Reading from the text book, the only thing Noel could pick up from all there was about Isa was 'REST' Holding his hand up, Noel said: "It has something to do with resting before taking action" Because that sounded so RIGHT. Rest was just really necessary. And in this cold weather, resting was everything. |
Quote:
"A challenge, an obstacle that you're meant to overcome with your wits, yes. Very good, miss Newell." Quote:
Hmmm... correct information, but wasn't delivered accurately. "We can't say a rune is cold, or a run is warm." If she meant Isa was about ice or cold, then that was a yes. Quote:
"Isa is about ice, yes, the rune is a rune, a magical essence, it's not a weather status or a thing, dear." He gave the Hufflepuff a smile. Quote:
"Perfect! Yes, we know, Isa is about ice but the other aspect, Mr. Kildare, brings is the fact that Isa is a blocking rune. It blocks." Botros paused to communicate some kind of hint with his students before he went on. Quote:
Botros clapped his hands for this enthusiastic newcomer. "Fantastic, very good answer. Everyone write down what Mr. Whitlock just said." It was very relevant to their lesson too. Quote:
And then there was Mr. Holden, whom professor Botros was seeing more and more potential in, he could be the next Odessa in his class. Yes, this could happen. "Isa can be used to convey the energy of concentration and focus, yes, that's true. Very well done, Mr. Holden." A smile for him as well. Quote:
.... Ab just looked at the Gryffindor for a moment. Then nodded, "I know we're all sick of the cold, Miss Cambridge, but this is part of why we're diving into Isa this lesson. We need to look beyond the cold and the ice, to what they represent, what message they could be trying to give." He had a very thoughtful look on his face when he finished. Quote:
Botros followed Mr. Mordaunt's hand gestures and stream of thoughts. "Patience! And persistence! Very good, Mr. Mordaunt, two points for you." Botros clapped for the creative little kid. Who knew sleep-walkers were so useful awake? Quote:
"Yes, in a way. We can use it to strengthen the cold degree, it cannot produce ice or cold, but it can definitely take it to a higher level." Quote:
This one Gryffindor always seemed to have interesting theories. Botros nodded at her words, "I like your summary, yes." She summed up what her peers had said. Quote:
.... hmm... "That could be true had you explained further why you think so." Botros was open-minded to how the kids connected with the studied runes. It didn't always have to be from the textbook. Quote:
Botros smiled and gave Marco a nod of approval, "It can, it depends on our intention and the way we use the Isa rune, yes." Quote:
Quote:
Botros eyes went from the Ravenclaw Prefect to the other Mordaunt kid in his class, they went back and forth between them, trying to see where the joke was. He didn't see no joke, nope. "Yes. Isa a ice rune." He repeated suspiciously. Quote:
Yes, yes, another correct answer. He nodded at the Slytherin. Quote:
Aha! Botros clapped his hands once and then gestured at Odessa, a twinkle in his eyes, "Excellent, yes. As well as patience, like Mr. Mordaunt mentioned, we have anger management." He was going to miss those kids and their insightful comments. Quote:
Quote:
The two Hufflepuff received a hesitant nod from the professor. "Yes, but we'd like a more detailed explanation." He smiled at them both. Quote:
Another tiny applause for another creative answer. Botros was proud of this bunch of students, "Excellent answer, yes. Great job."ooc : -please give one spell in your answer, be creative! - class will continue in 24 hrs max. - any questions you may VM/PM me. |
Lucy raised her wand and she said : " Professor I think that this Rune could enhance the effect of the spell:" Protego". The wizard who uses this spell is protected by a shield that defends him by the attack of his enemies but meanwhile the wizard has the time to think about the next incantation and he can increase his concentration.. If the wizard hasn' t the willpower or he is not focused on the sign the shield can be broken by another spell" |
Tag listened to Botros' words and repeated the question over in his head a couple of times until he really got a good clear understanding on what he was trying to ask his students. It took Tag some time to try and think of a good spell he felt like most people wouldn't say. A little out there, but it would be an answer nonetheless, but first... "Professor are you asking for any type of spell that can work alongside with Isa. Like protective spells, stop things yeah? Is that what your question was trying to get at?" Better to ask than to be sorry, right? Either way though, Tag felt like he got a basic understanding of the question and if he didn't, at least he tried. "How about Salvio Hexia? It's like a sort of protective barrier that one can use to stop from getting hexed. Like you said with Isa, it means to create a sort of obstacle or unwanted energy. Salvio Hexia seems to be something like that, I mean, that it connects with what Isa means." There. That was Tag's answer. Err, sort of. Still a hint of confusion in Tag's answer but it was there no matter what. |
