Default Potions 2

The class is more or less the same with the proper chairs with soft cushions to sit and lean back on, and they are still are charmed to take the most comfortable shape and height once a student is seated. The walls are still a soft, calming blue. There are just two additions: one big, grey rubbish bin by the door and a white, porcelain washbasin with a tap for those who wants to wash their hands before/after the class and who can't perform 'Aguamenti' charm (a short hose to direct the water to the cauldron is on the white, porcelain shelf hung on the wall, in case it doesn't fit the washbasin).

Professor Culloden opens the door 15 minutes before the class time and sits at his desk to wait for the students to arrive--he looks stressed this time, though. Why would that be?

OOC: If you are going to RP your characer use the washbasin or the washbasin, you don't have to take Cosgrach's permission. Just assume he has granted it.

Come in, take your seats! The class will resume approximately 10 hours later. You may chat among yourselves, but please don't go overboard with it. Thanks! The lesson has started, so please do not post your character arriving late! Just RP as if they have been there all along.

Potion progress
• One bubotuber’s pus
• 0,2 litre of seal milk
• One hellebore’s syrup
• Two puffer-fish eyes
• One leech
• One water-dwelling planaria
• One middle-sized pomegranate’s juice
• A bunch of asphodel
• 6 sopophorus beans

1. To be prepared beforehand: Add some water to a glass bowl, wear your gloves and squeeze bubotuber’s pus into it. Put it away, get pestle and mortar and crush asphodel roots. Put that away for future use too.
2. Add 0,2 litre of seal milk to your cauldron. Turn the heater to high for a minute, then lower to medium.
3. Add hellebore syrup, make a small cut at the back of the puffer-fish eyes and squish them to the cauldron. Add ONLY their liquid and vanish the eyes themselves or dispose of them in the rubbish bin.
4. Stir 3 times counter clock wise with a wooden stirrer and lower the heater to minimum.
5. Add bubotuber pus. Stir 3 times counter clock wise and 3 times clock wise with wooden stirrer.
6. Add one leech. Count to ten and add water-dwelling planaria.
7. Up until this moment, the potion should have been milky white. Wave your wand horizontally and continuously at a medium pace, starting from left to right, until it turns sparkling purple.
8. Add pomegranate juice. Wait until the potion is lime green and add the asphodel roots.
9. Crush sopophorous beans in mortar and add their juice.
10. Stir 5 times counter clockwise and turn off the heater. Wait for a few minutes until it precipitates (the solid part seperates from the liquid and sink to the bottom. The solid part's colour should be sparkling, light pink and liquid, still lime green. Afterwards, either wait until the liquid part evaporates or pour it down the washbasin.
11. Apply on bare skin.

Notes
  • The skin will be smooth like a baby's for three or four weeks (depending on the skin), but they will reappear suddenly after the potion wears off.
  • It may be used as many times as you want, because it doesn’t have any known side effects.
  • It may be used on animals too, but it kills plants.

Discussion: The term 'beautiful' and the necessity of beautifying products

OOC: It won't affect the class points. You are welcome to join even if you didn't participate in the brewing. ^____^

Next step?

Stirring and then lowering the heat. Sounded simple enough, yeah? A lot simpler than the squeezing eyes step or anything that involved eggs. "Scourgify," There. Clean wooden stirrer was clean. He placed it into his potion and stirred. One... two... three times clockwise. Once he was done, he set the wooden stirrer down to one side. That... can be cleaned later.

What was next? Grey-blue eyes glanced up at the board. Turn the heat down and he was done with that step? The heat was turned right down to its minimum before Alec, smiling, started scribbling things down in his journal.

Scribble... scribble... scribble...

A tricky step sounded promising. Lex liked to think there was a challenge involved in something and glanced to the eyes as they were mentioned. There wasn't a chance she'd ruin her eyes.

The Prefect reached for the hellebore syrup and added it as instructed before getting to what was meant to be the 'tricky' part. In her head she'd already done it and gotten it over with, now it was just a matter carrying it out in actuality. Shouldn't be too much of a problem. No dropping them, no getting them dirty. There was a spell to increase grip, she was sure of that but at the moment it wasn't coming to her so she'd settle with being careful.

