Charms #1 / CoMC #2 by the Black Lake The need to dress warmly is much higher on the morning of the combined lesson. It seems Winter has come much earlier this year, as the air is chilly and thin and there's a bit of a biting breeze that occasionally rolls through. The ground is crunchy with frost and the occasional few snowflakes fall from the cloudy sky. When you approach the Black Lake, you will find that it has completely frozen over, with the help of some charms performed by your Charms Professor. You will also find that there are a couple dozen winged horses lined up on the side of lake, with small carriages beside them. Some of the students may notice behind the two professors is one Thestral. Though, some of the students may not notice it at all. Fuller is standing beside Professor Thompson by the lake, all decked out in his winter clothes, hands in his pocket with a warm scarf folded tight around his neck. Feel free to greet your OOC: Class has now begun! If you’re just arriving, feel free to jump right in, but just pretend like you’ve been here all along! Class Progression: 1. Hello! Let's talk about the Placement Charm. 2 + 3. Responses + What's a Thestral doing here? 4. + 5. Winged Horses + Learning the Placement charm. 6. Pick a partner! 7. Use the charm and go! |
Dressed warmly Cris made his way down to the Black Lake for their combined Charms and Care of Magical Creatures Lesson. With the occastional snowflake falling from the cloudy sky, Cris would stick out his tongue now and then, to catch one of them. When Cris reached the Black Lake he was surprised to see that it was completely frozen over. Yes it had been very cold lately, but not enough to freeze this lake which Cris knew to be very deep. Then Cris smiled. There were Winged Horses including a Thestral grazing behind the Professors. Yes Cris could see them due to having witnessed a tragic accident when he was about ten years old. But Winged Horses? Like Sander, he loved working with them back home and Cris hoped that was what they would be working with today. Walking up to both Professors, Cris greeted both of them with a smile. "Good morning, Professor Fuller, Professor Thompson, although it's cold, it's still nice to be outdoors," he greeted both of them. "Professor Fuller, I'm Cristoffer Strand, a transfer from Durmstrang," Cris introduced himself to his Charms Professor. Tucking his gloved hands into his pocket, Cris then stood aside and waited for the other students to show up for class. Cris figured that he would stand up for now. Standing up was definitely much warmer than sitting down, even if there were soft blanket provided. |
Brr.. It was rather chilly today. He was glad that he had brought a pair of gloves and his Slytherin scarf with him. Simon folded his arms and walked briskly out of the castle and over to the Black Lake. A couple of snowflakes lazily fell. Seeing snow falling during November was a rather odd concept for Simon as he was used to November being much sunnier back home from where he was from. He smiled to himself, thinking of how his family must have been on the beach enjoying the warm weather back in Melbourne. As he made his way over to the Lake, he saw the two Professors standing together. Behind the Professors were a lare amount of winged horses by the Lake with carriages beside them. His eyes widened when he saw a magnificent creature that did not look like the rest of the group. Was that a Thestral? he thought as he glanced at it. He'd only read about them in various textbooks, but he had never encountered one before. It reminded him of the car crash... He pulled himself away from that thought. He couldn't think about it right now. "Hello Professor Fuller. Professor Thompson. I'm Simon Holden," he said as he gave them a shy grin and headed over towards the blankets. He placed his backpack down on the ground gently and tried to look preoccupied by gathering out a textbook. He glanced up and smiled at the other boy who had arrived early then he went back to his business. Simon was a rather awkward child who didn't know how to interact too well with adults. Once he realized that he was one of the first students there, he decided that it would be good to speak to the Professors for they were just people too. "Err.. How are you both on this brisk morning?" he said. |
Wrapping his winter robe closer around his small body , Kevin shivered as he made his way towards the black lake for the joint lesson of Charms and CoMC. He pulled his the hat over his head to keep his head warm from the falling snowflakes that fell on top of the piece of clothing. Reaching the lake, the Gryffindor was slightly suprised that it was frozen over completely. Had it been with the help of magic or was it all natural? Whatever it was, it was cool. "Are we going to iceskate?!" he asked as he turned to the two Professors. Not saying a hello because who cared about hello's? "on...winged horses?" Well, are they? |
What in the name of merlin was up with the WEATHER?! There was even bits of snow falling on him. Talk about freaking weird. Mumbling to himself, Grayson pulled his scarf tighter around his neck and folded his arms across his chest as he made his way down towards the lake. This was ridiculous. They'd better be doing something fun in the lesson otherwise unnecessarily battling the cold wasn't going to be worth it. He could have been sitting inside by a fireplace and feeding cake to himself but nooooOOOOOooo. He needed an EDUCATION. Which meant coming out HERE where the lake was........ ................ Oh merlin, it was FROZEN OVER?! The fourteen year old hurried down to get a better view of things himself. It really was frozen over! This meant no visit from the infamous squid either. Shame. Instead, there were winged horses. Not baaaaaad. They were MUCH better than the regular ones. Shame that they were pulling carriages. That ruined the effect. And then his eyes landed on two Professors, one of whom he recognised from the gnome lesson and the other........... he didn't know at all. "Hello, Professors," he said, giving them both a nod before plopping himself down on a blanket. Because he was cold. Freaking freezing, in fact. And this blanket was SOFT. Again, not bad. |
Nigel hated winter. Other than it being socially acceptable to start fires for warmth. None of it was appealing to him. It was cold, he could not wear flip flops when he could and it was too cold to wear shorts. Oh, Winter. Snow was just cold also. Uh, why are those two Professor so far apart from each other. Did something happen. Not like Nigel would ask anyway. None of his business. "Hello Professor Fuller and Thompson" Yeah not going to mistakenly try and call him Professor Facial Hair again. Nope. Those blankets look way to comfortable for Nigel to stand around waiting for things to start. So down on a blanket he does. Sweet Laziness. |
Adi loved the feel of the cold breeze rippling through his hair. Seriously, winter was the best and he was glad it came around earlier this year. Approaching the Lake, Adi found it frozen but it was the Winged Horses that had his full attention. Winged Horses were so cool! "Hi, Professors,'' Adi said after he had stared enough at the Horses. Not once did he notice the Thestral. Happily, he went to sit on one of the blankets. CoMC always made the Puffer happy. Plus it was out in the cold. That meant double happiness. |
Why was it so flipping cold already? It was obviously getting closer to winter but she couldn't remember it being this cold at this time last year. Maybe she was just imagining things. Yeah...that had to be it. No other explanations because NO ONE was over-eating ice-cream so things were perfectly safe....in theory. Lex followed the others out to the black lake for the lesson that was meant to be joint, last she heard where she found not only the Professors...but winged horses and...."Is that a thestral from the Forest?" SURE, they could go looking for thestrals in that place but when she did it was suddenly against the rules. PFFFT. Also. "Good Day Professors." Because you had to remember to be polite, yes? |
It was COLD outside, which was a bit weird but Kyroh didn't mind too much. He was too excited! CHARMS class! He scarf and gloves on everything. He was going to learn about charms and awesome stuff! And....CoMC....! Which was cool and about animals but Kyroh wasn't sure if he was technically suppose to take it. He wasn't right? Soooo was he technically not suppose to be in this Charms class either? Welp. Too bad. He was here anyways. Making his way down to the lake the first year started running when he saw the WINGED HORSES! Those were COOL! Coming to a halt right by the lake the boy started to bounce. "Hullo Professor Thompson! Hiii other Professor." That taught Charms. Kyroh did not know your name nope. But CHARMS. "My name's Kyroh Scabior. I'm a first year. And I like your hair." I was all MESSY, like his. It was awesome. |
