Feel like looking at some stars? You've come to the right place. From here in the Hogwarts Observatory you can see a tiny fraction of the 400 billion or so stars found in the Milky Way Galaxy. This circular but spacious room has been locked and opened as many times as there have been Astronomy professors staffed at the school. The huge telescope that former Hogwarts Astronomy professor, Professor Anteres, had put in years ago is still here and fully operable. Students are very welcome to try and use it. If you need a hand Professor Flamsteed is always somewhere close by and can lend you assistance. If the giant telescope is too much there is always smaller telescopes stored away in the cupboards around the room which you can borrow and use as you please as well as other astronomy objects.
Large star charts are pinned to the walls which anyone is free to study for own leisure or school assignment. Don't try and take the charts down though, as they are charmed to warn if somebody tries to remove them.
Stargazing is an activity best practiced at night and therefore the observatory remains unlocked. Students adhere by a curfew and after that hour no students should be found out of bed. If you desire to study the heavens after curfew, you need a signed note from Professor Flamsteed showing that you are allowed to stay up after hours. If caught after hours without a signed note you can expect that there will be consequences like loss of house points or detention.
The observatory is place for scientific inquiry much like the library is a place to immerse yourself in books, since it’s a shrine to our massively beautiful universe. Please respect any teacher or student spending time in the observatory by not running around or shouting in high pitched voices. Just because Professor Flamsteed isn't currently in the observatory doesn't mean he isn't watching what is going on.
OOC: you do not HAVE to RP your character asking permission from Professor Flamsteed in his office before posting here after hours and may pretend that you received permission. Also, please keep in mind that while looking at the stars can be a romantic endeavor, that is not the purpose of the observatory and any mischief may result in points being deducted or detention.

"This is simply gorgeous," she breathed, watching as it swirled around in the sky.
She looked up as Lux called out. Leaving her telescope, she walked over to Lux. "May I see?" she asked, taking a peek as she wandered away to another telescope. "I don't think we have to write them down," she replied, straightening.
Tessa wandered over to look out of Sander's telescope. "You're quite good at this," she told him with a warm smile. Soon, he was finding Jupiter, and she took a look at that also. "Amazing how much is still out there," she said, as she stepped away from his telescope. "How much we don't know about the universe is simply fascinating."
She returned to her telescope with a smile. "Probably not, but I'll see what I can do," she told him with a grin, as she returned her telescope's view to Saturn. She began to count, but once she passed 100, she decided to stop. "I could be here forever counting those rings," she said with a laugh. "I think I would be better spending my time looking at other things!"
She continued to search the night sky... when suddenly, a strange object appeared in her view. It was strangely shaped, and strangely colored... "Guys," she said with a frown. "Any idea what this could be?" Had she just found an alien? She took a peek at the other end of her telescope and laughed. It was only an insect that had perched on the lens. However, she wanted to see what the others would guess it was before she made the reveal.
Sander immediately looked up when he heard Tessa had seen something through her telescope. "You saw something unusual? Was it a shooting star?...hey maybe you saw a UFO. Let me take a look," Sander immediately looked through her viewfinder.
There was something strange. Sander had never seen something like this before. "You're right. It is weird. It seems to have blocked out some of the stars. I wonder if it's some massive asteroid, that we don't know about. We should tell Professor Airey about it," Sander looked up at Tessa beginning to get excited.
"Your name could end up in the history books for finding it, Tessa," Sander told her before quickly back through the telescope.
Then something happened which actually made him jump back in surprise. "The thing just moved.....wait a minute!!." Sander looked up from the viewfinder and leaned over to look at the lens. He looked up at Tessa and bumped his shoulder against hers.
"Good one you had me fooled for awhile," he grinned shaking his head at her. "Hey I'm going to take a break and go up to the Tower Patch, do you want to join me?" he smiled at Tessa.