Lex turned the eye so the back was facing her then made a vertical slit. She squeezed it for everything it had so the liquid could fall into the cauldron then rested it on the table and repeated with the second eye. There. See? Didn't botch it up at all.

"Evanesco!" Have you seen the distance to the bin? There was a reason they had wands.

SPOILER!!: Step 4

Back to the stirring it was. She could remember a potion that gave her achy muscles with all the stirring it had required. Granted she couldn't remember which potion it was but she knew it existed and it made her grateful that they only needed three stirs counter-clockwise.

Wooden stirrer in hand she gave three firm stirs to get everything mixed in together and maybe half a second to relish in the stir for the ingredients before turning the fire down to it's minimum capability.

It wasn't until after she'd done all that that she realized she'd stopped taking notes. "Oh right!" She reached over and grabbed her parchment and quill then quickly scribbled the last two steps she'd just done. Had to keep up with the notes for future reference and all.

Josie had just caught the Professor making this noise as he had come by her. She froze what she was doing after hearing this noise & watched him for a moment or two feeling insecure now. Was she not doing it right? Did she miss something? She felt her heart beginning to beat at a rather rapid pace. Josie placed her wrinkled hand over her chest as she tried to calm herself down, otherwise she might mess up even more. What should she do?

She took a moment to look around taking notice that she'd actually missed something that everyone else seemed to be doing. She hadn't cleaned her glass bowl from the looks it. Was that it? Well come to think of it, she didn't exactly remember cleaning that. But she did remember to clean her cauldron though. Still, Josie quickly jotted down a little side note down on her parchment.

They were moving on & apparently this step required a good hand? She looked down at her hand before she gulped. Did she have good hands? But FIRST, Josie added the hellebore’s syrup into the cauldron as directed and then looked down seeing the puffer-fish eyes. This must have been what the Professor was talking about with having good hands. With trembling hands she slowly picked up one of the eyes & felt her stomach turn. Ewwwwwwww.

Before she moved on, she took notice of what a few other students had done & saw that they had done something very clever. In fear of upsetting the Professor again, she followed suit & made sure to clean her knife that she'd be using to cut the back of the eye with. After doing so, she picked up her knife again & turned the eye around looking at the back of it as she slowly made a small cut into the squishy thing. Holding it over the cauldron she then squeezed the liquid into the cauldron (without looking to avoid getting sick) , then took a moment to put it into the rubbish bin. Cleaning her knife as before, she did the same motion of cutting the back of the eye then squeezing just the liquid into her cauldron; followed by tossing the eyes into the rubbish bin.

Looking up, she noticed the Professor was already moving on to the next step, which was to now stir her potion three times clockwi-NO WAIT counter-clockwise, with her wooden stirrer. RIGHT! Her wrinkled fingers grabbed onto her wooden stirrer & placed it into her cauldron, before doing as directed to stir potion in the clockwise of being counter! Then she took a moment to lower to her flame to a minimum.

Well there were a lot of girls looking pretty grossed out by the next step they had to do. Terry smirked a little but not enough to get a reaction from anyone. It was pretty disgusting after all but it was what they had to do in potions. Some pretty gruesome things went into these cauldrons.

Onto the practical.

He poured in the Hellabore syrup and watched the mixture with wide eyes. Yeah, not much happening. He got hold of the Puffer fish eye and using his scalpel, made an incision in the back. He picked it up in his gloved hands and squeezed it into the concoction. He then repeated with the other eye until they were both absent of their juices. He decided to throw them away in the bin, purely because it was quite near him.

By the time he had done this, they were moving onto the next step.

With his heater still on medium, the sixth year got hold of his wooden stirrer and placed it into the cauldron. He shoved his gloves off momentarily, knowing they would get in the way of his accuracy. He stirred three times, making sure it was in an anti-clockwise direction before turning the heat right down to minimum. He probably could've stirred using magic but that would've been extremely lazy. He was happy doing things by hand right now.

Once he had completed this, the seventeen year old returned to his note taking before the next instruction was called out.

