Default Astrophysics Laboratory

Located next door to Professor Flamsteed's office, the Astrophysics Laboratory is strictly off limits to unsupervised students and the door has been charmed locked. You could try to remove the charm, but that would not be very wise on your part as you would walk away with lime green eyebrows that won't fade for days and hair growing out of your ears down to the floor. On occasion, Professor Flamsteed will hold special laboratory lessons and assign homework that can only be completed by using this room. Those wishing to use the laboratory MUST do so under Professor Flamsteed's supervision.

The laboratory consists of 20 hardtop wooden tables with cushioned stools. On each table you will find a microscope and other forms of equipment to help students with their scientific research. The shelves on the walls are neatly organized with books, flasks, jars of powdered elements, and everything an aspiring astronomer could think of.

There's some good in this world and it's worth fighting for| LOTR|Whovian|Sherlock Fan

Sander decided that he was done for the day. Before he left he made sure that everything was in ship shape order. It definitely wouldn't bode well for him if his solar system died...or worse yet...exploded...or even worse yet....accidentally escaped from the container, went zipping around lose in the Astrophysics Lab causing damage before exploding!!

So the first thing, Sander did was to make sure the planets he had made was zipping around inside the container the way they should be. He peered through the glass surface of the container and examined each one of them.

Okay he had a total of seven planets. So far so good. Momentum and direction? Check. Color? Check.

Now to check both the moon and the Sun. Moon? One. Check. Orbiting around Rivendell? Check. Sun? Color? Brilliant white? Check.

Once he had ensured that his solar system was intact and behaving the way they should be, Sander next made sure that the lid of the glass container was securely fastened. He pressed down hard on it using his finger tips, making sure that all sides and corners were indeed all the way in and that there was no possibility of an accidental air leak.

Confident that everything was the way it should be, Sander checked one last time that his workstation was clean and that the lid of the bottle containing the powdered iron was securely fastened close.

He took one last look at his solar system, before leaving his workstation and heading back to the lockers. Taking off his white lab jacket and goggles, Sander placed them back into the locker with his name on it.

He then glanced over at his friends who were still working on creating their solar system. Sander decided that he would wait for them outside as he exited the lab.

|G&T=<3|Snuggles her ALI!| <3's Saz |Master Lurker|

Bay was really happy on how things were going so far.. he stopped what he was doing to press his face close to the glass that held his solar system… "this is way to cool" he said, he defiantly didn't want to be home schooled anymore and he hoped that his parents would let him stay.. especially if he got to do all this cool stuff here…not to mention have great super friends.

now that he had a closer look.. he saw that he had five planets and a sun… wait.. he defiantly needed a moon… yeah.. that should be his next one… he hoped it was the same steps as to make a planet… looking down at his notes he didn't see anything.. oh well here goes nothing.

Following the same steps as he did for the planets.. Bay watched it transform in front of his eyes.. he still couldn't get over this.. way too cool.. concentrating on making it a moon.. he was successful…..phew… thank goodness.. he put it in the box with the others.. now to stare at it some more… it was really pretty.. he could look at this all day..

oh he needed to close the lid.. quickly and a little too loudly he slammed down the lid.. "oopps sorry" he said to anyone who was around him.. he just wanted to make sure that everything was safe and sound…

looking down at his notes again he added Moon to his solar system.. so that made 1 sun, 5 planets and 1 moon.. he still wanted to add some more.

Now that his sun was back to normal, Adi decided to get moving on his moons. As he gathered more ingredients into his mortar, he nodded at Benny. "Yep. It was my sun. It got all blue.'' Of course, if the sun died he could just make another one all over again but as weird as it sounded, he liked this sun. He kept an eagle eye on it as he began crushing a small stone and some iron.

When he had crushed enough, Adi grabbed his wand and jabbed it towards the mortar. "Fingere Elementi!" His first moon had formed! How exciting. He looked at it in wonder. This was so cool!

The Puffer repeated this process until he had five moons in total.

His sun...gone blue. OH!

