While the rest of the class had filed in and Flamsteed made with the greetings and stuff, Toby had opened up the packet and already taken out a balloon too. He'd been about to start blowing it up with Soph sat beside him, but deviated from that to give her a bright grin. And then a few moments after THAT, the class had started, and Airey mentioned leaving the balloons IN the bag, so Toby hurriedly stuffed it back inside. Nothing going on here. Nope. .................. JOGGING LAPS???!!?11!?!!?!??!1!1?!?!!!ONE!!?!11?!1! At the mere suggestion of getting to do such a thing in class, Toby's expression positively lit up and his eyes sparkled. He flashed another grin to Soph when he sensed her looking at him, and jumped straight up out of his seat. The extra layers could make this a very sweaty process, but whatever. RUNNING. Toby ran. It was hard to keep it down to a jogging pace if he was honest, but the important part was that they were able to move. And Airey had asked them a question, and Toby was pretty sure the answer had been said a few times over, so he simply said the next word to come to mind. "Volcano!" Runrunrunfromthelava. |
There might have been some fiddling with her packet of balloons. If Airey was already working on some then it must have been acceptable right? Wrong. They weren't going to be blowing up anything until after they did some jogging apparently. Given the temperature outside and the way she felt absolutely cramped on the inside having lost the privilege of going outside, Lex wasn't bothered. Hell she was all too happy to hop out of her seat and get into the poorly constructed line of joggers. Oh look, even Airey was jogging with them. The question could have had severeal answers if you really thought about it and given she didn't know which he was looking for she went with the most obvious response. Those were all the basic ingredients for, "This lesson today." Jog jog jog. Unless they were completely unrelated in which case nevermind her, she would jsut...get warmed up jogging in her own little bubble over here. Ahem. |
Bay smiled when the balloon popped, he he he. ohhh they needed to be doing some running.. jumping up he followed everyone else in the room… doing laps.. and what he had to answer questions while he was running… talk about multitasking.. Almost out of breath he said "the atmosphere?" he really wished he could stop and take a drink right now. panting and sweating he wondered when they were going to stop all the running.. because he was plenty warm now. |
Airey varied his pace a bit as he took off jogging around the classroom and even turned about so he was jogging backwards to look at the pack of students following behind him. Oh yes, he was going to stay in front of the class even during their jogging. He was the professor after all, and contrary to what appearances may imply, rather fit. Clearing the occasional obstacle with his wand as he lead the way, he turned back around after giving students a few moments of thinking time and was greeted by a chorus of answers. STELLAR! Although it may be a bit difficult to differentiate between them all. He hadn’t entirely thought this through. Oops. Quote:
And that was all he had. Quote:

SPOILER!!: the FART answer and the misinterpretated FART answer :3 He couldn’t tell who had shouted out the answers involving bodily functions - probably a pair of first years who were vertically challenged and therefore he couldn’t see them - but he wasn’t amused. “I am not amused!” he called out to the general crowd. “We will not be discussing flatulences today or any day.” Quote:

Because what better way to study the atmosphere than to go up into it? “Will certainly keep that in mind for the future!” Quote:

So instead of answering, he lifted up his one hand and did the Vulcan salute as he continued to lead the group around the classroom at a brisk jog. Quote:

SPOILER!!: ATMOSPHERE PEOPLE! “OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH, WE’RE HALF WAY THEEEEEEEEEEERE!” he sang. Because they were sort of half way there. Well, more like one fifth of the way there, but anyway. So yes, it did have something to do with the atmosphere, but only with a specific part of it. More on that later though. SPOILER!!: STORM (NOT THE X-MEN) SORT OF ANSWERS! Yes! YES! They were getting closer now! Although thus far Mr. Branxton had come the closest to the response he was looking for. “YES! And storms are a part oooooooooooooooof…” he called as he frolicked forward. SPOILER!!: THE SILENT JOGGERS! “Keep it up!” he called to everyone, but mostly to be encouragement for those who did not answer. Not everyone was gifted with the talent of multitasking. At least