Finally they were stirring! Gwen had wondered when they would get to that. Mimicking the other students, she cleaned the wooden stirer-thing with the spell she'd learned last lesson. Counterclockwise? Which way was that? Backward, obviously because time ran forward. But which way was backward? She knew that on some clocks there were hands that went one direction or the other, but she couldn't remember which way to stir.

She glanced around the room, trying to be inconspicuous. She couldn't ask Culloden for help, not when he was so mad at the class already. Finally she started at the top and stirred to the left in a circle. Was it left? She checked really quickly with her fingers. Yep. Left. Three times, then lower the heat to minimum. Done.

Caelen copied down note number three -how could she miss THAT- and note number four before going any further. She didn't think she would actually need them, but it was better to be safe than mess up a potion. Because some potions were dangerous. Yeah, Rockwell taught her well. Or somewhat well, because he made her drink the non-harmful ones. At least he knew they were non-harmful? Though they were gross and she became very cautious of things she drank for the next several years.

"Scourgify." She cleaned the wooden stirrer, making sure it was actually clean. She didn't want to mix anything that shouldn't be mixed and end up with something messy. Then the blue-eyed girl stirred the mixtrue three times counterclockwise, first figuring out which way was counterclockwise. Because she got mixed up sometimes. Everyone got mixed upt once in a while. But it didn't stop her from taking a big breath in through her nose and then sighing out of her mouth. It annoyed her when she had to think over things that should be second nature.

After she stirred the potion, she turned down the heat, making sure to turn it down to the appropriate heat level. Because sometimes the simplest things could mess up a potion. She learned that when Rockwell herded her out of the room qucikly but didn't close the door. Exploding potion say whaaaat? Seriously, that was actually what she said.

And what was she supposed to DO with the potion, anyway? She wasn't turning old. Maybe if she made it right, she could give it to someone else? There were a lot of old kids in this castle, maybe she could share hers. It wasn't like she was using it. And she didn't want it to go to waste. Her Aunt taught her against waste.

The firstie made a mental note to start looking around for someone to give the potion to. Should she do it correctly and should the Professor not have other plans for it. Because obviously she was going to have to follow the rules then.

The seventh year gave her gloves another cleaning before continuing, slipping them from her hands and scourgifying them with her wand. She didn't very much want to get fish eye liquid all over her workstation, thank you.

When Culloden began to explain the next set of instructions, Alice tried to look attentive, even though she couldn't hear a word of what he said. Peeking over at the notes of the boy next to her yet again, she copied from his notes before moving on to the actual brewing stuff. Sliding her gloves back onto her hands, she plucked the wooden stirrer from her kit and cast a "Scourgify" on that as well. Clean anything and everything, right?

And then she gently lowered the stick inside the mixture and began to stir in a counterclockwise direction, once... twice... three times. That was how many rounds it needed, yes? She carefully removed the stirrer from her concoction, setting it on her laid-out paper towel so that it wouldn't set potion running all over her table. Hands free yet again, Alice tugged off one glove and lowered the flame under her cauldron to a minimum with her wand.

She hadn't missed anything, right? After one last peek at the boy's notes to reassure herself, the lioness sat back and watched her potion simmer.

Lux was very pleased to see that the next set of instructions were not only very easy, but lacked fish eyes or anything else that was disgusting. Quickly, she added what was on the board to her notes:

10. Stir counter-clockwise 3 times with a wooden stirrer

Deciding it was a good idea to clean her knife again before moving on, she cleaned it with the Scourgify spell before getting out her wooden stirrer and using the same spell on that too. Once it was clean, she started using the stirrer, going three times counter-clockwise then turned her heat down to low. After crossing off what she had done, she waited for the next steps.

"No, no, NO!" Cosgrach exclaimed as he rushed to the girl, "there ought to be TWO puffer-fish eyes!" He looked flushed, but after a deep breath, he was calm.

"So you either start over or your potion won't be half effective." Her choice.

"What went wrong there, Miss?" Whose name he hadn't bothered learning. He wasn't shouting, oh no, his voice was calm.

Threateningly calm.

He didn't lower the heat.

The older man considered not telling him and watch his cauldron BOIL in return like that Huffie girl's did, but his wand did the job the other moment before the potion was out of hand.

