It wasn't as cold as few months ago, but the classroom was significantly colder than it usually was at this time of the year. Professor Botros wasn't standing at his door greeting students as his habit was, he was seated behind his desk wearing a couple of cardigans and a wool hat. He had his elbows up on the table and seemed to be reading intently in a big book.
As you enter the classroom and take a seat, the blackboard has the following written on it.

Lucy raised her wand and she said : " Professor I think that this Rune could enhance the effect of the spell:" Protego". The wizard who uses this spell is protected by a shield that defends him by the attack of his enemies but meanwhile the wizard has the time to think about the next incantation and he can increase his concentration.. If the wizard hasn' t the willpower or he is not focused on the sign the shield can be broken by another spell"

"How about Salvio Hexia? It's like a sort of protective barrier that one can use to stop from getting hexed. Like you said with Isa, it means to create a sort of obstacle or unwanted energy. Salvio Hexia seems to be something like that, I mean, that it connects with what Isa means." There. That was Tag's answer. Err, sort of. Still a hint of confusion in Tag's answer but it was there no matter what.

Isa meant protection and also meant the halting of unwanted forces (as the textbook put it, right?). So by that logic, it seemed like it would be a good idea to pair Isa with any defensive charm. He raised his hand in the air and waited to be called on. Once he was called on, he began speaking. "As with Salvio Hexia, you could pair Isa with Cave Inimicum. The spell itself is used to strengthen a wall or enclosure from enemies. Its to protect yourself and your company. Since Isa can mean protection against unwanted forces then I think the two could work together nicely, producing an even stronger barrier to protect yourself," explained Simon. It sort of made sense to him.

Feeling that she'd gone out on a limb, Jasmine waited to see what the other students had to say.

Rather than just list another spell that it might work with, Penelope decided to ask her question. "Professor, you said that runes can be used to enhance spells, but can they also be used to enhance potions? We learned how to brew this potion in potions class that could be used to manipulate people by making them feel guilty. The potion is not as effective if the person's will is strong. Could Isa be used with this potion to suppress or block the emotions, other than guilt, of a strong willed person to make the potion more effective on them?" That would be interesting to experiment with if Isa could be used with the potion. Maybe she could get extra credit if she tried it. Even if she could not get extra credit, it would still be interesting to try, with supervision, of course.

When would they learn about a rune that helped with explosions? Lex was keen to learn something along those lines, if only to give her more to be in awe of when she went to the dueling arena these days.
This was telling of the fact she needed to teach herself another curse soon.

He only half-listened to the information about Isa, given it was really just refreshing things he knew already, And... now to name a spell. Well... He put his hand up. "What about disillusionment charms? Isa is good for stealth and illusion too, when it lies in opposition to other runes." Not merkstave exactly, given it couldn't be reversed... And... "If you had it engraved on your wand, professor, wouldn't it technically help you with casting any spell to some degree? Not necessarily the efficacy of the spell but more like... your focus and clarity in a way because it might help calm you if you tend to get nervous or worked up about not getting your spells right on the first go, and help you be patient with yourself as well." Which... lead to another sort of abstract thought of sorts. Relating to wands... and the fact that they were.... sort Isa shaped. West mused on this a bit but kept his thoughts on that matter to himself.

