"Hogwarts' School for Witchcraft and Wizardy's highest authority, the governing board consisting of 12 elected members of the community, will periodically and when necessary hold meetings and events in a provided room on the school premises."
-Hogwarts School Charter & Founding Documents
It just so happens that the room the BoG has been given used to be a dusty old classroom and practice room for student use. The dust is gone, the desks have been replaced by an elegant hardwood business table, and the governors all have comfortable leather executive chairs now. The long, green chalkboard on one side of the room is all that remains of the historic Classroom Eleven, as the rest of the walls now have classic wood panelling and handsome portraits on them.

Another ghost besides the house ghosts? Kevin though long and hard, biting his lower lip as he thought but the longer he thought the more tired he became and soon he was closing his eyes and dozing off in the chair. A couple of seconds later he looked up in shock and was a little confused on where he was. Governors Board room, ghosts, old kids oh yeah now he remembered!
"Who's garbage?" he asked in a loud voice because he could not hear himself so well. "I haven't seen any ghost beside the house ghosts....if that helps..." probably not, better let the adults handle this although he was technically an adult as well now right? Kinda?

She didn't have to! She'd just nominate somebody!
"I'd like the Head Girl to go with me if I go," she said. Sorry, Ella. "You know, safety in numbers and the such." Also, if somebody had to get eaten or something, Sophie would nominate Ella then, too. Besides, the Head Girl seemed to have some sort of connection with the woman anyway. Had she been...her professor?

Was this kid serious? Ella glanced up and narrowed her eyes slightly, wondering why on EARTH this Slytherin insisted on making things difficult for her. She then quietly considered her options while she waited for the Board to accept or deny Sophie's request.
She could A) in the event of them accepting, fall on her way out of the room and feign a broken hip or something. (Gran being an actress, perhaps some of her talent had rubbed off on Ella) B) express her desire to sit in since she had lots of information on said ghost that she could share. (Which she actually didn't) and C) actually go with Sophie and in the event of trouble, forget being Head Girl and head for the hills, leaving the little snake to fend for herself.
And of course, all of these options were so out of character that despite her desire for self preservation, the eighteen year old knew that she'd be following along after the little brunette, just hoping that they found the ghost of Professor Burbage and were able to bring her back.
SIGH.

Wait, what?
There was a new ghost at the castle? On impulse, Lux found herself sliding down in her seat a little as if the spirit was in the room with her as opposed to somewhere else in the castle. Why did there have to be a dead Professor floating around? Weren't the House ghosts enough?
Lux wanted to be helpful, despite her fear of ghosts, but she was not sure if she wanted to help out with this aspect. Hesitating, she decided to wait and see what exactly would happen. As of now, it appeared that there was going to be a ghost hunt.

So the ghost was the former professor that died the other term? That was... unfortunate. But certainly not motive.
Besides, Carter thought, what could a ghost really do. Weren't they sort of... dead?
"I don't think it's necessary for you two to get her." he said looking between the head girl and the Slytherin one. Yes, they might want to talk to her, but he wasn't about to send students that could barely walk off to fetch her.
"I still think our first course of action should be to speak with the Headmistress and the healer. Preferably without so much of an audience." Because, speaking as how the past several minutes have gone, they'd be more of a hindrance than a help at this point.

Hmm. Carter had a point. Maybe they SHOULDN'T go off - one of them could have a heart attack or something along the way. "Alright, how about this - does anyone know where this ghost, erm...hangs out?" Nolan asked. Yeah, that was probably the best way to put it. "Perhaps we could send out a patronus asking her to come meet with us," he suggested. That way no one had to leave, but they could still get her to come talk to them.
Hopefully.

Atticus was listening to everything though he kept silent for awhile, just observing and processing everything that was going on. It seemed they had at least one lead and a couple people to talk to. That was better than nothing at all, yes? Hopefully talking with all of them would give them even more information on this aging thing so they could work on fixing it.
He nodded at both Carter and Nolan in agreement. "We should send a patronus to all three of them." Unless any of the governors wanted to personally go and request they come. The students shouldn't be the ones doing that for them though, especially not in this condition.