he wasn’t asking them to jog and chew gum at the same time, right? Heh. He was actually starting to get a bit out of breath from all the talking, failing, and jogging. Not to mention the whole brief burst into song. SPOILER!!: WEATHER PEOPLE! DING DING DING! WE HAVE THE WINNERS! Although all the answers were stellar in their own way. Save for the ones about flatulence. That was just plain wrong. "Weather! YES! That was the answer I was looking for!" he exclaimed as he leaped a few times to show his excitement. "When you combine all of these ingredients in the Earth's thermosphere you get the weather. Now, we think of temperature as how warm or cold something is. But the reality is that temperature is caused by molecules zooming around. The faster they zoom, the warmer it gets, just like how you are all zooming around and getting warmer." See? Method to his madness. And he wasn't done just yet. "Now, Miss McAlistor demonstrated something just a few moments ago when she gave the wall a whack with her hand." Very good, by the way. She was clearly on the same page with him in terms of demonstrations. "These molecules in the Earth's atmosphere are constantly bouncing each other and everything else around them - your arm, the ground, a tree....just for some examples - and they exert a force on those surfaces. The force exerted by these air molecules bouncing off things is called air pressure. Now, I want you all to try this out by GENTLY bumping into one another. BE THE MOLECULE! THINK LIKE A MOLECULE! We already know that as air molecules move faster that the temperature rises, but what happens to air pressure when the temperature goes up?" How did it feeeeeeel when someone bumped into them? Hmmmmmm? OOC: please do not have your character cause any serious injury while they are bumping into others :3 |
ohhhh WEEEEEEEE he got to slow down now and start to bump into people, this was a lot better then just straight up running.. slowing down he gently bumped into some students that were around him saying quietly "Sorry"…."Sorry" and he made sure that he didn't hit these people too hard. didn't want to make any enemies. |
Text Cut: Airey 1 He didn't notice her face, thank Merlin. Sitting down she pressed her cheek against the desk and switched to the other cheek moments later. It helped...? Maybe. Her face didn't feel as warm anymore. She was up at the loud POP. Ugh. That is WHY she didn't like balloons. They did that awful sound. Despite herself, though, Beverly was amused at Professor Airey. They were getting up and moving? Beverly was okay with that, yes. The lack of moving about the grounds and stuck inside all day left the Slytherin building up with energy and that got her antsy. Without as much of a second thought, she stood up and fell into the mass of jogging students and an Airey. Pressure, temperature, volume and density. Beverly shouted the first thing that came to mind. "GASES." No one laugh. Text Cut: Airey 2 Bump into people. Are you serious, Airey? Beverly didn't like people touching her House points. Think house points, Wayne. Erasing the scowl from her face, but still looking a bit grumpy, Beverly bumped against someone. Gently as Professor Airey said. Then another person and another and another. It was annoying when someone bumped into her, but it was sort of fun when SHE bumped into someone. Bump, bump, bump. |
Jogging...jogging...jogging. They were jogging to keep warm in the cold astronomy classroom while the lesson was proceeding. Benny himself was just trying to keep himself moving while listening to both Professor Flamsteed and his fellow students who were discussing what everything was apart of. Finally the answer was given and somehow it made sense. Weather fit the mood, what with all the freezing cold temperatures and blizzard conditions that were happening right around them. The third year wasn't much into crashing into anyone, but he did consider the question given. "Does the air pressure get thicker....or...or..." What was the word? Benny tried to what what he was getting at with his response, the boy finally guessing. "...denser?" |
All of this jogging was making Jasmine warmer so if that was the Professor's objective, objective achieved. Of course there was a method to his madness.....a lesson. Now he wanted everyone to bump into each other. Reluctantly, Jasmine complied by gently bumping the nearest student. BUMP There was also a question to be answered. We're they supposed to raise their hands while running or just continue to shout out their responses? Sort of raising her hand, Jasmine said, "I think that the air pressure increases as the temperature rises". Looking around for another student to bump, Jasmine continued jogging. |