Lux felt so proud of herself as she let Tessa look at what she had found on her own. "I actually found a planet, Tessa!" And her first time using the telescope as well! "Okay, so I won't write the coordinates down," she added in reply to Sander and Tessa as she went back to looking out at Mars. That was really neat, but she now was interested in finding something else in the sky.
Moving her telescope around again with the dials, she kept her eyes peeled in case something else came up, figuring that from what she knew about the solar system, there had to be something else in the vicinity of Mars. But why was this taking a while. Bleh. When a big ball came into sight she squealed and then used the focusing spell again to see things clearer. "I found Jupiter!" Wow, that was so cool! she had found another planet!
Following off from that, she moved the dials some more until... "And Saturn!" This was so cool. Maybe she should start finding some of the stars now like Sander had.

Bay watched his friends all show each other their objects that they found in the sky. "waaahooooo" Bay said cheering them all on.. he couldn't wait to tell his professor what he saw.
"Alright guys, I think I'm going to take a break as well" he said, most likely go take another nap. "Tessa, i'll be in the common room if you guys need me for anything else" he smiled and started to put his things away and he made his way down the stairs.

Tessa struggled to keep her composure as Sander looked through the telescope. It was quite difficult, but she managed. "YOu think that could be a possibility?" she asked Sander, trying to fake surprise, but her voice was shaking from restraining her laughter. When Sander discovered the fraud, she broke down into giggles. "Well I was going to tell you if it had continued," she told him with a laugh. How long, she didn't know- it would have been a good prank.
"Sounds great! Let me just finish up and I'll meet you there," she told him, turning to write a few notes and put her things in an orderly way. She glanced into her telescope again, moving it slightly and noticed a pattern in the night sky. Following the paths between the stars, she quickly wrote down another note. She had found the constellation of Perseus. She drew a quick sketch of it, and then closed her notes.
She looked over as Lux mentioned finding other things. "That's great Lux! There's so much out there to see," she commented with a soft laugh. It was great that homework could be so much fun for them. She nodded as Bay said he was going to head out. "Sounds good Bay, I'm sure we'll see you around," she said, waving as the younger boy left.

Ian struggled to finally make it up to the observatory. After having read the notice about homework, he thought this might be the simpler option. His painful joints and shuffling feet however proved to be much more of a challenge to ascend from the kitchen level to this tower in the castle. It might have been less strenuous had he not had to readjust his route more than once because of the blasted moving staircases. He must have gone through that one hall way 3 times. His wheezy gasps for air betrayed his fitness level as he entered the room.
There were other students already in the observatory doing the same thing he was. Homework. He looked around and wondered when he might have a chance to work on his stuff. Oh well Ian thought perhaps this is a chance to catch my breath. He found a seat and began to unpack his quill and parchment to make notes if he saw anything. He began to study the charts around him to see what he might like to observe.
While he was waiting, he might as well do something nice for the professor whose class was cut short. He began to draw on a piece of parchment and when he was satisfied with the drawing, he turned the parchment over and penned the following poem.
The Big Bang Theory was the topic today
An interesting topic for each, some would say.
He bent for the wand and his back it did pop
Unfortunately, for us the class had to stop.
I hope you feel better soon, Professor Flamsteed!
From Ian Tinker, Hufflepuff.
When he was done, he folded the parchment as best he could in the shape of a paper airplane and charmed it to fly. He then sent it toward the hospital wing, hoping to land at the professor's bedside.

Sander came back down and returned to where he had left his things at the telescope. Taking out his wand, he ended the lens focusing spell by saying, "Finite". Then he packed up his things before walking over to wait for Tessa to finish up packing. "Hey are the rest of you guys ready yet? It is getting late." Sander asked Lux and Bay.
He decided he would wait for his all his friends to finish so that they could all leave together. He didn't want to leave Lux all alone by herself. The castle could be creepy especially late at night when every one else was in their Common Rooms.

