A thestral? Adelaide looked behind the professors, but nothing there. That was probably a good thing. She wondered who in the group could see it though. Any of friends... Okay. What girl didn't love horses to some extent? And she had read a bit on the animals in a couple of her books. Addi raised her hand. "There are granians. They are grey and very fast." |
Wait, there was a THESTRAL there?? No fair, they shouldn't bring cool animals that not EVERYONE could see. Quite frankly, Caleb didn't WANT to be able to see them, since that would mean that he had witnessed someone dying, and that was depressing and would probably scar him for life. Why couldn't thestrals just be like...normal? Still, he raised his hand to give a breed of winged horses for the professor. "There's the Granian breed. They're gray and known for being super fast," he explained. Was that where their name came from? Their color? Hmm... |
Ascanius couldn't see the Thestral. Which was a relief, yeah? Not only was it a morbid kind of animal, but, no doubt, the fact that other students could see the them might bring some of his peers down. Luckily, he wasn't plagued with crippling memories of death and such. So everyone else could deal with that who had those demons. Ahem. Anyway, as to the question of winged horses, he knew a bit. Only 'cause he had spent the summer crashing at Atticus'...though he had never really inquired about the horses. Ever. 'Cause he didn't care. Now, more then anything, he wished he had asked. Not that he would have spoken up anyway. But he did take a listen to what everyone else had to say about them, yeah? |
Bree felt a bit uneasy about this lesson. It was hard for her to believe there was an invisible winged horse next to the professor that you could only see if you had seen and remembered death. Though other people took account of it being there and if is true those poor souls. She tried to alleviate her mind of the morbidity as she heard the next question asked and she let her mind slip to thinking about that question. She heard quite a few answers and had to think harder to come up with an answer not mentioned but in time she did. She raised her hand and said, "My mum used to read to me lots of fanciful tails of mythical creatures as a child and one creature I remember fondly is a unipeg, or a unicorn that could fly. They were crazy amazing powerful creatures that were wild and free, no one could tame them, and they could take on most anything" |
HOLY. FREAKING. MERLIN! Grayson's blue eyes widened as he watched chunks of an apple disappear into nothingness. That was freaky, mkay? MERLIN. Despite this, he kept his eyes glued to the chunks of apple, almost as if he was mesmerised by it. It would help to actually be able to see the animal for himself because it would be brilliant, even if the creatures were gentle. Major put off. Though, looking over at the board, they were only meant to be seen by people who had seen death. Huh. That was depressing. Shrugging, the fourteen year old made a few notes about the creatures. Winged Horses, man. Some were known wizard killers! He liked THOSE. And speaking of winged horses, someone over there mentioned Abraxans, which reminded him of his previous school. They had had those over at Beauxbatons. Not mentioning THAT, nope. He did have something to contribute soooooo up went the hand. "Don't you have to keep winged horses hidden with charms and whatnot? If you're going to keep them, that is. Because, I mean, a winged horse in your back yard or a paddock is going to attract quite a lot of attention." Also. LOL. Piersie. OH MAN. He was going to remember THAT. |
Text Cut: Thompson Cutty was about to laugh outloud when Alexa mentioned the Thestral. But doing so would probably ruin the effect of her practical joke upon the class at large. So he held it in by way of smug and knowing smile. This was gonna be sweet. This was gonna be... What the?!?! Professor Thompson was in on it too, was he? Was he...? Oh, hey look how that apple is...eating up itself... Cutty was disappointed that this was not an elaborate hoax being put on the class. It might have made him forget about the cold. Instead, his shivering arm wrote in crinkled writing the notes about the thestrals as well as other types of flying horses. One had to have seen death then? Cutty looked over at the Gryffindor Prefect and seriously considered if she'd ever killed anyone. You know, by accident or whatever she would've said at the time. |
As Sophie listened to the discussion, a thought came to mind--what was the point of the Placement Charm anyway? Unless you were placing something really high and out of reach, couldn't you do it much faster by hand? Shrug. Sophie couldn't see the thestral, but she took the professor's word that it was there. Hiii, thestral I can't see! So what other types of winged horses were out there? Sophie raised her hand. "Aethonan," she said, "which is a breed mainly seen in Great Britain and Ireland." Facts. She knew 'em. |
There was a Thestral there?! Obviously Adi couldn't see it and he knew that very well but that didn't stop him from craning his neck trying to see the creature. Though he wanted to see it, he wasn't too fussy given the reason why some people could see them. So other Winged Horses? Adi raised his hand. "There's Abraxans. They're very powerful palominos.'' Yep, Abraxans sounded super cool because of their strength. |
