The Main Stage and Seating area takes up the whole front of the Great Hall. There are round tables which seat eight or so people scattered everywhere, covered in white tablecloths, and decorated with red roses and place settings. Lit red candles float near the ceiling, casting a warm glow on the diners. To either side of the Great Hall are long trestle tables laden with all sorts of valentines food... only the table on the left features Valentines themed food like pizza with heart-shaped pepperoni, heart-shaped sushi, and pink lemonade, while the table on the right has a more anti-love theme with candy hearts that state slogans like 'cupid stay away', 'it's not me, it's you' and 'leave me alone', and cupcakes with hearts on them that would be cute if it wasn't for the little licorice dagger piercing each heart right through the centre.

Even closer to the front of the Great Hall is a large stage, right where the staff dais usually is. In front of the stage is a sizable dance floor, ready for anyone who wants to get up and show off the skills they learned with Flamsteed. As for the music, that is provided by The Dead Kneazles, a student band consisting of Vesper Bayliss, Nigel Barrington, West Odessa, and Ascanius Stark. They will be performing danceworthy tunes in 20-30 minute sets, and when they aren't up there rocking out for your listening and grooving pleasure, a sound system will play a selection of classic Muggle and Wizarding love and anti-love themed hits.

So come and eat, or dance, or just sit and chatter. Love is in the air!

Or is it?

ooc: Feel free to make up what kind of love or anti-love themed food or drinks your character finds on the two tables! While you may not RP for the band itself, you are more than welcome and encouraged to RP dancing to different songs (and saying what songs are playing on the sound system when the band isn't around), or just listening and watching as your character pleases!

Kace was sitting enjoying the music, when he felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned around and noticed it was Anna! He smiled and got up from his seat and hugged her. "Of course not, have a seat..." he said pulling a chair out for her. The least the gentlemen could do. "Wow you look amazing tonight.." he said nodding towards her dress.

Then he saw a package from her and it was cupcakes. But not ordinary cupcakes...they were valentine themed. He loved them. His sweet tooth was watering. "Oh do not mind if I do..." he said taking the gift and placing it on the table.

Then he thought of his gift. "Oh i have something for you..." he said turning around and picking up the gift he had for her. "I hope you like it." he smiled. "The least i could give to you since you gave me all those gummy worms for christmas." He wanted to be nice and plus who didn't like candy?

Theo chuckled, and hoped Ella wouldn't notice. "Well, before you do, you owe me that dance, remember?" That was pretty much why he hadn't let her escape already. Were the band gonna start playing soon, orrrrrrrr? Oh. His date? Hm. Theo's grin faded to a regular one, because he wasn't bothered exactly, just a bit bummed. "Don't have one." He said, fiddling with his tie once again.

Blushing was happening. Compliments, y'know? And because they were doing the not awkward thing, Ella simple beamed back and nudged him gently in the shoulder. "Thanks for saying that." She wasn't buying it though. Just saying. And Lex was being nice to him? "That is a bit odd. Be careful." Because he might have been kidding about the poison stuff but who knew, yeah? "And you're not allowed to die, didn't you know? Head Girl's rules and all." Power had its privileges. And that giggling? N'aww. Cue more grinning from the eighteen year old.

"I guess that's true." She hadn't really noticed to be honest. Spent most of her time in the library these days, or out on the pitch. Who had time to keep up with the love lives of Hogwartians? And the shuddering? Ella shouldn't be so amused by it but she let out a soft laugh before shrugging her shoulders.

If he was laughing at Alec, which Ella was hoping wasn't the case, she was going to ignore it so that no fighting happened. Arguments with Theo were the worst and they'd spent too much time not talking, yeah? So play nice, Theodore. "Mhm, I remember. You want to dance now or?" The music from the sound system was nice enough but she was sort of keen to wait for the band to start up. Wanted to listen too and all. As for him not having a date, Ella smiled a little and raised her eyebrows. "I know your game, Theodore Kinsley." Grin. "You're just here solo so you can sneak in and ask Bellaire to be your Valentine."

Heh.

She'd pay to see that, did he know?

"Yeah. Just have to find her once this is over" Which will be a lot fun considering all the people she knows at each station. Nigel said hi to Delilah and Penelope.....And even Lottie was here. Which was probably for the other three in the band.

