Strategically placed in front of the seating area for viewing purposes is a large plexiglass dome that at first glance appears to only house an myriad of harmless magical plants that once sat in the abandoned greenhouses. But if you step closer to the entrance, you'll notice the sign that reads 'Butterfly Hunting' along with instructions on how this station works and rack of butterfly nets.
The outside view makes the dome appear to be some sort of forest, and the inside view is no different. Working similar to a magical tent, the inside is double the size of the actual dome and it's much warmer in here than it has been in the entire castle for months. There is a dirt path that trails through the entire dome, doubling back on itself several times and finally leading out towards the exit on the other side. In between the two doors are dozens of plants scattered about, some surrounding small ponds and benches, moving at their own free will and others are very much stationary and mundane.
But the plants are not why you're here. It's the hundred of butterflies that fly through the air and rest on the plants, literally glowing with magic. They seem peaceful and easy to catch, but these magical butterflies are anything but. Most of them are larger than the average butterfly, some flying faster than you can run and others slow enough to creep up on but that doesn't make them easier to catch, for these butterflies also have the ability to do marvelous things such as disappear on sight into other areas of the dome, shoot sparks out of their antennaes when feeling threatened, hopping from plant to plant, and some just like to tickle. Try not to get bogged down by those.
The point of this section is to catch as many magical butterflies in your net as you can before reaching the other side. It only takes a few minutes to make it through the entire course, and whoever comes out on the other side with the most from their group that they entered with, will win a special surprise.
Good luck, and have fun students!

Rules/Guidelines:
You can't die or be seriously injured in here.
These are magical butterflies and they can't be easily caught, so have fun and make it a challenge for your character!
They also won't eat you.
Do not use the butterfly nets as weapons against each other.
No wands, butterfly nets only.
Once a butterfly is safely in the net, they can't escape.
Before heading over to his station, Kaiden had stopped over at the snacks table to snag a drink and something to munch on. After all, he didn't want to be caught eating all the prize gummies. Taking a swig of his sports drink, he saddled up to the station just as things started to get underway. “Hey, Head Girl.” he said giving her a smile and holding out an extra bottle of the sports drink. “Thought you might like one of these.” Stowing his drink out of the way, the Hufflepuff looked around. “Things are looking pretty good so far. I just hope no one falls into one of the ponds.” He glanced around at the kids. If they fell in, he wasn't gonna dry them off. They could do the spell themselves, or walk around wet for being dumb and careless.
Picking up a net, Kaid figured it would be wise to mill about the dome. You know, to make sure kids were hunting monarchs, not housemates. “Is everyone doing alright!” he called out, loudly, causing most of the butterflies in the area to flutter off. It was important though, just to make sure.
While he was out there, walking between the plants and everything else, that’s when he saw her. Man, she was so.... yeah, he just stopped and watched her in wonder. He didn't even realize when one of the magical butterflies landed on his head, he was so mesmerized by beautiful girl who was admiring her surroundings.
The butterflies were disturbed. Very disturbed, not as disturbed as her nerves were when she heard the voice. He was there right...that was bound to happen when dating a prefect and attending the prefect events.
Grinning to herself she just stood there for a moment as she contemplated actually catching a butterfly. Did she want to get the ultimate prize...or did she just want gummy? Really was it even a question. Gummy all the way.
So she just needed to catch fewer than five then right? Fewer than five and she could eat one...like Harvey almost did that one time she thought to herself with a punctuated laugh. Turning around she couldn't help but smile when she saw his face, sure, he was staring at her and under other circumstances that could have been creepy. But the dopy happy grin was almost wonderful.
"Sorry" she mumbled as she lifted her net and proceeded to swing it down toward his head. If she hurt him she'd try to help him later...right now she just wanted the butterfly that was walking on his hair and seemed to be traveling toward his forehead.
WHAM, it was only a light wham really...but it might have sent stars to his eyes she didn't know. "I caught it!" She grinned her eyes gleaming happily. "Hey Kaiden," she finally spoke directly to him, still grinning.

