A large number of floor-to-ceiling bookcases fill up the library, creating aisles upon aisles of books available for students to read and browse. To make finding books for all years a little easier Mr Kitridge has divided the bookshelves into sections like romance, suspense, crime, history, plants and fungi etc.
To return books just walk up to the appropriate shelf and hold up the book. The gripping charm in place on the shelves will take a hold of the book. When you feel a tug on the book let go and the book will fly up and find its right place amongst the other books on the shelves. When retrieving a book you can use the sliding ladders or if you feel confident with your magic you can use a simple accio charm to retrieve the book you want.
In front of each aisle there is small set of desks which students can use to complete homework, copy notes, take book references or chat. Keep your voices down and be mindful of falling books and other students accessing books around you.
It took her a while to get there with the moving stairs and all, but Brynn finally made it to the library. Not that she would have normally minded the staircase and seeing where she might end up, but that was only when she wasn't trying to get to somewhere specific. And she was on a mission today.
After talking to that other first year girl, the redhead decided she had to go visit the library. One, she wanted to see if it was anywhere near impressive as the girl said and two, she was determined to find a spell or two after a certain school paper started telling lies about her. Frowning, she put that thought out of her head. She did not like what had resulted from it and didn't want to think about it right now. Learning something new might take her mind off of things anyway.
Once she walked in, Brynn couldn't help but to stop and stare, taking in the sight. It was everything the other girl had said, much more vast than the bookstores she had visited. In fact, it was slightly overwhelming to the short girl and she didn't know where to start first. She wandered over to the nearest bookshelf and turned her eyes upward trying to decide on a title.

Ian nodded at Christmas and smiled. Yeah. He is very nice however. What is the book's subject. Perhaps I can help. I've spent lots of time browsing these aisles. He looked up to see what section they were in.

Leah absolutely hated reading, so she was quite surprised to find herself in the library. She did not mean to come here, she just happened to reach the library while wandering around the fourth floor. The girl, not wanting to leave the place immediately, entered the bookshelves and started looking at the various titles, occasionally taking down some Daily Prophet newspapers.
That was when she noticed another girl her age, also looking for books. Leah stopped trying to look interested in the books and went over to her, eager to make another friend. "Hi, are you a first year? My name's Leah. Are you looking for a book, or are you just browsing?" She asked quietly, as she had been told by her parents before that silence was needed in a library.

Ian listened and then noticed they weren't in the correct area. We seem to be in the wrong place. It appears we're in the mythical creature area. I think potions might be a couple aisles over. Want to check? Or I can go and let you know.
Altair's heart jumped when she did. He certainly didn't mean to startle the poor girl. She looked about as nervous as he did. Maybe she was new too? "Uh thanks," he grinned as he took a seat. "It's nice to meet you Har-oo-kah," he said carefully, hoping he pronounced her name right. He certainly knew what it was like to have a confusing name. "I'm Altair," he said as he emphasized the three syllables in his first name. "How are you liking Hogwarts so far?" he asked assuming she was a first year like him.
"It's nice to meet you too, Altair," Haruka responded kindly. Altair was an interesting name. She doesn't think she's ever heard it before. "Where does your name come from?" She asked curiously.
"I'm liking Hogwarts fine," Haruka replied. "What I've seen of it, at least. I haven't really explored much." She fiddled with her book again. "How about you?"

"It comes from my back," Altair laughed knowing that he'd probably get a strange look from the girl, but he began to explain, "Its the largest star in the constellation, Aquila. I think my mum was into astrology or something." At least that's what he assumed because his little sister had a starry name as well. But he actually had the birthmark to prove it.
"I'm just focusing on not getting lost," he lightly chuckled. He could recall coming across a swamp on his way to his common room. "I'm a little nervous about actually casting spells. I haven't even tried yet." Out of the corner of his eye he caught a glimpse of red, and it wasn't from a Gryffindor, but a small ginger girl he'd seen before.

"Psst," he hissed over in Brynn's direction. "Hey!" Altair gave a slight wave. They had a brief conversation about adapting and their family life, but it was all kind of a spur of the moment kind of thing. But, he was amazed at how much they kind of chatted about in that amount of time. Now, to think about it, he couldn't even recall telling the girl his name, nor her tell hers. Altair started to blush at his realization of his rudeness.
"Excuse me a moment," he said to Haruka before he got off his chair and actually went over to the redheaded Ravenclaw.
"I don't know if you remember me," he said as he walked up to her. "We kind of bumped into each other and talked a bit?" Altair was sure she probably talked to lots of people and probably wasn't such an introvert like himself, but he thought maybe he could refresh her memory. "I thought you had ink squirting abilities," he laughed as he recalled their first conversation. "I don't think I introduced myself before. I'm Altair," he said as he extended his hand. "Would you like to join Haruka and I? We were just talking about our first impressions of Hogwarts."

