LOL. Did Professor Facial Hair really just cast an animal loyalty spell on Thompson? She tried to muffle her laughter, for surely that'd give it away, and instead focused on the incantation... even though she was dying to examine Javy up close. Merlin knew it'd be so cool to try such a charm on a human subject, and she could only imagine what kind of results it'd yield.

Y'know, for science.

But she tried directing her attention to practicing the words anyway. "Animalis Fidelis." Easy enough, yeah? "Animalis Fidelis. Animalis Fidelis. Ani-mal-is Fid-el-us. Animalis Fidelis." The pronunciation wasn't difficult to master, and as soon as she was certain the syllables rolled nicely off her tongue, Alice turned back to Javy.

What if he got on all fours and started licking Fuller like a puppy?

Should have brought a camera, Fischer. Really.

Ooooh, charms. Of course. Duh. Why had Lux not gotten that sooner seeing as the CHARMS Professor was involved.

The idea of using magic to inspire loyalty was something she had never considered doing - since it was something that should be earned - but the girl was not opposed to trying it out. The cute little Puffskeins probably wouldn't mind, as they were generally not averse to being thrown around and used in Quidditch practice. Why anyone would want to do that to an animal was beyond her, but to each their own.

It was time to practice, so Lux started repeating the spell over and over again. "Animalis Fidelis... Animalis Fidelis..."

While he'd had many ideas on how to get a Puffskein to be active, his fellow classmates seemed to have the same ideas, so Michael stayed quiet and waited for the Professor's to continue with the class.

When Professor Fuller began to speak, Michael began to frown the more the Charms Professor went on and when he had finished speaking, the third year didn't immediately jump to practicing the charm instead he raised his hand in the air.

"Er...excuse me Professor's, but isn't that kinda taking the Puffskein's free will away? I mean I know their only creatures and all but what if they don't want to be loyal to us or follow us around and do what we want?" The Gryffindor knew he wouldn't appreciate someone casting a spell at him and then he had to do everything someone else wanted.

Yep. Javy didn't need to look over his shoulder to know Piers would handle the class well. He was quite grateful that he had agreed to run a class together, especially after their little disagreement earlier. So he was just hunched over to move the sleeping puffskeins, who were still snoozing away towards the corner of the pen. Soon they could be awake to-

A great tingling sensation from his rump end spread throughout to the hairs on his head. Oh, he did not.. But he did, Javy could feel himself heating up in anger. How daare Piers do that when-

he was being the most wonderful friend in the world.. Too late, his former true thoughts were gone. In replace of an imaginary leash that he could feel wrapping around his neck, dragging him along towards Piers. His friend.. his dear old friend. How misguided he had it all along. He didn't feel with him anymore. No, no, they were showing the students how it was done. Yes..

Surely Piers would need him for something? Fetch a bone, teach him some things? Well, Javy wasn't going anywhere.. for now, as he stood waiting on his best friend's command.

It was like he came straight from Hufflepuff. Times a couple hundred.

She snapped out of it when Fuller cast on professor Thompson. Did that mean Thompson was going to start following Fuller around like a lost puppy? WAIT. HOLD UP. The charm could indeed be used on another wizard? Oh. OHHH. World domination became a real thing all of a sudden. Beverly wrote that bit down: Charm may be usable on wizards.

INNER LITTLE OLD WOMAN-CHILD CACKLE.

That done, she glanced up just as instructions were given. Practice the incantation, okay. She could do that. "Ani-mal-is..." Yeah, yeah, "Fid-el-us." She was such an ace. "Animalis Fidelis--"

Oh wait! Beverly raised her hand, wincing. Stupid bones and stuff. "Professors, does this charm work on - oh, I don't know - dragons...perhaps?" DID IT? HUH HUUH?

Aha, yeah, he figured this would come up. Dragons. "Ah, good question. Just like many spells and charms, the effectiveness of this charm depends on your strength and skill. Dragons are large, powerful, independent beings. Just like it would be hard to leash up a dragon and take it for a walk, it would be hard to charm it to be loyal to you. Puffskeins are small, easily persuadable creatures, therefore easier to charm."

Taking away the puffskein's free will? Didn't this kid just see him charm work on the Creatures professor? It was awesome! He understood why the student was concerned, but animal rights weren't exactly down his alley. And since Javy was now right by his side and seemingly keen to do whatever he wanted, Piers oh-so friendly wrapped his arm around his buddy's shoulder and said, "Yeah, Professor. What about free will?" Professor Thompson would be happy to answer that question, he was sure of it.

Javy right now felt like he could get use to this. Life just seemed so much easier. Just do what is asked and then act on it. Simple! How could he possibly be mad at him.

