When not in use for games, the pitch is open to students and staff alike. Here is the place to practice your Quidditch skills before attending team tryouts or to simply take a joy ride. No Quidditch equipment is available for use. Anyone who wishes to use any Quidditch equipment must get permission from Professor Tyner before borrowing it from the broomshed. Failure to abide by this simple and practical safety rule will result in loss of House points. Those who repeatedly break this rule will receive detention and/or lose privileges to be on the practice pitch.
Once the Quidditch season officially begins, team Captains can contact Professor Tyner to reserve the field for practices and non-team members can watch practices occur. When practices aren't in session, the pitch is open for all students and staff.

But unfortunately, the only thing it was any good for was flying. Kicking a leg over her prized possession, the seventh year mounted it quickly and was up in the air with Cat in no time. "I... don't want to get my hopes up." Although her insides wanted that cup SO BADLY, she tried to maintain an indifferent front. "It'd be really nice. To get it. You guys put up a fair amount of competition, though."
Easing into a barrel roll, she grinned at her friend all upside down-like. "Wanna race?"
"So no offense to our pogo sticks or anything," Cat started as soon as Alice was in the air with her, "But I think this is way more fun." Even flying through Diagon Alley would be more fun than pogoing down the street. She flew in a circle around Alice and nodded, "Yeah, probably for the best, but you have a great team. It's always possible. Hufflepuff has to lose eventually."
Hopefully eventually would be sooner rather than later.
Cat returned the grin and nodded, "Of course I do. I always want an excuse to fly as fast as I can." But Alice needed to be right side up first. "Also, you look like a sloth, it's cute."

The Baby Chaser was in the air already, and Mo turned on his broom to watch her fly. She was fine and most certainly didn't need any direction from him, so he just let her show off for now. For a second year, Sophie was very good, and he kind of hoped she'd be an encouragement to the newer players who were just learning the ropes.
"Looking good, Soph. New broom? Maybe you can spin down low and encourage some of the new flyers today?"
And there was Lily, also easily taking to the air and heading for the hoops. Lily was a nice surprise last term, out performing all of Mo's expectation and solidly earning a spot on the team. He really regretted losing her after this term, but... he had her now. Hopefully she'd show that grit and timing during her tryout.
"Lily," Mo waved at her, gesturing for her to chase Sophie. "Tag! See if you can catch Sophie!"
"You know it. Stopped by Quality Quidditch Supplies first thing this summer," Sophie called to Mo as she neared, slowing down to talk to him. "Couldn't resist, y'know? I actually tried to get Max to give me his old one for good luck, but he wouldn't budge. Had some sentimental value or something, I guess. He's a cheeseball." She liked the way her new one flew so far, though, and started another lap around the pitch to get the hang of it a bit more so she WOULD be able to encourage some of the new flyers with credibility, once some showed up.
...Until she overheard Mo distinctly tell Lily to catch her, and she was plagued with a sudden fear over not being one with her broom just yet, but energized by the confidence that she was faster than anyone currently on the pitch.
Challenge to elude Lily accepted.
...But she was still a little scared of being caught. Her pride couldn't suffer that kind of blow in front of Mo - she had a (mostly fictional) reputation to protect and couldn't stand to let him down. "Nooo go chase Lana! Pick on someone your own size!" Sophie leaned forward on her broomstick and zoomed toward the complete opposite end of the pitch from Lily, fully intending to stay that far away from her at all times like a total scaredy cat.
"Mel," Mo recognized the girl from Diagon Alley, and he made a point of landing his broom right in front of her so she couldn't escape. She didn't look happy to be there, but maybe that was nerves. Mo remembered how mortified he'd been trying out for Milton, especially based on his rather abysmal performance on the broom during Flying lessons.
"Have you played before? Do you have a broom? I'd like to fly with you."
Melek was so closed to escaping when the guy from Diagon Alley stopped right in front of her. A frown came and she tried to spy any exits that were open. "No, I havent... and no I dont." Mel was desperately trying to get out of this place. She hadnt even learn how to fly good, to be honest. Her parents didnt like her being outside so they thought it was nonsense to teach her. They taught her how to fly but it was only one time and once she crashed, that was it, no more flying for her... not by her choice though... "I dont like sports and I am only here because she dragged me here, Mo..." Melek looked at him.

