Arithmancy & Muggle Studies Lesson Three

Just as the notice boards had informed you, the kitchens have become the place for yet another lesson this term. This one being the topics of Arithmancy and Muggle Studies.

The kitchens have been rearranged with chairs around the four large work tables, somewhat of a resemblance to the great hall. There's various decorations of red and green streamers hanging overhead and sombreros of various sizes on a table by the door, along with maracas in the middle of the table for decor and decorative plates as well.

Josephina is standing by the door welcoming you, no sombrero for her, but she is equipped with a pair of rancher boots."Welcome! Bienvenido! You may select and wear one of these hats, or sombreros, for the duration of the lesson if you'd like. Take a seat and we'll begin shortly!" Hopefully after her co-professor arrived, but if not she was more than willing to begin without her.

ooc: this lesson won't actually start for a little over 24 hours from now, but feel free to get situated, put on a sombrero and be festive despite the cold

So, AJ wasn't sure why so many of the lessons were taking place in the kitchen, but she wasn't complaining. Food was made in the kitchen, and food was good. The first year knew that she was early, but she was in the area and decided to just go ahead and get a good seat... if there was such a thing.

As she walked into the room she spotted the professor. "Hello professor." Oh look, they had sombreros and hats. Deciding that she definitely needed to wear BOTH of them, the lion picked up a pair and slid them on. She would have worn them anyways, but they did provide her with more warmth. Who would deny that when they had snow IN the castle.

Of course she was the first one there since she was so early so she plopped down in a random chair at the first time. Food! What were they going to make? Maybe mexican food since they had sombreros? AJ could sure go for a burrito right about now. Oh, fried ice cream. The lion needed to stop before drool formed.

Another lesson in the Kitchen. Awesome! Adi didn't mind that one bit. It usually meant they were doing something with food. And food was good. He stepped into the Kitchen to find Professor Hadley there. "Hi, Professor Head of House.'' Hehe. "You're looking lovely.'' Not that she didn't always look good.

"I think I'll have a sombrero,'' Adi said. Did that mean they were making Mexican food? With the sombrero on his head, Adi trudged over to AJ. "AJ. Hello.'' He tipped the sombrero, grinned and dropped into the seat next to her. "What's up?'' And where was Benny? Why was his best friend always one of the last to arrive to classes?

DaniDiNardo 07-25-2014 08:50 PM

Know something? Lex was gonna start blacklisting lessons taught by Professor Hadley. It was nothing personal--no, no it was. WHY were they in the KITCHEN, AGAIN?? She felt like it was just last week they were in here for Divination and even before then for homework for Botros. What was with Professors and this place this year? Was there something mystical that was just completely going over her head? Merlin!

"....................I did something in a past life, didn't I?" That was her greeting to the Professor with the smile by the door. It was the only explanation for why the Professors had her all over the kitchen this term. If she believed in that hocus pocus mumbo jumbo that Professor Smiles taught, she might have started asking about omens but this was as far as she would dabble into the improbable and impossible.

She looked at the streamer and yes, she did take a sombrero because why not then went to take a seat.

Across from her she spotted Adi and Aubrey. They both got waves before her eyes scanned the kitchen. Good she go find chocolate while they waited? Yes?

SlytherinSistah 07-25-2014 09:12 PM

Whoa.

Were those hats?

Why were they so huge?

Cutty entered the kitchens...again, looking neutral as he tried to make the correlation between the ranchero-vibe and the kitchens. He took a seat beside the Gryffindor prefect and considered the numerical vibrations in their immediate surroundings counting streamers, hats, pots and pans. It actually seemed like a disorganized jumble, even with the chair set up.

WhittyBitty 07-25-2014 09:23 PM

Another lesson being held in the kitchen was fine by Lux. It was warmer here, and of course FOOD. Both things were very important, and she happily picked up a sombrero placing it upon her head.

"Hello, Professor Hadley! How are you?" And where was the Arithmancy Professor? Shrugging it off, she waved to Adi and headed over to her seat.

SPOILER!!: Adi

Ben followed the class announcement's instructions, making his way to the kitchens for the joing lesson. The warm of the fires within the room were certainly a plus but he hates the additional walking all the time. Only the dungeons were really further from Gryffindor tower than the kitchens. Nevertheless, the third year carried his supplies with him wondering as he stepped into the familiar room what was up with the decor.

"Hello Professor," he greeted Hadley as the other woman did not seem present. A few students were also there including his bestie. No surprise, it wasn't like Adi as a Hufflepuff had to travel much. Taking a hat to try and be in the mood, Benny made his way to the table were the other boy sat with AJ.
"Hey..." he greeted them both with a polite nod of the head.

hermionesclone 07-25-2014 09:44 PM

They were in the Kitchens.

AGAIN.

Did Grayson have any complaints about this? LOL. NO! Lessons in the kitchens were MUCH better than lessons in classrooms because they were a sign of one thing that lessons in normal classrooms might not have: FOOD. And he had high hopes that this lesson would provide exactly that. Plenty of free food and maybe some hot chocolate.

Oh hey. Hadley. 'Sup. "Hey, Professor!" he said, shooting her a smile before looking over at the--

SOMBREROS. This was like the toga lesson all over again. Who could say no to these bad boys? Certainly not Whitty so, picking one up, he rammed it onto his head. "What do ya think? Looking good?" Yes. You. Hadley. DID he look good? Did he need to pout to add in that extra oomph?

On second thoughts, he wasn't pouting for anybody.

And while he waited for her answer, he was going to go and find a seat, mkay? The Slytherin headed over towards an empty seat at one of the tables and sat down. His blue eyes lingered on the decoration overhead, which reminded him all too much of the Gryffindor and Slytherin house colours. Smirking to himself, Grayson took out his things -- which did include a piece of paper and a pen -- and set them down on the table in front of him.

Despite the cold, Ethan Mordaunt forced himself to get out of bed, and attend the joint lesson for today. Muggle Studies and Arithmancy. Are they going to tackle muggle math or something? As the blond boy made his way inside, he saw different sized sombreros. Of course he picked the biggest and most obnoxious out of the lot. Making a statement, yeah? And just so everyone knows, he can pull anything off. Mhm.

“Hola!” Ethan greeted Professor Hadley with a Spanish salutation, in that funny Mexican accent. Yes, we know, it’s confusing. The boy then turned to the rest of the students who were already there. “Hola, mi amigos!” Really, it’s the sombrero talking. For full effect, Ethan started to dance towards Cutty with imaginary maracas. “Ole!”

Hallo, Cutty.

Daydreamer11 07-25-2014 10:02 PM

Another combo class. Jasmine tried to imagine how Divination and Muggle Studies could possibly be mixed together. She guessed that she would just have to wait and see.

Entering the kitchen, Jasmine noticed that it was decorated with a Mexican theme. Now she was even more intrigued. Seeing Professor Hadley, Jasmine went over to greet her. "Hello Professor", she said. "My, the kitchen looks very festive." Oh, they had sombreros too. Jasmine took one and put it on. She had to get into the spirit, right?

Seeing some of her friends, Jasmine waved to Adi, Lex and Lux. Then she found an empty seat and sat down. She couldn't wait to see what the class was all about.

ArianaBlack 07-25-2014 10:35 PM

Another kitchen lesson.... How wonderful. And by how wonderful, he was clearly thinking along the lines of 'no, not wonderful AT ALL'. Because as it was established in the very first kitchen lesson, he failed at cooking. Any kind of it. Especially the pizza kind. Especially that one.

Right. Despite the fact that he was clearly very upset about the choice in venue today, Zander walked in forcing a smile upon his face. Hopefully everyone would ignore the fact that the smile was a little too wide and out-of-place looking, but he was out of his element okay!?! This wasn't faaair.

Alright anyways. He walked into the room and saw a pile of the sombreros... Um no thanks. The hat would probably block his view and make burning the kitchen down much easier. So no, he was already terrible enough, didn't need something else making it worse. Right. "Hi Professor.... Uh, where's the other Professor?" Wasn't this supposed to be a joint lesson?

Anna Banana 07-25-2014 10:39 PM

Sophie felt like lying down on the floor and just staying there, not moving, for the next few hours. She was slowly withering away.

Well, not really, but that's how she felt. She hated Arithmancy. She hated Muggle Studies. ...and now they were both joined together for a full lesson on the two of them! Yes...she was slowly withering away.

She didn't want a hat. She passed them up but did greet the professor. One of them, at least. Where was Domingo? "Hi, Professor Hadley," she said. Then she ventured further into the classroom and took a seat...

...next to Grayson Whitlock, of course.

littledhampir 07-25-2014 11:04 PM

Arithmancy? Not something Hayden really cared to be a part of. But Muggle Studies? That was something she had actually enjoyed. Not to mention the fact that it came quite easily to her, given that half of her family were muggles. So there she was, down in the kitchen for another lesson. She wasn't too bitter about having to leave her warm common room and face the bitter cold of the castle because this lesson wasn't very far away. And hopefully they were cooking, so the ovens would provide a little heat.

"Hello professor," she greeted Hadley as she stepped through the door. Hats? Hayden took one and set it on her head. Sweet.

Weasley174 07-25-2014 11:21 PM

Angel really couldn't figure out why all the lessons where in the kitchen mostly, maybe there was a problem with heating in all the classrooms and so they were trying to keep warm by working from the kitchen. "Hello Professor." Angel smiled. "How have you been?" Angel really couldn't wait to see what was going to happen today, she just hoped that they would keep warm because it was still cold outside.

oh its Erik ok 07-25-2014 11:34 PM

Nigel was only slightly surprised by the class set up. They were in the kitchens after all and that meant more walking for Nigel. Exercise, Yeah. But the somberos were a nice touch and as long as they did not mess up his hair. They would be cool.