Botros stood there staring at the list with a broad smile. "Most of those spells are great with Isa. Some are better than others, let us specify; Protective spells do work well with Isa but they work better with Algiz as we learned last term, the protective side of Isa is limited to stopping the bad literally stopping it in time or in space. It doesn't remove it, it just freezes it until you move out of the way or duck." He hoped they were writing what he was saying because it was serious information.
"The cheering charm works alright with Isa but if you want a real mood booster there's definitely a better rune to go with that. Isa would calm an enraged person rather than cheer someone up." His cane touched the board to the next spell. "The levitation charm doesn't go well with Isa. It's a movement charm, Isa is all about stillness and staying in place, but thank you for thinking outside the box Mr. Adair.
"The Impedimenta jinx works great with Isa, as well as Petrificus totalus." He looked at the two boys who suggested them respectively, "Any jinx or hex that's about freezing or binding goes very well with Isa, but don't get any ideas now, those are only allowed in the Dueling arena." He chuckled, and moved on. "The Imperturbable charm does not benefit from Isa's magic energy, but the barrier it creates will hold longer than average. With the right rune master and some spells, the barrier would freeze the eavesdropper." He gave Whitlock a mischievous smile. "Ms. Newell here suggested a very interesting charm, the Containment charm. I would say, Newell, that this is a doable combination. You just need to really focus your intention when you summon Isa's magic and touch that deeper meaning of the rune if you want it to enhance that charm. It's a little harder to achieve than freezing water, like Mr. Newell just suggested, but it's doable." He had faith in the Slytherin girl, she had the dedication for it.
"Aguamenti and the other water spells do work with Isa, the rune would most likely get them to produce frozen or extremely cold water. So, if that is your intention, you're welcome to use it." The Newell boy got a small smile. "The same goes for Ventus, the rune would help produce really cold, sometimes with frozen particles even, wind. Be careful if you try it inside." He was not a fan of this combination, obviously.
As for the napping or sleeping spell, Botros chuckled. "Hibernating spell? You mean something that gives a drowsy effect on the castee? Hmm... Isa does have a calming effect if you have the right will when you invoke it, so yes, it could work." The little Hufflepuff got an encouraging smile. "Disillusionment charm, like Mr. Odessa suggested, would go very well with Isa. This rune's main energy is stasis, the disillusionment charm makes the target as a chameleon, it allows it to take the color and texture of what surrounds it, with Isa the disillusionment would stabilize the target's ability to mimic its environment. Brilliant suggestion, Mr. Odessa." Just like with Ms. Newell.
"Potions do work well with runes, Ms. Wright, but that's a discussion for another lesson." He gave the little Ravenclaw a warm smile before moving to the last student. "The answer I was looking for specifically is said by Mr. Mordaunt." Once again this boy impressed him. "Isa is a stopper, mainly. It works perfectly with Finite, the spell that stops any action or magic. I do realize that Isa doesn't end the process when it's used on its own, but with Finite, Isa significantly helps that spell in doing what it's supposed to do." He adds it on the board.
"Now. I want you all to take the Isa runestone, chant the galdr to activate it then use it with the spells you suggested. Those of you who suggested hexes and jinxes, please practice Isa with the Finite charm instead." He leaned backwards on his desk. "You may work with a partner, you need to work with one I'm assuming, and just be creative in how you use those spells. If there's no more questions, you may begin. I'm right here watching." So, no funny business.
ooc: - whew! okay, sorry it's long xD This is the last portion of the class and it's rewarded with 10 points (extra credit is possible).
- You need at least 5 posts to get full credit, creativity will get you EC.
- Class will remain open for another two days (maybe a little more), so you have enough time.
- Any questions or concerns you can PM/VM me.
- Have fun!
Lucy took notes and wrote everything the Professor was saying..
Then she started to look up the words of the chant in her old notes..
She decided to start her work and she took the runestone with her right hand..
Then she began to mutter:" kenaz kenaz kenaz Ku Ka ki Ke ko Kun Kan kin ken Kon..
ok eh ik ak uk.....kaiaunnnnnn.. Protego! "
But nothing happened..

Caleb didn't really think he needed a partner because of the fact that he was just practicing Aguamenti. Hehehe. Plus Botros had said it WOULD be kind of difficult, so if he succeeded, he was sure to get bonus points, right?!
Well, maybe he should get a partner, just in case he got bored trying to make cold water colder.
"Heeeeeeey sis, wanna partner up?" he asked with a grin.

Simon quickly copied down the spells that Botros recorded on the board in his notebook. Simon gave his mate a thumbs up when Botros announced that Ethan's answer was the one he was looking for. You go Holmes! he thought and then copied down the rest of what Botros had said in his notebook.
SPOILER!!: what to do
+ Obtain Isa runestone
+ Chant the galdr to activate it and use it with the spells we suggested.
+ Those who suggested hexes & jinxes- practice Isa with Finite charm
Once doing so, he glanced around the room for a partner. He had partnered up with Ethan in one class so he felt as if it would be fair to partner up with Zander for a lesson too. He liked trying to be fair. And besides, the two had become mates after partnering up for the race that they had almost placed in. Yep. They totally had it.
"Hey Zander! Wanna team up?" he asked as he waved to his mate.