"The shopkeepers would love us even more than they already do. We're simply going to be the most treasured patrons of all Diagon Alley." Amazing, they would be praised and loved. Pft, as if they weren't already.
Cat shrugged that off. It didn't really matter right now since try-outs hadn't started just yet. Very soon, yeah, but not just yet. "I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I'd say we make a wager, but you'll pick your own team and that would just be no fun." Cat swooped underneath Alice and around her again, like a shark circling her prey.
Oh good, not one of those completely scared first years that clam up when addressed by a faculty member. Tiara was a firm believer in speaking your mind when spoken too, none of that wishy-washy mumbling bit. She liked this girl already.
Oh, she must be a muggleborn. And an adventurous one at that, if she had managed to find her way down here on her first day at Hogwarts. "Oh, my dear, there are plenty of people here that would be more than willing to help you."
She turned around and craned her neck to locate Ella and Tobias. Whistling loudly to get their attention, she also decided to call out their names. "ELLA! TOBIAS!" she yelled, making motions for them to land and come over to her.
Back to the first year. "I am Professor Tyner, Quidditch Official at Hogwarts," she said, smiling warmly. "And what is your name, my dear?"
Bri smiled down at Professor Tyner, she seemed very nice. Bri grew excited when she realized that the teacher was calling the other Hufflepuffs over, maybe she will get to start learning how to fly real soon. The young girl hoped she didn't make too much of a fool of herself.
She started to imagine what she would look like flying around in the air, when she realized the teacher was introducing herself, and asking her a question. Bri blushed slightly, " My name is Bri Granger." The first year replied, brushing a loose strand of hair behind her ear.

Tobias was by no means heavy, but he knew from his days at his old school that weight didn't have much to do with how quickly gravity worked. With his broom now sloping downwards, he accelerated into a fast, but not steep, dive. The plan was that he'd get to the other side of the long stretch having built up a lot of speed, which he could then use during the turn and the opposite length. It was only a theory he'd been thinking of while at home, so he had no idea if it would really work.
The third year glanced down to check where Ella was, to make sure they weren't likely to collide when he reached her level again, but he was far enough to one side that it wouldn't happen. Thing was, now he had the outside lane, so was relying on the build up of speed to work.
Without his brain telling his mouth that it was okay, Tobias suddenly let out a howl as he got closer and closer to the other end of the pitch.
"Awooooooooooooo!"
Because he was a werewolf now. And he was booming on with his bad self. Ehehe.
What on earth was that sound?
The blonde raised her eyebrows but continued to dart towards the turn, knowing Tobias was approaching fast. She could sense the change in the air around her before she saw him and was trying to get a feel for just how close he was when he sped right past her.
Well.
Ella was laughing as she eased in to the turn, shifting her weight a bit to take it more smoothly. The inside advantage was great and all but the turn was a bit sharper than she'd like. She didn't dare say anything until she was on the straightaway once more but she had questions. Lots.
"I didn't know wolves could fly!"
Yes, little wolf, what on earth?
She was just about to close the gap again, having leaned forward and narrowed in on her opponent, but that was until she heard a loud whistle and someone shouting their names.

They weren't, like, in trouble or something, right? Ella hesitated for only a moment before calling ahead to her badger little!bro, "Looks like we're being summoned, Tobes!" Which was a shame, really, they were nearly done. "...Last one to the ground is a flimsy flobberworm!"
After leaving the rather pathetic sign up on the noticeboard in the common room, Mo headed down to the pitch immediately. He really hoped he wasn't going to be running laps on his own today... although it certainly wouldn't do him any harm to practice.
He hopped onto his broom and took to the air, staying close to the gate to watch for any other Ravenclaws to appear on the horizon. Still good practice, though, since he worked on hair pin turns as he made tight figure-eights in the air. Come on, Eagles.
Hope made her way down to the practice pitch, a borrowed broom in her hand. She had never flown, Mo knew this. She was hesitant shifting from foot to foot chewing on her lip. She stood there awkwardly hoping someone would step in and at least tell her how to hover. It should be easy from there, right? Just get her off the ground for the first time and she should be ready to go, in theory anyway.

After seeing the announcement in the common room, Jun made his way to the practice pitch. Broom in hand, he knew he desperately needed some practice before tryouts started. Walking onto the pitch, he greeted his fellow house mates and met up with the captain. Sure he had played a bit over the summer but it wasn't really anything competitive.
"Hey Mo," he gave him a nod. The tie-dye boy was ready. Nervous, but ready.

