy took out his wand. Yes, he hadn't tucked it inside his robes because he was wearing TOO MANY layers of clothing and he was sure he would lose it.
Remembering what the professor had said, Noel first moved his finger - making the infinity sign in air.
"Caelum Saepio" he repeated to himself, in case he forgot. Because he totally would. It was latin. And his head was not really that well.
Gripping his wand tight in his hand, Noel did the wand movement. It was a shaky start but Noel got the hang of it soon enough. GOOD. Now could someone cast it around him so he could feel warm?

| post 2 doesn't proofread tweets | #wrongaboutcereal | #siriusly? | emo to the extremo A sideways figure eight? That was simple. A heck of a lot simpler than that calcium incantation or whatever that had been. Like really. Couldn't spells be in English? That's the language they all spoke so couldn't they translate or something? Hmph. Wizards were weird. Except for Bentley, she was perfect. As always. But all the rest of these lunatic Professors? Weird. Just weird.
Anyways. The movement. After several more rounds of incantation practice, Zander decided that it was time to y'know move on with it? It looked like everyone else was starting to get on to the second portion of the task at hand, so it seemed like a pretty good place to hop on the train too.
The third year picked up his wand and began figure eighting all over the place. First the left side, then loooooop it all the way around to the right! And then more and more and more and more and-- Boy, his arm was getting tired! Alas, the things he does for class. This one's all for you, Fuller! Also, if Fuller had this charm up his sleeve this ENTIRE TIME why couldn't he share it earlier? And y'know AVOID the entire Hogwarts population catching a communal cold? Just a thought. Only his two scents in the situation... Just sayin'.

Great.
When the enchantment was written on the board and professor Fuller said it out loud, the girl FROWNED and stared at the awfully horrible incantation. Merlin, how she wished he was only joking...
But no. And there was a wand movement too. Well, she could do that. Pulling out her wand, Agatha thought for a second and then did a sideways eight. Infinity sign. Right, she got that. ............And only that.

West, by this point, had moved on to the wand movement. Like conducting a particularly repetitive orchestra. Sideways figure eight or... an infinity sign. Same difference ish? Except the infinity sign felt more flowy so he stuck with that. Over and over.
And over.
And over.
And over.
And over.
He was a pro, clearly.

Penelope had repeated the incantation enough times to get it right, so she moved on to the wand movement. Sideways figure eight. She repeated the wand movement over and over, until her arm was tired. When her arm got too tired, she rested her arm for a few minutes. Why hadn't they learned this spell a few months ago? It could have been so much warmer inside. After a few minutes, she started the wand movement again. Infinity sign, over, and over, and over... This could go on forever.