Oh maybe that book? Brynn began to reach towards the shelf when she heard a sort of hissing nearby. She stopped, trying to listen, though she did not turn in the direction of the sound until she heard a hey. Brown eyes scanned the area, landing on a pair of kids about her age, a boy and a girl. And the boy was familiar. Altair, wasn't it?
"Hi," she waved back, giving the boy a smile and watched as he took a few steps in her direction. Oh yes, she remembered him. Most likely unbeknownst to him, his friendly conversation came at a time when she most needed it, right after a fight with her best when she was feeling horrible. Though she wasn't so sure if they were best friends anymore. Pushing that thought out of her mind, she turned back to Altair.
"I remember," she nodded happily, then laughed a little bit as he recounted their conversation. It had been a pretty funny misunderstanding as was the mental image. Taking his hand, she shook it, then decided to offer her name as well, wondering if he maybe had forgotten in their brief passing. "I'm Brynn."
The redhead gave a glance to the girl sitting nearby as the boy mentioned her, then she nodded again. "Sure," she grinned, happy to have some company for the moment. Brynn gave the girl a little wave as she walked over and took a nearby seat. "Hi, I'm Brynn.. Is this your first year too?" She knew that it was Altair's from him telling her and this girl looked about their age too. "So what do you both think of Hogwarts?" She looked up at the boy as he mentioned their topic of discussion. "The moving staircases are really cool, aren't they? Sometimes it's fun to just go on them and see where you end up." As long as you weren't running late for class, that is. "And the grounds are so big!" Well, the castle was too, really. There had been so much to explore and she was sure she hadn't even seen half of it.

Okay Robin knew that she had told herself no looking at books until she was caught up with her notes but... she couldn't help herself! Plus if she was to catch up she needed some books right? right. Or at least that's what she told herself as she veered into the bookshelves. "Three. limit yourself to three books" she whispered, already having the books she was going to pick in mind.
The Ultimate Guide to Herbology was definitely number 1 on her list, she wanted to learn about all the plants and fungi that could be used as medicines or antidotes, and also how to grow them. It made her think of her halmeoni, her grandma was always trying out new plants to put in her herbal teas.It was a subject she definitely wanted to do well in.
The next was How Not To Blow Off Your Fingers On The First Day by Julius Gummidge, the reason for picking it pretty obvious- she was terrified one of these days she was going to make an explosion and, well, blow off her fingers. She shuddered at the thought and continued roaming the shelves, she would go to the stained glass room the librarian pointed out after she was done here.
The last book she had to get, for much less exciting reasons, was Spellman’s Syllabary, simply because she without a doubt needed to brush up on her Latin and be able to figure out spells.

Ian grinned at the girl. Off we go then! He turned on his heel and headed toward what he believed was the section with potions. He looked down the aisles as he passed them and then up at the labels. As he gets to the third aisle, he sees the label for magical concoctions and heads down that aisle and begins looking up at the books.

Ian was looking at the book titles and noticed the girl's voice next to him. Sorry. I didn't catch what you said at first. I get easily distracted by the books. Yes. I do enjoy it. He grinned back at her. What about you? Are you a fan of books or only when you have to read for schoolwork?

Ian listened to her answer, since he'd not done such a good job at it before. What sort's of things do you do besides schoolwork? Have you many friends then?

This was interesting. She was trying out for the quidditch team. Sweet! I'm trying out for my house's team as well, but I don't think I'll make it. I haven't played much before. What about you? What position are you trying out for? She had also mentioned that she was looking for more friends. Well, I could be your friend. Mum told me I should meet more people. And you're a people.

Haruka looked at Altair, confused. She listened when he started to explain, but she was still a little lost, so she just went with it. Astrology names are always cool.
She nodded in agreement about trying not to get lost, and smiled assuringly when he mentioned being nervous about casting spells. Then Haruka noticed that Altair was distracted by something, and watched as he went over to talk to a red-haired girl looking for a book. She sat up nervously as Altair began walking over with the girl, but smiled kindly nonetheless.
SPOILER!!: Brynn

"I'm enjoying Hogwarts just fine," she said, and listened as Brynn discussed the staircases. "I really haven't seen much of the school yet. The library was my first stop." Haruka fiddled with her sleeve shyly.

Wow! Ian thought. You've played a lot of Quidditch. I bet you'll make it. Maybe you could help me learn some? Even if I don't make it I'd like to learn.
He smiled wider when she said he could be his friend. He didn't expect someone older than he to think it was ok to have such a young friend.

Ian blushed a little at the laugh, but looked up at the tomes again. Any thoughts on what it might be called? I mean I don't have any other plans so I could look through the whole row and we might be able to figure it out. It was nice being able to help someone out, but also to make a new friend.