Caterina fluttered her eyelashes in Alice's direction, "Of course we are. We always will be." Because they would always be bossy and cute, obviously. "We'll see." Because right now, they had a race to be doing.
"I will." Cat nudged her braided hair off of her shoulder and tucked it away so that it wouldn't fly up and hit her in the face. "On three." She was giving Alice wary looks too. No head starts, Fischer.
"One.... two.... three." At three, Cat shot off, knowing that Alice was going to be right there with her.

And she began her dive.
Tobias' plan seemed to have worked just as well as he'd hoped. The younger Hufflepuff reached the bend just as he needed to level out, meaning that he also had an opportunity to practice multi-tasking his flying skills. He looped around outside Ella and found himself juuuust edging out in front, and took a moment to beam over at the head girl.
"This wolf can!" he said enthusiastically. And it wasn't even banter anymore; Tobias was just kind of overenthusiastic about being in the air again and that always seemed to make him giddy and joke about... being an animal. You know how it is.
It was at that point that he heard the whistle, and looked up instinctively; a reflex he'd developed from playing Quidditch so much. It wasn't until he heard their names being called, and then Ella calling to him, that he pulled up and slowed right down. There was still a little ways to go in the race, but Tobias was totally fine with cutting it short.
He was ABOUT to go on and cut across the pitch to get to Tyner, but then a certain ELLA called for another RACE. The Hufflepuff blinked in surprise for a second before grinning.
"I ain't no flobberworm!" he called out, and headed straight into al dive immediately after Ella did.
He'd never really had to do proper dives before, at least not like seekers had to, but there have been many times Tobias had dived for the quaffle before it fell too far, so the Hufflepuff could hold his own. There was no denying, however, that Ella had the experience, so Toby figured the likelihood was high that she'd reach the ground first, but he still tried his best.
As soon as he reached ground level, instead of dismounting and then using his legs for walking, Tobias decided to save time and fly over towards Professor Tyner's window (though at jogging kind of speed, nothing like the speeds they'd reached up in the air). He let his feet skim the grass for a moments before hopping off his broom and jogging the last few paces, glancing around to make sure Ella was nearby.
"You called for us, Professor?" Toby said, looking back at the Quidditch official and appearing thoroughly windswept and exhillerated. He also saw the student she'd apparently been talking to, and flashed her a grin and a friendly wave.

Seeing Mo wave, Lily gave a wave back. She also smirked, seeing Mo's reaction to Mel being at the pitch. Oh and Hope got a wave too! Heh, Flobberworm.
She should have chose a better insult because now all she wanted was gumy worms. Major problem, that was. She couldn't get those until she was back at the dorm and from the look of things, she wouldn't be going there anytime soon. Tough life.
Anyway, racing was still happening.
There was something about diving towards the ground like this that made Ella smile. Not that she had a death wish or anything , she wasn't that sort of badger she didn't, she just had confidence in herself and her abilities on a broom. Confidence which she seemed to lack in all other areas of her life. It was nice, feeling like she was actually good at something for once, even if flying wasn't everyone's idea of an amazing life skill.
The blonde pulled up just in time and found her feet grazing the grass as she straightened out. Noting Tobias' idea, Ella followed suit and flew the rest of the way to Tyner, dismounting with ease when she was a few feet away. Her smile was fixed on her face as she tucked a strand of windswept hair behind her ear. "Hello, Professor!" Waveeee. "Hey there!" That was a little badger, yeah? She recognized her from the feast.
Brynn had no idea what she was doing down here at the practice pitch. The very thought of Quidditch terrified her, but she did want to learn how to fly even if that thought terrified her too. She was a witch after all and figured broom flying was a part of that. Plus Mo-Marcus was ultra cool and if he was going to have a flying learning thingy for Ravenclaws, then maybe she'd at least check it out.
But once she got down there any little bit of confidence she had went straight out the window. Brown eyes looked up to see a bunch of Ravenclaws in the air.. and they were good. The eleven year old was sure to make herself look stupid with her nonexistent experience. So for now she just sort of hung off to the side by the edge of the pitch, just watching. Wasn't like she had a broom or anything anyway.

'Was this the Quidditch Pitch? Was she at the right place even?'
Josette had seen the post about the new flyers session back at the common room & she figured...since she had just signed up for Quidditch tryouts earlier today, why not maybe see if she could actually fly at all? Unfortunately she'd never actually gotten the opportunity to fly back at home, her father said it was too dangerous. But whose to say that she hadn't found a book in her father's study about the basics of flying? So perhaps she had developed a rather fast-growing curiosity that she wanted to venture out.
So judging by the many people flying around on brooms, it seemed that she had come to the right place. Only problem was...she had to find this person who had posted the flyer for the flying session. And the other problem....she had NO idea who it was. Josette nervously began to fidget with her fingers as she slowly made her way further onto the Pitch looking around for..someone. A helpful someone even?