Why was it so COLD outside?? Bundled up warmly, Lux made her slow trek across the grounds towards the lake. It was frozen solid, which meant that Bartholomew couldn't come up and talk to them during the lesson if he wanted to. How sad. But WINGED HORSES. Those definitely made up for no Giant Squid visits. Wide eyed, she stared at the beautiful creatures for a moment before realizing that the Professors were there too. "Hello, Professor Fuller and Professor Thompson. How are you both doing today?" Excited, she went to find a blanket to sit on while she waited for more people to arrive. |
Penelope hadn't really been sleeping as well recently and really didn't wanna go to any classes, but it wasn't like staying in bed was really gonna help. Plus NEWTs weren't exactly gonna go away, so she might as well go. It was basically like studying anyway. So here she was. And Merlin, it was cold out here. She tugged her scarf on a little tighter as she reached the class area and noticed the winged horses and thestral. Hmm...maybe this lesson would be pretty cool after all. No pun intended. "Hey, Professors." They got a nod and then she took a seat on one of the blankets, bringing her knees up to her chest and wrapping her arms around her legs to keep herself warm. |
Charms was an all right class. Now Care of Magical Creatures that was a wonderful class. Now when he'd seen the classes would be combined Tag had a so so feeling. Why couldn't it just be magical creatures? Anyway, the boy was taking both of those classes but he really had no choice and go. So, he made his way down to the lake and saw a couple of people already there, including the Professors. Did it really have to be outside though? Anyway, he was here, and Tag just gave the Professors a small nod. And no, he wasn't going to be sitting down on those little blankets. He may get too comfortable. So standing up it was. |
Holy kneazle, it was cold! Maddie had bundled up and she was STILL practically an ice cube as she wandered down to where the joint lesson was being held, gloved hands tucked into her pockets. Too bad hot chocolate wasn't allowed in class cause she could SURE use some of that right- WOW! Winged horses! The small first year's eyes widened considerably and she watched them for a minute, completely enthralled. She'd READ about them lots but never seen them, not like this. She was going to like this lesson VERY much, she'd decided. "Hello Professor people!" The brunette wandered over and waaaaved at the two pretty men, eyes shining with excitement cause winged horses. "I'm Maddie Cooper." THE Maddie Cooper. They'd do well to remember her name, MHM! KYROH! Maddie saw him and immediately headed in his direction cause allies sat together, obviously. "Hiii Freckles." YO. WASSUP? |
UGH, it was freeeezing! Caleb was not a fan of winter. Not at ALL. Still, he was all bundled up and ready to learn. Winged horses? That seemed like it might actually be FUN. Hmmm. "Hello Professors," he said with a polite smile. He took his place and began to bounce up and down slightly to try and warm up, hugging his arms and rubbing them to generate heat. He hoped this lesson included an indoor part at some point... |
Decked in warm attire, Sophie pulled her scarf tighter around her neck and her gloves higher up on her hands as she made her way down to the lake. She was awfully bitter that the weather had gotten so poor so quickly - what happened to the nice, slightly brisk autumn weather? It was tooooo chilly these days. The poor lake had even frozen. Merlin. Poor Bartholomew Henry. Soph didn't even pay any attention to the winged horses - she just smiled at the sight of Fuller and Thompson from the moment she saw them. She felt like they were all pretty much on a first-name basis now that she'd eaten their food and swam in their swimming pool - she was certain to take even more advantage of that next summer - but she wasn't going to push her luck. Naw, not when there were so many other students already present. "Hello gentlemen," was thus her choice of greeting as she approached, flashing them the brightest of smiles before spotting the blankets and lunging on one without further thought, claiming it for herself. And Tobes or Cat or Mo whoever wanted to be cute and cuddly with her and stay warm. Hehehehe. |
Jasmine made her way down to the the Black Lake and it was c-c-cold. Zipping her jacket all the way up, she tried to think warm thoughts. She was trying to imagine what was in store for her in the combination Charms and Care of Magical Creatures class. Oooh, winged horses. This was getting better and better. When Jasmine saw that the lake was frozen she was puzzled. It was cold, but it wasn't that cold. "Hello Professors", Jasmine said as she approached the class area. Turning toward the Charms professor, Jasmine introduced herself. "I'm Jasmine Guidry. I'm new here at Hogwarts. It's nice to meet you." Seeing that Cris and Lux had already arrived, Jasmine went over to say hello to them. |
Jumping JACKS! JUMPING...JACKS! That's what Zahra was doing to stay warm. JUMPING JACKS. WOO WOO WOO. It was still cold though. "You all ever heard that muggle song about starting a fire? IT's about to be KETTLEBURN STARTED THE FIIIIIREEEEEEE out here." For real. BURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Oh and HEY AND STUFF? Zahra waved in between jumping jacks. |
Benny was bundled up for the cold weather, a scarf and gloves added to his robes atop his clothes. He might love COMC's class but he wasn't going to be uncomfortable during the lesson. The third year was already unsure of what to expect with the addition of Charms into the equation. Making his way down to the lake where they were to gather, he saw his classmates already gathered including Adi and both professor's waiting. The sight of the winged horses was exciting though as he got closer and spotted the thestral Ben flinched and stepped back. It was enough to see them before and after the school term, the creatures with a bad rap sometimes still unnerved him with the truth. The Gryffindor eventually shook it off and finished the journey, settling off to one side. "Good day Professors," he greeted politely before going quiet. His eyes every once and a while flickering to the thestral. |
Zander walked towards the combined class covered in goosebumps. SO COLD. He was not prepared for this. Wasn't it SUPPOSED to be Autumn!? Autumn is known for colorful leaves, and pumpkin juice, and light jackets, but not for THE COLD. This is unacceptable. This is uncalled for. This is a travesty. This is not what they signed up for. This is... not okay because Zander definitely did not dress for the right situation. If he had known he would've grabbed a scarf, a heavy coat, a set of thick winter robes, some earmuffs, some thick wintery gloves, some hot cocoa, and a space heater. But by the time he had gotten outside, he couldn't have turned back. Didn't want to be late. Especially because there would be TWO PROFESSORS in this class. So Zander arrived shivering, goosebumps and all. That's when he spotted the padded blankets on the ground. YES HAZZA THERE IS STILL HOPE! Zander ran and picked a nice heavy looking one and draped it around his body. He looked like one of them kids that use blankets to hide from their parents when they don't want a bath. Now semi-warm, blanketed Zander waddled up to his professors, waddled is the correct verb here because you try walked around with a giant soft blanket over your head. It's not easy. "Hi Pro-pro-fessor Thompson," he looked up with a smile, and tightened his blanket headdress as he spoke. He waited for a response, but then remembered THERE WERE TWO PROFESSORS HERE and turned to Professor numero two, "He-hello, it's so-so-so c-c-c-cold today." |
The sight of frozen lake was so beautiful that Lucy has forgotten the icy cold feeling.. She had seen the winged horses only in her dreams .. Lucy said:"Hello Professor Fuller and Professor Thompson! I'm Lucy Petersfield..It's my first year here at Hogwarts!" |
Brrr. It was so cold, but she still had Adi's jacket so it wasn't so bad. Not that she really minded the cold or anything. The first year was excited that it was a joint lesson and was looking forward to her first ever Charms lesson. She spotted a few familiar faces and plopped down as close to the animals as she could. Those blankets were nice and a much needed touch. "Hello professors." the creatures looked super cool. "Will we be riding them today?" Please say yes. |
