The Main Stage and Seating area takes up the whole front of the Great Hall. There are round tables which seat eight or so people scattered everywhere, covered in white tablecloths, and decorated with red roses and place settings. Lit red candles float near the ceiling, casting a warm glow on the diners. To either side of the Great Hall are long trestle tables laden with all sorts of valentines food... only the table on the left features Valentines themed food like pizza with heart-shaped pepperoni, heart-shaped sushi, and pink lemonade, while the table on the right has a more anti-love theme with candy hearts that state slogans like 'cupid stay away', 'it's not me, it's you' and 'leave me alone', and cupcakes with hearts on them that would be cute if it wasn't for the little licorice dagger piercing each heart right through the centre.
Even closer to the front of the Great Hall is a large stage, right where the staff dais usually is. In front of the stage is a sizable dance floor, ready for anyone who wants to get up and show off the skills they learned with Flamsteed. As for the music, that is provided by The Dead Kneazles, a student band consisting of Vesper Bayliss, Nigel Barrington, West Odessa, and Ascanius Stark. They will be performing danceworthy tunes in 20-30 minute sets, and when they aren't up there rocking out for your listening and grooving pleasure, a sound system will play a selection of classic Muggle and Wizarding love and anti-love themed hits.
So come and eat, or dance, or just sit and chatter. Love is in the air!
Or is it?
ooc: Feel free to make up what kind of love or anti-love themed food or drinks your character finds on the two tables! While you may not RP for the band itself, you are more than welcome and encouraged to RP dancing to different songs (and saying what songs are playing on the sound system when the band isn't around), or just listening and watching as your character pleases!
The band had begun, which was kind of funny and cool at the same time. She liked Ascanius, Ves, and Nigel plenty - she didn't know West - but she got a kick out of them being in a band. Ascanius? She wasn't at all surprised about him, but the other two? Yeah, it made her laugh a little, but it was pretty cool of them nonetheless.
The sixth year took his place behind his drumset and started to tighten up the screws on his cymbals so that every hit would be nice and clean for today's gig. The Dead Kneazles gig. Their band's gig, which was surreal and awesome and he was all smirks in prep for it.
Finishing up testing his equipment, he looked out in the crowd and saw the onslaught of familiar faces that were now gathering to hear them perform. He threw a half-hazard smile at Sophie who was sitting next to that creepily fast keeper for the Puffs. Huh. What was his name again?

At least then she’d know for sure that she couldn’t try his guitar out, and she was even more sure that things were starting as Ascanius and Vesper had both arrived and joined West and Nigel on the stage. They’d both gotten smiles, in return for those that had probably just been given out generally to everyone gathered. At least she wasn’t going to be rude.[/COLOR]
He also noticed a familiar train of brown hair that was moving through the audience to get closer to the stage and, hopefully, toward him. But next to her was a girl Ascanius had definitely seen 'round before. In fact, didn't she come to their party last year? Lily was her name, yeah? Yeah. And, since he was in a generous mood 'cause of their gig and all, he sent a smirk her way as well.
Super generous.

Maybe for the band a little, but mostly for their lead guitarist and stuff. He was pretty.
The next face that flashed in his vision was Alice's. And while he kind of knew she was here for their front man, he liked to think she was here for him. After all, he was super attractive, which Alice knew. Why wouldn't she be here for him?
Though, he hadn't really gotten the chance to talk to her alone since she had sent him those pictures with the apron.
He WAS a little curious if the ones she sent him were the only copies of that. 'Cause..........no one else needed to see those. Ahem.

And not surprisingly, Dora was standing right next to Alice near the stage. No doubt she was also here for the other people in the band. 'Cause Dora got on with them real well. What WAS surprising though was that Dora shot him a smile too.
He briefly turned 'round to see if anyone was behind him, but nope. That was for him. Hmm.
She got a smile back. Sup, Dora?

We see you, Schuyler.

FINALLY, he found the one face in the crowd that he was kind of sort of maybe- can't be proven- looking for. His girlfriend was standing tightly with a few other people, but he couldn't help but smile brightly at her for the briefest of moments before the smirk was situated right back in place.
He mouthed back to her, "Maybe later," and went back to working on his drum set for the show. But he was in high spirits today. She MIGHT just get that dance.

After testing the very last tom-tom in front of him, Ascanius adjusted his seat and waited for their gig to start. He took a moment to gaze back out in the crowd when he saw Lottie yanking someone along...

Someone who shot him a nice little wink. Oh yeah, he was SO SMUG right about now. If this was what he could expect from groupies, he was looking forward to their band taking off. Which they would because they were awful talented.
Legit though.
Oh, and she got a wink back. Hey, gorgeous.