Yeah that was cause for alarm and Benny understood the reaction Adi had given over beside him. Good to see things were alright now. He himself carefully added the latest planet to the rest before closing the box once more and stepping back to check his own system. It looked alright to him from his sun to his various planets suspended there at various points around.

It was also almost finished and Ben was glad of that fact because he could use a break. Maybe a nice nap back in his dorm. but first, the Gryffindor had one more planet to make. One more gathering of the ingredients from the foliage to the stone to the iron all added into the mortar and pestle. And then once more beginning to crush all of the ingredients together in one big...or maybe not so big pile of material to make up the basis of the last and final planet.

Crush....crush...crush.
Gather up into center
Crush...crush...crush.

Finally it was all crushed up with nowhere to go but in one direction. "Fingere Elementi!" He cast once more with a jab at the mixture. All Ben could do was watch as the latest planet developed before his eyes.

Voila.

"It looked nice when it was blue, though,'' Adi mused. But he couldn't have a blue sun now, could he? "The sun should have been blue in reality,'' he muttered absent mindedly. Such a pretty colour.

Right. Back to his moon making. He had five in total and he needed five more. Because in his mind, his six planets had ten in total. He had no idea why, they just did. Adi added a stone and some foliage and crushed then together. He performed the spell and presto! His sixth moon! He repeated this step four more times until he had the ten moons in total.

As Adi added the last moon to the solar system, he sang softly. It was a silly song that he made up as he went along.

Hey, little Solar System,
Your sun shines so brightly,
as six various sized planets lurk nearby,
their moons doing the same,
Hey little Solar System, you look so pretty today.

And now he was all done. The Puffer stood back and admired his work. Everything seemed to be okay, the Sun included. Now, he cleaned up his table and the mortar and pestle. "All done here, Benny. Ready to go when you are.'' Adi planted himself on the stool and waited for the Dragon to finish up.

One.

More.

PLANET!

... Good thing too because he didn't have much foliage and only some of the smaller stones left. A small frown formed across his face as he stared down at the ingredients and then over at his glass box. Would it be enough? He... hoped so. Laziness had settled in a long time ago and the last thing he wanted to do was head on over to get more foliage and stones. The stool was comfortable, you know. Maybe not that great for his back but comfortable.

... Yeah... he was going to risk is then.

The Head Boy scooped up two scoops of iron and added them into the mortar before adding all of the foliage and stones too, even the smallest of stones and little fragments. Shrug. It would all be powdered up, yeah? Picking up the pestle, he started crushing the items in the mortar. Crush... crush... crush... this was tiring, you know ... crush... crush... crush...

... Crushing...

When was naptime?

... More crushing...

... And done! Right? Yeah? A couple of seconds of squinting down at the items in the mortar told him yes. Awesome. Now it was time for the moment of truth. Picking up his wand, he pointed it towards the powdered mix in the mortar and cried, "Fingere Elementi!" JAB!

... Erm... was it meant to be taking this long for a planet to form? His breath hitched in his throat as he looked up and around the laboratory, his eyes wide. This probably wasn't meant to happen, right? Breathe... Maybe it was okay. Maybe he could... could get some more foliage and stones and then be able to make another--

PLANET!

A really small one at that. He squinted a little down at the particularly swirly and ashen-coloured planet that had formed. ... Right. Box. Opening it, he tossed the planet inside before shutting it firmly again. His grey-blue eyes stayed fixed to the inside of the box though and, more specifically, at the smallest planet. Was that... okay? Yeah? And was he done?

"Do you suppose the color of the stone or the type of foliage makes a big difference in what the planet looks like when it forms? I want them to be differently colored, and I want one with rings." It was important, this ring thing.

Just to test the theory, Mo selected a red-brown pebble, a green-black one, a knobbly gray, and a pale white one that looked perfect for skipping. That was one stone per planet he intended to make, in addition to the green one he'd made previously. "How many are you going to make? Planets, I mean." Mo moved on to selecting foliage... theoretically easier, although it never really was.
"That feels like it could be our house motto" Besides First in Fun of course. That one will stay till they graduate. Onward to planet making. Nigel did assume that it was the foliage since it covered the stone. But it all comes together in magic. So Nigel did not know.

