Welcome to the first Charms lesson of the new term! As you open the door to enter the charms classroom, you will find something that you will not recognize or expect. The familiar classroom seems to have transformed into something much more magical.
Instead of four stone walls that trap you with your fellow smelly classmates, all you can see for miles is rolling green hills, with pretty little daisy flowers planted here and there. The sun is high in the sky and small patches of fluffy clouds slowly drift overhead. A little stream can be heard in the distance as a calm breeze rolls through.
Feel like taking a nap? Blankets have been set up under the shade of a tall maple tree. Craving some sweets? Some plates of cookies and brownies have been placed on the soft, cushy grass here and there. Fancy a nice cup of tea? You'll probably find a tea kettle around here somewhere, as well as anything else your little teenager heart desires. It's like a daydream...
Oh, and Professor Fuller is nowhere to be found. Typical.
OOC: Welcooooome, students. Do whatever you want (within reason). Class will begin in 24 hours.
OOC: Class has now started! If you just got here, feel free to join in, but don't RP your character arriving late. Just pretend they've been here all along!
It was weird; just saying the words made Tobias feel like he was going to drift off into a day dream. Or an actual dream. He could describe them only as 'sleepy words'. They made him think of sleep and drifting and all that. He guessed it made sense, when he heard some of the explanations for the meaning of the words. Toby hadn't had a clue what the words meant, you see, so didn't give an answer. He was satisfied just listening.
Instead he just practiced the incantation, wanting to get it perfect now so he had more time to practice it when the time came.
"Sentio Somnium," Toby repeated, murmuring it to himself. "Sentio Somnium."
He didn't even hear the shouty Gryffindors, oddly enough.

Bart just kind of looked around as the nice scene changed back into the dull classroom. Shrugging he was glad to sit down anyway. So he went and found a seat in the back and propped his head on his hand and tried to listen. Though he really wasn't hearing anything the man was saying. Oh well no big deal. He'd just wait and see what others did.
As he sat there he felt movement in his stomach. Well that wasn't good. Leaning over in his chair and raising up... Pfffffffffffffffffffffffffftttttt
There that felt better.
Now what were they doing again? Hmmm and why was he sitting at this desk? He just couldn't remember.

Okay, that was fast. "Good."

If anything, she was less Ravenclaw than most of her House, so that comment probably wasn't directed at her. "Somnium is probably based in the Latin somnus, to sleep," she recited, and then she got to the actual questions she wanted to ask.
"Professor, while the charm was still active, what would have happened if we walked past where one of the walls should have been? Would we, like, walk into it, or go past it somehow?"
Oy. Good question. "That depends on the strength of the charm and the limitations the caster has put on it. For example, beginners at this spell, such as you, will probably have quite a hard time expanding the classroom to fit such a large landscape as I did. The more you practice, the more you can create the illusion that there really are miles and miles of open air. No, you won't walk through walls and float through thin air. Once the charm wears off, you'll still find yourself inside the classroom. The more you practice, the more you can expand the physical reality and create the illusion of a big open field. For now, you may create an illusion of the open sea, but if you try to row your boat across the ocean, you're going to run into a barrier. Also known as the back wall of the classroom." Hopefully that made sense.

Hm. "Interesting deduction, but not quite. The word scent doesn't come from this latin word. But we will be creating daydreams, yes."

Was she going mental. She could see lips moving, but that was it. "Professor, why are you whispering? I can't hear you!" What was he playing at anyways? Didn't he know that she would already not in the mood?
Oh, okay. He had deaf students? No, because he KNEW they could hear. "OOOOIII, STOP YELLING!" he shouted right back. What was their problem? "If you can't bother paying attention the first time, feel free to leave." Maybe they should get their hearing checked, Merlin. AND their eyes. Piers squinted at them. "I didn't do anything to the blackboard. Go back to your seat, kid."
Anyway...
"Onto the practical portion! Everyone get out your wands. You will be charming your water goblets and then drinking it. If applied correctly, you will be taken to whatever daydream you wish. To perform this spell, you will say the spell while circling your wand over the water. While doing so, create a CLEAR IMAGE in your mind of what you want your daydream to be like. Once you do, you can take a drink of your water to test out the charm. If you want, you may choose a partner to have drink your water." That could be dangerous. And also entertaining.
"Everyone watch me." Wand in hand, Piers stepped over to his desk where a goblet of water was to demonstrate on. Imagining the daydream in his mind, he pointed his wand at the water and circled it around a few times. "Sentio Somnium," he said, and a pale purple string of light slipped into the goblet and then disappeared. "Just like that. Everyone give it a go and test it out. If it didn't work, try again."