Grinning wide, as he felt an arm wrap around him. What did Piers want him to do? Oh, answer a question! Okay! Certainly he could answer that. Turning to face at the question on free will. "Whatever do you mean? All we need is tender, love, and care. I know Professor Fuller is going to take good care of me as long as needed. I know he would never send me in danger." He was totally sounding non-biased, wasn't he?

"The trust is mutual, because I can feel it and that makes it perfectly okay with me to do whatever he wants, otherwise, I would not feel as comfortable as I do now and would able to stop myself." Right? He did good answering it truthfully didn't he, Piers?

Leah groaned. Of course everything had to do with charms. She had nearly forgotten that Professor Fuller was here too. She watched excitedly as the CoMC professor was set under the charm. O_o Cool.

"ANI-MAL-IS - FID-EL-US. Animal is Fidel us." That sounded weird. "Animalis Fidelis!" She repeated super quick and stumbled on her words. Spells were not about speaking quickly, after all.

Michael raised his eyebrows and gave both Professor's dubious looks. Nothing Professor Thomson said gave him any confidence that this charm was all what he was saying it was.

"The trust is mutual, is it?" Michael snorted, personally he wouldn't trust Professor Fuller as far as he could throw a Hippogriff. He had that look on his face that said he was enjoying having the other Professor under his thumb. "Well you don't mind if I just see how the charm on Professor Thomson plays out?" Because he was totally not comfortable with this spell at all.

"Ani...malis...Fiiii..del..lis. Fiiideloos. Fi-del-LUS." He practiced, forcing his tongue to shorten the tail of the last word. He gave his wand short flicks. "Fidelus, fidelus, fidelus." Flick, flick. His eyes meanwhile cased the room in search of anyone who might make a good potential accidental inflictee with this charm if he was feeling like testing it. But he sort of wasn't. Which was a good thing.




His expression seemed blank, but he saw that. The interaction between the Professors. And, at first, he'd taken it for a joke. As though it wasn't very likely to have taken effect. Just done to amuse and make the class believe that there were more possibilities with the charm than presented. Then when he saw Professor Thompson look at first cross and then enamored almost instantaneous of one another...well, he still thought it was a joke.

"Make him eat a puking pastille." He said loud 'n clear to his Professors. Oh, he wanted verification that this was actually happening. Or at least a good show. Cutty was a terrible human being. ):

Time to practice the new charm. Wait......did Professor Fuller just charm Professor Thompson? Oh this was going to be an interesting class, Alex thought with a chuckle.

Turning her attention back to the charm they were supposed to practice, Alex began the incantation. ""Animalis Fidelis". Repeating the incantation several times, Alex said, "Ani-mal-is Fid-el-us, Ani-mal-is Fid-el-us". She made sure to say the words slowly and carefully until she felt comfortable with the pronunciation. Finally feeling confident that she had gotten it right, Alex waited for further instructions from the Professors.

See now that was awesome. Using the spell on another Professor and it kind of worked. Awesomely Awesome. Though only question Nigel had now was that he did not really want a loyal puffskein. Based on the experiment. Doing it on people sounded more fun. Why couldn't that be the lesson. Shame.

And maybe Thompson was a little too trusting of Professor Facial Hair. But it was only Animalis Fidelis and not the Imperius so there was that.

Right time to practice the spell. "Animalis Fidelis". Not the hardest thing to say.

"Animalis Fidelis"

Ella wasn't sure how she felt about using charms to forge a bond with an animal. Sure Fuller had mentioned it was only a temporary thing and used for that initial meeting but it didn't feel right. She was sort of too mentally exhausted to question it though. And so when it was time, she practiced the incantation quietly.

"Animalis Fidelis...Animalis Fidelis...Ani-mal-is-fid-el-us...Animalis Fidelis."

Professor Handsome face numero uno had used the charm on Professor Handsome face numero dos? Welp. The only thing she learned from this was that they were awfully silly because looking around, some of her classmates seemed a little too interested and too amused by the show. Head Girl didn't approve. Nope.

"Animalis Fidelis...Animalis Fidelis...Ani-mal-is-fid-el-us...Animalis Fidelis."

So she had to eat all her vegetables and practice her charms work a LOT and then she'd be able to form a bond between her and a dragon. At least, that's what she understood. Beverly grinned at the professor and pretended to practice saying the charm because she also wanted to hear what he told Train Boy.

She hadn't really thought about free will. As long as she wasn't the one being influenced of sorts then...what was the harm? Besides, it wasn't like they would use creatures to do evil things. She wouldn't. A cuddle fest at best.

