Another cold day in the castle has come and you'll find that the Charms classroom is no exception. You can see your breath and you're probably shivering, but today's lesson will certainly (hopefully) help against that. Despite the frost and snow on the windows and the icicles hanging from various places, your professor is still in a somewhat good mood.
Professor Fuller is standing, leaning against his desk at the front of the classroom, bundled up in a coat and gloves, waiting for you all to arrive. So come on in and take a seat, so we can begin!
Class has now started! If you are just arriving, just pretend your character has been here all along. Feel free to discuss!
Leah missed the lecture part about insulation due to her arranging her scarf, but picked up her wand to practice the spell. Oops, she needed to practice the incantation first, and that did not require her wand. Pocketing her wand again awkwardly, she cleared her throat and said, "CAY-lum - SAY-pee- what?" the Hufflepuff stopped, frowning. That was a weird incantation, but oh well. "CAY-lum - SAY-pee-oh. CAY-lum SAY-pee-oh." she muttered.
"Caylum Saypeeoh. Caelum Saepio!" Was that right? At least it did sound a bit like what the professor had said.

Simon watched as Professor Fuller nodded at their ideas and explained that there was indeed a type of insulation charm. His eyes widened. That was awesome. He pulled out his notes and began writing.
SPOILER!!: notebook
Insulation charm- keep our heat in the castle and not let it seep out.
-incantation: Caelum Saepio {CAY-lum - SAY-pee-oh}
Caleum = Climate
Saepio = Close/Seal Off/Shut in Wand Movement: Trace a sideways figure eight (infinity sign) over area you wish to insulate. Have to do it more than once or multiple times depending on how large the area is.
With notes written in his notebook, Simon decided that it was time to start practicing the incantation. CAY-lum SAY-pee-oh? he thought. "CAY-lum. SAY-pee-OH," he began. His eyes widened. There was way too much emphasis on the 'OH' part. "CAY-lum SAY-pee-oh. CAY-lum SAY-pee-oh. CAYlum SAYpeeoh. Caelum Saepio," he repeated a couple more times. "Caelum Saepio."
Yep, that sounded good to him. Next, he had to learn the movement.

Watch watched as the professor's charmed chalk began to write down all in-suh-lay-shun (as Dima put it)? What Kyroh wanted to know was if his idea was so good then why weren't they learning the hugging room charm? Huh? Why the insulation charm?
Kyroh pouted for a bit before straightening his face. He COULD be sad about this. But the whole insulation thing was BASICALLY Maddies idea and he couldn't be sad about that now could he? NOPE.
Wait-Latin? Latin words? They had to know Latin for Charms? "Sir if I don't know Latin can I still do this spell?" And other than its meaning why Caelum? What did this guy Caelum have to do with anything. Maddie was the one who had said the idea FIRST. Kyroh figured the spell should have been named after HER even if her name wasn't latin or anything. And it SO could be.
Aright. He didn't know Latin but he'd try! "CAY-lum" Kyroh mumbled. "CAY-lum... SEE-....no SAY-yeah-pee-oh. SAY-pee-oh " He stretched each word getting a familiar feel for them in his mouth. "CAY-lum - SAY-pee-oh- Caelum Saepio. Caelum Saepio." Taking out his wand the boy reached over and poked Zander in the side. "LOOK I can speak Latin!!" WATCH Zander! Watch! Was the boy watching? "Caelum Habanero!- no i mean Saepio. Yeah!" He grinned. Total Latin speaker now.

The school actually needs its students to reinforce the school's cold repelling charm? Merlin. That could only mean that their fortress is sloooooowly being defeated by the freak weather outside. Ethan briefly glanced at the window as his mind wandered yet again as to what's causing it. He's quite intrigued as to what he'll see as soon as the snow's gone though.
Right. Onto the incantation. Caelum Saepio. Now that Fuller explained what it meant in English, Ethan had no problem wrapping his brain around the words, and began speaking it. "Caelum Saepio." While practicing it over and over again, he got his notebook and wrote the spell in big, bold letters. Holding up a quill with his gloves on is a challenge, you know? Caelum Saepio.
"CAY-lum SAY-pee-OH. Caelum Saepio."

Reason: forgot to put the title.
His voice ALL nasaly so the practicing the charm was a complete disaster. And it was latin. He was so not getting this done. But for whatever reason, he tried still.
"CAY-lumnn SAYNN-pee-ohn." SNIFFLE. "CAY-lum SAY-pee- AH-kh-AHEm" He cleared his throat but such fail.
Could he just mumble stuff until the professor moved to the next thing? He should really be excused for poor health. "CAY-lum SAYNN-pee-oh" he tried again, and this time it almost got better before. "CAY-lum SAY-pee- AH-kh-AHEm" SNEEEEZE.
He wasn't sure how long his heart could take it. Sniffle Sniffle. "AY-lum SAY-pee-OH. Caelum Saepio."
Breathe breathe breathe. "CAYlum SAYpeeoh. Caelum Saepio" He said, voice small before sneezing again.