Nope, she'd be safely on stage, behind her keyboard, doing the music thing with her guys. Guys that annoyed her to no end, yes...but they were hers. So, what could she do?
BEAM.
...And no, despite how public this party was, the Ravenclaw wasn't nervous. In fact, she was probably the most peaceful she'd been since arriving at the school. There was something about losing herself in the music that caused an amazing adrenaline rush. She'd been anticipating it for weeks; inspiration (via anticipation) hitting her at odd times like quidditch practices and lessons. To quell the growing excitement, Ves had been back and forth with her mum about clothing and the gig...(which her parents were so proud about....shockingly.) Unlike the golden disaster from the Quidditch Awards banquet, this dress was plain black, simply cut...It showed more skin that she would have liked...but she was refusing to think about it. Also, heels...There were heels!...and no, she wasn't upset about them.
It'd taken hours to get ready, of course...a large portion of the time spent on the 'tattoos' littering her skin now. Up and down the outside of her left leg, red flower petals were carefully sketched in clusters, centered by silver gems; a sticking charm being awesomely useful for the occasion. It was so good that Vesper rocked the charms...as it was making this easier without a Dora's help this go 'round. The red flowers were also scattered sparsely on her right forearm and then her right shoulder, one on her collar bone...and then the cheek.
There were reasons for the effort, of course. The main one, though, was that all eyes would be on her...THEM soon...and she HAD to look like an awesomely bad-butt chick. There was no getting passed it. The boys would look awesome. She had to try. And if people DIDN'T know...It was NOT easy for any girl to stand next to them, gosh. Stoopid male models, they were. At least Vesper brought talent to the table.
...And with that singular thought in mind...HER TALENT...she stepped into the Great Hall, attempting to exude all the confidence. She was still peaceful...but the adrenaline was already started to wriggle its way into her veins. Could she just...get on stage already? She wanted to start yesterday. A Nigel and West were already there, of course...and fangirls...Vesper grinned, trying to hide it as she approached. "Seriously, the both of you should know better than to wear suits. These girls stand no chance." Yes, that was playful, wasn't it?
As she stepped up to the stage, she beamed at those assembled. There was a girl...who Vesper thought was named Delilah...Penelope...."Lottie!" She was so PLEASED to see the Hufflepuff girl here...Oh, and there was Ascanius coming in, too. Vesper gave him a rather BRIGHT beaming look...and she might have been bouncing in place...
EXCITEMENT, OKAY?!...but also, STARE. STARING AT BAND MEMBERS. Male models, you know? There was legit reasons for staring. Aheeeem. Charms must have been in place because they didn't look old and stuff.
Standing up from his drum set and making it over to the middle of the stage where the rest of his band was all gathered, he was met with an unfamiliar smile. Was Vesper SMILING at him? And was she bouncing? Jeez, she had to be in just as good as spirits as Ascanius was to not send something witty or snappy in his direction, yeah?
And he had to admit, to himself, in his head, not out loud because just because they were getting along now didn't mean that once this was over things wouldn't go back to the way they were, she looked pretty. He especially liked whatever she did to her legs. 'Course, it wouldn't have been REAL tattoos, but didn't matter. The audience didn't need to know that.
He gave her a warm smile and then turned his attention to Nigel.

99.9 % for them.
Never be one hundred percent. But close enough. Finally they were all here. "Ready as a i will ever be. " Though surprisingly not that nervous. Really now Vesper teasing about suits. Suits were awesome. "I always wear suits to things like this."Nigel said grinning. They were just about done tuning and the only thing left to do was do on stage. Then the real fun starts.
No more practicing with a couple of people watching. Now a whole audience.
"I think we are about ready to start this"
"Nah, man," Ascanius said clasping Nigel on the back, "We got this. You make sure he keep that bass line moving and I'll keep the beat." 'Cause the two of them did do a lot of the actual driving of the music. West and Vesper were all about adding a lot of the emotion and feelings on top of what Ascanius and Nigel put down for them. Team work.
Peaking back at the audience, he nodded. Yeah, seemed like they were just about ready to start.

Then Vesper arrived and wow. West stared a bit, fascinated by the petals, and also by her confidence. "Ves... you look brilliant." Apt word because she kind of shone with it. Like she belonged right here. In her element. He was eager to see if it got even more so when they started.
He did manage to grin at her though and did a little spin to show off his own threads. "Hey, we match." And Nigel was right, it was time. Hopefully their set would go well.
West adjusted his grip on his guitar and moved in front of his microphone. The other one, of course, was set up at Vesper's keyboard in the centre, with West off to her left, and Nigel to her right. And Ascanius and his drumkit at the back.
The music on the soundsystem faded away and he switched the microphone on.
"First off, I wanna thank everyone for being here tonight -we're mostly gonna play a bunch of covers of classic Muggle bands... so obviously professor Hadley should give all of us extra credit for the research." Grin.
"And since this is the Half-Hearted ball... we're supposed to be playing love songs to get everyone in the mood, and well we figure this is close enough. Go Your Own Way, originally by Fleetwood Mac."
And West began to play, and shot Vesper a wink. All you, petal girl.
Ascanius grinned at West and moved toward the back of the band where his drum set was all nice and set up. As soon as he slipped into his seat and rolled the drumsticks between his fingers a few times for agility, he waited for West to start talking. To do the whole pump up the crowd business. West was good at that. Getting people to unify with him and get them all excited about anything he said.
Kind of an ideal person to be heading this right now, yeah?
Actually, now that he thought about it...West had put this whole band together. He had been perfectly content just jamming the two of them like they had all last year before he had the idea. Dead Kneazles. And, y'know, Ascanius was real glad that he was a part of it.
So, like the band always did, he followed West's lead into their first song.
And he slammed into the easy groove that their first song had.
Going off of Nigel's lead, Ascanius started to keep tempo with his bass player and jammed a little in the back. Don't mind the drummer, yeah? Throwing his head into each of his hits, Ascanius really started to sit back into the beat of the song. It had a nice little jive to it and when West got to his guitar solo toward the end of the song, Ascanius riffed a little on his cymbals to help him out. Y'know, before Vesper got all RIDICULOUS with her voice. Which she had always done in rehearsals, but never to the extent she was leaving out on the stage right now.
O___o
Yeah, she could sing.
Jeez, they were killin' it.
He was almost sorry when the first song ended, but then he remembered that they got to do a whole set of music. After all, they were playing for a while. Tons and tons of music to be had.
And Ascanius was bursting with excitement and adrenaline.
NOTHING was like playing live. Actually nothing. It was this insane rush.
So he had to actually put his drumsticks down while West announced their next song SOMEBODY TO LOVE BY QUEEN. Mostly because Queen was stuff that the audience could scream along to...as well as some solo stuff for all of them. Which musicians loved to do.
And with that, Vesper started them off strong. Voice and keys.
Her pizza devoured, Sophie had just raised her head to find her friendship valentine addressing her, much to her surprise. And he looked gooooooood. She gave him a subtle one-over with her eyes, and a grin spread across her face. "No, you! I like your blue shirt. Dapper. Makes your eyes look extra cool." It did, didn't it? But Sophie didn't focus on his eyes for too long - she had scooped up one of the cupcakes on her plate and scooted it toward him as he sat down. "I got you a cupcake." Griiiin. He liked cupcakes, didn't he? Were there people in the world who DIDN'T like cupcakes?
Tobias couldn't help but grin. "Oh stop it, you," he said in a jestful manner, grinning and giggling laughing good-naturedly at the compliment. And oooOOOOOH CUPCAKE. That was handy, Toby had just realised that the food was totally not here and he'd already sat down. Stella forward thinking from Soph. "Ah sweet, thanks Soph."
It was obviously difficult not to notice the band, and Tobias found his attention wandering over to them as he picked crumbs from his muffin and ate it steadily. He knew everyone up on stage, by name and by Quidditch stats. It wasn't even a conscious thing anymore; Quidditch was just the main thing he thought about, after all.
After a few moments of watching and listening and bopping his head gently, Tobias turned his attention back to Sophie. He hadn't missed how frail she looked, and figured it was from the ageing thing that so many people were inexplicably dealing with. Still, he didn't actually mention it out loud, figuring it could be bad form.
"Did I keep you waiting long?" Toby asked instead, noticing a few crumbs that had collected in the fold of his shirt sleeve and gently brushing them away. He looked up and smiled again. "What's there to do here?"
Y'know. For adventuring reasons.