Never be one hundred percent. But close enough. Finally they were all here. "Ready as a i will ever be. " Though surprisingly not that nervous. Really now Vesper teasing about suits. Suits were awesome. "I always wear suits to things like this."Nigel said grinning.They were just about done tuning and the only thing left to do was do on stage. Then the real fun starts.

No more practicing with a couple of people watching. Now a whole audience.

She smiled and nodded, “Glad to hear it.” Annaleecia twisted one of her curls, “They took a long time to make so you better like them too.” She gave a small wink and giggled. She looked at the box he offered and smiled as she opened it.

“Kace, you really didn’t get me anything.” She smiled at the candy hearts though, thinking they were really sweet, not to mention one of her first actual gifts since her parents had sent her to the orphanage, “Thank you so much.” Anna hugged him tightly and smiled, “I haven’t had any gifts from anyone since I was sent to the orphanage… I really appreciate it.”

Whaaat? Alex was surprised to hear that Bay didn't have a date either. She felt a little better knowing that she wasn't the only one going solo. Apparently he hadn't heard her mumble that she was alone because he asked about her date. "Oh, I'm not here with anyone either. I'm just lucky to have friends who don't mind me tagging along. Besides you don't necessarily have to have a date to have a good time, right? At least she hoped so.....so far so good anyway.

He stepped back and bowed to her "it would be my honour to escort you around tonight at this dance.. i'll be your designated dance partner..if you want" he quickly added, hopefully that was okay with her.

Andrew's hand.
"Justine, it is a pleasure to meet you," The young girl happily said, she was a naturally friendly girl, and loved meeting new people, especially since transferring to Hogwarts.

"I have seen you in the Common Room! I zhink we are even in the same year," Justine said thoughtfully, taking another small bite of macaroon.

"No, no, the fault was entirely mine, I'm very sorry."
Andrew had to admit it himself: He was absolutely intrigued by this girl. He had never met anyone like her, and certainly never at Hogwarts. She was so friendly, and she practically oozed intelligence. In a word, she was 'refreshing'. As far as he could tell, she hadn't been put off by his formal fashion sense, or the way he tore into the macaroon she had offered him. "Thank you." He just barely remembered to add as he accepted it.

Andrew adjusted his tie once more, having suddenly become self-conscious of his appearance in the presence of the radiant young woman. He remembered very clearly having seen her around the common room, but it was also awfully clear that they hadn't actually spoken before the Half-hearted Ball.
"Justine!" He nodded enthusiastically. "I knew it was something with a J! It's very nice to met you!" He laughed. "You have a very interesting accent." He commented. "It's beautiful. Is it.. Normandy? No, wait, don't tell me.. Roussillon?" He added, fancying a guess at which french province Justine had grown up in. Chances are he was wrong, as he was no actual expert on France, but he was somewhat of a linguist.

"Go on, tell me. How wrong am I?"

She just had to point out Delilah. Jeremiah turned to look in the direction she was mentioning, towards the stage, and sure enough there she was, Delilah.

Hmmmmm? Kinda both? So it was neither. How cute, Lottie had given Jeremiah an excuse if someone actually asked him the same question she had. It was doubtful someone was to ask about his tie, but still. So, she nodded, and did nothing else... until he complimented her. Lol! Wait, what? "Only nice? That's rather disappointing," she said, totally joking, though, "I know, though, so thank you." He did a good job on himself, only she failed to mention this. Entirely on purpose.

Also, thanks for asking how she was doing, Jeremiah, thank you indeed.

Granted, she didn't have time to dwell on this because... seriously? Did she know the band? 3/4 of it, anyway. "You don't know who they are? You have to at least know who West Odessa is." Well, yes, she was slightly surprised at this. Then again, Jeremiah was sort of new. And there were no Gryffindors in the band. He wouldn't know who Ascanius and Vesper are, but West? ~~And he probably ought to know who Nigel is.~~ "Hint: Slytherin Captain." Just so you know, Jer.

this was obviously a big deal, though he didnt break a sweat or tremble cause he was rather good and keeping all his flaling and freaking out internal and didnt let things show. Terry had never been the sort of person to celebrate Valentines Day. He had never really liked it, found it a little pointless and over-the-top but this year was slightly different. The seventeen year old was arriving to this ball and heading towards the lovey dovey side rather than the anti-love side that he would usually orientate towards. And that was all because of one person. Ana.

