The need to dress warmly is much higher on the morning of the combined lesson. It seems Winter has come much earlier this year, as the air is chilly and thin and there's a bit of a biting breeze that occasionally rolls through. The ground is crunchy with frost and the occasional few snowflakes fall from the cloudy sky. When you approach the Black Lake, you will find that it has completely frozen over, with the help of some charms performed by your Charms Professor. You will also find that there are a couple dozen winged horses lined up on the side of lake, with small carriages beside them. Some of the students may notice behind the two professors is one Thestral. Though, some of the students may not notice it at all.
Fuller is standing beside Professor Thompson by the lake, all decked out in his winter clothes, hands in his pocket with a warm scarf folded tight around his neck. Feel free to greet your handsome professors. You may stand, or you may take a seat on one of the many padded, soft blankets, provided by Professor Thompson, that are laid out on the ground for you if you get too cold.
OOC: Class has now begun! If you’re just arriving, feel free to jump right in, but just pretend like you’ve been here all along!

What? Now they were pairing up? Hayden's curiosity about what they were doing was growing by the second. She was excited to get over there and find out, but first she needed a partner. "I wonder what kind of crazy thing they're gonna make us do," he said with a chuckle.
Yay partner! He wasn't alone. He could work with someone. Today was actually a really good day. He grinned. Zander was the kid's name, yeah? That was a really cool name. "Nice to meet you, Zander," he replied with a friendly smile. He shrugged his shoulders when he heard Zandar tell him wonder what kind of thing that they were going to make them do. Simon laughed and nodded. "Me too. Always expect the unexpected," he whispered back and awaited further instruction from the Professors.

Sophie finished practicing the charm just as the professor called them to attention. Practical portion...and they needed a partner. Looking around, Sophie eyed Caleb and started to call out to him. But BOO--he'd already snagged some Ravenclaw girl. Merlin--even Cutty and Beverly had partners by now.
"Does anybody still need a partner?!" she called out.
They were meant to be heading to the frozen lake by now, but since Sophie had no partner, she didn't move. Helloooooo, partner! Wherefore art thou?

Kace was looking around and noticed the little first year Hayden from the Potions assignment talking to her. He smiled and nodded. "Yes I do need a partner. The name is Kace..." he said extending his hand.
Right. It was just a stupid myth. She probably shouldn't have asked that. It is considered unlucky for someone to have witnessed another one's death... Beverly gulped and nodded. It WAS unlucky and...she was doing that thing again. She was numbing her feelings. It's gotten easier to do so.
Shaking herself out of her thoughts, she put on a brave face, as if none of this was affecting her, and turned her gaze toward Professor Fuller. Numb. Besides, there were winged horses and she HAD to learn stuff and...chill. Taking a deep breath she repeated the charm in her head. Fixate. Easy peasy.
"Fixate," she tried aloud. It was pretty simple, yeah? Being a perfectionist, the Slytherin tried it some more. "Fixate...Fix-ate...Fixate!"
Beverly was tempted to practice the wand movement when Professor Fuller spoke again. Were they going to get to pet the winged horses? RIDE THEM? It'd cheer her up a bunch. But why partners? She worked better alone. BAH.
Either way, she stood to follow the professors and glanced around--
Cutty Mordaunt said what?
Beverly was about to break out into her little speech of how she was no ones. She belonged to NO ONE. She was her own person and...well, it went on and on, but she was a clever girl. And it was Cutty.
Dusting her robes, she shrugged a shoulder. Of course, he wanted her. Ha! "Sure," she said coolly. Marisol too? Sure, why not? The girl was okay in Beverly's book so far. "Keep that up and you'll scare her away." She smirked. No. Don't wiggle those eyebrows, Cutty Mordaunt.
He ceased the gesture to snort then looked in the direction from where the comment had come. "She'd not afraid." He said as if he knew it. "Yer not afraid are you, Marisol?"