But professor Thompson did seem to be under the influence. Beverly glanced over at Cutty Mordaunt and hid a smirk. That would be interesting, a puking pastille. Did he bring any to try out?

Anyway, time to practice or her senile brain would forget what she was doing. Keeping an eye on the professors, though. Do it.

"Aniiii-maaal-iiiis Fiiid-elll-iiiis."

Now this particular spell was a very interesting and handy one. You never know when you'd an animal's someone's instant loyalty. Enthusiastically, the snake scribbled it down and drew a pretty curly-edged rectangular around it indicating its importance and all that. Important stuffs get written down while boring stuffs get nods. Though so far nothing was boring. She liked the topic of Pygmypuffs was a very enjoyable one. She knew most of the stuffs said and her attention was mainly focused on them hopping around. SO cute.

Before starting with practicing the spell she watched the two very handsome professors. She kept reminding herself she was watching the spell's effects and nothing else. Wasn't an easy task but she managed it eventually.

Seeing how effective it seemed to be only got her more pumped to try it herself. She wanted to grab a lil pet or someone even and try it ahead but they had to practice the spell first. She supposed she could wait a bit longer. "Animalis Fidelis," That was way too fast she wanted to nail it from the first try. She could hope! "Ani-ma-lis.... Fiiid-el-is," Much better. And one last time to be sure. "Anim-aliiiis Fid-eeliiis." That had to do it.

This had to be some sort of violation of free will, Lex was sure of it. She could get Felix to follow her around and get stuff for her without having to use magic but then she could see where they were coming from with this...if they were looking for something that wouldn't completely eat away at their time. Gaining animal loyalty didn't happen in a day. Alexa could still remember the first few months with Felix, he didn't do a thing she told him to and he was always trying to run away.

Once she'd gotten her eyeful of the puffskeins, she drew her wand to begin the practising.

"Ani-ma-lis Fi-de-lis.....A-ni-mal-is Fid-e-lis...." Now she could see the joint aspect of this class. All this incantation practising was typical of a regular Charms lesson. "Animalis Fidelis....Animalis Fidelis..."

Good thing she'd never have to cast this on her kneazle. He didn't like having wands pointed at him and she didn't like wandhandling him either.

"Professor?" Sophie asked. Either one of you. Preferably the one who knew the answer. "Going off Beverly's question, will this charm work as self-defense? I mean, I know we're talking about free will..." Which, by the way, was completely unimportant to Sophie. Who cared if they took away an animal's free will? PSH.

"...but could it be used if we need to defend ourself against an animal? Could we use the charm to make it loyal to us instead of...hungry for us?" she asked.

In the meantime... "Animalis Fidelis!" she said. "Animalis Fidelis!"

Also, did Beverly have a dragon or something? Hmm, hmm?

"Animalis Fidelis...Animalis Fidelis....Animalis Fidelis," Sander continued to practice saying in the incantation to the charm they were going to learn today. He still didn't like the fact that Professor Fuller had cast the spell on the Care of Magical Creatures Professor but he had to trust that he knew what he was doing...for Professor Thompson's sake.

He scowled at the Slytherin who had suggested feeding Professor Thompson puking pastilles while he was under the spell. Keep it up Snake, and you might find some in your next meal, Sander thought to himself.

Having some fun was good but he didn't think it was right to do it at the expense of others.

Taking a deep relaxing breath, to help calm him down, Sander released it and continued to practice the incantation again.

"Animalis Fidelis...Animalis Fidelis...Animalis Fidelis."

Michael Toussaint had a point, and Mo turned from glaring at the wand in his hand to giving the younger boy an approving grin. That's the spirit, kid. Give 'em hell and make 'em answer to any implication of subverting the free will of another creature. Just because these puffskeins weren't people didn't mean they didn't have rights.

"Professor?" Mo raised his hand and looked from one professor to the other before deciding the CoMC professor was the one most likely to answer. If he could. "Are there legal limitations on the use of this spell? I mean... to protect yourself or do something for the good of the creature, like getting it to eat or exercise or whatever, those are all well and good, but it seems like you could also encourage your pet to jump off a bridge. It sorta seems like a version of the Imperius. It makes me think there must be some sort of limit in place so the spell isn't abused."

Just to be a good sport, Mo jabbed his wand dramatically and tried out the incantation. Yup. "Animalis Fidelis." Easy enough.

Even as he continued to practice saying the incantation to the spell, Sander still didn't feel right casting the spell. After seeing Professor Thompson's reaction to it, it made him feel more guilty. He had earlier thought that the spell was a cuter, less cruel and painless version of the Imperius curse but now with Mo voicing his concerns too, Sander knew he was right to feel the way he did.