"Hey Professor Hadley. The only thing missing is a cowboy hat for your outfit....Hope this sombereo does not mess with my hair."

Nigel said as he greeted Hadley and grabbed a sombero, making his way to a bench? Was there like a Ravenclaw house table, he was suppose to got to.

AlwaysSnapesGirl 07-26-2014 01:23 AM

This lesson being in the kitchen was great and totally made up for the fact that it was a joint lesson with Arithmancy. Penelope hadn't taken that class in a couple years, so she wasn't looking forward to finding out just how much she'd forgotten, but at least it was here in the kitchen. And that crazy guy wasn't the professor anymore. Might not be too bad then.

Sombreros though? Interesting. "Hi Professor," she said as she came in and grabbed one of the hats.

Watson 07-26-2014 03:55 AM

A joint Arithmancy and Muggle Studies lesson?

Now this would be interesting.

Simon walked into the classroom with the usual casual backpack laxidasically hanging off one shoulder and eyed the rather festive kitchen. Were... Were those sombreros? He eyed them carefully and then turned to greet the Professors. And he only saw Hadley. Huh?!? Where was Domingo? Busy hiding something? He didn't know what to make of her but decided to ignore that thought and smile at Hadley instead. "Hola Professor Hadley! How are you?" he said as he slipped a sombrero onto his head and made his way further into the kitchens. With his sombrero, the only thing he now needed was a nice mustache like the one Luigi had from Super Mario Bros. That would be perfect.

He spotted Sophie sitting next to Grayson. Ooh getting cozy, huh? "Hola señorita and señor," he said, smirking as he walked past them. Oh, ho, ho. Where was Domingo when you needed her to give them both a wink? The boy continued into the room, making his way over to Cutty, Ethan, and Zander. "Hola amigos!"

lazykitty 07-26-2014 04:11 AM

No complaints from this snake about being in the kitchens again. It was much warmer here than in the rest of the castle, thanks to all the cooking and baking going on. Speaking of cooking, would they be doing that again? Because that would be nice.

"Hello, professor," Layla greeted, making sure to nab a Sombrero before taking a seat. Hmmm, now where was Professor Domingo?

Chiara 07-26-2014 12:49 PM

Lucy walked into the kitchen..
The Mexican atmosphere was very warm and the kitchen was cozy!
"Hello Professor Hadley"she said.. Then she took a green and tourquoise sombrero and she sat down.

pundantic 07-26-2014 07:04 PM

Another lesson down in the kitchens.

Yeah. At least this time he had some REAL nice viewing to do while it happened.

Oh. Hadley was here first. Well, uh, that was fine, yeah? She still looked fit. So he offered a hello and "You look lovely, Professor." Cue smirk. A gooood looking smirk.

But he didn't bother with the sombrero. He had done his hair. No need to mess that up.

Hallo, Cutty.

Cutty shot a calm smile when Ethan Mordaunt entered the kitchen. It was assured that Slytherin would dominate the class if Ethan were present and Cutty was intent to use that. At least, not stop it.

But, then Ethan did something that made Cutty a bit uncomfortable. He started shaking imaginary maracas. No. "What are yew doing? Are yer shakin' imaginary maracas?! Stop! Stop it!"

This reaction could probably be traced directly to Harlowe Mordaunt, the kid's older half-sister.

“La cucaracha! La cucaracha!” Ethan continued to dance and even sang the traditional Mexican song for Cutty. Funny how cucaracha means cockroach in English…which made him think of Kyroh and the little drama that happened in the Entrance Hall. Ethan however paused when the Mordaunt kid with jet black hair questioned him. “Of course, Cutty boy. What else will I be shaking? Coconuts?” he asked as he shook his hands some more.

Ethan then blinked and glanced at Simon, then to Cutty. “Why? Is my dancing horrible? Or is it my singing? Or both?!” he asked as he fixed his over-sized sombrero. The blond kid was sure Cutty had read the freak paper at some point.

“La cucaracha…la cucaraaaachaaa!”

Arithmancy and Muggle Studies. Together. Joint lesson. She did something terrible in her past life, didn't she? Or was she being punished for shoving first years out of her way? Or...

She knows why!

It was because of all the ex tutors she tormented throughout her years. Now all of that bad Karma was coming back and biting her right on her BUM. Ouch. It wasn't that she minded Muggle Studies. She simply didn't like it because she wasn't familiar with the subject. She liked Hadley, though. So she'd push through.

And there were sombreros.

Beverly put on a sombrero.

"Hello, Professor Hadley," she greeted with a small wave and dropped her bag on the floor before taking a seat. Adjusting her sombrero she grinned up at the older woman and waited.

More food? She'd like that.

Lolita Domingo 07-26-2014 11:24 PM

She had been at this school for almost an entire year now, and yet she had still gone the wrong way on the moving staircases. Estúpido, that's what it was. But now she had finally found the kitchens and, after tickling the painted fruit as instructed, had entered the room. Already so many students here? Early birds, apparently.

It didn't take long for her to spot Fina. "Buenos días, mi amiga," she called across the room. Weaving in and out amongst the students, she made her way over to her friend and colleague. "I've been looking forward to our combined fiesta for some time now. Ah, sombreros!" She had just now spotted the festive head gear and summoned one with her wand. "De moda, ¿no?"

PhoenixRising 07-27-2014 01:14 AM

Josephina stood by the door patiently waiting, resisting the urge to tap her boot on the stone floor. Not that she was impatient, just that the sound was so enticing.

SPOILER!!: Greetings!

"Afternoon dear! Welcome!" she beamed happily when the girl took one of the hats and donned it. Well at least it wasn't worthless having them there.

ooc: by hats we mean sombreros, so you know. there's not both hats and sombreros. we were just translating for those who don't know that sombrero is a hat =]

One of the first to arrive was one of her favorite Hufflepuffs! Beaming when he said she looked lovely she nodded politely at him. Of course she was looking lovely; castle exercise did wonders for working off the weight gain from her pregnancy. "Hello there Adi! Thank you!" She nodded when he took a sombrero.

well that was one explanation for the two lessons she held in the kitchens this year. Or it was simply just - get all the cooking stuff out of the way in one year. Themed years were good, weren't they? And didn't they say they wanted to learn to cook more stuff?

"... undoubtedly you probably did." Fina answered simply, even though Alexa's question didn't really require a response.

Ah now that was the spirit! "Hola Ethan!" she beamed back at him. So someone was practicing basic greetings in other languages! Excellent! Not that 'hola' or 'mi amigos' were difficult words to know....

So no, he was already terrible enough, didn't need something else making it worse. Right. "Hi Professor.... Uh, where's the other Professor?" Wasn't this supposed to be a joint lesson?

Ah someone was observant and brave enough to speak and ask on the whereabouts of the other professor. She could only assume that some of the kids who were fourth years and older, upon not seeing Lolita, probably assumed she was teaching both portions today. But Zander would not remember her as Arithmancy professor, so alas it made sense for him to ask about the other professor. "It seems, Professor Domingo might be running late. But not to worry, she'll be here."

"Hello there, Sophie," Hadley greeted to the female Newell next.

Sweet.

"Hayden! Hello! Glad to see you again!" Hadley beamed at the young first year.

"Hello there, Angel," Fina greeted back to the other half of the Gryffindor duo. "I've been alright thanks."

"Hello there, Nigel!" and then Fina just sighed as she took a lasting look at the ravenclaw prefect, when realization slowly began to set in that next year she wouldn't see him here. "Ah good call, but it seems a little one stole my cowboy hat. He looked all too adorable in it too." She couldn't bear to take it from her son. Not with that little expression he was wearing.

And another seventh year. Sigh. She was getting too old to deal with this heartbreak. "Hi Penelope! Welcome!"

Ah another Spanish speaking slytherin! Excellent! "Hola, Simon! I'm quite well, thank you!" she beamed at him as he joined some of his classmates.

"Hello, professor," Layla greeted, making sure to nab a Sombrero before taking a seat. Hmmm, now where was Professor Domingo?

"Hello Layla!" Josephina greeted of the seventh year.

Ah there was someone she missed last lesson. Or not. She wasn't sure who's smirking irked her more: Grayson or Ascanius. But Ascanius was graduating so soon she would have to only deal with one snarky Slytherin soon.

"Well thank you, Ascanius. right back at you." Yup. Or not. Who could tell with her smile?

Now why couldn't all Slytherins be like Beverly Wayne? Genuine and polite. Not sarcastic (at least not from what Fina could see)

"Hello Beverly," Fina greeted back, offering a grin of her own at the fourth year.

Just when Fina was about to close the door and start without her friend, Lolita showed up and found her way to her. "Ah! I was worried you've lost your way! Buenos días!" She greeted the Latina cheerfully. "Quite. Though I'm good with just my boots." No sombrero for her. "Shall I?" she glanced towards Lolita but didn't bother waiting for a response before she turned to address the students. They could talk more while the students were working. And she DID have to speak to her.

Once everyone had filed in, Josephina waited for them to get settled - get the singing out of their system (Ethan) - or whatever else they were doing before she started. "So its a very festive today and yes we will be enjoying some delicious food soon, but before we do anything with food, we need to go over some history stuff to lead us into the arithmancy portion." hermionesclone 07-27-2014 01:38 AM

SMIIIIIIRK.

He saw her. Out of the corner of his eyes. She was heading his way and, even better, sitting right down next to him. Grayson cleared his throat and tried to look as cool and neutral as possible. Maybe she had a reason for doing this. Maybe this had a liiiiitle something to do with the fact that Domingo had said that this girl right here improved him and that he should work with her more often.

