The Snakes sit under a brand new silver and green banner representing their house. Their solid, shiny wooden table is nicely polished with all the place settings perfectly set. The food will arrive after the Headmistress' traditional start-of-term speech. To all Slytherins, both new and old: welcome to Hogwarts!

WHOA.
Sophie was never on time. Well, she was always on time, just not---THIS much on time. She looked out over the Great Hall and saw a few staff members, and that was it. She didn't miss some important memo, did she?
As odd as she felt about being the one and only student in the Great Hall, she walked the length of the Slytherin house table and took a seat somewhere in the middle.
That was enough said. The three f's Fun.Food.Friends.
Asher Romalotti was back. This place had not changed since the very first time he was here. Nothing had changed, the house tables. Staff table were all just as he remembered. The smells of the food coming from the kitchens.
Yes, he could smell the food from here already. And boy did it smell so good. He couldn't wait to get a fork and spoon in each hand and food in his belly. Especially after that extra long train ride. Or it did seem longer. Not that he minded, he was in good company. Adeline.
Finally he made his way to the Slytherin table. There wasn't anyone that he knew or remembered there, yet. He slid into a seat about mid-way. He smiled and waved to the Hufflepuff table at Adeline. He mouthed the words see you later to her.
He turned to the staff table to see if he knew any of the professors. Just a few. He was even more excited about the lessons now. And even more ready for food.
Then he started to wonder if anyone would remember him including his housemates.

Time for the feast, Caleb's favorite part of the night! Ever since he'd started GROWING like a tree, he was always hungry. Like ALWAYS hungry. All he wanted was to just constantly have the means to eat whatever he pleased - roast beef, cakes, candies, potatoes, and everything else - whenever he wanted, not having to wait around or try and hunt down food. Why couldn't he just snap his fingers and get it?? Ugh. Stupid laws of transfiguration and whatever.
It was weird that Sophie was the only one at the table at the moment - that never happened. There were usually snakes all over the place! Weird. Giving her a head nod and smile as a greeting, he plopped down in a seat next to her and crossed his arms.
Ok food. Whenever you're ready.

Beverly was still nervous, but knowing she was in the best house made being a new student not so bad. When she arrived at the Slytherin table she froze again, but sat down nonetheless. Ugh. This meant more people were going to start dropping in. She was so awkward around people, but...Kennedy told her to be more sociable.

Apparently, Hogwarts believed in separating their students into groups, making them live in dorms (the latter of which he was prepared for, because where else would kids at a boarding school sleep?) and transporting them to the school on trains and then carriages. Neither of those last two were all that appealing to Brad, since he was used to cars, but they were the only way to the school, so hey, when in Rome, right?
Anyway, he had a little trouble finding the table of the group labeled 'Slytherin', but once he spotted the banner that helpfully had the name printed on it, he was good to go. Now to find a seat.......

ODD.
At least she wasn't a first year anymore.
When Cutty entered the great hall, he did so bearing an almost haughty sort of look, which I think meant that he was happy. It was rather an inspiring thing to have a castle full of ...Sophie Newell.
Passing his fellow second year he extended a hand and flicked some of the girls long brown locks. That was all. He hadn't forgotten how terribly instrumental she'd been in convincing that Bulgarian witch to give him a pig snout and matching ears. And he'd practiced that spell aaaalll summer long! He moved along the table, passing her twin searching for a seat, though seeming to know exactly where he'd sit.

"Caleb." He greeted using the boy's name as a form of salutation before perching himself near the head of the house table. A place from which he could observe as much of the scene in the great hall as possible including the staff table.
The staff table...Where was Professor Dursely??!! Cutty did not approve.

Yes. Okay. She was ready.
...
... How exactly do you do that?
Cutty had been watching the sorting action from his well-selected perch at the end of the Slytherin table. The same seat he had taken at the end-of-term feast earlier that year. He would've regarded the whole thing as an invitation to practice predation had he not met Cassia Somerlad the previous year. It was a great deal more beneficial to enlist than to hinder. At least, for her benefit.
"Hello." Was his clear and calm greeting. "Welcome to Slytherin house." Perhaps it was more creepy than inviting. Cutty would hardly know the difference. "Cutty Mordaunt." He said introducing himself and extending a hand towards the newest inductee to the house that Salazar built.

