The class looks the same with two little-but-effective changes: instead of stools, there are proper chairs with soft cushions to sit and lean back on. The Professor cares about his students' posture, apparently, because they are charmed to take the most comfortable shape and height once a student is seated.
The second change is the walls: they are now a soft, calming blue. He is desperate to avoid blasting cauldrons, and muggles claim this colour calms people down.
He opens the door 15 minutes before the class time and sits at his desk to wait for the students to arrive, with a neutral expression on his face.
OOC: Come in, take your seats! The class will resume approximately 7 hours later. You may chat among yourselves, but please don't go overboard with it. Thanks!
The lesson is in progress now, so do not post your late arrival and just RP as if you have been there all along!
Potion progress
• 3 goose feathers (chopped WELL that they look like powder)
• 5 square centimetres of parasites (mycosis fungus)
• Roughly 2 square centimetres fire-crab shell (prepared)
• One fire slug
• 8 drops of salamander blood
• Some flobberworm mucus (depends on how much rigidity one wants)
1. Fill your cauldron 1/3 with water.
2. Add powdered goose feather. Stir clockwise until it looks homogenous and then turn the heater to high.
3. Get your pestle and mortar, crush the parasites for thirty seconds or so, fill the mortar with water, shake it for them to mix better and add it slowly to the potion.
4. Stir counter clock-wise for 7 times and turn off the heater. Let it cool until no vapour is seen. This should take about 5 minutes.
5. Take the fire crab shell but do not add it! Hold it with a metal spoon, lower it nicely into the potion just inside the surface—make sure it doesn’t splash water AT ALL—then start stirring 1 time clockwise, 1 time counter clockwise for 12 times in total. Each stir should take about ten seconds for it to spread thoroughly. Once done with stirring, get it out and put it away on a tissue.
6. Wait for another minute and cut the slug vertically into two in the meantime, add the pieces and stay away from the cauldron as far as you can. If you’ve done everything correctly, the surface should explode harmlessly and start burning. Put it out with your breath ONLY, so you’d better hurry before the fire spreads to the whole surface.
7. Add 8 drops of salamander blood. Alternate between two stirs counter-clock wise, two stirs clock-wise. Repeat for four times. (So you should stir 16 times in total.)
8. Add flobberworm’s mucus to keep it in your mouth better (no more than a tablespoon, not a must).
9. Enjoy.

Well this was different.
Dora took in the entire room with one sweeping gaze before going over and taking a seat in the center. This chair. It was different too. Interesting. The sixth year looked intrigued by everything and continued to let her gaze wander while she waited for the lesson to begin.

Sander finally found his way into the Potions Rooms. Who would have thought that he would have trouble finding it especially after he had gone through each and every corridor that existed within the castle itself!!
But yes he was finally here, and even though there were other students sitting in the class already, Sander was just glad he wasn't late. He looked around....okay nice comfortable chairs....stop admiring the chairs Sander, the Professor can see you.
So Sander approached the man sitting at his desk. Should he wave? Should he bow? Should he shake his hand? Should he click both his heels together before greeting the man?
Sander watched as a student who had entered before him, just said hello without all the formalities before sitting down. So Sander followed suit.
He walked up and nodded his head in greeting and said,"Hello Professor."
Sander wished he could have said more but since he was new and didn't know all the names of the Professors, he figured just acknowledging the man was a Professor would have to do for now.
Okay find a seat, Sander.
Sander picked the nearest empty chair and sat in it and smiled when he felt the chair conform to his anatomy.
"Nice!" he thought to himself as he dug inside his bag for his journal and writing materials. Then he leaned back in the oh so comfortable chair and began observing.
Hawthorne stepped into the potions class for the first time EVER. It had been an odd walk from her dorm, she had to walk upstairs to the main hall before just having to go down a different staircase to the dungeons. All of this while trying to carry all of the things she needed for class, she had made use of the hollowness of her cauldron by putting her potions kit, notebook, two quills, and ink inside. The rest she held in her other hand.
After taking a moment to look around the room she chose an empty seat. She first placed her supplies on the desk in a pleasing arrangement. Her cauldron dead center, her notebook and writing supplies adjacent, the scales on the left hand side and her ingredients behind and slightly to the right.
Before sitting she turned towards the professor "Good day professor!" she gave a small curtsey before finally taking her seat. Strange, the chair formed to just how she liked it! She bit her lip, while she was very excited this class chose her fate. Thus class decided if she got extra teaching or not.

