Another cold day in the castle has come and you'll find that the Charms classroom is no exception. You can see your breath and you're probably shivering, but today's lesson will certainly (hopefully) help against that. Despite the frost and snow on the windows and the icicles hanging from various places, your professor is still in a somewhat good mood.
Professor Fuller is standing, leaning against his desk at the front of the classroom, bundled up in a coat and gloves, waiting for you all to arrive. So come on in and take a seat, so we can begin!

What was Tag doing to keep warm? Was that a safe question to ask, Fuller? Anyway, Tag answered, he pretty much had everyone else's answers already, but said them nonetheless.
"I've been duplicating all my blankets, been wearing extra layers of clothes, warm clothes..." Obviously. "I've also mostly stayed in the common room and dorm, unless I need to get food, use the toilet or go to class. And, lastly, I've just been drinking a lot more hot chocolate." The hot chocolate could be thanked at towards Lotus.
Kind of weird that he was drinking HOT CHOCOLATE this far into the year. Hogwarts was in season for hot chocolate, but Tag figured the rest of Scotland or England was not having hot chocolate. Stupid weather.

Marigold noticed Mitch sliding into a seat, yes she did. She gave him a finger wiggle, before the professor started talking and she looked back at the front How did she keep warm? Well, first off, not successfully…
"Besides blankets and warm clothing and food… the hot air charm and the occasional Blue flames charm…" She had only used that one once or twice, plus she didn't know the real name of it. But it was kind of working.
Hazel shivered again. It was so cold! It certainly shouldn't be this cold this time of year, she thought. It felt like they went to Drumstrings, or Durmstrung, or whatever the school was called.
"I've been using the hot air charm, also. And I've been wearing lots of warm clothing and blankets and drinking hot cocoa and sitting by the fire in the common room," Hazel answered. She hoped it warmed up soon.

charms, charms to keep warm... Mackenzie blushed she had just been staying wrapped up because even a minute out of her coats and blankets almost froze her to the bone. Instead of answering the question she curled farther into her coat.

Maddie was STILL shivering but she brightened up JUST a BIT when she saw Dima all mummified in scarfs and layers of clothing. HE was probably warmer than HER, that was for sure. She'd be TOTALLY okay with him lighting something on fire in THIS class, did he KNOW? It'd make it warmer in here, at least. ALSO, HI FRECKLES! Maddie had seen him too and HE got a finger wiggle and a smile. 'SUP.
As for what Maddie had been doing to keep warm, "Mostly blanket burritos, 'Fessor. Bluebell flames too, like KYROH said." Hiiiii Kyroh! She liked those flames very much, mhm. "I'd snuggle MY kneazle too if I didn't think he'd scratch my eyes out. He's a bit moody, Zeus is." SHRUG.

Benny absently set out his belongings as Fuller greeted him and the rest of the class. "Hi..." he echoed Adi as he realised his mistake of not greeting his friend. Oops...must have been brain freeze. The third year shivered as he waited for class to begin which thankfully wasn't long. As work to help their situation was mention, he was a little unsure. After all, professors had mentioned help for the aging last term and only gotten cover-ups and temporary solutions.
They would see what developed.
This dragon was very cold-blooded and as such...much prefered heat to what they were getting. Snow in the castle? Brrrrrrrrr. Now as for what he had been doing to keep as warm as he could, it wasn't much different then the rest of the class seemed to be doing. "Extra clothes...hot beverages..." Cue look at Angel. "...fire." Oh and a spell or two like someone else had mentioned. Benny couldn't help but hope what the professor had to teach them would be better.

There were loads of ways to keep warm, if one was creative and willing to occasionally look a bit silly. Like wearing six or seven layers, or sitting around in the common room wearing a hat and scarf, or trying to read a text or write an essay wearing gloves. And at this point, Mo just didn't care... he wanted to be warm.
"I've been using Incendio to keep the fire roaring in the fireplace in the Common Room, Professor." Which only did so much, but it was a good place to start.
Hmmm the professor was wondering how they were staying warm. Kace wasn't using anything magical. He was doing it old fashioned. He raised his hand and commented, "I am just using my common room fire and blankets and hot cocoa." he nodded. He sounded lame but it was the truth. He knew about the Ventus charm because Bellaire taught them. He remembered that class. But he heard other answers and knew he wasn't the only one.
Fuller not caring about her wardrobe's clash of houses, Sophie loosened the two scarves the tiniest bit while she busied herself with laying out her class materials to take notes. Freezing outside, freezing inside, snowfall, yes, all dreadful things. Since they all had super good ideas on ways to stay warm already, what kind of lesson could Fuller have planned for them today? Were they going to go be like a big army and cast a charm on the walls on every floor of the school to add insulation? Was there such a thing that existed? And if it did, why hadn't the professors already done that a long time ago? Certainly it was just as unbearable to live in such temperatures for them as it was for the students.
Needless to say, Sophie was quite curious to see what they'd be learning today.
She didn't have an answer to Fuller's question that someone hadn't already said, though, and instead found herself wishing she was back in the common room, bundled up in four or five blankets by the fire and cuddling with friends. Or hiding out in her dormitory with CB and Rumba in their blanket fort. Basically, she was currently grumpy that it was socially unacceptable to start cuddling someone for warmth in the middle of class.
More like what wasn't Jun using to keep warm? Have you noticed what he was currently wearing?
"Heating charm, eating hot foods, extra layers of clothing and blankets," Not to mention possibly burning his boring textbooks in the common room fire. And clinging onto Connor because body heat. Though the Gryffindor would shove him off sometimes. Such a rude bestie to let his Ravenclaw friend freeze in his tower. Or anywhere in the castle.