Okay, so instructions were definitely going on and Hannah was not getting everything. It wasn't as if she were completely deaf because she could make out some things. Hannah could hear the people who were the closest to her talk the best, but even that was as good as it should be.
Her hand shot into the air, as fast as it could with all things considered. "Professor, I really am having trouble hearing you. Could you go over that again? I can get a closer seat." Although, that would involve her getting up and who knew who long it would take for her to actually make her way to a closer seat. Didn't the professor understand that she was simply not playing around, and that something was obviously going on with her hearing?

Hmm yelling yelling. She figured it was a Gryffindor thing, and perhaps one misplaced Slytherin, so Huxley spared a nanosecond of a side glance to that before something far more important took her attention instead--the question from a fellow Claw.
The brunette angled her head as she considered the question and the subsequent reply. Interesting. She felt that there were more question popping into her head. But first, she should try out that spell, see if she could figure out some things on her own....
Having watched the Professor demo the spell the brown-eyed girl pulled the water goblet closer to her. Practicing the wand stroke about the water goblet, Huxley murmured the incantation "Sentio Somnium" a few times.
Now, what daydream would she want to try out for this?....

For those of you who attended my classes last term, you will remember that a large portion of the outcome of your charms is intent. Once you master filling your charms with your intentions, anything is possible." Did they get that? Because it was important. "Most of this charm relies on your brain, your concentration, and your ability to imagine. Think you can handle it?"
Piers watched them for a second before turning to the board. Picking up a piece of chalk, he wrote:
Sentio Somnium SEN-tee-oh-SOM-nee-uhm
Dusting off his hands, he turned back to the front. "Sentio Somnium. That's the incantation. Everybody practice saying that out loud, let it roll off your tongue... Anybody have any idea what that means? Sentio Somnium?"
Tessa scribbled down notes on the new spell and winced as some of her classmates shouted at the professor to repeat the question. Sure, what he had said had been slightly muffled, but that didn't warrant shouting at him. She sighed and began to mutter the pronunciation of the spell to get it down.
"Sentio Somnium...," she repeated that a few times to herself, adding the correct pronunciation to her notes when she felt that she had gotten it right. As for what the spell meant, she had no idea. Best leave it to the rest of the class to figure that one out.

Wow! they were moving on to the practical portion of the class. Sander couldn't believe it. He loved the practicals the best. First he practiced the wand movement, which was a circling motion over the water in the water goblet...which looked simple enough.
Then it was back to practicing the incantation. 'Darn it what was it again? Something to do with Sen and Som something.' Sander frowned and rubbed his head as he tried to remember. Then he remembered he had written down in his journal. So he quickly turned to the page and read what he had written.
He mentally smacked his head, 'Sentio Somnium....SEN-tee-oh SOM-nee-uhm, that's what it was,' Sander chided himself. "Sentio Somnium....SEN-tee-oh SOM-nee-uhm...SEN-tee-oh SOM-nee-uhm....SEN-tee-oh SOM-nee-uhm,"

Tessa grinned as she looked down at her class of water. She was going to have the best daydream ever- if only she could pick one! As she decided, she continued to practice the spell, murmuring it again. The second word was a bit fuzzy in her mind and she squinted up at the board to see it.
"Sentio Somnium... SOMnium... SOMnium...," she repeated it a few more times, hoping that it would stick to memory. She'd never had trouble remembering like this before.
Then, she focused on her glass. She practiced the movement over her glass a few times then closed her eyes to clarify the image in her mind.
The crowd was roaring, she leaned down closer to the broom, Quaffle in her hands. The rest of her teammates were fading behind her, yelling for her to shoot. She twisted around a member of the opposing team who attempted to block her, and she didn't bother to look back. Her eyes were on the goal posts. She faked toward the left, losing the keeper, then then soared up to the middle...
Yup, that daydream would do just fine. "Sentio Somnium," she cast, circling her wand over the glass. Now, all she had to do was try it!