I didn't really want to catch any butterflies, but I was just in here to see what it was all about." She glanced around the area then looked back at Simon. "It does look pretty cool in here."
By the time, he had caught some of the butterflies and missed the other half. "Hmm. Good catch," she said, watching the half that flew away. Not that it was hard for him to catch them anyway. They were on him, after all. She nodded at the snitch comment. "You know, I thought the same thing. This kind of reminds me of when I played on the house team last year." That seemed like forever ago, although, that might be because she hadn't played in a while.
She shrugged again. "I'm alright. Just hanging out and seeing what this thing has to offer." She glanced around then looked back at Simon. "You seen Grayson around?" You know...just...because.
"Same. That's why I came in here. I'm not really big into catching butterflies. That's more of my younger sister's thing," he said nodding in agreement. "Yeah, its pretty cool. For a second, I almost thought we weren't trapped in Hogwarts by a blizzard. It reminded me of home." The boy had grown incredibly homesick over the past few days as he was sure that his parents were probably worried sick because they hadn't received any letters from him in a while. Hopefully they'd get out of here before something bad happened, right? He dismissed the thought from his head and then focused on Sophie.
He gave her a kind smile and laughed. "Sure, I'd say that was not too bad. I'm not much of an athletic person. I'm more for studying and swimming," he added. Just imagine if you put Simon in a Quidditch match? Things would go horribly, horribly wrong. He'd probably score for the other team. "Yeah, its sad that we don't have Quidditch this year. I was looking forward to see Slytherin win."" Just because they were the best house.
"Grayson? I thought you were always with him," he said and had to restrain himself from wiggling his eyebrows suspiciously at his fellow She-Snake. Hmmm... Why on earth would Sophie be looking for Merlin? He smirked when she added the last bit. Uh huh. Sure, she was just looking for him 'just because'. Her and half the population of the school. Yes. Yes. He nodded very slowly at her. Anyway, as for her question. "Just because? Alright then....Well I did see him by the Go Kart Race but I think he may be over at the Waiting Area," he said with a friendlier smile gracing his lips. His blue eyes widened slightly when an idea popped into his head. Ooh... Smirk. "Maybe you could ask him to play Quidditch...? I don't know if he does."
Now wait a time turner second..."I'mnotafraidofher." That was uncalled for! Was she trying to provoke him into being a manlier man than of a man he was already??? Not cool, Slytherin! Too much manly is bad news! Look at all the beefy guys around, yikes. He simply didn't want to bring authorial attention to his beautiful face, m'kay?
Swipe! Swipe! Swoop! YOOOOO!! He almost had that one! He fumed frustratedly, not really taking in account his girlfriend's support. "Detention?" SWIPE! He laughed, "Nope! But, that's because I've never been caught." SWOOP! "Yet...and I'd like to keep it that way." The tall boy stated, turning around to look at his girlfriend. She oughta be in sight. She's so small he might accidentally hit her with his net.
Mhmm. Sure, Dec. Wasn't like she was going to judge him for it anyhow. She just found it completely hilarious that he was afraid of her and it happened to be just before they were going to try and catch butterflies. No judgment at all....maybe. Char was just going to let it go though because she knew that if she kept talking about it, he'd get riled up and that just wouldn't be good. For now, she just nodded and decided moving on would be best.
Declan was just having so much fun, despite his frustration, she couldn't help but laugh at him..at least a little. "Oh is that right?" Giggle. "What exactly have you not been caught doing?" She had a pretty good idea of what he was referring to, partly, but she was really curious about all of the bad things he had done or was doing.. "I wouldn't tell anyone! There's no point in having a bofriend if he's in detention all the time." She wouldn't be able to bug him as much and at least now she could see him after classes and whatnot.
Smiling up at him, she blew a kiss at him and continued walking, waving her net around. No way she was going to catch butterflies like that.