Andrew chuckled and nodded at Justine's suggestion. "Aha, a marvelous idea." He smirked in response. "What shall we blame it on?" He asked, looking around the room for something suitably hilarious. Andrew was usually quite insecure, especially when meeting new people, but he felt completely at ease with Justine. Perhaps it was because he'd seen her around before, but he doubted it. He blushed in self-consciousness when he realized that his table manners regarding the macaroon were perhaps not the best. "Sorry." he shrugged. "They're just really good!" he made a poor attempt at excusing himself. His family had always placed a lot of value in traditional education and politeness. Every single one of his older brothers had gone to Hogwarts before him, and they all had been incredibly successful student. Sometimes that was a lot to live up to, and it was good to just forget about etiquette from time to time.
Andrew definitely wasn't the sort of fellow who became so easily enthusiastic, but he was drawn to this girl, and had become sincerely interested in her words despite the fact that they barely knew each other. Andrew felt this was reason enough to try to show a little engagement as well, as he was really trying his best to move out from under the figurative rock his social life lived under.
"I'll say something else too.." He began. "I love that you sometimes say 'Oui' in place of a boring old 'Yes'."he said, sincerely wanting to make her feel certain that he meant it, which he did. He'd known many people from countries outside his own, and many of them were self-conscious about their accents, especially if they tended to use words from their own language.
"Paris!" he said as she corrected his guesses. "I was totally saying that next. It just felt like too obvious of a choice!" He grinned teasingly. He didn't think it was fair to say that he had really studied languages, as the only teacher he had ever had was himself, but he was relatively competent when it came to quite a few different languages, french included. "Back home we have this big library, you see.." He explained. "I suppose it's a bit of a hobby of mine to read, and learn about whatever I can, and we have a huge section on linguistics." He continued, but paused. He didn't want to bore Justine, and he worried that if he got started on his geeky tangent, he'd never stop!
Justine giggled, watching the young man look about the hall for something to blame, she quickly began doing the same. The band perhaps? Hmm, maybe, she would put it into consideration. What about the decorations? No, not funny enough, maybe they could blame it on the punch? No, she hadn't had that.
Wait. "We can blame it on the pastries," Justine said, with a small smirk, her bright eyes twinkling with amusement, she picked up one of the delicious and colorful macaroons and addressed it with a very stern look. "You sir, are zee reason for our little mis'ap, we do not appreciate your rudeness, nor your conduct," She said, pointing an accusatory finger at the offending macaroon. Though she tried to keep the laughter from her voice, the situation was just too silly and she had to let out a small chuckle.
"Oh no, please do not apologize, I was the one after all, who practically shouted about them," the young woman jokingly reminded Andrew, making light of herself. Justine was not at all offended by the way the boy ate his food, what did it matter to her anyway? He could have transfigured his nose into a trunk and used it to feed himself and Justine wouldn't have blinked an eye.
Justine blushed at Andrew's words, he loved how she said oui, instead of yes? Actually loved it? Well, he certainly was very sweet, and hearing it made her feel a smidgen more confident about her accent then she had been.
"Merci, I mean, zank you, I actually 'ave been trying to stop saying it, I'm trying to accumulate more to 'Ogwarts, and I thought it might 'ell to speak more english, and less French," the young girl said, tucking back a strand that had loosened itself from her previously immaculate up-do.
She was so bad a hair, and make-up, and anything feminine, if it weren't for her magical prowess she wouldn't even look normal through out a regular day, let along look presentable enough for a ball.
"I'm sure you were, it was uh.... Uh, 'ow you say, at the top of your tongue?" Justine teasingly said, pushing the boy playfully as she spoke. Justine was rather surprised at how well she and this boy were getting on, it wasn't that Justine wasn't friendly or anything like that, it had just been a long time since she had really made a new friend (Aside from Louis Bolton).
Justine listened with interest as the Ravenclaw explained how reading was his hobby and that his family had a huge library, and how he had taken a special interest in the linguistic section.
So he, like her, read for pleasure more then anything else, and now she was practically drooling at the thought of a massive private library. " 'Ow wonderful, I always wanted to 'ave a beautiful library, unfortunately we never 'ad the room for one," Justine said, thinking dreamily of all those incredible books. "Please, go on, so you have a section on linguistics?" Justine added, urging the young man to finish his story, she was really quite curls as to how he had learned about the different languages and dialects of her country of origin.

