As usual Transfiguration is one of the first lesson for the day. It was bright and early in the morning, when the air was still quite crisp and cool and dew was still on the grass. The classroom door is wide open and as usual the classroom is spotless and there is the slight smell of a coconut aroma in the air. The desks and chairs are in perfect order and there might even be a slight gleam to them. Yep immaculate. There was a difference though, there were a few plants in the room, actually more than a few in the corners and the professor wasn't in her usual office looking attire. There is also a large pile of wood to the front corner as while as a pile of vines next to it.
You know the routine, come in and take your place at a seat. New comers, if you don't know what to do look and learn.

Ah well. Adi had been along the right track in his answer. He wrote the correct answers in his book along with the incantations and wand movement. Thank goodness it was no complicated movements.
Now, he was watching Professor Bellaire demonstrate. Darn! These spells were cool! He could hardly wait to get started! So he hurriedly got up from his seat to go collect the wood and vine.

Ian was pleased he'd at least gotten the answer partially correct and scribbled his notes as the remainder of the information was provided. He was glad that the work they would be doing was fairly simple and he needn't learn intricate wand maneuvers in order to transfigure the wood and vines.
He smiled as he watched her make the small boat. It was quite tiny and might fit one of the garden gnomes at his mentor's home. It was cute really (even though cute may not have been the word chosen by a twelve year old boy). When she made the vine into a rope, he thought to himself what a handy spell.
Having heard her instructions, he went up to the front and secured a piece of wood and a vine in order to participate in the classroom instruction.

So they really were transfiguring wood into a boat. Awesome. That meant...
Scribble... scribble... scribble...
Notes were handy, yeah? Maybe they'd have to wade through a rainforest-like area for this NEWT. And, as great as tropical conditions sounded, Alec didn't really want to be there and get stuck on what to do next. Rainforests, you know, which meant that there would be an abundance of plants. The boy wasn't that great at dealing with those in the first place.
Once that was done, the boy glanced up at the Professor and the demonstration going on. Was he glad that the wand movement was so simple? Yeah. What worried him, though, was the fact that... well... the spells seemed a little hard to pronounce. Apart from vinea. That seemed simple enough, just like the demonstration.
And the boat? The boat was cool.
When the instructions were given, Alec headed up to the front of the classroom and collected up a piece of wood and a piece of vine before heading back to his seat again. The items were set down on his desk and the boy sat down, his eyes on the piece of wood. A boat. He was going to end up having a boat perched on his desk or on the floor, if this worked. That... was something to tell his Dad.

Tessa nodded as she listened to the Professor. She had been right! Not too surprising there, if she did say so herself. Excellent way to start the semester... not to mention, this was one of her favorite subjects. She wrote down a few notes to help her remember, and then walked up to take a piece of rope and wood. She was excited to try the new spells. Besides, practicing was better than note taking any day.
*Alright that was very cool. Rom could make a boat out of a bit of tree? He had to try this one. Walking up with the other students he took the branch and vine then went back over to his seat waiting for instructions. Even though the professor had already done the spell they did not say that they should start practicing yet.*

Alex had been scribbling notes throughout the lesson. After Professor Bellaire finished her explanation of the spells, Alex put down her quill. So thy would be transfiguring wood into boats and ropes into vines. Hopefully the spells would not be too difficult to carry out since they did not require complicated wand movements. She went forward with her other classmates to get her piece of wood and vine. Returning to her seat, she waited for further instructions from the Professor.

Tobias wrote down what the Professor was telling them as she was saying it, underlining 'vines into ropes' and 'wood into boats'. He set his quill down again and looked up just in time for the demonstration, having to lean to the side and crane his neck a bit so he could see around a couple of students.
RIGHT. GOOD DEAL.
When they were told to, the third year got up out of his seat to grab some wood and vine, as quick as he could before the mad rush began. He made it back into seat again and set the stuff on his desk, before quickly adding some writing to his notes for clarity.

The Professor sure made that look easy Blair thought. She quickly jotted down a few notes.
SPOILER!!: Blair's Parchment
Lignum Navicula: Fallen tree trunks/wood, etc -> Small boats.
Vinea Funiculus: Vines -> Ropes.
Wand movement: Simple point and tap.
Following the Professor's instructions Blair made her way to the front of the classroom and collected both her wood and vine. She then headed back to her seat and got out her wand, waiting for the next instructions.