Erik hated committee meetings. What this Board really needed to do was to make some decisions, and make them quickly. Children were literally dying before their eyes but instead of getting them medical help, they wanted to talk to a ghost. He shook his head but contributed nothing verbal to the group, choosing instead to rub his chin with his hand as though musing over something.
And indeed he did have some deep thoughts. He thought it was a shame Cassandra Branxton wasn't more of a leader. He thought that was what this Board really needed to do: find someone capable of making some damn decisions. Not that he cared whether these kids lived or died except maybe Alexa, because she had potential, but he just hated having his time wasted by a bunch of adult buffoons.

He didn't think it was necessary for them to go and get her? Well, GOOD. Because she didn't feel like going, and...she was also scared. Yup. Well done, young Governor. Then another man spoke up and asked where the ghost hung out. "In the dungeons," she spoke. "Detention hall, to be specific."
Then talk turned to sending out a patronus, which pretty much put the adults in charge of summoning everybody who needed to come. "Sounds like a job for you and you and you," she said, doing a little finger pointing. Then a random thought occurred to her, and she wondered aloud, "I wonder if I can use magic at home now..." She was OLD, after all.

And were showing mental signs... actually Laura there seemed to be a good example of the mental effects. Unless she was just as daft and troublesome as she'd always been, who really knew?
She listened more. "I would hate for Hogwarts to be closed, but it may certainly come to that, when it may not have had we been informed earlier." But couldn't do much about that now, could they? She wouldn't say it out loud but they were almost lucky that Cassandra's son was one of those effected, or perhaps they might not have had any pre-knowledge at all that there was anything going on before this very meeting.
"Do we know exactly when symptoms began to make themselves known?" Althea tapped her notebook with her finger, not bothering with her wand, and flipped open, the matching quill bobbing up and beginning to take notes.
"We need to speak with Truebridge and Tillstorm, and assess the situation in full before we make such a drastic choice.... especially considering we have no way of knowing it won't spread further, even if others appeared not to be affected over the holiday, we don't know the nature of this affliction. It may be best to quarantine the entire school, rather than close it down, at least initially." She paused and then added, "And St Mungos needs to be alerted, and perhaps a public service announcement asking for anyone with similar symptoms to come forward, just to be sure that nobody outside of Hogwarts has been effected. It may be prudent to liaise with the Ministry," despite their current... issues, "And have them work with St Mungos to investigate stopgaps, and temporary measures that may be taken to reverse and combat the symptoms."
Her quill continued writing.
"What do you need me to do, Cassandra?" Althea added with a respectful nod, making herself entirely available.

"So shall we start by speaking with the Headmistress and Healer?" Yes? Maybe? "Perhaps we ought to see about that new ghost too." Since that had been mentioned twice now.
And just out of curiosity... "How quick do you think we could get additional healers?" That would help speed up the initial exams and help them figure out if a shutdown was necessary.

He nodded at both Carter and Nolan in agreement. "We should send a patronus to all three of them." Unless any of the governors wanted to personally go and request they come. The students shouldn't be the ones doing that for them though, especially not in this condition.
There were several avenues that needed exploration, and none of them required the students to sit around while the Governors debated the finer points of their next steps. None of them really required a debate at all, although Cassandra listened carefully as everyone spoke up. At least they had some next steps, which Thea, Carter, Nolan, and Atticus had outlined nicely for them all.
And for their audience.
"I agree that we cannot continue this conversation without the Headmistress. It would be nice to have the Healer participate in that conversation, if only to provide a medical viewpoint and share what she's discovered so far, although I suspect she hasn't discovered anything... since the children have not received any medical treatment thus far." And that was shameful. They should have received treatment at the first gray hairs.
"We can bring in additional Healers to assist with the examinations, if we need it, but let's start with the easy steps. Let's call on the Headmistress in her office." For privacy, although that didn't need to be stated out loud. "And I would like some of us to drop in to see the Healer and set up the examinations and find out what she knows. And perhaps someone can go interview Mr. Botros, and someone else can go looking for this new ghost.
"I'll go to speak with the Headmistress. I hope we can spread out and get everything done among those who are here today." So that was to say... she expected for those Governors present to step up and volunteer to spread out throughout the school.