Kace smiled and was glad she was her friend. At least she can change her future now when she is at hogwarts. When he asked her to dance, he hoped she would say yes. He was standing there with his arm out but once she said yes, he smiled and was glad. "Why thank you my lady...!" he grinned and led her to the dance floor.
He maneuvered through people and finally got close to the band. He smiled and starting swinging her arms to try and get her to dance. "Don't tell me your a bad dancer now?" he joked with her.
Anna smiled at him and laughed slightly to his question, "Oh come on, you saw me out on the ice, you think I can't do the same on a non-frozen ground?" She tried to act offended but ended up just giggling through it. Annalee smiled as she danced with him. And the stupid butterflies were getting worse with each beat of the song much as she tried to swallow it down.
She smiled up at him, "Kace... Really, thank you so much for being here for me... You have no idea how much it means to me to know you don't think like everyone else." Annaleecia nodded, "The first one to make me feel like I wasn't such a weirdo or an outcast."
It was as if Ana could read his mind. The Slytherin shot her a grin and a nod before taking hold of her hand and leading her over to the food table. So much good stuff to eat. That pizza looked pretty appetising, his stomach would be pretty appreciative of a slice, or four. He piled a couple of slices on his plate before glancing around at what else was on there. "I better not eat too much before dancing" he chuckled, taking a small bite out of the pizza. Yes. That was pretty good.
His attention was drawn towards the stage when he heard West start talking. Then the band erupted into song and he spotted a few of his friends dancing about at the front. He looked to his girlfriend with an eyebrow raised. "I guess we could always go back to eating" he smiled. "I think its only right I show my dorm mates some support." There were two of them up there after all.
"Fancy a dance?" he asked. Not a slow dance. Not yet anyway but he was sure he'd be dragged up for one of those later.
Ana returned Terry's grin with a small smile of her own as she allowed herself to be led to the food table. Everything looked so good but she wasn't sure exactly what she wanted to eat. Maybe the pizza? She hadn't had that since she was in Italy with Dmitry and wondered how this would compare. Seeing as Terry had already piled some onto his plate Ana grabbed one of the slices off it when he was looking at all the other food. Sharing was caring and all that. Oh and look, her taking a slice of his pizza would make sure he ate even less before dancing. She was being helpful. Totally helpful.
Ana ate the Pizza as she listened to West talk about who the band was and what type of music they were going to play. She was more focussed on her Pizza though until West announced what the first song would be. She loved that song. Absolutely adored it. "The food will wait, and we should definitely support your friends," Ana agreed, turning her full attention back to her boyfriend. Yeah, she liked thinking/saying that word in relation to Terry. So sue her.
Finishing up the crust of her Pizza Ana grabbed a napkin to wipe her hands off before grabbing Terry's hand. "I'd love to dance," Ana responded as she led Terry to the dance floor. Ana was in her element as she danced to the song, singing along all the while. What made it even more enjoyable was that the band was good. The way they were harmonising was amazing and both West and whoever the girl on stage was were great singers.
She was so enjoying dancing and singing along that she almost didn't notice that the song was ending until the music stopped and the next song was announced. Somebody to Love. Another great song to dance to. She wondered if Terry would mind leaving the food for just a bit longer...

Penelope couldn't help but grin at Delilah's excitement. It was cool to see that others were just as excited about seeing them perform. "And not just any concert. A Dead Kneazles concert." Which was obviously better than any other. Not that she'd really been to any other concerts so she didn't have anything to compare it to technically. But she didn't think she needed to.

Ah yes, there was the smile she loved. It was only there briefly, but she still appreciated it. If he wasn't already up there getting ready for their performance, she would've said there was no "maybe" about it, she WAS getting that dance. But that would happen later on. For now, she gave him a grin and a thumbs up and let him get back to work.

She glanced to Nigel...and then to West...and then to Ascanius; the look on her face utterly STUPID with her HAPPINESS.
“Let us dance in the sun, wearing wild flowers in our hair...” *TWIRL*
Fleetwood Mac. Vesper loved that her bandmates got it. That made them WINNERS. *SPAZ*
Finding and grasping her black tambourine loosely, she stepped around her keyboard to allow herself some room. Unlike the piano, this was all about movement...So, 'space needed' was a given.
When West started to actually play, she glanced in his direction, still grinning stupidly. Ugh. FIRST GIG FEELS...and he was pretty. It was both awesome and terrible looking at him.
Finding her 'in', she grasped the body of the mic with her left hand, and moved the instrument in her right, the flower petals on her arm flashing red and pink. Still, no nerves. Not even a little bit. "Lovin' you......isn't the right thing to do..." She forced herself to not look at just one person. Performance 101. "....How can I........ever change things...that I feel?" Her voice sang through, soulful and full of conviction; mainly because she loved this band, this song...and yea, Ves sang it in her bedroom at home A LOT. Why not sing it like you mean it..."....If I could, baby I'd give you my world...but how can I....when you won't take it from me?"
Oh, snap. The beat picked up and she made sure to move her body with the music, allowing herself to get into it...because why not? PERFORMANCE. West joined her in harmonies now...and she couldn't stop herself from grinning cheekily at him. "You can go your own waaaaaaaaaaay....Go your own waaaaaaaaaaay...." Then, she broke off, handing vocal control over to the West. She backed him where he needed it, all the while adding to the rhythm with shakes of her hand.
...And then she spotted Alice. This shouldn't have surprised her or anything. Of COURSE, Alice would be there supporting West...like a good girlfriend. She was standing next to Dora...and Vesper had to stop herself from rolling her eyes, amending that previous thought. Not because of Dora...but because Dora had probably been the one to drag her over here...She was good like that...and Alice was difficult. Vesper knew.
It might have been the performance...or confidence she'd gained from being dressed up and painted, but she narrowed her eyes at the Gryffindor. Did Alice see it? The Ravenclaw hoped so.

It had a nice little jive to it and when West got to his guitar solo toward the end of the song, Ascanius riffed a little on his cymbals to help him out.
OOC. I've got permission for band-moding
And it was starting!
Really good too, not that she expected anything less. Now was her cue to hurry over and pile a few slices of pizza onto a plate and then come back to the front. 'Cause yeah, she was planning on watching and dancing at the front so she could properly see them and everything.
So that was what she did, moving quickly back over to the food table with the pizza on it, grabbing a plate, and then picking up and dropping three slices onto it. She was saving room for more food later, plus it would be easier to eat and dance a little if she only got a little at a time.
She nommed on one piece as she made her way back to the front of the crowd, swaying a little in time with the beat of the songs.