Adi figured he'd work on Transfiguring the vine first. ''Vinea Funiculus...Vinea Funiculus...Vinea Funiculus...Vinea Funiculus...Vinea Funiculus...'' he practiced without his wand. ''Vinea Funiculus...Vinea Funiculus...Vinea Funiculus...'' The point part was pretty much easy so he wasted no more time. He placed the vine in front of him.
"Vinea Funiculus!'' Adi said clearly while pointing his wand on the vine. The vine remained a vine. ''Vinea Funiculus!'' He repeated the wand movement. Still a vine. ''Vinea Funiculus!'' Nothing. Adi made a face at the vine. This was why Transfiguration was one of the most frustrating subjects for him.

Sander breathed a sigh of relief when the Professor confirmed that his answer was correct. He quickly picked up his quill and wrote down the meanings of the spell into his journal.
Text Cut: Sander's journal
Meanings of Spell
Lignum Navicula transfigures fallen tree trunks, wood etc into small boats.
Vinea funiculus transfigures vines into ropes.
Wand movement:
Point at vines
Tap at wood
Then he put down his quill and leaned forward as the Professor demonstrated how the spell would work on the wood, as well as, the vines. It looked simple enough, but Sander knew that looks could be deceiving.
When given the instructions to go forward to pick up their lesson materials, Sander joined the rest of the students, waited patiently before bending down and picking up a piece of wood and a strand of vine before returning to his desk.
Then he waited patiently for the Professor's next instructions.

Oh good, no fancy wand movement. That would make life a LITTLE easier for him. He stood up and walked over to the vines and wood, grabbing one of each and bringing them back to his desk. He sat down and waited patiently for the professor to continue instructions.

Whaaaaat!?
The disillusionment charm? How boring was that!? Rhodes would have MUCH preferred if they were going to do some kind of transfiguration spell that somehow made them camouflage, instead of turning vines into ropes and wood into boats. Although it did sound cool when the words sort of rhymed like that, she thought they were going to learn how to survive in the jungle. Not somehow escape it.
Oh well. She jotted down the spells and how the spells worked in her notebook, and taking out her wand from her pocket, she set it right down onto her desk before glancing around the room. Someone? Anyone? Were they going to get her supplies for her? Apparently not.
She made sure her wand wasn't going to roll from off her desk, and with a DEEP sigh, she stood up and went to collect her own things. Splinters.. she better not get one. Hmph. She sat back down and set the piece of wood and vine onto her desk before propping her head up with her hand and making little tapping motions on the wood with her finger. Practice first, right?
Tap, tap, tap.
Was the room going to be big enough to hold all those boats!? That would be fun to see.

It made her quite happy to know that at least some students had done some reading over the holiday and hadn't come back blank slates. It certainly made her job easier...in some respect.
"Right on the mark students. Lignum Navicula transfigures fallen tree trunks, wood etc into small boats and vinea funiculus transfigures vines into ropes." Exciting wasn't it?
Yes. Why, yes, actually it was. Cutty thought so. It was his favourite subject for a number of reasons, one of which would've been Professor Bellaire herself. She was a big, comely pile of DON'T-MESS-AROUND. He once had seen her unmagic almost an entire classtime's worth of work in front of a student and made them do it all again. It was probably this incident which sealed the deal as to how he felt about her teaching.
Miss Hyde, eh? So that was beard-o girl's name. And it was apparently a potion what did this. He was going to have to hunt her down. Oh, yes he was.
Cutty watched delighted as Bellaire took a piece of wood and tapped it with her wand uttering the spell's incantation. It was beautiful magic, eager to get there before the bum rush he non-chalantly darted and cut in front of others taking up a vine and wood chunk, bringing it back to his desk where he proceeded to stare intensely at it, trying to already picture it as a ship.
Ooh, look at Adi getting his spells going. Heeeey! Work it, Rehman! So what if he hadn't gotten anything...yet. He'd get there.
~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.
Adi caught Cutty's eyes and grinned. He remembered the two had first spoken in a Transfiguartion lesson last term. He looked back at the stubborn vine. He was ready to take another shot at it.
"Vinea Funiculus!'' he said with a point of his wand. Let's go for a rope here! Adi waited expectedly for something to happen but he was once again disappointed. ''Vinea Funiculus!'' Hey! Did a tiny end of the vine look pale yellow? Hmmm. What he transfiguring a yellow rope here? ''Vinea Funiculus!'' The pale yellow end of the vine began thickening. Finally something was happening! But it seemed that was all that would happen for now because the vine had abruptly cease its transformation.
Ascanius scribbled down the name of the spell- Lignum Navicula. It didn't sound too difficult, yeah? All he had to do was just point and tap the wood or the vine and it made it into a small boat or rope respectively. Everything was pretty straight forward. As well as what they would be doing today.
So without saying anything, he stood up and went to the front of the classroom as he was instructed and collected both a piece of wood and vine for practice. Just not yet, yeah?
He knew how PARTICULAR Bellaire was about doing things before she had instructed.
Robin groaned - she was nowhere near right! She quickly wrote down the correct definitions and put a star next to it with a reminder to study Latin more. She watched as the Professor took a piece of wood out of the pile and tapped it while saying the spell.
Oh gosh!! it really did turn into a boat! She hadn't really seen a real spell been cast until this class and she was stunned. Magic would never cease to amaze her. So not only were they going to learn how to turn the wood into boats, but change the size of the wood too? This was awesome.
She rushed up to the supplies and picked a piece of wood and a vine, scurrying back quickly. She bounced in her seat, hardly waiting to actually try her first spell.
NARGLES! |Tree Hugger | Wears a Penguin Suit & Tie | Snape on a Stick
Ian watched the others and then back at the words on the board before returning his gaze to the items before him. He thought he'd try the wood to boat one first as it was a tap with the incantation. It seemed simple enough, that is until he began to try and speak the words.
Leeg-NOOM NAV-ee-cull -ah My, the words were a bit more of a mouthful than he'd expected. He tried again, this time with more feeling. Leeg-Noom NAV-ee cuull- AH He then tapped the wood and nothing happened. Just a piece of wood still. Hmmm, he thought to himself. Am I saying the words correctly? He tried a few more times with the same effect. He looked around to see what others were doing, hoping to catch some tips.
Her thoughts were around that area. Boats and vines. Bev gave herself a mental pat on the back for thinking it. She went up to get a piece of wood and a vine. When she got back she debated on whether setting them on her desk or on the floor.
A boat on a desk. Yeah, that didn't sound any kinds of proper. But since they weren't transfiguring it yet, she set both items side to side on her desk.