"Dull colors may make a dull looking planet. Though adding rings would make it awesome"

Nigel did want to test this theory. He picked a the four brightest color stones he could find. A yellow, red, green, and baby blue. Plus some random foliage. He was all set to start making some interesting planets. That was his hope at least.

"I think the five should do it. Though i don't know about moons yet and too bad we can't make huge asteroids to come and destroy my planets."

"I thought our motto was... 'Wit beyond measure is man's greatest treasure'. Or something." Which, honestly, wasn't even a very witty motto, so it sort of belied the point. How could it suggest that they valued wit when it wasn't even witty? HMM?

Mo followed Nigel's lead, grabbing up several random bits of foliage. He'd never considered that the foliage might impact the color of his planets... the blue rock and blue-green pine needles he'd selected had created a glittering blue little planet. Maybe he could do some mixing and matching to come up with some similar color combinations. The red-brown pebble went with bright pink flowers, the green-black with some rich glossy leaves, the ugly gray stone with a crumbling cattail, and the white stone with some pale strands of long grass. That seemed like a nice variety.

He dropped the red pebble and flowers into the mortar, added some iron powder, and started grinding. "This seems like a lot of work. Do you suppose these will last longer than those stars we made last time around?"

Bay had to take a five minute break.. phew… his arms were starting to hurt him… shake it out Bay shake it out.. standing up he moved his arms around like they were made of jelly.. he didn't care who was looking at him weird… this was a total work out..

sitting back down in his chair he though he should make at least two more planets.. grabbing his foliage and small stone for both planets… making his way back to his desk, he started to grind..

"grind……grind……grind…..grind….grind…"

looking down in his mortar he saw that it was all done.. "maybe I'm getting stronger?" he thought while trying to hold back a laugh. too bad he could only grind what he needed for one planet only..

Picking up his wand he did the movement and said the enchantment again.. this was starting to be very hard work.. but everything was so pretty so he didn't mind..

placing his planet in the box he closed the lid and started grinding the for the next planet.

"grind……grind……grind…..grind….grind…"

was he grunting while he was grinding his materials…. ugghhhhh hopefully if he did no one heard him.. following the same steps he created his 7th planet… and he placed it in the box with the rest.. his box started to seem so full.. maybe I should stop.. gotta let my sun, moon and planets breathe and have their own space and so each planet will stick out with their wonderful colours...

Lux wanted to make another two planets and one more moon before finishing her solar system, so she decided she would grab the rest of the stuff she needed in one go and finish it off before putting everything away again and leaving. It was getting late, so she was beginning to feel tired and was wanting to go to bed soon.

This time, she gathered up more foliage than usual, and three stones instead of just one. Of course, she had made sure that everything she gathered was pretty, though she would still love her little babies even if they weren't conventionally pretty.

Back at her workstation, she made sure that all of her equipment was clean before putting some of the foliage, one of the stones, and two scoops of iron into the mortar. Smush. Smush. Smush. She ground everything up into a fine powder before repeating the Fingere Elementi spell. Once again, she momentarily opened the lid, tossing the forming planet inside before closing it up tight. "I shall call you Chocolate Frog." Chocolate Frogs were so yummy, she couldn't not name a planet after them.

Cleaning her mortar and pestle, she placed the rest of the foliage she had gathered, another one of the stones, and two more scoops of iron into the mortar. More smushing until that was powder as well. Another jab, saying the Fingere Elementi spell, and that planet soon joined it's siblings inside the container. "You shall be called S'more." Now all she had to do was give S'more a moon and sing to her solar system, and she would be ready to pack up and leave.

Cleaning her equipment, she placed the last stone in the mortar before adding a bit of the powder. Grinding it up into a powder, she did the Fingere Elementi spell one last time and soon her moon was inside the container so that it could orbit around S'more. "You shall be called Marshmallow."

