The Eagles sit under a brand new navy and bronze banner representing their house. Their solid, shiny wooden table is nicely polished with all the place settings perfectly set. The food will arrive after the Headmistress' traditional start-of-term speech. To all Ravenclaws, both new and old: welcome to Hogwarts!
Alex saw a young girl come over to the Ravenclaw table and sit down. She looked a bit overwhelmed, sort of like a deer caught in headlights. Remembering what it felt like to sit at this table for the first time. She approached the girl. " Hi, my name is Alex. Welcome to Ravenclaw! Are you excited for the start of the school year?". Alex hoped that her attempt to make the girl feel welcome and comfortable was working. She knew how scary it could be to be surrounded by new people.
Everything about Hogwarts thus far had been fairly overwhelming to the small girl and Brynn wasn't sure how much she liked this feeling. Especially without her best friend to help her out. Or really anyone at her table that she knew.. but where was Bart anyway? She took to scanning the table next to hers to see if he might be there when a voice at her side caused her to look up. Oh.. an older, teenage girl was talking.. to her?
Brynn gave a small, tentative smile to the older girl as she introduced herself as Alex. "Hi. My name's Brynn," she replied in turn, shyly. Her smile grew as the girl welcomed her into Ravenclaw. She really did seem happy that she was here, maybe things would be ok. "Um, I.. I guess," she answered to the question, not really sure how to answer. She supposed she was excited in a way, though nervous was a more prevalent feeling. The low rumble of her stomach signaled that she was very hungry. She hadn't had more than sugar quills and a chocolate frog on the train. The redhead looked up at Alex. "When do we get to eat?" She would probably know, looked like she had done this a few times.

Hm, she looked familiar. Brynn gave her a faint smile as she tried to think about if she really knew her or not and from where, when she spoke her name. OH. Yes.. she had met Mel before at the boring robe shop. "Oh, you're the turkey girl!" she exclaimed, excited that she finally placed her, before clapping her hand over her mouth as she realized that might have come off as a little rude. "I mean, hi Mel.. It's me, Brynn," she said with an apologetic smile, guessing that the other girl just didn't recognize her at first. "Remember.. from Wales?" She giggled a little bit at the joke they had laughed about earlier in the summer.
Oh, oops.. Brynn hoped she wasn't coming off as rude, but she just noticed Mel's outstretched hand so she took it to quickly shake. Even though they had already technically met, but it would be bad manners to leave her hanging like that. "So, you got Ravenclaw too?" From what Brynn remembered she was new to the area, she didn't even know she was going to Hogwarts too, so how neat it was that they would be in the same house. But.. did she say third year?

Yes Sander don't scare the girl after she's agreed to try out what you've just suggested. Yes this term was start to look good minute by minute.
....then he turned his attention back to Mel.
Sander laughed when Mel took him up on his challenge and linked her pinky with his.
Yes....she was definitely smiling more...and even her pouts were adorable too. She now sounded all excited. Swinging back and forth between it being great that they were both transfers and then he laughed even louder when she began protesting about her height.
He nodded in agreement. "No you're really not that short...not that short at all..." and then he saw that sad look again.
"Hey there is a good reason why certain people are taller than others. If we had everyone tall, then who would we have to crawl through those small important spaces. You know those secret hiding places? I know that I wouldn't be able to." Sander winked at her hoping that he actually made sense.
Come on Mel, don't stop smiling now.
Alex laughed at Sander's attempt to smooth over his words. "I can use all the help I can get,she said with a smile. "I will definitely be looking forward to skating soon, one way or the other. Let me know whenever you want to give it a try.". Alex hoped it would be sooner rather than later.

Brynn slowly wandered over to the Ravenclaw table after the talking hat directed her there. This was where she was meant to sit, right? Except she didn't know anyone and they all looked so much bigger than her. Her widened brown eyes took in all the faces present there before slipping into the first vacant seat.
So he hadn't been sorted into Ravenclaw. At least she didn't see him. Brynn looked up the length of the table then around the great big room for any sign of Bart. She knew he had to have been sorted before her, but where did he go? She wished she had paid better attention. The redhead turned back to her tablemates, hearing bits and pieces of conversation. So these were the ones she'd spend most of her school days with. Ravenclaw was her new house.
And.. there was a ghost there too. Wow. Brynn couldn't help but to stare.
Kace noticed the little girl. He remembered he met her somewhere. Wait was it somewhere in Diagon Alley. Yeah! It was at the arcade. Hopefully she remembered him.
"Hey do i know you from somewhere?" he asked the little girl. He swore he did.

Melek teased him and gently nudged him. She had a mini crush on the boy but she would deny it if anyone asked her. Her eyes lit up and sparkled in happiness as she beamed a big smile at him.
Kace liked Melek's energy. He approved of it. "Hey!" he greeted her back. "Yeah i know right? Here out of all places?" he said playing along. "How was the rest of your summer?" he asked her for a conversation starter.

