To the right of the barnyard exterior you notice the many pens sectioned and fenced holding many creatures. Housed in each of the pens are the X-XXX rated creatures, from infants to adult-sized. On a shelf immediately beside the door are dragon hide gloves and goggles.
Hanging beside the gates, are pink polka-dotted colored aprons and jumpsuits (in case you want to keep your current clothes clean). On the other side of the door are temperature maintained bottles and feed that is charmed to regenerate on its own when low enough. Once you're allowed, feel free to give your hand at caring. Beware, Lala the goose keeps a look-out around here at times, so be on your best behavior.

Alex smiled when Sander said his favorites were the winged horses and hippogriffs. "I think the horses are my favorites too, but I haven't met everyone yet so maybe I should reserve judgement.". While Alex and Sander were talking, she continued to keep an eye out for the Jarvey's.
Sander's smiled faded when Alex told him that the creatures were lucky because they had him to look out for them. Yes for now but not when he graduated in a few months. Just the thought of leaving Hogwarts saddened Sander. He now wished that he had attended this school earlier. He would miss all his friends, the Professors...yes even the creatures.
Sander sighed and tried to disperse the sad thoughts by thinking of something else. The Jarveys! Now where were they? Sander walked around in the play pen and searched for them. He saw movement first before he heard the spew of words that soon followed. He chuckled as he heard what they had to say. If his mother were here, she would have washed their mouths out with soap.
"They're heeeerrrreee," Sander motioned to Alex as he moved in the direction from where the voices were coming from. The closer he got, the louder the voices became. Sander reached into the pail he had brought with him, pulled out a dead rat and threw the carcass onto the ground in front of him.
Then he waited to see whether the Jarveys would make an appearance.

Alex was looking at Sander when his mood seemed to change suddenly. She wondered if she had said something to upset him, but couldn't imagine what it might have been. She watched him carefully, hoping to figure out why he now seemed so sad. Alex tried to recall what they had talked about. Being a hero, favorite animals, animals being confined, how lucky the animals were to have him........ahhhh she had nothing. She finally gave up and decided to ask. "What's wrong Sander?"
Ohhhh, the Jarveys were here. Alex had heard them and they were raw. How could such language come out of those little animals? Alex laughed in amusement. "Do you have to be a seventh year to tend to the Jarveys? I can't imagine subjecting the firsties to that language." When Sander threw a rat onto the ground to bait the Jarveys, Alex cringed a bit. Not that she wasn't expecting it, but still...... Rats didn't give her the creeps like squirmy bugs, but they were just nasty. Rats she could deal with though, especially if they were dead. She knew it was only a matter of time before the Jarveys made an appearance.

Sander continued to keep an eye out for the Jarveys to make an appearance, when Alex asked him what was wrong? He turned his head to her puzzled at her question until he realized she must have sensed his sadness earlier. Not wanting to spoil her mood too, he tried to think of something else that he could tell her. But after a couple of minutes, he decided that he owed her the truth. After all she was his best friend.
Sander smiled regretfully at his name twin,"I was just thinking how much I'm going to miss this place and everyone here. I don't know whether you're aware but I fought against coming here...but now, I don't want to leave," Sander sighed.
"I didn't know I'd make such good friends here. I hated saying goodbye to my friends in Durmstrang and now I'm going to have to do it again here in Hogwarts," Sander quickly looked away and walked over to where he could hear the Jarveys talking. He needed to change the subject before he started tearing up.
"Okay it's time to come out of there. I have more rats here." he called out to the ferret like looking creatures.
Then he remembered Alex's comment about the Jarveys' excellent vocabulary and laughed,"No I don't think you have to be a Seventh year to do this. Although I have to agree these guys' language is a little too colorful for a firstie's gentle ears," Sander winked at Alex.