He stopped midway through his last round of incantation practicing and raised his hand,"I agree with Marcus here. Is there a legal limit to what we can ask it to do? Or rather is there a spell limitation as to what we can ask the subject to do? Legal may be fine and dandy but people have been known to break the legal limits of almost everything," Sander shared his opinion.

"Can we control the spell in a way where if we ask the subject to do something that will hurt or cause discomfort to it, the spell won't work and the subject will not be forced to do it?" Sander asked.

There had to be a way to protect the individual or creature in this case. Free will or not, how can one really say someone or something is doing it out of their free will if they are under a spell. For all Sander knew, Professor Thompson just said the things he did because he had to.

....not that he suspected Professor Fuller of any wrong doing. After all he was a Professor and they could be trusted...right?

Why was the Care of Magical Creatures Professor acting like this?

Confused, Lux watched the interactions between the two Professors until it dawned on her: Professor Fuller had used the spell on Professor Thompson. Unimpressed, the girl stopped practicing, frowning at Fuller. Was this man seriously controlling one of his colleagues? Did he find it funny? She sure didn't even though it seemed Cutty was amused.

A few students raised their concern, and Lux was right there with them. It was not right to do this to people or animals. Glancing at the cute little creatures, she was sure she would not be able to use mind control on any of them.

What were these people whining about. This charm was awesome and Bart was already making a list of animals and people that it would be fun to use it on. "Do you really think professors would teach us a spell if it was so close to a dark unforgivable spell?" Come on people don't be dumb and don't ruin this chance to do something cool!!!

He wanted to be on the ground laughing with Professor Thompson being controlled by Fuller. It was EPIC and if possible the boy wouldn't mind seeing Fuller keep Thompson that way. He was less lame. Did they really just have to practice the words? He was ready to try this one out like now before these classmates kept opening their mouths and then they wouldn't be allowed to use it.

They were going to ruin it. Bart hurried to practice it because as soon as wands were allowed he was doing this so he wouldn't be told.

"Animalis Fidelis....Animalis Fidelis.....Animalis Fidelis

Alright got it now time to use a wand! He was ready!

See? Did they see the can of worms they'd opened up? Ella glanced up from her wand and watched as Mo voiced things she was wondering too. This charm still wasn't sitting well with her, okay? And she eagerly looked to Fuller and Thompson for answers because hopefully they'd have something reassuring to say. Hopefully. And also, could they maybe work a snooze into this lesson? Cuddle a puffskein, maybe? Head Girl was tired. Just...yeah, really tired. She needed something to do soon or she might nod off. Maybe. And that wasn't a good look for someone hoping to work with creatures in the future. Come on, Thompson, help a student out.

"Animalis Fidelis...Animalis Fidelis." AND...still practicing.

Cutty bowed his head down momentarily to write something on his parchment of notes and when he looked up he caught the scowled expression of an older Hufflepuff. He might have been tempted to return the expression had he not realized...


SANDER WAS BEAUTIFUL!


So the only thing that happened was a smile and and eyebrow gesticulation that implied 'call me!'. It all probably looked a little more than a fair share of smug.




And then, Branxton, with his very good question about whether or not this was legal drew Cutty back to the subject at hand. Imperius. Imperius. He remembered reading about the dangerous and wrongfulness of this particular curse in his textbook. Not the actual assigned one, since Romanos seemed to prefer less obvious teachings (though it could've been in there as well), but one he'd found at the library. And Branxton was right. This could be a nice alternative to Imperius...If it actually does work and this wasn't an elaborate prank payed at the expense of their gullible oldyoung minds.

"Animalis...Fidelis...Fidelis." The last word still giving his hybrid accent a challenge, he carried on with practice hoping to see his professors prove their claim, but if they didn't, he could always test it himself later.

A charm that made your pets loyal to you. That was a little strange. And at first Schuyler thought that seemed a bit forced. Forced loyalty, yeah. But the professors added that it was temporary and that made it seem a bit better. The charm could still be abused though. And while some of the other students got philosophical about all this, Schuyler practiced saying the spell a few times.

"Animalis Fidelis." Animal Fidelis. Animal Fidelis.

It wasn't really the sort of spell that twisted up your tongue, so she said it a few more times and waited to move on to the next part.

oh my, so the COMC is going to willingly let the charms teacher charm him to whatever, nah, this wasn't crazy, it couldn't go horribly wrong, yeah right, some people are far too trusting .But it will be funny and plenty of people if here, things will be fine, now back to that spell.. "Animales Fidel's, no, Animalos, Fidelus, that's not right either". Oichi looked at the board and saw where she was going wrong, "oh, okay, Animalis fidelis, that's right now I'm ready, yes.".