Agatha listened to some of her classmates answers and frowned a bit. She hadn't used any magic because she kind of didn't know how - ONLY BECAUSE she hadn't practised any of those spells, OKAY? Hmph - but she had some ideas of answers when she heard some of the ones already given.
She pursed her lips when a few students mentioned snuggling their kneazles. If only Lady would let Agatha cuddle her. But she wouldn't. "Lots of hot chocolate. Well, not lots, but some." Lots of hot chocolate wasn't even healthy. "And also snuggling my cat Lady." She chose to lie, nodding her head. No one really knew Lady didn't let her snuggle her, so they'd all believe whatever she told them.

The fire in the fireplace was a nice touch, but was it enough? It was too soon to tell, but AJ was still freezing so her hands were still in her pockets. It seemed like all of her answers had already be said, but she was going to say them anyways. "My best line of defense is hot chocolate, and lots of it. The other day I started twitching after my tenth cup, but I was so warm that it didn't really matter." Oh. "I used the Ventus charm too on account of that is one of the few spells that will work for me." She wasn't going to waste energy on anything else.
"If you roll yourself into a big blanket burrito while fully clothed you get some warmth too." With a cup of cocoa. Should she mention that again? Did anybody wanna discuss the benefits of cocoa with her?

Okay, so thanks for the fire, but...couldn't he have done that before class? That way, they wouldn't have had to walk into a freezer, pretty much, and the place would already be warm all over. But meh, at least he was lighting a fire now, so that had to count for something.
But just as that thought had left her mind, another thought entered it. Why were they JUST learning a charm to keep the cold outside the castle? They should have gathered the troops a while back, taught the charm, and had this place warm long before now. Sigh. She guessed she was just in a bad mood.
So what had she been doing to keep warm?
"Definitely the Heating Charm," she said, raising her hand. "Then I've been using as many blankets as I can find." Yes, blankets...lots and lots of blankets. "Oh, and sitting by the fire, too." In the common room, she always made sure to take the couch as close to the fire as possible.
New friend Ethan was here, and Toby grinned at the boy as he sat beside him, giving a nod of agreement to the statement about the cold. He'd have attempted to engage him in a further discussion, but it never seemed smart to try and make conversation at the start of a lesson. Tobias had a way of getting carried away when he spoke. Still, Sophie got a smile all of her own when she came to sit behind him, and a curious look directed at the different coloured scarves. But soon enough, Charms was happening.
Charms and magical items? Oh no, Toby hadn't actually been utilising magic at all to help stay warm. Now Fuller actually mentioned it, that seemed like the obvious thing to do, but not without reason had Toby been voted as one of the students most likely to live without magic.
Even though he didn't have an answer, the fidgety Toby raised his hand anyway, figuring if he tried to answer, it heightened his chances of staying focused on the lesson.
"Haven't been using any," the Hufflepuff piped up. "Just lots of layers. And running around a lot. Works pretty well for me. Good way to keep busy when we're all-" trapped "-inside."

Mo got a nod and a smile back. He was certainly dressed for the weather unlike Nigel and see Fuller understood. Only when your face was frozen could you enjoy class. Though the paying attention part would be focused on your face because it is frozen.
Which reminded Nigel. He should go to Flammy and make him transfigure his clothes into that awesome snowsuit. He would definitely help considering he was suiting up. Though that did not help right now. Only fire could help that.
"Jamming out to awesome music and making fires. The muggle way is more fun if you have the time."
One thing Nigel excelled at was making fires and only awesome music got jammed to. So he did not really need to say that.

