It wasn't as cold as few months ago, but the classroom was significantly colder than it usually was at this time of the year. Professor Botros wasn't standing at his door greeting students as his habit was, he was seated behind his desk wearing a couple of cardigans and a wool hat. He had his elbows up on the table and seemed to be reading intently in a big book.
As you enter the classroom and take a seat, the blackboard has the following written on it.

"Alright," he said, looking back at the Gryffindor, "You're a sneaky one, Cambridge." What exactly was going to happen, he didn't know but he was going to do something he didn't usually do: blindly trust her.
Another glance was made towards the corner over there. One that was FAR away from Botros himself. SOMEONE wanted to remain inconspicuous, eh? SNORT. "You've picked the right person, then." Because he WAS in. Especially when hexes and other dangerous things could be involved here. BRILLIANT. "And what do we say if the Professor catches us? We need an excuse beforehand. A good enough reasoning." Because the number one reason why people got into as much trouble as they did was because they didn't have the right reasoning behind their actions.
ANYWAYS. Galdr. Right.
Grayson flipped his textbook open to the page of the Galdrs and started chanting the one for the ice rune, the runestone clutched in his hand. "Isa isa isa...... i i i i i i i i i...... i i i i i i s s s s s s......." Chant chant walk walk. ".....(s s s s s s i i i i i i)....... i i i i i i i i i......." How many times were they meant to chant this?
Reaching a spot near the corner of the room, the fifteen year old looked over at Lex. "What's the plan, then?"
There might have been the faintest trace of a smirk across her face when he told her she was sneaky. Who can really be sure about these things? See, this was why she propositioned Grayson for something like this. He was as up for this as she was and he still didn't have an idea as to what she'd brought him to this corner of the class for.
On the shuffle down the room she'd thought of what he'd said about needing a story. They did but really, how much trouble could they get in? Finally she shrugged, dropping her book to the nearest table deciding the chanting was over. "We got a little carried away and we're sorry? The rune took over and we were possessed? The fear of the snow apocalypse froze our thinking process?Does it really matter, it'll already be done and he wants us practicing anyway." So yes, Grayson, pay attention and stop worrying about the potential trouble they could be in. With so many students ahead of them, they were far less likely to be seen...depending on what they chose to do.
The Professor said the shield slowed things down...and she wanted to see. Understandable given her curiosity SO, with a light flick of her wand she vase of a decent size then placed it at her feet. "I'm going to fire this at you and you're going to cast protego--while using the rune of course and all that fancy stuff. Do us both a favour, don't miss." Or they'd never hear the end of it and it would likely be her fault. Not something she would deal with thanks.
"You ready?" Even after the question she gave him a bit of time to proper ready himself so they could see this rune in action, then, "Depulso!" The spell sent the vase flying right at the Slytherin. Lex's eyes locked on him, waiting, wondering how this would go and weather the Professor would mind a flying vase.
Technically....technically....no, nevermind, there was no technically. Just don't look Sir!

"I have the chant here...so I'll just stand over there, then you cast me with...uuuuuh...something? Jinx? Hex?" That's...how it's supposed to be, right? "Just...don't forget to unjinx me, okay?" Ethan smiled and showed his book to Lux and pointed at the Isa Galdr. See? He was being helpful, so do unjinx him after, yeah?
"Here it is. Isa Isa Isa...iiiiiiiiiiiiiiii...iiiiiisssss...ssssiiii... iiiiii." Was that some sort of Parseltongue? It sounded like one.
Not really understanding what they needed to do specifically, Lux was happy that Ethan seemed to not only want to work with her, but to actually have some idea of what to do. Was it obvious that Ancient Runes was probably her weakest subject? It was safe to say that she was struggling with this class more than she was with Transfiguration. In all likelihood she'd bomb both the OWL and NEWT for this subject. But that was years away, and this was the present.
Looking at the galdr for the Rune, she nodded and hoped that she had it all memorized correctly before joining in with the chant.
Wait, he wanted her to hex or jinx him? O_O
Not really sure she wanted to do that, Lux was relieved when she remembered that Professor Botros had said no hexes or jinxes. People who had suggested those were to use Finite instead. Okay, so she hadn't suggested ANYTHING but clearly she was allowed to use one of the spells. Maybe the disillusionment one would be cool. Casting water or air not so much, because of the freezing effects.
Making her mind up, she cast the Disillusionment Charm at Ethan.