Wearing a matching waistcoat and tie to her dress, the Slytherin walked into the Great Hall with her on his arm. He flashed her a brief crooked smile before avoiding the crowds and leading her towards one side of the room. "It's quite crowded already" he commented, glancing around at the dancing couples and the anti's on the opposite side. Still it looked pretty impressive, Alec and Ella and the rest of the prefects and captains had done a pretty good job he thought. Though they were mostly his friends so he would say that but it was a genuine thought.

He could smell the food even though it was some distance away and from what he could peer at, it looked pretty appetising too. Would it be bad to eat something straight away? You know, satisfy his stomach before he was dragged up for a dance with his girlfriend. Not that he would object of course.

And then there was Cutty. Wrinkly, wrinkly Cutty, who was looking quite the turtle and carrying a camera around his neck and who out of the corner of his eye was keeping up with his payment for Pro-Quidd information from a former Harpy. Payment. It should've been thought of more as a duty or even a promise, but Cutty cared nothing for such things. At least, not as of that day and the days leading up to.

This was the Dead Kneazles, the snippets of guitar licks he'd heard in his common room gave him enough insight to understand that this would be worthwhile. He'd be getting a good seat once the band began to start, but for now he was content to hover keeping Hope Evans in his sights.

Ana had always liked Valentines Day. From when she was little she thought it was pretty great to have a day to celebrate being in love. A day when you could act all lovey dovey with your partner and not get looked at as if you were a pariah for doing so. Although ironically over the past few years she hadn't been all that excited about Valentines Day. Maybe because she was in a relationship and knew that having an attentive and loving boyfriend on one day of the year didn't make up for all the other days when that person broke your heart? This year though she was happy about Valentines Day again all because of Terry. She knew he didn't really see the point in celebrating it but he was doing so for her and so far he was attentive and kind every day since they'd met.

That was why she was glad to get dressed up, even happier that Terry had decided to match with her since she hadn't been expecting it, and walk into the Great Hall on his arm. Everything looked great, even the side for the Anti's looked good. The prefects and captains had really outdone themselves and she was slightly in awe of everything. Ana nodded in agreement when Terry commented on how crowded the hall already was, although she'd been expecting that, and allowed him to lead her over to the side. It seemed like most of the school was here, which was probably because this ball was promising to have something for everyone.

"Do you want to grab something to eat?" Ana asked as she looked up at Terry. She could smell the food from here and it was making her just a bit hungry. It might be a little early to start eating but as the food was out she was sure no one would actually mind. Besides, she figured they could maybe find a seat and have something to eat before she dragged him onto the dance floor.

And there was Vesper, who was looking very happy and unique. Those tattoos (or whatever the word for them were?) looked really neat. Very different from what anyone else was wearing tonight, but a good different. "You look really nice, Vesper," Penelope pointed out matter-of-factly with another smile.

Alex was surprised when Bay offered to be her escort for the evening. Well why not? With a smile spreading across her face, Alex gave Bay a curtsy. "It would be my pleasure", she said. Who said Valentine's Day couldn't be about two friends hanging out and enjoying each other's company? This night was getting better and better. "Thank you for coming to my rescue. I know we'll have fun.". Here's to redefining Valentine's Day!

Sander placed his hands to his heart, pretending that he had just been hit there, "You have just shot an arrow through my heart, name twin. How could you ever think that I would forget you. I'm deeply saddened," Sander feigned sad puppy dog eyes as he looked over at Alex before breaking into a grin.

"Now you're going to have to owe me two dances, and I'll make sure you pay up before the night is over," he winked at her.

Then he turned his attention to Bay.

"I guess you're right. Besides Tessa's always beautiful no matter what she wears, so I don't really mind wearing accompanying colors. I'm just happy to be with her," Sander told Bay even as he leaned over to kiss Tessa on the forehead.

Sander could help but smile. He was glad that Bay had asked Alex to be his date for the night. Now both his friends had someone to dance with....when he wasn't dancing with Alex and Bay wasn't dancing with Tessa and Lux.