So Caelen had chosen the second homework assignment. Figured as such because this one seemed harder. And she really liked the pride of actually getting things done. And -sigh an whine here- bookwork was boooorrring! -end whine- She actually liked to get up and do things, not just copy things.
And this room had star charts and cool things like that. Thank goodness the school was so helpful. Because she wasn't exactly sure what she was doing. Without the actual charts and giant telescope, she would be lost. l-o-s-t lost. Like the stupid television show.
Heading towards the giant telescope, she moved the actual scoping part -the part you look out of- towards her eye and then looked at one of the star charts. She was going to find the milky way first. Mostly because it reminded her of candy. Yuuum candy.
It took a while to find the milky way, though she DID actually find it after about half an hour. Awesome! She was like an astronomer. A really cute astronomer if she said so herself. *cough, cough*
Okay, now she had to find planets and such. Even the tiny planet of pluto. She felt like she could relate to the small planet -in theory of course, it being a planet- being only five feet tall herself. Which meant that the puny planet would be the last one she scoped out. She was smart like that, making plans and such.
So with pluto being bumped to lowest urgency status, she went and continued. And continued, and continued. She walked back and forth from the charts of stuff to the giant microscope that she was hopefully going to give her athletic looking arms. Because that thing was heavy! Or maybe she was weak. She didn't exactly work out or anything. Unless you counted changing the television channel a workout.
At long last -about an hour and a half later, she was impatient- the redhead had found Jupiter and was finding Saturn. The redhead had an idea.
Stepping away from the giant telescope -again, HEAVY!) she laid her coat on the floor and opened her bag. She had gotten the House Elves to make her cold food to eat up here. And though eating was probably not allowed, she brought things that wouldn't make a mess and she was willing to clean up any messes she made.
So she ate a trail mix and thought about Saturn -which she hated by the way. If Saturn was a person, she wouldn't talk to them for a while- which she was still trying to find.

Encouraged by Tessa's praise, Lux was even more determined to find some stars than she had been before. Moving away from her telescope to consult her textbook, she heard Bay say he was leaving; that sucked. Smiling, she waved by to him. "See you later, Bay." She herself was not going to leave until she finished all the star gazing she hoped to do.
Tessa and Sander were leaving too? "Wait for me! I want to finish this!" Meh. She didn't want to be up here all by herself.
Moving over to where she had placed her textbook, she looked through it until she found a page on Andromeda. Maybe if she had a good idea of what it looked like, it would be easier for her to spot it in space. Huh. Its picture looked like a bunch of stars to her; was that what all galaxies looked like? Why was Sander leaving her when she would need his help in figuring out if what she found really was Andromeda? Sighing, she flipped through the book some more until she found a page with a picture of the Milky Way. Not much better.
Shrugging, she decided to just go for it and hope that what she found was okay. She really did want to try hard like Professor Flamsteed asked her, but she such limited knowledge of space and he was not here for her to ask him questions.
Turning back to her telescope, she started fiddling with the dials again, looking out for anything that looked like either of the galaxies. Maybe she should have looked up the coordinates, but then it wasn't as if she would have been able to understand them anyway.
After a while, she spotted a bunch of stars that she thought looked like the Milky Way. "Wow, galaxies are so pretty." It was amazing to think of how far away stars were and that a lot of the ones she saw at night had actually died out a long time ago. Smiling at herself, she started looking for a galaxy near the Milky Way that had looked like the picture of Andromeda; while reading, one of the things that she understood was that it was nearish to the Milky Way, which she was pretty sure she had just found.
Turning the dials for a little while, she finally found a bunch of stars that looked like the galaxy she had been looking for. Wow, go her. She had managed to find a few planets and two big groups of stars!
Happy with herself, she stepped away from the telescope and used the Finite spell on it. Time for her to pack up, so she placed her textbook back in her bag. "Tessa, I'm done!" she announced to her friend as she walked over to her. Now it was time to leave.