"Heeeeeeey sis, wanna partner up?" he asked with a grin.
So it was partner time, which meant Sophie had to find somebody to work with first, before she even got started. She turned around and looked throughout the room. Everybody near her seemed to already be partnering up and practicing the spell, so she wandered further across the room.
That was when she walked right up to Caleb, and before she could ask him to partner up, he asked her. Convenient much? Ha. "Yeah, sure," she said.

Simon grinned and gave Zander a thumbs up. Oh right. Getting started would be good. "Yes, we should get started now. No time like the present," he said with a wide grin and a chuckle. The Slytherin eyed his notebook and read the steps that he had written out. He pulled out an Isa runestone and then glanced at his notebook. "Okay, so we have the Isa runestone. Now we have to chant to activate galdr and use it with the spells we suggested. Do you want to chant or cast finite?"
the Gryffindor smiled as Simon replied. They really did make a good pair, no arguments or anything. The Gryffindor opened his eyes widely as he realized that he hadn't taken out his book yet! OOPS! That'd definitely be important. Setting the rune aside for a minute, the boy grabbed his bag once again and found his textbook. It was kind of dusty because he hadn't really taken it out as much as he should have.... Heh, oops? But it was kept in good condition so that was the important bit, right?
Ahem. Right. Anyways. Zander thought about Simon's question for a little bit before finally speaking. "I reckon you're always better with the spellwork, remember when we met? I would've gotten use killed if I had to use my wand!" So the obvious choice for casting the spell would have to be Simon. Zander actually wanted to do well in this class, without burning it down first. "And I can do the chant then?" He felt like he was the one making all the decisions, so then he looked back up and smiled, "B-but only if that's cool with you Simon?"

Right. After they almost won the race in the combined Charms and Care Of Magical Creatures class, Simon nodded his head. He wouldn't dispute Zander's claim. If Zander thought that he was superior in spell work then he'd do it to make things easier. "Sure! Works for me. Oh no, totally cool with me, mate. We should find the chant. Do you mind?" he asked before using Zander's copy of the dusty textbook (why wasn't the textbook properly taken care of? Zander and he would work on that- yes, yes), then he opened it, flicked a couple of pages to the index, and then found the Isa chant. "Here's the chant. Then he took out his notebook and wrote down the chant. It'd be useful to remember it later, hey?

Containment charm? Maybe they could...contain the cold water to a finite space or something? Hmmm. "I dunno, if we don't do the containment spell right we'll get water everywhere," he pointed out. He was NOT about to get his shoes all wet, they'd freeze over in minutes! He wasn't sure what she was thinking though and waited to hear her suggestion.
"Maybe we do one of each?" he suggested. Work on one for right now, and then work on the other one later?

'We got a little carried away and we're sorry? The rune took over and we were possessed? The fear of the snow apocalypse froze our thinking process?'
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!
Grayson had to slap his hand over his mouth to stop himself from being heard. The silent laughter was still happening, with the occasional snort here and there, because LOL. He didn't know which one of the excuses he found the funniest. Maybe the last one because the fifteen year old didn't peg Lex as the type of person to be scared about something like that. Probably a lack of sweets but not that.
Clearing his throat, he spoke up and said, "Right. Don't think he can say much for using the runestone as well. Technically, we're doing the work." Smirk. "It only matters because if we get caught, we need to make sure to have a plan on how to wiggle out of it ahead of time." Just saying.
And there was a vase. A VASE. See, if there was anyone else here, he would have thought that flowers would be the next thing that would appear and certain other people would get a wink and a wiggling of the eyebrows. The flowers would have been for HIM, of course. But this was Cambridge and he gave her a curious look up until she started explaining what was going on. "So you're going to fire a vase at me FACE?!" Jeez. This sounded like one of those plans where a million and one things could go wrong.
Apparently, the answer was yes because THERE WAS A FREAKING VASE FLYING AT HIS FACE.
All thoughts about trying to remain as quiet as possible was cast out the window as Grayson whipped out his wand in his right hand -- his left hand still holding onto the Isa runestone -- and cried, "PROTEGO!"
HOLY FREAKING MERLIN! His eyes were wide as a bright blue shield popped up, making the vase sloooooooooooooooow down in mid-air, as if someone had switched the mode to slow-mo, before coming to a stop altogether. A vase. A vase frozen in mid-air. HOW FREAKING COOL WAS THAT? Did Lex see? DID SHE?
Leah picked up her quill to start taking notes but soon realized that there was way too many spells and names. She simply listened to the professor and scribbled down the names of spells that worked well with Isa. She would need that for the practical portion of the lesson.
The second year had not suggested any spells just now, so that probably meant she was free to use any. First thing first, she would need a partner. Leah craned her neck and scanned the room. There was Angel! The perfect partner bestie! Was she looking for her too? Leah stood up and walked over to the younger girl, patting her on the shoulder once. "HEY Angel. We should partner up." she said with a wink.
Angel smiled when she heard her best friend speak to her, it had been ages since they had spoke. "Where you been hiding?" Angel pouted, she wasn't sure if she wanted to work with her bestie because she had been ignoring her all this time.
"Yeah we should." Angel gave a wink back, she was glad that her best friend was okay. She had started to worry about her but well it seemed like there was no need to.