Appearing possibly more frail and thin than usual, Sophie still felt like a princess in her pink ballerina-like dress. And she also felt super cool with her black leather jacket that she paired with it. It felt like a good safe medium, and she didn't want to freak Tobes out if she had come without the jacket - she might've looked like she was trying too hard and could've made him think she liked him or something. The jacket added a nice grunge look that fit well with her attitude, but the princess-like look was a match, too. Soph was a mixed bag, and her apparel tonight exemplified that perfectly, she thought.

So her head was held high as she entered the ball by herself. After taking in how great of a job the student leaders had done with decorating, she peered around for her date for the day - eh hem, her friendship valentine - but she couldn't find him amidst the crowd. That was okay. He'd probably find her. For now... she was going to grab some food - she shuffled toward the pro-Valentine's day food selection, naturally, and helped herself to pizza with heart-shaped pepperoni, two pink cupcakes with red candy hearts atop(one for Tobes when she found him), and a glass of pink lemonade - then she took a seat to rest her weary bones while she ate, keeping her eyes peeled for a certain Hufflepuff while ignoring all other people around her. Were other friends around? She didn't know. She just wanted Tobes.

Andrew had to admit it himself: He was absolutely intrigued by this girl. He had never met anyone like her, and certainly never at Hogwarts. "Justine!" He nodded enthusiastically. "I knew it was something with a J! It's very nice to met you!" He laughed. "You have a very interesting accent." He commented. "It's beautiful. Is it.. Normandy? No, wait, don't tell me.. Roussillon?" He added, fancying a guess at which french province Justine had grown up in. Chances are he was wrong, as he was no actual expert on France, but he was somewhat of a linguist.

"Go on, tell me. How wrong am I?"

"I 'ave an idea, instead of each of us blaming ourselves, we blame something else entirely," Justine said coyly, laughing lightly as the boy claimed the fault much like she herself had before. Now that Justine thought about it, all the people she had met had been happy accidents, that was a bit worrying as she usually made friends with relative ease, but then, she couldn't much blame herself, she'd had a hard year and was still recovering from the divorce and moving to England with her father.
Justine smiled in amusement as Andrew devoured the macaroon with gusto, ether he didn't care about table manners or he was starving, ether way, it didn't matter to Justine, she just found it kind of funny. "You're welcome," She said.

At the boys enthusiastic response to her name, Justine had to laugh, it was rather adorable, even more so because he didn't seem like the enthusiastic type. She shook her head, her earrings twinkling with the movement. "Oui, it does definitely start with a J, and it's very nice to meet you too," Justine said.

She smiled as Andrew complimented her accent, really she found her voice rather annoying, it was a little deep and tended to occasionally sound too sincere for her liking, not at all soft or sweet like the other girls at Beauxbatons had sounded. "You are very sweet, thank you," She said, before listening as he attempted to place her accents origin. "Ah, you are not very wrong, no, just a little.... Paris, though I spent some time in Giverny, it might be why you 'ad trouble with it," Justine replied. She was impressed enough that he had tried, or that he understood the difference between the dialects, as most people had no idea.

"You were close, do you study language?" The young woman asked.

Bay laughed when she curtsied. D'awww she's to cute… "No problem..and we will have the most fun" he said while sticking out his arm for her to take.. "I won't leave you all night.. you want some pumpkin juice and i'll go running for ya" whats the harm in treating a girl like a queen for the night.. Alex was one of the nicest girls he knew and she totally deserved it. He gave her one of his famous winks. "and defiantly let me know when you want to dance..i might forget" he laughed.

SPOILER!!: Sander

Bay couldn't help but help but blush.. they were way to cute of a couple.. he's even just started calling them "Sandessa" for they are normally together. "you awesome man" he told him… he noticed when Sander smiled at him and Alex going to have fun together, he gave him a big smile right back.

Adelaide decided to go down to the ball. Sure, she wasn't too excited about the Valentine's Day thing, but her friend's were the entertainment for the evening so she had to go to support them. The only thing making her feel semi-decent was that she got herself dressed up. For some reason, that always helped.