Ooph. Simon was getting quite warm from doing all of this physical exercise. His cheeks were becoming more red by the second. He focused on his breathing and then listened to Airey explain what they were going to be doing. Could they slow down soon? He was running out of breath. THINK like a molecule? Simon blinked. How? How did one do such a thing? What did molecules think of? He didn't know. Did they think of what precise velocities that they were going to generate to fling themselves at a neighbouring molecule. Oh boy, if only they knew. The boy was pretty sure, however, that molecules didn't have their own thoughts though he'd play along with the notion because it was a rather cool concept. So they had to very gently collide into someone? Simon smirked. That sounded sort of fun to the Slytherin. Someone bumped into him. Or had he bumped into them? Simon didn't know. "Uhh.. sorry," he said as he gently was pushed or bumped into another person. He was quickly losing his personal space with all these collisions happening. Grin and bear it. Grin and bear it, Simon. You'll survive, he told himself as he began to feel like one of those pin ball machines that one would find in old muggle arcades. "Doesn't air pressure increase?" |
Hehe *bumps into Bay* Whooop, she and the other people who said weather got it right. Go them! This was so much fun, and Lux could understand why Professor Flamsteed had them running. Not only was it to warm up, but it was to make a demonstration. This was another reason why he was her favourite Professor. She was a molecule moving around, and she needed to bump into other molecules. Oooh, there was one! Bay. BUMP. "Haaaai there." Hehe. This was so much fun. Who could she hit next? |
Grayson had half a mind to continue the song. Half a mind, mind you. But no. No singing was coming from the fourth year today. Okay. If they were going to talk about the weather, was there going to be a lightbulb moment where they figured out WHY it was snowing so much? Were the molecules around the place just being freaking lazy and not bumping into each other as much as they should? Because that was not acceptable. His mum usually told him off for being lazy and someone needed to tell the molecules that too, mkay? But the idea of bumping into someone on purpose? Yes. Yes. FREAKING YES. First, he was going to try and answer that question about air pressure. "Air pressure goes up too, I think" he said, his hand in the air, "If the molecules move around faster and bump into each other and regular things more, the pressure's bound to go up." Logic. Now it was the fun part. Grayson was a bull and he was going to CHARGE -- gently or whatever -- towards the person directly in front of him. Chaaaaaarge.......... ......... slow motion charging........ ............. and BUMP! Gently. Yo. |
Runrunrunrunrun. While doing absolutely nothing to quell his high levels of energy, this moving about was certainly helping to warm up Tobias Tempus. In fact, he was already pretty sweaty, and he reached up a hand to push his hair off of his sweaty brow as he jogged. Next time he would not wear all these layers. Okay. And now they were... PLAYING BUMPER CARS? Or, well... actually they were playing Molecules, but it was an awful lot like that old playground game of bumper cars. Without hesitation, Toby crossed his arms over his chest, like in the old game, and went on moving about. He was careful to try and slow down because he didn't want to HURT anybody, but other than that Toby was totally engrossed. As for the question, the Hufflepuff tried his darnedest to give his input. What happens to air pressure when temperature goes up? "Up. Things move and bounce and go faster and heat up more." As he spoke his words came out quickly and excitably, further illustrating his point. "The faster they move the more they bounce. More force from bouncing. Higher pressure." Something like that. Whatever, Toby was busy literally bouncing off the walls. |
Lex caught the look the Professor had given for her response and gave a wide grin in response. He may have been trying to look unamused but it didn't prevent Lex from feeling accomplished in her response, if only for his reaction. How many other people got that look huh? She thought as much. 'Sides, if he really minded she'd know and considering he didn't she could keep jogging around the room while they talked about weather and molecules. Fancy stuff-- Hang on. They were going to be bumping into each other now? Like on purpose? This sounded a lot like that road rage stuff Jun had told her about only less violent on account of the Professor saying they had to do it gently--Ooph! Lex whipped around, trying in vain to see who might have bumped into her but ended up being bumped into by yet another person. And what was all this talk about air pressure increasing? She could hardly concentrate between bumps and trying to keep her balance as she jogged. Interesting way to point a picture if she did say so herself. |