Potions. Yeah, Lana wasn't even sure of what she should expect from the lesson. Every year, she would attend but it didn't mean that she was great at it by any means. But there was a part of her that wanted to see how it might have changed with the introduction of a new professor.
Initially, Lana had wanted to just keep her head down and avoid all things different with this term; but her own curiosity had gotten the best of her and here she was walking into the very un-dungeon-ly classroom. It was a change for sure and she eyed the room as she walked forward into it.
Spotting the change to the seating, she cautiously examined it before she sat down. It was comfy for sure, but she wasn't all that sure of how they would be conducive to being so close to open flames though out the year.
Settling into her new super comfy chair, she began to unpack her bags and looked up toward the front from her station in the middle of the room. The verdict was still out about the new professor and one could never be too careful. Was he the type to set students ablaze and such like their last professor?
"Good day, Professor." Lana offered before she continued unpacking her supplies for the lesson.
Potion was something Nigel had debated on whether to kept it on his schedule or not. But with the new professor and everything. It sounded interesting. So here he was and there were some awesome chairs in this newly decorated potions classroom.
"Hello Professor"
He took a seat and leaned back on the soft cushions. This was nice. With the blue walls. This was a very calming room right now. Awesome.

So there was a new professor...and sorta a new room. It was blue now. But...Penelope liked it. Not that she always paid attention to or cared about walls being a different color, but it wasn't bad or distracting or anything. Looked fine to her. The chairs did too. They looked more comfortable than most chairs they got.
Maybe she'd start to like this class a little more now.
"Hi Professor," she greeted him simply, before heading over to an empty table to sit down at.

Potions. Probably one of Jun's favorite classes to attend. Usually he made things blow up but he promised his parents he would stop. Not like the professor would let him anyway. He'd probably throw him in detention in a heart beat. No big news there. Entering the class, with his cap in hand because the professor would make him take it off. " 'Ello professor," he gave Prof Culloden a small wave. Jun noticed Prefect Candy and Adelaide already there. He gave them both a nod before finding a seat for himself. Then he noticed the blue walls and new chairs.
Didn't feel like a dungeon anymore in here.

She was early it seemed. Beverly took that as a good omen. Walking in, she inhaled every little detail. Her mind was like that; analyzing, analyzing. The walls had a soothing texture to them, or maybe it was just her mind. The rest of the classroom seemed nice. Not what she had expected since Kennedy went over and over about how his girlfriend's mother's classroom looked like.
Taking a seat at the front, she neatly set her parchment and quill, side to side, directly in front of her. Now...to wait for the lesson to start.
Suddenly it hit her this was her first time in a real classroom. With real students. With a professor. Miles and miles away from home. Her hands grew clammy and she kept her gaze down. Eye contact would only make her more nervous.
Potions was definitely his dad's thing since he owned his own Potions company and was constantly coming up with new concoctions. Michael on the other hand wasn't as keen. Maybe because he had grown up being around simmering cauldrons and vials of every colour and size.
And then of course there had been Lafay who had been so intimidating that enjoying Potions was rather difficult.
But there was now a new Professor in the ranks and he had certainly made some changes to the decor. It was cool. "Good day Professor." He said as he scanned the room to see where he could park his bum and spotting the girl from the train station, Michael made a beeline for her.
He sat down beside her and grinned at the way she kept her head down. "Now how do you expect to copy the notes from the board if you are constantly looking at your desk?"
Cutty entered the Potions classroom and was thrown a bit by the colour. It was so much brighter than before. But he didn't take the time to register how it made him feel, all that mattered was...
"Welcome to Hogwarts, Professor." He didn't catch the name at the beginning of term during the Headmistress's speech. "Hope you like it here." He wanted to sound like a grown wizard and yes consistency in education was important so maybe this fella would stay if he thought the students here were reasonable, mature, and welcoming.
And then there was Tobias's embarrassing greeting. Cutty tried not to laugh at the third year Pufferton, but he was however smirking as he took a seat. It was really, really comfortable. Ugh! Almost too comfortable. Between the seat and the Puff he might have learned nothing, so Cuttz thought it best to remove a few books from his bag and arrange them on his seat so as to keep sharp and alert.

Alex arrived at the Potions classroom and was not exactly happy about it. This was definitely not one of her favorite classes, but was determined to keep it positive. New Professor, fresh start, right?
The room was not yet full, but there were a good number of students there already. Once she was completely inside, she noted that a number of changes had been made. The room was now painted blue which definitely helped it look less dreary. Ooooh and cushy chairs, this was also an improvement.
The new Professor was a little hard to read. As Alex passed his desk she said, "Hello Professor." She chose a desk in the middle of the room, sat down and began to unpack her bookbag. Seeing her friend Sander seated nearby, she gave him a little wave. Alex then scanned the room looking for other familiar faces.