Regardless of the reason, it was VERY nice to see you, Sophie Newell. Very nice indeed. A smile and a wink was sent her way from the fourth year.

"'Sup, Simon!" Hat tip for you. And what was with the smirk, eh?

He had no time to ponder on that since the class was getting started. No distractions, mkay Whitty? Not when they were talking about Cinco de Mayo. This was about the French vs the Mecicans. LOOOOOL. Part Frenchie sitting right here. This wasn't a subject they would talk about a lot back in France. Nuh uh. It was taught, sure, but the teacher was always bitter over one tiny little fact that Grayson was going to go on to mention.

So, his hand went up in the air. "One of the reasons is because the French army had more men and better equipment," he said, "But the Mexicans still won. Pretty remarkable feat, if you ask me." Smart, they were. And what had the Frenchies been DOING?!

Oh look! Domingo was here! Heeeeeeey.

Daydreamer11 07-27-2014 02:03 AM

Relaxing in her sombrero, Jasmine listened as the Professor began to talk about Cinco de Mayo and the Battle of Puebla. She wrote down some notes as the information was being given and then it was question time. What was significant about the battle?

Jasmine raised her hand to share her thoughts. "No one expected the Mexicans to win the battle. It was very inspirational to the Mexican people when they did win." They always celebrated Cinco de Mayo when Jasmine lived in California, but many people really didn't know what the holiday was all about.

"Me? Lose my way?" The woman clicked her tongue and shook her head. She knew that her friend would understand that was almost exactly what had happened. It was good of Fina to play along with her comment on fashion, since it was not as much a passion of hers. "And such lovely boots they are," she replied, glancing down. Lolita merely nodded her assent to starting the lesson.

Part of the reason she had been looking forward to this class was to see how the students behaved with other professors. Jasmine and Grayson being the two to answer the question did not leave her surprised. So far nothing was different, but their time had barely begun.

Watson 07-27-2014 02:26 AM

Simon didn't have time to tell Ethan to stop with the maracas for Cutty. He'd been to busy staring in awe at him, trying to register what was actually happening before him. By the time he opened his mouth, Professor Hadley and Domingo had started the lesson.

Oh they were learning about Cinco de Mayo? He'd heard about that. Maybe it was good of Ethan to keep playing with those maracas and singing to celebrate Mexico's unlikely win over the French army. He listened to Hadley's question about the Battle of Puebla and then raised his answer. "Well the battle was a huge boost in popularity for both Benito Juarez and his government. During this time of upheaval and chaos, it was very likely for people to overthrow their government."

ArianaBlack 07-27-2014 02:38 AM

What did Mexico have to do with muggle studies... Or Arithmancy for that matter? There were wizards in Mexico too. How were they supposed to know if the Cinco de Mayo battle wasn't fought by the wizards hmmmm? But either way Zander had absolutely no clue. None. Nada- for that matter. So instead of answering the question, he just diligently took notes because Mr. Group Leader Grayson sounded like he was on to something and Professor Domingo didn't have anything to argue with their answers so Jasmine and Grayson were probably right about something or another.

Instead, he just looked over at the Slytherin boys sitting next to them and gave them weirded out looks. Because this lesson had just begun and it was already really strange.... Were they going to make mexican food? And again... Why did any of this relate to Arithmancy? The muggle studies bit, okay that was a long shot, but if they were cooking then it could be there. But Arithmancy.. Were they going to figure out the significance of the day Cinco de Maywhatever? Because wasn't that what they spent last lesson doing? A little redundant...

SPOILER!!: Greetings!

And first one to enter was the gryffindor twin ... or she was a triplet actually? Except Josephina had still not met the third of the trio, so for now, in her mind, there was just AJ and Angel.

Well someone just seemed .... to be taking it all in. Smiling briefly at the third year, she was tempted to jam one of the sombreros onto his head but decided against it. Besides, it might break his focus and he seemed very focused.

"Hello Lux! I'm quite well, thank you!" she beamed at the third year as she happily took the sombrero.

"Hello Ben!" Hadley greeted back to the Gryffindor, as he took a seat near Adi.

Well then wasn't someone trying to get on her good terms? Not that she hated the Slytherin fourth year, but she needless to say, hadn't been thus far impressed by him and his smirks. But he seemed genuinely polite today. "Hello Grayson," she greeted back, but then what? He asked her how he looked in the sombrero? "You look ... festive," she nodded at him. It was true.

Ah now that was the spirit! "Hola Ethan!" she beamed back at him. So someone was practicing basic greetings in other languages! Excellent! Not that 'hola' or 'mi amigos' were difficult words to know....

"Hello Jasmine, welcome and thank you! We definitely tried." So mission accomplished, yes?

Ah someone was observant and brave enough to speak and ask on the whereabouts of the other professor. She could only assume that some of the kids who were fourth years and older, upon not seeing Lolita, probably assumed she was teaching both portions today. Ah another Spanish speaking slytherin! Excellent! "Hola, Simon! I'm quite well, thank you!" she beamed at him as he joined some of his classmates.

"Hello Layla!" Josephina greeted of the seventh year.

"Hello, Lucy! Welcome back!" Hadley greeted to the first year.

The battle of WHAT? Caleb blinked cluelessly and then started to flip through the pages of his textbook. History was so BORING, he had no idea why anyone in their right mind would want to make a living off of this.

Finally, he found the answer to Hadley's question and raised his hand. "Well, the first reason it was important is because that was the last time any European nation had control over a territory in the Americas," he explained. Yeah, those ancestors of theirs were like, ALWAYS in everyone's business. "The second is that they were SUPER outnumbered. Like that battle in Ancient Greece with only 300 guys. Except the Mexicans won and didn't get horribly slaughtered," he pointed out.

FearlessLeader19 07-27-2014 03:23 AM

The best friend had finally landed. "Hey, Dragon. I should make Angel drag you to class seeing as you take so long to reach them.'' Hehe. The boy enjoyed teasing his bestie. Benny should be used to that by now. Oh, look. Lux! And Jasmine! Heeeey, guys!
.................................

And Professor Domingo had made her arrival so now the lesson was on its way. Cinco de Mayo. Adi knew a bit about that. But he didn't know the second reason as to why the battle was significant. Nope. So, he just sat there quietly.

lazykitty 07-27-2014 03:30 AM

Ah, Cinco de Mayo. That explained the Sombreros and everything.

And two reasons why this battle was important. Okay. Everyone seemed to be focused on the one, Mexico being outnumbered. But it looked like her status as an American was going to help her out here, as she knew of one that no one had mentioned yet. "It prevented the French from moving any further north and providing aid to the Confederate Army in the American Civil War and without their help, the Confederates eventually lost. Which kept the U.S. together." Stupid meddling Frenchies.

nanyjj 07-27-2014 01:21 PM

Leah straightened her hat as she listened. Cinco what? What about mayonnaise? Oh a festival commemorating Mexico's victory over French. History all over again. And again, the kitchen. Were they going to cook? Because cooking was getting boring. Eating though, Mexican food.. yum.

If you told Leah the date of that festival, she could figure out the significance of that date. But history aargh nope. She listened to the older students speaking instead.

Weasley174 07-27-2014 01:26 PM

Angel looked at the Professor and raised her hand. "Professor is it because no one gave the Mexican's a chance to win the battle and they showed everyone how good they were?" Angel had no idea what else to say so she decided just to go with it.

Chiara 07-27-2014 01:33 PM

Lucy thought a lot and she said:" I know that there was a torrential rain that transformed the land in mud blocking the French troops"
Bad weather can be a good ally!!!

MudInMyBlood 07-27-2014 01:59 PM

Adi was sitting beside her in a lesson. It seemed like ages since this had taken place. She was beaming from ear to ear, and tipped her hat back to him. "Sup Adi." Not long after Benny joined them. It had been quite some time since she had spoken to him, and she couldn't help but to be curious as to how he was doing. "Hey Ben." For some reason AJ still didn't call him Benny. Then she noticed that the other professor arrived. The lion only hoped that this lesson wasn't going to be hard since muggle studies was attached to it.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Erm... she didn't really have a clue as to why it was important, but she was going to venture a guess anyways. AJ wasn't one to just sit back and be quiet especially since she was in an exceptional mood now that all was well again between her and Adi. "Maybe because once they won they were able to celebrate with food, and who doesn't get happy about that?" No seriously, she wanted to know. Plus, a confirmation that they would be making something delicious this lesson would be nice.

OOC: HAHA...I promise I knew that. My mind was reading pancho for some reason.

Anna Banana 07-27-2014 04:57 PM

Ohh, hi, Professor Domingo! Sophie really looked up to the Arithmancy professor. She kind of hoped the woman would stick around and wouldn't be one of those guest professors that came and went within a year. She grinned her way as sort of a silent way of saying hello, then turned her attention to Hadley, who was asking a question.

Sophie raised her hand. "I think it's significant, because it reminds of us that we shouldn't sell ourselves short," she said. "We should always keep trying no matter how other people see us or how we see ourselves. Nobody expected the Mexicans to win, but they did anyway."

That's really all Sophie had to offer on the battle.

WhittyBitty 07-27-2014 05:32 PM

Class had only just started and Lux was already confused. Why did everything associated with Arithmancy have to be so hard? Not having any knowledge about this holiday, she decided to remain quest and let the other students answer the question.

Expecto-Penguin 07-27-2014 05:46 PM

Kace was hearing what the professor was going over today. He heard the Arthimancy professor was here. He wondered why? But he heard they were learning about Cinco De Mayo and it made sense. Professor Hadley wanted to know what he knew about it? Hmm...what did he know? He looked through his book and raised his hand,

" Professor the 8,000-strong French army attacked the much smaller and poorly equipped Mexican army of 4,500 but yet the the Mexicans managed to decisively crush the French army." It seemed even though the Mexican army was smaller they managed to kick butt.