Yep. West was here and he was quiet for reasons. And he also was trying to decide if he had the guts to ask Fuller something after class... but hadn't quite reached a verdict yet. So sitting silently was the thing.
The former Slytherin Captain wasn't all wrapped up like most people though, because he was taking advantage of spells to keep warm.
He put his hand up.
"I charm my clothes to retain heat, and if I need a quick blast of warmth then the hot-air charm works well with less need to worry about burning like a flame might." Except bluebell flames of course. "And there's already an atmospheric charm in my dorm so... its not too bad in there." Really. The cold would be a HUGE issue for him if he didn't take advantage of what he'd learned, because he was so skinny there wasn't any body fat on him to help insulate...
But yeah. That was it for magical methods anyways.

After a few moments, she raised her hand and answered, "I have been drinking plenty of hot chocolate and tea, eating heaps of warm food and covering myself up in blankets or warm clothes like a nice warm jumper that has been enchanted with a Heating Charm."

Hi Grayson! Dima's scarf and multiple jumpers were doing the warming up trick for now, but if he needed help, the older boy knew what was coming. Right? Surely he'd done warm up hugs before? The Ravenclaw was sure his idol knew EVERYTHING, so really, he was just awaiting a cold moment. Yep.

Uh, charms? Layla hadn’t been using those to stay warm, mostly because the effort needed to cast them way out weighed the time they lasted. And in this weather, she didn't think it was wise to expend that kind of energy for that when she needed it to just get out of bed in the mornings. But she wasn't going to point that out.
She had planned to keep quiet on this question, but then people were mentioning muggle ways of keeping warm and one had even mentioned muggle ways being more fun, so......."I've been using this electric Snuggie that my mom had charmed to work amongst magic and sent before the owls escaped," thank you, Ms. Buffay "and adding extra layers when needed." Like this jacket. "Plus, I've been eating a lot of soups, stews and chillis and drinking lots of hot tea." Basically, the same things everyone else was doing, aside from the Snuggie.

How she was keeping warm? Everything the professor mentioned. Leah was almost always wrapped in thick coats and blankets which made her look fat. Not to mention the fire in their common room and dormitory. "I don't use anything magical." The Hufflepuff said, raising her hand, her fingers wriggling so that they would not literally freeze. She could seriously live without magic, but would probably die from the cold. "Oh except Incendio, maybe." Leah added, thinking. She always felt SO happy when they used fire in Potions class. Warm.

Felix was lucky too, he had thick fur and no classes so he could spend his day by the fireplace until she collected him for them to find something to do. The life of a kneazle was so simple. Taking a second to lower her scarf from covering half of her face, she replied with, "I-I hadn't thought of what c-charms that c-could help..w-without burning d-down the castle..B-But I'd g-grown accustomed to bun-bundling with lots of blankets & my c-cat..Sebastian.." Although, snuggling with Sebastian just meant him sleeping on her head, he at least managed to keep her head warm like a nice fluffy winter hat.

”Yes, plenty of layers is good.” He nodded at all of those who gave answers regarding layering clothing and wearing blankets. Poor kids were probably wearing twenty pounds of clothes each.

Maddie considered heat and what the castle could use to produce more of it. After a minute or two, she raised her hand. "Magical sauna, Professor." Hold back your applause, classmates. Maddie already KNEW how genius she was. "Or, well, my mum has talked about INSULATION before. Is there a way to magically insulate the castle so the cold is kept OUT and the warmth is kept IN?"
..They could always EAT more and build up some fat. THAT might help them stay warm. Was their a CHARM to give them blubber or something?

The little Ravenclaw girl had the right idea. Entrapment. An entrapment enchantment. There were a multitude of spells they could use to keep the area warm it was just the matter that it was so fleeting. The ball of drab and dark laundry that was Cutty Mordaunt raised his hand. "There are protective charms which keep things locked in so to speak. We could use one of those in conjunction with an atmospheric charm as was mentioned earlier. Booht,..." And here was the problem, as Fuller hadn't used a plural in the question. "There isn't really one single charm for a job like this, is there?"
But so long as they required compiled effort, Cutty was feeling partial to potions at the moment and their related effects. "Yew could try ingesting warmth with potions and things like fever fudge." Dilluted of course if the formula was more than what you were looking for.

These were too many questions. And Kyroh was TRYING to pay attention but it was hard because he kind of didn't care. He GUESSED he should care. Because WARM and stuff but couldn't the professor just MAKE them warm and be done with it?
Considering it was charms and all, he DID wanted to do good in it to show his mum but.....
Nope. Too cold to care.
INSTEAD he just clapped at Maddie's answer because YUP that sounded right. And after a moment he raised his hand anyways. "A hugging room." Yeah. Plus hugs kept you warm. "Hugging is magic cause it's a gesture of love and love is magic sir." THE GREATEST MAGIC OF ALL. Though he didn't know any love!hug charms.