Oh, how we drift away from our friends. And the ones back home play remember when
"An Insulating Charm. Wish I had thought of that!" Sam scolded herself internally.
She listened attentively to Professor Fuller as he discussed the incantation and the precise wand movement. She took out her quill and a piece of parchment and wrote down a couple of notes.
Wand Movement:
Use a sideways figure eight (also known as the infinity sign) over the site you wish to insulate.
Spell may need to be repeated a few more times to produce the satisfactory effect.
Sam placed her quill on her desk and began to mutter the incantation.
"CAY-lum - SAY-pee-oh" she said over and over again, making sure that she was pronouncing the incantation correctly. Sam continued for another two minutes until, finally...
"Caelum Saepio"
Sam felt satisfied but she hoped that she had done things correctly.

She had basically been right about the castle and she wasn't getting credit for it? What a rip off! No, seriously. Instead, they were learning a charm that EVERYONE IN THE CASTLE had to preform CORRECTLY and SEVERAL TIMES and even then there was no guarantee that it would work. They were doomed. Because it was fact that when you got that many people together trying to do the same thing at the same time, something was bound to go very very wrong.
But still, because Layla really didn't want to be labeled as the one who had doomed them all to death even though they already were, she started practicing the charm. Even though she wasn't happy about it and she was sure that shown on her face.
"CAY-lum SAY-pee-OH, CAY-lum SAY-pee-OH, CAY-lum SAY-pee-OH Caelum Saepio." There's a chance all of that may have been sarcastic in nature.

..A new charm..
Lucy listened the instructions of the professor..
Now it was time to practice the incantation..
She needed to be concentrated and to speack slowly..
Lucy closed her eyes then she started to mutter:"Cae-lum Sae-pio... Cae-lum Sae-pio"
She tried and tried again..
Angel really wanted to try this out, she had never heard of this spell and being from a muggle family she loved to try out new spells "Caelum Sapio" Angel wanted to make sure she got this right so she decided to break the incantation up.
"Caelum" Angel had got the first bit right, but that seemed to be the easiest to pronounce the second bit seemed to be a bit harder. "Sapio.." Angel sighed nope that wasn't right, she would try again. "SAY-pee-oh." Angel smiled as she realised she had said it right, but she wanted to be sure. "CAY-lum - SAY-pee-oh." Angel thought that this spell was disgusting. "CAY-lum - SAY-pee-oh!"
Angel decided now was the time to put them both together. "CAY-lum - SAY-pee-oh!" Angel was sure now that she had the incantation down. "Caelum Saepio" Angel now just had to practice the wand movement.
Now for the wand movement portion. The movement was considerably difficult to the other spells Leah had been learning for the past year and three quarters, as those were mostly a jab or a swish and flick. A sideways figure eight.. she had heard that that is the infinity sign, but why? If the reason was Arithmancy-related she would rather give up trying to know.
Anyway, back to the lesson. The Hufflepuff pulled out her wand for the second time and started randomly drawing an infinity sign in the air over and over again. It was fun after several attempts but she stopped when she got bored. Leah tried the wand movement once more before deciding that she got the hang of it.

So they would be learning an insulation charm. Interesting. Jasmine was all for anything that would help warm up the castle. She hoped that this would work because she was tired of being a human popsicle. Writing down all of the pertinent information in her notebook, she prepared to practice the spell.
Jasmine would tackle the incantation first because.......well just because. Glancing down at her notes, she studied the words. They looked harder than they sounded, she hoped. "Cay-lum Say-pee-oh", she said, making sure to enunciate each syllable. Then Jasmine repeated the incantation several times. "Cay-lum Say-pee-oh, Cay-lum Say-pee-oh, Cay-lum Say-pee-oh." When at last she felt comfortable with the words, she repeated them at normal speed. "Caelum Saepio". That felt a,lot better rolling off Jasmine's tongue. Just to be sure though, she repeated the incantation a few more times. Now, on to the wand movement.