When there was an open telescope, Ian stood up and walked toward it with his parchment and quill out already. He'd begun to make some notes, based upon the star charts above him. He was hoping to see something exciting. He placed his items on a table close by and began to look at the telescope. He looked to the star chart and then back to the telescope to see if it was even pointed in the correct direction. He figured he'd use the spells suggested and started with Lens Focalis! He leaned over the eyepiece and could see many shimmering objects, but nothing that really suited. He was surprised for a moment. He wondered if there were something simple he could use to find the direction he was aiming at currently. Of course a compass would work, but he wasn't sure if it would operate correctly here at Hogwarts.
He set about trying to figure things out without the aid of any muggle navigational tools. He would glance at the charts and then through the eyepiece trying to decipher where he was looking. As the night sky didn't have the added benefit of the lines that appeared on the charts, he was having some trouble. [i]Why couldn't there be lines for the different constellations?[i] he wondered to himself.
He finally had a thought. He began to copy down the stars location. He started with a circle, roughly the size of the what he was seeing and then drew the stars where they were. As the drawing took shape, he was pleased that he could hold it up to the charts and sort of make out different shapes. Finally, he began to see the patterns and he noted the Andromeda. He began to look a bit closer as he adjusted the focus. His eyes seemed to get a little watery as he stared. He thought maybe now would be a good time to use the other spell. He spoke Oculo Focalis. He looked into the eye piece again. Ah, much better He said to himself. He saw something a little fuzzy and determined, based upon the charts and his reading he might be looking at the Andromeda Nebula. He continued to make the notes on his parchment as well as draw the pictures and smiled. I think I've done what I should. With that, he began to clean up his area.

Soon, Lux was done and Tessa stood, stretching as she fell into step with Lux. "Congrats! How did it feel, navigating the skies?" she asked with a warm smile. Sander looked at his watch. Even though it was getting late, he knew that he could refuse the younger Puff. She should have the opportunity to see for herself how beautiful the night sky was outdoors and especially from the viewpoint up on the Tower Patch.
"Okay let's go," he told both Tessa and Lux as he followed behind them.
After a little time more of frustrated planet looking, Caelen decided that it was the location that was not helping. She had to go somewhere more open. And if that didn't work, then she'd go to sleep and try again the next night. Because she was not walking back down and up the steps. The redhead was small enough as it is.
But it wasn't like she was giving up on the giant telescope. She figured it deserved one more shot. Which she was now giving it by trying to move it again and reposition it. Because it wasn't like she had a life. That was actually not sarcasm.
It took her fifteen minutes to finally find Saturn, to which she actually stood up and clapped. She figured that if the others knew what she went through to find that stupid planet, they would agree and clap too.
After finding Saturn and making a note, she nibbled on a little dessert she packe but didn't eat and then packed that up too. She was just about ready to go. She just needed to make one more note in her book.
As she wrote, she wondered if Rockwell ever came up here. He said he did and etched something on one of the benches, but she doubted it because she didn't see anything of that sort. Caelen was so about to call her stupid brother on his lying. Or maybe she'd get even and tell her mom that Rockwell had a girl over. Just in case, she stayed a little longer and wrote another letter to her mom.

Ian decided he'd seen enough. He'd been at it a couple hours and his joints were hurting and his back felt like it was on fire from all the bending over and twisting for the drawings he was doing. He went about completing his spells and setting the telescope back in its stored position so that it would not be damaged. He rolled his parchment and placed it back in the satchel he'd carried everything in and then reached for his cane to begin shuffling back towards the common room. It was a painful start, but as he began to move, his body loosened up a bit. He'd have to see the healer soon if this didn't get any better.
Ana trudged up to the Observatory, ankle aching as she did so. She could feel the cold in her bones, which was strange for her. Despite having spent time recently in warmer climates she was Russian. She was used to a climate that could, quite often during the Winter, be described as freezing. The cold was what she rejoiced in. Now though it seeped into her and was worse at night. Especially now when she was dragging herself from her bed just to do Astronomy homework. Not that she'd be getting much sleep anyway. She was finding that near impossible.
Ana sighed in relief as she finally reached her destination and took a moment to catch her breath before going to the telescope. She hoped it would be easy to find what she needed. She didn't want to be up here for too long.
Looking through the telescope for the first time Ana had a little bit of trouble locating anything of significance. She was sure that she was looking at the right place to see what she wanted to see. Frowning she stepped back and pulled out her wand. It seemed she'd need magic for this little endeavour after all. "Lens focalis," Ana said, swishing and tapping her wand as she'd been taught. Hopefully that would make things easier.
Putting her wand away she stepped back up to the telescope to look through it. Much better. She let a satisfied grin form on her face as she quickly located the Andromeda Galaxy. Score!