"Looking good, Soph. New broom? Maybe you can spin down low and encourage some of the new flyers today?"
And there was Lily, also easily taking to the air and heading for the hoops. Lily was a nice surprise last term, out performing all of Mo's expectation and solidly earning a spot on the team. He really regretted losing her after this term, but... he had her now. Hopefully she'd show that grit and timing during her tryout.
"Lily," Mo waved at her, gesturing for her to chase Sophie. "Tag! See if you can catch Sophie!"
From the ground, Mo spotted Lana join them, and he gave the girl a wave. Once again, he pointed her toward Sophie (and now Lily). Cupping his hands, Mo turned and shouted as Lana swooped past. "Lily's IT. Keep away from Lily."

She liked the way her new one flew so far, though, and started another lap around the pitch to get the hang of it a bit more so she WOULD be able to encourage some of the new flyers with credibility, once some showed up.
...Until she overheard Mo distinctly tell Lily to catch her, and she was plagued with a sudden fear over not being one with her broom just yet, but energized by the confidence that she was faster than anyone currently on the pitch.

[QUOTE=Star-Lord;11504410]After seeing the announcement in the common room, Jun made his way to the practice pitch.

But before she could spy her target, she heard Mo call out again to someone else.
Quidditch tag? Game on.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw someone go zooming off. Lily couldn't help but chuckle at the second year's plea to chase Lana instead. Leaning forward on her broom, the seventh year zoomed after Sophie. "Maybe I wanna chase yooooou!" Lily called out, still in hot pursuit of the second year.
Plus, she wasn't completely sure where Lana was at the moment, seeing as Lily hadn't even seen her fellow seventh year show up at the pitch...

Lana continued on her way flying around the pitch and carefully raised her hand to wave back to Mo. She didn't want to lose control of her broom in the middle of a turn or anything. No, falling from her broom was definitely not on the agenda. Nodding her head in understanding, she slowed down slightly to look for Lily. She had seen her fellow seventh year when she took off but had lost sight the moment she was beyong the hoops.
Spotting Lily, she leaned forward a bit and took off in the opposite direction once again. "She can come and get me, if she can catch me." She laughed in response to Sophie as she flew pass the second year.
Seeing Mel on the ground, Lana waved quickly as she flew over again. "Hai, Mel" she shouted. "You should try it, it's a lot of fun." It was a rather amazing experience to be up there and free after all.
As Lana continued to weave through through the air, she noticed a few more Eagles coming around and smiled. "Oh so many Eagle birdies out today," she yelled with a wave to them all. It was rather nice to see them all out on the pitch.
With another scan of the pitch, she finally spotted where Lily was and zoomed toward that side of the pitch. Playing keep away was fun but she did want to be a little closer to the action before she tested if she would stay away. Getting her distance just behind Lily, she pulled back slightly before dropping just below her fellow seventh year to shadow her for a moment before taking off once again.

"C'mon, Mel. Stay with us and have fun. The worst case scenario is that you hate it, but you meet a buncha house mates. Best case is that you love it and want to try out for the team," Mo smiled encouragingly and waved Mel toward the center of the pitch. She really should stay... look! More of her house mates were showing up already.
"Do you have a broom?"

Now here was a girl who was ready to FLY. Hope even brought a broom down with her, which suggested the girl was enthusiastic about trying out. Right? "Hope! Some of the other Claws are already flying and playing tag... I think..." Mo glanced up thoughtfully. "Lily is it. But I'm going to go over some basics. If you want to stay, set your broom on the ground and practice saying 'Up' and mounting it. We'll move on in a minute."

The next Ravenclaw to appear was not a first year, but Mo greeted the boy with a grin and a wave. "Jun. Nice to see you on the pitch. You can either play tag with the girls, or you can stay on the ground and go through the basics. Lily is it right now, but she's hot on Sophie's tail. We're practicing mounting, and then we'll do some easy laps. Whichever you prefer, mate."

Another firstie! Mo had decided that today was pretty much the best day ever, since he was essentially collecting new students like it was his job. See that, Dora and Nigel? Mosef was TEAM BUILDING HERE. Awesome. "Brynn! I'm so glad you're here. Have you met Hope? She's a first year too. And this is Mel... she's a third year, but she's also new. We're practicing making our brooms levitate and then mounting them."
Seemed easy enough, right? Mo dropped his broom on the ground in front of him, extended his hand and said, "UP." See how the broom flew right into his hand, smacking against his palm with a satisfying thunk? They should all do it just like that.