Okay.
Okay okay okay, they weren't closing the school and the Gryffindors would have their Quidditch match. Merlin knew how well that would go but WHO CARED??? The Prefect was in no rush to be sent home OR quarantined off in Merlin knows where with people she might not like and a disease she could be dying from slowly. Ugh.
And what was all the talk about the ghost and going to look? It was Burbage? Really? That explained a few things. "I saw the ghost up in the Tower Patch. I think she was looking at her memorial plaque so you might wanna check there." That's where Lex last saw her before she poofed right through them and disappeared somewhere in the castle. Wow. Burbage. Of all people to come back as a ghost, she never thought she'd be one of them. Just wow.
Eyes on Mr. Vinteren for a moment. If anyone would know what to do, it would be him. The fact that he wasn't offering up anything meant one of two things to her. Either he was stll thinking things over or he saw the futility in the situation and knew they were all dying anyway. Merlin.
They were making plans to spread out and talk to people. Grand but what did that leave her doing until they could come to something? "I wanna help." She didn't know HOW but anything was better than sitting here and waiting for her kidneys to start failing.

Okay, so that lady...whoever she was...the one who seemed to be in charge... Anyway, she seemed like she had a plan. Sophie found herself nodding along as that plan was unraveled. Okay, so...time to get started!
...but on what? Sophie had no idea what the students were expected to do first, so she just sat there and waited for direction.
Meanwhile, Lex spoke up and reminded her of something Caleb had said earlier in the school year. "The Tower Patch," she said, "that's right. My brother said the ghost flew right through you guys. That was before she ended up in the dungeons, I think." Enough about that, though. "Me, too. I want to help."
So, let's all play a game of Clue here. It was Ghostie Burbage, in the Tower Patch, with the whole 'fly right through somebody' trick.

"I can go up to see the healer." Carter volunteered. He was interested in know if any trends had been discovered. He then looked at the volunteers. "You can volunteer for examinations when those have been set up." he suggested. "Or you're more than welcome to accompany me upstairs and see if the healer has the time to do that now."
"Perhaps it would be useful to have Professor Botros examined as well?" Unless he'd already visited the healer? Did anyone know?

Ah, they were volunteering for things. The logical choice for Nolan was, of course, to head out and try and find the spirit. Spirits and stuff were his THING. Or at least, what people still THOUGHT was his thing.
"I can go try and track down this ghost," he said with a nod. Maybe - just MAYBE - he could summon some of that Inner Eye magic he still had left and see if he could sense where she was to make his job a bit easier. Doubtful it would work, but he might as well give it a crack, right?
"And I agree, Botros MUST be seen," he said with an adement head nod. Yes, Botros was very interesting and could be crucial to this whole thing. "If he is aging in reverse while everyone else is getting physically older, something is up. Whether it's by some weird twist of fate or - something else," he said. He didn't want to really implicate the man or anything, but everyone else HAD to think it was weird that he was getting younger right? Was he sucking the youth out of the kids or something? WAS HE?

It was nice that the students wanted to help, but there really wasn't much else they could do right now - aside from what Carter said, of course. Their explanations for what had been happening this term were helpful during the meeting, but now the best way they could help was by cooperating and participating in the examinations as requested.
"I'll go speak with Professor Botros," Atticus said with a nod. He personally didn't think the man was responsible for any of this, and perhaps was instead being set up by whoever was the true culprit. It would still be worthwhile to talk with the man though and get his side of the story. Perhaps it would help them further understand and fix what was happening, especially once the examinations began.
So perhaps they should leave and start getting these done now? At least once the president officially dismissed them.

FOR him, not WITH him. That practically made them BFFs, so now they should be sidekicks. Nevermind Botros. Botros was stealing away their youth! Sophie was still sort of suspicious of him. Some Gryffindor volunteered then, which made perfect sense. Weren't they the ones who liked to jump head first into danger anyway? She turned her attention back to Mr. Ghost Hunter. "So, when do we leave?" she asked. She'd been ready to break out this room for at least half an hour now.

Nolan turned and saw that the young girl - the feisty Slytherin - was offering to come with him. She said he used to work with her grandfather? Who was - OH WAIT! This was one of the Newell kids! Nolan knew vaguely of the Newells and was more familiar with the Greingoth side of the clan, but he could see the resemblance.