Herself included, not that anyone would be able to tell. A box of hair color and a small potion for the wrinkles soothed everything...except the joints.
She looked down at the blue nail-polish chipping of her fingers. "So...do you dislike this holiday, not mind it too much, or feel like it's the greatest thing on the planet?" After all, he was here alone, yes? No date in sight yet.

Leah watched absent-mindedly at a boy wandering around alone. She watched silently as Hope called him to their table, and started chatting with him like old friends. Only the atmosphere did not really seem like two old friends. Leah jolted out of her own thoughts back to the conversation.
She proceeded to answering Hope's first question. "I don't think we do this every year, do they?" She asked the boy, who apparently was not a first year, and should know more about the school events. "It would be good if we did it next year too, I might have a date." Might. "Although I guess it would get boring after a while. My parents were both in Hogwarts when they were young, and there were no Valentine Parties at that time."
"So... you guys know each other? Met in the summer?" Leah asked the two people. It looked like they had an incident, seeing Hope apologizing. She had known a lot of friends over the summer in Diagon Alley too, and most of them turned out good.
"Obviously I don't looooove Valentine's, I'm a single." Leah replied, pretending to look miserable and sighing into her knees. Actually, she did not mind much. But if she was single until her last year at Hogwarts, she would go crazy for sure. "But I'm glad this is a holiday, we get to have a party, hang around with friends, you know." Like right now!
His view on Valentine's Day? Now that was and interesting question. Ben would have thought his lack of red in his outfit was a certain sigh he wasn't exactly a fan. But maybe it wasn't as obvious as he had originally thought. "Definitely NOT the best thing on the planet," he answered, trying to think of his true feelings. It was kind of up in the air at the moment. "But I'm not sure what I really feel about it."
There was Adi...and Sophie. Over THERE. The Gryffindor turned away again not wanting to give them his attention, at least not at the moment. They were there on their own, it wasn't as if it was his business. No sir...not his. His friend was part of the Valentine-loving, coming as a couple group, NOT the single and on-their own group.
Oh, Leah was speaking up. Benny listened quietly as she spoke with Hope, only speaking up when she questioned them having met before. "Yeah...a rather clumsy incident at the ice cream parlor." But then clumsy was him. It was a wonder he didn't spend a lot of time in the Hospital wing, especially with the changes. His movements limited by the aches and pains of looking and feeling like he was ancient. As for her own views on the holiday, the Gryffindor had to admit there were some positives.
NOT hanging with friends though.
OWWWW loud noise.
The band was apparently ready to start. Ben couldn't help but be thankful that they weren't TOO close the stage but it certainly was gonna take some effort to deal with the loud music. He might just need to wander off if he needed a break from it.
Half-Hearted Ball? Brynn lifted her brown eyes from the table and looked around at all the decorations. This was certainly something and she supposed it did fit with a Valentine's Day theme. So it was a ball.. like a dance? Her eyes flickered to the stage area as some student musicians seemed to be setting up or something, then glanced back at Fern. "Gosh, Fern, you look nice," she smiled at her friend, noticing her pretty dress and sparkly nails. Half-hearted was funny though because that's about what Brynn felt at that moment. Heh. How appropriate.
The eleven year old squinted at the table, grabbing a slice of heart-shaped pepperoni pizza and taking a bite. It would probably give her killer heartburn later, but she was hungry and this would have to suffice. Mid-chew, she glanced back at Fern as she asked questions. Kace? Brynn gave her a kind of weird look then glanced around the Great Hall. Was she looking for him? "Ask me what?"
Oh.
Brynn turned back to Fern and sort of huffed. "Don't you read the school paper?" she started, fully meaning the Aparecium. "Kace is the biggest player in school. I wouldn't go with him anyway. He's weird." Sure, she could admit he was really cute and had those piercing blue eyes, but he was no DC Fontaine. Who she was sure didn't string along girls! Spotting him in the crowd, she pointed him out to the Hufflepuff. "See?" He was totally with yet another girl.
Taking another bite of her pizza, her eyes flickered back to Fern. "So what's the napkin for anyway?"
At Brynny’s compliment, Fern let out a gleeful squeal, [b]“I KNOW! And look Brynny, look! You haven’t even seen the best part! Look-,” She wiggled her seat back and held up one of her feet for the younger girl to see, then twisted her ankle back and forth so the glitter coated heal would catch the light, “how SpARKLY! It is!!”
After several seconds of admiring her shoe, she turned back to her friend, eyes wide and serious, “For the next ball, I can help you pick out your outfit, so you’ll look nice too.” But, Fern eyed the first year up and down once more, maybe Brynny needed more help than that. An intervention. “My friend Angelina, she works at Madame Malkin’s, she’ll know exactly what your signature color is! She helped me find mine!”
Fern matched the weird look Brynny gave her with one of her own. What did Brynny mean, ‘Ask me what?’? And why was she huffing at Fern? And –
”Of course I read it! Why wouldn’t I? If it’s happening at Hogwarts, I’m in the know! Obvy!!” Fern crossed her arms and stuck out her chin in exaggerated offense. She hadn’t seen any of the Aparecium articles since she returned Benzi Rider’s parchment, but Brynny didn’t need to know that. Fern was supposed to be the older, wiser friend.
”Kace isn’t –,” But Fern stopped mid-defense when she followed the Ravenclaw’s extended index finger, to see blue-eyed Kace dancing with Annaleecia Roman. The 12-year-old’s jaw dropped in shock, but her face quickly turned into a look of disgust, “He’s not supposed -,” When Fern had been trying to get him to break things off with Marigold, she hadn’t meant for him to date another Hufflepuff – she had meant Brynny! BRYNNY!! “But what about the – and he – I thought – THAT JERK! I HATE him!”
And she would have marched over to Kace and told him how much she hated him right then and there if it wasn’t for Brynny asking about the napkin and turning the conversation back to what was really important. Fern leaned in, because this news was important, “It’s for Dante Dark! I owled him about the ball, and he’s-,” she paused, glancing quickly at the students who had started performing and the crowd dancing in front of the stage, eyebrows pulling together, then shook her head, “He’s coming. He’s coming because I owled him weeks ago, and you know how we’re true loves.”