SPOILER!!: Professor Ab Botros! And Simon had earned a smile from Botros which made him feel more confident and a little bit warmer too. Alright. He continued to listen to his classmates responses until Botros spoke up again. Hmm... What spells could they use with Isa? Isa meant protection and also meant the halting of unwanted forces (as the textbook put it, right?). So by that logic, it seemed like it would be a good idea to pair Isa with any defensive charm. He raised his hand in the air and waited to be called on. Once he was called on, he began speaking. "As with Salvio Hexia, you could pair Isa with Cave Inimicum. The spell itself is used to strengthen a wall or enclosure from enemies. Its to protect yourself and your company. Since Isa can mean protection against unwanted forces then I think the two could work together nicely, producing an even stronger barrier to protect yourself," explained Simon. It sort of made sense to him. |
Jasmine furiously took notes as her classmates gave their answers. When Professor Botros tied everything together, she took in all of the information. And then a question. Oh this was hard. Jasmine took a shot at answering, although she thought that her answer might be a bit random. Jasmine raised her hand with a bit of uncertainty. "Could Isa be used to enhance a Cheering Charm? Of course it wouldn't solve anyone's problems, but it could give them a brief respite from unpleasant feelings. It might give a person time to reflect on the cause of their unhappiness and maybe find a way to deal with it." Feeling that she'd gone out on a limb, Jasmine waited to see what the other students had to say. |
Smiling weakly at Professor Botros, Lux note of what he told her. She was still struggling with Ancient Runes, but she liked to think she was slowly improving as time went. This would never be one of her strongest subjects, however. Not being able to think of anything to answer the next question, she did have to agree with Jasmine's point about the Cheering Charm. That was her favourite spell. |
Zander looked over at Simon and gave him a small smile. It looked like he was slowing making his way up to one of Botros' favorites. Eh, the third year deserved it. Simon worked really hard, way harder than Zander did... At least in Ancient Runes class anyways... Zander didn't really care for the subject. It was too dry for his taste. Even worse than Arithmancy possibly. Anyways, as for the question? He had no clue. He carefully listened to the other answers and then thought about his own for a moment before raising his hand. "Could it be used with a levitation charm?" The guy had said that Isa was used for concentration and will and stuff, right? "Because a levitation charm takes lots of concentration and patience." Y'know what else took patience? Staying awake in this class.. |
Something Professor Botros said repeated in Adi's head. ' It can halt unwanted dynamic forces as an act of self-defense.' That gave him an uncertain idea. He raised his hand. "Could it be used with Impedimenta? It could provide an extra way to slow down obstacles or any threat.'' That's how the Hufflepuff figured it out in his head, anyway. |
Could he take a moment to bask in the glory that came from Botros saying that people should write down his answer? He was going to do so anyways. A small smirk spread across the boy's face and he gave the man a small nod in return. What made it even better was that both Ethan and Simon seemed to agree with him. Or, that was what he was going to take from that smirk and that comment. Uh huh. Smart. He was SMART. Question. And there was one answer in particular that peeked his interest. Protego. The Shield Charm. As mentioned by a Gryffindor (Lucy) over there. And Isa was used to block any unwanted forces. What better spell was there? Exactly. Smart person, whoever you are. But he needed to go for a different answer sooooo Grayson sat back and went into deep thought, one hand holding onto his quill that he was tapping lightly against the palm of his hand. Spell. Spell. .................. Oh? "Sir?" he asked, ceasing the quill tapping and raising his hand in the air, "What about the Imperturbable Charm? See, it makes things, like doors or whatever, impenetrable. People can't eavesdrop or come near or get past the object, in a way. Blockage from unwanted forces.." Uh huh. That was his logic to all of this. |