He was still trying to talk around his scarf when the class erupted into partner searching, and suddenly Dima was lost. Terrifying Lex, Marcus Orion, and Grayson were out, as was Maddie. And in all the commotion, he couldn't even SEE Kyroh. But who else in their right mind would want to put up with him?
When he heard an offer, the first year wasted no time rushing over to the girl on his little legs. "Me!"
Yes? Yes? Okay, yes.

Yes? Yes? Okay, yes.
Sophie shifted from one foot to the other as she searched the area for a partner. It was kind of awkward asking for a partner and then waiting around to see if anybody accepted. It made her feel lame, like she was begging for friends or something.
She was starting to feel like an oddball, when some kid suddenly ran up to her and excitedly accepted her offer. "Oh, okay, cool!" she said. Pause. "I'm Sophie Newell." ...and whooooo are you?
She nodded her head in the direction of the frozen lake, which was where they were meant to go after they'd partnered up. "Come on. Let's go join the others," she said.

Nigel was not in the mood for riding winged horses or whatever they would be doing. He already did something similar with Alice in Runes a previous term. Maybe not winged. But similar enough. He was just being difficult. He was not going to go looking for a partner or anything. He was too cold and not in the mood.
He decided to stay in the back and non verbally cast the hot air charm on himself. Should have done this before class started.
Soo worth it.

"Hey Marisol! Want to join me and Beverly Wayne and be on the best team that ever this class shall see?" He asked the little first year wiggling his eyebrows a bit for...effect?
Oh, Cutty! The guy from the House table. He and Beverly were in Slytherin. Marisol's eyes rested on their familiar faces. She'd be on their team. It would be...interesting, as long as Cutty was there.
"Okay," Mari agreed willingly. She was intrigued by the eyebrow wiggling. This boy was quite a character. It probably wouldn't be great to be on his bad side, and Beverly was pleasant, for a Slytherin.

Beverly didn't seem that excited by Cutty. The first year took note of her peer's coolness factor. So far, so good. And Mari wasn't scared of anything!

Marisol did a double take. She hadn't been processing the words right. Scared? Mari took deep offence. The eleven year-old might not be a Gryffindor, but she was just as brave as them. It sometimes went to the point where it was foolish.
"'Course not!" the Snake scoffed lightly. "Do I need show?" Because she'd prove it if needed. Marisol folded her arms and tilted her head to the side.

Zander showed off his pearly whites with an easy smile. This guy was nice enough. Hopefully he was better at all this spell work stuff than Zander was though. Zander let out a chuckle at Simon's next statement. Yeah, that was right for sure. With not one, but TWO crazy professors running things and a frozen lake, who knew where this class would lead to. Speaking of the frozen lake, Zander noticed that everyone else had already started to head over there. OOps. They should probably make a move on. "Let's head over, yeah?" he said nodding towards the frozen lake. This would be... interesting.

"Of course I do." This was her perfect opportunity to show her sister that she did still have time for her. The first year linked her arm with her sister's arm and drug her over to where the professors were. "I hope we get to ride them." Maybe they were going to use the charm on each other, you know to 'place' them on the horse. Heh.
Angel beamed at her sister. "I'm glad." Angel had missed working with her sister and she couldn't wait to see what was going on. "I'm not sure we will, I hope we will too but why do we need to know the spell Fixate if we are riding on them?" Angel was confused about that. "Surely if we were riding them then we could do it without knowing that spell." Angel said truthfully, all they had to do was say stop or something like that right.

Penelope was still practicing the incantation until the professor announced that they would need a partner. Looking around, Penelope saw that almost everyone had a partner. She noticed the Ravenclaw prefect (Nigel) in the back without a partner, so she walked over to him.

The weather is insane.
He's used to the cold all right, but something felt...wrong. Looking up at the professor, Ethan nodded to show that he understood the next instruction.
Find a partner.
Doesn't matter if he ends up working alone, but yeah. Just in case someone wanted another set of hands. And brain.
He wasn't going to ask out loud this time. Effort, you know? Instead he walked back to where an older boy (Nigel) was standing, who looked like he's not in the mood to take participate in the activity. He did get picked though, but Ethan stayed beside him because...warm air and all. Heh.