Ahem. Right. Manly thoughts. He should have some of those... He'd need to roll around in mud or something after this to make up for it.
"Yeah." he said abut trying to get the striped one. "You go left and I'll go right?" he suggested.
Marigold smiled at her boyfriend person before setting her focus to the task on hand. Which was hard. Because of previously mentioned boyfriend person.
"Okay. And we'll try and… sneak up on it?" If you could sneak up on a butterfly.
So slowly, she crept up to the butterfly. Maybe if she pretended she wasn't looking at it… yes… she hummed a bit. She wasn't trying to catch that butterfly, nope, not at alll…
POUNCE!
Pout. She didn't get it. Maybe Mitch would have better luck with the striped one, which was fluttering a bit higher now. She looked down, sad about her defeat by a BUTTERFLY… whAT!?
She had caught a butterfly!!!! Just not the one she had been aiming for. Ahem. She hair flipping her way back to facing the boyfriend. "I caught one!" Excited squeal. Except… what did she do now?
"Hello, Professor Glendower!" Oooh, she wanted to have a competition. That sounded like fun. Lux loved competitions! They were always more than welcome in this Puff's opinion. Not needing to be told twice, she grabbed a net and started on the hunt. A blue butterfly was flying not too far off, but decided to disappear into thin air as she chased after it. "You sneaky little butterfly." This was not going to deter her; she would win a prize.
Friendly competitions were fun, weren't they? Or at least Professor Glendower thought so and she was glad a few others did as well. She was just about to swoop down on a sparkly purple butterfly when.. it disappeared just as she brought her net down. Huh.. that was odd. "Now where did you..?" She just started to look around for it or another when she heard her name.
"Hello, Lux, dear!" Nessa waved to the girl, smiling brightly, though she couldn't help her mind from going to Victor as she saw her, remembering how very worried she had been about her friend. She did hope that she had been able to go visit him and was glad to see her in good spirits. A little fun could take their minds off of distressful things. "Would you like to join our friendly competition?" Aha, there was Mr. Sparkly Purple! Nessa swished her net over it. "Gotcha!"

So yeah, she probably could use that net she was holding.
Well that was one butterfly caught but Nessa immediately set it free. What else would she do with it? She couldn't exactly keep it captive. The History of Magic professor glided back down the front of the path, nearly skipping happily, as she set her sights on a very large, glowing butterfly. But it was a fast little thing, wasn't it? She increased her gait to try to keep up with it.
"Oh, hello Cassia!" Nessa sang out brightly as she passed by the Head Girl and she greeted her. "This is a lot of fun.. perfect for a day like today." Really, it was because technically it was Spring even though it very obviously wasn't outside. This was a great substitute. "Would you like to join in on our friendly competition?" She eyed the net in the girl's hand and gave her a little wink. She was up by one already, perhaps the Slytherin could do better.

She grinned at him. "Instead, you got attacked by them." Or, they just landed on him all at once, really. "On second thought, maybe we should just hang on to it just in case."
When he mentioned the blizzard, Sophie looked around again. "You know, you're right. I hadn't thought of it that way. So it was all good.
She turned toward the go-carts when Simon mentioned he saw Grayson there. Then...he might be in another area now? "Wow. "Well done!" he said excitedly. "You did great." So great she earned herself a congratulatory kiss on the nose.

He hadn't developed butterfly wings or anything fancy yet. But he could think like a butterfly, right? They had tiny heads, how much thinking could a butterfly do?!
Flowers. Right. Head Girl was so clever. They didn't name her head girl for nothing, huh? "Right! I'll do that. I'll cats- catch all the butterflies. CAN I KEEP ONE?!" For Elodie. A happy butterfly to cheer Elodie up. He didn't even caaare about the prizes, if he could just keep one butterfly.
She was glad that her advice was satisfying for him. And hopefully it was helpful else she'd look totally stupid telling people that the butterflies stuck closer to the flowers. But of course that was true, no ? Who didn't know that about the butterflies. And those magical ones weren't different in that aspect. Cassia did notice how they were larger in numbers there when they were setting up the dome and all. They might have scattered now a bit due to the number of people that were here now.
"I'm sure you can, you just have to be fast," she told him encouragingly. Someone had to catch butterflies and get the prizes! As for his question, she paused considering how to answer it. "I am not sure you can provide the butterfly the environment it would want to live in," she said. "And you wouldn't want it to be sad, right?" A sad butterfly, who would want to cause that!