AlwaysSnapesGirl 07-27-2014 05:47 PM

Cinco de Mayo? Yeah, Penelope didn't really know a whole lot about that festival, though she'd heard of it at some point. But from what Hadley had said about it, she'd thought along the lines that a lot of the others were answering. And for now, she felt like answering with it anyway, so she raised her hand. "Yeah, I agree with what a lot of them are saying. It sounds like Mexican army wasn't supposed to win against the French, but they still did anyway, which is pretty awesome. It's kinda like Quidditch, where sometimes one team seems to be 'better' than the other one, but then the other one wins and catches the snitch." Those were fun games to watch.

Stefan 07-27-2014 07:46 PM

Battle of what? And...what was Simon talking about?! Ethan was pretty clueless as to what is exactly being celebrated, but based on his classmates' answer, this battle can be classified as epic. 8,000 men against 4,000?! Wowzers.

Hand up.

"It's the perfect example for teamwork and unity, professor." And upon reaching the goal, you go celebrate. With nothing more to add, Ethan wrote down his notes and waited for the 'celebration' part of the joint class.

DaniDiNardo 07-27-2014 07:50 PM

Hold the snitch.

For a moment Lex just sat there staring. Could this day get any stranger? They....were in the kitchen to focus on muggles and numbers....but had slipped into a History lesson.....? History of all things. What battle were they on about and why did no one think Mexico would win? You'd think any place with spicy food could whip up a good army, what were the French thinking??

"Maybe it's important to teach you not to pick on the little guys because the little guys have more fire power?" Had no one else ever SEEN a firstie rant about something? They went on and on like no other. She didn't even KNOW where they got that energy when half of them promised they hadn't had candy in a few hours.

hermygirl 07-27-2014 08:43 PM

The NEWTs studying must have been getting to Benjy. He could have sworn that he was in the kitchen for a combined Muggle Studies and Arithmancy lesson, not a lesson on the history of...Mexico?! And for that matter, why would he confuse Cinco de Mayo (surely, the fifth of May?) with some day in September?

A frown flickered across his face, and he glanced across to Lex, clearly bewildered. He was pretty sure he'd eaten today, and he'd gone skateboarding in the corridors too. And yet his brain still seemed completely mangled. Huh.

"Because there was an awesome feast afterwards?" Benjy answered Professor Hadley hopefully. There had to be a link to the kitchens in the lesson somewhere, right?

oh its Erik ok 07-27-2014 08:59 PM

You can certainly have fun on Cinco De Mayo. Not sure about the Independence Day though. That was Nigel's knowledge on the subject. He had no knowledge in this battle. He knew about The Alamo. But that was a different country and war.

Right?

Well, he would just listened to everyone's answer. The Mexicans are pretty cool for winning a battle which appeared that they were out numbered.

Not Bad

pundantic 07-28-2014 01:07 AM

Pfft.

They got lucky. That was the truth. No one else wanted to say it, yeah? But Ascanius knew it 'cause of LUCK. Nothing else. In history a lot of it was just luck because for all intensive purposes they SHOULD have lost.

In both cases.

History never talked about the Revolutions that lost. And there were loads of them.

But he kept his mouth shut.

Deezerz 07-28-2014 01:47 AM

Oooh! Cinco de Mayo. Beverly was fairly familiar with that date because of Kennedy and his heritage. She still has that picture of him dressed up as a mariachi in his fourth year at Hogwarts. It's the most silly thing.

The Slytherin wrinkled her nose when the thing she was going to say was mentioned.

Boo, you guys, boo.

She raised her hand either way. "Could it be because Mexico over came the incredible odds that were stacked against them?" she said. Maybe some Arithmancy stuff had to do with it?

SPOILER!!: Greetings!

And first one to enter was the gryffindor twin ... or she was a triplet actually? Except Josephina had still not met the third of the trio, so for now, in her mind, there was just AJ and Angel.

But Zander would not remember her as Arithmancy professor, so alas it made sense for him to ask about the other professor. "It seems, Professor Domingo might be running late. But not to worry, she'll be here."

"Hello there, Sophie," Hadley greeted to the female Newell next.

"Hayden! Hello! Glad to see you again!" Hadley beamed at the young first year.

"Hello there, Angel," Fina greeted back to the other half of the Gryffindor duo. "I've been alright thanks."

"... no worries, the sombreros have been charmed to not mess up hairdos."

And another seventh year. Sigh. She was getting too old to deal with this heartbreak. "Hi Penelope! Welcome!"

Now why couldn't all Slytherins be like Beverly Wayne? Genuine and polite. Not sarcastic (at least not from what Fina could see)

"Hello Beverly," Fina greeted back, offering a grin of her own at the fourth year.

"So its a very festive today and yes we will be enjoying some delicious food soon, but before we do anything with food, we need to go over some history stuff to lead us into the arithmancy portion." Sound good? Good. "The festival we're learning about today is called Cinco de Mayo, which commemorates the Mexican's army unlikely victory over the French army at the Battle of Puebla. It is NOT to be confused with Mexico's Independence day, which takes place in September. The are two main reasons why this battle is significant, which I've already somewhat alluded to one. Any idea what these reasons might be?"

Cinco de Mayo. That was a lot of fives already. A number for rebellion if Cutty had ever seen one.

That was worth it. Definitely worth calculating the numerical odds via Arithmancy. Merlin would you look at Beverly Wayne. She was..."Joost full of good ideas today, Wayne!". He was proud of her.

Hand in the air to address their Professor now, Cutty offered this, "Building off of Beverly's point, Professor, could the other reason the battle is significant to our class be due to the numerical values achieved by evaluating the dates of the event. I mean, the fifth day of the fifth moonth. That's sort of asking for it, isn't it?"

Lolita Domingo 07-28-2014 03:52 PM

Heh, Sophie Newell at it again. Seriously, that Whitlock boy ought to just get ON with things and ask her out. It was so painfully obvious that he had a thing for the girl with the gorgeous hair. And of course Lolita took all the credit for that bit. Ay ay ay, too bad knocking boys upside the head was frowned upon, or that Slytherin would have a burrito-sized red spot on the back of his head already.

But on a more academic note, she was pleasantly surprised at how many students were so knowledgeable about Latin history, and Muggle Latin history at that. Her friend had done well with this bunch, that much was clear. And then there was Cutty Mordaunt, who seemed to have some sixth sense about Arithmancy. She nodded in approval toward the boy, though refrained from speaking. This was Fina's part of the lesson, not hers.

Lolita merely nodded her assent to starting the lesson.

Part of the reason she had been looking forward to this class was to see how the students behaved with other professors. Jasmine and Grayson being the two to answer the question did not leave her surprised. So far nothing was different, but their time had barely begun.

Well duh, of course they were lovely. And she was donning them quite well, thank you very much. But no need to continue that conversation, unless it would lead into conversation about the weather because that was something she wanted to discuss with Lolita. Once the kiddos started on some assignment anyway. For now though, her attention was on the young ones.

Heeeeeeey.

"Ah yes, the French had more men and better equipment." Hadley restated, confirming Grayson's ideas.

Jasmine raised her hand to share her thoughts. "No one expected the Mexicans to win the battle. It was very inspirational to the Mexican people when they did win." They always celebrated Cinco de Mayo when Jasmine lived in California, but many people really didn't know what the holiday was all about.

"Inspirational yes. Exactly that. Who could ever expect the underdogs to win?" Much like the house cup race. Even though her badgers weren't in the lead this term, they had still snatched the cup for seven straight terms which was a remarkable and unexpected feat, if you asked her.

"Ah yes, funny how unexpected wins, even if its nothing to do with politics, it becomes something to do with politics."

"AH there's the other reason I was looking for! The last time any European nation had control over an American territory. Or subsequently been invaded." Someone had been reading.

"Yes, true points." Hadley nodded. Not the main significance to the battle, but definitely true points.

"Not that no one gave the Mexicans a chance... and they weren't really that good. But it was just unexpected, their win. They were vastly outnumbered in both soldiers and equipment."

Bad weather can be a good ally!!!

"History says nothing in regards to bad weather, but not that it wasn't a deterrent...." Hadley said thoughtfully, "But there's nothing noted that there was bad weather affecting the outcome." Nor is anything noted in regards to magic influences. This battle was pure muggle studies.

Erm... she didn't really have a clue as to why it was important, but she was going to venture a guess anyways.

"Ah yes they did celebrate or at least commemorate the holiday with food, but I'm not sure back in 1862 when the battle took place, the soldiers were thinking about the celebrations. They were probably more focused on staying alive." At least that's what she would be thinking about in battle. Even if food was good.

Ooh very good and original way to state things! "Excellent, Sophie! Very good take home message there for not just referring to this particular topic but life in general. Don't sell yourself short because you never know."

" Professor the 8,000-strong French army attacked the much smaller and poorly equipped Mexican army of 4,500 but yet the the Mexicans managed to decisively crush the French army." It seemed even though the Mexican army was smaller they managed to kick butt.

"Yes very factual statements, but true enough." Even if the counts were off slightly, it was the emphasis that the French army was like double the size of the Mexican army.

"Yes, it kind of is like Quidditch, or any sporting game for that matter. When someone wins who is the underdog. Some might even call it 'sheer dumb luck', which I reckon could be attributed to some scenarios in history." Yes she did just call the Mexicans out for being lucky. Because in a sense it was just that, wasn't it? OR was there more to it?

Hand up.

"It's the perfect example for teamwork and unity, professor." And upon reaching the goal, you go celebrate. With nothing more to add, Ethan wrote down his notes and waited for the 'celebration' part of the joint class.