After Alex asked Sander what was wrong, he went silent for a moment. She hadn't wanted to pry, but he looked so sad. When he confessed that he was going to miss Hogwarts and his friends, she understood. Alex had been in denial for quite some time. She was trying very hard not to think about graduating and having to say goodbye. Not normally a teary person, Alex did not know how she was going to leave school without having a hysterical meltdown. She had to look away from Sander, as the tears were threatening to appear just at the thought of saying goodbye. This had been her best year at Hogwarts. She had made such awesome friends....... Alex couldn't imagine how hard it must be to have to leave your school and your friends two years in a row.
As Alex pushed those thoughts to the back of her mind, she was able to look at Sander again. Trying to lighten the mood she said, "Whaaat, you didn't want to come to Hogwarts?""You didn't know how much fun we are? Seriously though, I know what you mean. I've been trying very hard not to think about leaving. It's going to be soooo hard.......but, just because we're leaving school.....doesn't mean we can't stay in touch with our friends.. Even as Alex said those words, she knew that things would never be quite the same. "Hey Sander, you know you're my name twin and BFF. That means best friend forever. You can't get rid of me that easily."
When Sander pulled out more rats to tempt the Jarveys and called out to them, Alex was glad. Not a moment too soon. Taking a rat from Sander, Alex dangled it in what she she hoped was an enticing manner. "Here little Jarveys. Come out, come out wherever you are."

Sander laughed when Alex teased him about how fun Hogwarts was. Shaking his head as he grinned back at her, "No I honestly didn't want to come here. I didn't think it would be much fun here, but then again, I didn't think I'd make the friends I did. It's all of you that had made Hogwarts fun. Without you, Tessa. Bay, Lux and Louis, I honestly think it would have been dreary." Sander shared his feelings with Alex.
"Look at this crazy aging thing we're all going through...except lucky Lux, I would have slipped into a really bad depression if all of you hadn't been here to make me laugh and see the brighter side of things, like you're doing now." Sander looked at Alex.
"Thanks Alex for being my best friend. And yes you're right, even though we have to say goodbye, it doesn't mean that it has to be permanent. We can still keep in touch and in fact, I intend to. So don't go hiding out on some remote hidden island," Sander grinned back Alex.
"Best Friends Forever...no matter what happens," Sander agreed nodding his head. Then he saw movement from the corner of his eye. It was a nose peeking out from the bushes.
"I think the Jarveys are coming out," Sander whispered as he pointed out the nose to Alex. A nose that was soon followed by other noses and then feet and then....
The Jarveys had come out to play...or rather in this case...eat. As Sander saw one pounce on the rat closest to it.
"Here go ahead and feed them. Drop the rats near them but don't get too close to them. Their claws are sharp and they love to bite," Sander warned Alex as he handed the pail of dead rats to her.

"Well please thank the person that forced you to come here because I don't know what I would have done without my bestie this year. Who would have thought that that crazy, chaotic train ride would have given me my best friend?" Alex smiled as she thought back to her first encounter with Sander.
She agreed with him that great friends had made the bad times tolerable. "We've all had our moments, but isn't that what friends are for........to support each other, have each other's back and make each other laugh every now and then?". "So you are welcome Sander. It has been my pleasure to be your friend. And thank you because you have given me more than you could ever imagine." Alex held out her pinkie and said, "Best friends forever.....no matter what". They were a little old for pinkie promises, but hey...why not? OK, enough of the mushy stuff. Alex was not having any tears today.
Fortunately, the Jarveys picked that moment to make their appearance. Sander gave Alex the pail-o-rats and the honor of feeding the critters. Alex moved a little closer and began to toss some rats in the general vicinity of the Jarveys. Hearing Sander say the words "sharp claws" and "love to bite", she wisely kept her distance. As more of the animals came out from hiding, Alex threw more rats their way. Looking at Sander, she asked, "How am I doing?". Never in a million years would Alex have pictured herself tossing dead rats to swearing ferrets. It just goes to show that anything is possible.