She WAS able to make her own decisions in the matter, of course, but he'd rather see her turned back into a normal child instead of crumbling in front of him like she currently was! It was sad to look at, especially since he could easily picture Scarlett or Clay in her situation, and that made him anxious and all the more ready to try and figure this out.
"Anyone coming with us to the Tower Patch?" he asked, turning and calling out to the room. After pausing a moment to let people decide if they wanted to come or not, he turned and walked out the door, motioning for the young girl to follow him if she still wanted to.

Sophie waited until she could finally see recognition dawning on the man's face. Yup. Greingoth. She knew they had connections somewhere. "Stay here and get help?" she questioned. Hmph. She turned to look at the other man (Carter) then turned back to this man. Leaning over, she whispered, "I don't think so. They're talking experiments, and no. Just no." She'd come get healed when the experimenting phase was done and somebody had a sure fire cure.
"The Tower Patch?" she asked. UGH. Why did it have to be the HIGHEST floor in the castle. She didn't even think she could make it back to her bed at this point. "Any chance you can...you know. Carry me?" she asked. But no. The man had already taken off and left her here to crawl after him.

As it was asked if anyone would come to the Tower Patch, Lux raised her hand. "I will come." She had no issues with her joints or getting tired, and she figured it would be good for her. No matter how scared she was of ghosts, maybe seeing one again would cure her of the fear. If nothing else, maybe she could hide behind one of the adults.

Cassandra was well pleased when, after a long moment, the Governors started volunteering to spread throughout the school and assist with solving this rather dramatic issue presenting itself. She nodded cheerfully at Carter when he offered to see the Healer.
"We'll have to invite in some Healers from the Ministry or Mungo's, but you can coordinate that with Healer Tillstorm while you're at it. Take some of these infected students along, if you can."

"Thank you, Atticus," Cassandra gave him a nod as well. Professor Botros was a well respected member of the staff and deserved to be handled as such, and she had confidence the man could show due deference while still getting to the bottom of things. "If you spot any other staff members along the way, feel free to get their thoughts too."
No reason to target the poor man.

Carter nodded at Madame President and stood up. Off to see the healer! "Anyone interested in coming with me?" he asked looking at the students. Although... four flights of stairs probably didn't appeal to them. And, in all honestly, he didn't think he could handle watching. It was like scouts all over again.
"I could... carry someone..." he added in a softer voice.
Was... that weird? Heh. Those quidditch muscles had to be good for something. Right?

It was a bit weird, the carrying thing. Though considering this was Anya-face's brother, Ella figured he was okay. And that Alec wouldn't be mad or anything. Besides, she could get herself to the stairs okay. She'd probably just need a lift going up them. Just saying. She was also kind of eager to get out of this room because she was feeling like she was going to have a panic attack right about now. Thoughts of death and possible school closings were a lot to handle, yeah?
"I'll go." To the healer's, that is. An examination couldn't hurt and the Head Boyfriend had been asking her to make the trip for weeks. Might as well take the time now.
Thank Odin they were finally dismissed. Erik stood up as soon as it was appropriate, tugging Ivy along with him. "Ve should go talk to the Runes man," he murmured in her ear. If they left it to Atticus, they might never get good answers. That man was too soft. But Ivy...well, she was a great interrogator, let's just say.
He would ignore the awkward offer Governor Phillips had just made to the students on his way out the door. Carrying them? Really? In what dimension was that appropriate? He felt bad for Cambridge and all, but you didn't see him offering to touch any wrinkly and shriveled-up oldsters.

Oh, she was standing up now. Thank you, Erik, because she was so incapable of doing it herself. Ivy smoothed her skirt over as Erik spoke quietly in her ear. She nodded in agreement. She was quite an interrogator, if she did say so herself. Erik knew just how much she loved asking questions.

Perhaps it would help them further understand and fix what was happening, especially once the examinations began.
So perhaps they should leave and start getting these done now? At least once the president officially dismissed them.
"We're coming with you," she told the man, stepping away from her chair. Cassandra had given them permission to leave, so Ivy started to make her way out the door and waved her hand, signaling for the men to follow her lead.

Or not. Carter glanced at the spot the patronus was for a few more seconds. Headmistresses office. Okay. He could do that. He turned his attention to the head girl. "How about you just keep an eye out to see if there's a notice about examinations with the healer?" he suggested. "I should check out what's going on upstairs."
And with that the Governor headed out to see what was going on in the headmistress's office.