"Ah yes, teamwork and unity and actually pride too. Good." Because had the Mexican army not been united and prideful of their land, they wouldn't have fought for the win in the first place.

Uh what? OH was Alexa trying to imply that her five foot four self had more fire power than the students who outgrew her (which was usually by fourth or fifth year)? Because that was actually true. She had plenty of fire power, when she chose to execute it.

"Not necessarily, but yes, the little guys may or may not have more fire power."

"Because there was an awesome feast afterwards?" Benjy answered Professor Hadley hopefully. There had to be a link to the kitchens in the lesson somewhere, right?

Another one with the food. Honestly and they said all Hufflepuffs thought about was food; yet neither of these students was in Hufflepuff. "They didn't know that there would be a feast after they won. The feast was because they won." See. Difference.

And look at these Slytherin kiddos jumping ahead of the game!!! First Sophie and her not selling yourself short, now Beverly and Cutty looking ahead to odds and predictability and dates! But that was all Lolita's portion of the lesson. Before they got to reviewing any of that, she had a couple more things to go over. "Yes, the battle could very well be significant due to the numerical values of the date of the event. We'll look at those numbers later though...." For now though, she had other stuff to go over.

"So the Battle of Puebla which took place in 1862, was significant because - as many of you mentioned - the outnumbered Mexican army defeated a better equipped French Army. And because, as Caleb mentioned, it was the last time any European nation would invade an American nation." Hadley reiterated, in case anyone missed what their classmates had said. "After the battle, however, a year later, the French troops did invade and capture Mexico City. The French victory too was short lived, only lasting three years as the United States provided more political and military assistance to Mexico to drive the French out. Which was successful starting 1866 and the Mexicans then recaptured Mexico City. June 5, 1867, Benito Juarez entered Mexico City and implemented a legitimate government and administration. That is a very short explanation of the events taking place post-battle." She paused. "The main take home messages that you need to know though is that the Battle took place in 1862, that you should never underestimate yourself because you never know, and that the victory symbolized unity and pride."

"So now that you have some brief background knowledge of the events, lets talk briefly on festivities. What celebration activities are tied with the holiday? We know food is one, but if you're going to discuss that, then what types of food are associated with the festivities?"

MudInMyBlood 07-28-2014 10:44 PM

THAT was a lot of information to take in, and as much as she tried to listen, it was hard when her ears were trained to hear food clue words. The firstie jotted down some info though. Only time would tell if she would be able to understand her short hand later.

Food. Food was mentioned. Her spidey senses were tingly. "Ohhh, don't they dress up in those big flowery dresses and dance around to music while delicious tacos and burritos are being made?" She was pretty sure that pinatas were involved too. Ohhh... was there going to be a pinata? Her eyes were twinkling at the thought.

WhittyBitty 07-28-2014 11:01 PM

Wow, that was a lot of information. O_O

Head reeling from everything that Professor Hadley was telling the class, Lux tried her best to make good and detailed notes. She had no idea how much of this was actually useful, but it was always a good idea to cover your bases.

Annnnnd now they were talking about food. That was more like it. Eagerly raising her hand, Lux said. "Are tacos involved? Because if not, they SHOULD be." She had only had a taco once and it was one of the most amazing things she had ever eaten. Not as amazing as cucumber sandwiches and Chocolate Frogs but it was pretty darn close.

Daydreamer11 07-28-2014 11:15 PM

Jasmine took notes as the Professor gave a lot of information about the Battle of Puebla. Trying to keep up, she scribbled furiously in her notebook. Then as expected, a question was asked. Jasmine raised her hand to respond to the question. Thinking back to her days in California, she remembered the many celebrations that took place in her city. "There may be music during a Cinco de Mayo celebration, usually Mariachi bands."

Stefan 07-28-2014 11:20 PM

And because of team work, Slytherin won first place in DADA. So basically, it’s a proven theory. Now.

OOOH. Food. Ethan haven’t experienced celebrating this Cinco de Mayo thing, or probably he did already he just wasn’t aware because this boy is easily distracted by food. And yeah, good music. Okay…to answer that question though.

Hand up.

“Burritos?” It’s the only Mexican food he knows. So there.

Deezerz 07-29-2014 12:35 AM

Turning to Cutty after adjusting her sombrero she shot him a smirk. Whether he was being sarcastic or not Beverly didn't care. She didn't mind his nature. Cutty Mordaunt was Cutty Mordaunt. And she's grown to like that Cutty Mordaunt.

-----

Beverly liked that message: Don't underestimate yourself. It's what her mum used to tell her. Anyway, it was a nice message and she was ready to move on to the food portion of it.

Thank Merlin for food.

She knew this one. Not only was it food-related, but Kennedy's burned enough food for her to know what he was trying to make. The Slytherin raised her hand.

"There's chips and salsa or guacamole." Which was simply delicious. But also, "I think it's pronounced en-" don't mess up, you know it, Wayne, "en-chi-la-das." There you go! That!

Lissy Longbottom 07-29-2014 12:39 AM

What did they eat? OOOOOH would they get to actually EAT stuff? Domingo was here after all, and she HAD cooked for them before. His stomach started to growl and without giving it much thought, he raised his hand and blurted out the first Mexican food item he could think of.

"Quesadillas?" he suggested. It was an answer to the question and ALSO a hint hint to Hadley and Domingo that if they were cooking, he wanted a quesadilla. Mmmmmm.

Expecto-Penguin 07-29-2014 12:43 AM

Kace smiled and knew what food could be involved with this holiday. His aunt celebrated with them even thought she wasn't spanish. She brought them to a spanish restaurant on this holiday because of her love of Mexican food. Kace raised his hand and said, "Perhaps Guacamole? And I think some people may include drinks like Margaritas and Pina Coladas!" That was somethings. He did like burritos and tacos like his other student's said.

Watson 07-29-2014 12:54 AM

Food?

Simon's ears perked up. He loved food. Not only eating it but also cooking it. His hand shot up with an answer. "As for food, I'd say perhaps they would make Tamales as well?" he asked. Tamales were delicious little packages of spiced meat wrapped up and cooked in a corn husk.. Mhmmmm.. So delicious. He felt his mouth starting to water already. He eyed the kitchen, wondering if they had the ingredients to make all of this food. He assumed that they did. He turned back to the Professor. "Perhaps a piñata is involved?"

Anna Banana 07-29-2014 12:57 AM

...and now Sophie was hungry. Thank you, Hadley. There better be food at the end of this lesson. Food that was not iced over from the cold either. Sophie really didn't know much about the Mexicans and their holidays, but she did know what kinds of food they liked. The problem was that most of the foods had already been listed.

"Do they wear sombreros?" she asked, raising her hand.

Nevermind the fact that some of them wore sombreros all the time, but she imagined they DID wear them on May the fifth, too. Uhh, yeah. She had nothing.

oh its Erik ok 07-29-2014 01:01 AM

Everyone knows what an 18 year old would do on Cinco De Mayo. That does not have to be said out loud. But food was a different story. Nigel knew some Mexican food, only the basics.

"Tacos and Burritos" Nigel said in a terrible Mexican accent.

Need to have someone do the stereotypical mexican accent and food and Nigel thought why not him. It was fun and it is not like he had much time left for some school fun.

FearlessLeader19 07-29-2014 01:26 AM

That was ALOT of info there. Adi tried to absorb most of it in his brain but his mind was on one thing- food. Was that why they were in the Kitchen? They were going to make Mexican dishes? Hmmm.

He raised a hand. "Tacos, possibly.'' Total guess there. It was one of the few Mexican foods he knew. "And they most likely wore sombreros.'' That's why some of them were wearing one right now, yes?

DaniDiNardo 07-29-2014 02:12 AM

Yuuuup, history lesson, one with food. Lex's face used to light up at the mention of food in lessons, until she got older and they started expecting them to MAKE the food on their own. Like who did that?? Alexa spared Benjy a glance at much the same time he looked at her. Of course there was some nose wrinlking. What was this lesson even?

With all the questions being asked and the history being passed on, she kinda had a question of her own.

Forgive her for this not being on track but...."We're not gonna be making the foor ourselves...right Professors?" Innocent enough question but she had to know. This was crucial. Outside of that, don't worry she was paying full attention.

Honest.

ArianaBlack 07-29-2014 04:56 AM

Woah. that was a whole lot to take in. The Gryffindor tried to take lots of notes at first but at some point he got lost. Way lost. So instead he just opted to listen. Hopefully the homwork wouldn't involve any of this intense knowledge. Then hearing the question, the Gryffindor had to sit and think about it a bit... "Do they eat Fajitas?..." That was a food right? He would've gone for the tacos, but everyone else had already suggested those.

nanyjj 07-29-2014 10:21 AM

Leah listened to Professor Hadley's explanation, only taking in a couple of information. The Mexicans should have been really happy.

Now were they talking about food? No? Oh okay. About the celebration. Leah raised her hand and said, "It is not a federal holiday, so stores remain open." she thought some more and said, "I guess there will be activities like parades?" She used to love parades when she was small, but nowadays she had got bored of those.

Angel looked at the Professor and raised her hand, she wasn't really into the Mexican culture and she actually didn't know much about it. "They eat a nice feast like they did when they first won the battle?" Angel had heard stories about how after the king had gone with the army and won a battle they had... had this big celebration dinner.

Felixir 07-29-2014 12:53 PM

Anyone who said that taking Muggle Studies was easy if you'd grown up muggle really was mistaken. Toby didn't know what the heck was going on, though admittedly that was probably related to the fact that as soon as the history stuff had started his brain sort of tuned out. Problem with BOTH of these classes was that they involved a lot of talking and stuff, which gave him ample opportunity to totally get distracted.