Sander chuckled as Alex mentioned the first day they met on the train. Thinking back to that day, he couldn't help but shakie his head.
"That was a crazy train ride. Runaway Pygmy Puffs, cats and more people in a carriage then I've ever experienced before. It felt like we had the entire school in that one small compartment," Sander laughed.
"But you know what? If I had a chance to change what happened that day, I wouldn't because that was the day I met my best friend. You. Who would have thought that we would end up being such good friends," he smiled at her before frowning in puzzlement at what she said next.
"Me? I gave you more than I could ever imagine? How did I do that? I think it's the other way around. You've kept me company while I worked with the animals and you came skating with me when we found the Room of Requirement and made it into a skating rink. You have been a good friend, Alex," Sander pointed out to his name twin.
Raising his little pinky, he crossed it with Alex's. "Yes pinky promise. Best friend forever...no matter what," Sander smiled at Alex before turning to look at the Jarveys as they came running out to feed.
He watched as Alex began cautiously feeding them. Yes, she definitely had come a long way from helping him with the winged creatures to feeding the Augureys, the Salamanders and now the Jarveys. Now if only he could convince her to feed the Flobberworms, Sander chuckled to himself.
That would be his goal....to get Alex to work and handle those squiggly wriggly creatures...yes that includes live bugs.
"You're doing great. By the way they TOTALLY love live worms. Want me to get some so that you can feed them?" Sander teased Alex trying to keep a straight face.

"Yes, who would have thought", Alex replied. Who knew that their chance encounter on the train would have changed her life. Sander seemed confused by Alex's statement. He really had no idea how much he had given her.... really? She looked at Sander with an expression that was unreadable.
"Sander, you gave me friendship and that's worth more than all the gold in the world. You took the time to get to know me, most people never bothered. I was always the quiet girl and most people didn't know that I was really not all that quiet. You included me in your group of friends and always made time for me even though you had tons of school work and a new girlfriend.". Alex knew at this point she would probably lose her battle with her tears, but she wasn't finished yet. "I have a suspicion that you arranged for Bay to be my "friend" date at the Valentine's ball so I wouldn't be alone. You helped me remember just how much I love animals. You taught me so much....." It was at this moment that a few rogue tears managed to escape from Alex's eyes. She quickly wiped them away, embarrassed that she had had a momentary lapse. Her eyes filled with unshed tears, Alex managed a smile. "I've got more, but you get the picture.". At least she hoped he did. Never ask a woman a question if you don't really want to hear the answer.
Leave it to Sander to break the tension. Bugs, they couldn't feed the animals without a bug joke? Calling Sander's bluff, Alex said, "Go get the worms". Maybe she could conquer her fear of bugs or at least face her fear. Alex had held dead rats today. She could handle a little creepy, crawly, nasty worm.......with her friend's help that is.

Gulp...she wasn't going to cry was she? Sander always had a problem with women crying. He always ended up getting emotional too...and yes, sometimes it meant shedding a couple of tears himself.
Sooo....when he noticed the tears shimmering in her eyes, he began to panic...
O_o...he didn't even know that he had done those things. It was just the way he was. He always made sure that his friends were never ignored no matter how busy he was. Wait! She knew that Bay had been lamenting the fact that he would be dateless at the Valentine's Ball?
Oh wait, she thought that he had arranged for Bay to be her partner for the night.
I didn't actually arrange for Bay to ask you...I mean..I did...I mean...I thought that since he didn't have a date and you didn't have one either, that it would be nice if my friends...you and Bay, not be dateless. I'm sorry if I offended you by doing that," Sander quickly apologized.
Then she had more to say...and then...oh no she was crying. Sander wanted to put his arms around and comfort her, but he didn't know whether that would make her cry more. He was horrible when it came to comforting people. Embarrased, he looked down at his feet, only looking up when she asked him another question.
Quickly nodding, he acknowledged that he understood what she was trying to tell him, "Yes I get the picture, Alex. I'm sorry I made you cry," he smiled gently at her.
Then he laughed when she dared him to bring on the live worms. Yes she had called his bluff or maybe not....they still had to feed the Bowtruckles...and they ate live woodlice.
Bumping his shoulder against her in a friendly manner, Sander admitted,"Okay you got me. Jarveys don't eat live worms, but I know a creature that still prefers likes their food alive when they feed. The Bowtruckles like eating live woodlice," he grinned at Alex.
"But I think that it is getting late now and I think we should get back to the castle once we're done feeding the Jarveys. We can always feed the Bowtruckles another day." Sander told Alex as he belately noticed the sun, now sittting low on the horizon.
Then something caught his eye. He smiled as he pulled out a small rat from the bucket Alex was holding and knelt down to toss it to the newcomer.
"Hey look at the baby Jarvey. This is the first time I've seen one. So have you got names for these guys here?" Sander grinned over at his best friend, knowing how she liked to name the creatures here in Hogwarts.