People really did jump onto all the questions. All Lily had been doing was keeping herself warm, both by quietly humming and occasionally casting another charm on herself when the first wore off. She’d been listening to the discussion as well, her green eyes flickering between Professor Fuller and the winged horses. The thestral discussion hadn’t gotten much of a reaction, since she couldn’t see it, but knowing it was there, the disappearing apple wasn’t notable. Besides, nothing really could surprise her at Hogwarts. If anything strange had, she knew she would have constantly been in a state of shock. It was easier to just observe and listen, switching over to murmuring the Placement charm as they’d been told to practice. Accents didn’t seem to matter much when it was a basic word. “Fixate. Fixate, fixate, fixate…”

Then, instead of moving on to wand movement and learning the whole charm, they’d been told to partner up and head over to the horses. She’d almost laughed as everyone had suddenly burst into action and paired up, considering the movement had to have warmed them up. She’d almost forgotten about herself, though, and after a moment glanced around to see if anyone else was still partnerless. Worst case scenario, she’d have to work alone. She’d been around horses before. They’d been normal, regular horses, but she figured that the concept was still the same. They were all creatures, and she was okay with creatures.
She’d noticed a boy huddled up near Nigel, however. A little Claw was speaking with the prefect, and she’d boosted herself up of the ground and followed. “Hey. Did you need a partner?,” she asked the boy. A Slytherin, it looked like. “Either that or a hot air charm or two,” she added, smiling a little to show she was joking. Although that wouldn’t have been turned down if anyone had asked her.

And seriously, Simon should see this because it proved his theory that girls here in Hogwarts are a lot prettier, but Josette is the prettiest. Just saying. He wasn’t going to tell the older student that though. Compliments are good, yes, but not right away. He’s not that stupid.
Ethan looked at the older student and grinned at her. “Yes I do!” Grins for you miss. “…and yeah a hot air charm would be nice too.” Ethan hugged himself and shivered a bit. “I’m Ethan, by the way. Hi!” he got his hand out and waved at the older girl. Shaking hands isn’t a great idea right now since his digits are all cold. “So…shall we?” he asked and prepped himself to follow Professors Fuller and Thompson.

It hadn’t taken too long to get an answer, which was good because Lily had been tempted to start bouncing in place a little to keep warm. The charms she’d cast on her robes were good, but they only worked partway. Movement would have only kept her warmer, but she’d grinned back at the boy as he’d spoken. “I figured it might. I’ve been casting it on myself since the lesson started,” she admitted, turning her wand on him and casting another one while he’d been introducing himself. He’d seemed to be a bit more active by now, but still cold. It really was amazingly cold out by the lake, and she wondered if it was because of the lake being frozen over. That had to have been magical.
“Hi,” she responded with a laugh. “I’m Lily. It’s nice to meet you Ethan.” There, introductions were done, and she’d nodded as he’d prepped himself to start heading over to the carriages. “Yep. We shall. At least walking should keep us warmer,” she added, falling alongside him as they moved. She felt like the hot air charms might stop working as well if she depended on them, so more ideas were better. They could hope that whatever activity was planned would keep them moving, too. Anything was better than becoming a human popsicle.

He really should learn that charm, real soon. He doesn’t want his body parts to start falling off because of the cold. The weather back in Durmstrang was the worst…but he’s starting to believe that he might be wrong. Hmm. Ethan eyed her wand pointing at him, and sighed when he felt the warmth seep through his layers of clothing. What’s more impressive? She did a non-verbal. It will take him years to achieve that, but he will someday. Mhmm.
“Pretty name you’ve got. It’s nice to meet you too, Lily!” Ethan beamed as he fell on her side and started walking. Yes. Movement will help them warm up from within. “Thanks for the hot air charm. I can now feel my nose and ears again.” She’s a life-saver! Did she know? “Can you teach me how to do that? I reckon it’ll come in handy real soon.” He said and quickly scratched the back of his head, and jammed his hand back in his pocket.