Nigel was honestly surprised by the sass Vesper was giving him. Nigel would be laughing if not for the fact he would be going on stage right now and total did not get the fact she was talking to him again. It was hilarious. Okay time to focus. Nigel was having fun strumming his fingers along to this song. It was fully of energy and just awesome. Thank Merlin, for practice though. Without that he would have not know who Fleetwood Mac was.
What surprised him the most was the amazing singing voice the Vesper had. West was being awesome as always and bam Vesper starts singing along.
Guess she really likes Fleetwood Mac.
Nigel feel into a groove listening to Ascanius play the drums and the vocals. It shocked him once the song was over. That went pretty fast. It was pretty energizing playing live for the first time. No onto more songs to play and it came as no surprise to him that Queen would be next. Now this song he could relax for basically the first thirty seconds. Definitely a change of pace and a song everyone can sing along to because who doesn't know Queen.
There was nothing else to do but watch the crowd and silently sing along. You always have to keep the rhythm of the song going on, no matter what.
He had just got the breather he need after the last song had ended. You know with West addressed the crowd and all that jazz. But now the next song was being announced. I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing by Aerosmith.
Not bad. It was a great song to sing along to and was kind of fitting for valentine's day.

Oh, good. He seemed pleased with the cupcake, and Sophie returned an equally elated expression. "Welcome." That's what besties were for, weren't they?
While Tobes helped himself to his cupcake, she peeled the wrapper away from hers and worked on hers, too, and followed his gaze up to the stage. Vesper was a surprisingly good singer, Sophie thought. And she caught Ascanius' smile and returned it to him - he looked like a pro up there, of course, but that boy had dynamite rhythm in his core, she was certain of it. It must've just coursed through his veins. None of it was really dancing music, though, was it? Not the kind of dancing she wanted to see from Tobes. He had moves to show her from that seminar class thing, yeah? Or maybe not, if all the songs were going to be so up-beat and loud.
Which seemed fitting for this particular band so far, so she wasn't getting her hopes up.
"No," she responded simply, turning to smile a cupcake-y grin at him. "Uuuuuum, well - there's the dancing, and I passed a weird... boat-tunnel thing? The Tunnel of Love, it was called, so I guess that's like a ride for couples and stuff to get away from everyone? I saw some games 'n' stuff - and there's a photo booth over there, too," she told him, nodding her head over toward the place in question. "We'll definitely have to do that one. We worked too hard to look good tonight to pass up getting our hotness documented." Hehehehe. Her cupcake finished, she set the wrapper on her empty plate. She glanced up at the stage as a slower sort of song began - Tobes could probably show her his moves with that kind of thing, but it was probably a stretch. "Y'wanna go do something, then? Or d'you see anyone you wanna go talk to?"
He could decide. It was nice to sit down and rest for a little bit, but now she wanted to do something. ANYTHING. Heck, she'd even go for that silly boat ride if Tobes wanted to. She just wanted to spend the time with him.

Still no sign of Mitchell. This was fine. Marigold was fine with this, she was dancing along to the music and even singing a little as well. What she WASN'T fine was her being all alone. She didn't want to crash anyone's conversations, but she saw a couple people she figured would be fine with talking to her. Right? Right. So when the next song started - one of her favorites, by the way - she went over to talk to Toby.
"Sup," she said to him, grinning. HAI TOBY HAI. And his lady-friend too. Hi you.

She still was sad, but she figured her grandpa wouldn't want her to be sad for the rest of her life. She bounced up and down on her heels, looking simultaneously for Mitchell and for West. Except West was onstage. HAI WEST!!! She mailed at him for a minute before examining the other band members. There was Zahra's lover, Ascanius, as well as another boy she didn't know. And some girl... Casper or something?... and saw that she was smiled at West too. She immediately liked her.
Once the song started, she did some side-stepping. Still scanning the crowd for her friend, she smiled. She was happy. .... And not just because of the West-playing-music-part.
Mitchell had no idea why he was here. Actually, he did. Goldie had convinced him to come. And, being the nice guy that he was, he wanted to kiss her again make sure that she stayed happy. She didn't mention what was wrong other than a death in the family.
Apparently a bonsai tree made up for that though. Cool.
He loosened his tie because... well... loose ties just looked better and checked his sleeves again. Yup. There were half rolled up. Just like his sister had instructed him. Perfect. Now all he needed was his... Goldilocks.
... was this a date? He wasn't sure. Probably not. She did say that she wanted to come to check out the person whose name was not Southeast.
He didn't have too long to think about it though before he found the girl he was looking for. "Hey. So... what exactly is fangirling and do I need to be at least three feet away from you at all times?"

Eh that was true. He shrugged and nodded in agreement. "Your right. You are quite the ice skater." he chuckled with her. He was glad she was having a fun time. He was dancing with her and was laughing and having so much fun. He took her hands and danced with her.
Then he heard her talking over the music and he smiled and nodded. "Your welcome..anytime!" he said. "Plus i am a weirdo and outcast as well. We have that in common." he winked and then continued to dance crazily. He even did the funny dance like the chicken dance.