So have you got names for these guys here?" Sander grinned over at his best friend, knowing how she liked to name the creatures here in Hogwarts.[/QUOTE]
"Sanderrrr, you didn't make me cry! I'm sorry. I'm not usually this emotional, but I just wanted you to know what you've done for me and how much I appreciate it. It's a good thing. I just got a little overwhelmed." Alex tried to explain because clearly she hadn't done such a good job before. Sander couldn't even look at her and he was obviously embarrassed. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you feel awkward. And you didn't offend me about the Bay thing. That was just an example of you looking out for your friends. I didn't mean it in a bad way."
Alex had had a moment of bravery when she asked for the worms. She was really ready to give it a try when Sander admitted that he was joking. But then.....bowtruckles......live woodlice. LIVE WOODLICE! Ewwww! Alex was just about to throw in the towel when Sander said it was getting late. Late yesssss. Alex was sure that Sander could not have missed her involuntary shudder at the mention of lice. She started to itch just thinking about them. It was getting late, but Alex hoped that she hadn't scared Sander away. "Maybe I can tackle the bowtruckles the next time", Alex said.
Then Sander spotted a baby Jarvey. "Awwww, he's so cute. I think this little baby looks like a Coco." Alex smiled because Sander knew that she liked to name the animals she met. "Now over there, we have Sunny, Sparky and hmmmm.......Bubbles.". Alex had to laugh because those names sounded ridiculous, even to her. "Well I guess we'd better wind things down. It is getting late."

Sander smiled at Alex and bumped shoulders with her in brotherly, best friendish way. "Please...please don't say you're sorry. You're my best friend, Alex. You never have to say sorry to me," Sander reminded her as he placed an arm around her shoulder and gave her a sideways hug.
....and just when things started to feel awkward again, Alex began naming the Jarveys, and Sander burst out laughing. "Coco, Bubbles, Sunny and Spa...Spar..ky? Alex, these are Jarveys,, Sunny and Sparky sound like names for Phoenixes," Sander cracked up again, bending over holding his waist as he laughed.
His belly ached but Sander didn't care. It had been awhile since he laughed this much.
"Thank you, Alex. I really needed this," Sander told Alex as he wiped the tears of laughter from his eyes.
"Yes unfortunately, we have to wind up here. Here let me have that bucket and I'll return it to the shed before we leave. Are you ready to leave?" Sander asked as he made his way to the gate of the playpen and opened it, stepping aside to let Alex leave first before following her out and closing the gate behind him.

Alex was feeling better because Sander had forgiven for her moment of ......whatever that was. She smiled when he laughed at her Jarvey names. "Hey, I just call 'em like I see 'em. Now tell me the baby doesn't look like a Coco, all cute and little and brown. And Sparky, he's the one with the most attitude and the dirtiest mouth." Alex was glad to see Sander laughing. He had looked so sad earlier and her little outburst didn't exactly help the situation.
Sander asked if she was ready to leave. Alex handed him the rat bucket and replied, "Yes, I think I'm ready.". Walking through the playpen gate, Alex turned around to address Sander. "Thanks twin, it was fun as always. Hope it didn't get too real for you. I guess I'd better get back to my Common Room. Homework calls. "See you later." With that Alex headed off toward the castle.

For some reason, Mo had the thought that hanging out with the creatures today would make him feel less sad-faced about his current condition. It usually worked, and there was something to be said for taking care of someone else and forgetting about being 100 years old.
It was sort of working, mostly because Mo was distracted by wrapping himself in the polka-dotted apron. He didn't mind getting dirty, but it was there and amusing and... he needed the distraction. Now then... who should he bother first?