Bart made his way up to the Astronomy tower and boy was it long. Why was the observatory so far up anyway? This was ridiculous he was so tired now and didn't even want to do his homework. Honestly why hadn't he found someone to do homework for him. As he finally got up there he looked around. The empty observatory was pretty creepy really. He half wondered if ghost were lurking around to jump out at any innocent student.
He dropped his book bag and headed to get a telescope, but got distracted in seeing the edge. He wanted to see how far down it was. Going towards it he looked over. That was so far down. Wow, it was amazing up here he thought to himself. Looking up he noticed all the stars. Good it was a clear night so hopefully it wouldn't be hard to find what he needed and head to bed.
Rubbing his bald head he wished he had a hat to keep it warm. He might have to go see the healer soon. This just wasn't right. Something had to be seriously wrong. Who was loving his beard but bald no way. Turning he decided he should get his telescope and start setting it up. Once it was up he looked around. What did he need again? What was he looking for?
Opening his book bag he pulled out notes, yes Bart had notes and scanned them to see what it was he was looking for. Speaking of looking where was Brynny.

She was just so tired and lackadaisical lately, not to mention she felt she looked so haggard every time she looked in the mirror. She was sure it was the stress of all the classes and homeworks - her mother never put so much pressure on her during her homeschool studies - and look what she was doing now... more homework!
Throwing her grey-streaked red hair into a loose bun and tossing her hood up over it, Brynn tossed her notebooks and what she thought might be the correct textbook into her school bag and left the common room. At least she didn't have to take a million flights of stairs, but it was still way on the other side of the seventh floor and then there were some stairs to climb to get into the astronomy tower after that. Sigh.
She dragged her tired little limbs up into the tower, then glanced around for her best friend. That was probably the only saving grace for doing homework right now was having a partner. She remembered fondly the last time they had done homework together, that was a blast but seemed like ages ago. Uh.. was that him? Brynn walked over to Bart and sort of dropped her bag lazily to the floor. "Hi," she greeted him, before sizing him up. "You're bald," she stated simply. Well.. that was certainly a look.

He was just about to pull out his book when he heard someone coming up behind him. Looking he saw a hoodied figure. Really he thought she still ha that dumb hood up. He figured she'd gotten over her awkward arm in COMC and had owled her mother by now. He glanced at her to see if he could tell if she owled her mum yet or not. Then she had to open her mouth, putting a hand over his head for a second he shrugged and pulled out his wand. "Hi and your err late." He pulled his eyes from her and placed them on the telescope doing the wand movement, "Lens Focalis"
Leaning down he looked into it. "That should help it focus so we can see whatever it is we are suppose to see." He glanced back at his best friend, "So why the hood all the time? Trying to be a dementor?" Could be possible he guessed. Leaning down he pulled out his book and opened it.
"Now Flamedude says we should be able to see the Milky Way and some planets. Any idea what they look like?" He had no clue other than pictures in books, but did the books really show what they really looked like. He assumed not.
Ana looked back up from the telescope, cracking her neck as she did so and shivering slightly in the cold night air. She wrapped her robes tighter around herself and hoped that she'd be able to go back to the Common Room soon. If she could get this done she'd be able to go sit by the fire and soak in the warmth.
Rubbing her tired eyes Ana leaned back in to look through the telescope. She played around with it a little bit, attempting to find the correct angle to look through. She ended up spotting Venus and Mercury, but still not her target of the Milky Way.
Grumbling in frustration Ana continued to move the telescope, perhaps handling it a bit more roughly than was necessary. In her frustration she almost completely missed seeing the Milky Way, having to adjust the telescope again after she moved past it. Her frustration melted away though when she was able to just stare at it. The heavens really were beautiful.
She spent a few moments just staring in wonder before moving away and writing down everything she'd seen on her piece of parchment. She would have moved over to a window to look out at the stars with her naked eye but another shiver racked her body and she was reminded that she needed to get back downstairs. Stargazing simply for the pleasure of doing so would have to wait until a night when she was dressed warmer.
Picking up her bits and bobs Ana carefully made her way back down the stairs, happy to be heading back to the warmth of her Common Room.

