Default Office of Professor Elwood

{Banner by sweetpinkpixie}

The small tower office belonging to Divination Professor Calista Elwood is somewhat different that it has been in recent years--it's at least the cleanest its ever been. Being promoted to Ravenclaw Head of House had definitely made the Divination professor rethink the way she presented her self in the terms of her office. The floor which was before covered with parchments scribbled with instructions for various methods of scrying, personal notes, and even a few drawing here and there, books ranging from fantasy literature to textbooks, and a number of boxes are all gone and filed away either in the new shelving unit on the wall or have found a place on the many bookshelves. On one wall a picture of some sorts is hung up on the wall that first made its appearance in the office the term before. It was once covered by a bookshelf but it had broken the previous term and now the ghastly thing was stuck to the wall by a tricky permanent sticking charm.

The desk remains still a tad cluttered with the deck of tarot cards and funky-looking globe standing out the most. In the corner is a small, magically self-serving tea-table and ice box that serves visitors lemonade or tea and there is also a box of treats sitting on top as well. The window sill is home to the biting geranium that the Herbology Professor had given as a gift as well as a small mountain plant from a former Ravenclaw prefect.

The Ravenclaw Head of House's blue and gold parrot Galileo is still here on his perch sleeping or perhaps out flying if the weather is till warm enough. Please ask before petting him though because strange people may upset him. Lastly a large wagon with the words 'The Magnificent Clairvoyant Harmony Peacekeeper!' in faded gold calligraphy is parked on the back wall.

Come in for any needs involving Ravenclaw House, for help in Divination, or if you just want to visit.

OOC: Please do not post in here until your character has been invited in. To be invited in first please post your character arriving at, and knocking on the door to Professor Elwood's office. Do this in the 'Seating Area' Outside Professor Elwood's Office thread.

Default *different timeline from Cutty and Elwood* :D
curly haired prefect - "sometimes I get angry!" - 30/90 - *chicken emoji* - probably @ Disney - I speak dog

Ok so Caleb had waited for what felt like FOREVER for Cutty to leave and finish his meeting with Elwood. He wondered what he was here for. Homework help? Possibly. Extra tutoring? He wouldn't be surprised.

Once the office was vacant, Caleb entered and sat down in front of Elwood's desk. Not wanting to waste her time, he got straight to the point.

"Hi Professor. I was just wondering...so that lesson last term, with the crystal orbs, when the foreign students were there, I was victim to a toenail growing hex. Kat, the Slytherin Prefect, was too," he reminded her. So that made it extra important, yeah?

"Anyways, I was just wondering if those foreign kids were properly punished or not," he said. "I just wanted to know, because it was very traumatizing and to think they just GOT AWAY with it makes me really upset," he added.

Yes. Elwood needed to know that HE was upset. HE had been affected by this, so obviously, the maximum punishment should have been handed out to those pesky visiting kids.

And there it was. He wanted to know if she knew things. Like SEEING them when others can't. He was sort of a cutie. She watched him look at her with what she assumed was his attempt and piercing eyes as he stood there in his little kid body with just-too-long hair. "Well Mr. Mordant, I'm happy to hear that you've considered adding Divination to your lessons this term and I'd be glad to speak to you about its benefits. Yes, you may come in." She said putting on a VERY serious face to match his own.

All business this one.

As the blonde stepped aside to let the boy into her office she noticed that one of the Newell twins was also waiting to speak with her. That made two slytherins all the way up in her tower. "Mr. Newell, I'll be right with you when I finish with Mr. Mordant." That okay?

She smiled before closing the door.

OOC: Izzy you can go ahead and post in the office thread and Lissy you can too just assume it's a different timeline.

Ya see what she did there? That was perfect. Echoing Cutty's seriousness had the effect of ...well, I wouldn't say total and complete trust from the boy, but Cutty seeing that Professor Ellwood understood that he meant business even after witnessing him spillout before the Gobstones match would behave more naturally for her than he would for most others he'd met at the school. At least, in the way of Professors. Everyone else got fake patience and big, terd-eating smiles. That was Cutty Mordaunt.