Potions?
Right...
He supposed that was going to go well with him because, well...he was not so bad at potions, was he? Or maybe he was...he was not sure. It all depended on what the professor was going to ask the students to brew anyway. Trying not to look all nervous about being in a BLUE room full of people he does not know, Gareth walked in the class. Whoops...everyone was looking at him, were they?
No, they were not. Or maybe they were.
He was not sure. Still there were people and...ugh wait, this place looked like there could be some bugs living in it. Noooo....he was not going to be horrified. Anyway, he needed to choose himself a seat and get lost in the crowd before too many people looked at him. So he practically attempted to run towards an empty seat just when....
Ouch!!
The foot of a desk apparently caught his and the Slytherin boy found himself kissing the flloor. "Merlin..." he murmured as he sat up and help his nose. It hurt. But most importantly, this was very embarrassing. Blushing a bit, Gareth quickly stood up and looked for an empty desk away from people.
Was there any?

Sander breathed a sigh of relief. FINALLY! a familiar face. He was glad when she saw Alex enter the classroom and pick a seat nearby. When she waved to him, he waved back at her, crossing his eyes at the same time. He knew that Potions class was a serious thing but he figured that until the class actually started he would spend the time while waiting to relax and observe the other students around him.
Kace made it to the potions room. He realized he wasn't the only one here. He saw a whole bunch of students. He did kind of sleep late this morning. He got here as quick as he could. You could probably see the sweat on his forehead from running here. He noticed the classroom had a different look than to what Mrs. Lafay did. The walls were calming blue. He approved of the color.
Then he noticed the new professor. He smiled and greeted him with a wave, "Hey Professor!!" then he went to go find his seat. He usually like to take the seats near the middle. Not too quite near the front, not too near the back. Just right for his attention span purposes. He took out his pen and quill and then began to doodle waiting for class to begin.
Walking about twenty whole steps from her common room to the potions classroom, Charlotte walked in through the door. The walls were that really pretty blue and there were nice-looking seats all around as well. Maybe coming to this school for actual learning reasons wouldn't be so bad? She made sure to smile and say a quiet "Hello" to the man at the front whom she assumed was the professor for this potions class and made her way towards the back of the room. She spotted Lux on the other side of the room and gave her small smile and nod. She also thought she saw Jun sitting not too far away from her but she didn't look long enough to find out for sure. Plus, if he noticed her and really wanted to, he would talk to her but otherwise, when it came to class, Lottie didn't want to be bothered much. She wasn't a scholar but she knew that class wasn't for chit-chatting.
She sat down in the seat and automatically felt the chair mold a bit and she suddenly felt amazingly comfortable. Glancing around the room a bit, she wondered if anyone else's chair did this and was as happy about it as she was. If there was one thing she loved, it was a comfortable place to sit. Suddenly, she didn't mind having to sit in this class anymore.

Was she in the right room?
It took a few seconds of blinking and looking around in confusion for Alice to realize she had indeed arrived at the potions lab. Only it was now colored.... wrong. And the new seating arrangement was fit for rich snobs. This was most definitely not Lafay's doing.
As she passed the new professor's desk, he was greeted with a light, "Morning, sir." The lioness stopped to observe him, finding nothing awkward about staring and scrutinizing him for a few seconds before moving to take a seat near Dora and Mo.
Interesting.

There was that name.
Ben might have corrected him had Adi not done it himself or if he had not gotten completely distracted by the reaction of the chair to his presence. He had merely sat down when it adjusted to his height and such so that he comfortably seated for once rather then stiff on a stool.
"Nothing..." he answered, having not been up to much lately. Just settling into the new term. "Certainly interesting though," Ben added, talking about the chair...and the color of the room by extension.

Putting her head down slightly and covering her mouth, she tried to disguise her laughter. This was not good. She did not want to make a bad impression with the new Professor. Finally getting control of herself, Alex mouthed "Behave!.". Then she took out her Potions book and pretended to read so she would not be tempted to laugh again, hopefully.