"Next time, be careful." Because next time, there might be no one to watch his potion for him.

Instead of being a good, calm, milky-white potion, this one starts to hiss, smoke and turn dark blue! What might have gone wrong? The Professor is too engrossed with other students to notice it, so the Head Boy has got a minute to think and find a way to fix it, or face the Professor's wrath see his efforts vanished in less than a second.

Cosgrach stood in the front to address to the class again to explain them the fifth step.

"Step five," he spoke as he tapped his wand at the blackboard and the step wrote itself while he spoke. He knew fancy spells, you see. "Is adding bubotuber pus, and stirring 3 times counter clock wise and 3 times clock wise with CLEAN wooden stirrer."

Tessa prepared to add the hellebore's syrup, measuring it carefully before adding it to the cauldron. Now, it was on to the eyes. The eyes didn't phase her much- she had experienced injuries that were worse looking that these eyes.

However, these needed to be handled much more carefully. Blocking the eye into a corner- in case it tried to escape, she slowly cut a sliver down the back of the eye. Bringing it over to the cauldron she held onto it and carefully began to squish the liquid out. Suddenly, the eye slipped from her fingers- but thanks to her Quidditch reflexes, she was able to catch it before it hit the potion. She let out a sigh of relief and finished that eye, and began the second one, making sure she was holding it securely.

Just as she finished, the next step was revealed. Looking up, she quickly added it to her notes:

Text Cut: Notes

This step should be easy enough, right? She took out her wooden stirrer and was about to put it into the potion when she froze. Had she cleaned it? Best to make sure, and she quickly cast a cleaning charm on it before continuing. In the spoon went and she carefully counted to three as she turned. THat done, she turned down the heat, sitting back from the cauldron with a sigh. So far so good- right?

Whilst Theo waited for the next instruction, he watched as the professor got all stroppy with students who were doing it wrong. He was surprised that his OWN potion hadn't gone wrong so far, since he really wasn't putting his heart into it. Ha... Alec's potion. He chuckled quietly to himself, then sat up straight, ready to continue.

Bubotuber pus. Right, the stinky stuff. Theo pulled back the bowl that he had prepared earlier and poured it straight into the cauldron. He put it down, and picked up the wooden stirrer again. "Scourgify." Yes, cleaning again. Theodore stirred three times, both ways, and counted through it carefully in his head.

3 times wasn't much to count, though, so he didn't know why he bothered being so particular.

... BLINK.

... Okay. Breathe... breathe... this wasn't supposed to happen, right? Or was it? Alec glanced over at Terry's potion. It looked different to his. ... Frown. Glancing up at the board, the eighteen year old read over the last instruction carefully. Three stirs counter clockwise. ... Counter clockwise. His complexion paled considerably. Uh oh.

And Culloden hadn't noticed? Could he... rectify things before the man noticed?

More breathing was happening when he looked down at his potion. Okay... think logically, yeah? If he stirred three times clockwise when it was meant to be counter clockwise... to get it back to normal... he'd have to stir three times counter clockwise, right? And then another three times counter clockwise to get the colour of the potion to look something similar to how most people's potion looked.

Cleaning his wooden stirrer again, Alec stirred the potion three times counter clockwise... paused... and then stirred another three times counter clockwise. Was that it? Had he done it? Yeah? He reached up a hand and ruffled his hair. So much for getting an O in this OWL.

Eyeing them, he took a deep breath and said "The next step is kind of tricky and requires a good hand." He eyed them again. "So if the eye slips out of your hands, CLEAN it before trying again. If you ruin an eye, seek help." Because, obviously, he didn't want them to ruin several eyes. Every ingredient was too precious to waste. Hoping that they understood, he tapped his wand again and the new step added itself with BIG letters.

Hellebore syrup next? Ella handled it carefully and added it to the cauldron, biting her lip as she did. She was feeling a bit tired at the moment and she needed her brain to focus if she wanted to do this potion correctly which she did. The eighteen year old glanced over at Soph just to check before continuing on. What was next?

...Eyes.