There, she had eight planets, three moons, and a sun. Not a bad solar system in her opinion.

Tessa walked up to the front of the room and peered into the box, trying to determine what to use for her next planet. Her eyes finally settled on a dandelion. She didn't know where the Professor had found it this time of year, but she didn't care. As quick as her groaning joints would allow, she took it and moved on to take a pale grey stone and the two scoops of iron.

These she brought back to her work station and quickly began grinding them up. The work was slow, her joints crying out in agony after the last few celestial bodies she had made...

Grinnnnnddddd
Grind
Grinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd

Finally, she was finished. She picked up her wand, and took a breath, clarifying the spell in her mind. She didn't want her last planet to blow up in her face. And, after a thought, she decided to try the spell silently.

'Fingere Elementi' she thought, concentrating hard on the spell and willing the spell to work and the planet to form. Her body may be frail, but her will had never been stronger. Sure enough, when she opened her eyes- she hadn't even realized she closed them- there was a small pop and a small golden yellow planet hovered before her.

"Yes!" she exclaimed, as loudly as she dared, and picked up the planet. After a quick examination, she dropped into the solar system and closed the box quickly. She watched the planets all orbiting around and was struck by a sudden thought. "They look like the Quidditch balls in a game," she murmured to herself, and quickly began scribbling down some notes on what she wanted to name her planets.

"Yeah. But why not have a couple different motto's"
Nigel never really liked their house's real motto. It was not fun and not even that witty. Sure it rhymed. But some people expected more from Ravenclaw. Nigel was not one of those.

But still wanted a new motto.

He was just about ready to create a new planet. He put the two scoops of iron into the mortar and then added the stone and some foliage. Next was the fun part. He crushed it all into a fine powder.

Nothing survived. He tossed it into the box. "Yeah. But maybe that was the strength of your spell." Just an idea. "Fingere Elementi" There was his second planet. It looked kind of weird. Not the way he imagined it. "Looks like crushing all of it affects it more than i thought"

The red stone was totally powdered, and Mo carefully poured the mixture into the box. It was carefully closed before he pointed his wand. "Fingere Elementi." No boom this time, but again the materials gathered themselves into an impressive little planet. Mars-like this time, with striations in shades of red and pink.

"What do you suppose the secret will be to forming rings? I'm totally sold on that being part of this project. Maybe double rings. Best planet in class. What do you think?" He cleaned out the mortar before dumping in the green rock and leaves, plus two scoops of the iron powder, and then Mo set about grinding away at it once again.

"How many planets do we need? Fingere Elementi." This time, the planet was small and dark, green and black shapes shifting across the surface and Mo chucked the third planet into his box.

After what seemed like forever, the eighteen year old set down the pestle and reached for her wand. What...was the incantation again? Blink. Blink. Blink. Seriously? She knew this. It was... ... ...OH!

"Fingere Elementi!"

BEAM!

Green was her favorite and so this planet, with all it's green goodness was her favorite too. She carefully added it to the box and was just reaching for another stone when Toby spoke up. Quidditch, eh?

"The Harpies. They've been my favorite ever since I learned about Quidditch. What about yours?" And she smiled over at him before looking down at her work again.

Purple stone. Well, a grey-ish purple but still, extremely pretty. She had a darker purple petal that would go nicely with it and she searched for that, eventually locating it among some sticks. Both the stone and the petal were then added to a newly cleaned mortar before the blonde went through the familiar motion of adding two scoops of Iron. Scoop. Scoop.

Now for the crushing. Oh joy! /Sarcasm.

Crush. Crush. Crush...

"For sure," Toby replied, grinning. It had taken the Hufflepuff a while to work out why the man seemed so familiar or whatever, but he'd eventually come to the conclusion that he and Airey just had a lot in common, and it was comforting to have someone around like that. Flamsteed could stay. "I like him."

Crush, crush, crush...

Thank Merlin that Tobias only had one more left to do after this one. His energy levels really weren't up to the task of physical labour these days, gosh. It was a good job he was, technically, an athlete, as it meant his stamina was at a decent level. Still, Tobias missed the days when crushing up a few stones would be no more difficult than BREATHING, and he sorely hoped he'd have those days back eventually.