SPOILER!!: Pegasus Fantasy SPOILER!!: Correct answers SPOILER!!: No response SPOILER!!: Unicorns SPOILER!!: Hippogriffs SPOILER!!: Others + Questions "Good.. Since most of you at least have the basics on their appearance and some of their abilities. We'll move straight on to the most important of today." Then tapping the board again, to add more notes. "We not only have the Thestrals, but a whole set of visible Winged Horses nearby waiting on us." Quote:

SRSLY? Piers GLARED at Javy for a SOLID five seconds before returning to his deadpan stare across the lake. He was so going to punch that guy when this lesson was over. The students were LAUGHING at him and his dumb nickname. It was one thing to have Cassie call him that. Javy? That was a different story. SIGH. Quote:
Without saying a word, Professor Fuller discreetly used his wand to summon the kid’s bag of beans. The bag plopped right into his hand and he CASUALLY started eating them. Ooh, grapefruit. Yummy. Quote:
”Of course,” he started. ”If you’re in a muggle-populated area, you’d want to keep all of your magical items and tendencies hidden, wouldn’t you? The easiest solution would be to live in a wizarding community that already has the protective enchantments so muggles can’t come across your winged horse, but there are ways to keep them hidden if you don’t.” Some they should know already from previous charms and DADA classes. Once he clarified that, he waited for all the students to answer and for Javy to finish his instruction on the winged horses. It was his turn to go again, so Piers grabbed the chalk and started to head towards the board. ”As we discussed, most of you already know this spell’s incantation, so it should be quite easy for most of you older students, and some of you younger ones as well. But we’ll all review, just to make sure we do it right.” Fuller turned to board and wrote down what they needed to know: (FIX - ATE) ”Fixate,” he said out loud, for all the students to hear. ”A very simple charm to pronounce. Two syllables, and it was pronounced just like it read. ”The wand movement can be tricky, but not so long as you know what you’re doing. What you will be doing is using the Placement Charm to fit the bridle onto your winged horse. We will have a chance to practice the wand movement in a few minutes, but right now I just want you all to practice the incantation. Say it out loud a couple times and get used to it.” OOC: Spend the next 16-18 hours practicing the incantation. Just one post is needed. Then we’ll move on to activity! |
Hmmm... nothing to add to her horse answer? Wouldn't a horse technically be another breed since you couldn't be a winged horse without first being a horse? AJ didn't honestly care either way. Meh. The first year was still secretly hoping that they activity would involve her riding a winged horse. Better yet, she would like even more to ride one of those invisible threstral thingys. How cool would it be to float along in the air? The lion kept her fingers crossed. Just a few more steps before it was go time? AJ couldn't handle that. She could still feel her nose so that meant it wouldn't be falling off anytime soon. She listened to the professor go over the spell. Easier incantation to remember ever!!! "Fixate... Fix-ate... Fixate." Annnnd that was all the practice that she needed to do. Could she saddle up the threstral now please? |
Practicing stuff always meant that soon they would be doing actual practical stuff, so Cris was more than eager to practice saying the incantations. So practice he did once he had completed writing his notes down, copying all that was written on the board. Glancing over at Jasmine, he smiled at her as she concentrated deeply on writing down her own notes. "Can I practice with you?" he asked. Yes it was a simple task but he liked doing it with others. |
Winged horses. At least this class wasn't too challenging, considering Hayden had grown up with one side of her family as purebloods. She knew about all the magic stuff, like magical creatures. She'd heard of most of the breeds of winged horses people were talking about, including thestrals though she couldn't see them thank merlin. But she didn't find it that interesting. Until they got to the spell part of the lesson. What? No wand movement yet? That was a vital part of the spell, and Hayden did not like learning only part of it. The incantation was easy, why did they need to practice? "Fixate," she said aloud. See? Simple enough, wand movement please. |
They would be riding the horses?! Weren't they supposed to be avoiding anything that remotely looks like they could even be attempting to play Quidditch, least that crazy who threatened the school hear of it and do something? Right? So, this lesson just seemed to be inviting trouble. Practice the incantation. Right. "Fixate." There, practiced. |
So they would be working on the placement charm and practice using it on the winged horses. Cool. Jasmine took careful notes, writing down the important information shared by the Professors. When Cris asked if they could practice together, Jasmine smiled. "Of course you can practice with me, but I don't think we have a whole lot to do for this first task." Seriously, how many different ways could you say Fixate. Jasmine said, "Fixate". "Fixate, fixate, fixate." Turning to Cris, she said, "I'm good, your turn". |
Adi grinned as Professor Fuller glared at Thompson. Hehe. He liked Fuller's nickname. Too bad he couldn't use it on the man. That would be weird, calling his Professor by his nickname. Well, it was time to get used to the incantation. "Fixate. Fixate. Fixate.'' There. That wasn't so hard. Hurry for easy and simple incantations! Bring on the wand movement, Professor Fuller! |