Unfortunately she'd never actually gotten the opportunity to fly back at home, her father said it was too dangerous.
And another new student. Mo waved cheerfully at the girl as she approached. "Hey, I'm Mo... the Captain. We've got two groups going right now. Those who need a refresher are playing tag up there," he pointed at the girls making the rounds over their heads. "And those of us down here are learning some of the basics. D'you have a broom?"
She looked scared to death, actually... 'couple of them did, and Mo smiled reassuringly at them all. "This is gonna be fun, guys. I promise. Flying is the best thing in the world, and Quidditch is the best flying game."

Melek eyes grew as more and more Ravenclaw people showed up. She was starting to feel really lame compared to them. Mel tried to find an exit but escaped seemed impossible. Does every Ravenclaw person like to fly? Geez... Let me out of here! I wanna go home... Her thoughts raced across her mind almost as fast as some of them who were flying. Mel started to wonder if she was cut out for this. Melek backed against the wall, trying to hide her thoughts as she just watch what they would do. Some of them looked almost as scared as her though which was slightly comforting.

Melek eyed the girl that dragged her down here. Man... she is really good... I would never be able to do what she is doing... why bother trying? A sigh escaped her mouth and she thought about begging Mo to let her go. Maybe if Mo sees how desperate to get out of here she was, then maybe he would let her go... but then a voice that she knew called to her.

Cat got an eyelash bat sent back in her direction, and then she was all business. Racing was a lot of hard work, you know? Concentration, speed, knowing how to ration out your energy and when to accelerate the most. It took skill.
Skill which Alice liked to think she had, obviously.
The seventh year shot off right alongside of her friend on the count of three, leaning down and pressing herself to her broom. Low as you could go for maximum speed, right? And it wasn't like she had to pay attention to where she was going. The pitch was practically empty, and people were smart enough to stay out of the way of two speeding brooms. Hopefully.

Tessa couldn't help but smile as she stepped onto the Quidditch pitch. It was perfect- not the ground of course, that didn't really matter, but the sky. The pitch was open and wide, with plenty of room for flying without feeling cramper or as if you were about to crash at every turn.
She wasn't here for her own practice today, however, she was here to help her friend... who wasn't there yet. She looked around again for any sign of the young Hufflepuff, but she was nowhere to be found. That gave her time to make preparations. She lovingly placed her broom on the ground and pulled out her wand. She muttered the spell she had researched, which limited the Firebolt's height and speed capabilities. She didn't want Lux rocketing off somewhere. That finished, she pulled some pads out of her bag- something to help her friend feel a little more secure.

Soooo....they weren't in trouble, right?
Still half in her office and half in the pitch, Tiara finally climbed out fully into the stands. "Thank you for joining us, Mr. Tempus, Miss Bishop. I would like you both to meet your new housemate, Bri Granger." Or possibly they had met last night at the Opening Feast, but either way she was still a new housemate. After a brief pause in case they wanted to exchange pleasantries, she continued on. "Miss Granger here is interested in learning how to fly. I thought you two may be able to help her with that." Perhaps not right now, as lessons would be starting soon, but at some point in the near future before they both got busy with Quidditch.

Ian decided a bit of flying might help his chances for the house quidditch team. He brought his new broom out to the pitch and saw some folks from his house gathered in a small group. He walked over, hoping that perhaps he could get some flying mates.
When he came close to them, he waved a bit more demonstratively than he might normally, hoping to get their attention. He saw the head girl and another boy he didn't know with the flying instructor and a firstie.

Gwen had seen the notice on the board. This was the coolest part about finding out she was magical. They actually got to fly. She had consequently headed outside and located what she assumed was the sports field. There were kids with brooms out there, so she was probably in the right place. Except that she didn't have a broom.
She stepped over to the group of Ravenclaws that had congregated and waved her hand shyly. "Um, hi. Is this where I learn to fly?" she asked, a little awkwardly. As soon as they looked at her they would notice she had no broom, and probably tell her she had to get one before she could learn. Why couldn't they fly without brooms? It was like a story out of a fairy tale where the wicked witch had a broom that she flew on, and green bubbling potions that she made. Her highly religious grandparents would not approve. Regardless, the idea of flying, not being attached to the ground thrilled Gwen right down to her toes, so here she was. Ready to learn to fly.