Ella wasn't keen to work with them because she was sort of grossed out but she tried not to think about that too much. These were just...jelly eyes. Yeah. And if she thought of it like that, it wouldn't be as hard to cut and squish them. Speaking of, the blonde cleaned her knife before using it because cleanliness was important. Lafay had taught her well. "Scourgify."

Ugh. They were so squishy. Ella wrinkled her nose and tried to be delicate as she made an incision in each eye. It was the squeezing that would be difficult, though. Her hands and fingers were sore and it took her a lot of time just to get a good hold on one so that it wouldn't slip. She didn't want to have to start over.

The first eye took a bit of time but she was eventually able to squeeze in the liquid from it, ignoring how disgusting it was to be squishing an eye like she was. After vanishing that eye, she picked up the next. There was a moment of panic where she thought she might lose it but she caught the eye before it slipped completely and wasted no time pinching the liquid from it, even though it hurt. After vanishing the second eye, she paused for a moment to stretch her hand, clenching and unclenching it. Yeah, that was better.

He stepped in the front again. This time, he first tapped his wand on the blackboard and the next step appeared.

"The next step is on the board," he said, and it was pretty simple that didn't require any explanation, but he read it out just in case.

"Stir 3 times counter clock wise with a wooden stirrer and lower the heat to minimum." Clear? Any questions?

Next step seemed easy enough but Ella wasted no time cleaning her wooden stirrer. She then dipped it into the potion and began to stir. 1...2...3 times counter clockwise. With that done, she carefully lowered the burner to minimum heat and peered inside. This was what it was meant to look like, yeah?

Another glance at Sophie's cauldron and she knew she was on the right track.

Now for the Bubotuber pus. The smell was getting to Ella and her stomach turned slightly as she carefully added it to the potion. Once that was done, the eighteen year old cleaned the stirrer once again and dipped it back in. Then it was time to stir.

1...2...3 times counter clockwise and then 1..2..3 times clockwise.

All set?

Hopefully.

Time for another hand stretch. Clench...unclench...clench...unclench..

And was Alec doing okay? Ella glanced over and gave him a reassuring smile thought she wasn't sure he saw it. He could do this, she knew he could.

"Next time, be careful." Because next time, there might be no one to watch his potion for him.
Bay saw that his heat turned down right before his eyes.. he looked up and saw the professor.. next time be careful.. Bay started to get embarrassed, he was trying really had to get everything right… but he'll have to pay more attention now. "Thank----you…. Bay looked down at his notes again.. "I HAVE TO MAKE SURE I READ EVERYTHING CORRECTLY AND DON'T FORGET A STEP" he screamed at himself in his own head. While adding the new step to his list.

Okay so he needed to add the bubotuber pus and stir 3 times counter clockwise and then 3 clockwise with a clean wooden Stirrer.

He added his bubutuber pus into the cauldron and got his wooden stirrer, he had to make sure it was clean so he used "Scourgify" and "Aguamenti" to make sure the stirrer was super clean. He stirred 3 times counter clock wise. "One..two..three" and the 3 times clock wise "One..two..three" he re-read his notes to make sure he didn't need to do anything extra with the heat or anything else. He looked at his notes.. nope he was good. He scratched off the step.

Turning her attention over to Bay as the Professor addressed him, she couldn't help but feel bad. If his potion didn't work, he was not going to be cured of his wrinkles. Maybe she would give hers to him if that happened; she sure wouldn't need it herself.

After jotting the next set of instructions given, she went about magically cleaning her wooden stirrer again.

Then he put down his quill and reached over for the glass bowl where he had squeezed the bubotuber pus. Carrying it over to his cauldron, he slowly poured the entiire contents of the glass bowl into the cauldron. Then he picked up his wooden stirrer, cleaned it again by pointing his wand at it and saying, "Scourgify".

Then he began stirring the mixture with the wooden stirrer. He first stirred it counter clock wise three times. One...two...three...

Sander counted off the number of stirs and then began stirring the mixture in the opposite clockwise direction.

One...two...three...and then Sander stopped stirring.

Placing his wooden stirrer down, Sander picked up his quill and reviewed the steps in his journal to make sure that he had followed the instructions down to the very last detail.