So today, we will be learning how to perform the insulation charm, and for your homework, you will be performing it all over the castle to hopefully better retain what little heat we have.”
After that somewhat bitter explanation of what they would be doing today, Fuller turned back towards the board and began to write out the incantation for the students.
Caelum Saepio CAY-lum - SAY-pee-oh
”Caelum Saepio,” he said out loud, so they could hear him pronounce it. ”In latin, Caelum roughly translates to Climate and Saepio means to close, seal off, or shut in. What we’ll be doing with this charm is sealing off the castle’s climate from the outside, so whatever heat we produce in here, will stay in here. But, as with all charms, the stronger the opposing force, the harder concentration and greater strength from the caster is needed..” That’s why EVERYONE had to do their homework, so they could insulate this castle and stay warm.
Fuller set the chalk down again. ”The wand movement for this charm is very simple.” He got out his wand to demonstrate and traced a sideways figure eight in front of him. ”You will trace a sideways figure eight, also known as the infinity sign, over the area you would like to insulate while saying the incantation. You may have to do that more than once, or even more than a few times, depending on how large the area you wish to insulate is.
“For now, I want you all to first practice speaking the incantation and then practice the wand movement, separately.”
OOC: You must make two posts for full points. One post practicing the incantation and one post practicing the wand movement. You have 24 hours before we move on to the practical portion!
Why yes he had... though the one he used on his own clothing was a different charm... more of a personal insulator than one on a space -you carried it with you.
Infinity sign... and...
"Caelum Saepio." West repeated dutifully. "Caelum Saepio!" He also practiced holding the incantation and intent in his mind without saying it out loud so he could practice it non-verbally after he'd got it down.
Caelum Saepio!
.... idly he wondered if you could use it to insulate a toilet seat. Those had become problematically cold in recent weeks.

Ascanius hated that this spell wasn't worthless, like he believed the Professor to be. (Pretty face envy did weird things to him, mostly in the grumpy department). But even he had to admit that this spell would be a welcome one since the castle and grounds had decided to hold the seventh years captive, yeah?
He jotted down the spell quickly and watched the rest of his classmates 'round the room trying to get a proper grasp on it. Seemed simple enough.
His wand lazily drew an infinity sign over and over again.
Nothing was more tedious then drawing an infinity sign repeatedly.
Lucy had memorized the name of the spell..
Now she had to practice the wand movement..
She started to trace a sideways figure eight..
She tried to concentrate and to trace the wand movement with care..
She wanted to learn this spell because the impossible cold had to finish..
One, two, three..."caelum saepio".. Lucy lost the count how many times she traced the wand movement..

Jasmine was ready for the next step so she took out her wand. Raising it, she slowly made a sideways figure eight movement. That seemed easy enough so she tried it a little faster on her second try.
Over and over again, Jasmine repeated the infinity sign. She did it up high, down low, to her right then to her left. OK. Enough of that. Figuring that she pretty much had the wand movement down, Jasmine stopped and waited for the next instructions.

Now yes, wand movement. Sideways infinity sign. He can do that. Without taking out his wand, Ethan had his wand hand stretched in front of him and practiced the sideways infinity sign like he was conducting a full orchestra. Dramatic, this boy was.
Ethan imagined the room getting warmer as he did the wand movement and wondered momentarily about the other charms that are protecting the castle.

There was an insulating charm. Why hadn't anyone thought about using this charm when the cold weather started? They all had to do the charm several times to get it to work, and even then it might not work because of the cold? Maybe it would work with everyone doing it. At least it might help with smaller areas if it did not work for the whole castle. She could try it on the dormitory. Picking up her quill, she took notes on the charm.
SPOILER!!: notes
Insulation charm
Incantation: Caelum Saepio (CAY-lum SAY-pee-oh)
Wand movement: Sideways figure 8 (infinity sign) over area that you want to insulate. May need to be repeated depending on how large area to be insulated is.
Now to practice the incantation. "CAY-lum SAY-peee-oh. CAY-lum SAE-pee-oh. Caelum Saepio."

Ohhh, so this all made perfect sense now! Sophie had been wondering why the professors couldn't go ahead and do the charm. It made perfect sense, though, that they needed everybody on board to do the charm, so that the effectiveness was much greater. Right. Got it, Professor.
So now it was time to practice the incantation and wand movement--separately. Sophie always did it separately anyway, because...who wanted to practice a brand new charm the first time without being sure of themselves? Not her. With her luck, she might catch herself on fire or something.
Sophie kept her wand in its holster so no such accidents could happen then began practicing in the incantation. "Caelum Saepio," she said aloud. "Caelum Saepio." Then she broke it down to make extra sure she was saying it the way the professor did. "CAY-lum - SAY-pee-oh. Caelum Saepio."
Huh, Nigel knew his middle name and was pretty sure climate was not even a rough translation. Chisel was...he did not know about climate. And that might be why he and Flamsteed get along. Since the famous Flamsteed discovered the constellation Caelum and all.
Fun Facts brought to you by Nigel Barrington.
But whatever he had a spell to learn. "Caelum Saepio". Simple Enough Latin. He did the wand movement enough times with his wand to grasp that quick enough. Infinity Sign.
It would be million times better if they could do this in the Irie Room. Just saying.