She hadn't been thinking of stopping by the playpens at all, but had spotted an apron-clad Mo on her way back up to the castle. That was just an outfit calling her name, so Alice had put whatever useless thing she'd been planning to do on hold. Just... to compliment his fashion choice, of course.
"Pity I don't have your camera. You look better in an apron than Ascanius does," the seventh year commented once she'd made it over to him. Did a wonderful job of not letting on that her knees were hell, didn't she?

Mo turned at the sound of Alice's voice and grinned broadly at her. "I'm very comfortable with my masculinity, Ace. The difference between me and Essex is that I make this look good." He petted the apron a bit before turning to examine all of the crates and cages.
"My camera is in my bag. If you want. Or you can come have a niffler race with me. I vote for the latter, honestly, because I don't want any pictures of me like this." He meant the gray hair, not the apron. Who cared about the apron?

"Ascanius made it look good, too." And she had a scrapbook full of developed pictures to prove it, she did.
Alice considered Mo's offer of a niffler race very seriously, finally opting to nick his camera from his bad AND watch creatures run about for their amusement. A few pictures of Cactus in his lovely spotted apron were snapped before she replaced it in his bag. He'd share those with her later, right?
"Niffler race, then. Are there terms?"

Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
Felix had been doing a lot of moping lately...at least, she thought he was. He just kept making those whiny noises and she knew they meant something but for the life of her she couldn't remember what so the Gryffindor was going with the idea he was lonely. That had to be it, of course there could have been other options but this one involved a trip to the playpens with Jun so lonely or not, the kneazle was gonna have to deal with it.
"We can't have him trying to snack on anything out here so I'm thinking we head to the kneazle pen?" Felix wouldn't try taking a bite out of one of his own kind so it'd be safe--plus she wanted to play with the felines. Ahem. "Or we could pick another pen. So long as the creatures are bigger than him." She said, holding the kneazle toward him for him to get a better look.
It was then that she saw THOSE. Her nose was in instant wrinkling mode. "Ew. Why pink. Why is everything the man associates with pink?" Horrid colour it was and even worse when it was on a polka-dotted apron.

It was a shame crups weren't allowed in school. Uggie probably would like it here better instead of being all cooped up in Char's house with her other pets. Sadly, Jun just had to be muggleborn and crups didn't do well around them. They became vicious and it was better to just leave him with the Stylinsons while he was at school. But at least he'll be able to play with other creatures in the pens. Hopefully none that were too big.
Jun nodded. "Safest bet for him," Because the other creatures could come after him. But seeing as the kneazle was Lex's, he'd probably put up a good fight anyway. Jun softly petted the kneazle and nodded again. "How about another pen with creatures his size? That way we can keep can eye on him and no creature would want to eat him," Though, the other wouldn't want to anyways. If the professor fed them well enough.
Laughing, he walked over to the aprons and picked up an apron. "Dunno. Maybe it's his favorite color or something?" Because that was not weird at all. Right. Taking one, Jun teasing tossed one at Lex. "Put it on, I'm sure you'll look good in it,"

Lex couldn't tell how happy Felix was to be here, mostly because she was too busy scanning the pens to pay much attention to him. She took his lack of wiggling and hissing to mean he wasn't completely against the idea of being here...that is until she turned at Jun's words and saw him petting him. The kneazle had always been one for affection, of course he wasn't complaining. She would have to wait until they got inside.
Her eyes drifted back to the pens. Creatures his size. At first she was set to complain she didn't see any but then Felix broke her concentration and had her looking in a completely different direction causing her to walk to the pen across from the one they'd been standing at. "Jarvey's are cool." Rude as hell, but cool. "Dora's got one, he and Felix don't get along well so we couldn't have them in the Prefect Compartment at the same time." One of several reasons why she'd taken to walking the corridors of the train. "He'll be easier to spot amongst them too." So she wouldn't have to pay as much attention to him.
Lex leaned against the fence of the pen, watching Felix take up the spot next to her before turning to see Jun with the hideous aprons. "Even more reason to question his tastes.." Who got their favourite colour being pink these days? Seriously. She raised a hand and snatched the apron as it came toward her but made no moves to put it on. "Pink's hardly my colour. I doubt it. You don't suppose he'd mind me turning this thing blue right? Like if he happened to walk by just when I do some quick wand work?" She wasn't about to get in trouble for a colour.