"Fixate," Arista tried aloud. It was pretty simple! Just in case though the Gryffndor gave it a few more tries, "Fixate...Fix-ate...Fixate...Fixate!"
Okay so that was fun but could they do something now. Wait what partners?? She looked around, anyone? Anyone? Sigh guess she should start asking around. Hearing someone speak up she looked at him and dang someone snagged him. Guess she actually had to say something, she shouted out, thankful that she could be loud when needed. "Anyone need a partner still?" Because she did.
FINALLY.
Practical Portion of the lesson. Oh and she need a partner. She looked around to find someone who still need one and it seem everybody already had a partner then the first year noticed her fellow housemate and roomies. "Royal!" WAVE. "Want to partner up?" The Professor didn't say they need to partner up with an older student, right? So same year partner was okay, yes?

Toby looked around at his classmates, trying to find someone who wasn't already paired up. Was Soph nearby? Or perhaps another friend he hadn't seen for a while? Or maybe even a NEW friend? Anyone would be a good idea.
Well, Toby thought to himself with a not-exactly-small twinge of guilt. Almost anyone.
...
Deciding it was best not to think about that, Toby resumed looking around for a partner. Sooner he found one, sooner they could go see the horses.

Seemed like they were about to start with practical part. FUN! Not that the previous part was boring, but surely everyone was excited to get involved with the winged horses!
Was it going to be a race?!!!
Probably not though, it surely would be something to do with the spell they just practiced. It still would be fun no doubt.
And now to find a partner. The snake cast a look around, mostly everyone got partnered up. How did they do it that fast? There must be other partner-less ones remaining, she thought and hoped.
THERE WAS ONE!
Stepping closer to the Hufflepuff, whose name was being searched for in her brain, she cleared her throat, "Would you like to partner up ?" And hi, did she have to say hi? Probably. But now it'd sound stupid, because you say hi at first. Anyway, the important bit was whether Toby would agree to partner up with her. She contemplated adding that she was GOOD with horses. Just in case, but that might sound pathetic, so she decided against it.

Her search failed her, but she saw Cris standing with a girl she didn't know and she made her way over to where they were standing. No point sitting and waiting for a nonexistent partner, right? She grinned at the older boy who had SAVED her from the blizzard, trying not to blush, and gave him a bright, "Hello! I don't have a partner, may I join you lot?" Ha. Take that mum, she had said 'may' without even having to be nagged about it. She eyed the girl standing with Cris curiously and extended a hand to shake hers. "Hi, I'm Norah!" she said with an even wider grin. She deserved a good smile considering Norah had just hijacked her group. Eh, they were all friends here right? Before she could stop herself, she blurted out "You'rereallypretty," because it was TRUE and its hard for excitable eleven year olds to keep their mouths shut about true things, yep. She hoped the girl wouldn't mind her being there, though, because YAY NEW FRIENDS.

Cris was waiting with Jasmine when someone familiar approached them. It was Norah, the girl he worked with in Transfiguration. He glanced over at Jasmine and then back at Norah. Smiling down at her, Cris greeted her.
"Hi Norah, it's good to see you again. You don't have a partner?" Cris frowned in dismay when she told them that. "You want to join Jasmine and I? Sure I don't mind" Cris turned to look at Jasmine. He was sure that she wouldn't either but didn't want to answer for her.
"Norah, this is Jasmine," Cris introduced both girls to each other.
Josie's attention was directed towards a girl, who was wearing red robes, she was Gryffindor. And not only that, she was first year too. And her name was Lucy. She was even asking if Josie wanted to partner up. Josie gave a small smile before she nodded her head. "Alright..Lucy.." OH wait. "M-My name's Josette.."
Nice to meet you, Josette!
Do you think we have the practice the new spell?..I'm not very good with the incantations...But whatever I hope to warm up a bit because I'm dying of cold..And Lucy smiled at her new friend!