"He is so sweet, Alex said. She handed Dusty back to Kace. "He makes me think about my cat. I had him with me at school for five years, then he got lost when I was on summer break. Now I'm pet-less. Do you think that maybe sometime I can visit Dusty, just to get my animal fix?"
Kace smiled and was glad Dusty was taking a liking to her. "Yeah they are not really harmless at all. I love him a lot. Even more than my pets at home." he said truthfully.
Kace took him back and put him in his pocket where he cuddled up and slept. Then he heard Alex's story and he frowned. Awww that was so sad. But he nodded when she asked if she could visit Dusty sometime. "Yeah of course! Dusty is a people's person. He would love company!" he said gesturing towards Alex.
Lana smiled. "Thank you, I like your name too. I've never a Melek before, so that makes you the number one Melek in my book." She liked this new 'claw. It was rare for her to take a liking to anyone so quickly, but Mel reminded herself of how she once was at that age. "Of course! If you need anything, feel free to come and see me," she beamed. This was definitely a first for her and it made her feel important again. "You know we can even study together if you want. There are study tables in our common room so we can meet up if you want." She was seriously going to study as much as she could with her NEWTs coming and there was a part of her that did always want to help their house win the House Cup.
Glancing back up to the staff table, Lana blinked as she saw the newest addition to the table. She hadn't noticed the large man before and blinked again.
Shaking her head, she looked back to Mel and nodded. "Oh, I understand completely. I skipped breakfast this morning and forgot to pack a snack for the train ride." She was in such a hurry, it had totally slipped her mind and then she didn't even visit the trolley once. Her stomach was not at all happy with her at the moment either.
Melek beamed and smiled at her. "Thanks and I doubt that many have... unless they are from Turkey..." She laughed and her smile grew even more. "Numer one Melek? Hmmm okay and I never met a Lana before so I guess that makes you Number one Lana in my book?" Mel gave a confused look and a nervous chuckle before nibbling on her thumbnail again, not sure what to say to the girl now. Melek was lecturing herself in her mind and a blush of embarrassment showed. Mel gave a small smile, "Yay! I will come and ask you if I need help." She nodded quickly. Her eyes grew as well as her smile, "Really? Oh we do? How wonderful! Yes! Lets study together sometime!" Her head nodded even more quickly and she practically was beaming the biggest smile a third year could beam, at that idea.
She tilted her head and made a face, "Oh really? I had breakfast and I ate candy and Im still hungry... I dont know why but..." Melek trailed off and held her stomach to emphasis her point. "So what is your favorite class?" Mel tilted her head and looked at her with a smile on her face. She was definitely liking this older girl. Today was a good day indeed. Melek couldnt wait to write all of it down in her journal! Oh and the letters to her parents! Mel was practically bouncing in her seat.

She beamed as she heard his laugh. Mel liked to see him laughing and smiling. Melek slowly took her pinky away after they got down with shaking them and smiled up at the boy. Is this how siblings act? Have I been missing out on this all my life? A pout started to form at that idea but she tried to quickly push it away and smile again at the boy.
Melek lit up when he agreed that she wasnt that short at all. "Yay!" Mel would have hug him but they were in public... and you dont hug or kiss or anything in public, nope, that was disgusting and showed that you have no manners at all. Her parents have raised her well in that regard. She settled for a huge smile and twinkling eyes.
Mel tilted her head and considered what he was saying. A smile came to her face and grew bigger and bigger the more she thought about it. "Yeah! The world needs short people!" Melek started to bounce in her seat. "The world cant get by without short people! Isnt it true that good things come in small packages as well?" She looked up at Sander, hoping that he would confirm that. Innocence was in her eyes as she searched his face.

She was about to withdraw her hand when Brynn took it and shook it but after the shaking was done, she clasped her hands together and placed them in her lap. "Yep! We are housemates!" Melek beamed at her, "Are you excited about being in Ravenclaw?" Mel tilted her head and looked at her.

♡ A heart full of Love l ☾ A night bright as Day l
Her blue eyes still glued to the sorting hat as she inched away from it. Her curiosity had certainly struck her & it would only continue to grow as the moments went by. The newly sorted Ravenclaw wanted to so desperately ask the hat what it meant by what it said to her, but judging by how many names the hat had to go through, she knew that now would not have been the best time to ask. It just didn't entirely make much sense by what it said when it told her that there something familiar in her, because her father went to Durmstrang. He wasn't a student at Hogwarts. It was something very strange to hear. But alas, maybe she'd get the opportunity to explore this soon?
....
Finally reaching her house table, she looked around at the very unfamiliar faces that surrounded her. Her eyes darting from person to person. Josette managed to find herself an available place for her to sit in, and so she did in a pretty hastened fashion. Once comfortable, the first year took a moment to look around the Great Hall around her. It was certainly very spectacular & grande! This hall was definitely going to be included in her letter to her father! Certainly he'd find it very impressive were he here!

Mel sighed and frowned, looking up at him with innocence. She nodded, "That is true... one can do a lot in a year... we must make everyday count!" Melek gave a sharp nod to confirm it. Mel held out her pinky and linked it with is, shaking it. "We shall make it the best and learn from each other!" A smile came back to her face as she looked up at him in happiness. "Yay for transfers!" A pout came to her lips and she crossed her arms, "You are not that much taller than me!" She knew that was a bit of a lie since Melek was only 4'11" at the moment. Mel knew that she was very short and she hated the fact. She was hoping to grow at least one more inch so that she can at least be 5 feet but she wanted to grow even more than that and maybe get 5'11" or something so that she would be tall but her mother was even shorter than her! Her mother was 4'6" so Mel was probably not going to grow much more than she already has which made her sad at the thought.
Melek looked at her, "I would hope not because if a person is disrespectful to a ghost, who knows what would happen... I mean any ghost in general, can go through solid objects so even a locked door wouldnt stop them and the grey lady is intelligent , obviously." Mel gestured around the Ravenclaw table. "So i bet if you make her mad enough, she can get paybacks and even if she wasnt doing the paybacks herself, I am sure that she could get Peeves to help make your life terrible." She gave a few nods and nibbled on her thumbnail. "I dont think it looks gothic at all... I think it just makes you look sick and just stupid." Melek looked at the girl's hand. "Raven? Hmmm that seems like a good name for a Ravenclaw, I guess... which reminds me why isnt the mascot for Ravenclaw a raven? I mean it would make more sense than the eagle." Mel sighed and took the girl's hand shaking it. "I am Melek but my friends call me Mel. I am a third year but I just transferred."
She watched the girl for a few moments and smiled at her. Melek nibbled on her thumbnail while watching the girl play with her hair at the table. Mel was silent until the girl talked again. She nodded and then beamed at the girl, "Really? High-five for home-schoolers!" Melek held her hand up for a high-five. Mel made a face, "Oh really? That doesnt seem nice at all." A frown showed up and she shook her head, "I am glad that i missed that...Im short too! I am only 4'10" I really hope I can go more... I hate being short..."" Melek kicked her feet under the table and watched the girl. Mel beamed, "Yay! I got a Ravenclaw friend!" Excitement showed on her face, "You think I am funny too?" Yep, this girl was awesome already. Melek nodded and looked at her, "I believe we should as well." Mel beamed as the girl said that she was glad that they were in the same house as well.
Melek looked up as someone talked to her She gave a smile, "Thanks... I am Melek or Mel." A smile grew as the girl mentioned food, "Thats good... I am kinda hungry, to be honest..." The girl gave a nervous laugh and looked at the older girl, "this is my first year at Hogwarts but Im in third year since I am a transfer... what about you?" Mel tilted her head and looked at the girl then gave a smile.
Melek smiled at the girl when the girl said hey back at her. She finished off what she was writing and looked back up at the girl, "I am Melek though some call me Mel... I am new here, transferring from being home-schooled... third year..." The girl bit her tongue then held out her hand to the older girl, "What about you?" She was trying to be friendly like her mother and father had told her to do but it was really hard when you were as nervous as her though after meeting some people at this table, her nerves were slowly going away which made her a bit happy. Mel grumbled as her stomach growled for food. Melek smacked her tummy and gave it a glare.
She gave a light smile, "Oh okay... just making sure before I make a fool of myself..." Melek nodded, "Yeah, sure." Mel sat down with her and then looked up at the older girl, "Lily? I like your name... It is pretty and my favorite flower too!" Mel gave the girl an innocent look, "Seventh year?" Her eyes were in awe, "I am only a third year, myself but I am Melek but people call me Mel for short... I transferred from being home-schooled..."