So he was partially right in a way. Well mostly kinda right. Maybe transfiguration wasn't so bad after all. He listened to what else Professor Bellaire had to say. He took notes as she spoke as well.
SPOILER!!: Notes
Lignum Navicula- transfigures tree trunks and wood into boats (the bigger the piece of wood the bigger the boat)
Spell movement: Tap on wood
vinea funiculus- Transfigures vines into rope (longer vines longer ropes)
Spell movement: point
He watched Bellaire demonstrate the spells. Sweet That was pretty cool. He nodded and went up to the front of the room to collect the vine and wood. He headed back to his seat and sat down. He could not wait to do this, too.

Theo smiled his winning smile at Professor Bellaire. No one else really got the same smiles as she got. They were special. AND he had gotten the question right - RESULT!
Oh, good, the wand movement wasn't too difficult. Theo always struggled with those. SMALL BOATS? Now THAT was a handy spell. He watched her demonstrate in adoration. Dang, she really knew how to work that wand of hers. Once she was finished, he got up and strutted to the front of the classroom to retrieve his piece of wood and vine, then went back to his seat. He pulled out his wand and placed it on the desk in front of him VERY neatly next to his wood and vine.
Were they supposed to start now?

Bri wrote down what each spell did, and then the wand movements. Sounded simple enough, the young girl thought. Then she watched as the professor did the spells in front of them. Her eyes widened in shock, sure she maybe in a magical castle, but it was all still new to the 1st year muggleborn.
She grew more excited when she got up to grab a piece of wood and vine. She was about to do her first piece of magic! She wasn't sure if they should start doing the spells when she went back to her seat. So she just pulled out her wand and practice the wand movements while saying the spells in her head

Once Sophia saw that everyone had gotten a log and vine she walked around the class once just to see that everything was in order.
"Right everyone get started on transfiguring your wood and wines, I'll be back shortly to check on your progress." She moved to the door and stopped to look back at them..*warning looks all around*.
She then disappeared through the door. Needed to make sure that Bentley was okay. She had the extendible ears which were disillusioned but she thought she heard some stirring.

Raft, boat... whatever! It was still something that would keep them afloat. She watched as the professor demonstrated and it seemed simple enough even the first year and puffrs should be able to manage that much.
Hannah walked to the front and picked up her a piece of wood and a vine as instructed. She actually liked participating in Transfiguration. She walked back to her desk and awaited more instructions.

Ian watched as the professor moved to the door and gave instructions. She was leaving? Seemed like a bold move to leave a bunch of students to their own devices when there was rope and wood Ian shrugged and looked at his items and then saw that Gryffie boy across the classroom. He pondered how far this piece of wood would travel if aimed properly. Of course they were magic-users so they could make items travel a bit farther than humanly possible. Ian smirked a little to himself at the image of Gryffie boy's noggin jerking a bit from a sharp jar with a piece of wood.
He worked a bit more on his wording in an attempt to get his wood to change shape.