Think like a molecule? Do molecules think? O_O Adi didn't know about that. It was time to bump someone. He leaned towards the person directly ahead of him and...Bump! Gently, of course. Hehe. That was fun. Let's do that again! "I think it's like Jasmine says, Professor. The air pressure rises.'' truth be told, Adi didn't really have much of an idea about air pressure and stuff. He just liked the sound of his Ravenclaw friend's answer. |
Run run run run run run run Alright so they were still running the track and his answer was close enough. He was satisfied! He got it semi correct. Alright so now they had to be like molecules? So they had to bump into each other? This may end badly for some people. Kace would keep some control. He saw Bay and Lux and smirked. He bumped into them and said, "Sorry you two love birds.." he winked at them. He said it jokingly of course. Then he saw Grayson and bumped into him lightly. He was having TOO much fun with this. He was looking for Emmy but could not find her anywhere. Maybe she didn't catch up yet? Then he heard the professor's question. He raised his hand and said, "I think the air pressure increases as the temperature goes up." Because then why did they have humidity when they couldn't even breathe too well? |
Well there it was. It was certainly stellar. Though the real answer was not really stellar. Though certain types of weather were amazing and disastrous. Then he got into his teaching mood and went on a long talk about weather and atmosphere stuff. Interesting if Nigel cared enough about it. Now what was this about bumping/hitting into other people. Because there is no gently hitting into someone. It is either they hit the ground and you laugh. Or you are seriously weak and should work out. Plus there is no controlling air. Air was free spirited. So there. Bump..Hard! Bumping gently is for wussies. |
Wait, they had to bump into other people? Wasn't that dangerous? Well if someone did get hurt it would be Flamsteed's fault because he was the one telling them they were supposed to run into others. Well alright then. Hayden gently bumped her shoulder against the person nearest her. She had no idea who it was. Were they supposed to keep bumping? Hayden moved to her left and sped up just a little so she could bump into someone else, and then fell back again. Oh hi Lex. Hayden honestly had no idea what the answer to the question was. But how could Flamsteed even tell who was answering anyway? They were all just in a big clump. Even if he could see her she still would not have answered because she didn't know the answer, though it seemed everyone else thought they knew. Air pressure increased as temperature did, apparently. |
They were ZOOMING around and getting warmer? Well, the getting warmer bit was true, Leah was quite warm from all this jogging, but she certainly was not zooming around like wheeeeeeeeee. She did not like jogging/running in front of people because it totally messed up her hair. The Hufflepuff slowed down slightly, pretending to pay attention to what Professor Flamsteed was saying. Did molecules even think? This was the first question that came up to the second year's mind as she gently bumped into people around her, not bothering to apologize because hey, she was asked to do this. Leah now focused on how it felt. She was bouncing away from bigger and older students because she was small, but about the air pressure.. Leah was bouncing against people faster now, because she was kind of moving faster as she bumped into other students and the wall. She tried to raise her hand and speak among this confusion. "Air pressure increases!" the girl half-yelled, continuing to bump. |
Text Cut: Flamsteed THUMBS UP. WOOP. Of course the answer was weather. Everyone knew that, deep down. Zooming around and getting warmer they were indeed, and Sophie was glad she hadn't thought to dress in as many layers as some of the other students. But then they had to BUMP INTO PEOPLE and suddenly people were knocking into each other all over - had Nigel missed the specification of gently? - and Soph avoided the violent ones. But she did target people she liked. Jogging along cheerfully, Soph caaasually bumped into Kace, then Leah who was also nearby, then fell back to continue jogging next to Tobes, who got multiple bumps because he was all over the place and he was cute. His answer was good, too, and she gave a big nod of approval in the direction of Flamsteed. YEP. SHE AGREED WITH THAT. |