Brrrr why was it so cold already. The Divination professor had seen the notice for the combined Charms and COMC class going on and even with the weather she couldn't resist seeing two of her old classmates in action. How fun was this going to be! Eeep! So Cassie made her way down the grounds to the black lake. Pulling her cloak tighter around her, she might have to use a heating charm soon her hands were freezing. Half singing half squealing in her little voice, "helllllllllllooooo" frantic waves were coming from the five foot thirty two year old. This was going to be fun and oh.. O_o She stopped and looked first at the frozen lake, "Piersy did you freeze the lake?" It was so pretty could she walk on it? Then to the horses where her huge normal smile moved to a frown as she felt the overwhelming anxiousness she had been feeling from the creatures around. She rubbed her temples for a moment before pushing the smile back on her face. "You don't mind me popping into your lesson now do you?" Of course they wouldn't she wouldn't be a problem just observe and watch all the excitement. |
Angel had walked in with her sister, but she stayed behind her all the way to the lake, she was wondering if the Professors would be confused. "Hi Professors, I can't wait to learn something cool." Angel beamed as she stayed hid behind her sister she was a little bit scared at the moment of whatever that thing was they were with. |
And Zahra As Michael joined the group of students that were down by the lake, he snorted with laughter at the sight of his girlfriend doing jumping jacks. He had a much better way of warming her up, with a good old cuddle but he had to behave himself this term. "Hello Professors." He said in greeting as he passed them. Were they always going to have joint lessons? Could the two of them not be apart for more than five minutes? He stood a few feet from Zahra. "Where's your scarf? And gloves?" If she had remembered to wear them then maybe she wouldn't be so cold. |
Quote:
Zahra grinned, but kept up the jumping jacks. "Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaybe, they're up your butt with a coconut, Toussaint!," Zahra WHISPERED poorly back her answer. hahahahaha ....hahahahaha she CACKLED. Or she'd forgotten and/or lost them. Zahra would live though. SHe was a GRYFFINDOR. She gave her counterpart a LOOKING over. SOMEONE looked particularly Toussaint today, dressed properly and whatnot. And hot. heheh.... hehe. |
...it was cold. Like, real cold. So cold Marigold couldn't feel her nose OR her ears, which she tried to cover with her scarf. My really working. But Charms!!!! Woot!!! She smiled brightly at the men. "Hello professors," she said, beaming, then turbine by away. ... Z was doing jumping jacks. Okay. |
Marisol had never experienced a combined class before, but she'd really enjoyed CoMC in her last lesson. Charms didn't seem like something she'd be as good at. And why was the lake frozen? The Spaniard didn't do so well in cold. She was used to the mild Sevillian winter temperatures. This, in comparison, sucked. "Hello," she said to her professors. Marisol acted like nothing bothered her, though she really wanted to wrap one of those blankets around herself. "I am Marisol." She'd already said this to Professor Thompson, so that was mostly directed to the Charms dude. What was this, a beauty pageant? The instructors were both dressed not in robes, but fancy Muggle apparel. On that note, Mari awaited further instruction. |
Angel & AJ She did not understand. Really. It was cold and they were having lessons outside. Well, at least they were told to wear warm clothes. And Charms+CoMC=FUN! Leah was wearing her sweater and had her gloves on this day, so she did not feel much cold. As the second year walked towards the lake, she saw that she was on time for the lesson. Approaching the professors, she greeted, "Good morning, Professor Fuller, Professor Thompson." Then, finding a few familiar students around, she jogged over to Angel and AJ standing nearby. "Hi Angel, AJ." she said, smiling. "What are you looking at?" the girl asked AJ. |
Norah was grateful for her thick cloak and scarf as she walked down to the Black Lake on the crunchy, frosted grass. Giving the professors a grin as she passed, she waved a glove-clad hand and called, "Hello, professors." She beamed at the puff of white air that clouded from her mouth as she spoke, and proceeded to exhale lungfuls of air to admire the dancing white puffs. It was like being a DRAGON, she wanted to shout, but didn't because she was sure the old her students would appreciate her outburst. Their loss, though, because being a dragon was PRETTY awesome, yep. Making her way towards the cluster of students, she rubbed the biting cold from her nose before shoving her hands back in her pockets and waiting for the lesson to start. |
He hated the cold. Thus, why Mr. Mordaunt looked ten pounds heavier than normal with the excessive bundling. Cutty spotted the lake frozen over and near to it winged horses and carriages. He wondered if the sight would feel familiar to Whitty as he crunched over to the lake and inspected it further. Was this done magically? It was cold, but not yet enough that the ice would be as thick as it was. Quite well done. Cutty soon joined the class gathering nearby and sat upon the ground taking advantage of the free blankets. "Hello Professors Fuller and Thompson.", he greeted his teachers. Magical Equines, right? Where was Fern Quimbley? Cutty thought of her as something of a horse. |
Lol, you kill me woman! Quote:
Oh Merlin!! The things she came out with. Michael worked furiously not to burst into laughter. "So that's why my face is so red." He tipped her a wink before finally succumbing to the snickers. He saw the look she was giving him and he immediately unwrapped his scarf, thinking that's what she wanted. "Here you go." He said holding it out to her. |
Quote:
When MIKEY cracked and snickered, too, Zahra REALLY lost it and laaaaaaaaughed her little blond head off. And definitely took the scarf! Not only was it warm, but it was full of Toussainty smell goods. SO Zahra wrapped herself up with it. That took long enough and helped enough to distract her from jumping jacks. "How many professors does it take to ..... OH! WHOA LOOKIT." Z was just taking note of the WINGED HORSES! WINGED HORSES! "I'm SO riding one! DIBS ON THE BIGGEST ONE!" |
Quote:
It was lucky for Z that he liked her so much because it wasn't until he took off his scarf that he realised how cold it actually was. Maybe he needed to start doing some jumping jacks. Michael's gaze followed hers and he spotted the winged horses as well. "You think you can handle such a big horse?" He knew that she could, he just liked getting a reaction out of her. |
Bay was glad he made it before the Professors arrived. but he started to get worried because he over heard some people talking about winged horses? "what the blood hell are they talking about?" was this class a full of crazy students or what. trying to find his group of friends he said his hello's to the professors "Hello Professors" he said while spotting Lux and some others as he made a beeline towards them. |
One male professor was bad, irritating, a nuisance in every way, but two together teaching the same lesson? That was punishment. No doubt the pseudo attractive professors 'cause they weren't would be going on and on trying to make all the girls 'round swoon, yeah? Pfft. He hated this class. He hated the whole idea of it. Pulling the nastiest and most bored look he could muster, Ascanius hobbled down to where all of his peers were huddled and found a seat. The seventh year wasn't saying hello to his professors. Nope. Silence. |
Cutty too! The lake was frozen, it was quite a sad thing to see. Beverly rather liked the water and swimming and skipping rocks and--not fishing. That was an old people's sport. Wrinkling her nose at it and huddling her thick cloak securely around her, she didn't place much importance as to why the lake was frozen solid. It was obvious magic had something to do with it. The lake became LESS of an importance once her eyes landed on the WINGED HORSES. OH MY MERLIN. WINGED HORSES. The girl almost broke out into a beam at the sight of them. Almost because just as fast, her excitement was half way extinguished when she met white eyes peeking from behind the professors. Her throat went dry. "Whoa," she whispered lowly. Finding a spot near and somewhat thick kid, she double-backed. She knew that head. Her ever observant skills tingled. Taking step to the side, she got view of his profile. Sitting on a blanket and wrapping another around her (yes, she took TWO), she poked his fluffy side. Squishy. How many layers was he wearing? "A bit nippy, isn't it, Mordaunt?" she said in form of greeting. Beverly couldn't blame him, she HATED the cold. Her eyes darted back to the professors and the Thestral. Did he see what she saw? HMM? |