Kace was about to raise his hand but then they were moving on. He dazed yet again. He had a problem and needed to stop doing that. He saw the information about the ice rune Isa but apparently there was more to that. He copied it down in his notebook. He got the information down. Now onto the rune. What could it be used with? He looked into his notebook. He saw it had to deal with concentration and stillness. He knew one charm that might work with it. He raised his hand and said, "Professor could the rune Isa be used with Petrificus totalus? I think it might work well because it stills the victim for a long time.." He tried at least right? He saw the logic with this one. |
What spells could Isa be used to enhance, and in what ways? There were many different aspects of the rune to be considered- blockage, patience, concentration, suppressing the emotions. It could be used with any number of spells. Did it only work to enhance spells, or could it enhance other things, like potions? Rather than just list another spell that it might work with, Penelope decided to ask her question. "Professor, you said that runes can be used to enhance spells, but can they also be used to enhance potions? We learned how to brew this potion in potions class that could be used to manipulate people by making them feel guilty. The potion is not as effective if the person's will is strong. Could Isa be used with this potion to suppress or block the emotions, other than guilt, of a strong willed person to make the potion more effective on them?" That would be interesting to experiment with if Isa could be used with the potion. Maybe she could get extra credit if she tried it. Even if she could not get extra credit, it would still be interesting to try, with supervision, of course. |
Leah had distinctly heard Professor Botros saying to write down someone's answer. Obviously she had not caught what he said, so she let that slip and instead listened to what the professor said. Ugh, here came the spells topic again. She knew this was coming, but she was bad at spells. The Hufflepuff took out her notebook and started jotting down spells people were mentioning. At least it looked like she was doing something. |
Marigold was trying her veeery hardest to think and actually come up with an answer to the question, but her brain had gone into panic mode. She didn't know the answer to this - she barely even understood what Isa was - and she was taking her OWL on this next year Merlin help her. She stayed quiet, almost uncharacteristically so, and jotted down notes. |
Impedimenta was the first charm that came to Sophie's mind. She raised her hand prepared to suggest it, when Adi beat her to it She frowned and lowered her hand as her classmates continued to suggest more and more charms. Most of her other ideas were already taken by now, so Sophie had just about given up on coming up with something new, until finally a charm popped into her mind. "What about the Containment Charm?" she asked, raising her hand. "It's used to contain something in an object, and I've heard it's useful in getting away from an attacker." |
Everyone in the class was getting so in depth with their answers, yet Caleb kept circling back to the ice thing. That was all his brain seemed to focus on - it was probably the cold. Yeah, he'd blame the cold. He raised his hand. "Well, if you wanted some really cold water - cause of the water and all - you could use Aguamenti with it," he said. Yeah, he knew it was simple, but everyone always overlooked the simple answers! SOMEONE had to say it! |
Despite the Professor's light reprimand she found it hard thinking of Isa as anything more than the cold that it was and the cold it was capable of bringing on them. Still, she gave a small nod. Thinking beyond the cold, she could TRY. Would be easier if this classroom wasn't so flipping cold. How was he handling this weather? Old bones couldn't have agreed with it. Her own grandfather wasn't quite as old but he'd always hated the colder months. Eyes for you Botros. Concerned ones....kinda. More so intrigued actually. "Considering it's meant for putting obstacles in the way of unwanted forces I'd have to guess something like the protego charm? That'd give it an extra kick for keeping things away, right?" When would they learn about a rune that helped with explosions? Lex was keen to learn something along those lines, if only to give her more to be in awe of when she went to the dueling arena these days. This was telling of the fact she needed to teach herself another curse soon. |
Hmmm. What spell could be used Isa and hadn't been said already? Layla was still thinking along the lines of cold and ice, which nobody else seemed to be doing. But what kind of spell would that be? Or maybe she needed to focus on the opposite........... "Ventus? Since it's basically the opposite of coldness and cold air is definitely unwelcome around here these days......." Maybe it could even make the spell strong enough to get rid of the blizzard outside? Yeah okay, that was wishful thinking, but this cold was driving her crazy. |