Zander copied down some notes from the board, but not all of them because there were WAY too many. Also, runes was so blegh. And boooo his spell suggestion wouldn't really work. Sigh. But outside the box? He could take that! That was always good, right? It was better than being boring and in the box. Boxes were all claustrophobic anyways.
Right. At the sound of his name, Zander turned around and spotted Simon! YAY! Ah, Simon was great. Team up? Heck yeah! The Gryffindor wasted no time making his way over to his Slytherin pal. Even though they were technically in competition with each other, with the points being so close now, meh they made a pretty good team. So yes, he was totally going to work with Simon. "Which spell do you want to use Isa with, mate?" He wasn't paying too close attention at everything Botros had said, so he wasn't sure if Simon's suggestion was one of those that Botros recommended or not. But if it wasn't there was always that Finite one!

Despite their houses fighting over the house cup, Simon would once again put it all behind him to work with Zander. He honestly didn't care who won the House Cup just as long as he worked HIS butt off. LIES. HE WANTED TO WIN. WIN! WIIIIIN!
*Ahem*
He shot a friendly grin at Zander as his mate walked over towards him. "Awesome. I'd recommend the Disillusionment one that West suggested. It seemed like Botros thought that it would work well because Isa would 'stabilize' the charm's ability to create a believable enchantment," he said. "I suggested a protective charm but it wouldn't work too well. Or if you don't want to do that one, we could do Finite." Now he was just rambling.
"How about the Finite one?" That seemed simple but the Disillusionment charm seemed awesome to use with Isa.

Furiously writing down notes, Lux tried to keep up with everything that Professor Botros was telling them. Okay, so it seemed that there were certain things that Isa helped with, and other things that it didn't. To make life easier for her, she categorized everything into either "useful" or "not useful" to make life simpler for her. Especially Finite was good with the Rune, so that got a little star beside it.
The practical portion was a lot like what had happened in the last lesson, though that time it was fire that had been invoked. Usually she worked with her boyfriend, but he was obviously unavailable at the moment. "Anyone want to be my partner?" There were loads of awesome and nice people, surely one of them would want to work with her.

He was sure he will be needing those notes later on, besides Ancient Runes is staaarting to get interesting for the boy. It must be the awesome food that he devoured during their homework, no?
The Slytherin looked up briefly from his notes when Professor Botros called out his name. Sweeeeeet! He was right! To think it was another theory than a solid answer. He did squirm a bit though when he saw his second name on the board. He doesn't fancy the name Tyler that much. But anyway! Fun paaaaart!
Ethan got his Isa rune from his set, and looked around the classroom. Hmm. Simon's already partnered up with Zander, so he continued to look around for a partner-less student. Hello? Anyone?

The Gryffindor smiled, as he sat in the seat immediately next to his friend. The disillusionment one? Or the Finite one? Zander nodded as he listened to all that Simon had to say- which was a lot. The Gryffindor thought about it for a while before putting in his own thoughts. "Hmm okay, I think that either would be fine," Simon probably knew things a lot better than Zander did. So honestly, whatever Simon wanted to do was totally cool with him.
Just as he was about to voice this, the Slytherin boy spoke again. The Finite one? Yeah! Why not? "Yeah I think that sounds great!" He took his bag off the ground and rested it on his desk. Reaching a hand into it, he dabbled around until he found his Isa rune! Perfect. "Alright, so... Do we get started now?"

Seeing that Ethan seemed to be partner-less as well, Lux decided to go over and see if he wanted to work with her. They hadn't had much opportunity to talk, and this would give them a chance to get to know each other better. Ethan seemed to be really nice from what she knew.
"I can work with you," she said after making her way over to him. Surely he would agree to it, but maybe he had someone else in mind for a partner.
Angel was really confused as to what she was supposed to do at the minute, she really wished someone was around to help her, Lux had a partner and her sisters and Benny well she couldn't find. She was really scared now because well she wasn't good with chanting and well things probably could go wrong if she was left to do this herself, so did anyone want to be her partner?