Adi flicked his text book open to the page containing the Galdr chants and looked up Isa. Oh, there it is! He started to chant, looking for Benny. He needed him to cast the jinx at him, after all. Yeah, he just realised that. Hehe.
"Isa isa isa i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i s s s s s s (s s s s s s i i i i i i) i i i i i i i i i." He spotted his bestie and poked him on the shoulder. "Benny, could you be a sport and cast the Impedimenta jinx at me?'' While he waited for the Lion to reply, Adi continued his chanting. Benny had been lost in trying to make sense of what they were all talking about. He got the use of runes with spells and he had managed farely well in the last lesson, even if it had gotten cut short by the really bad weather that had risked their safety. And chanting the Isa should be just like chanting the rune they had been using then. Easy peasy from there backwards.
It was just deciphering what spells to use that would be the best. The professor explained his thoughts on each of the suggested and then written down spells and Benny was listening intently until the point he almost zoned out. The stopping of trouble caught this attention though which narrowed the spells down in his mind. The Gryffindor had been just about to start his own chanting when Adi spoke up asking to partner up.
"Sure..." he answered, slipping out his wand from his pocket and thinking on the spell mentioned. That would make things easier...working together. The impendiment jinx. Benny watched to make sure his friend was ready before aiming. "Impendimenta!" His wand hand guiding the wood in his grasp into a straight line in front of him casting the spell.

Excellent! Benny had agreed to partner up, though Adi knew he would. What else were besties for? Hehe. Anyway, the Hufflepuff was done with the Galdr chanting. Just in time too for Benny wasted no time in throwing the jinx at him.
Adi hurriedly raised his wand, still holding on to the Isa runestone. "FINITE!'' No Shield Charm because Professor Botros said to use Finite for jinxes. As Adi watched, the turquoise light that shot from Benny's wand at a rapid pace towards him. The red light from the counter spell caused the turquoise light to disintegrate a second later.

Lex grinned, happy he'd found humour in what she said but really she couldn't have been more serious. She didn't think Botros would catch them and even if he DID it would be evident what they were doing. Explanations wouldn't be necessary and he probably wouldn't even ask for them. No need to dwell on something they'd never use.
"Precisely! We're doing what he asked, practising and we'll be better persons for it." Just think how much more they could do do with this rune handy...once it proved its worth of course.
Funny how he was making such a big deal about his face...like she was asking permission...or like she was taking no for an answer after she'd already gotten him to haul his butt down here. Yes Grayson, she would be aiming at your face. "Since you care so much, I don't suspect you'll let yourself get hit. This will do perfectly." Grayson was a Snake, his face would mean more to him than life itself. If he had to duck, she didn't think he'd have problems hitting the floor like he was ready to marry gravity.
And there it was, the cast. Way before...it...got close...."Whoooaaa......" For a moment Lex just stood there, watching the vase drift slowly across the space between them before coming to a complete stop mid-air......"Epic...."
Bright eyes regarded the vase as she walked over to it and gave it a jab with her wand. "Dude, tell me I'm not the only one seeing this." Even with poking it didn't move. "We gotta try that again! Did you SEEEE that slow-mo action?? Reckon we could try that on a person eventually?" Yes? YES?
Lex vanished the vase that stood between them then went to stand where she had been before. "Give it a go."

Woah...
Maybe he should have waited on that spell. Adi had to move quickly to respond to him and time. Yet still the Hufflepuff had managed to do just that, casting the finite spell to try and counteract his own wandwork with the rune's assistance. The quick action briefly reminding Benny of the last time they had dueled and his friend had clearly won the round between them.
The turquoise and red light colliding into a surprising image before canceling each other out like he supposed was the point of the exercise. "Wow..." he absently mused, nodding in confirmation to Adi's suggestion AND his comment on the coolness of it all. Benny raised his wand arm once more in preparation, hoping to give his companion the same chance this time around.