Kace smiled and loved people's impression when they first meet pygmy puffs. They weren't that bad. "I only got him this summer actually. So i have had him for about a month now..." he said snuggling next to him. "You can hold him if you want just keep your hands on him.." he cautioned her. He got him off his shoulder and motioned her to hold Dusty.

AH! A treehouse! Kace wished he could go there right now. "Well i hope we can hang out more this term..?" he asked Mika. "Plus Kaiden gave me a nickname little quidditch dude and i think it just stuck." he told Mika. Kace grinned to the guy Mika was introducing him too. He waved and nodded to give him attention. "Yup Hufflepuff third year."

She knew what she was talking about and at the same time she didn't have a clue. She fell silent lost in her thoughts not exactly where to go with the conversation. She had already covered just about everything with everyone else so she just listened in on the conversations going on around her.
The look Alex was giving her was a bit…strange, but she did have a feeling that Alex might have understood what had happened. She smiled over to her as she started speaking.
”Ah yeah completely interesting…and yeah, I think a nice warm bed is definitely called for” she chuckled and felt her cheeks flush somewhat as she glanced around the great hall for someone.
”Melek, that’s a cool name” Amelia piped up as she glanced over to the younger girl, as she mentioned food she felt her stomach grumble. ”Where did you go to school before Hogwarts?” she asked honestly.
She did however turn her attention momentarily to the red haired girl who had just made her way over to the table. ”Welcome to Ravenclaw!” she beamed at the younger girl. ”I’m Amelia or Mika, this ghost here is the wonderful Grey Lady, she’s pretty awesome and she’s Helena Ravenclaw,” she nodded smiling over to her. Introductions were needed sometimes.
And of course her attention had slipped back to the little Hufflepuff sitting next to her. Kace was a sweet little kid yeah? ”Little Quidditch dude, I’ve heard that one around – he gave me the nickname Miks,” she nodded over to him her cheeks tingeing a bit more as she spoke. ”And yeah we should hang out maybe I could give you advice…even though you are taller than me I think” she added with a laugh. Seriously she was shorter than a third year? Was this real?
And then her attention was snagged, again, by Hope. ”It can be over whelming at first, but you know what, we are a loyal bunch here in Ravenclaw” she admitted with a grin. ”If you ever need any help with anything come and find me, okay?” she grinned over to the girl.

Raven just nodded and didn't say anything as Melek explained to her why it would be a bad idea to imitate the Gray Lady. Probably was a lame idea to make yourself look pale when a ghost just arrived. "It was just bad timing" she answered with a shrug.
Then she got a little offended when Melek said she looked stupid and sick. "Excuse me Mel and not to seem rude, but my fashion is my own choice. What is it that makes me look sick? The paleness or the scarf? And how would you know what looks gothic or not? No offence or anything."
Then trying to pretend Mel hadn't just said that, she shook her hand. 'Pleasure to meet you Mel."

And just as she was talking about the Grey Lady with Mel, she came gliding over to talk. That was nice. "Thank you for welcoming me back. My name is Raven, which I guess is fitting since I'm in this house." Awkward pause. It was an old joke. "It's a pleasure to meet you Gray Lady."

Raven was temporarily distracted from the Gray Lady when a newly sorted Ravenclaw girl sat on the seat opposite to her. She was slightly surprised that she would be close to an older girl who was dressed in a gothic fashion (black scarf and pale skin). "Welcome to Ravenclaw first year. My name is Raven and it is a pleasure to meet you." Standard politeness

And then after Sander she noticed a young Ravenclaw girl.
Sander looked up when he heard his name or rather the nickname Mika had given him. He almost bust up laughing when he heard two pack being called. he just hoped that others wouldn't ask what it meant, because that would mean that he would have to show them that the nickname was four short of a full pack.
"Hey Mika...where are all your puffs? Are they still hiding in your hair? Yes I'm a Hufflepuff but I think that you should have been sorted into that house. You know...Hair full of Puffs...Hufflepuff....get it?" he grinned back at her.
Then he looked down when he saw Kace sitting at the table too.

Sander laughed and shook his head. "Nope I figured I needed a change of scenery. You know all that yellow is just too bright for my eyes. I met some people on the train that belong in this house, so decided to do some house visiting before dinner was served. Nice to see you here too," Sander returned the high five.
...and then he smiled even wider when Alex replied to his earlier comment.

"Somehow I don't think that you'll be needing any of my help at all. Believe me the moment I get the okay to skate on school grounds. You'll be the first to know, he grinned back at her.
He was definitely looking forward to being back on skates again and now he had a pretty partner to practice with.

Sander smiled when Mel began smiling again. He was glad that what he had told her made sense. Then she became excited at the thought that short people were also important.
He quickly nodded,"Yes it's true that good things come in small packages....and someone also once said that even the smallest person can change the course of the future. So don't ever forget that. You can also make a difference." Sander reminded Mel.