POTIONS... Yes Bart couldn't hold back being excited for this class. It had been one of his favorites at his old school, even if he had blown up the lab and got kicked out, but really they didn't look at records so this dude wouldn't know. Well hopefully he wouldn't know about the firework potion that went wrong. He was positive that professor was back in her redone lab and the burn paste took care of the skin like it did his own. Moving his robe he looked at the scar that he made sure they didn't put the paste on so he could keep.
His grin was plastered all over his face, "Hello Professor we making anything exciting today?" Well it was all exciting though wasn't it. Unless it was love potion and then no thank you he wanted none of that. No way there was no time with Quidditch try outs and all the other fun stuff to get into. Finding an empty seat that just so happened to be right being book boy Bart snickered as he sat down. Well if they had to read anything he figured he could just throw things at book boy until he told the answer.

Sander hadn't expected Alex to start laughing when she saw his face. A snort of laughter escaped him before he knew it, but he successfully masked that snort with a cough.
After faking his cough for a few seconds, he mouthed his apology to anyone who was looking at him, before mimicking Alex and burying his head in his textbook.
At least this class wasn't so early he had time to do training and go to breakfast today. He felt quite accomplished so far today. Since his common room was so close to the potions classroom, he decided to take a short nap.
He woke up and headed over it the classroom. He entered the classroom and stopped half way through. Now he knew he had been gone for a term but this classroom did not look like this last time he was here. Nope. This was no longer Lafays classroom. Nothing wrong with that, it was nice...... And blue.
" Hello professor." He said as he walked by the front of the room and into an empty seat.

Marigold walked into the Potions classroom - or what she thought was the classroom - and blinked. Twice. Looking around she saw that the Professor was sitting at the front. Marigold skipped over to his desk.
"Hello Professor! I'm Marigold McAlistor." He was a new teacher and should know his students, right? She turned back around and took in the walls once more. This was SO WEIRD! All this bluuuuuueee. She took a seat and was immediately started by the chair height adjusting.
Robin left early to make sure she arrived at the class on time- she knew herself well, and by that she meant she knew she would get lost. Normally she had a good sense of direction... That was in the muggle world though, and didn't seem to apply to magical castles-turned-schools.
bummer.
She looked around nervously at everyone as she came in, trying to keep her head low. She was terrified for this class. Well, techincally she was terrified for every class... but this was different. She could blow something up, or spill acid, or...or who knows what she could mess up. She shook her head, the walls seemed to calm her a little, their blue seemed to remind her of her old play room. She got out of her funk.
get a grip!
She quickly walked to an empty chair, wondering who her desk-mate would be. She would probably apologize in advance just in case she messed up over the course of the term. She looked up at the teacher and bowed her head a little. Even if she was naturally bad at this class, she wouldn't know until she tried~ and she would try her best until she got it right- no matter how long it took.
Potions was definitely his dad's thing since he owned his own Potions company and was constantly coming up with new concoctions. Michael on the other hand wasn't as keen. Maybe because he had grown up being around simmering cauldrons and vials of every colour and size.

Beverly was so concentrated on a tiny smudge on the desk she nearly jumped when she heard a familiar voice. Okay. You can't just do THAT to people. Especially ones who were already jumpy to begin with.
She pretended it had no effect on her.
"I might not have to, I've read hundreds of books on potions," she said, still keeping her gaze fixed on the smudge. Beverly knew who it was. It was the boy from the train station. Besides, she wasn't lying. Potions was a family thing and she never seem to escape it, nor did her ambitions.

Caterina had been so excited about the first Potions lesson of the term, but then she remembered that Lafay wasn't teaching anymore. She'd been sad about that for a while before she also remembered that the new professor was so interesting looking. Definitely interesting.
Also, the classroom was interesting. It was also blue. Hmm. She'd sort of liked it the way it was, but change was good sometimes. "Hello, Professor!" She greeted the man as she walked past him to snag a seat beside Mo, of course, cause this was Potions class.
Super Slytherin Buddy || ⅓ She-Snake Trio || 'I taste like chocolate and potatoes'
Now this was more like it!
A lesson right down the corridor from the Common Room. No rules about having to be clean. Not that she ever got too dirty, but it was just nice to know that, if she ever did decide to let herself go, Potions would be a class she'd still be welcome to attend. And there was no needing to stand next to a desk until the Professor said that they were allowed to sit.
Plus, it seemed like this new Professor guy had some okay decorating skills. With the newly painted walls and all.
Rhodes stepped into the classroom and took a quick look around to decide if she really liked the new look, and deciding that she did, for now, at least, she flashed the Professor man a smile in greeting and made her way over to an empty seat.
Oh. Comfy chairs. They didn't have chairs like those on the sixth floor.