Was he looking at her again? Brynn frowned a bit as she eyed him back, shifting a little as she felt a little awkward. She was about to retort something but he looked away and focused more on his balding head. Which was totally weird. Was she late? She shrugged to this revelation, not really caring much.
She squinted as Bart cast some spell over the telescope. "Is that what we are supposed to do?" She really didn't know, having not bothered to look at the instructions before she got here. Brynn got down to sit on the floor and looked through her bag, pulling out her journal and book she had stuck in there. Looking at the book, she made a face. "This isn't the right book." How did she put her Divination book in her bag instead of Astronomy?
She looked up at Bart again at the question. "Oh.." she shrugged and pulled it back down to reveal her grey-streaked red hair pulled back in a loose bun. "It was for my hair.. but.." She shrugged again and gave Bart a pointed look. If he was walking around nearly bald, she guessed it didn't matter much if she was hiding her hair around him or not.
Milky Way and some planets.. mmk. Brynn nodded, then gave Bart a look. "You mean other than round?" Isn't that what planets were? She didn't know how they looked different from another way out here on planet Earth. And she didn't have the correct book anyway. But she supposed she'd at least better get on with it so she could get back to her dorm. She was in need of a nap all of a sudden. She started to get up from the floor, finding it a more difficult task than she would have thought. Holding out her hand, she said, "Help me up?"

He watched as his best friend took off her hood, "Whoa, I guess I know why you had that on." He nodded a bit, "Though it actually doesn't look bad on you." No the grey really didn't look that bad. Kind of cool actually. He rubbed his bald head a moment before turning back to the telescope and looking in. He raised it up and focused, "Alright so I'm looking for planets or something , right?" He pointed towards his book on the ground, but soon was hearing her speak again. Oh she needed help, turning he grabbed her hand and pulled her up.
Leaning down he stopped, "Owe, maybe back." After everything he did around here bending over was what hurt his back? That was really weird. He grabbed the book and forced himself up. "Alright we need to find these." He pointed to the pictures before looking into the telescope. Now to find something anything. He looked and looked in the sky. A bunch of stars, the moon, but was any of that what he needed to find?
He stopped for a second. Taking his eyes off the telescope and back to his book he squinted at the book not able to see it all that well. Putting it really far out he tried to see it better. "I think that I'm seeing the milky way." He looked back in the telescope. "Yep that sure is the milky way.. Right there." He pointed up and moved so Brynny could have a look.

Brynn just sort of looked at Bart as he assessed her hair. She wasn't sure why she cared anymore. It only seemed to be getting worse no matter what she did and it just seemed to take too much effort to even be bothered. Doesn't look bad? She started to make a face but then decided on a shrug. "I guess.." Maybe it looked okay, but she didn't really think so. At least hers wasn't falling out.
Planets or something? Brynn gave Bart an odd look, then allowed her gaze to follow his pointed finger to his book. "At least you brought the right book," she grumbled. She scooted over to where his book was then squinted at the text. Gosh, did she need glasses? "Um.. yeah, some planets and galaxies." Good thing there were pictures in his book, made it a whole lot easier.
She took his outstretched hand and got to her feet, then gave him a concerned look. "You alright?" It wasn't because he helped her up, right? She might feel bad. The mostly redhead took a look in his book as he pointed them out, trying to remember what they needed to see as he took his turn at the telescope. Soon her eyes lifted from the book, landing on Bart. "You can see it?"
She set the book down then walked over to the telescope, bending down a bit to place her eye where it needed to go. "Oh, neat!" she said, looking at all the stars sparkling against the darkened sky. She stared at the sight, taking it all in for a moment, then pulled her eyes away as she looked at Bart. "We should try for one of these planets now," she said, pointing at the pictures. She wasn't sure how to go about finding a particular one though.. just randomly point the telescope at the sky till you found one?