Her eyes were in awe, "I am only a third year, myself but I am Melek but people call me Mel for short... I transferred from being home-schooled..."
"You wouldn't be making a fool of yourself. Trust me... most of the ravenclaws are really laid back." Lily said with a wink. All the ravenclaws that Lily had met were friendly at the least. "Lilies are my favorite flower too, but that's probably because I'm partial." Who wouldn't be when you shared the same name. The seventh year smiled at the girl when the poor kid's eyes grew. "Nice to meet you, Mel. And welcome to Hogwarts." So the kid was homeschooled... "Are you ready for your classes?" Lily asked, curious as to whether the third year would be ready for Hogwarts level schooling.

Now that... was a scared firstie. Lily waved to the girl and gave her a big smile. "Welcome to Ravenclaw!! My name is Lily." The seventh year called out, remembering what it was like to be a first year who knew nobody. "What's your name?" The seventeen year old asked, sliding down to a seat near the young girl.

Although the more she thought about it, the more she wondered what it would be like to learn from a wizards perspective. "I would have to say potions would be the one I'm most eager for."
Lily laughed, hearing the firstie's idea. "Now that would be neat. Though you might end up getting lost faster that way." She could see it now... some firstie would be too focused on getting to class first that they wouldn't see the staircase change right out from their feet. "Muggle studies isn't bad. I thought I was muggleborn up until last term when I found out my dad is a squib, so I grew up around muggles too. So while it may be an easy class, there'll be some things you don't know... or never thought of." The seventeen year old said. "Potions is pretty neat too. Personally, my favorite is either flying or DADA." Lily said, glancing up at the staff table to make sure those two teachers were still the same as the previous term.

Lily smiled, hearing what the ravenclaw ghost had to say about the term. Hogwarts never did have a simple school term, did it? This year would be no different, especially seeing as how there was something causing chaos among the staff... and was that the groundskeeper? That man was huge!!
Next came the speech. New banners, good old silverware... yadda yadda. All Lily wanted to know was whether there would still be those dreaded turnstiles or even worse, the mischievous Durmstrang and Beaubaton's kids. But since neither of those questions were answered, Lily instead focused on the fact that there was food now... and once starting to feed herself, where the prefects for Ravenclaw were. Who was the new female prefect? Oh, and Elwood was still head of house, right?
Anna came over hesitantly, she thought she saw Mel over here, she hoped she was right. She wanted to see her best friend and though she was loving meeting all of the new people at her own table, she wanted to see someone she knew again. Well, she knew Kace, and kinda knew Dylan... but neither of them were Mel, and besides she wanted to tell Mel about one of her new friends... Or at least she hoped they were a new friend.

Melek spotted a girl that just got sorted into her house and smiled, "Hey, I am Melek or Mel." She held out her hand to the girl and beamed at the little one. Mel was feeling very talkative today apparently and have been meeting a lot of new people and even seeing a few that she met on the train or in Diagon Alley. Today was a great day and she was all the way beaming smiling at everyone. Her nervousness was starting to go away so she wasnt nibbling on her thumb as much.

Melek tilted her head and watched the girl for a bit of a time. "Hmmm, a ravenclaw with bad timing?" Mel tsked a little and looked at her, "Bad timing can lead to a lot of things like getting into trouble." Mel nibbled on her thumbnail and watched Raven. "I didnt say it wasnt your own choice... Anna instantly turned hearing Mel's voice, Mel!" She quickly went over to her and gave her a quick hug, knowing how little she liked them, but she wanted to at least give her one... She'd given both Kace and Dylan one, and she was no where near as close to them as she was with Melek, "I have so much to tell you!" She smiled, "All the people I've met already!" Especially the ones who knew, or in Romulus' case figured out, her secret and just smiled and let her know she wasn't going to be left out just for being different. Not to mention, at least in both Kace and Rom's cases, they were the same age and so sweet... But she looked back to her friend, "How's it been for you so far?"
Hope sighed. "Will you calm down." She could here the worry in the girls voice. This was the kind of person that kind of hit the bad side of her. Like, seriously, loosen up. "I'm sure you'll be fine. You were placed here for a reason. You just needed to stop stressing the small things and go with the flow."
She sighed and placed a hand on the girls shoulder in a friendly gesture that is extremely rare coming from Hope Evans. "Wisdom, cleverness, and wit. You must have some of it stored in you somewhere, otherwise you might have been put in a different house. The hat doesn't make mistakes." Gwen just got labeled as friend number two. She was going to save this girl from herself.
Gwen took surreptitious deep breath, willing herself to be calm. Hope was right. Gwen felt a little embarrassed. "Sorry," she apologized. "I'm calm. It's just all so weird to me."
Her words lifted Gwen's spirits a little. If it was true that the hat didn't make mistakes, Gwen must have some quality of this house. It just hadn't manifested yet. "Thanks, Hope," Gwen grinned. Wasn't there supposed to be food? She had been told this was a feast. "Do you have any siblings?" She asked. It would be best to move on from Gwen's mini freak out and make casual conversation.
Ah Miks. He nodded and smiled. "Yeah he has a way of coming up with nicknames. I mean i think mine stuck and i like it." He didn't mind the nickname at all. It described him well but he won't be little anymore.
Kace nodded at the idea of hanging out with Mika. "Yeah i think we need to! Yeah i will need advice while i go onto my years of Hogwarts and Well let's see if i am taller than you." he challenged her. He stood up from the table and went back to back. "Errghhh we need someone to determine who is the tallest."