"Impedimenta!"
Adi did have a cool bestie, didn't he? Benny readily agreed to throw the spell at him for a second time. "After this, I'll cast the spell at you so you can try out using Isa and Finite,'' Adi said.
With that, he raised his wand, just as he wondered if he should chant the Isa Galdr again. No time to worry about that now; turquoise light was zooming his way.
"Finite!'' The Hufflepuff traced out the complicated wand movement that accompanied the incantation as he held on to the Isa runestone in his wand hand. This time before the red light from Benny's wand disintegrated, it slowed. One second it was shooting towards the Puffer and the next it was crawling, almost at a snail's pace. Double the awesome!
"That was so COOL!'' Adi grinned happily. He was pleased with his spell work. "Okay, Benny. You should chant the Galdr.'' Yep.
Emmylou finished up the last tid bit of her notes and looked around for a partner. She didn't mind who her partner was but she really wanted Kace to be her partner but not because he was her boyfriend but because Kace is and will always be her bestest friend in the whole wide world. Now she just had to find him. The third year looked high and low or her boyfriend. Maybe she was going blind or something? O___O She knew that he was in the class, she had seen Kace when he had walked into class but now it's like he got up and disappeared. Was that even possible? Emmylou shrugged and got up from her seat to walk around and see if she could cover more ground on her feet.

Good thing Simon was looking for all this stuff because Zander wouldn't even know where to start. There was a reason why this subject was one of his worst.... Oops. Right anyways. The Gryffindor watched as he found the right page and let out a small chuckle at the mention of being a snake. It was rather ironic actually. The Gyffindor being the snake and the Slytherin... well, not being the snake.
Ahem. "Alright, I'll start practicing," he carefully looked over at the textbook and copied down the galdr for reference. "Uh, isa isa isa i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i s s s s s s (s s s s s s i i i i i i)...i i i i i i i i i?" That was a mouth full... The Gryffindor gave his friend a thumbs up as he got out of his chair. "Alright, that wasn't too bad... We should probably stand though if we want this to work properly!" He let out a small chuckle. Careful not to get in anyone else way, the Gryffindor started moving far enough away from Simon. "Alright, whenever you're ready!" With rune in hand, Zander began chanting again. For good measure. "isa isa isa i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i s s s s s s (s s s s s s i i i i i i)...i i i i i i i i i!"
Was that enough?

Simon nodded and tried to decide what he was going to cast at Zander. He could use a disarming one but what if his spell went through and harmed his mate. He'd never ever forgive himself for that. He wouldn't want to hurt Zander. No way. So he rummaged through his bag for something. Then he picked up a piece of parchment and transfigured it into a football (or a soccerball for the record). After watching Lex and Grayson use the spells and seeing the charm she had used to fling the vase into the air (seriously a vase? Weere they crazy?!)
"Okay, I'm going to through this right at you. I would have used a spell but I don't want something bad to happen. Remember use the Finite Spell against it, alright?" said Simon as he took a deep breath and pulled out his wand. "Depulso!" he cried and the soccer ball flung itself into the air and headed straight for Zander.
Simon held his breath.
Please block it, mate.

Uh huh. "Sounds like a plan." Best to try it himself and get the full effect of the magic. The slowing down of the spell was indeed even cooler than the outright stopping of it. More of a reaction.
Right....galdr chanting.
The first step in the spell stopping, at least the type with the added advantage of runic magic. Just like the modified flames of the last lesson and what he had been about to simple practice before. Benny glanced down at his own textbook to refresh what he had to chant to get it to work right. It seemed simple enough with just three letters overall, yet he needed to concentrate. So taking a deep breathe, the third year began to chant.
"Isa Isa Isa i i i i i i i i i i s s s s s s s s s s s s s i i i i i i i i i i...."
Alright time for activity time! He needed a partner? Well he would find one eventually but he was proud Bostros put his idea on the board. He smiled and then moved from his desk and wrote down the instructions on his notebook. It didn't seem like a bad task! He went looking and found his girlfriend who was wandering aimlessly. He wondered if she was looking for a partner too or already had one. She was a popular one. He smiled and approached her and said, "Hey Emmy wanna be partners for this activity?" he asked his girlfriend. He hoped she said yes.

Adi waited patiently as Benny chanted the galdr. He sniggered when he realised his friend sounded like a hissing snake. Come to think of it, all of them must have sounded like that at one point.
Anyway, it seemed Benny was done. "You all set?'' the Badger asked. He waited a few extra seconds so Benny could prepare, then raised his wand. "Impedimenta!'' There goes the red light. Think fast, Dragon!

