| | Library Bookshelves A large number of floor-to-ceiling bookcases fill up the library, creating aisles upon aisles of books available for students to read and browse. To make finding books for all years a little easier Mr Kitridge has divided the bookshelves into sections like romance, suspense, crime, history, plants and fungi etc.
To return books just walk up to the appropriate shelf and hold up the book. The gripping charm in place on the shelves will take a hold of the book. When you feel a tug on the book let go and the book will fly up and find its right place amongst the other books on the shelves. When retrieving a book you can use the sliding ladders or if you feel confident with your magic you can use a simple accio charm to retrieve the book you want.
In front of each aisle there is small set of desks which students can use to complete homework, copy notes, take book references or chat. Keep your voices down and be mindful of falling books and other students accessing books around you.
Happy reading and learning! |

So far, she was enjoying her time at Hogwarts; it was nice to get away from being put in the spotlight by her parents.
People didn't know her here, and that's what made it nice. She was starting fresh.
She stopped walking when she got to the romance section and looked at the title of the book her finger was pressed up against. Hm... She looked around to see if anyone was watching before pulling the book from the shelf.
Generally, Cosette Beaulieu was not one for romance, but she was curious. Somehow while trying to find the section of the library that had books on Quidditch, Lux had managed to get herself lost... Ending up in the dreaded romance area.
EWWWWW, THE HORROR.
Not even wanting to glance at the titles of these disgusting books, she kept her gaze on where she was walking, hoping that she would spot the librarian and ask him where the Quidditch books were. But then, if he had any sense he would not be anywhere near these books either.
With no librarian in sight, she did however spot a girl studying the books. Since she was older, maybe she could tell her instead. Deciding to give it ago, she approached her. "Excuse me, do you know where the Quidditch books are?" |

"Excuse me, do you know where the Quidditch books are?" Cosetta was rather fascinated by what the book she was skimming had to offer: princesses, far away magical lands, and a cute little animal that journeyed with the princess to find her prince. She was not one to gush over happy endings and boy meets girl scenarios because well, she had bad luck when it came to guys -- and gushing over what she would never have was just a waste of time.
When she heard a little voice coming from nearby, she looked up from her book and.... down to this little redhead standing near her. "Uh, Quidditch?" She asked, and her French accent very noticeable. "I'm sorry but no. I'm new here, so I don't even know where the children's books are." She gave the little one an apologetic look before turning back to her book. |

It caught it what she thought was the right way and she whipped around to see if there would be a secret passage yawning to her.
But no.
The book came into her hand, revealing its title: "Watching Grass Grow." Tessa made a face and quickly placed the book back. "Not that book," she assured the librarian. What was the girl up to Leo wondered silently as the girl declined his offer of help. Maybe she liked to browse for books by herself but something about her behaviour didn’t feel right to him. Worst case this was just another student hoping to find a secret way into the restricted section of the library where there were none to find. Leo had made sure of that when he first started to work here.
Rolling up his parchment again he went down the same aisle as the girl was in. As he passed her he caught a glance of the book she quickly put back with a grimace. "Not an aspiring plant expert?" he enquired quietly as he went down check the small section dedicated to flesh eating plants.

Haruka walked quickly through the library, careful not to catch anyone's eye. She relaxed only when she was hidden by the bookshelves, and let out a sigh. She was in awe of the size of this library. She'd been to a library before, of course, and she had books at home, but not this many and never one this big. She smiled comfortably as she ran a hand along the spines of the books in front of her. This was, officially, her new favorite place in the school.

O_O
Having a hard time understanding her, Lux squinted slightly as if that would help. And weirdly enough, it seemed to a little. Huh. "Well, I'm new here too..." So the girl did not need to feel bad about that in the least. Children's books?!?! "Quidditch is a sport." Did this poor girl not know what Quidditch was? Did they not have Quidditch in France? If not...the poor, poor country deprived of the most fun game ever. |

Thank the Antipodean Opaleye, Silver was moving on to another subject. One that didn't involve boys. And...Bev went ahead of herself. Of course it would all end up back to the subject she DID NOT want to discuss.
There was a solution out of this, though.

"How can your spirit animal not be your patronus? Isn't it the same thing," she said. Another subject. Yes. Good question Beverly. Good question. "I dunno?--" She shrugged her shoulders then got lost in deep thought. "I haven't seen my patronus, so I don't know." Silver lightly giggled.
Hmm. Beverly would probably be a beaver.
Hahaha get it? Beaver--Beverly? "What would your spirit animal be, Beverly?"
Was she genuinely having an intelligent conversation, with another human being? Yes. Yes she was.

It worked!
Realizing she had been clutching to the book, she closed it and held in her arms. "You do look young to even be able to cast one," Bev commented. Silver looked to be around her age, or maybe older by not much. It was the way the girl held herself: knowing in the boy department, but not quite that experienced.
What would her spirit animal be? Well...she hasn't even ever THOUGHT about her Patronus. Hmm.
She shrugged. "I don't know. Something that likes being free, yet not quite alone." Beverly paused. "Maybe...a dragon." An Antipodean Opaleye to be exact.
That would be the GREATEST thing ever!