It was cold, and Mo was very tempted by the blankets that were available. Not for sitting, but for wrapping up into a very warm Mosef-burrito. In fact, he stared at the blankets rather too long before remembering where he was and what he was about. Both of the professor got a polite nod (even Pierson who stole girlfriends) and a small smile. "G'day, Professors. It's awfully chilly..." But enough about the weather. Those were flying horses. HE LIKED THOSE THINGS, OKAY? Mo glanced around wildly for anyone to be excited with him. Where was Girlfriend? |
What cold weather? Psh. That kind of cold is the usual temperature back in his old school, so the boy wasn’t bothered at all. He did dress warmly of course, because getting sick was a no-no for him. On his way to the Black Lake, he jogged to where his classmates were assembled, but his eyes were on the winged horses. WINGED HORSES. FROZEN LAKE. Were they going to have a race over the frozen lake? He turned to where two men were standing and greeted them. “Good day, Professor Thompson!...Hello…sir.” Ethan gave the CoMC professor a wave and the other man a nod. This was going to be his first time attending Charms, and he forgot to check who the other man was. Whoops. |
Why was it so cold? Even wearing her warm winter clothes on, Penelope still felt cold. Where she had come from in California, the weather was always warm and sunny, even in winter. "Hello professors," Penelope sat down on a blanket, trying to stay warm. |
Joint lesson, eh? She liked the sound of this. Especially with one of the lessons being her favorite. And she did like Charms, who didn't? There's no joy bigger than learning new cool incantation, especially for one of age who could show off in the presence of their sibling. HA! So she had all the motivations to go there. So after adding a couple of layers beneath her robes, the seventh-year headed out to where the lesson was. Wait? Where exactly did it see on the notice board? Well, she couldn't remember but it wasn't hard since she could see other classmates heading to the grounds as well. She could just follow them hoping they weren't following the HG. Heh. And she arrived! Good for her fellow classmates who knew where they coming. The snake's eyes lingered on the frozen lake and the winged horses. YES! SO COOL! "Good day, professors," she greeted the two looking men with a beam before plopping down on one of the blankets. |
Right. Awkward. Yes. West showed up but he kept his mouth shut and did not make eye contact with either professor. For reasons. He DID see the Thestral though, and wondered if it was one of the ones he'd fed raw meat to with Kat. West tugged his scarf up around his ears a bit more and silently waited near the back since he could see over the heads of practically everyone anyway. |
Normally, Dora wouldn't have attended this lesson. It was part creatures, which she wasn't taking, and it was... well it was a class. She'd didn't actually need these what with this being her NEWT year and all. But she had planned on taking a walk outside anyway to get away from everyone that was horded up in the castle thanks to the cold, and the professors were hot, so why not? Not to mention she'd been hiding out in her dorms for too long anyway. It was about time she showed her face more in these lessons. Hands in the pockets of her robe, she approached the class silently, a slight nod in the direction of the professors her only greeting as she stood waiting for the lesson to begin. |
The charms she’d cast on herself to keep her warm before the DADA lesson earlier in the term were being cast even more often lately, but at least Lily wasn’t complaining. She sort of felt like she’d gotten used to the weather at Hogwarts, although there had been a few memories of how hot it had been in Peru last summer. That had almost made her feel like complaining as she’d headed out toward the lake for the joint class, but she held it back. Complaining wasn’t going to accomplish anything. It wouldn’t make her warmer. Hopefully they’d have some sort of activity that would keep them active and therefore warmer than just standing around outside watching their own breath. She’d managed to work up a grin for the professors, however. “Hi Professor Thompson, Professor Fuller,” she said, settling onto one of the blankets as her green eyes scanned cross to the winged horses near the frozen-over lake. That looked like they’d be riding, which was okay with her. She wasn’t against that one bit, but for now it looked like they’d have to wait. Waiting meant not going anywhere, so she’d wrapped her robes around herself a bit tighter. She wasn’t planning on spending the holidays sick with a cold. |
Covered with her warm clothes and with her two rats warm and hidden in her pocket she walked toward the other students and stood still, it was cold and she hated cold! So, without saying anything she walked past the teachers and didn't looked at anybody in special, not even at the carriages before her, she wanted that the lesson would start because it was cold and she wanted to warm herself, and standing or sitting still wasn't a good way to get warmer... |
Quote:
Turning her attention to the Hufflepuff. "Those winged horse looking things lined up over there." She was pointing in the direction that they all stood. AJ did not see the threstral though. |
Quote:
WHAT?!?! Zahra tried to stand on his foot then,TO SHOW HIM WHO WAS BOSS, WHO RODE THE BIG HORSE. HER! RAWWRRRR. "The question is whether or not YOU can handle one of those, Toussaint." CLEARLY. She glanced back towards the professors, then the winged horses, then the professors. "I bet we're just brushing them or something. No way they'll give us permission to ride them." WHICH was a MAJOR bummer. |
Cassia too Adelaide made her way out to the lake, bundled from head to toe. She was not going to miss this class. Two very pretty professors were teaching it and they were worth braving this insanely cold weather. The lake was frozen over and everything. She already saw the bit of crowd that had begun to gather and the horses and carriages. "Morning professors." Adelaide gave both of the She spotted a few of her housemates, giving them each a little nod and a smile. Addi spotted a blanket near Cassia and plopped down with her. "Hey." |
She wasn't late yet was she? Oh please tell her she wasn't! That's all that kept running through the twelve year old's frantic mind as she sprinted towards the Black Lake where the lesson was supposed to be held today. Not only that, it was definitely more chilly than she was anticipating, not to Josie's liking. It wasn't that she hate winter, it was just too cold. But all thoughts of that cold had disappeared when she'd finally reached the lake where she saw Professor Fuller & Professor Thompson, with the rest of the class. It hadn't started yet! She wasn't late! What a relief! She quickly gave a slight out of breath, but soft greeting, "Good morning P-Professor F-Fuller..Professor T-Thompson.." She smiled quickly before going to stand by one of the blankets waiting for the lesson to begin. As she did so, she took notice of blankets all around her, probably for the students to sit on. But Josie had other things in mind. Instead she collected the blanket & wrapped it around her tiny shivering body. After doing so that was when she took notice of the winged horses everywhere. Oh wow..they were certainly quite majestic. |
So, cool. Charms and Care of Magical Creatures was a joint class. That meant there was one less class to attend today, since two of them were being combined. With any luck, the homework would be combined, too, and that would be one less assignment to do. Better yet, maybe there'd be no homework at all, which would be much more preferred by Sophie. She approached the lake, noting right away that it was frozen over. So why were they out here and not in the warmth of the castle? Looking around again, she saw the winged horses. Oh, right. Those weren't exactly castle pets. Mmkay, so what first? |
Including Jasmine, Bay and Lux and anyone else who wants to join in Standing and trying to stay warm, Cris was glad to see his friends approaching. When they were all gathered together, Cris sat down on the blanket with the rest. "Did you see the Winged Horses, especially that Thestral? Do you think we'll get to ride them bareback?" Cris whispered to the others. "If given a chance, I would love to ride the Thestral. Which ones would you choose?" |