Train ride was actually good. And so was the ride to the castle. She was glad nothing had happened that ruined the good mood she got on the train with. No need to remember last year's. Although it wasn't really concerning her but she still was effected considering it affected her bestie. This time, though, all was good.
The sixth-year entered the great hall with a small smile on her lips. Let's not grin like kids. She got that out of her system in her reunion with West and Theo. Now she was all composed.
Cassia walked towards the Slytherin table, badge on her robes. As she stood at the edge of it, she half expected to see Ariana and Kat. But of course she didn't. Yeah, right. She tried not to feel sad telling herself they both were happy now and on with their lives.
Her eyes flickered from face to another recognizing a bunch. Cutty! And the Newells kids. "Hey, there, guys," she greeted the three of them. "Had a nice summer?" might as well talk with them since her friends weren't here yet. The seventh-year whom name she couldn't recall received a nod, as well.
And of course, there were new faces. The prefect watched as people came and sat down upon having just underwent the sorting ceremony. Wooot, for new snakes! One looked around her age and a girl who looked young. Second year? "Hi, welcome to Slytherin," she addressed the newbies [Brad, Beverly]. "I'm Cassia," 'cos introductions were important.
The blond seated herself midway across the table letting space on either her side. She wondered where the others were. She missed her dormmates.

Astrid eyed the Gryffindor table while walking towards her house's table. Slytherin. At least it looked kinda cool. GRYFFINDOR WAS COOLER. Did her Mama Hulk see her sorting? How about Bro Alec and Sissy Ells? They better have watched because it was important. It was only gonna happen once in her life and all so pretty much EVERYBODY should have watched.
But yeah, Slytherin table. Astrid slipped into an empty space and sat there quietly. Because #loner. Someone entertain her, please.

Tessa had decided to stretch her legs a bit, and was wandering around the hall. After all, this was her first time at the school, may as well get to know it a little bit. She was passing a rather green and silver table, Slither claw? Slither out? One of those names... when she saw a girl about her own age sitting there.
"Hey there," Tessa said, giving the girl a small wave. "I'm a new transfer, can you remind me what this house's name is? I can barely remember my own, much less the other three- or are there four more?" she sighed, shaking her head. After all the schools she had been to, it was hard to keep the number of houses straight.

Quiet. Awkward. What is awkward. Astrid sat still with nothing coming out of her mouth until someone came towards her. Oh well... sorry, don't know you! But it wouldn't hurt to make friends and stuff since she was new, right? There was still a lot of time before Summer came. Still so much time before the term ended.
Okay, back to the random person. HEY SHE WAS A TRANSFER TOO! Astrid was so relieved inside. Thank Merlin! "Uh... well, the name is Slytherin." That's what the Hat said and what her other friends said too so yeah. She probably got that right. "What house are you in?" She needed to know.

"Slytherin, got it," she said with a nod. Granted, who knows how long it would stay in her memory. She could remember Quidditch stats and players at the drop of the hat, but random things like school details? Perhaps she should get better at remembering that sort of thing...
"My house?" She paused a moment, trying to get the name right in her mind before saying it aloud. "Gryffindor?" she ventured, looking at the girl to see if there was any recognition in the name.

Theo had lost his friends during the train ride, which was totally intentional, of course, but now he was feeling a bit like a loner. Still, he made his way to the Great Hall with his uniform looking fresh and clean like it always did. His hair was a little messier than it was earlier, though, due to the weather outside, AND because his comb was tucked away inside his trunk. The hall looked the same as it did every year, or maybe Theo was too uninterested to notice any kind of change. There were a few new kids. He watched as Cassia introduced herself to a couple of them, being a good little prefect and stuff. Theo thought about joining in, he really did, but nah. Not today.
Instead, he sat himself near the front of the house table and put his elbow on the table so that he could rest his chin in his palm. And he watched people. He watched aaaaaaaall the people.

Ugh. Cutty Mordaunt. He didn't particularly approve of the boy, but he wasn't the worst thing about this school - after all, HE hadn't cast a toenail growing hex on him when his back was turned, like those stupid foreign kids. As far as kids at this school went, he wasn't all that bad. Still not his favorite person, but not the WORST person either.
"Hello Cutty. Good summer?" he asked, using as few words as possible to address the boy.

OOOH look at Cassie! She had a nice new BADGE! How awesome! Caleb had only talked to Cassie once or twice, but she was awfully nice and definitely one of the best choices for the badge. He grinned at the older girl.
"Hey Cass - congrats on the badge!" he said with a grin. Slytherin was always in such GOOD hands.
Speaking of, when would they find out who replaced his gran? Who was the new head of house? HE NEEDED TO KNOWWW!

