It's a known fact that fire and paper isn’t a good combination. The library has therefore always featured a sparse number of torches on the walls to minimize the danger to the books. On test this year the torches have been replaced by enchanted firefly lamps. A good number of stained glass windows grace the walls at regular intervals where the room is connected to the outside wall of the castle to ensure that adequate light comes in. Stretching from floor to ceiling these windows depict famous witches and wizards from history, important historical events and beautifully detailed magical creatures or at least that is what you should see.
Come sit down and relax in one the cushioned window seats. Read a book under the warm gaze of a healer or the roaring growl of a dragon. According to legend work gets completed faster if you sit in Rowena Ravenclaw’s window so why not try if there is any truth to it? The glass in the windows can’t be broken by spells or physical force but please be mindful and respectful of the beautiful artwork. Remember to keep your voice down since many people come to the library to study or get a moment or two of quiet.
Ella jumped too, her own eyes widening at the man's reaction. This...was awkward. Yes. You'd think she'd be used to situations like this by now. Oh gosh.
"I um...Professor?" Her voice was quiet, not wanting to attract too much attention. "You were sleeping. Or...well, not sleeping." Finger quotes around that bit. "I just mean, I didn't see anything if you don't want me to have seen anything." Serious nodding there.
"I just didn't want to leave you sleeping like that in the library."
Professor? That was him. Cosgrach lifted his head heavily again, and eyed the girl with growing anger that happened when people were TAPPED out of sleep.
"See what?" Along with the anger grew the confusion, apparently, because he didn't even get what she was talking about. But he remembered everything else: he was in the library on his favourite seat, trying to believe in divination.
"Yeah, thanks." He didn't really mean that, though. He took a deep breath, swallowed his anger back, frowned and shook his head. He probably owed to the girl, but he was still too befuddled from the sleepiness to acknowledge it. He then eyed her again, and did that head movement when people see something they didn't recognise at once but upon a second look, they know it: he threw his head back a little, frowned, and blinked.
"Ella? Is that you?" She could, by now, tell that the Professor wasn't on his day and had been getting little sleep for the past few days.

He loathed it with all his being and he was giving it up to find a potion that would take its place without causing any dementia or confused mind, and so far he had always failed. The more sleepless nights he spent for it, the worse the potion got, and right there, after not recognising the Head Girl for over a minute, he decided to sleep more.
If only he could even GET close to inventing it!..
He shook his head again, resisted the urge to just go back to sleep, and calculated how rude he had been to her. Very, in his book. He couldn't understand how she still talked to him.

Knowing that Tessa had not thought of kissing Sander was a good thing, she supposed since it meant that she would not have to worry about them being gross around her anymore. Good. Good. Good. Feeling relieved about that issue, she suddenly thought of something else she had planned to discuss with her friend.
"So there is this plot me and my friend Ana want to do... We want to play a trick on Bay, because she is friend with him too." Leaning towards the other girl slightly, she knew that Tessa would be eager to be in on it.

Cosgrach listened to her, then waved his hand hurriedly to dismiss it. "No no, not that. What I mean is, a charm, a potion--something--to keep you awake sanely, that will enable you not to sleep." He looked at her hopelessly. THAT had been the cause of the bags under his eyes, and that made him silly. He sighed after a few seconds, and shrugged.
"Why don't you sit?" He moved a little to the side to allow her more space. "If you want to, of course. Don't just sit because I'm an authority figure." He eyed her to show he meant it. He didn't want to force her.

He nodded in the end. "I was the head boy ceeenturies ago," he said with a faint smile. It was hard to believe 23 years had passed. "It was hard back then, I'm sure it's harder now. People are meant to look at you. You'll like it after a while."He did, at least, and she'd struck him like a very responsible girl from the start. Maybe not from the immediate start, but she'd managed to impress him nevertheless.

Tessa felt a blush still on her cheeks in the aftermath of Lux's surprise question. It had been so out of the blue... but was there logic behind the girl's question? It was making her head hurt thinking about it all.
But, the conversation moved to a topic she was much more comfortable with. "Oh do you?" she asked, intrigued. She leaned in closer to listen to the girl's plans, her smile widening. "So, what does this plot entail- if you want me to join in that is," she added. If Lux wanted to do this on her own, she would respect that- after all, there shouldn't be too many cooks in one kitchen.

Excited about the prospect of sharing a prank with Tessa and Ana, Lux giggled. This was going to be so much fun! In a lowered voice so that no one else could hear, she told her friend what the plan was. "We want to disguise cucumber sandwiches as Russian foods so Bay can eat them." Gosh, it would be so funny to see that. "Ana is Russian I think, so Bay probably wants to try some of her culture's foods," she explained so that there would be no confusion over why it was supposed to be Russian food. "We obviously can't tell anyone, but Ana suggested you be in on it too because I told her you like pranks and you wouldn't tell anyone." She trusted Tessa, and knew that she would never give away secrets for a prank. "We want to give it to him in the kitchens and watch him eat it." She giggled again.