Kace made it to the lesson. He realized it was colder nearer the lake. He held his scarf closer to his neck. He was a fan of the bitter cold, especially the wind chill. As he made it to the lake, he realized two professors were there. He wondered what they would be learning they needed the charms and care of magical creatures teacher together. Ah well this means excitement for Kace. As he approached he realized he wasn't the only one. He saw other students made it here before him. He smiled to all of them and then said hello the professors. "Hello P-p-professor Fuller and P-p-professor Thompson.." It was quite cold here. He wished he dressed warmer. He started warming his hands and found a nice soft blanket to sit on. He waited with the others to see what they were going to learn today. |
Agatha would never admit this, but she wasn't used to this cold weather anymore, having lived for years in a "Hello, professors." The third year decided to greet both teachers at the same time, since she didn't know one of them and didn't want to be disrespectful. But Merlin, wasn't that other one handsome! Agatha looked at him for a bit longer than she probably should have, but soon made her way to where her classmates where. Since when was the Lake frozen? She had been out just the other day and she could swear it wasn't cold enough for it to be completely frozen yet! Or was it? She didn't know anymore about this weather, but she was glad it was the UK weather she had to deal with from now one. The thought put a pleased smile on her face as she waited for class to begin. |
Hazel shivered as she reached the lake. "Hello, Pr-prof-fessors," she said. It was a lot colder than she thought. She pulled her cloak towards her freezing skin and made her way over to the spot that seemed the warmest. She picked up a blanket and laid it down on her lap. Maybe she should've brought her fuzzy earmuffs. Yes, those would be helpful, wouldn't they? She promised herself that as soon as the class was over she'd sit by the fire in her common room. And maybe drink a nice warm glass of Apple cider? That sounded nice. But now she had a class to attend. She hoped it was going to be worth the chill. |
Quote:
Michael gave her a look, not because she was trying to assert her authority by standing on his foot but for her lack of confidence in him. Could he handle a winged horse? Does the Bunzinator have red hair? "If I can handle you Kettleburn, I can handle anything." He watched her look between the winged horses and the Professors and he raised his eyebrows at her. "And when have you ever needed permission to do anything?" |
Declan shuffled towards the group. He'll admit that he missed this kind of weather in all his time in California, but it did make him more susceptible to the cold and was now shivering like a chihuahua. As he joined in the group, secretly lodging himself in between people to steal some of their body heat, his eyes traveled over the sight of the winged horses, the carriages, and then settling on the professors. He heard about their little meet up through the Aparecium. The boy was happy for them, really, but that's their own personal lives. As if he wanted to get involved in professors' lives, pfft. He smiled at both of them and a few of the people he's met and rocked back on forth on his heels to keep him distracted from the chilly air. |
SPOILER!!: AJ ^_^ Leah plopped down onto the blanket next to the two girls, leaving space for Angel. She was feeling cheerful today, probably because she could feel that they were not going to work with creatures like garden gnomes. Looking past AJ's shoulder, the second year stared at the horses. "Oh, they're beautiful." she said with dreamy eyes. Returning her gaze to AJ (completely not seeing the Thestral) she asked, "Do you like magical creatures, AJ? What about you, Angel?" |
Well, well, well..... what was this? Caterina really tried not to wear a smug little grin when she arrived to the joint class of Professor Facial Hair Fuller and Hottie Javy Thompson and she rather thought she was doing a very good job at it. "Hellooooo, professors." She wiggled her fingers at them both in greeting, but they were very promptly bumped to number two most exciting when she noted the winged horses. Those would always make her think of Mo, and she turned to look for him, bouncing over in his direction and grinning. Did he see them? Did he? They were THERE. "Hi." She whispered to him, grinning like a Cheshire cat and waiting for the class to start. |
There was frost on the ground. How could one hold class outside when it was cold enough to frost? No wait. The word she was looking for was WHY? Because this was ridiculous. Which was also a word that some of her classmates might use to describe how Layla was dressed. She looked more like she was going skiing rather than to a CoMC/Charms combined class. But she didn't care because it was cold out here. Anyway, she approached the rest of the class, not seeing the Thestral behind the two professors. She did see the winged horses and frozen lake though, and gave them both a raised brow before flopping down on one of the padded blankets provided. "Hello, professors." Now, why were they out here in the cold? |
SPOILER!!: Cris Sitting with her friends, Jasmine listened to Cris' excitement as he talked about the winged horses and thestrals. "I'm thinking that we won't get to ride them, but maybe we'll get to feed them or tend to them.". When he asked which one they would choose, Jasmine's answer was obvious. "I can't see the thestral, so I would have to choose the winged horses. You can see them?" |
Let's Begin! Text Cut: Greeting replies are in here!!! Once all the students had arrived, Fuller looked past them all to make sure no one else was coming. It was time to get the class rolling! Time to get their brains active so they wouldn’t freeze in their tiny teenage skulls. ”Welcome to class, everyone!” he said loudly, for all to hear. ”As you know, this will be a combined lesson with both Charms and Care of Magical creatures. Charms, taught by myself, Professor Fuller and Care of Magical Creature, taught by Professor Thompson.” He jabbed a thumb in the other man’s direction to point him out. Just in case they didn’t know who they were, since they seemed to have some newcomers and first years there. Oh, yeah, Cassie was there, too. ”Professor Morgan,” he added, pointing to the blond Divination professor, ”is just visiting today, so be sure to stomp on her toes and stuff.” Haha. She asked for it. He rubbed his gloved hands together. ”Now, I hope you remembered to dress warmly. We will be out here for the next little while, so make sure you wrap up in a blanket if you get too cold. There’s plenty for everyone.” Thanks to Javy. Good thing he was thinking about the kids, eh? ”So, as you may have guessed, we’ll be talking a bit about winged horses, but we’ll leave that to Professor Thompson in a little bit. We’re going to start with the Charms portion first. So, to get started... What can you all tell me about the Placement Charm? What do you know about it? What does it do? How do you use it? If you have used it before, tell me what you’ve used it for?” Professor Fuller spread his arms, gesturing to the students. Discuss! OOC: Class has now begun! If you’re just arriving, feel free to jump right in, but just pretend like you’ve been here all along! OOC: Feel free to use any HP canon and SS canon information you find on the placement charm, as there is information on this spell in both places. Feel free to discuss! |
Hope you remembered to dress warm. HA. It was written on the noticeboard, yes. But did people actually read the noticeboard? Because if they did, then Zander was definitely not people. He was more like a mess of goosebumps and shivers and hidden blanket monster. When Professor Fuller also mentioned the blankets the students could use to keep themselves warm, Zander let out a small chuckle. Because he was ahead of the game. HA! Further covering his head with the soft blanket, Zander listened to the first question of the lesson. Hmm... Charms was definitely a better than Transfiguration and Potions, so he'd actually have to try in this class. The third year eagerly raised his hand, poking it out of his blanket cover. "The incantation for the placement charm is Fixate!" |
Hayley was still a bit groggy. It wasn't like she was up late doing homework or anything So they were talking about the Placement Charm. She'd heard about that one before. Listening to other people's answers first, she tried to recall what she'd learnt. "It sticks things, Professor?" she said, even though it came out more as a question. There was a reason she wasn't in Ravenclaw, see? She didn't mind. Hufflepuffs gave better hugs anyway. |