Bart squinted as the next direction went on the board. Why was it so hard to see. The second year sighed and looked back at his own notes with the ingredients. He didn't want to be there anymore. Such effort this was taking. Why did they make it when places could just send them this same potion without all the work.

Typically Bart enjoyed potions, but lately nothing interested him except maybe a clam game of chess. Another big irritated sigh left him before he looked at the board again. Then looked down at his cauldron. Well this was easy enough, picking up the wooden spoon he glanced at it before cleaning it. The stuck it in his cauldron.

Counterclockwise... Was *mind blank* which way was that again. He thought way to hard for something that should be super easy. Oh right yes he knew and began stirring counterclockwise. 1.. 2.. 3..

Now what?

Just as he thought it Professor cool put the next step on the blackboard. Well that was quick. Good job Pro Cool. He squinted towards the board again. bubotuber pus. Now where did he stick that again. He looked around completely not remembering where he had set the bowl with the pus in it. He started moving around his work station shuffling his slippers around. It had to be somewhere, right?

~ Mrs. Steve Harrington ~ It be like that sometimes.

Adi squinted at the instructions on the board. He had heard the Professor saying them and nothing was wrong with his eye sight but Adi was just being sure. So many students were having problems with their potion and he didn't want any of that.

The Puffer added in the bubotuber pus. He scourgified his wodden stirrer and stirred.

Counter clockwise. One...Two...Three...
Clockwise. One...Two...Three...

Six stirs in all. Adi added in the step to his notes.

Was it just him or was this lesson going pretty fast? Although he supposed Potions lessons usually did. It was all one step after another.

He glanced briefly around him, spotting that the contents of Alec's cauldron were completely different colour to his. He blinked a few times, very confused. Which one had gone wrong? Him or Alec? But the seventh year had also seemed to have spotted the change and corrected his. Phew. He briefly smiled at his friend before going back to his work.

The next instructions were up in big bold letters thankfully. The seventeen year old slid across his Bubotuber pus from earlier and placed it within his cauldron. He pointed his wand at the stirrer. "Scourgify" and it was clean. Didn't want to hinder his potion progress. He placed it within the liquids and stirred three times in an anti-clockwise direction. Once this was done he stirred it back clockwise, also three times.

Glad of having completed this, he relaxed back in the comfortable seat and scribbled down the instruction into his notes.

✦ Juice of one middle-sized Pomegranate
✦ A bunch of Aspohdel
✦ 6 Sopophorus Beans
✔ Add water (using Aguamenti) to a glass bowl. Wearing gloves, squeeze Bubotuber's pus into the water and place to one side. Crush Asphodel roots in mortar and store this to one side for later use.
✔ Add 0.2 litres of Seal milk into the cauldron. Heat on high for one minute then lower burner to a medium height.
✔ Add hellebore syrup, make a small cut at the back of the puffer-fish eyes and squish them to the cauldron. Add ONLY their liquid and vanish the eyes themselves or dispose of them in the rubbish bin.
✔ Stir 3 times counter clock wise with a wooden stirrer and lower the heater to minimum.
✔ Add the Bubotuber and stir 3 times anti-clockwise and 3 times clockwise using a clean stirrer.

Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite

Lex didn't see the point in cleaning the wooden stirrer just to stick it back in the solution she was brewing again but alright, she'd go with it for the sake of having the class go smoothly and all that jazz. "Scourgify."

Happy now? Good the world could continue.

Now where did she put the bubotuber pus--or right, over there. Lex grabbed it and added it with the same caution she'd been adding everything else. Her wrinkles weren't as bad as other people's and she kinda wanted to keep it that way, in fact she wanted to reverse it completely because wrinkles at 15 were ridiculous and concerning.

Three stirs clockwise.....three counter-clockwise....yes, that was taken care of. The Gryffindor waited patiently behind her cauldron for the next step while scribbling out the step she'd just done.

SPOILER!!: Lex's Notes
• One bubotuber’s pus
• 0.2 litre of seal milk
• One hellebore’s syrup
• Two puffer-fish eyes
• One leech
• One water-dwelling planaria
• One middle-sized pomegranate’s juice
• A bunch of asphodel
• 6 sopophorus beans

1. Add some water to a glass bowl, wear your gloves and squeeze bubotuber’s pus into it. Put it away and crush asphodel roots in mortar. Put that away for future use too.