"Not an aspiring plant expert?" he enquired quietly as he went down check the small section dedicated to flesh eating plants. Tessa could feel the Librarian's eyes on her and winced internally. She hadn't wanted to attract attention... nor did she want to get in trouble. Some Professors let their students be, but some assumed that she was up to mischief. She was, but not any mischief that would hurt anyone- or at least she hoped.
At his question, she instantly made a face. "No thank you," she said, putting the book back as quickly as she could. She watched as the Librarian walked away, debating on whether she should ask him or not. Would it sound ridiculous, would he get angry... or would he join her in the search?
She didn't know much about him, so she decided just to continue her quest. Then again... "Excuse me," she said, looking at him again. "Would you happen to know if there are any, I don't know... secret passages or secret rooms? I would love to find one," she said with a wide smile. "But, I'm sure there are places that are limited in the library that I shouldn't explore in too." She wasn't interested in breaking those sorts of rules today. Just finding secret passages.

That would be the GREATEST thing ever! Silver was like a hard candy with a surprise center. ((yes I quoted Katy Perry)). There was more that met the eye with this young lioness. Her sting was stronger than her bite.
Awww Bevy!
Silver smiled and nodded. Whether there was an underlining meaning to her comment or not, Silver caught on and wanted to hug Beverly. But she wasn't quite the hugger. Oh Silvy. "You like dragons?" Silver asked Beverly. Some people like muggles and some people like dragons.

Leo almost laughed at the face the girl made when he enquired if she was a budding plant expert. It was clear from the grimace that herbology was not the girl’s passion. "No aspiring plant expert I see so what do you dream of working with?" Leo called back over his shoulder as he continued to makes notes as he worked his way up and down the shelves. Where did all the empty shelf gaps come from?
Were all the books loaned out?
Leo paused as the girl poised a question which made him sigh inwardly the question of shelf gaps forgotten. Why on earth did the student’s of this school find it so fascinating to seek out secret rooms or passages?
Turning to face the girl he said thoughtfully. "Well there is the room of requirement which is rumoured to be located on the 7th floor. As for other secret rooms or passages you are asking the wrong person. You could try asking some of the other students, they probably know more."
Nodding Leo responded when he heard the girl’s second question. "Yes, stay out of the restricted section of the library. It’s not a place fit for exploring. It’s the section that is roped off and has heavy chains over the shelves." He explained if the girl was new to the school or didn’t know for other reasons.

Tessa's head whipped back and forth so quick the the world spun a bit. "No thank you- the only plants I wish to work with are ones that are already finished as broom handles," she told him with a small shudder. Who would write a whole book on grass growing anyway? At his question, her smile grew. "You are looking at the next world-famous Chaser," she told him with a small bow. "Tessa's the name, Quidditch is the game," she joked.
She saw him eye the places where books were missing and wondered if she should stop bothering him. He had a job to do after all. PErhaps she should just step away... Oh he was talking to her again. She saw his expression and grinned. "I've never been at a school this old before," she explained, not really caring about sharing her history. "I just figured the library would be the best place to start." She nodded at his comments, making a mental note to find the room of requirement. Sounded interesting. "Thank you, I will," she told him with a nod.
She glanced over at the section he indicated and gave a small frown. It didn't look like anything she would be interested in. "No thanks," she said, her voice dry. "Those don't look like the sort of thing I would want to read anyway..." Not that she read much in general. And dusty old tombs with chains on them? Not appealing at all.

It was a rather peculiar title, but it definitely caught his attention. He pulled the large book off the shelf and looked for a place to sit. He saw a small girl that appeared to be around his age and next to her an empty seat. "Um...do you mind if I sit here?" he asked softly. Holding in a startled jump, Haruka turned when she heard a voice next to her. It belonged to a boy, and fellow Hufflepuff, who was asking if he could sit in the seat next to her. She looked at the empty seat and then back at the boy, noticing the book in his hand. Astrology. Fiddling with the pages of her own book, she nodded once and swallowed her nervousness. "Yeah, of course," she whispered, smiling kindly. "I'm Haruka." |

"Oh! I just am looking for a good book to read to relax. Why are you here? Dylan bit his lip to keep from laughing at Mari's mini cough attack. Chuckling softly, he nodded. "Yeah, I know." he told her with a giggle. He then shrugged. "I had been wandering and wanted to peek in here. I need a new book, but I dunno what I should get." he said as he looked about himself at the shelves surrounding them.

He certainly didn't mean to startle the poor girl. She looked about as nervous as he did. Maybe she was new too? "Uh thanks," he grinned as he took a seat. "It's nice to meet you Har-oo-kah," he said carefully, hoping he pronounced her name right. He certainly knew what it was like to have a confusing name. "I'm Altair," he said as he emphasized the three syllables in his first name. "How are you liking Hogwarts so far?" he asked assuming she was a first year like him.

"I've been reading a lot of sci-fi, if that helps," she said, thinking back to the small book exchange by the lake. "What types of books do you like?" she asked. |