Mel gave a confused look and a nervous chuckle before nibbling on her thumbnail again, not sure what to say to the girl now.
Lana nodded and listened to the younger 'claw. "It's still a pretty name. Very unique in its own right." That was another reason, why she did love her time here; there were always new people to meet. "Well, I'm not the only Lana in this castle for her. I believe there is a little Gryffie firstie by the same name," she replied with a smile as she motioned over to the Lion table. "You know, us 'claws have to stick together. We are family here in the castle, so never doubt that one of our own will help you whenever you need it." They did protect their own as Eagles after all. "We will plan on it. Who knows maybe our prefects will have organised study sessions in our common room," she added as an after thought. There had been mention of such things in the past if her memory served her correctly.
Lana nodded and shrugged. "I was running very late and I only made it to the station just in time to see my parents before boarding," she explained. Of course, she had planned on grabbing a full breakie with her parents; but that plan had gone through the window rather quickly. "My stomach acts the same way at times. The only time it like to behave before the opening feast is when I have a cauldron cake," she nodded. Oh how she did wish she had gotten one from the trolley.
Keeping her eye up at the staff table, she thought a moment. "I'm actually rather pleased with all my classes, but Arithmancy is something I really like. Along with Herbology and Care of Magical Creatures," she replied with a nod. Yes, those were the classes that she did really enjoy going to. Just as she mentioned the classes, something clicked in her mind. The Arithmancy seat was empty. Who was going to teach that lesson now?
Before she could even think more about it, the opening speech had began and ended. It was rather quick, short and to the point. She did enjoy that though. It was time for the feast!
"And now we eat," she smiled as she looked back to Mel. "Now may our stomach stop making so much noise for the rest of the eveining," she added as she raised her water goblet.

Ravenclaw. Ravenclaw. Ravenclaw.
Hayley was still wrapping her brain around this as she made her way toward the table of blue and bronze for the first time since she'd been sorted. The first table the small First year had gone to was Gryffindor, to see Chloe and hug her and talk for a tiny bit before she decide it was time to join her own housemates. But by then, Noel had been sorted as well (she had watched the whooooole time), and while Gracie skipped off to the Snakes, Hayley waited for Noel.
Then started toward the Ravenclaws.
"Isn't this so exciting, Noel?" Hayley was saying, as they neared the table and enough empty space for them both to sit together. "Are you sure you want to sit here with me?" Because if not, she would understand. And really, they could sit with the Hufflepuffs if he wanted.

Thank goodness dinner hadn't been served yet. A full tummy would not go well with all that bouncing around.
Wait...what did she just say. Sander's eyebrows went up questioningly. Not wanting to embarrass her by asking to repeat herself, he just relied on his memory of what he thought he had heard her say and then nodded.
He may not have figured it out but as long as she was still excited and happy, that was all that mattered to him.

Sander was so used to be asked that question as well that he answered by rote.
"Seventh Year. I first thought that I would not be able to meet any other students in my year, but I've actually met a few already. So being here at this feast wasn't a bad idea after all." Sander admitted to the younger boy.
Then he noticed Kace shaking his hand after he had high-fived him. He quickly apologized.
"Oh man I'm sorry about that. Did I hurt your hand? I keep forgetting that I need to be more careful about the amount of strength I use.
She gave a smile, "Well, thanks! It means Angel." Melek tilted her head, "Oh? Well, you are my first Lana." The girl smiled even more. Mel nodded, "I guess that is true... spending the time in the same common room..." She gave another nod. "That sounds delightful!" Melek beamed at the older girl, really excited about the idea of study sessions. "Oh, Im sorry to hear that." She frowned at the girl and then nodded, "Hmmmm a cauldron cake... nice choice." Melek beamed at her and laughed. "I hope I am pleased with all my classes as well..." Mel looked up at her new role model with a shy smile. She giggled and raised her water goblet, toasting the girl back before grabbing a bite to eat. Melek took a bite and spit it out onto her napkin, "YUCK!" Mel wrinkled her nose at the food that she had just tried, "Does all the food here taste so horrid?" A frown appeared and her tummy growled even more.

"Isn't this so exciting, Noel?" Hayley was saying, as they neared the table and enough empty space for them both to sit together. "Are you sure you want to sit here with me?" Because if not, she would understand. And really, they could sit with the Hufflepuffs if he wanted.
She watched a new person sit down at the Ravenclaw table and smiled, waving at the girl. "Hey! I am Melek or Mel." Mel extended her hand toward the girl, "Who are you?" Melek beamed at the girl and giggled, finally over her nerves.