Leah picked up her quill to start taking notes but soon realized that there was way too many spells and names. She simply listened to the professor and scribbled down the names of spells that worked well with Isa. She would need that for the practical portion of the lesson.
The second year had not suggested any spells just now, so that probably meant she was free to use any. First thing first, she would need a partner. Leah craned her neck and scanned the room. There was Angel! The perfect partner bestie! Was she looking for her too? Leah stood up and walked over to the younger girl, patting her on the shoulder once. "HEY Angel. We should partner up." she said with a wink.

So, um AJ had practically been zoned out the entire time and the next thing she knew, it was time to partner up. What happened? How long had she been daydreaming?
Blink.Blink.
Having a partner was essential because she wasn't even sure what was going on around her. Looking around she saw that her sister was already taken. Bummer. Oh, but somebody else was asking for a partner, and the boy looked familiar. Had they met before? Wait, was he the camera boy? "I'll be your partner." AJ hoped that he knew what it was that they were supposed to be doing.

"Yeah I do. I know a couple of 'em actually." Nod. Lots of law enforcement types in his family. "Sure I will. I'd rather partner with a Slytherin anyways." Who wouldn't though, lets be honest. He took a guess: "You wanna learn it and see how it might be better with the rune?" He didn't mind. Really.

Oh look it was that little Beverly girl. He eyed his shoulder where she'd poked it for a second and then gave her a cheerful smile.
Really.
She'd done it! She asked West Odessa to be her partner and he AGREED. He even smiled at her, in which she shot him a timid grin. Smiles. She likes those. Made people seem less intimidating.
"Yeah." She nodded slowly. "Can the spell be better with the rune? I mean...if the Disillusionment Charm conceals...will you become extra invisible with the rune?" Or something like that. How did it work? Would you feel any different?
The chant didn't work with Protego charm..
Then Lucy decided to follow the instructions of her professor..
Maybe she didn't say:"finite!"...perhaps her chant was not correct...
She said herself:"Come on Lucy!" and she decided to continue..

So they were going to do the Finite spell?
Awesome.
Simon grinned and gave Zander a thumbs up. Oh right. Getting started would be good. "Yes, we should get started now. No time like the present," he said with a wide grin and a chuckle. The Slytherin eyed his notebook and read the steps that he had written out. He pulled out an Isa runestone and then glanced at his notebook. "Okay, so we have the Isa runestone. Now we have to chant to activate galdr and use it with the spells we suggested. Do you want to chant or cast finite?"

No. Way.
When Lex heard they'd be using the spells they mentioned she was fully ready to jump ship and pretend she'd been one of those who'd called for the hexes and jinxes...but then the Professor killed it. It was sufficiently slumped on the floor, dead. No going back after that. They'd have to use finite instead? Pffffft, she'd pass on that and keep her spell for now...unless she could think of a better idea.
Well actually, she could, but she'd need a little help with it. Someone who'd proven they weren't a pansy...."Whitlock! We're partners. No questions asked. Get over here." He'd do perfectly. Of course Lex heard Botros say he'd be watching but when had that ever stopped her before? He wanted them practising spells with the use of Isa and let's be honest, if they were to stand...say....way over there. How likely would it be that he'd see them doing anything?
He did have an entire class to keep an eye on and Professors tended to give more credit and thus less attention to the older ones. This would be perfect.
Hurry up partner. This had the potential to be fun.

'With the right rune master and some spells, the barrier would freeze the eavesdropper.'
SMIIIIIIIIIIIRK.
He liked that. Oh, he liked that a LOT. Freeze the eavesdropper. Not only would the nosy bugger not be able to listen into things they shouldn't be listening into in the first place, they'd also be FROZEN in the process. PERFECT. Just very very perfect. Who said runes couldn't be cool, eh?
And sure, he was ALL up for using this spell along with the rune to see if it actually DID freeze someone in place. For that, he'd need the perfect partner. Grayson's blue eyes cast around the classroom, looking for the right victim. Ethan was a big no no because of the friend status. No. He needed someone he DIDN'T get along with. Someone he wouldn't MIND seeing frozen in place.
But before he could do more than look around, someone was calling his name, making him smirk even more. "Lex!" he called, grabbing his textbook and heading over in her direction. The textbook was needed because LOL, like he could remember the galdr off the top of his head. "'Sup, partner! Why are we standing all the way here?" Hiding something, was she?
One thing was true: freezing Alexa Cambridge was out of the question, unless he wanted to be hexed into another dimension. He could make sacrifices. Feel special, Cambridge.
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
So...he'd suggested a Jinx. That meant he'd be using Isa and Finite. Adi still wasn't sure if he wanted to have a partner. Meh. These last few classes he just felt like working alone. Anyway, he would get started on the galdr chanting.
He just needed to find his Isa runestone...Adi rummaged through his stones. Aha! Found it. Chanting time, then.