But that didn't stop him trying. He couldn't just give up on trying in classes this close to the end of the year. Even though he didn't have an answer, Toby sat and listened and made a lot of notes and tried to look agreeable while he waited to see if there would be a practical activity. He was all fidgety and bouncy already, eager to do something other than sit there.

And now he was thinking about food. Oh man, food would be good right n-

NO. Focus, Toby. C'mon, keep focused. We're in the kitchens. There'll probably be food LATER.

Vaguely, as Toby brought his focus back to the lesson, he wondered whether the date of the Battle of Puebla would be where the Arithmancy came in. That would make sense, right?

"Some customs, yes," Hadley agreed.

"Tacos are one item that could be, yes."

Jasmine raised her hand to respond to the question. Thinking back to her days in California, she remembered the many celebrations that took place in her city. "There may be music during a Cinco de Mayo celebration, usually Mariachi bands."

"Definitely music. Wouldn't be a festival without music."

OOOH.

So there.

"Yes, burritos."

That!

"Ah excellent. Yes, enchiladas are also commonly served. As are chips and salsa and guacamole."

"Quesadillas?" he suggested. It was an answer to the question and ALSO a hint hint to Hadley and Domingo that if they were cooking, he wanted a quesadilla. Mmmmmm.

"Yes, quesadillas are another type of cuisine common."

"Sometimes, yes a piñata might be involved." That would be Miss Cambridge's dream come true if they had one here.

"Do they wear sombreros?" she asked, raising her hand.

Nevermind the fact that some of them wore sombreros all the time, but she imagined they DID wear them on May the fifth, too. Uhh, yeah. She had nothing.

"Yes I'd say so," Hadley agreed.

Need to have someone do the stereotypical mexican accent and food and Nigel thought why not him. It was fun and it is not like he had much time left for some school fun.

"Yes," Hadley nodded when Nigel mentioned food types again.

He raised a hand. "Tacos, possibly.'' Total guess there. It was one of the few Mexican foods he knew. "And they most likely wore sombreros.'' That's why some of them were wearing one right now, yes?

Hadley nodded at Adi's given answers when he said the same thing.

Honest.

That question though. "Well, of course you'll be making the food yourself. I'm not a house elf. But don't worry, its not as complicated as pizza and the ingredients are all prepared." Really, Lex, who was she if she just handed them ready-made food?

He would've gone for the tacos, but everyone else had already suggested those.

"Sometimes, yes." if they didn't take so darn long, then she'd probably have had them make that today.

She used to love parades when she was small, but nowadays she had got bored of those.

"In Mexico although it is not a national holiday, it is a holiday in the State of Puebla." She explained. "All public schools are closed though nationwide in Mexico, for the holiday, and there's no work in the neighboring state. But yes, there are activities like parades too."

"Traditionally, yes." It was, in a sense like Hogwarts traditions. Feasts at start of term and end of term. Feasts at holidays. Feasts, feasts, feasts.

"Outside of Latin America, celebrations occur all over, emphasizing as many of you stated, Mexican cuisine, culture and music." Hadley continued with her lecturing portion. "Cuisine could be, but is not limited to tacos, quesadillas, burritos, and fajitas. British Columbia, Canada holds a skydiving event for the holiday. The Cayman Islands, in the Caribbean, holds an air guitar competition. So basically there's festivals throughout the world; from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, to here in London, to New Zealand."

"Before we enjoy some Mexican Cuisine, Professor Domingo will require your undivided attention as we delve into some numerical significance of the holiday."

MudInMyBlood 07-29-2014 03:12 PM

Before we enjoy mexican cuisine... those were the words that Hadley spoke which meant that food was happening. First, they had to listen to more stuff. Ugh! Unfortunately the subject was Arithmancy, and AJ didn't like doing that on a good day. It was going to be super hard to pay attention to that.

Tacos, burritos, and quesadillas, oh my. She daydreamed about all of the food possibilites and wondered what they would end up making. She looked at Lolita and waited for her part of the lesson. Hurrrrry, this lion was hungry.

FearlessLeader19 07-29-2014 03:36 PM

Mexican cuisine. Food! Awesome! But first they had to get through the Arithmancy stuff. Okay, Professor Domingo. The floor was yours. Adi waited for the lady to start explaining stuff he was sure to get lost in. But he'd try to let that not happen.

Felixir 07-29-2014 04:24 PM

Okay, Arithmancy stuff. This was set to be the tough part; it involved all the thinking and concentrating and stuff but Toby coULD Do ThiS. He finished writing the last of that particular set of notes and turned to Professor Domingo for the next part.

His focusing game was totally on point right now.

ArianaBlack 07-29-2014 05:23 PM

So much note taking in this class, always. Even though they were in the kitchen. Just so many notes. Thankfully they hadn't gotten to the actual cooking or whatever. Didn't need to risk any stains all over his notes. No, thanks. Not again.

But anyways, he finished scribbling the last of his notes, then looked over at Professor Domingo for the next set of notes to scribble. Man. His wrist was really killing him, Professors. Maybe it'd be best to do the practical portion now and... sort of... skip over the long, complicated... super boring... arithmancy bit? ....Yes?

AlwaysSnapesGirl 07-29-2014 05:40 PM

...tacos were a part of the cuisine?

Would they be making TACOS today???

Official new best lesson ever.

Except that Arithmancy stuff was coming next. Meh. But Penelope was willing to deal with it if she got to spend the rest of the lesson making tacos. And whatever else too. But mostly tacos.

oh its Erik ok 07-29-2014 05:43 PM

Wait, was it Tuesday?

Than it totally could be Taco Tuesday. Nothing went with burittios so lets just forget about those for a minute. Nigel was only joking in his answer and was pleasant shocked when he was right.

Awesome.

He would pay slight attention to the Arithmancy part since he liked Doflamingo.

DaniDiNardo 07-29-2014 05:46 PM

Not as complicated as pizza and the ingredients were already well prepared. Okay. She supposed that didn't sound so bad then. No. Not really. Unless you counted the fact that Lex didn't even make her own sandwiches unless she absolutely had to. All food preparation was either tedious or difficult. In some cases it was both.

The Gryffindor gave a small nod before her eyes drifted over to Professor Domingo. After history they were STILL gonna be tortured with numbers?? She thought they were like....switching one out for the other today. What even?

Alright, fine, attention, the Professor had it. Lex would at least TRY looking like she was taking it all in.

OwlEcho63 07-29-2014 06:11 PM

Hazel scribbled down some notes as the professor spoke, leaving ink on her fingers. She wiped it off on her robe. It was black anyway, so no one would notice.

She looked over at Professor Domingo and prepared her quill. Why were there numbers in this anyway? Shouldn't they just be eating burritos while wearing sombreros?

She put down her quill and shook out her hand. Okay, now she was ready.

Stefan 07-29-2014 06:16 PM

Burritos? Oh yeaaaah! Ethan nodded, and tapped his table in excitement. Why? Because they might make one in a few moments, given that they are in the kitchen.

But of course.

Before they get to the main event, they will have to do some academic stuff first.

Oookay, as long as there's food involved then he's all game for this. Ethan got his notebook and muggle pencil out, ready to tackle the next activity.

Watson 07-29-2014 06:22 PM

They had to deal with numbers first?

But... But food. Glorious, scrumptious food! You couldn't just put food in front of their faces and then take it away. Well they could.. cause they're Professors and all. Simon frowned. If he did his work quickly and effectively, then he could eat quicker, right?

Alright, Simon could do that. Working with Arithmancy would probably wake up all of their appetites so that when it came time to eat all the delicious food, they would eat lots of it. He pulled out his notebook and quill, waiting for further instruction.

Casey O 07-29-2014 07:02 PM

Well, some of this class made sense so far. Marigold set down her quill and stretched her fingers while she waited for the Arithmancy stuff to start up. She grinned at the thought of food coming after numbers.

inCENTIVE.

WhittyBitty 07-29-2014 07:14 PM

When Professor Hadley agreed that tacos were involved, Lux immediately perked up. DID THIS MEAN THAT THEY WOULD BE MAKING TACOS TODAY?!

If so, this would be the best lesson ever alongside the one where they had made pizza. The mention of numbers made her groan inwardly, but Lux would get through it if it meant she could make tacos.

Chiara 07-29-2014 07:52 PM

Lucy continued to take notes..
Would they be making Mexican food today?
But first they would begin a new lesson of Arithmancy..
Lucy was happy, she loved Arithmancy and...She was hungry!

Lolita Domingo 07-29-2014 08:07 PM

Doflamingo? *brows*

Lolita smirked at some of the looks on the students' faces. Yes, they really did have to wait to get their food. No, she would not stand to hear complaining. "Alright, estudiantes, you heard la profesora. Quills and parchment out straightaway if you have not already been taking notes." They should have been jotting down what Fina was saying, but she didn't trust some of them to be so responsible.

She walked to the front of room, or at least what passed as the front in the kitchen, as the rustling of papers sounded. They should know by now to bring the supplies to her classes, but all the same she shot a look at Señor Pelo to check on him.

"Most of your homework was at least passable, and some of it was truly excepcional." She nodded in turn to Miss Carrington, Cockroach Kid (Mordred), the two Newells, Mr Adair, Miss Brown, and Mr Whitlock. "Where some were lacking was in their depth of analysis, which I hope you will strive to grow in today." Speaking of which... "We have been talking about Cinco de Mayo, or 5 May 1862. I would like you to reduce and analyze each form of the date," she waved her wand and three numbers formed out of blood-red ribbon in midair, "just like you did at the end of last lesson and in your homework. Remember that the meanings can be found on page four of your textbook."