Bart watched as Brynny looked into the telescope. Would she see what he saw or would he be wrong. Not that he wasn't wrong before when it came to book things, but he really was hoping he was right. He hated to be wrong in front of people and rarely would admit when he was. A smiled crossed his face as she said neat and he knew she saw it. That was great! So he could know how to read these things. Glancing down at his book again. Why was it so hard to read. "Lumos" Well that really didn't do much to help the blurred text.
He glanced back up at Brynn when she said about finding planets. "Yeah we could do that." He was very hesitant in that by looking at his book trying to figure out how to find one. "How do we know when it's a planet?" Head scratches were seriously going on at the moment as he looked at his best friend. He handed the book towards her maybe she could figure it out. "Don't they just look like stars?" He looked up at the sky it was clear he could see stars, but to pick out the planets he was super lost.

Grace was kind of excited to see the stars. Astronomy was kind of interesting. Although the lessons hadn't ended too well. By the time she had gotten to the top of the astronomy tower Grace was soo tired. "Ughh." She sighed, leaning against the wall for a moment. She was getting so tired lately, and her back was really hurting. She didn't get it. Was her bag too heavy? Was she not sleeping enough? That was not good. After resting a little, the first year made her way into the room. Maybe she could get this over and done with so that she could go have a nap. That sounded like a very good idea.
She headed over to the cupboard, and got a telescope out, before she set it out. She was excited to see if she could find any stars. Or whatever they were supposed to be looking at. Pulling out her piece of parchment, she looked at what she was supposed to look at. "Milky way...okay." She pulled out her text book too, so that she knew what it looked like, before trying to find it in the sky.
Hmm. Maybe she should have gotten an older student to come help her, because she really wasn't too sure what she was supposed to be looking for. Which was kind of annoying. It looked kind of cloudy too. She frowned, looking through the telescope, still not being too sure what she was looking at. That was not good at all.

But we want to say. Before we drop the curtain. Nothing is for sure. Nothing is for certain
Lottie should've been here all along! Or carry her telescope with her to the grounds. Though, she preferred to stargaze without a telescope. Was that any weird, Airey Flamsteed? Was it?!
First things first: find the best spot that will get her the view she wanted, and a telescope later on. Got it. While she had wasted precious time in order to get here to the observatory and they didn't exactly have unlimited view from here... she couldn't see Serpens anymore, but the rest she'd drawn on the chart was still pretty much visible. And considering what she was oh-so-desperately wanting to find could still be found, then it mattered not if Serpens wasn't around.
Okay. Cassiopeia. Actually no, she was curious about something and now her telescope was showing Cygnus. A swish and a tap on the lens with 'Lens Focalis' and it was far better to check this out with the telescope, really, she was juuuuust moving a bit towards Lacerta, and... stop. Right in the middle. Between Lacerta and Cygnus. Why, there you are Messier 39! Now she could add it to her chart.
Who cares about M31, anyway? M39 seemed far more difficult to find.
Aaaaanyway. Back to Cassiopeia, then. Or not. Remember the planet? Mmmhmm. That's what she went looking for next. And honestly, there were two, it wasn't just one. So, without a doubt, those were Jupiter and Uranus. Even if she couldn't tell which one was which, but that was nothing her textbook couldn't tell her. Both the planets were added to the chart.
NOW, FINALLY, CASSIOPEIA.
Finally, the telescope was back to where it started, and the spell helped her gain better sight over that constellation, even if it was a galaxy what she'd be finding next.
Andromeda Galaxy. M31. Whatever you call it. Easier said than done, because after a good 10 minutes, and spotting all the stars Andromeda (the constellation) owned, AND getting some help from her textbook, she still couldn't find M31. It was nowhere to be seen and was clearly hiding from her, that was the logical explanation to this. After 15 more minutes, Andromeda (both the galaxy and constellation) had become the most unwanted group of stars and celestial objects in Lottie's mind. Certainly, it had to be up there, and it's not like it could be seen at different parts of the sky every single night. It was supposed to be seen between Cassiopeia and Andromeda (the constellation). ALWAYS.
After half an hour (or close to an hour), there was only one thing left to do. She straightened herself up and with a flick of her wand she sent the telescope to the open cupboard -nothing broke, which was a plus- and then left the observatory with her belongings.
Airey Flamsteed was getting a note from Lotus Wisteria, you bet.