Finally someone who was actually able to catch butterflies! For a moment there, the snake was going to alter the rules and tell them to use their bloody wands. Good to know that it wasn't necessary. Apparently they just needed to concentrate and do less chatting and more working. "I would love to!" Take part in the competition that is. While she stood here watching people not catching he butterflies, she might as well join them. It was starting to get irritating.
With the net in her hands already, she fixed her eyes on the closest butterfly and swung! Missed by half an inch. Okay, ,maybe it wasn't that easy. "And I'm glad you like it," She smiled at the professor. Everyone worked hard on this one like they did on the others.

Her fellow prefect was here. She was starting to think that he was off at one of the other stations playing and having fun. Turned out he was just picking up a drink. Understandable. And he brought her one! How nice of him. Cassia paused her hunting and accepted the drink. "Thank you, Kaiden," she smiled at the Hufflepuff. This was most appreciated. "Yeah, all is good, though not many has managed to catch butterflies," She hoped that that would change.
Fall into the ponds. That would be cool if it happened. Like really. Maybe she could push someone. Ahem. Totally kidding. not really

While she tried to catch butterflies herself, she kept an eye on those nearby. A lot of them were so close to catch ones on more than one occasion. Like this boy! Who was accompanied by a fellow snake whose name she couldn't remember right now. "You know, it would be so nice if you won a butterfly pendant for your girlfriend," she told the boy as she passed him. Casually motivating people here. Ahem.

DID SOMEONE SAY THEY CAUGHT ONE!
Cassia whipped her head around searching for that one person. THERE! "Way to go!" she told the girl, Marigold was the name wasn't it. "Catch more than five and you get a pretty pendant," mhhm. If she could catch more why not try it. And if she couldn't the butterflies gummies were really delicious, too.

Speaking of authorial figures, he felt one near him (Cassia). HEDIDN'TDOANYTHING.THEY HAVE NO EVIDENCE. HE DESERVES A FAIR TRIAL. HE'S INNO-wait. He wasn't getting in trouble. Pffft. Of course. He knew that. A butterfly pendant? For his girlfriend? He can do that!! And being that his cousin (Marigold) was already in the lead for catching one meant that he had to step up his game. In all fun and games sort of way, y'know? The boy didn't want to start some sort of family rivalry with one of his favorite cousins. Nope!
Dec dodged the questions his girlfriend was firing at him by running past her after a butterfly. "Sorry! Can't talk! Gotta win something for you!" SWIIIIPE! Aww. Miss. He doubled back after one that flew by him, pausing to plant a kiss on Char's forehead, and then running after it again.

He could keep the net? Awesome. "Err.. Thanks," he said, moving the net back to the left side of his body. He nodded and then chuckled. "Yes, I was horribly attacked by them. I guess they were attracted to the awesomeness of my Slytherin scarf." Yes, butterflies were scary. Definitely scary. He nodded his head a couple of times. "Yes, we should do that. Never know when they'll come by again and attack you." It was true. They were both dressed in Slytherin colours so that meant that they would eventually get covered in butterflies.
"My thoughts exactly. Why can't we morph the whole school into something like this?" he agreed. Smiling at her, he nodded again as she spoke about Quidditch. "Oh really? Well that makes sense. Playing on your own free time is fun though I've never played Quidditch before." He wasn't really the sporty type and he hadn't even watched a game of it. He had heard about how it was played but still he had never seen it. Maybe one day he'd go to the Quidditch World Cup and watch it. That'd be awesome!
He nodded. "He does," he said with a slight smirk. He wasn't going to let the whole teasing Sophie about Mr. Grayson. It was too fun. He nodded. "Yeah, its something that good friends do, right?" he said. He didn't even know if Grayson played Quidditch but it was still worth a shot. Then all of a sudden, he paused and decided to let go of teasing Sophie about it. He'd be nice... for once. "Grayson's a cool mate." He nodded. Yep.