Before Jasmine knew it, class was starting and she turned her attention to the Charms Professor. When the Professor asked about Placement Charm, Jasmine's hand went up immediately. "A Placement Charm lets you put an object in a specific place without you having to pysically move it." |
Fuller. Got it. Oh wait. Hehe. Is he the guy on the Aparecium? Muehehehe. Ethan kept a straight face and raised his hand as the first question was raised. “A Placement Charm places an object on to something.” That’s it. Easy peasy. Will they be putting on harnesses on the winged horses and stuff? Interesting. Yup. |
"Yes unfortunately, I can see Thestrals, Jasmine. Remind me to tell you how come later," he quickly whispered to her seeing that both Professors had come forward to speak. Cris couldn't wait to get started. O_o the placement charm? He had read about that. Cris waited patiently, allowing the others to share their answers, before he raised his hand and shared his. "Professors, I've used the placement charm before. I learned how to do it back in Durmstrang and got the chance to use it during my Defense Against the Dark Arts OWLs exam. I had to use it to place a harness over a Kelpie in order to take away its powers. I cast the spell from a distance, first levitating the harness and then tapping the side of it while saying the spell. I've heard that the spell can also be cast just pointing it at the intended target." ....and that was something he hoped they would get the chance to do. |
Seeing Bay join the class made Lux even happier. It was always wonderful to see her boyfriend and sit by him and her friends. She was so happy right now. A good thing p, seeing how cold it was. Bundled up in her warm clothes, the girl waved in greeting as one of the new Professprs stopped by, then proceeded to listen to what Fuller had to say. Placement Charm? That wasn't one she was very familiar with. Raising her hand, she offered something she knew about it. "I know that using a Placement Charm to put a bridle on a Kelpie makes it harmless." An answer covering both Charms and Care of Magical Creatures. Go her. |
Placement charms? Penelope didn't really know anything about placement charms, but it was easy to guess what they were used for. "A placement charm is used to put an object where you want to place it." Even though she was dressed warmly and wrapped in a blanket, Penelope still felt cold. It was always warm where she had come from in California, so Penelope was not used to the cold weather. The ideal weather for Penelope was between 73 degrees Farenheit (about 28 degrees Celsius) and 78 degrees Farenheit (about 25.5 or 26 degrees Celsius). Why was it so cold? |
Text Cut: Beverly "Nar. I'm not cold at all. Are yew?" Sass. That boy was sassy and he felt the need to share. Ugh! He looked out toward the professors, but occasionally, perhaps it looked as though he had spotted the Thestral. He had not. Text Cut: Fuller Cutty tore his attention away from Beverly Wayne long enough to shoot a glance over at the blonde witch. Professor Morgan. Step on her toes. A slow, and certainly mischievous smile came about his face. It ceased, however, and quite suddenly when the Professor asked the question about placement Charms. His well-padded arm and gloved hand was raised. "They're a time saving charm that helps the witch or wizard to move something from it's current location elsewhere. Dead useful." Especially when one wanted to avoid leaving evidence of having touched a thing. "Not only do they save time, but they might also help in situations where yew want to avoid puttin' y'fingaz. Such as when feeding a fanged geranium or other flesh-eating plant." |
Placement charms? Lucy didn't know this spell, but she raised her wand and she said "A placement charm is used to put an object in a particular place." |
"Hi Boddie!!" Kyroh greeted, waving at his friend. HI. Horses! Look! He was so busy looking at them he hadn't even really looked at the Professors. So when Professor Charms spoke, Kyrohs eyes grew. The guy with the good hair......IT WAAAAAS THE NAPPING GUY! "YOU! YOU'RE THE NAPPING GUY!" Grin. He GRINNED. And pointed. But then his grin faded just a bit when the professor called him a booger? "I'm not a booger sir. I'm a boy." Yeah. Big difference. Didn't he see? Was he in trouble now? Did that mean he didn't like him? The first year took a side step, slightly hiding behind Maddie. Just slightly. "And I didn't draw on your face. I told the lady that you didn't need makeup to make you pretty. So I was trying to take the quill off that she put on you to make you pretty." He hadn't put on the lipstick on him either, because lipstick seemed weird. Not even like real makeup. He should have been happy. He was pretty and everything without makeup. As for the question, Kyroh raised his hand this time. "I don't know anything about the placement charm sir, but I think it puts something in a place where it wasn't before." He paused and scratched his head. "Though I don't think I saw it in my textbook so I'm guessing someone should place the placement charm there." Come on Standard Book of Spells Grade 1 get your act together. |
Angel smiled as she raised her hand. "Professor a Placement charm, Is a spell that if I am right in saying makes one object move to another place without a magical person having to touch it." Angel thought about what she could describe it as. "It's like a muggle magician can move things without touching them." Angel wondered if they were wizards as well or just lucky. |
He tore his attention away from Zahra to focus on what the professor was saying. And it wasn't all that exciting to be honest. But he did raise his hand so that he could answer the questions. "It's used to stick an object in place." Duh! "It's for lazy people who don't want to do it physically." Michael's gaze went back to Z and he grinned. "I have never used it before but it sure would come in handy sometimes." Hehe. |

---------------------------------------- Oh, the lesson was starting now. AJ ended all conversations and listened to the professors hopefully say for them all to saddle up. He did say that was a surprise so it was a definite possibility. All she knew was that before her years were up at Hogwarts, she was going to ride one of those winged things. A placement charm? Ummm... she was beginning to wonder if there was some kind of study material that she should have read before she got to school. AJ kept wondering how Angel managed to know things. Maybe her and Abby had been talking. Not wanting to get left behind she took a stab in the dark. "Is it a charm that makes things stay put?" Heh. she used context clues and attempted an answer so that counted for something right? |
A placement charm? Norah couldn't think of anything aside the obvious to say, so instead of chancing an answer she rummaged around in her bag to extract and quill and parchment. She realized the obvious issue with this when her search for a surface to place her parchment on failed her, so she stuffed the parchment back into her bag and just listened. Mental notes count for something, right? And anyway, her fingers were too numb to write. A placement charm places things, easy enough. |
So they were getting underway with this joint lesson. Adi didn't mind the Charms part being dealt with first. Save the best for last! And CoMC was the best. Hehe. Okay, Placement Charms. What did he know about those? Hand in the air Adi spoke up. "It's a charm that can be used to put something somewhere in particular.'' As for using it, he had never gotten around to it. |
There they go talking about winged horses again... Where were they? But his thoughts went out the window when Lux made her way to him he gave her a confused smile as he listen to her give her answer. She was so smart Bay didn't know anything about b that spell so he was going to keep quite and listen to what everyone else was saying about it. |
This one was Fuller. Fuller and Thompson. Okay. And Grayson had hardly noticed the new professor who had decided to drop by. Why was she here? HMMMMM? Seemed a bit fishy, didn't it? And random, too. Uh huh. But anyways, there was something FAR more important here that he'd rather focus his attention on. So, looking away from the blonde haired woman, the fourteen year old looked over at the winged horses, instead. Brilliant. Freaking. BRILLIANT. Placement Charm? They'd been taught about this sooooo, after a minute's thought, he raised his hand in the air, "Don't you have to tap the side of Thing A while it's being levitated so that it can be placed onto Thing B?" Was THAT right? "OR! Some people can just point at it and place Thing A on Thing B. Ultimate level of laziness right there." And one last thing: "I've never used it before but it sounds like a dead useful spell." Pity that it probably didn't work on humans. Or did it? |