She normally would circulate the room to answer questions, but they shouldn't need help with this now. Plus they knew they were always free to work with a partner. Lolita sidled over to where Josephina stood and decided to chat with her friend instead. "Too bad your little project didn't need all the ovens this place has. That would warm it up in here quite nicely."

Chiara 07-29-2014 08:44 PM

Angel knew that she had to try and do this work because she wanted to try and impress Professor Hadley and the Arithmancy teacher, so she really got into the flow with her work and tried to make it the best she could.

SPOILER!!: Angel's work

5 May 1862 =

5 May

Angel looked at her work and decided to double check it before she continued with the meaning, she wanted to make sure she was totally right before continuing with the work.

Casey O 07-29-2014 11:20 PM

Marigold could do adding. She did learn math in a muggle school, of course. She had to say, she was happy she didn't need many math skills at Hogwarts. But addition was easy. She picked her quill back up and started scribbling her answers.

SPOILER!!: Work
5 + 5 + 1 + 8 + 6 + 2 = 27 -> 2 + 7 = 9

5 + = = 10 -> 1 + 0 = 1

Now for the meanings. Marigold scanned her textbook, and then wrote down what she found.

SPOILER!!: More work
9 means "tolerance," "teaching," and "strength."
1 is "beginning" or "innovation."

5 is "change" or "versatility."

Was that right?

OwlEcho63 07-29-2014 11:48 PM

SPOILER!!: Meanings
9= perfection, compassion, dedication, completion
1= independence, originality, innovation
5= freedom, curiosity, change

She hoped she got them right.

FearlessLeader19 07-30-2014 12:02 AM

Good thing he had made notes as Professor Hadley spoke about the significance of Cinco de Mayo. They would come in handy for his interpretations. He was quite used to this activity by now so he could started right away.

SPOILER!!: Adi's work

5 May 1862= 5+5+1+8+6+2=27=2+7=9
Meanings: Endings, tolerance, metamorphasis, cosmic, teaching, global awareness, perfection, power/strength, short-lived, immediacy.
Interpretation: The end of invasions by the Europeans to Americans. The French victory over Mexico City was a short lived one due to the US providing help in the form of politics and military. That part represents power or strength of working together to defeat the enemy.

5 May= 5+5=10=1=0=1
Meanings: Beginning, independence, innovation, leadership
Interpretation: It was a new beginning for the Mexican people. They gained their Independence under the leadership and innovation of Benito Juarez.

5=5
Meanings: Change, transition, progressive thinking, resourceful, freedom, versatility, physical world, physical touch
Interpretation: The change or transition from war to peace for the Mexicans was due to their progressive thinking both from themselves and the US. Despite them being outnumbered, they still fought and emerged victorious because they used the resources they had at hand- courage and skill.

There. He was done.

oh its Erik ok 07-30-2014 12:30 AM

Domingo was giving him looks, awesome looks, that meant this lesson was a success before it even began.

Perfect.

But it was also the time to get to the math work and not make jokes in his head about how hard math is.

SPOILER!!: Nigel's Awesome Work

5 + 5 + 1 + 8 + 6 + 2 = 27

2 + 7 = 9

5+5=10

Meanings -

1 - First leader who innovates

5 - The Times They Are a-Changin'

9 - The Circle of Life

He forgot to bring his book like usual and Agatha was not across from him to share a book. So those were his best guesses. He liked them.

Watson 07-30-2014 12:42 AM

Ah, they would be practicing the reduction method and looking up the meanings of the numbers that they achieved. Alright.. Simon took out his quill and began jotting down the numbers in his notebook. Let's see.

SPOILER!!: notebook
5 May 1862
5 + 5 + 1 + 8 + 6 + 2
= 27
2+7
=9

This number (9) means: Endings, tolerance, metamorphasis, cosmic, teaching, global awareness, perfection, power/strength, short-lived, immediacy.

What does this mean to history: This number could mean the end of the French occupation and imperialism of Mexico. (?) However, the Mexican's victory was short-lived as Mexico City was taken.

5 May
5 + 5
=10
1+ 0
=1

This number (1) means: beginning, independence, innovation, leadership.

What does this mean for history: This was the first time Mexico successfully stood up to a European power. It gave a morale boost to the Mexican army and people.

5
=5

This number (5) means: Change, transition, progressive thinking, resourceful, freedom, versatility, physical world, physical touch

What does this mean for history: The Mexicans realized that they could actually stand up to the European powers.

He eyed his answers. There HAD to have been more than that to explain the significance of the numbers. Perhaps there was a history of magic book lying somewhere around here? Hmmm?

Daydreamer11 07-30-2014 12:55 AM

La Profesora had started her portion of the lesson and Jasmine was busy taking notes as she spoke. Then it was time to reduce and analyze. Jasmine really needed to put her thinking cap on for her Arithmancy tasks. She wrote down the dates they would be working on and opened her textbook.

SPOILER!!: Jasmine's interpretation
9: Endings, tolerance, metamorphasis, cosmic, teaching, global awareness, perfection, power/strength, short-lived, immediacy

5 May 1862 was the ending of the Battle of Puebla. There was a metamorphosis because the victory inspired and transformed the country of Mexico. Power and strength did not result in a win for France. The success was short lived because one year later, France captured Mexico City.

1:Beginning, independence, innovation, leadership

Cinco de Mayo represented a new beginning for Mexico. While it was not their true Independence Day, Mexico achieved theoretical independence because the did not allow France to prevail. The Mexican army was innovative in finding ways to win the battle when they were outnumbered.

5: Change, transition, progressive thinking, resourceful, freedom, versatility

The fifth of May marked a change in how Mexico was perceived by others, especially the more powerful countries. The Mexicans had freedom from war after the battle ended. Again the army showed resourcefulness and versatility in finding a way to win against all odds.

Whew, that was taxing. As usual, Jasmine had a headache when she finished analyzing her numbers, but she had done it. She put down her quill and rested her brain for a moment.......at least until the next task.

Lolita Domingo 07-30-2014 01:04 AM

5=5

Ah, someone was past the initial stages. She perused the parchment. "Well done, Mr Rehman. Perhaps see if there is someone else who needs assistance?"

What does this mean for history: The Mexicans realized that they could actually stand up to the European powers.

He eyed his answers. There HAD to have been more than that to explain the significance of the numbers. Perhaps there was a history of magic book lying somewhere around here? Hmmm?

Good, another person had gotten past the initial stages now. "Well done Mr Holden. If you are satisfied with your interpretations you might see if anyone else needs assistance. If not, feel free to continue." He hadn't written as much as what she had come to expect as his norm.

5 May 1862: 5+5+1+8+6+2=27-->2+7=9
5 May: 5+5=10-->1+0=1

And what did Miss Guidry have for her today? "Sí, well done." Perhaps even a shade better than her homework had been.

ArianaBlack 07-30-2014 01:21 AM

Wait a minute, Professor Domingo was that a head nod!? To THIS Gryffindor! Dios Mio!! Ahem. Did that meant that his homework was one of the exceptional ones and not one of the meh ones? Did it? Because man it actually felt kind of nice to have done something right for once! Zander wasn't really one all for Arithmancy, but this gave him a little confidence booster and he decided to get started on the assignment right away!

Quote:

5 May 1862
5+5+1+8+6+2=27
2+7=9
Meanings: Endings, teaching, global awareness, power/strength
Possible Interpretations: Could possibly mean Endings because it marks the celebration of the end of the battle. It also acts as a point of Teaching because after the battle several points of learning can be drawn about how not to sell yourself short. Even though the Mexicans looked like they were going to lose they totally persevered and one! Which could teach us all a lesson or too and we're not just talking about Arithmancy here. I also think Global Awareness is important because it allowed the rest of the world to see what Mexico was really capable of. And lastly, Power/Strength because of the strength Mexico had to overcome the battle they were faced with and power because in the end they proved to be more than just a weak army.

5 May
5+5=10
1+0=1
Meanings:Beginning, leadership
Possible Interpretations: I think that Beginning is an important meaning because it ties into the beginning of a new thought process for Mexico, in the sense that it kinda helped them see that they weren't as weak as everyone thought. It is also the beginning of fun celebrations and good times! Leadership because without good leaders the army would have fallen at the sight of an enemy French dude.

5
...=5
Meanings: Change, transition, progressive thinking
Possible Interpretations:Change is totally in here because it changed everyone's minds about Mexico and their army. It also was a change from how weak Mexico was compared to the French and how they changed that in the battle. Transition because it transitioned the mindset into one of celebration, even though people thought they would have been grieving. Progressive Thinking because it taught people to think all the positive things now instead of selling ourselves short and not believing in ourselves. The whole anything is possible if you set your mind to it thing. My mom always says that, but maybe Mexico's moms said that too and then this happened?

Phew. That took way too long. But thankfully he was finally done. He looked around to spot Professor Domingo going around and viewing everyone else's papers, so he waited for her to make her way towards him. Because he was done too!

DaniDiNardo 07-30-2014 01:27 AM

Alright, she would admit that if they were looking at this kind of number thing then she didn't have many complaints. Reducing was easy enough and wouldn't give her nearly as much of a headache as all that history stuff they had to be focusing on...minus the fact they were reducing the history date in question. Details details.

It was noted that the Professor was going around the room as she usually did while the students did their calculations but admittedly the Gryffindor had been distracted by what the thought might have been a batter of chocolate left on the counter. Who would do such a thing? It was so wasteful. Might as well let her have it.

Er...but more to the point of the lesson and the reducing....

Nine:
Meaning - Endings, tolerance, metamorphasis, cosmic, teaching, global awareness, perfection, power/strength, short-lived, immediacy
Interpretation - This is when the war happened and like....everyone learned that Mexico was a force to be reckoned with...so that could be global awareness as well as power and strength speaking to the Mexican forces that beat the French.