Bart heard all the loud noise and he followed it to see what was going on. Shuffling slower than he would like into the stage area he looked up. Who were these people playing and why was it so loud? He looked around so many people were there, but he didn't really see anyone he knew or did he. Squinting around things were blurry, this was getting more and more ridiculous.
Now the band was playing something else. Bart listened not really knowing the song, but deciding it wasn't too bad. So he started bobbing his head. Then he started shuffling his slippered feet not really moving with the beat, but bouncing in his own dancing way.
Then he saw the couple people.. ugh this was what he was trying to avoid. He thought it was such a waste, but oh wait! Where was his date. He looked around.. Oops he had dropped her. Shuffling over towards the door he picked up his broom again. No need to loose his date now is there.
Eh that was true. He shrugged and nodded in agreement. "Your right. You are quite the ice skater." he chuckled with her. He was glad she was having a fun time. He was dancing with her and was laughing and having so much fun. He took her hands and danced with her.

Annaleecia gave a small laugh and smiled, "Takes a lot of practice, maybe I could teach you sometime." She gently squeezed his hands fighting back the blush that was fighting to come back again. She didn't want to ruin the night... Much as she liked him, she knew he didn't feel the same way, and while it saddened her, she shouldn't let it dampen the night.
She laughed at his dancing but did join him in the chicken dance, smiling as she did, "I have a hard time believing anyone finds you weird!" Anna called over the music and smiled. Not caring if she looked dorky or strange, she was having fun, and it was with Kace, so she was just happy.

Though, he hadn't really gotten the chance to talk to her alone since she had sent him those pictures with the apron.
He WAS a little curious if the ones she sent him were the only copies of that. 'Cause..........no one else needed to see those. Ahem.
And Ascanius got big smiles, too. Did he know Alice was currently envisioning him in a lacy apron? Yep. Some images just never left your head.
But he did look quite nice today, even if he hadn't dressed up at all, so she gave him a wink too. A good luck wink.

Not particularly one of Alice's favorites by that band, but she supposed it was decent. She actually preferred the Dead Kneazles' version to the original, especially since Vesper's vocals proved to be a perfect complement to West's.
Which she was rather jealous of, but they sounded great.
Since Dora hadn't pounced on her and started forcing her to dance yet, she just stood where she had been by the food table and swayed a little to the music. Pity that Alice had given up on grabbing a bite, though, because being preoccupied with a meal would have distracted her from Vesper's look. Look? Why was she....?
"Why is she glaring me?" she whispered to Dora, not backing down from Vesper's gaze. It seemed like a glare. Was it? Why would it be?

The Dead Kneazles. Nice.

Escorting Medea to the best of his abilities to the dance floor, the astronomer was determined despite the shape that his body was in to give his dark haired date a proper dance. Even if it meant more standing in the middle of the dance floor and wiggling slightly. Turning his good ear towards the stage, he could just barely hear the current tune being played and rocked his head back and forth to the rhythm. Stellar choice kids.
He wondered if they took requests, because he had a song that he wouldn't mind using as an accompaniment to an announcement he had.
"May I have this dance?" he asked with a wrinkly smile.

He wondered if they took requests, because he had a song that he wouldn't mind using as an accompaniment to an announcement he had.
"May I have this dance?" he asked with a wrinkly smile.
She'd insisted that she'd be fine with sitting for the night. It would have been perfectly fine. Though, she didn't want to disappoint the astronomer, especially since he looked so determined. The defense professor smiled softly, glancing to him out of the corner of her eyes and letting the music take most of her focus. Oh yes, some of their own lovely students had formed a band for this particular event, didn't they?
They were splendidly good. Looked fantastic up on the stage together too. Their name though...
Oh, the moment of truth. They'd be fine. Wonderfully fine. "Alvays."

Vesper's voice was amazing. West had heard her sing a million times and it just never got old, and he never stopped getting pleasure from it, and feeling pretty lucky that he could sing with her, and play his guitar alongside her killer keyboard skills. And from what he could see, people were getting into it, so that was good. It just made him wanna do even better. All the practice was definitely paying off though. He smiled at that little Marigold kid, since she was out there and apparently enjoying herself, and then picked out his friends, grinning at each of them in turn. AND HELLS YEAH YO GO THEO. Heh. Okay so his best mate wasn't all hung up on Ella anymore... not too much anyways, but still. Kudos. Dancing. Making memories. Good stuff. Mental fist bumps would happen but West had to focus, and in truth was being carried off with the music.
And soon enough they were onto the next song. And then the next, a little slower since well they had to do some slow jams for dance reasons and all. West was enjoying himself, especially riffing off Ascanius and Nigel, and the three of them providing a musical canvas for Vesper to paint with that voice of hers.
Once they finished caning Aerosmith, West ran his fingers through his hair and spoke into the microphone again. "Lets keep it slow, I wanna see more of you dancing out there. This next song is by a band called Lady Antebellum, Need You Now. On account of we need all of you." Cheeeeeeesy grin. Things would pick up a little more on the next tune but for now... Ves began playing the opening notes, and the boys all joined in accordingly. Duet time! He licked his thumb before strumming his first note on his guitar. Yeah, he was gonna make it SING in this song.