SPOILER!!: Professor Fuller Simon gave the Professor a kind smile in response as he sat down. It was rather chilly, but boy was Simon glad he brought his gloves, hat, and scarf. As class began, Simon eagerly listened to Professor Fuller as he spoke about the Placement Charm. The charm temporarily placed an object on a desired target. He hadn't tried using this particular charm before. It seemed like it would be a good time saver. Instead of raising his hand, he remained silent and listened to the other students answer. He shrugged. He didn't have anything else that could be added. |
Due to her earmuffs, it LOOKED like Schuyler may not have been able to hear well - or that at least Professor Fuller's words would be muffled - but, actually, she could hear perfectly well. So, placement charms. "Placement charms move an object somewhere without you having to touch the object," she answered. After hearing some other student say something about laziness, she added, "I wouldn't say lazy. Just more efficient." Okay, sometimes lazy. But that could be said for a lot of spells, no? "I once used it to place a straw hat on a niffler." She and Ansel decided that it gave the the lil' guy some character. |
The combined Charms and Care of Magical Creatures lessons were starting to become one of Toby's favourite things; he totally hoped there'd be loads more, because FULLER and THOMPSON. They were fantastic, see? Placement charms? Right. Toby stuck his hand in the air, waggling his gloved fingers around even as he adjusted his scarf around his neck to protect his ears from the cold some more. "It puts a thing in a certain place," he said, which was... basically what everyone had said but shhhhh. "It's only temporary, so it's not like a sticking charm or anything, and will probably wear off after a certain amount of time, depending on how strong the spell is when you cast it. I guess you have to be super focused for it to last longer." And..... well, that was all he could really think of, but it wouldn't hurt to say more. "It's different to placing things with Wingardium Leviosa, I suppose, because you would have to do a lot more work with aiming and placing, but with this one it's like... pre-programmed in your intent? Like, it's more specific." |
Wrap up with a blanket? Bunch of MUGGLES. Whatever happened to using a charm for that kind of thing, Mr. Charms Professor? All these things were going through Sophie's mind as the lesson began. The Placement Charm. Well, the name of the charm kind of spoke for itself, didn't it? Sophie thought for a minute then raised her hand. "It's a charm that places something somewhere," she said. That wasn't very clear, though, so she added, "For example, you can place a saddle on a horse with a Placement Charm, or you can do it by hand." |
Oh Merlin! Had he just made a blunder when referring to the part of a horse's gear that could be used to subdue a Kelpie? Has he actually said harness? After hearing Lux mention the word bridle, he knew he had. Cris gave himself a mental slap on the head. Bridle dude. That's the one that goes over the head. The fairness are the straps you use to attach a horse to something a cart. Oh well too late. He's just allow the Professors to correct his wrong use of words. Concentrate Cris. Not only do you need to concentrate on what the Professors and the other students are saying, you also need to concentrate on the answers you are sharing with everyone. Sigh! |
Placement charm? Well Caleb had never USED it, but he knew what it was. He had no idea how they were going to use it for winged horses, though. He was curious to see how the two professors were going to connect the two... He raised his hand. "I know that the placement charm basically moves things for you?" he said, unsure of how to really phrase his thoughts. "So you can move heavy things and stuff, but it allows you to move things ANYWHERE, not like Wingardium Leviosa which is basically just straight up into the air," he explained. Yeah, that made sense, right? |
What sass from Professor Facial Hair. It was awesome. Maybe that was because she called him piersy. Really. Who in their right mind would like that nickname. Though it was humorous how Thompson just went along with it. More cold, just great. They would be outside more in this too cold to be outside or long period weather. Maybe Nigel should have brought a hat along or something. His face was seriously cold. Or he could just as the hot air charm that would work. Yes it would. Yeah not even going to answer that question. As if the name of the charm was not enough of a hint as to what it does. Really And he was lazy, so of course he has used it before. |
He'd arrived at class in the nick of time, near late but not quite tardy 'cause getting lost was happening. It had also taken Dima a really long time to find his winter clothes and stuff. Why were they having class OUTSIDE again? In December? Uncool, professors, uncool. But the pretty horses made up for that. The first year had sat with Kyroh and Maddie without saying anything ('cause his mouth was wrapped up in a scarf, obviously), but he WAVED to them. He also gave a halfhearted attempt to answer the first question as well, even though it didn't go very smoothly. "Mmmfgmhd mmfgnff ngmmmfdhm!" This scarf was an issue. |
Brrrrr. Marigold shivered slightly, but then promptly forgot about the cold when Fuller started talking. ONE OF HER FAVORITE TEACHERS!!!!! Plus, charms. So interesting and stuff. She grinned for a while, then remembered she was supposed to answer. Whoops. "A placement charm is for people who want to use their wands instead of manual labor and putting things places." Cos placing charm, yeah? |
Kyroh looked EXCITED, did he KNOW? Maddie was excited TOO cause winged horses but they were doing the CHARMS bit first and she s'posed she could get excited about THAT too. Learning new things and all, YUP. OH and Dima's scarf was pretty much covering his face which made Maddie wonder if he could even SEE the winged horses properly. SHRUG. She could describe them to him and stuff if he COULDN'T see! Waaaaave. Hi Dima. HIIII. Winged horses! Charms! YUP! Maddie didn't KNOW for sure what a placement charm WAS but she was PRETTY sure it placed something somewhere. YUP! Seemed like an excuse to be lazy to HER but whatever. "Could you use it on PEOPLE, Professor, or JUST things?" Cause Maddie wouldn't mind PLACING her brothers out in the yard and locking them out for a bit so she could get some peace and quiet, UH-HUH! |
Mo was completely enthralled by the flying horses, to the point where he really wasn't paying much attention to the professors. Certainly not close enough to realize that the professor was making fun of him a bit. Or maybe he realized it and didn't care. Being a seventh year was weird, man. It changed the way the world looked. But he did hear the question, and Mo raised his hand thoughtfully after some of his classmates had answered. "Is it sort of like a meeting of Wingardium Leviosa and a Sticking Charm? Except that the object sort of slides into the place it is intended like a key in a lock rather than having to be directed there through trial and error?" That was a long 'is it sorta' question, and Mo turned a bit pink. And reached over to pull Dima's scarf all the way over the younger boy's face to cover his embarrassment. |
Maybe wasn't an answer. Did the Professor know that? Except, it actually was when you added it to the shrug like that leaving the Gryffindor with one more question. "Does Kirby know you borrowed one of his thestrals?" Important stuff right there. As Groundskeeper he was incharge of the forest and the things living in there even if they were creatures and Thompson might have had some excuse. Couldn't leave out the wall of muscle in planning. Come on people, he had feelings too. Aaaaand they were on to the lesson and Mo was pulling scarves over Dima. Yup. Seemed legit. She casually reached over and tugged it all the way down, loosening it a bit (if not too much). HE WAS WELCOME and now she could concentrate on the question about the what? Placement charm?' "It's a neat charm that puts things places so you don't have to. Brilliant for those days you can't be bothered with doing things, best done when used with a bunch of other spells that equally leave you having to exert little effort to get things done." But this wasn't from HER personal view, because half the time the Gryffindor wasn't lazy. Nope. |
Placement charm. Couldn't Fuller see the answer to the question was right in the name of the charm? No. Well, maybe he just needed to do more reading or hear himself more clearly. Pretty obvious what it was about and it seemed like everyone was practically giving the same answer, so Tag just stood back, silently watching the class and what not. What's the point of answering if it'd be the same as what everyone else had said? Pointless. That's right. |