Bouncing in her chair as Tessa said she would totally be in on it (as if she had any doubt), she gave a little squeal. A prank with Ana and Tessa, two totally awesome people! Poor Bay would not even know what hit him!
"That is a great idea, Tessa and I knew I could trust you." As if Tessa would ever give up the chance to play a prank on Bay when they were all the greatest of friends, and they were practically adopted siblings of hers. "This is going to be so much fun!"

Ella was glad that the subject of sleeping, or actually, not sleeping had been dropped. She really didn't want to risk annoying the Professor further and knew her opinions on the matter would only make things worse so yeah, best to leave that topic be.
The blonde smiled a little at the news of Culloden having been head boy. She wasn't really surprised if she was being completely honest. He seemed ambitious and definitely smart. He'd probably done a good job. As for liking people looking at her, Ella shrugged. "I've never really enjoyed the spotlight. It makes me uncomfortable." And maybe it was that she didn't necessarily think she was a big deal but she wasn't going to elaborate on what she had said. "I guess if I end up making people proud, that'll be enough for me."

"Ohhh man if there were no books I think I would go crazy, like really" he said. A world with out books how would he read his western novels written by muggles. "Speaking of books….what kind is your favourite?" while trying to keep quite in this huge echoey library.

OH GOODNESS. LUX WAS SO EXCITED.
Bouncing in her chair as Tessa said she would totally be in on it (as if she had any doubt), she gave a little squeal. A prank with Ana and Tessa, two totally awesome people! Poor Bay would not even know what hit him!
"That is a great idea, Tessa and I knew I could trust you." As if Tessa would ever give up the chance to play a prank on Bay when they were all the greatest of friends, and they were practically adopted siblings of hers. "This is going to be so much fun!"
Tessa started to laugh, but the fact that they were in a library quickly quieted her giggles. However, she joined Lux in bouncing in her chair.
She grinned. "No problem Lux," she said with a grin. "I know you would do the same for me." She had already entrusted her with Sander's birthday scheme. Tessa made a mental note to come up with a prank for the two of them to perform together. She knew Lux would love it. She nodded in agreement. "I can't wait- when is it going to happen?" she asked, curious. They were doing so much brainstorming in these chairs...
Ella was glad that the subject of sleeping, or actually, not sleeping had been dropped. She really didn't want to risk annoying the Professor further and knew her opinions on the matter would only make things worse so yeah, best to leave that topic be.
The blonde smiled a little at the news of Culloden having been head boy. She wasn't really surprised if she was being completely honest. He seemed ambitious and definitely smart. He'd probably done a good job. As for liking people looking at her, Ella shrugged. "I've never really enjoyed the spotlight. It makes me uncomfortable." And maybe it was that she didn't necessarily think she was a big deal but she wasn't going to elaborate on what she had said. "I guess if I end up making people proud, that'll be enough for me."
Oh? Cosgrach was surprised, but come to think about it, it made sense too. She was one of those girls that worked hard 'behind the curtains'. He could see that she wouldn't like spotlight. It didn't mean it wasn't a shame, of course. Because she could be great.

Well that was nice of him to say. Ella smiled sheepishly and tried not to blush but she couldn't stop the slight pink hue that colored her cheeks. "Thank you, Professor." Really. It was nice to get positive feedback. Sometimes she needed it.
Ah yes, the future question. It felt like she was talking about this a lot lately. At least she had a better idea about where she was headed now that she'd talked to Hadley and Thompson. "I'm thinking I'll go to Uni, Sir. Study Magizoology." That seemed like the best plan as of now. "Maybe play quidditch on the side. Recreationally, of course."

Continuing to bounce in her seat, Lux made sure that she was still quiet enough that she would not disturb anyone or make the librarian come over. She did not want to bother anyone or get on the bad side of one of the Staff members when she was having so much fun at school and making so many friends. Besides the girl who had been rude to Lucas, Asher, and the gross girl who had kissed him, everyone had been so nice to her and she did not want to change that.
"Yeah, I will keep your secret, Tessa. I promise." She crossed her heart to show how serious she was even though she was trusted. Surprise parties were a big deal, and she knew that and would protect that secret if it was the last thing she did. "I was thinking we could do it before the Christmas holidays, but it's okay if we wait until after." Excitement made it hard, but she understood if there were scheduling issues. Besides, they still had to charm the food to fool Bay.

Tessa smothered a giggle as Lux joined in the bouncing. It was just too exciting, they couldn't keep it pent up that easily. She looked around them, hoping that they weren't disturbing anyone. However, the more they bounced, the more likely it was that it would end up that way.
"I know," she said with a grin. "Come on, why don't we head outside and start putting these plans into action," she suggested, standing up and extending her hand toward Lux. "I'm sure you and Ana will think of a perfect time," she agreed. And she would start thinking of a good time too. "Let me know what I can do to help," she said, as the two of them walked together toward the exit. "Ready for another flying lesson?" she asked with a grin.
