Bah, they had to go in depth with this? This wasn't really Layla's strong suit, as she really didn't believe in assigning numbers to the past in this way. The past was the past, no matter which way you looked at it. She flipped her notebook to a free page, not knowing how much room she'd need and being only a couple of inches from the bottom of the previous page, and got to work. Once she was done, she eyed her work, making sure it was correct. Text Cut: workage |
Despite all the mentions of food, Benjamin's eyes might have glazed over a bit. All the NEWTs studying had clearly got to the seventh year's brain, and the fact that this lesson didn't really know how to identify itself (food, numbers, history, Mexico?) wasn't helping. Quite simply, Benjamin was brain dead. Brain. Dead. And no, he'd never heard of any Cinco de Mayo celebrations happening in London, despite what Hadley had said. Why were they studying Mexico, again? Blinkblink. Cue another look at Lex. Was she still as bewildered as he was, or was that just the NEWTs brain talking? ...numbers though, he could do. They were logical, and adding up didn't need much brain power right now. He grabbed some parchment and a quill from his bag, and quickly scrawled down the date Domingo had given them. SPOILER!!: Benjy's writing Well, that seemed fitting. Full interpretations weren't likely to be happening soon though. Not when he was STILL trying to figure out the whole Mexico history in Muggle Studies thing. |
Text Cut: hermionesclone He was thanking her? THANKING HER?! If only he knew how bad she had it for him, he would realize he was doing her a favor. Would she EVER tell him that? Well, of course NOT. She knew how to play it cool, and that's just what she did. "Well, thank you for asking," she said with a smile. He started work on the calculations, which seemed to take him about a minute or two longer than she thought it would. Was he only doing the first part? ... She waited until he slid the parchment back toward her then looked down to realize he'd calculated all three. "Well, well," she said, grinning. "Isn't somebody the ambitious one?" GOOD, because she didn't care for the lazy ones. Awesome points, Grayson! She dipped her quill in ink then started on the interpretations. Text Cut: Grayson and Sophie's work Sophie looked over her work one more time, replaced her quill, and then slid the parchment back to Grayson. "Well? How'd I do?" she asked. |
SPOILER!!: Replies She was seeing far too many quills. Hadn't the class announcement specifically said pens or pencils, not quills? This was Muggle Studies, after all. "Estudiantes, quills away. The announcement specifically said pen or pencil and no quill." With a wave of her wand, she Banished each quill into nonbeing. "Now. Hopefully you've seen that Arithmancy is indeed powerful. No matter which form of the date used, the meaning still fits the event." Sometimes these things still amazed her even now. "If you are finished you may relax for a few moments. Professor Hadley will be taking over the next part of the lesson in a few minutes, so hurry up if you have yet to finish." And with that she walked back over to where Fina stood. OOC: You still have a few hours to finish this activity. |
SPOILER!!: Professor Domingo Oh, so he did again? Suuuhhhweeeet! Ethan gave the professor another grin and nod. "Gracias, Señora." Well, he had been studying the Spanish language for some time now, and all though it was a bit hard for the boy he did not stop from learning it. Well, what else can they do inside the castle, yeah? Now that the challenge was done, Ethan sat back and crossed his arms lazily as he waited for the rest to finish. "Come on, slow pokes. We have to get this fiesta started!" he thought as he watched the others finish their task. |
Angel had been double checking the work and it seemed like everything was alright now all she had to do was find meaning for the work and then she was done. SPOILER!!: Work continued Angel looked at her work and smiled, she kind of liked it and she hoped that it was okay. |
Whoops. Hazel remembered the notice about pens and pencils, but she was so used to quills she forgot. Hastily, she reached into her bag and grabbed a pencil. Now, for her interpretations. SPOILER!!: Work She hoped she got the right answers that way they could get to the FOOD! |