Melek pouted when Sander just sat there quickly. She crossed her arms and looked up at him, expecting him to agree with her... or at least something. Her fingers tapped against her arms while she sat there waiting. Her face made an annoyance look and she started to decide whether or not to stop thinking of him as potential brother material as she sat there, waiting for his response.
Melek instantly pushed Anna away and made a face, "Get off! Get off! You know how I hate hugs in public." Mel glared at her best friend and crossed her arms. "Stop hugging me in public!" She snarled. "I have so much to tell you too!" Melek beamed, "I have talked and met so many people!" Mel bounced in her seat and beamed a big smile at her friend.
Anna frowned as her friend pushed her away. She sighed and looked at her, "Yeah, and it's annoying... It's just a way to say hello." And considering how rough her summer had been she was a little overdue for a hug from her best friend. She looked at her, "But you're over here." She sighed and showed the now yellow crest was placed, "So I'm guessing you're not part of the awesome house, as Kace likes to call it." She smiled and twisted a curl thinking of him, "Everyone's so understanding there, it's just amazing!"
Melek beamed as the other girl returned the high-five. She was starting to feel like they were going to be awesome best friends. Mel was totally glad that she was sent here. Melek was also starting to be happy that her best friend, Annaleecia, wasnt placed in Ravenclaw but that thought made her a little sad and made her feel a little mean. Mel shook her head then beamed up at the girl again. She was sure that Caelen and her were going to rock out the school.
Melek looked at her and nodded, "Okay, glad that you are okay with it." She smiled and laughed, "Pipsqueak? Hmmm I guess I am lucky that I am an only child." Mel sighed silently though, thinking about how much fun a sibling was even if the sibling would be younger than her. Melek had always wished for a sibling but the closest thing was her life-long best friend, Annaleecia, and that hardly counted as one since Annaleecia was forced to move to Russia instead of staying in Turkey with her. Annaleecia had a younger sister which made Melek a bit jealous, to be honest.
"Hmmm being short makes us cute? Okay,... I like that idea!" Mel beamed at her friend and laughed, "I never thought about it that way, to be honest." She looked under the table and wiggled her feet. Melek was having fun and didnt even notice that she stopped chewing on her thumbnail. Mel can already imagine how much fun they will have together... probably even more fun than with Annaleecia! Though after Annaleecia was sent away... being abandoned by her parents, Mel havent had much fun with her because Annaleecia had been all whiny lately and irritating.
Melek shrugged, "No clue but maybe muggle studies or care of magicial creatures." Mel smiled, "They both sound like fun... Im not looking forward to potions or charms though." She made a face at those classes then smiled again at her friend, "What about you?" Melek tilted her head and looked at her new friend.
Oh yeah. Caelen was already excited about this friendship. Especially because this was like the first girl best friend she had. She had only seen girl friendships in stupid eighties movies that she secretly loved. She was a walking contridiction.
Was Mel beaming? Because that would be ... soo cool! She felt really excited too. Because, well, what didn't they have in common? It was like finding an older and somehow shorter twin to hand aroung with, and it was really cool! If not a bit creepy.
And they were in the same house! Which meant that they really couldn't get into fights because they'd probably be seeing a lot of of each other. But that didn't mean Caelen was gonna cut down on the sass. As soon as she felt more comfortable around people, it always came out. Hopefully it didn't sound mean. Her aunt loved it, for one thing. So that had to be good.
Involintarily, she started thinking of her other best friend back home. Spencer. What would he think of her new friend? Would he like her? Would he like like her? And why did she care who he like liked? She was in charge of playing stupid board games and getting into fistfights with him when they didn't agree. Not patrolling who he like liked.
Okay, random mind warp aside....
The pipsqueak thing? Don't get her started. It had to be fun being an only child. She heard her uncle was, she asked one day when she was young. He always said it was lonely. And sometimes you get bored. But that didn't make much sense. Sure, there's boredom, but at least you're not always around the same person. Half the time she and Rockwell loved each other, the other half they wanted to kick each other in the face.
But she was curious. Was being an only child fun?
"Well, what's it like being an only child? Like, you're alone sometimes, but at least you're not around someone twenty-four seven whom you sometimes wanna bop." She made a little punchy motion at bop, pretending she was giving him the old one, two. She had no idea what that meant, but she had recently watched this old fighting movie which said that.
"And like, what do you do for playmates?" She felt lame saying the word playmate, but it was a serious question. Did only children play with themselves? How big was her imagination? Ohh, Caelen was now really excited! She loved people who could think up things quickly and act on it.
And yes, being short made them cute! How else would you explain it? Okay, so she wasn't that vain, but it was a funny way of looking at it. She laughed at Mel's foot wriggling and smiled when she noticed something. The older girl wasn't biting her thumb. Had she successfully stopped a habit? Was she not nervous any more? Yay! She was actually having so much fun here. Her worries were all for nothing.
N-no potions? But potions was one of her favorite things! She loved sitting on her bed and watching her brother make them! They were like a puzzle to her, something you had to put together to make a final result. And she loved puzzles. But CoMC sounded nice too. She wanted to see all of the magical creatures and learn how not to ruin their day. And Muggle Studies? She was half Muggle, so it wasn't like she was going to fail.
"I love potions! But I am looking forward to Care of Magical Creatures and possibly charms. I kind of don't know what charms is to be honest. Is that weird?" Why didn't she know much what Charms were? Because it never interested her. She would read the old textbooks and be interested in everything else, but Charms lost her interest quickly. It was a weird preference, but a preference.