Marigold beeeeeeeamed. She would catch a lllllll of the butterflies if that was her reward.
"Oh no you don't" Nessa laughed as the spark-shooting butterfly flew out of her net and she chased after it again. As she glided down the path after it, she turned her head as she heard a 'hello professor.' Hmm, that was meant for her, wasn't it? She didn't see any other professors around. "Oh, hi Emmylou!" she beamed at the girl and her friends. Had they gotten any butterflies yet? It looked like they had only gotten here and hadn't yet begun. And Kace was totally up for the challenge! "Fantastic! A little competition sounds fun, doesn't it?" She thought so anyway and it was all just for fun besides. "Grab some nets, let's get started!" And she hadn't really caught any yet - she wouldn't count the sparky one - so level playing field.
Kace was glad the professor was joining the butterfly hunt. It made the whole experience a lot more fun and interesting. He smiled and went to go get his net. As he tested it and made sure it was the right one, he went back to the Professor and asked, "Have you ever butterfly hunted before?"

OH Cinnamon was here! Perfect now the game can begin. He always like friendly competition with his friends. He saw Lux starting the butterfly hunt and then began to look for his. He saw an orange and black one and he had his eyes set on it. He crept on it slowly and he missed it when someone to the right of him ran and it scared it off. Grrr...!!! SO CLOSE! Alright onto the next victim.
He saw a blue one near Lux and it looked like his brother. He crept on it and caught it by surprise and he got it! WOHOO! One down! Now to get more to win.

Oooh and another contender for their little game! Nessa beamed at the young Ravenclaw. "Hi Penelope!" And she seemed ready with her net already. "Alright.. let's see who can catch the most!" Didn't she see something about prizes? Not that she would consider herself in the running for anything like that, even if she did win she'd allow a student to have a prize, but it was still all in good fun. Her brown eyes soon locked on a sparkly purple butterfly landing near a cluster of chiming bluebells. Nessa crept up on it very quietly and swooped her net upon it.
"Hello, Professor Glendower!", she replied to the professor. "Do you like butterfly hunting?" Had the professor hunted for butterflies before? Penelope enjoyed catching butterflies. This was going to be fun, even if she didn't catch a bunch of butterflies.
Penelope walked over to the flowers were the butterflies were. She swooped her net down on one that was just sitting there, but it disappeared at the last second. Maybe if she didn't move as much, the butterflies wouldn't disappear before she could catch them.
Standing very still, she waited for the butterflies to settle again. One butterfly landed on a flower. Being very careful not to move too much, Penelope moved her net down on the butterfly as fast as she could, so it would not disappear before she could catch it. The butterfly was in her net. She had caught one. Now she was ready to catch more.

It was nice to see Professor Glendower catch a butterfly. Maybe she would have some luck herself soon enough. These butterflies sure were crafty little things; made the game more fun in her opinion. "I love competitions, so you can definitely count me in!"
Kace catching one right by her gave her a slight startle, only because she had felt as if he would have hit her with his net instead. Actually that would have been rather funny. Lux the human butterfly. Smiling to herself and enjoying this nice distraction, she went about looking for another butterfly so that she would not lose this little competition.
Moving around the area, she spotted a white one. "AHA!" Catching it by surprise, the butterfly was swooped up in her net. Looking at the little creature closely, she took note of just how pretty it was.

Standing really still seemed to be working to catch the butterflies. Penelope stood near the flowers again, waiting for the perfect moment to catch one by suprise. Seeing a butterfly near her, she crept up on it and swooped her net upon it. She had caught another butterfly. This was fun.
Was he really just going to ignore her questions?! She was sure he knew she'd just bring them all up again later anyway! Sighing at the kiss on her forehead, Char ran after him and waved her net around to pretend she was trying. "You're supposed to be keeping me safe from evil magical butterflies, Declan Hazelwood!" If she had known she was going to have to exert this much energy just to spend a day with the boyfriend and catch butterflies, she really would have just stayed cuddled up in her freezing dorm.
He was just a few steps ahead of her so she stopped and looked around at all of the butterflies and people failing at catching them. It couldn't be that hard, right? Charlotte found one just in front of her and swiped her net to try and catch it but instead of catching it, the butterfly flew up and towards her and she freaked. "HELP!!" She ducked and might have screamed a bit (even though the butterfly didn't actually fly near her. Clearly, she was not made out for this kind of thing. "I'M BEING ATTACKED."