He got a MINI applause from the professor, and Noel was gloating! Now he knew how students who liked studying felt all the time. Wow. It was a revelation. Noel tried to think of a spell, but he really could not think of any. Sniffling and wiping his nose, the thirteen year old looked through his book. Raising his hand, the boy wondered/stated: "Could a napping spell have something to do with this ruin? Or or hibernation spell?" Yeah, cause some animals went into hibernation in winter, rightt? So maybe everyone at the castle should do, and wake up when it was ALL OVER. "Sleeping equals resting, right?" he was legit asking. |
Quote:
He only half-listened to the information about Isa, given it was really just refreshing things he knew already, And... now to name a spell. Well... He put his hand up. "What about disillusionment charms? Isa is good for stealth and illusion too, when it lies in opposition to other runes." Not merkstave exactly, given it couldn't be reversed... And... "If you had it engraved on your wand, professor, wouldn't it technically help you with casting any spell to some degree? Not necessarily the efficacy of the spell but more like... your focus and clarity in a way because it might help calm you if you tend to get nervous or worked up about not getting your spells right on the first go, and help you be patient with yourself as well." Which... lead to another sort of abstract thought of sorts. Relating to wands... and the fact that they were.... sort Isa shaped. West mused on this a bit but kept his thoughts on that matter to himself. |
Angel decided that she was going to write down some notes because she didn't want to forget something but now she had to figure out what spells did the runes. "Maybe you could use a freezing charm with the runes?" Angel wasn't very sure though. |
Two points? Two points for what? Is it…some sort of grade? Ethan blinked at the professor who even gave him an applause, then gave him a grin and a nod as he moved on to the next student. At least, he was pleased with his theory. Did that somehow make up for the incident that happened between him and the Runes Master? Ethan had to squirm juuuust a bit every time he remembers that he sleep-walked into the old man’s office. Shame. Shaaaaaame. Anyway, another question! The fair-haired boy listened to the others first, noting that they were all giving defensive and protective spells left and right. How about…they use it as an offense? Hand up. “Can it be used as a…” was there any good word for it? “…curse of some sort? To stop the doer from progressing with his evil plan? Like how the ancient Egyptians protected their dead from being disturbed?” Who was that pharaoh again? Tutangkhamensomething? Yeah, yeah. That dude. "I reckon we can use the Isa rune for offence and defense, so..." Right? |
Isa. Ice. Isa. Ice. Toby's mind was long gone into the realms of distraction. He'd picked up on the fact that they were learning more about Isa, and had even started writing things down, but before long his brain just went waaaaaaaaaaaaay off track. By this point, he'd managed to get a catchy song stuck in his head and was bobbing his head and tapping his fingers and feet along to it. It was like everyone else's voices were totally tuned out, and Toby only heard the song. Dun dun dun du-du-dun-dun. Dun dun dun dun du-du-dun-dun. Isa, Isa, baby. And of course, that itself morphed into... UNDER PRESSURE... wait, hang on. It was at that moment that Toby suddenly tuned back in, aware that those around him were supplying answers. Oh, uhhh... oh dear. Why, whyyyyyyy did this have to happen here, in the class Toby LOVED. "Uhhhh..." He listened to a few of the answers others gave and, deciding to just go for it with his best guess, raised his hand and said, "Colloportus?" And left it at that to be safe. |
Bevelry's first thoughts to the question was the Shield Charm and Glisseo. The former which had already been said and the latter being an obvious one. A good one, but too obvious. But she had another spell in mind. The Slytherin raised her hand. "How about the Repelling Charm? Maybe the Isa rune can enhance the charm by repelling much more than small objects, which could be considered an act of self-defense." Or self indulgence. Like trying to keep large things from leaving; Exhibit A: an Antipodean Opaleye dragon. |
Interesting question, was it not ? Except Cassia couldn't think of anything that hasn't been mentioned. So she just remained silent it's not like she would want to look stupid repeating an answer. Meanwhile she could just write down some note. Except nothing yet has been said that was worth writing down. She'd just ready her notebook and her quill. In case of the mention of anything important. She wasn't all that great at Runes so anything would be appreciated. Those NEWTs were close now. This might be one of the questions. Who knew?! Maybe not but this question surely led to another that could probably be extremely important. |