Reduce and analyze...well she sorta remembered the reducing part - just adding all the stuff together, right? - but she didn't have a textbook to help with the analyzing stuff. 'Cause really, after two years of not taking Arithmancy, there was no way she'd still remember all the things each number meant. But first, just the reducing since that seemed easier. Text Cut: Penelope's work So assuming she'd done it right...time for analyzing somehow. Maybe she could just guess at it? Text Cut: Penelope's interpretations Meh, that was all she had. Numbers were weird. |

"Not all the ovens, but there's some ground beef warming on the stovetop so it maybe gives some heat?" Actually probably gave off virtually none compared to the chills in the castle. "Do you reckon we're trapped in this cold forever? And why?" She quieted though when Lolita piped up to the class again and scolded them for having quills out. Biting her lip, she waited till the other professor finished before whispering; "Um before they started, didn't you say quills and parchments out? I mean, I know this is muggle studies, but you mentioned both." Attention back on the students. It seemed a few were still finishing jotting down their notes, so Hadley decided to give them a few more moments to finish their thoughts. ooc: we'll resume by this evening, so just relax / take a few more moments to collect your thoughts / etc |
It seemed like she had done an okay job, but Domingo said that she needed to stretch her thinking. AJ thought that was her stretching her thinking, but she would try to add some more information to it. "Hey." Her quill had just shot out of her hand. Muggle studies... right. AJ rummaged around in her bag for a pencil because she now she had to do some erasing. She stared at her work for a moment. What could she add to this? SPOILER!!: Parchment Aj had put a tad more effort into it this go round, and she hoped that Domingo would think so too because that was pretty much all she had. |
It seemed most of them had finished and at least made an attempt at suitable interpretations, which meant only one thing. Time to continue the lesson. And wrap things up nicely with food. "Alright, you may put your parchments and pencils way so they don't get messy. We'll be eating soon." Hadley addressed, continuing. "So as many of you mentioned for cuisine, one of the easiest things to make is tacos! It does not require much skill, except for not breaking the taco shell when you're stuffing it." Which was actually why she had soft taco shells too for those who preferred. "Name one ingredient needed for tacos." It wasn't as if they were rare, unusual ingredients either, so even those with no exposure to the muggle world should know one thing. |

She looked up when Hadley spoke. Oh, well...it looked like it was time to put things away anyway. They were moving on to talking about TACOS! That meant it was almost eating time, which meant there wouldn't be anymore actual assignments. WOOT. So, tacos... Sophie raised her hand. "You need taco shells," she said. That was important, or else you couldn't hold the whole thing together. WOOT--most IMPORTANT ingredient said by SOPHIE NEWELL. |
SPOILER!!: Professor Hadley "GROUND BEEF!" Ethan's hand shot up in the air, and waved it a bit. Ohboyohboy. They are going to eat soon and...TACOOOOS! Yumyum! The Slytherin boy beamed at the professor, seeing that he might have startled the two women up front with his enthusiasm. Waiting for the others to shout their answer, Ethan stuffed his notebook and muggle pencil inside his satchel. Now his workstation's ready to get messy! Yeyeyeah! The blond boy patiently waited as he twiddled his thumbs together. |
TACO MAKING TIME! Simon slipped his Arithmancy notebook into his bag and waited for Hadley to ask them the question. When she did, he wracked his brain, searching for an answer. One ingredient that was in tacos. Hmmm.... Since beef and taco shells had already been mentioned, Simon shot up his hand. "Queso? Cheese, Professor?" he asked. He was pretty sure that cheese was in tacos because all the tacos that he had eaten had cheese in them. But perhaps cheese didn't need to be in tacos. He'd see. |
Well, Adi wasn't using a quill. He had purposefully left the stuff out of his bag today but he couldn't help grinning a bit when he saw AJ's quill vanish. Profesosr Domingo's doing, of course. And there was Hadley speaking again. So it looked like they'd be having tacos. Awesome! Adi raised his hand. "Uhh. Lettuce, Professor.'' Since some of the others had given the main ingredients. |