He helped himself to a seat where he maintained what he thought of as a sort of adult-inspired maturity. "I've been doing a bit of independent reading on the subject, Professor. It seems that it has a lot of nay-sayers. Do you think that all of the arguments made against Divination are valid?" He didn't want to use the word true. It would not only render the question's answer obvious as she taught the subject, but also the word itself for Cutty was plenty subjective. It would not help him, he decided.

With one last look in the corridor, Elwood shut the door behind the boy and watched him sit down in one of the chairs. She walked over to the small ice-box cabinet in the corner and opened it and busied around for a second. "Would you like anything to drink dear, lemonade or iced tea?" Oh and she had candy...or something in the tin on top. "You can also have one of these." She tossed the tin on a pile of parchment towering on the desk.

She stood there waiting to retrieve what he'd like to drink but listened as he spoke. Independent research was always a good thing, something she was proud to say that her Ravenclaws did often. Unfortunately, she wasn't impressed much with his question. What did he think she would say to that? She'd only most of her academic career studying or teaching the Noble Art. "Well, there are many naysayers in both the magical and mundane circles of Divining but there are countless examples of real people have real and extraordinary gifts." Like Seers and those who are able to access things in the Beyond who are dedicated enough. "So no, I do not believe that all of the arguments against Divination are valid."

"Yes you can come on in Mr. Newell." Calista said as she opened the door and stepped aside for him to enter. When he did, he took a seat that had just been vacated by the previous Slytherin. As he began speaking the blonde closed the door and went to check on her thing in the wagon. She poked her head in and then quickly took it out and closed the door, all the while nodding along to what the boy was saying.

She was not happy when she found out that the crystal ball fiasco from last year had been the responsibility of the foreign visiting students but she had found out too late but...what happened to his toenails?

Callie's head jerked around and she looked at the boy's feet. "Are you're...toenails okay now?" Because if his feet were hurting in his shoes he was more than welcome to take them off if he had to. "But I'm afraid I do not know exactly how much they were punished. Our Headmistress could not discipline them seeing as they are not our students but we did inform the Headmaster and Headmistress from Durmstrang and Beuxbatons. I trust they got at least a talking to." She said rolling her eyes. Yeah she was annoyed and had even considered writing each of them a letter asking for money to repair her supplies but the rest of the staff had talked her out of it. Something about it damaging further the international bonds or whatever.

Caleb chuckled. "Yeah, they're fine now, thanks. It was freaky at the time, though," he added, not trying to downplay just how TRAUMATIC the whole experience had been and all that.

Hmpf. That was no good. Caleb had been hoping that they'd gotten AT LEAST a detention or expulsion from school or something. "Eh, well, hopefully. I doubt it though, they didn't seem to care much while they were here," he told the professor with a sigh.

He wondered if the Ministry could do something. Like International Cooperation or whatever. Hmm. He'd ask his dad.

"Well thanks anyways. So, um, while I'm here...did you have a good summer?" he asked. He hadn't really gotten a chance to know Elwood last term - why not start now?

Thank Merlin. "That's good to hear. I can only imagine." How long had they been like that though. She wanted to ask but thought that the boy may want to block that time out of his head. Images of giant toenails sticking through holes in the ends of his sneakers kept coming into the front of her mind though.

"It is unfortunate. Though I don't see any time in the future they'll be back at Hogwarts to there's that at least." The French and Romanian students hadn't all been bad, at least they hadn't appeared to be so. The one girl Lea or whatever was kinda nice.

Now that his concern had been addressed, he was moving on to the usual pleasantries. "My summer was nice enough, nothing huge happened. How was your's?" She was also curious if she was going to still see him in her lessons but she would ask that in a minute.

"No. No, thank you, Professor Elwood." He gave answer to the offer of lemonade or iced tea. It was still a warm September yet, but the boy preferred his tea hot. But the tin she had tossed onto the parchment, that enticed his curiousity, so he lifted it and placed it onto his lap to open it up.

He listened carefully to what Professor Elwood had to say in response and it seemed as though she were saying that some arguments against the subject were indeed valid judging by her emphasis. H'mm? "Are you a seer, Professor?" He asked curiously and finally unfastening the cap to the silver tin. Oh, what would be inside? Was it just candy?
