It's a known fact that fire and paper isn’t a good combination. The library has therefore always featured a sparse number of torches on the walls to minimize the danger to the books. On test this year the torches have been replaced by enchanted firefly lamps. A good number of stained glass windows grace the walls at regular intervals where the room is connected to the outside wall of the castle to ensure that adequate light comes in. Stretching from floor to ceiling these windows depict famous witches and wizards from history, important historical events and beautifully detailed magical creatures or at least that is what you should see.
Come sit down and relax in one the cushioned window seats. Read a book under the warm gaze of a healer or the roaring growl of a dragon. According to legend work gets completed faster if you sit in Rowena Ravenclaw’s window so why not try if there is any truth to it? The glass in the windows can’t be broken by spells or physical force but please be mindful and respectful of the beautiful artwork. Remember to keep your voice down since many people come to the library to study or get a moment or two of quiet.
Hey - he jumped! SUCCESS! Cosgrach laughed then, and made no attempt to do it quietly. And look how he glared around to spot the attacker - pure amusement!
Except, he wasn't angry at him, right? Because that would be bad. He didn't want Tobias to hate him. On the contrary, he wanted to have a good relationship with the boy because of Sophie and how the boy himself was pure positivity.
Although that 'you' and glared looked scary, Cosgrach wasn't one to despair. "Me." he answered, trying to match his tone, once his laughter subsided, and eyed the boy back. At worst, he'd just threaten him to either stop being angry with him or he'd deduct points. He wouldn't even hesitate if it came to that.
Oh Culloden, you little...
Almost instantly, Toby's glare changed to a grin. Culloden was a sneaky little Professor, yes he was.
Tobias made to stand up out of the windowseat, but then immediately changed his mind and pulled himself to his feet so that he was standing on it instead, because that way he wasn't shorter than Culloden anymore.
"How come you're going 'round scaring innocent teenagers, sir?" the Hufflepuff asked innocently.

...that way, Tobias was definitely taller than his 170-cm professor.
Cosgrach eyed the boy as he suddenly towered over him and wondered whether he would avenge himself. He didn't, not yet, but Cosgrach was eyeeeeing him.
He didn't trust innocent people.
"Who's scarin' innocen' boys? Me?" He looked hurt for a moment, but cracked a grin shortly afterwards. "You looked so grim I thought you needed to be drawn back to happy ol' world."

If Tobias could have done that neat trick where you raise just one of your eyebrows, he would have done it right there and then. As it was, he couldn't do that at all, and so raised BOTH of his eyebrows instead. But he was still grinning, 'cause Culloden totally got it.
But then, ahh. Toby found himself scrunching up his nose slightly. Yeah, he'd need to be more on the ball with that kind of stuff. Keeping a happy expression when in public, that is.
"Oh," he said, first slightly in surprise, but then looking super casual. "Nah, I'm always happy," Tobias stated, waving a hand like it was nothing. "Well... usually. No, no, always." Ahem, moving on. "I was just checking out the windows and stuff. And having a rest."
Ugh. Resting. SO MUCH RESTING. Old age sucked.

'always'? Cosgrach did what Tobias wished he could: he raised one eyebrow, then lowered it and lifted the other, then he switched between those two rapidly for a few times before he relaxed his forehead and nodded.
"That's nice. Glad you are always positive." He paused, then took a seat, still facing him.
Well? Any gossip? Exciting story? Anything? We're listening to you, Tobias Tempus.

What... what was Culloden doing with his face? Tobias watched with amusement at the funny eyebrow thing, even letting out a croaky, old aged chuckle. And when the Potions Master took a seat, Toby did too, back on the window seat he'd already occupied. They were on a level still this way, see? Literally.
Sooooooooo...
"Sooooooooo..."
Hm.
"What brings you up to the library? Thought you knew all there was to know about potions and stuff?" That was a compliment; in Toby's eyes, Culloden had reached the epitome of Potions Mastery. "Or did you just fancy looking at the pretty windows?"

Eheheh, he chuckled, so ALL was good here, yes? Toby was not angry with him?
Yeeeeeeees.
"So." Gossip?
Boring questions. Still - wait, they were actually a compliment! Cosgrach griiiinned like a little child, then, and shrugged.
"Oh y'know, the usual. I jus' came in to scare innocent teenagers." He grinned and after a moment, showed him the book he was reading: a muggle history book on the Medieval Ages.
"But I can always choose a nice chit-chat to reading."

His choice.
Toby was not angry with Culloden at all. Had, in fact, completely forgotten that he'd ever been even slightly ticked off with him. Whether it was part of his particular nature, or just part of being a boy, Tobias Tempus never held a grudge.
"I thought so," Toby nodded, with a kind of false smugness that was overly exaggerated, as a result of playing up the dramatics a bit. It seemed that the older Toby got, and the more comfortable he became around someone, the more he was able to exchange in innocent banter and gentle ribbing.
When Culloden held up the book, Tobias had to lean right forward to squint at the title of the book that the man held up. Eventually, he managed to see what it was about, and nodded.
"That's cool," he said, leaning back again, up against the window. "I'm dead awful at history, always have been. Could never sit still long enough to know what I was reading." Past tense, obviously, because he'd probably not have to study it for much longer in the future, what with the fact that they were all gonna die and all.
But chit-chat, eh? Toby could do that. Had technically already started, see? Although...
"Hey sir... what were you like at school?" It was a question out of nowhere, but something Tobias did sometimes catch himself wondering.

...was he being smug?
"Smugness off Hufflepuff!" Cosgrach exclaimed, looking too indignant. Hehe. Seriously, though, when did those learn to fake smugness? It was a Slytherin and maaaaaybe Ravenclaw trait.
That didn't surprise him. Not that Tobias was a boy to cause problem during his class, but he could see how history wasn't his subject. The use of past tense escaped the younger older man's attention, though, and he nodded as he put the book on the table behind him.
"Just two more years of it for you," he said in a cooing voice, "and if you just study enough to pass..." He was all safe!
...where did that come from?
His face darkened and he lost some of the good humour, but shrugged in the end. "I was terrible," he said, looking into Toby's eyes. He wasn't lecturing him at all, but he wanted him to know he was serious. "I made fun of everyone, barely studied, thought my family's money could bribe the professors, y'know, same ol' rich an' spoilt boy idiocy. Until fifth year. Then I collected myself and here I am now."
He didn't know if Toby had enough money to be spoilt, but he hoped not.