They were going to make tacos! Jasmine's mouth was watering with just the thought of tacos. Another reminder of home and she could not wait. As her classmates started listing ingredients in response to the Professor's question, Jasmine raised her hand. "You need salsa to top off your tacos." Now could they make them already? She was getting hungrier by the minute. |
Professor ahead let was asking the class for ingredients to make tacos. Someone needed to pinch Lux, because surely she was dreaming. Raising her hand, she called out, "sour cream." |
Acceptable? How come she got acceptable and people were getting high comments in Spanish?? Know what? She didn't wanna know. It was enough that she got it right along with the interpretations and they could be moving on without her having to revisit things because, no, she would not have been making corrections regardless. Oh, but... TACOS! The Gryffindor suddenly seemed to be paying a lot more attention than she had been for the past half an hour or however long it'd been since they got here. She happened to like tacos despite not having them too often and the Professor said the hardest part was not breaking the shell. She supposed she could manage that much. How could she not? It was either she contributed or she wouldn't be getting any for her own eating then she'd been left to sulk. Don't ask her what went into making tacos, she just knew you needed a mouth to eat them and as it so happened she had one! All good here and waiting for the feast. |
The professors now had AJ's full attention because it was food making time. She had called it with the whole taco making thing. Yum. There were so many things that you could put on a taco. She listened to what everybody else was saying so she wouldn't repeat any answers. Somebody had already said ground beef, but that wasn't the only meat that you could use. "You can also use chicken, professor." She had some that had a salsa type sauce marinated in it, and it was so yummy. Hopefully they would be able to use more than one type of meat. |
FOOD the food bit! This was it. This was truly the real reason why he had showed up to class. Well, mostly why. Also Gryffindor. But mostly food. Anyways, right. He listened to the others shout out some answers, and most of the traditional ingredients had been said so the boy had to think about it for a minute. After a sudden thought, the Gryffindor raised his hand, "Mexican rice?" Some people put rice in their tacos right? At least he was going to. So it was an ingredient for HIS taco. |
SPOILER!!: Fina "Hmm. That may add a small bit of heat after all." But not near as much as the ovens would. "Forever? I certainly hope not. And it seems highly unlikely, anyhow." With a castle full of gifted witches and wizards, it seemed probable that they would finally discover the source any day now. "Besides, with the upcoming season it's bound to be warmer, yes?" she said evasively. "And Anastasia is perfectly capable of coming up with her own ideas. I doubt she needs mine." The woman was an accomplished witch with an even more accomplished Board of Governors to back her up. Who was Lolita Domingo to barge in on domestic affairs, after all? Surely it was none of her business. Lolita laughed at Fina's concern about the quills and parchment. "Preocupado much, Love? Loosen up, we must keep them on their toes, see who's really paying attention." Listening carefully and following directions was one point of education, after all. |
Angel looked at the Professors and raised her hand. "How about some sort of sauce, maybe tomato or something secret that no one but the owner knows how to make?" Angel wasn't really sure but she thought that would be amazing if it was true, a secret ingredient of some sort. |
Beverly put away her belongings quite fast at the mention of eating. It was going to be a reward to her actually understanding the Arithmancy assignment and receiving a compliment from Professor Domingo. Tacos were a great reward. She raised her hand. "Hot sauce or salsa?" A little spice never hurt, you know? |
..one ingredient needed for tacos.. Lucy thought a lot then she said:"maybe the ingredient is the onion! the raw onion or the onion sauce...!" |
Mmmm........tacos. Layla quickly put her notebook and pen away and sat listening. Wait, they weren't getting them right away? Nope, they had to list off the ingredients first. And honestly, everyone already had them all pretty much. Damn. Except, she didn't think she'd heard one....... "Tomatoes." Yep, couldn't have a taco without those. They added both color and taste and a taco without them was just a sad little ground beef smiley. |