Awesome. That was what this Charm was. Just awesome. But why couldn't they have learnt it earlier in the term? It would have saved them the pain of freezing. But better late than never Adi supposed.
Time to practice, yeah? The sooner they all mastered the spell, the sooner they got warm. "Caelum Saepio,'' the third year began his incantation practice. "Caelum Saepio. Caelum Saepio. Caelum Saepio.'' A few times he even broke it down just as it was on the board. It was a simple enough incantation. So, wand movement practice time.
Slytherindor ♛ The Crazytastic Besties ♛ Shan Watson ♛
Okay so now it was time to learn the wand movement. Simon peeked over at his notes, rereading the section that he had jotted down about the movement itself. A sideways figure eight? So basically an infinity sign? He didn't pick up his wand at first and began drawing sideways figure eights randomly in the air.
One sideways figure eight, two sideways figure eight, three sideways figure eight, four sideways figure eight, five sideways figure eight....
Ow....
Simon could feel his hand becoming stiffer by the minute. Was his hand actually cramping from the weather? He shook it out and continued making figure eights..
Twenty sideways figure eight, twenty one sideways figure eight...
He lost count pretty quickly of the number he had reached and so he picked up his wand. Besides, his left hand was beginning to ache. Then with his wand pointed at the nearest wall, he practiced again and again. Once he was happy with his drawing of the infinity sign in the air. He placed his wand down and waited for Fuller to speak again.
It was always wise to practice the wand movement a couple more times. Practice makes perfect and all those other sayings. though Nigel's favorite was. 'We talking about Practice' Fun rant that was. Don't know who the guy was or anything. Back to practice. Infinity Sign with his wand a couple more times until he could hypnotize himself with his wand.
So they would be doing this for homework. Fun that was. Though using this in their dorm was practical and better for the room than making fires in the middle of the dorm.
More practical but less fun.

Zander listened and... attempted to take notes. But Fuller was just going way too fast and there was so much to remember. What did the Cael-cium? Wasn't Calcium in milk? Why would they be talking about Calcium. Wasn't this about the horrible weather? Could Fuller stick to one thing because milk and snow were two completely different things. Sure they were both white but oh-- Did Calcium have something to do with the white snow? Did snow have Calcium? Huhhhhhhh?
Charms is so confusing. Jeez. Just then, Zander felt a poooooke at his side. Kryoh? The first year was just bouncing with excitement and energy and was he going to ask for a hug? Because there was totally a time and place for that, that wasn't in Charms class. The Gryffindor nodded his head slowly "Yeah... You're pretty good...' Wait, CAY-lum? Weren't they supposed to say Calcium?
The confused Gryffindor looked back over to the board and OOOOHHH, so they weren't learning about Calcium then? Ugh. Welp, these notes could get thrown into the rubbish bin on the way out. So much for trying to figure that out... Hmph. "Alright, let me try," he looked at the board as he began because uh, until a minute ago he thought it said Calcium okay? "Caaahhhyyy-SAaahyy-Peee-Oooh?" Was that right? Did he get Kyroh's approval?
"CAY-LUUUUM SAHHY-PEE-OHH!"

The others had many cool ideas. As for her, she couldn't think of many and only thought that it would be best if they found out what it is that's causing this unearthly weather and get rid of it or fix it. Wouldn't that be better? But of course creativity was cool.
That particular charm sounded really cool and handy in this situation. Who knew where they might need it in the future. She might travel to one of the poles at some point. Eeh, not really but it wouldn't hurt to dream.
"Caelum Saepio," It always helped when knowing the meaning of the words. Somehow it made the charm stick more. "CaY-lum Sae-pioo," The lot of them looked a little bit silly moving their mouths like that. But education was more important was it not?
"Caae-lum ," Pause. "Saepio," that should do it.

This spell didn't seem too hard. For the most part at least. The wand movement seemed okay, though the incantation was a bit tricky. Mostly the spelling. But thankfully she didn't technically need to know how to spell it in order to say it, yeah? Yeah. So hopefully this would go okay.
"CAY-lum SAY-pee-oh," Penelope muttered slowly as she scribbled it down, glancing up at the board a few times to make sure she'd written it down correctly. "CAY-lum...SAY-pee-oh... SAYpeeoh. SAYpeeohhh." Yeah, she was totally getting the hang of it. "CAYlum SAYpeeoh. Caelum Saepio. Caelum Saepio."
That sounded good to her. So now for the wand movement.