"Does Felix get along with others often?" Because weren't kneazles sometimes very iffy about playing with other creatures. One of his cousin's had a kneazles once, and it didn't get along with others. Jun and his brother would usually trap it in the clothes hamper and set books on it. It was the only way to keep that little demon from scratching everyone and ripping up shoes. Jun nodded and walked over to Lex's other side. Maybe getting a kneazle wouldn't be so bad for school. But then it might not get along with his crup back home. "Then creatures smaller than him?"
He looked at the apron and laughed. Seriously, why pink aprons? Did his grandmother send them to him as a gift for getting the job? Most likely the reason. Jun was sure not many students put them on, or maybe they did. Today, he wasn't going to be one of them. "I don't think so, as long as you turn it back pink when putting it back," Which wouldn't really get her in trouble. the professor would mostly likely tell her the same thing if he passed by. "I say go for it and change the color. Would be doing us all a favor," And the professor should invest in different colored aprons for next term.

Now wasn't that the million dollar question? Was it terrible she was somewhat proud of the answer? "Nope. To Felix, most everything is either competition...or lunch." And she didn't know which was more unsettling but it gave the impression he wasn't a pansy, which she could very much live with. "Took him three years to stop hunting Lottie's Pygmy Puff when we sat together on the train." Which brought her to the answer to his second question. "Nah, Jarvey's are fine. He and Dora's Jarvey are special cases of miserable mixed in with uncooperative." Besides, if they went off of what Felix was okay with, they'd turn around and head to the duck pond to watch him hunt the fish.
Sound logic right there. It wouldn't affect anyone so long as she put it back. Some Professors just liked being super particular about what they considered defacing school property. This was clearly the exception. Professor Thompson wouldn't, in his right mind, assume everyone would be okay with this colour. Surely he knew their were difficult people like her at this school. With a tap of her wand and the right incantation to boot, she watched the colour spread across the apron, slowly turning it....purple...? "What?" The Gryffindor blinked at the apron. "We'll...just pretend it was meant to do that..." Seriously, purple? Aging was a dangerous thing.
"You keeping yours pink?"

He smiled for real then, fleetingly, before turning his attention to the nifflers. Now then... if this was to be a proper race, then he was going to pick out the winningest niffler in the bunch. His hands got licked and and snuffled, and Mo picked out the one who seemed the most eager.
"I'll go drop my watch, and you can cover their eyes." Pause pause pause. "Ace. Term is almost over, you know?" And he hated that, actually.

"You keeping yours pink?"
Jun laughed. "I kind of like him already. A little vicious kneazle, just like the little vicious prefect who owns him," he patted her head ans sat up on the fence. Little vicious kneazles were probably the only creatures Jun wasn't really fond of. But nothing he could do about Lex's. He still preferred his crup anytime. "Then maybe we shouldn't put him with them. Thompson might come after us if one goes missing," But then again, they could steal someone else's and replace it. Thompson would never have to know. "I like Jarveys. I've thought about getting one but got a crup instead," Safer bet for him, actually. And everyone back home.
Fixing his hair under his cap and setting it back on, Jun tried not to laugh at Lex's failed attempt on changing the color of the apron. "Do you want me to help you change the color? Because you seem to be having a bit of trouble," And by the looks of it, it wasn't anywhere near blue. Tsk tsk. But it was probably because of the whole aging thing. It was either making everyone cranky, have broken bones, memory loss and other annoying side effects. They just needed to get cured already. Pink? Looking down at his apron, Jun pouted a bit and took out his wand. "No, I'll change it. It's not really my color either," Charming the apron, he watched as it turned into a soft shade of green and was content with it.
"No more pink,"