Sander placed the water goblet in front of him and peered in looking at his reflection in the water. First he had to think of a day dream. Sander flashed through the images in his mind before he picked one. He smiled. He had always wanted to spend time on an island where all he did was just lie on a hammock and relax while listening to the sounds of the waves crashing up on the shore.
So he focused on that image, blocking out all other thoughts. 'Private island with me lying on a hammock and relaxing under the shade of Coconut trees,' Sander kept thinking to himself.
Then he took out his wand, and said "Sentio Somnium," while circling his wand over the water as he concentrated on the image in his mind. He watched as a pale purple string of light slipped into the goblet and disappeared.
Sander quickly picked up the goblet and drank from it and then closed his eyes, waiting for the spell to take effect. But when he opened them, he found that he was still in the classroom and not on an island!!
He sighed. His first attempt at casting the spell had failed.

Wow, it was already time for the practical portion of class. This was always her favourite, because she loved trying out new things and a lot of the time they had a lot of fun with it. She still remembered that awesome competition in DADA.
Watching as the Professor demonstrated the wand movement, she figured it was simple enough, though she still wanted to try it out in practice before doing it over her water goblet.
The wand movement was simple enough, so she was not worried about that aspect; it was the pronunciation that was more of a concern. "SENtio SOMnium... SENtio SOMnium..." She repeated the words over and over again until she was sure she was saying them correctly.
A path is not simply for walking, its purpose lies in moving forward and improving oneself.
Sitting on his chair again, Kevin stopped practising the incantation when he realised that the other students were looking at the front. Eh? Had the Professor spoken again? He looked up as well but frowned when he saw the man talking but his words were so soft!
"WHAT DID HE SAY?!" He said randomly to any student who would give him an answer. "Honestly, why is everyone whispering?!" it was freaking him out okay?! That Gryffindor was the only one who talked normally and......and then he quickly put a hand over his nose because a horrible smell just filled his nose. "EWW IT STINKS HERE!" he said as he looked around, trying to find out where it came from.

Tessa picked up the glass that she had cast on and looked at the water closely. It didn't look any different. However, the best way to see if it had worked would be to try it. She lifted the glass to her lips and took a sip.
The scene she had imagine played in her mind, but it was fuzzy and distant, like an old time movie being watched all the way at the back of a theater. And, the daydream kept skipping. She frowned and ended the spell with a Finite. Time to try again.
She refocused on the daydream and made sure that was the only thing in her mind. Raising her wand she circled the glass a little more tightly with her wand and murmured the spell "Sentio Somnium," she cast, hoping that this time it would work.

Bay was happy to be sitting. He looked down at his cup and practiced the words a few times in his head.
"Sentio Somnium"……"Sentio Somnium" maybe he should give it a go.. "Sentio Somniam" Bay knew instantly that it wouldn't work, for he said it wrong.. saying it slowly in his head he figured he should just work on the pronunciation first before he moved on to testing his spell again.

Sander ended the spell he had cast by pointing his wand inside the water and saying, "Finite"
Then he decided to try again. He wanted to be in his daydream really badly. He picked up his wand and placed it over the water goblet and then froze. 'Wait what was the wand movement again....and the spell?' Sander began to panic. He needed to cast this spell. He wanted to be on his island.
He looked over at Tessa and watched and listened as she cast the spell. 'Yes that's it circular motion over the water, incantation, Sentio Somnium' Sander breathed a sigh of relief.
First he needed to have an image of his daydream. It was an island where he was lying on a hammock and relaxing. That was at least something he remembered. Sander shook his head wondering what was happening to his memory. He pushed those thoughts aside for awhile as he concentrated hard on his daydream image. 'I want to be there. I want to be there.' he kept thinking to himself.
Picking up his wand, he cast the daydream spell saying,"Sentio Somnium" while moving his wand in a circular motion over the water in the goblet. Sander watched, as like before, a light purplish string slipped from his wand into the water and then disappeared.
He slowly picked up the goblet, closed his eyes and drank from it. When he opened his eyes, Sander first smelt the sea breeze. He could hear the waves crashing on the ocean and the gulls screaming above as they flew past. He felt the sand under his feet as he walked towards a shade of coconut trees and there it was. His hammock. He slowly moved onto it, laid back and closed his eyes.
He gave a sigh of satisfaction. He liked this day dream. But then he thought of something. How did he get out of it? Would just simply ending the spell work?
Even though, Sander wanted to stay in his daydream he knew that he had to get back to the real world. So he raised his wand and said, "Finite" and the next thing he knew he was falling to the floor.
OOOMPPHH!! 'Smart move there, Sander. Next time get out of the hammock before you end the spell,' he chided himself for not remembering that.
But at least his spell had worked. Sander was eager to try again.