Now that Annie had given her speech Callie was on her way to the Ravenclaw table to speak with her Eagles--after shoveling a few bites of mashed potatoes into her mouth. She had been starving after all.
Now that she was here though she walked to the most concentrated area of the table so that they could all here her. "Welcome and welcome back my little Eagles, oh and the Grey Lady. I'm so very excited to see you all tonight! I am Professor Elwood for those of you who are new and I am the Divination Professor and Ravenclaw's Head of House." Elwood basically chirped, clapping her hands together and causing the usual jingle of silver bangles up and down each of her wrists. "I'd like to just remind everyone that class schedules and maps for the new students will be handed out at breakfast tomorrow morning and that once Headmistress Truebridge dismisses you tonight, to follow your Prefects to the Common Room in Ravenclaw Tower." Right the formalities were finished.
"Mostly I wanted to come and let you know how excited I am for this term. I know that with the help of each and every one of you as well as our house Prefects Mr. Barrington and Miss Miroslava, Isadora where are you?" Callie looked around for the brunette girl. "Hmm, wherever she is, as well as our Quidditch Captain Mr. Branxton we will hopefully grab at least one Cup or championship this term." Someone seriously needed to beat the Hufflepuffs and the blonde would love for it to be her house. "Remember to study hard, follow the rules but also have fun. If you ever need anything my office is in the Divination Tower and I will make a point to visit the Common Room every now and then as well. Have a great Feast!" She smiled brightly and gave them a quick round of applause because, well they deserved it.
She did however stick around for a second to see if any of them wanted to chit chat or had any questions.
"Oh yeah, it is. M'favorite place in the world by far. I think a lot of its appeal comes from the people here, too, though, not just the fun things to see around the castle. Find yourself a solid friend group and you'll be set. What really makes this place special is the friends and memories you'll make here," Sophie lowered her voice and leaned in toward Hope at that last bit, not wanting Mo and Cat to hear. It was fine advice, but it felt like a vulnerable statement, especially when the two friends who had made her first year so great were sitting right next to her.
As for her favorite place, she thought of numerous places but managed to think of one that was favorite-worthy. "How 'bout I show you later? Remind me later this week and I'll take you there. S'better, probably, to experience it first-hand than hear about it. It'll be cooler that way."
"Sure you will. No reason you shouldn't. Unless the rumors are wrong, both the Head Girl and Head Boy are Hufflepuffs and two of the nicest people I've ever known. Don't be hesitant to talk to 'em because of their badges. They're the least threatening people at this school - don't tell 'em I said this, but I'd be surprised to see them lay down the law to any troublemakers. They're both big ol' softies." She had never seen either of them mad or yell at anyone. Now that she was thinking about it, she wasn't entirely sure why they were the head school leaders. Could they scold kids and take points away guiltlessly? They were good leaders and role models in the sense of their personalities, but as for keeping people in line? Questionable.
Sophie actually laughed a bit at Leah's question. "Well it's not exactly a secret location. We're not allowed into each other's common rooms, but it's hard to miss the hoards of Hufflepuffs going to and coming from the kitchen area every day." She had explored the area down there, too, and knew all about the barrels, but figured she'd let the girl find out about that bit on her own. It would be wrong of Sophie to ruin all the magic.
...Hm?
Sophie didn't register what the Grey Lady had said until quite a few moments after she spoke. Oh. Well. She swallowed quickly, calculating her words carefully and tried to speak in the most polite tone possible, "Thank you for your advice. And..." She probably shouldn't have let herself continue, but she needed to defend herself, "no disrespect meant at all, ma'am, but it's not particularly my goal to be lady-like. I'm just gonna be me, if that's okay? Be a kid while I can? My manners can be kind of selective - really, normally I think I'd be a bit better about it - I was raised well, I promise - but right now I'm with my family who I've missed and feel comfortable around 'em. Why put on a facade for people who'll love and accept me anyway?" Legitimate question. "Plus, you haven't tasted Cat's cookies. They're definitely shove-in-your-mouth worthy."
...Still, after she was done explaining her side, Sophie did dab at her mouth with her napkin. See? She could be good and proper.
Hey, listen here - Sophie thought it was funny to make other people get all squirmy and blushy over cheesy stuff and compliments, but she did not enjoy being put in that kind of vulnerable position. Especially not when tears threatened to be a factor. And right now, with Cat's wonderfully comforting comment, it tugged at Sophie's heartstrings and tear ducts too much for her liking. But... it was nice. "Always? Y'promise?" She tried to sound casual in her questioning, but it came out smaller and weaker than she meant it to.
And then she took a large bite of a cookie to diffuse her own discomfort.
Shooting a glance down the table at the house ghost, Sophie lowered her voice in case she had super sonic hearing and spoke through a mouthful, "Not so sure I should. I still have two more and I think the Grey Lady's gonna keep judging my eating habits."
Text Cut: Mo & Cat
Was he serious? Sophie gave Mo an incredulous look for a long moment before Cat spoke up. Smirking, the second year gave Mo a nudge and told him, "I'm gonna hold you to that, Marcus Branxton. Don't run off to your dorm and hide out, you've got hair to braid. Will you let me return the favor?" Her grin broadened and she reached up to tug at his hair a bit, checking the length. "I could work with this. Wouldn't he look cute, Cat?"
Hmmm. Mo was kind of right. There was Hope and... maybe only two other new first years at the table? Both girls. Where were all the smartypants boys? "That's a scary thought." And it was. "Seems like the other houses have plenty more new sortees. These people don't know what they're missing. More of Cat's cookies for us, though." So there were perks.
Night time was definitely the preferred time to deliver packages. On his way back he was probably going to hunt down a midnight snack. But not until this was delivered. Herjenmie was a GOOD owl, yes he was. He would bring the girl person her package first.
He flew this way and then that way looking for her and then he spotted her among all those other boy and girl peoples. "Hooo." Herj zig-zagged his way through the air over to her and then set the package down in front of her.
"Hooooo."
And then he was off, flying out of there to start his hunting for his flight back home.
SPOILER!!: delivery!

Haruka quietly wandered around the Great Hall, going unnoticed by most of the people around her, looking for a less crowded area. She saw a relatively sparse area at the Ravenclaw table and figured that would be a good spot.
That's when she realized that she'd probably need a reason to go over there, though. It'd probably seem a bit strange for a Hufflepuff to randomly sit down at the Ravenclaw table.
She spotted a girl around her age sitting in the area. Her father had asked her to try to make some friends and, even though she wasn't particularly good at it, decided that now seemed as good a time as any. She took a deep breath and approached the girl.
"Hi," she said to get her attention. "Is it okay if I sit here? It's getting a bit too crowded for me over at the Hufflepuff table." She quickly added, "I'm Haruka, by the way."
sander looked up when he heard his name or rather the nickname mika had given him.
He was definitely looking forward to being back on skates again and now he had a pretty partner to practice with.
sander smiled when mel began smiling again.

Today was a great day and she was all the way beaming smiling at everyone. Her nervousness was starting to go away so she wasnt nibbling on her thumb as much.
she beamed, "thanks! I like your name as well." mel tilted her head, "i was homeschooled by my parents... My father taught me the magical part and my mother the muggle part." melek giggled and looked at the girl, "have you always gone to hogwarts?" there were a lot of transfers here it seems but there seemed to be a lot of all-timers as well.
melek tilted her head and watched the girl for a bit of a time. "hmmm, a ravenclaw with bad timing?" mel tsked a little and looked at her, "bad timing can lead to a lot of things like getting into trouble." mel nibbled on her thumbnail and watched raven. "i didnt say it wasnt your own choice... I was just saying my opinion." she shrugged, "the paleness... The scarf isnt that bad, to be honest... But why make yourself look pale? It is such a silly ritual." melek looked at her and shrugged, "i dont know anything about what you call "gothic" but i do know something about the time period that is called gothic." mel made sure to emphasize certain words in that sentence the gave a smile, "pleasure to meet you as well, raven." melek withdrew her hand after getting it shook.
she beamed as he nodded and confirmed what she had said. "i thought i remembered the saying correctly but i wanted to make sure." mel giggled and smiled at him. Melek listened to what he had said and beamed in happiness, still bouncing. She was happy at what he had said and it showed in the excitement in her eyes and voice. "yay!ireallywanttomakeadifferenceintheworld!thanky ou!thankyou!thankyou!" mel giggled and didnt really realize that she had said that bit really fast and that sander might not understand.
she beamed in relief, "i am glad that i wouldnt be making a fool of myself and that ravenclaws are really laid back." melek saw the wink and tilted her head, confused at what the wink had ment. "oh they are?" mel squealed and beamed at her, "i am so glad that they are!" she giggled at the partial comment. "nice to meet you as well, lily and thanks! I like hogwarts already! Everyone seems so nice and i already made a few new friends." she beamed, showing off all of her teeth. Mel nodded rapidly, "yes! I cant wait! I am so looking forward to muggle studies and care of magicial creatures though i rather do without potions." melek made a tiny disgusted face at the mentions of potions. "what is your favorite class?"
she beamed as she saw her friend, "anna!!!!" mel waved her over. Melek had so much to tell her best friend. She was bursting with excitement though mel probably was going to take out the whole 'thinking of a girl as her new bestest best friend and replacing anna in that spot' thing because she wasnt too sure if she wanted to replace anna in that spot. Melek had to give some serious thought to bumping anna from bestest best friend to just best friend before telling her bestest friend. Mel patted the spot next to her, "come sit with me for a few moments!" she beamed at anna.