Be the molecule? Think like a molecule? .... Weird. So weird. As if the first lesson wasn't strange enough. Didn't Hogwarts Professors ever do anything normal? Is this like a wizard thing... Or? Either way, Zander did not feel like bumping. He'd end up with purple bruises everywhere! THWACK Ouch!! Zander winced as someone nearby bumped into him. Ugh. If you can't beat them, join em? The Gryffindor let out a small sigh and reluctantly began running and bumping too. It actually wasn't all that bad. Except for the fact that they had to answer all these questions while doing it. Was this some kind of midevil torture practice or something? Because there was no way Zander could answer that question. It was hard. And he was bumping!! |

They were going to be molecules. Penelope wouldn't be suprised if the activity involved temperature changes in the room as the students moved around. She gently bumped a few people near her, then more people as she jogged a bit faster. The excitement of running around and being a molecule made Penelope feel warmer, and jog faster. No, it was not just the warmth from the jogging. As she jogged faster, she felt warmer. Not hot, but a tingly kind of warm. Was it just her, or was it like this in the room around her? Sometimes Penelope's emotions were reflected in the weather or temperature around her. She wasn't sure if the temperature changes were just around her, where no one could notice, or if it was on a slightly larger scale. As far as she could tell, it was just her affected by temperature and weather changes, but with bumping into other people, she might find out if they could feel anything. "When the temperature goes up, the molecules move faster and bounce more. Because the molecules are moving faster and bouncing more, they exert a greater force on the molecules and surfaces that they bounce off, therefore the pressure is higher. As the temperature increases, the air pressure increases!" Penelope shouted, hoping that the professor could hear her. |
Angel was enjoying herself until the Professor said that they had to bump into each other, that was just wrong, seriously she didn't want to get hurt by any seventh years around, but at the minute she wanted to have some fun, so she decided that she would join and she started bumping into people lightly whilst jogging around. "Professor the molecules move faster when the temperature goes up." Angel shouted out the answer as she thought about it. "Basically when the temperature goes up the molecules move around faster and bump into each other more frequently." Angel wanted to continue on about the weather and things how they got involved but she decided against it because she didn't want to get into trouble. |
Sophie was still moving around throughout the class, grinning as if she had the most mischievous thought ever running through her mind. Really, she was just amused at how they were being allowed to just run into each other in class. It was sort of...fun. Fun, because it was way better than sitting and taking notes or listening to a lecture. Sophie bumped into a few people but listened to the professor as she did so. Hmm...what happened to air pressure as the temperature goes up? Sophie began to think of something like...well, a balloon. "Well, wouldn't it be like that balloon that went KABOOM at the beginning of class?" she asked. Were they supposed to raise their hand while playing human bumper cars? "The more air you put into it while trying to expand it, the more pressure you gave it. Finally, it went KABOOM." |

So yeah, they were talking weather. And apparently they were to try bumping into each other. For academic reasons no doubt. Cassia dialed down her carefulness as she jogged allowing her body to indeed bump into others, she however kept being careful because falling off the tower seemed like a possibility. Searching for the professor, Cassia slowed down considering the question. OH, there he was! "Pressure and temperature are directly proportional to each other, so if one increases so does the other." Back to jogging. |
"KABOOM!" Yep, that's his answer right there. Ethan kept on jogging and concentrated more on moving and gently bumping into other molecules. Oh hey, hi Cassia! Bump. Oh hey, hi fellow Slytherin! Bump. Ethan moved and did exactly what Airey wanted them to do. Breaking his jogging pattern, he moved to bump that tiny Ravenclaw, then bumped into Zander. Hi Zander! And...where is Simon? Grayson? Cutty? He needs to bump his bros too you know. Oh hey look, a wall! BUMP. |