Oh gosh! Even the Professor was shouting! What was going on with them today? Shouting was annoying... Adi on the other hand was hearing quite fine, so he was able to hear what Fuller was saying quite clearly. Easy enough instructions.
The Puffer grabbed his wand, an image already formed in his head. He began circling the water with the wand. Incantation. He had to speak the incantation. What was it? Erm. HE HAD FORGOTTEN THE INCANTATION! Hadn't he been practicing it moments ago?
Help. He needed help. "Tessa!'' Adi whispered as he scooted over to the older girl. ''What's the incantation again?''

Tag took a desk, once Professor Fuller was mean enough to change the background back to the boring old classroom. Then he mentioned "altered state of mind" which made Tag roll his eyes. For reasons. But right, back onto the actual task.
First though, he had to practice the spell. "Sentio Somnium. Sentio Somnium. Sentio Somnium." Tag repeated to himself several times. He should give it some more goes. The blonde remembered how he had said his incantation for History of Magic wrong. " Sentio Somnium. Sentio Somnium. Sentio Somnium." That sounded about right.

Like OMG whhhhy were people yelling??? Was that even necessary? If they couldn't hear then move closer. Rotten kids and their loud noises. Whatever happened to peace and quiet? It was bad enough the food was fake and they were back in the STOOOPID classroom with no sugar. Ugh, just ugh okay???
Lex threw herself into her seat, wincing and the pain that shot right through her back as she did. Stupid back, couldn't do nothing right. More internal ugh-ing and general annoyance. She should blame it on that Slytherin that started her off on her bad mood.
Alexa looked to the cup, not having bothered with the incantation repeating when the Professor asked. She wasn't a baby, she could say spells you know.
Rude. Very rude.
The Gryffindor looked to her goblet on the table. Charming this thing so she could see what she wanted? Yeah, Lex already knew what she wanted to happen. She cleared her head of everything but the scene she wanted being played out. Concentrationg and imagination...."Sentio Somnium!"

ANYWAY. It was time to do the spell. She could handle that, yeah? Simple enough. Just get a clear picture of what you want your daydream to be like, do some circling around the goblet, say the spell, and drink the... ... Glancing down, the eighteen year old had to double check what they'd be drinking. Water, right. She knew that. Would this spell still have worked on something like prune juice? Curious, she was.
She needed to focus, though. So the Ellaphant stared into her water goblet, thinking of what kind of daydream she wanted to have. The first thing that came to her mind was bingo. Bingo? No. No she didn't even like bingo, did she? She'd been with Gran before and had enjoyed it well enough but that wasn't what she wanted to do for a daydream. Yeah...

... They had to DRINK the water after charming it?
... Erm...?
Alec blinked at the man before looking down at the goblet. Drink it. The man's voice loud enough so he did hear things correctly. Maybe it had been a little too loud for his liking. And so were some of the people nearby with their spell casting. Cue more grimacing from the boy. Could people just... quieten down? A bit? Please?
Maybe he should go ahead with the spell. Whipping out his wand, the Hufflepuff took a deep breath and-- ... Wait. Wand movement? Grey-blue eyes snapped up to the Professor and then around at the people nearby. Had he mentioned a wand movement? Alec didn't know. But people did know so... he was paying close attention to what they were doing. Stealthy, he was. And... what was that? A circular wand movement? Was... was that what they had to do? He looked over at another person practising and...
... circular. Over the water. Erm... okay.
Looking back at his own water goblet, the boy held up his wand and--
... WHY WERE PEOPLE SHOUTING?!
Too loud. Grimacing yet again, Alec tried his hardest to ignore the loud voices and concentrate on practising the spell some more. "SEN-tee-oh... SOM-nee-uhm... SEN-tee-oh... SOM-nee-uhm..." No wand movement just yet. "Sentio... Somnium... Sentio Somnium!" Once that was done, he held up his wand and moved it around in a circular motion over the water.