"nooo i am not a ravenclaw." he said pointing to his crest on his robes. He was a puff through and through. "oh mine was great! I had a lot of fun! Remember when we saw each other in diagon alley?" he asked melek.
He agreed with sander completely. "yeah sometimes it is nice to meet people from other houses." he said shaking his hand from the pain. Man this guy could sure high five. "oh and what year are you in again?" he asked him curiously. He forgot to ask him that.

“Hey” she pointed her finger at the guy and tried not to laugh.
“Oh homeschooled cool!” She smiled over to the girl, “I’ve been here for all my terms actually, but my sister India was homeschooled for a term before coming here – after she burnt down the potions lab at the school in Australia” she laughed and smiled to the girl. “Well, welcome to the nest then” she beamed at her.
And then it was Kace, sweet Kace. He was an adorable kid wasn’t he?
“Yeah he does doesn’t he?” She asked smiling over to the kid in question. Right she had that dare to do. And standing up from the table she turned around so that she could be back-to-back with the little Puff. Little, he was almost taller than her.
”MO! Someone! See if this kids taller than me please?” she asked over as loudly as possible. And she’d do the love dare later. Who would her victim be? Or would she be honest. Honest could hurt.
Turning she saw the little girl Hayley walking over to the Ravenclaw table. ”Congratulations!” she called over and still needed someone to measure her itty bitty height.

Solid group of friends. She cringed just a bit at the idea, but at the same time she seemed to be interacting just fine around this group. Maybe it was because she knew she was around like minded people. Hope nodded slowly. "Make friends. Guess that'll be the first thing on my to do list next to find classrooms and explore the castle." If no one bumped into her then there wouldn't be a problem.
She beamed. "I'll hold you to that because as much fun as it sounds, I'd feel a little better knowing I'm with someone who would know how to get me back to the common room." Sophie was now labeled as friend number one.
The girl's reaction was confusing - did she think it'd be hard to make friends? "You seem to be doing a good job of that already. You've got one in me, at least." Sophie offered an encouraging smile and knew Hope would be just fine. She'd already gotten along with plenty of other Ravenclaws at the table who had struck up a conversation with her. No reason for her to fret.
"Sounds good to me! And... to soothe your worries? Even though it's on the seventh floor, it's pretty easy to find - it's just climbing all the flights of stairs that take some getting used to." Sophie herself didn't stop feeling sore or exhausted from it till right before the holiday break last year.

The napkin was a wise move, the ghost's face softened at that.
They should have a manner teaching lessons in Hogwarts. Back when she was alive, girls were brought up to be proper ladies.
"We'll work on a few things in time." She answered finally, obviously insisting on the subject.
..."Indeed." Her reply was overly proper and in jest, but her flat tone probably didn't let it come off that way too well. Sophie forced a sweet smile at the ghost, though, and gave a nod, "I look forward to that. Thank you for your interest in my well-being."
But no thanks and could you try not to embarrass me in front of my friends again thanks????

Elwood was a hoot. Sophie liked her. Shame she wasn't taking Divination for another year, but she was hopeful Elwood would be around for a long, long time. She seemed like she'd be quite the insightful professor. A bit zany sometimes, perhaps, but interesting all the same. Joining in with the applause led by the woman herself, Sophie started to pile food onto her own plate and gave Mo a nudge. "You should give a speech, too. That'd be cute." She was only just teasing his badge and leadership position and fully did not expect him to do it, but it WOULD have been cute if he decided to, obviously.

While she was eating, Sophie noticed the owl entering the Great Hall and thought it was funny - who was the kid with the parent who couldn't wait more than twenty-four hours to send them something? - but didn't mind it too much until it was within a few feet. And set a package right beside her plate.
...Okay. Quick. Her mum knew better than to send her anything. Her dad... probably wasn't as clued into how embarrassing that was during the opening feast, even though he SHOULD know better and it wasn't HIS owl... but it must've been him, she figured. What was so important that it couldn't wait? NORMALLY Sophie would have been smart and taken any packages up to the dorm to open so no one would target her as someone to steal from, but this was... too weird. Too out of place, and she NEEDED to know what was inside. So, pushing her plate forward and making a little room in the space between her food and herself, Sophie tore the package open.
She stared for a moment before laying the jars out in front of her and, seemingly in slow motion, Sophie's face lit up and her cheeks went pink. Ira. The famous Ira BANNER. HE SENT STUFF TO HER. LIKE THEY WERE FRIENDS OR SOMETHING. WAS SHE FRIENDS WITH IRA BANNER? DID HE REALLY LIKE HER FLOWERS AND LETTER THAT MUCH? Sophie knew it must've meant a lot to him if he had gone through so much trouble when normally it seemed like he didn't care about ANYTHING in the world except for wands! Uncharacteristically giddy giggles escaped her lips as she melted into Mo's side and rested her head on his shoulder, curiously unfolding the pieces of parchment included, her grin broadening as she realized what it was.
She was the luckiest kid in the whole WORLD. WHAT A COOL GUY. WANDS. IRA BANNER.WANDLORE. SHE WAS IN HEAVEN.
Sophie subconsciously slipped her Hermione!wand from its holster and gave it a nice, long hug to her chest as she read on, the delighted smile still dancing upon her lips, food forgotten forever.