Lex threw her own book open to the page of the Isa Galdr while she waited for him to get his butt over to her. Maybe she could have cited the first line or two but everything after that was a blur. Forgive her for not wasting away her afternoons trying to learn something she'd never bother using outside of runes class. Runes were epic and all but they never really came into play that often. Go figure.
She gave a sheepish smile at his question but said in a low voice--not that she needed to with Botros so far ahem--"Reckon we don't need the Professor's eyes on us too much while we practice what we're practising." She looked to a corner of the room, the farthest corner actually then nodded toward it.
"Chant the galdr with me while we head down there. Act natural. Let's just say we might not be doing exactly what the Professor wants and we're better off--he's better off--if he doesn't see." Wouldn't want the old man getting a heart attack or something yeah? "Could involve hexes or something equally dangerous and I assume you're in, so this way."
Lex picked up her book with one hand and held the rune stone against her wand with the next as she slowly inched toward the back of the room.
"isa isa isa i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i s s s s s s (s s s s s s i i i i i i) i i i i i i i i i." Nothing to see here Professor. "isa isa isa i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i s s s s s s (s s s s s s i i i i i i) i i i i i i i i i."

Sweet Merlin, Lex really WAS up to some shifty business.
Grayson liked it. It was enticing, you know. He tried to look as innocent as possible as he glanced over at Botros, while taking an Isa runestone. "Alright," he said, looking back at the Gryffindor, "You're a sneaky one, Cambridge." What exactly was going to happen, he didn't know but he was going to do something he didn't usually do: blindly trust her.
Another glance was made towards the corner over there. One that was FAR away from Botros himself. SOMEONE wanted to remain inconspicuous, eh? SNORT. "You've picked the right person, then." Because he WAS in. Especially when hexes and other dangerous things could be involved here. BRILLIANT. "And what do we say if the Professor catches us? We need an excuse beforehand. A good enough reasoning." Because the number one reason why people got into as much trouble as they did was because they didn't have the right reasoning behind their actions.
ANYWAYS. Galdr. Right.
Grayson flipped his textbook open to the page of the Galdrs and started chanting the one for the ice rune, the runestone clutched in his hand. "Isa isa isa...... i i i i i i i i i...... i i i i i i s s s s s s......." Chant chant walk walk. ".....(s s s s s s i i i i i i)....... i i i i i i i i i......." How many times were they meant to chant this?
Reaching a spot near the corner of the room, the fifteen year old looked over at Lex. "What's the plan, then?"

"I can work with you," she said after making her way over to him. Surely he would agree to it, but maybe he had someone else in mind for a partner.
Ethan's brows were furrowed as he saw his classmates partnering up with each other. He was starting to worry, until a girl approached him. Oh hey, it's Lux! Ethan gave the girl a grin. "Aaand I can work with you too." Yup! Term's about to be over soon, and he hasn't spent much time with Lux yet...so he guessed partnering up with her won't be so bad, yeah? Make friends and such.
"I have the chant here...so I'll just stand over there, then you cast me with...uuuuuh...something? Jinx? Hex?" That's...how it's supposed to be, right? "Just...don't forget to unjinx me, okay?" Ethan smiled and showed his book to Lux and pointed at the Isa Galdr. See? He was being helpful, so do unjinx him after, yeah?
"Here it is. Isa Isa Isa...iiiiiiiiiiiiiiii...iiiiiisssss...ssssiiii... iiiiii." Was that some sort of Parseltongue? It sounded like one.