Her comment about how he was dressed nice definitely had a hard edge to it, like she was trying to prove a point but it never entirely registered, all that had was the fact that he was trying to not stutter again since it hadn’t been anything which people knew about him and the last thing that needed to happen at this point was anyone else knowing. Was already bad enough that people seemed to think that he was a snob for some reason, which was so far from the truth that it wasn’t even funny. This really wasn’t going to be helping. Just more making things worse. Problem was that he didn’t want to be forced to leave here, since this was supposed to be a good day where nothing went wrong but seeing as that idea was practically impossible now; he wasn’t entirely sure what to do.
“But still, it was completely uncalled for. I don’t want to be made to feel like I’m a little kid or something which was exactly how I felt that day. Of course, no one knew that either.” he commented, trying to keep the stutter from his words but it was getting increasingly more difficult by the moment since he wanted more than anything to be able to forget about it. What a joke that was. Once she had made her next comment, he only blinked before getting what was going on. Now he just felt bad since somehow he forgot about everyone else and was simply talking to her though there was no waiting, so it was more interjecting into conversations. “W-we-ll I-I’m sorry. I-I d-d-didn’t mean to ignore e-veryone. I-I still d-d-don’t do well with t-talking to new people.” he managed to get out, even if it took a lot longer than usual. Wasn’t really a happy day anymore since in the course of less than ten minutes, his girlfriend was mad at him, people around him thought that he was rude. Even if he didn’t know that for sure. It was almost not even worth staying at this point.
As West had made his little comment about people jumping on the bandwagon of guitar playing after he had, Lily had thought about correcting him. At least, her playing had nothing to do with him, considering she’d been playing since she’d been old enough to hold the guitar. Obviously he wouldn’t have known that, and yet she still didn’t say anything. It was possible that there actually were some people who had gone into music because of him, or because of his band. Therefore he was entitled to having a little of an ego, but she was keeping her right to say something if it got too annoying. He was just lucky that his bandmates had arrived, their set had obviously been ready to start, and she’d had other matters to be concerned with. She’d still given the Slytherin on the stage another smile in response to his salute, though, before she’d tried to figure out what was going on with Austin.
First he had basically ignored the fact there were other people there, some of whom she had been talking to, and now he seemed thrown by her being the slightest bit annoyed at how he hadn’t even seemed to have realized it. All she had tried to do was point out that maybe he shouldn’t complain about how people act around him when maybe he was, even unconsciously, giving them reason to. Therefore, even though she would have much rather enjoyed the songs Vesper and West were singing, she’d wrapped a hand around Austin’s wrist and pulled him aside as his argument about things being uncalled for had devolved into something entirely unexpected. “Okay, breathe,” she said, loud enough that he’d hear but using the music to hopefully keep anyone else from listening in. If he was reacting this badly to her simple point about ignoring people, she didn’t want to know what would happen if her asking for an explanation was heard. “I just was kind of trying to say that you can’t expect people to understand you if you act like you’re a little kid. They aren’t just going to know things. And you didn’t have to talk to West,” she said, keeping her hand wrapped around his wrist only to hopefully keep him from running away and hiding. At least, she wanted to explain before she let him go. “You just had to acknowledge him, or anyone for that matter. A nod, a smile. Maybe a hi. I wasn’t asking you to give people your life story.” She knew he wasn’t antisocial. Of course, she hadn’t known about the stutter, but hopefully that would go away if she got him to calm down. “Dance with me?” It might have been a last-ditch effort, but hopefully it would relax him.

Honestly at this point, Austin wasn’t sure if he could have made things worse than he already had seeing as in the process of the last fifteen minutes, he ignored people entirely unintentionally, interrupted conversations that Lily was having with other people, made her annoyed and frustrated which never was something he wanted to do to begin with, and now there was the addition of the stutter returning which really made things more complicated seeing as no one really knew the story behind why that was going on. Sure most people would have assumed that it was from being all wound up to the point where he was upset but there was much more to the story than that, problem was he hadn’t even been sure anyone would want to hear it. Most people thought badly of him already so really there wasn’t much of a point in giving them something to find hilarious for some reason when it really wasn’t. There was absolutely nothing funny about certain things.
Before there was the chance to even consider how to arrange his words, he felt her pulling him away from the stage; potentially so that he wasn’t about to be a distraction to the band or anyone else for that matter. But there almost seemed like there was another reason for why she had her hand on his wrist altogether, one that probably could have been figured out later. As she had started talking, he only stayed quiet. How appropriate. “But I also didn’t have to interrupt your conversations since that makes me look bad, even if I’m not a bad guy; I know manners. I just… I don’t know.” he managed to reply, his words steadily back to normal instead of the stutter returning which would have only proven that he was feeling really bad about things. “I wouldn’t give people I didn’t know my life story anyway, that’s not a conversational subject after all.” The point of the matter was that she was right, even if he knew that just trying to seem friendly sometimes really was the biggest challenge of all. Thinking back to earlier when he was stuttering, he knew that giving Lily the explanation as to what causes that to happen definitely was a smart idea but it wasn’t going to happen here, it could wait. Especially when she asked another question which only brought a smile to his face. “But of course. I owe you a dance anyway from those lessons.” he replied then slid his arms around her waist.
"Maybe you could.." he smiled and he felt her squeezing his hands. He looked up and into her eyes. They seemed brighter and fuller, so he knew she was having a good time. He saw her blushing and he found it cute, but he only thought of her as a friend. Plus he had Emmy now. He liked her a lot more. But he wasn't gonna tell her that, not yet.
"Psshh my parents knew i was weird since day one." he joked with her and still did the chicken dance in the middle of the dance floor. He was just comfortable in his own skin, what was wrong with that? "Now..." he asked breathlessly. "Which dance should i try next?" he asked her with a smile. "Or would you rather slow dance since this song is kind of the right song to do it too." he grinned and held out his hand. It was AeroSmith so he approved.
She smiled and laughed slightly, the image of Kace in her normal partners normal outfit was kinda humorous, but she smiled, "I'd really like to... At least the basics," They weren't that difficult, but she didn't see Kace being about to do the types of skills she had on the ice, after all, she'd been figure skating for as long as the thirteen year old could remember.
Anna shook her head and gave another laugh, "I wish I could say the same." She shrugged, her parents had thought she'd be a normal child, and for the most part she was their normal perfect daughter... but then the magic had to show up and made them see her as enough of a freak to send her back to Russia and keep her in an orphanage for the rest of her days... She mentally shook her head. Tonight was a fun night, she would not start moping about her parents now of all times. After all, she was here with Kace... nothing should make her sad when he was around.
... Then he asked about a slow dance and she felt the butterflies starting up again, but she gave a slight nod to his question, her mind going slightly blank at saying yes. She hated when her nerves got her like this, she kinda froze up. Annaleecia looked at him and tried to just make herself calm down but it wasn't working out to well... The idea of him holding her did make her happy, but it terrified her at the same time. Was it the right time? On top of that what if she did something stupid? Especially with knowing that he didn't like her back... She could slip up and do something idiotic and ruin their friendship.