2. Add the seal milk. Turn the heater to high for a minute, then lower to medium.

3. Add hellebore syrup. Make a small cut at the back of the puffer-fish eyes and squish them to the cauldron. Add ONLY their liquid and vanish the eyes themselves or dispose of them in the rubbish bin.

NOTE: CLEAN before trying again if the eye slips out of your hands. SEEK HELP if you ruin an eye.

4. Stir 3 times counter clock wise with a wooden stirrer and lower the heater to minimum.

5. Add bubotuber pus. Stir 3 times counter clock wise and 3 times clock wise with wooden stirrer.

"So you either start over or your potion won't be half effective." Her choice.

...did someone say problem--

Cosgrach's old heart skipped a beat as he rushed to the other girl's desk and saw what she meant. He grunted and his wand was in his hands in the blink of an eye. Next moment, the potion was gone. Everyone was safe. He looked furious, but he was safe from any heart attacks too.

"What went wrong there, Miss?" Whose name he hadn't bothered learning. He wasn't shouting, oh no, his voice was calm.

Threateningly calm.

Cosgrach watched the boy to see him make a mistake, and he did.

Ummm she hadn't noticed this before, but the potion was NOT the right colour. Instead of the nice blue it was supposed to be, it was now some mucky brownish colour that she'd rather do without seeing. But besides the disgusting colour, it meant that she messed up. Uggh! She was hoping she had this! How had she not seen this before?

"Professor? Something went wrong with my potion." He was already mad. And she wasn't calling out. NOPE. Because she needed help and she was waiting to be called on to answer. Not calling out.

And furthermore, she was more afraid she would have to start over. You know how long that would take? They would be on their homework by then. Uggh. And she would NOT be telling her mom or Rockwell. This isn't why he was teaching her potion stuff.

And as the old Muggle show that she sort of loved and sort of hated said "Everybody makes mistakes, everybody has those days." She HATED these days.

Sighing and revising her notes, the redhead waited for the professor to tell her to start over. Because that's the only solution she could think of. And that suucked. Again, it would take forever for her do. But if it had to be done, it would be done. She would make sure she got this right. Because she never just left off. She would have to work after class if she needed to. Ugggh. She hated messing up like this.

"Do I have to start over?" Again, not calling out. NEVER. She wasn't losing more housepoints for this. This was not worth housepoints.

The Last of Her Kind

Adrienne upturned her glass bowl, watching as the bubotuber pus glopped its way into her cauldron. Beautifully disgusting. She then grabbed a clean wooden stirrer and stirred away and-

Oh. Shoot.

That was clockwise, wasn't it. Still, it was just one stir, right? And maybe if she stirred four times counterclockwise, it would, like, cancel out or something. And maybe Culloden wouldn't notice and it would all not make a difference. She took a moment to envision a clock, and then went along with her plan, glancing around to make sure nobody had seen her mistake. Three rotations counterclockwise, three clockwise, and there. Perfect. Sort of.

Annabeth felt her heart racing as the teacher approached her. Without knowing what to do with her hands, she jammed her hands into her pockets and waited for him to do anything. He asked about something incomprehensible to her at that moment. And then, she completely desperate watched her charmer and perfect master of potions pointing his wand to her cauldron making its content vanish in a blink. She furrowed her brow in concern.

"What? Professor Culloden! My potion!" She took out her hands from her pockets and gestured towards her emptied cauldron, desperately. As if it was two gloves for fingers, her fingers were wearing the emptied eyes that she was supposed to have thrown out. Awkwardly, she hid her hands behind her body.

"I don't have the slightest idea bout what happened..." She took her parchment with her free hand and checked the instructions. She had followed every instruction. Then, cautiously, she looked at her other hand, which fingers were still wearing the eyes. Much to her surprise, a big part of the hollow eyeball had vanished. She looked around and then to the floor and there was no trace of the eyeball.