Zander stood with rune in one hand and wand in the other. He was totally ready for this. Totally. Actually, he wasn't really sure what Simon was going to cast at him... So maybe not as ready as he first felt. Hm. The longer he waited for Simon, the more uneasy he felt. So instead of standing there nervously, he began chanting the galdr a couple more times. Incase. This thing had to work, right?
WOAHHH did he just transfigure parchment into a football!? Awesome! See, there was a reason why Simon was in charge of the complicated spell work. That boy always knew just what to do. As the Slytherin in mention began to speak, Zander nodded his head. "Don't worry Simon, it'll be fine!"... Well he hoped it'd be fine. No right he was totally ready. Totally.
Before he knew it, the football was flying towards him. AHHH Simon had some REALLY good aim. Wait, why was he just standing there!? The ball was only less than a mere meter away from face when he yelled, "Finite!" He then watched as the ball came to a slow... slow... veeeeeerrry slow, halt. Everything else around him was going on at a normal pace, but the ball... That was weird. As the ball came to a halt, Zander looked towards Simon with pure excitement. "SIMON! DIDJA SEE THAT?!"

"Maybe we do one of each?" he suggested. Work on one for right now, and then work on the other one later?
Sophie thought about what Caleb had said about the Containment Charm. "Yeah, I guess you're right. The last thing I want to do is experiment with something I don't have a lot of experience with," she admitted. She collected her Isa rune and just stared at it as if it might have all the answers carved right across it.
It didn't.
"Okay, well, let's do this," she said. "I'll try it first, and then you can have a go at it next. Why don't you chant for me while I cast?" Sophie held the rune in her right hand alongside her wand. With a flick of her wand, she said, "Aguamenti!" She waited for Caleb to start chanting.

He had to chant? But it was HISSSSS idea! Booooo. Frowning slightly, Caleb cleared his throat and quickly flipped through his book until he found the page with the correct chant on it. She had already started, so time to chant!
"isa isa isa...i i i i i i i i i...i i i i i i s s s s s s...(s s s s s s i i i i i i)...i i i i i i i i i..." he chanted. He kind of sounded like a snake. It was weird.
OH WAIT he needed a cup or something! Digging in his bag for his portable water bottle - which was, thankfully, empty - he pushed it in front of Sophie's wand just as the water started to flow out. Thank goodness, that could have been MESSY.
"It feels pretty cold," he noted, feeling the water through the thin plastic of the bottle. He then smirked at his sister. "How do you think it feels?" he asked.
And with that, he took the bottle, gave it a light squeeze, and flicked JUST a bit of the cold freezing water on her face. Hehehehehe.

Oh, wait--MERLIN! She'd forgotten to put down something to AIM the water into. She kind of flailed a little and almost cast Finite until she noticed that Caleb had produced a water bottle and pretty much saved the day.
Oops.
She'd thank him later, but right now, she didn't want to mess up the charm. He'd chanted, too, which was meant to do something different to the water--make it colder, maybe? Sophie wondered what the water would be like when they touched it. "Finite!" she said, ending the charm.
Caleb was holding the water bottle in his hands, so Sophie leaned forward a little to get a better look. "What does it--..." She never got to finish that question. A squirt of ICE COLD water hit her right in the nose. "CALEB!" she fussed. "That was FREEZING!"
He was SO getting this water dumped all over his head when this was over. "Save that water. I have another water bottle we can use," she said. She produced it and held it out for Caleb to aim into.

"I like the way you think, Cambridge," he said, nodding slowly and smirking a little. Of course, this was probably something he had mentioned to her before but the statement still stood as a true one.
SNORT. "Of course! What kind of weird kid would stand there and let themselves get hit if there was a way to defend themselves?" It was exactly that: weird. Everyone knows that you should at least duck if you can't defend yourself. Or he HOPED everyone knew that. The world would be a much smarter place with these little life lessons, he was sure of it. "We make a good team." Again, true.
She DID notice the vase! YES! "Isn't it just BRILLIANT?" Like something out of the movies. Merlin, he wanted to try it again, but add in a slow motion backwards ducking while he put up the shield charm so that it looked like he was expertly dodging something. Just BRILLIANT. As for whether they could try it on a person, Grayson thought about the idea for a second or so before trning to her and asking, "What? Throw a PERSON and watch them slow down and then stop in midair?" That sounded very VERY cool. And a little dangerous.
PERFECT.
But first, it was Lex's turn. Not to be thrown, of course. No. The Slythein reached into his bag that was sitting somewhere over there and too out......... a book. A boring item but it would have to do. He wasn't THAT good at conjuring cool things just yet. "You ready?" Could she tell he was excited about this? BRING IT.