Help. He needed help. "Tessa!'' Adi whispered as he scooted over to the older girl. ''What's the incantation again?''
Sander heard Adi ask Tessa for the words to the incantation but she was busy concentrating on casting her spell, that she missed hearing his question, so Sander leaned over to whisper the words to Adi, "It's Sentio Somnium...SEN-tee-oh....SOM-nee-uhm" he told the younger boy. "Hope that helps," he winked at Adi before returning to try casting his day dream spell again.
This time Sadner decided that he would try expanding on his daydream by adding more things in it. This time he would add a small hut on the island, and more palm trees in addition to the ones already there. He also decided to add a picnic basket filled with all kinds of fruit and soda pop.
So he concentrated as hard as he could picturing the image in his mind. The sound of gulls screeching, the sound of ocean waves, the smell of the sea breeze and the sun shining through between the coconut tree leaves.
Keeping that image in his mind, he got ready to cast the spell but then as he was about to say the words, he realized that he had forgotten the words to the spell. The same words he had just repeated to Adi.
Sighing in frustration he opened up his journal and read what he had written,"Sentio Somnium, that's it!!" he read to himself. Closing the book, he gathered his thoughts and visualized his daydream image again. Once he had the picture clearly in his mind, he took out his wand, and said the words to the incantation, "Sentio Somnium" as he moved his wand in a circular motion over the water inside the goblet.
Sander watched as a light purple string like thing flowed out from his wand and slipped into the water before disappearing. Sander's head was beginning to ache. All this concentrating was giving him a throbbing headache. He closed his eyes, picked up the goblet and drank from it, and immediately the classroom disappeared and in its place was his island with everything he imagined he would have on it. Sander walked up to the hammock, sat down on it before lying down. He decided that he was going to take a little snooze.

As the students shot around answers, Piers nodded and slowly paced back and forth, his arms crossed over his chest. Daydream charm, illusion charm, room of requirement charm. A lot of the suggestions were the same, but he approved each one with a nod. Except there were a few that were just... odd. Those were met with a simple, curious raise of the left eyebrow.
"Very good! Most of you gave good answers. Others are too Ravenclaw for your own good." He shot a specific look to that Huxley girl. "For those of you who suggested the daydream charm, you are correct."
And with that, the professor took hold of his wand and gave it a little swish. Suddenly, the happy illusion of the cheery outdoors vanished and they found themselves again in the darker, gloomier interior of the castle. What could he say? He lived to disappoint. "Everyone, take a seat." The desks and chairs were set up in their normal rows. Except this time, each desk had a goblet of water on it.
Putting away his wand, Piers walked to the front of the class. "Now, this daydream charm is similar to the product that you may have seen or heard of at that charming little Weasley shop in Diagon Alley. But whatever you think you know about that product, just put it aside. We're starting from scratch.
"The charm I used on all of you today was attached to the doorframe. So, when you walked through it, it altered your state of mind. Now, as cool as that is," Yes, he was boasting, "Charming an empty field, such as the space of an open door frame, is rather advanced. What we'll be charming today is a simple glass of water.
Ian listened as the professor spoke of the charm he had used to trick them into believing they were in a pleasant outside field. He was disappointed as he saw that they were now back in a classroom and he had to take a seat at a desk. He sighed as he looked for one to settle into.
As he sat down in the nearest empty desk, he got confused and tried to decide what he was doing. He looked around, disoriented wondering where he was and why he was there. It only lasted a minute because the professor began speaking about the charm they would be doing. Ian saw the goblet of water on the desk and felt a moment of thirst and took a sip. Ooh, that was good!Ian thought to himself as he took another sip and the professor asked the question about the words on the board. Ian looked at the board and had no clue why what those words meant. He shrugged and listened to the other students answer.

"Hope that helps," he winked at Adi before returning to try casting his day dream spell again.
Adi was sorry he had to disturb Tessa. She looked like she was concentrating hard on getting that spell right. But Sander came to the rescue, fortunately. Sentio Somnium. Oh yes! That was it! Adi gave Sander a relieved grin. "Thanks, dude! I'll go try it again.''
Adi plopped down in his seat again, eager to retry the spell. He visualised his daydream as he circled his wand around the water in the goblet. "Sentio Somnium!''
Would it work? The Puffer (still concentration on his daydream) waited to see if there would be any purple magic would appear from his wand.

Bay put his head down on his desk… gahhhh… why was he so hard at pronouncing words. Looking around he hoped someone noticed how desperate he was as he head was still down on his desk.

Satisfied with how her pronunciation was going, Lux felt that she was ready to try it out on the cup. Creating a clear image in her head of her playing Quidditch; flying in the air without any fear, she circled her wand over it while saying, " Sentio Somnium/" Hopefully it would work, and she would enter her daydream.
As she moved to pick up her goblet and take a drink, she saw that Bay seemed to be lost. "What's wrong, Bay?" she asked kindly. Looked like he needed some help.