One:
Meaning - Beginning, independence, innovation, leadership
Interpretation - It must have taken some real strong leadership in order for them to beat a country like France when they were thought to be the underdogs but they had that leadership and I'll assume they gained some form of independence from it after.

Five:
Meaning - Change, transition, progressive thinking, resourceful, freedom, versatility, physical world, physical touch
Interpretation - This has Mexico written all over it with the versatility and all that they displayed during the whole fight and resourcefulness must have been a thing too otherwise they'd have crumpled under the French by now. Definitely seeing some change. For once the little guys won.

Mhm, she was done.

Okay, say WHAT?!

They were going to be making food? FOOD?! GOOD food? Swear to Merlin, most of the lessons this year was linked with food and Grayson had NO complaints whatsoever. It meant that they could EAT in class, a very good sign if they didn't end up burning down the place. And the food listed? Tacos, burritos and a whole range of other food that was making him hungry just by the thought of them.

It was also making him almost miss whatever it is that came next with the Arithmancy portion.

See? Distractions.

And so, gathering up his senses, Grayson turned his attention towards yet another distraction. "Heeeeeey Soph. What do you say to working together on this as well?" Just like last time, where the most unlikeliest of pairings made for some brilliant results. Juuuuust saying.

SMIRK.

Come on, Newell, you can't say no to this face.

Sophie perked up. Did Hadley say something about eating? AWESOME. Sophie couldn't wait to try all the Cinco de Mayo foods! Tacos! Burritos! Enchiladas! EEE! First, though, they had to do calculations. How cruel, having to do Arithmancy before you can eat.

...BUT--there might just be a silver lining to having to do calculations before they ate. Sophie was just getting out her quill and a piece of parchment when Mr. Slytherin Hottie himself turned his attention toward her. Now that was always a very nice surprise--having Grayson Whitlock turn all his attention toward her. She smiled her best 'I have it bad for you and am trying to impress you' smile. "Of course I'll work with you," she said. "How could I say no to that smirk?" And to those eyes...and that hair, too.

She looked toward the dates Domingo had provided and turned back to Grayson. "So do you want to do the calculations and look up the meaning for the first one? I'll do the interpretation," she volunteered. She thought she remembered them doing it backwards last time, so this would be a swap of roles.

MudInMyBlood 07-30-2014 01:50 AM

Oh no, AJ never did get the hang of this number reduction thing in the last lesson. How on earth was she going to get it now? Before she went into total freak out mode, she told herself to just do normal muggle addition. The lion could totally handle that.

Picking up her quill, she scratched it across her parchment. They weren't allowed to work in pairs, right? With a sign she tried to make sense of the numbers that were staring up at her.

How she managed to get through that, she had no idea. She was done though, and that meant it was time for some mexican food.

A lot was going on. A lot, and Beverly was taking note of everything. Switching her gaze from Professor Hadley to Professor Domingo, she gripped her quill tighter. Okay. This lady, she had to pay attention to her because she tended to lose Beverly half way.

Thank Merlin, though, the Slytherin was quite alert and grasped what was being said and the assignment. She quickly started on it before she over analyzed it and confused herself.

SPOILER!!: Bev's parchment

5 May 1862

5+5+1+8+6+2 = 27 --> 2+7 = 9

NINE: Endings, tolerance, metamorphasis, cosmic, teaching, global awareness, perfection, power/strength, short-lived, immediacy

Meaning: The way I interpret it is that Mexico had the strength to have won over the French when they should have lost, which was a big surprise to everyone at the time. It was also an ending to that battle, but it was rather short lived due to Mexico City being overtaken.

5 May

5+5 = 10 --> 1+0 = 1

ONE: 1:Beginning, independence, innovation, leadership

Meaning: This win was the beginning in a new way of thinking for Mexican people. It gave them confidence and the independence they needed to keep going forth and fighting.

5 = 5

FIVE: Change, transition, progressive thinking, resourceful, freedom, versatility, physical world, physical touch

Meaning: This battle changed both how Mexicans saw themselves and how other countries did too. They were strong and could kick serious butt when it came to their freedom. It was a big change.

There. She was done. Re-reading it she checked over her answers. They were descent. Nice. She was going to re-read it just in case.

His work was exceptional? Really? Well, THANK YOU, Professor because his brain turned into mush right after he finished that one. At least he got something extra out of it, yeah? Ethan tipped his huge sombrero as he caught Domingo’s eyes and gave her a grin. You’re welcome, professor. Mhm.

Then comes the challenge. The blond boy got his notebook, book, and muggle pencil and went down to business. This should be easy, yeah? Yeah.

SPOILER!!: Ethan's Work!
5 May 1862
= 5 + 5 + 1 + 8 + 6 + 2
= 27
=2 + 7
= 9
Nine (9): Endings, tolerance, metamorphosis, cosmic, teaching, global awareness, perfection, power/strength, short-lived, immediacy.

Interpretation:
The 5th of May 1862 was, according to Muggle History is the Battle of Puebla in Mexico City. The battle took an unexpected result with the Mexicans winning, despite their small number against the French. The date of the battle, when reduced, produces the number 9. ‘Endings’ could pertain to the last colonization efforts of a European nation, as well as an ‘Ending’ to the two nations’ conflict. ‘Metamorphosis’ and ‘Global Awareness’ can also be applied as this brings change towards how the world views wars and battles. Who would have thought that such group could win a war? The meaning of ‘Teaching’ can also be applied as this could be a good study in military tactics and such. ‘Cosmic’ is also a relatable meaning to the battle as it showcases 8,000 men versus 4,000 soldiers. With the battle falling on said date, the result could have been theorized as ‘Short-lived’, and this was in fact proven as stated in muggle history books.

5 May
= 5 + 5
= 10
= 1

One (1): Beginning, independence, innovation, leadership.

Interpretation:
May 5 or Cinco de Mayo, is celebrated every year to commemorate the victory of the Mexicans against the French. Annually, the new ‘Beginning’ that the war has brought to the Mexican nation is celebrated, so that the present and future generation may never forget what was lost and gained.
5

Five (5): Change, transition, progressive thinking, resourceful, freedom, versatility, physical world, physical touch.

[Interpretation
Any event that will fall on the fifth may bring change, transition in the physical world or ones self. This can also be applied to objects that bears the number five.

He KNEW this far was irresistible.

As was that smile that she was wearing rather well. Jeez, Soph.

Regain that composure, Whitty. Cool, calm and collected. That's what he was going to try and be. "Exactly," he said in regards to the part about not being able to say no to his smirk, even throwing in an extra wink too. Just because. "Thanks for pairing up with me." And maaaaaybe they could do the same if they were going to be cooking. It was something to think about.

Seriously? He had hoped that SHE would do the calculations. The girl was writer at that while Whitty was better at rambling on about something as making it sound smart. "'Course I can do that. It's only fair." Since she DID do the calculations last time. So, picking up his quill, Grayson pulled a piece of parchment closer towards him and started scribbling away.

Well that had been dead simple. Especially the last one.

"Your turn! Have at it," he said, sliiiiiiding the piece of parchment over towards the third year.

WhittyBitty 07-30-2014 03:14 AM

Oh. They were being asked to do more simple addition like they had in the last lesson. That wasn't too bad, as Lux had a better handle on that aspect of Arithmancy than she had in the stuff they covered in the first lesson.

In her notebook she wrote down the numbers they were to reduce and then jotted down the answers as she worked them out:

In the textbook, 9 represents endings, power/strength, and short-lived. This date was the ending of the Battle of Puebla and the victory changed Mexico. This was an ending of how things used to be and their power/strength is what helped them to defeat France. This change didn't last long, as a year later Mexico City was captured by the French.

5 May
5 + 5 = 10
1 + 0 = 1

In the textbook, 1 represents beginning, independence, and leadership. May 5 is the day that Cinco de Mayo is celebrated. This holiday commemorates the new beginning of Mexico and their theoretical independence when they didn't let France beat them at the Battle of Puebla. It was the leadership of the Mexican army that led to their victory, since they were outnumbered by the French army.

5
5 = 5

In the textbook, 5 represents change, resourceful and freedom. May 5th was a change from how Mexico used to be. The Mexicans gained freedom from war at the end of the battle. The Mexican army was resourceful, and that is how they won the war.

This number (9) means: Endings, tolerance, metamorphasis, cosmic, teaching, global awareness, perfection, power/strength, short-lived, immediacy.

What does this mean to history: Cinco De Mayo, 5th of May, is a holiday that marks the Battle of Puebla (1862) in Mexico City. It was the French versus the Mexicans. Despite the unreasonable odds set against the Mexicans (the French had a HUGE army), the Mexicans won (HOORAY). After applying the reduction method on this date, we get the number 9 which has to do with endings, tolerance, metamorphasis, cosmics, teaching, global awareness, perfection, power, short-lived, and immediacy. 'Endings' relates to the end of the battle as well as the end of European occupation in Mexico. However, this was short-lived. As France took over the city again but then that occupation was short lived as the Mexicans retaliated to win the day!

What does this mean for history: May 5th when reduced gives us the number one. This number is associated with beginnings, independence, innovation, an leadership. This was the first time Mexico successfully stood up to a European power. It gave a morale boost to the Mexican army and people. 'Beginnings' pertains to the fact that the Mexicans stood up to the Europeans and started to decide to think about becoming their own country hence independence.

This number (5) means: Change, transition, progressive thinking, resourceful, freedom, versatility, physical world, physical touch

What does this mean for history: The Mexicans realized that they could actually stand up to the European powers. When reflecting on this date, other people and countries will think about how this nation changed the physical world by separating from European Imperialism.

There we go. Now was that better, Domingo?