Demelza was freezing. So, naturally, she was wrapped up in all of her winter gear and in one of the blankets that had been provided. Why couldn't they be inside where it was nice and warm? It was not healthy for a future actress to be exposed to such conditions. If she got ill, this girl knew exactly who to blame. She would certainly be guilt-tripping the handsome professors in front to take care of her if she did end up getting a fever. Actually, that didn't sound like a bad idea at all. Hmm... There were winged horses here? Oh, well, would you look at that. Since getting to the lake, she had been busy daydreaming rather than paying any attention to the horses. Just saying. But the seventh year Gryffindor was focused when Professor Pretty Hair started the class. Already everyone was talking about what the Placement Charm did and all that. But Demelza raised her hand anyway. "Professor, the charm was used when I was at WADA to temporarily fix scripts after levitating them to a preferred height during table-reads. This was so we didn't have to hold the scripts out in front of us ourselves while reading through them out loud." But she didn't use the spell then. She held her scripts with her own two hands, thank you very much. Talk about dedication. |
Text Cut: Cutty HA! Of course he wouldn't admit to it. "Oh, no. Toasty as toast." She smirked, looking away and toward the Thestral. She shuddered, pinning it on the cold and wrapping the blanket tighter around herself. Oh, look, the professors. THE professors. And the lesson began, robbing all of Beverly's attention... Text Cut: Professor Fuller Beverly let out the tiniest of disappointed sigh when Professor Fuller mentioned they weren't going to talk about winged horses just yet. Her life was divided in four different areas: Dad and brother (package deal), dragons, food and winged horses. So, of course she was excited to discuss all that was winged horses. Maybe even that Thestral, although it made her uncomfortable. The Placement Charm? That was an easy one. She raised her hand. "The Placement Charm does what the name says. It places an object wherever the caster desires without them having to touch the item or move from their spot." Simple, yeah? And...it could come in useful in the library. Yes, yes it could. Especially to those not blessed with inches and inches of height. Ahem. |
Adelaide shivered a little at the cold. She grab another blanket that was close to her and wrapped it around herself. She didn't want to sit on the cold ground so that was the only option...now what was the question? Placement charms. Right. Of course Addi knew all about those, but everyone else had already answered. No sense repeating what had already been said. Besides, that would require her taking her warm and toasty arms out from under the blanket. |
Placement Charm. Penelope's first thought on them was that they were used to tame kelpies, like for that wandlore seminar a couple terms ago. She hadn't gotten to use it then since she wasn't allowed to go on the field trip, but she knew about it. That answer about kelpies had already been given anyway, so she was just gonna stay silent for now. Silent and trying to stay warm. |
A placement charm was........irrelevant. As per usual the rest of his classmates had gotten to the definition before he could even say anything. Y'know, not that he would have 'cause he just didn't want to be subjected to talking. Ever. At least not in pseudo-pretty's class. PSEUDO BECAUSE HE WASN'T, yeah? Anyway. He crossed his arms and finished out his thought. At least in his head people weren't throwing up inane answers to prove how smart they were. A placement charm was basically a way to restrain things or objects or animals or people without having to touch them to do it. |
Text Cut: Replies are in here! Once everyone who wanted to had spoken up about what they knew about the Placement Charm, Professor Fuller went on. ”Excellent answers, everyone. You were all right. The Placement charm simply moves an object from point A and secures it to point B, whatever that point is.” So, really, everyone who answered was right. Except for the kid with the scarf over his face. He wasn’t so sure about that one. ”A few of you made excellent points, as well. While the Placement charm is similar to Windgardium Leviosa, they also have their differences. That levitation charm simply just levitates the object, while the placement charm can actually move the object to a different point and stick it there, just like you all said.” Props to them smart little studentsies. ”So todaaayy,” he started slowly, somewhat for a dramatic effect, ”we will also be learning about winged horses. If you haven’t made a guess already, you’ll see in a little while what the placement charm and those creatures have to do with each other.” He was going to let them use their imagination. ”For now, go ahead and give your undivided attention to Professor Thompson and he’ll teach you all you need to know about these creatures..” He gestured to the man beside him. All yours, Javy. |
Early on when the class had entered, Professor Thompson remained silent returning each and everyone's greetings. It was quite chilly out, as he every now and then rubbed his hands together. Other than that and the sharp look he gave Professor Fuller when he suggested the students could step on Professor Morgan, he was all good standing by the Thestral while Piers did his thing first... and now it was his show. "Thank you, Piersie.." Oops. looks like that nickname for him was contagious. Heh. Moving on.. Quote:
"Now then, to ease anyone's confusion there is in fact a Thestral right by me." Taking a fresh apple from his pocket, he then dropped it in front. The students who were able to see the Thestral knew what was coming. The majority of the rest.. got to see the apple appear to magically disappear chunk by chunk into nothingness. "The Thestrals here are considered gentle creatures despite their appearance and reputation as associating with omens and death, because only those who have seen another person's death and accepted the circumstance of it are only able to see them." Just for the basic facts. Using his wand, the thirty-three year old Professor gently tapped the board behind him with it, making the words start visually appearing onto it. Yep, notes were happening. Piersie. Iiiiinteresting. But anyway, Marigold was interested in more than just the nicknames of Professors, no matter how cool and funny they were. She wrote some notes out about sticking charms and how they differ from levitation, but was finished quickly enough that she put her quill down before Javy started talking. ...there were THESTRALS!? She couldn't see them. Nope. Not even after two deaths in her family in two years, she couldn't see that. Whether the horse was basically taunting her about the fact she wasn't there when her grandpa died or just a grim reminder, Marigold didn't appreciate it. Which is why she took the opportunity to change the subject. "One breed is a Pegasus. They're used in Greek myths and stuff." So a bit of fiction. |
SPOILER!!: Fuller SPOILER!!: Thompson So it was a Thestral. Aha, he had been correct... A lump formed in his throat when the memory of the car accident began flooding into his mind again. The sirens and flashing lights... No. He had to stop. He dismissed the thoughts away and refocused on the lesson at hand. Simon continued to gaze at the Thestral for a little while longer until he realized there were notes being written on the board. He quickly pulled out his notebook and began taking notes. They'd be useful later. After listening to the Professor's question about other breeds of Winged Horses, he paused and let the information set in. Breeds of Winged Horses? Oh, he knew one of the answers. He had just read about this the other day. In his mind, he searched hungrily for the answer. When he found one of the breeds, he raised his hand. "Professor, the Aethonan is a breed of winged horse. There popular in Ireland and Great Britain," he explained. |
Cris was glad that Professor Fuller hadn't pointed out his harness vs bridle mistake in front of the class. One point for Professor Fuller. Now for the question Professor Thompson raised. "Professor another breed is the Abraxans. I believe they are the largest breed. They are most popularly known for pulling the Beauxbaton carriages. Their name is supposedly derived from Abraxas, one of the horses of Aurora. Their hair color is white and the feathers are blue. Totally awesome color combination, I think." |