Pretending to be calm, she said "A part of a puffer-fish eye may have fallen into the cauldron, Professor... It had never happened before... I'm always so careful with my potions..." She looked into his eyes sadly. "May I try to brew this potion again? I love to brew potions... Please, Professor. Let me try again." She could feel her eyes watering when she said the last words. She breathed deeply while waiting for him to reply.

Or couldn't she see the blackboard? But, watching her further, Cosgrach could see she saw the other steps perfectly. He sighed--she had simply forgotten. Making his way to her work space, he leaned forward a little to whisper. He didn't want anyone else to hear it, after all.

"You've forgotten about asphodel roots," he said, holding her gaze. "Be quick to crush them now." This was potions, and a second of extra boiling could cost her the potion--and more.

N'aw, his favourite student was helping another. Cosgrach's chest filled with pride and he couldn't help but smile at her. He would thank her later, though. Now, he had to explain the next step.

With everyone doing fairly well, Cosgrach was relieved. No one seemed to have too many problems with the eyes, which told him his class was crafted with their hands. It was good to know for future reference.

On to the next step! Andrew jotted down the next one. He wore his clean gloves once more and cleaned his wooden stirrer. "Scourgify."

Stir three (3) times COUNTER clockwise, then lower heat to minimum

The seventh year then placed the wooden stirrer into his cauldron then stirred the contents counter clockwise three times.

One...two...three. Andrew lifted his stirrer, placed it on a tray nearby and lowered the heat to minimum.

Andrew picked up his stirrer again and cleaned it with a cleaning spell, before doing the next step. "Scourgify."

The seventh year got his bowl of diluted bubotuber pus and added it to his cauldron. He scrunched up his nose, as he smelled the scent of gasoline. No time to fuss over that now, though. Andrew got his clean wooden stirrer and stirred the solution three times counter clockwise, then three times clock wise.

And then besides his cauldron there were two well-juiced puffer fish eyeballs, crushed and malshaped by the boys own hands. But that meant Cutty would have the chance to try some transfiguration in potions class. What was the incantation?

Choosing to remain silent, she glanced up at the board..... only to find that it was all blurry.

What? Her vision was going bad, too?

Extremely close to panicking, it took the seventh year a while to realize that her sight was only affected when she looked at far away objects. Her cauldron and all her materials were still clearly visible, so Alice tried to copy notes from the boy beside her before adding the hellebore syrup to her concoction. Whew. She was fine, see? Everything was fine.

Of course, she cleaned her knife before she started on the next step. No careless Gryffindors here. With the utensil, she made a small slit down the back of the eye, careful not to handle it to roughly and send it flying across her station. Then Alice set down her knife, both gloved hands steadily holding the eyeball over her mixture and pressing it between her palms. That gave her better control over the round object than her fingers would allow, and soon all the juices from the fish eye had been squeezed into her cauldron. The lioness carefully did the same to the other eye, following the squishing up with a quick "Evanesco!" to rid her table of the used materials.

Evanesco. That's what it was. With his wand in hand, he tried his best to mimic the wand movements of the lioness captain and aimed the spell at his used eyes. "Evanesco!" Without result, the squished up little eyes just stared back at him. "Evanesco!", he tried once more, but again with no result. How was Alice doing that? Cutty looked at her curiously and the reminded himself that she was much older and thus probably had practiced the spell many more times than twice as he'd just done. He didn't want to bother her. Didn't want to ask her what the mental state was. So he decided to give it one more go before simply depositing them into the trash as Culloden said would be alright to do.

"Evanesco!". Maybe he was doing the wand motion incorrectly. He placed his wand down and swept the eyes into the rubbish bin.

After adding this last step to his parchment full of notes, Cutty took up the wooden stirring stick. H'mmm, why wooden? Was metal or stone reactive with this potion, perhaps?

Three times. Counter clockwise. Then, lower the heat. Got it.

Cutty cleansed the stirrer once more with the spell, "Scourgify!", then moved on to the stirring. 1...2...3 times in the counter clockwise motion. He lifted the stirrer out of his potion, and placed it beside his cauldron. Wand in hand once more, he used a shrinking spell upon the flame, "Reducio!"