Addi stood awkwardly to the side, taking everything in. Kissing booth and Tunnel of Love. Definitely a Valentine's Day ball. She let out a sigh and grabbed an open seat. She knew Derry and everyone else had to be here somewhere, but she didn't feel like searching. So she just sat. Maybe she should've just stayed in the dorms...

It was a given that Dora wasn't going to watch her friend's band from waaaaay back at her stupid booth, yeah? Because she wasn't. Not when it was their first gig, and not when she was never a back seat girl. The sixteen year old had a hold of Alice's hand as she made her way through the crowd that'd already formed, not really saying excuse me so much as parting them where needed with looks and hand gestures.

Very polite of her.

"I want two dances. And I can't let you dance on my toes unless I take off my heels." Which she would if she had to but Alice would be fine dancing on her own two feet, yes? Yes.

When she got to the stage she waved at EVERYONE up there.

Even Ascanius.

They all got grins too.

Alex smiled at Sander's sad face. "Well I am pretty unforgettable", she said laughing. "Two dances though, that's a pretty steep price.......but for you, I'll make an exception. Now go on, have fun with your date and later.....we dance."

She saw him glance toward the Tunnel of Love and gulped. What was that thing anyway? What happened inside the tunnel? Would she have to kiss him? She was just about to mildly panic, when Adi suggested something completely different. "Oh, there's a photo booth? Cool! Let's go make some memories and document this night!" she replied. Hee hee. It was pretty much her first date, after all. She wondered if it was his first date, too.

She turned and started to walk in that direction, but Adi surprised her by having a gift for her. She smiled at him and took the box. Opening it, she revealed a pretty heart bracelet. "Oh, I love it! Thanks, Adi," she said. But then--... "You've gotten me so many gifts already, and i haven't you anything yet." She frowned. "Next Hogsmeade weekend, you have a free box of candy--my treat."

She was casual about things until Adi changed the WHOOOOOOLE atmosphere in the next second. He kissed her on the cheek. She froze and her face turned a light shade of pink. "Errr..." She blinked, trying to compose herself. "Thanks, Adi. I, err..." She smiled and finally said, "Sorry. That was sort of...my first kiss and all."

Well, well, well.

These Dead Kneazles were playing for the school! Pretty cool gig. And even cooler because on top of getting to hear some of her friends play the music, Schuyler would also get to dance.

Not yet, though. They weren't even playing yet. Also, first the Gryffindor was going to go get some pink lemonade because that looked very tempting. She would also be a good girlfriend and get a glass for her lovely date, yes. As she walked on over to the refreshments tables, she smiled over at kneazle Nigel and kneazel West. Oh hiiiiiiiii, boys. Finger-waggling wave.

Were they all tuned up yet?

Plus she commented on how handsome he was which he liked. He even saw her blush. He knew she liked him, but he didn't wanna call her out on it.

"Well enough of this gift giving bonanza, let's go out and dance. I mean this band is playing really good music." he said his foot tapping. He got out of his seat and offered her his hand to take her out on the dance floor. "Would you care to dance with me Ms.Anna?" he asked all proper like.

She let Dora drag her without complaint, mostly because these shoes had no proper grip and she couldn't resist anyway- see why she needed sneakers? But Alice's submissiveness was also due to the fact that her eyes were glued to the stage. Why were Vesper and West MATCHING? Surely black and red attire wasn't band dress code, as Nigel was decked out in white and Ascanius was wearing Merlin knew what.

..... and usually, dates were the ones who color coordinated their outfits. Ahem.

"I promised you one and only one dance," Alice stated seriously, directing her gaze back to Dora and trying to look as if she hadn't been staring up there. No questions, please. "You're gonna get stepped on, then. And I'm gonna trip. And stumble. And probably fall over." Weren't best friends supposed to save her from the embarrassment, not advocate it?

"I want to get food." Yeah. Clearly. That was why Alice had come over here, unlike all the other Dead Kneazles groupies. Food and just food.

Maybe for the band a little, but mostly for their lead guitarist and stuff. He was pretty.

Alex took Bay's arm when he offered it and said, "Thank you kindly sir". "We will have a fun time tonight." Bay was so sweet and quite the gentleman. "I am a very lucky girl, she added." She was very lucky indeed. Let the partying begin.