The over-confident boy knew it and was even expecting it, but something about the sight of Cassia Somerlad there in her robes and badge did something to Cutty's little monkey heart. "Yeah! Did you?" He responded to her question about his summer.
"Nice badge, Prefect Somerlad." He said as if his heart wasn't racing at this the exciting confirmation of his plot to make Cassia the house prefect in a post-Hudson Slytherin House. He could hardly wait to explore the possibilities of anything this could mean, but mostly he couldn't wait to be the acting Al-Vizier of the lower classmen. He rather thought the position would suit him well and how could he be denied when it was he who implemented the whole thing.

Cutty had made of a list of things to do last year and this year was no different. One such item upon this list of things to do was:
*Kiss up to all-around charmer and dead handsome Slytherin prefect, Theo Kinsley
The boy was actually fairly observant for one his age, but actually had very, very little information on Theo, despite the older boy's status. Which meant, of course that Theo was probably likely to be quiet, shy, introverted, intensely private, & very sneaky or possibly all of the above.
"And how was your summer, Prefect Kinsley?" The boy's tone was one which suggested a RARE politeness for Cutty.

She was counseling herself internally as to how to approach someone. It all sounded so so lame. What? Just say "hi" and introduce herself then what? Beverly didn't have much time to think about it though, because a boy did just that.
Blinking over at him, she studied the boy for a second, and decided to ignore the creepiness. Yeah. Okay. It happened, yeah?
"Hi," she shook his hand firmly like she was taught to, "Beverly Wayne." NOW WHAT?
She fiddled with the beads of her bracelet.

Like somehow Caleb would be immature enough to respond with his summer activities and how they rocked out so much harder than his own. Maybe he would?
Go on, Cutty Mordaunt! You can have your dreams.

A slow, wide, but lippy sort of smile appeared across the boy's face. Beverly Wayne. He mentally repeated her name so as to commit it to memory. He eyed the girl playing with her beads. What could that be? Anxiousness, perhaps? Impatience, maybe?
"Is this your first time being on your own, Beverly? Away from your parents?" His accent had a lilting sort of quality with the ends of most of his sentences heading upwards on the musical scale whether they formed questions or not. Inside his mind he had already formed a plan to test wee Beverly for intelligence and resolve. By the time Cassia was ready to graduate it would be someone of about Beverly's age to take her place according to the school's history.

HOW DID HE KNOW?
Casting her gaze down, Beverly hoped it didn't show on her face that, yes, it was her first time being away from home and her father, and that she was REALLY nervous about it. The way Cutty spoke didn't help either, but she managed to raise her head and nod.

West headed toward the Slytherin table, because obviously it was the most important stop and he wasn't even the slightest bit inclined to visit anywhere or anyone else today. He'd changed into his uniform, badge showing, and his hair was still damp and slicked back. He started walking toward Theo of course, with the intention of sitting there but then...

He turned to the staff table to see if he knew any of the professors. Just a few. He was even more excited about the lessons now. And even more ready for food.
Then he started to wonder if anyone would remember him including his housemates.
ASHER. IT WAS ASHER.
West pretty much tackled him, bumping himself into the seat next to his former teammate.
"Hey! You're back! That is so awesome. How are you man?" Fist bump? Yes. He offered a fist bump.

After all, HE wasn't prefect yet, so did he really need to know the male prefect by name and face? Not necessarily. But it was probably a good idea to do so anyways.
"Hello! I'm Caleb. Second year," he said, smiling at the older prefect. Yes. He should be nice to the boy whose badge Caleb was hoping to inherit when he left.
There were quite a few people sat around him by now, but Theo's attention was more focused on the other tables as opposed to his own for some reason. So when some random kid introduced himself to him, he completely disregarded him at first. When the silence after his comment got longer, his eyes flickered to the side but he didn't move from his chin-holding position at all.
Oh.
He was talking to him.
"Hi?" Why was he introducing himself to him? "Good for you..." He muttered. Oh, oh, oh, oh. BADGE. He was wearing the badge. Theo cleared his throat and sat up straight. "Sorry, hi." Yes, with a bit more feeling this time. "I'm Theo."

"And how was your summer, Prefect Kinsley?" The boy's tone was one which suggested a RARE politeness for Cutty.

How did this guy know his name?
Theo blinked at the boy, of whom he definitely recognized, but didn't remember ever getting on a first name basis with. He didn't have the foggiest idea what this boy was called. "Uhhh... it was all right." As if he was going to go into details with a stranger. Well, he'd mention the good details of course.
"How was yours...." Theo paused for the longest time ever. "...... kid?"
GOOD MOVE.