Evil magical what??? Declan shook his head, laughing. "There are no evil magical butterflies, Char Stylinson!" If he would have to save a damsel in distress from butterflies, that would be a first.
He had gone a bit further in, chasing this one butterfly that kept disappearing and reappearing on him, when he heard this blood-curdling scream that almost made him jump out of his skin. The boy whipped his head around to see his girlfriend shrinking away from a teeny weeny butterfly that wasn't all that close to her.
All it took was a two steps and a swoop to capture the oh-so-evil butterfly in his net. "I think this butterfly felt sorry for you, Char." He joked, "It didn't even put a fight!" Looks like there's a first for everything. LOL. BUT, HEY! At least he finally caught one!!!!

NO EVIL BUTTERFLIES?! THEY WERE ALL EVIL. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM AND SHE KNEW IT.
Catching her breath now, she eyed Declan a bit, knowing he was making fun of her and not appreciating it one bit. "Listen, I have, like, really great eyesight, okay? Soooo great that I see things closer and bigger than they really are!" Mhmm. Totally made sense. "Which is probably why I think you're way more muscular than you are!" And she really really didn't have to go there at all but she did anyway. She didn't like that she'd made a fool out of herself and now she was trying to get back at Dec for noooo good reason. Totally uncalled for really.
"Anyway, so yeah. Evil butterflies....at least you caught one."

He eyed the shorter girl back. Was she now making fun of his eyesight? For her information, he was FINE with not perfect eyesight until she came along and this butterfly was not evil, perfect vision or not!
More muscular, what?! She should be happy that he's pretty strong even though he's rather lanky! "I'm proud of my body how it is." He mumbled, sticking his nose in the air.
Dec began walking in the opposite direction spotting an unsuspecting butterfly, "Yeah, I did. And I'm about to catch another one." CHAAARGGGEE!!

Yep.
Sophie smirked when Simon thanked her for the butterfly net. She could tell he was less than amused, but who could blame him? She sort of got the feeling that neither one of them was really all that interested in catching the butterflies. "Well, Slytherin is pretty awesome, so who can really blame the butterflies for being attracted to that scarf?" she jokingly replied. There weren't any butterflies around at the moment, so she turned her attention to the scenery around her. It really made her miss the warmer weather...
"You've never played Quidditch before?" she asked, her eyes widening a little. "I thought everybody had played Quidditch at least once." She had always had the impression that when kids got to be a certain age, their parents always introduced them to a game of Quidditch.
Nevermind that, though. They were back to talking about Grayson, which drew in all of Sophie's attention. "Yeah. Good friends," she said, nodding. She had a crush on Grayson, which she was sure Simon had picked up on. A part of her kind of wished she and Grayson were more than just 'good friends', but she'd never say that aloud. She shifted her weight from one foot to the other, suddenly nervous.
Looking around, she noted where things looked like they were wrapping up, so she guessed the event would be over soon. "Well, have fun catching the butterflies," she said with a grin. "Or protecting yourself from them." Heh. "I think I'm going to head out a little early. I'll see ya around." Then with that, she headed off.

Now people were doing well! She was glad to see them catching butterflies. It turned out they only needed a bit of time to get used to the nets and figure out how the butterflies moved and all. Good! She wasn't disappointed.
Seeing that there was quite a good number of people who have caught a good amount. Or so she thought, better to make sure of that because prizes! She figured giving out some now would be encouraging. Walking over to the prizes box, the snake put down her net and drew out her wand then cast a silent Wingardium Levoisa before she walked back to where the kids gathered.
"Prizes on the way, people!" Mostly gummies now because she wasn't sure any have caught five or more, but it's okay there was still time. And she was going to let the one who caught five both a pendant and butterfly gummies. She was just nice like that.