AHHH SO MUCH INFORMATION. This double class was giving Zander quite the headache. Okay, next time Charms and CoMC should be kept separate because Zander's brain was about to explode. Plus the whole professor tag-team information thing was not going well for third year. First back at Fuller then at Thompson then at Fuller then at Thompson AND TOO MUCH BACK AND FORTH TOO MUCH. Zander tried his best to focus though, and thank goodness something easy. Just practicing an incantation. Not too bad. AND it was only two syllables so that certainly helped. "Fixate... Fixate... Fixate..." Got it. Easy peasy. |
Cris grinned at Jasmine. "Excellent pronunciation of the word, Jasmine," he whispered to her as he then took his turn to practice saying the word. "Fix-ate...Fixate...Fix-ate...." Cris ended. She was right. It was a simple enough task but it was whom he was doing it with that was more important. "I guess we wait to practice the wand movements next," he leaned over and whispered to her.... And not wanting to distract anyone from their concentration, he decided that the waiting would include silence as well. |
Yeah...Benny was paying attention to the charms portion of the lesson. But he was certainly more then glad when they switched to the COMC section. Although the happy expression on his face faultered a little at the topic. He couldn't help but return his attention to the thestral once the creatures professor mentioned it. And with that the memory of why he could see it after all. The Gryffindor shook his head to clear his mind and forced himself to look away, focusing instead on the answers that were given about other winged horses. And then back to Professor Fuller. And back to the placement charm. Ben copied down the incantation was it was written up on the board. Fixate. Definitely one of the easier incantations this year so far. "Fixate...fix-ate...fixate," he mused, practicing it as directed. |
Being the Charms man, it only made sense for Professor He had half a mind to do some research into this. Aaaaaaanyways, he nodded at Fuller as a way of saying thank you. Oh they were getting started? Good. Note taking was too boring and tedious. Since they weren't practising the wand movement, Grayson didn't bother taking out his wand. Instead, he started repeating the spell out loud. "Fix........... ate.......... Fix.......... ate...... Fixate! Fixxxxxxaaateeeeee! Fixate!" Dead simple pronounciation, this was. |
Look at that death stare. It was a thing of beauty. It was like he was fixating on Thompson. Oh look at that. Puns with the spell we were going to practice. Very simple spell was true. It also had many different meaning being it was a real word and all. All the information was alright. Nigel did not really care about the horse part other than which was faster for reasons. But he kind of already knew the answer for trial and error. "Fixate or Fixate on getting Fixate right" That should be enough Fixate's. |
this is one thing Bay didn't like… and it was pronunciation… buttt… this one wasn't to bad so he knew he would be okay.. like when he was in DADA class "Reducto" was easy enough and he got a grip on that one. As he was standing by Lux he turned to her "Hey Cucumber want to practice with me?" he was sure that she wouldn't mind but it was always good to ask as he continued thinking about the spell in his head while he waited. "Fixate…….Fixate….Fix…Ate….Fixate………Fix….Ate" nothing wrong with a little bit of repetition |
Alright so it was onto the practical thing of the lesson. Professor Fuller wanted the class to practice saying the charm. He could do that. It was an easy pronunciation that is for sure. He began saying, "Fix-ate...Fixate...Fixate...Fixate...Fixate...Fixate.. .and Fixate!" There with that Kace was satisfied and knew the incantation pretty well. He was more keen on seeing the winged horses. |
Yes! He had remembered one of the breeds of Winged horses. :woot: As Thompson continued discussing the different type of breeds, Simon quickly wrote the notes that were written on the board. Notes were important. Notes are good. They would be useful for the homework and when for exams came rolling around. Now Professor Thompson had passed the class back to Piersie. Simon was certain that from now on most of the students would tease the Charms Professor with this nickname. Piersie continued speaking about fixate. Fix-ate. Fixate, repeated Simon in his head. He was looking forward to finding out what the wand movement was immediately after the incantation; however, the Professor wished for them to practice the incantation. "Fixate." He repeated it two more times. "Fixate. Fixate." That sounded correct. |
Fixate. Such a dead easy incantation. Not like the stuff they ended up having to learn in Transfiguration. This one was short, and the spell did exactly what it said on the tin. Maybe this was why Charms felt a lot easier to manage. Though... tricky wand movement? Oh boy. Well, one out of two wasn't bad. "Fixate." ... Okay. That was... easy. "Fiiiiiiiiiiiixate." Right. "Fixaaaaaaaaaaaate." Maybe Toby was getting a little carried away now. But he couldn't help it. He was getting all HYPER again. "FixateFixateFixate. Fix. Ate." It... really didn't sound like a word now, so... it was probably best to stop. "Fixate." Starting now. |