Ooh fantastic! The sorting, that was. Amber had a smile on her face as she made her way to her new home among the Slytherins. Greeeen. She was DELIGHTED because she got to wear GREEEN all the time just like her hero and current obsession crush: Loki. Yay.
She was fairly certain that wasn't why the hat had put her here though..
She sat and looked around, spotting an older boy with a badge talking to a younger boy with a northern accent. She rubbed her nose nonchalantly as she watched them briefly before she returned to looking around. Amber had always enjoyed people watching... almost to the point of looking like a creeper at Durmstrang. --Ooh.. Tall TALL TALLL boy alert. Amber sort of gazed a bit--Wow :O--and then looked away because apparently it was rude to staaare. The boy looked like an elf. Like a majestic Tolkien elf, not the sort you got working in the school kitchens. Though she might have been staring for other reasons if he had looked like an overgrown Yoda.
Ooh dear.. sliiightly warm now.
Back to people watching she went wondering when they served dinner around here.

Okay.
She was a slytherin.
She had wanted Hufflepuff.
But it wasn't that bad.
No of course it wasn't.
Grace Paton smiled to herself as she wandered over to the Slytherin table. The only problem was that she didn't really know anybody. Hmm. Where to sit. Oooh. there was Amber. She first year grinned, sitting down next to her. "Loki." She murmured, grinning at her. At least she kind of had a friend in slytherin. Even if her best friends were in other houses.

Amber was too busy watching the older boys students to even notice Grace amble up and take the seat next to her. Hearing the name Loki though, she let out a laugh and turned to face her new friend, all beamy smiles. "THORRR!" Enthusiastic, stupid-attempt-at-sounding-like-a-man, greeting. She cleared her throat, because.. that hurt. .."You're a snake too!" She raised her hand to high five the other girl. Ah, she wasn't alone! This was GREAT!
"You're not too upset you're not a Hufflepuff, are you?" She didn't really look upset.. but some people didn't go around wearing their emotions like a clown. Amber certainly didn't.
ASHER. IT WAS ASHER.
West pretty much tackled him, bumping himself into the seat next to his former teammate.
"Hey! You're back! That is so awesome. How are you man?" Fist bump? Yes. He offered a fist bump.
Asher was just sitting there thinking, thinking about a lot of stuff. Food, mostly. Then he started thinking about why he didn't know any of the these Slytherins sitting with him at the table? Well They all looked pretty young. Maybe that was why.
Then he noticed a familiar face finally he thought to himself. The younger slytherin had already found a seat, he was going to give him a shout, but he looked busy and very popular at the moment. So he would wait to say hello he had all term, Right? right. Still no one else he Knew , yet.
Before he realized it he was being tackled. Yes tackled, By WEST. WEST HAD JUST TACKLED HIM! He chuckled rather loudly and grinned. Noticing a badge on the uniform of the Captain. Hey that said, Captain. Cool. He'd missed a lot in one term. "Yep, I'm back and here to stay." Yep, Yep. Fist bump? oh yeah. He took West up on the fist bump. "I'm doing great. What about you, Captain Odessa?" Raising an eyebrow. He was very proud of him, very.

Casting her gaze down, Beverly hoped it didn't show on her face that, yes, it was her first time being away from home and her father, and that she was REALLY nervous about it. The way Cutty spoke didn't help either, but she managed to raise her head and nod.
"Is it that obvious?" Or was he a seer? Having connections with a seer wouldn't be too bad of a thing. Especially during exams. So, was he??
Cutty shook his head, still wearing that over-confident smile. "No, actually. But you were playing with your bracelet and that could be a nervous habit. Also, you're not more than twelve, right? So it wasn't terribly likely that you had the chance to travel apart from your parents. Unless they happen to be divorced like mine are. I've been to places without them. Just got back from Canada." Cutty checked in his mind to register how this could've sounded. He was going for personable. "So are you loaded or what?" Was the boys random question as he strategically drew out a chocolate frog from his robes. When, oh when was that feast going to start?

GOOD MOVE.
The older boy had blinked as he weren't expecting anyone to address him. He seemed quite...surprised to Cutty. Good. He'd caught him unexpectedly.
"No complaints then, eh? That's good." Introverted, then? Yes, probably. What did Kinsley like to do besides play Quidditch? He'd have to find out...or not! Introverted types gave him challenge, even if Cutty himself hardly noticed in his arrogance. "Mine was ok. I missed the Wasps play, though." The wee stinger said with the shrug of a boy that was trying to make it seem less painful than it was.