But rather than dwell on all that for much longer, Tobias put all his focus on creating these planets and the prospect of having a totally AWESOME solar system that he made all on his own. Positive thinking, see? Tobias was awesome at it.

Soon enough, the crushing for this one was done, and Tobias set down the pestle again and picked up his wand.

"Fingere Elementi!"

Sah-weeeeeeeeeet. Everything was going well. Toby smiled at his own productivity again, lifted the lid of his box, and dropped in the new planet. Once again, he couldn't quite help himself from peering in and watching to see how the planets were getting on learning to orbit. Toby also liked the way some planets were a little bigger than the others; it made it more realistic. If he'd not been so weirdly weak, Tobias may have even given one of them a moon, too, but figured he'd just stick with the basics.

Last one now. Tobias grabbed a twig and a leaf, picked up his last stone (a really dark one which looked pitch black but really could have been anything behind the tint of his goggles) and put them in the mortar. Once he'd added two scoops of their steadily dwindling supply of iron, Toby picked up the mortar again and began bashing it against the stone to break it up.

Ahhh, so Ella liked the Harpies. That was cool, and good to know, even if it hadn't been the question Tobias had originally intended to ask. He smiled again.

"Magpies," the younger Hufflepuff responded, giving the contents of his mortar are particularly strong whack, which broke up the big stone into three parts. Perfect for crushing. "I want to play for them one day." In fact, the Magpies U17 team was the team Tobias was trying out for, as well as the England U17 team. It was good to aim high, after all.

Tobias continued smiling to himself as he crushed the elements down into a fine powder, now half daydreaming about being out on a huge Quidditch pitch in the black and white robes of the Magpies. He wasn't sure what position he'd play, but Tobias was certain it would involve the Quaffle.

Before he could get too into the daydream, Toby realised the crushing was all done. He exchanged pestle for wand once again.

"Fingere Elementi!"

On a whim, Cutty had decided to take advantage of Professor Culloden's wrinkle potion and in combination with that he'd taken a stab at dying his hair back to it's normal almost black colour. The result was a more youthful looking exterior paired with the achy-jointed, varicose-veined, bespectacled boy you see before you who was shuffling into the Astronomy lab all the way up from the bowels of the castle. A glass case not far behind him was on float and inside the components of Cutty's galaxy intermingled politely with one another. Pizza, the smaller planet was by far the fastest, but Fat Jimmy (Cutty's largest planet) was taking up so much space that it almost was the size of the sun which shone brightly in the middle.

Cutty found himself a comfortable spot and began setting up the space parking his glass case nearby his seat and cleaning each tool he was going to need for this as he removed them from his bag. Once his bowls and measuring scoops along with the mortar and pestle were cleansed, Cutty moved over to the closest to the safety equipment. Professors were particular about that and he saw no need to make a huge ordeal when it would serve to be useless.

Ana had just remembered that she still needed to make more planets for her little solar system. In the excitement of Terry asking her out she'd completely forgotten about the fact that she had Astronomy homework. Well not that she'd had homework, more how soon it was actually due. She'd gotten a bit of a scare as she'd looked at the noticeboard and seen how little time she had left to complete her work. That was why she was now hurrying up the stairs, her little solar system floating in front of her, to the Astrophysics Lab.

When Ana reached the lab she was slightly out of breath and had to lean against the desk she sat her box down on. They should invest in elevators here. Didn't they know people her age couldn't be expected to walk so much? As soon as her breath had returned to her Ana walked over and grabbed a lab coat and glasses, putting them both on while walking back to the desk. Sitting down she got out everything she'd need, making sure all of her equipment was clean before looking down at her notes for what she'd need. What she read made her groan. More walking to grab the rocks and foliage.

WHYYYYYYY?

The gloves fit surprisingly well. Much better than his dragon hide gloves that he used for Herbology which he and his mum had to dig for in the sale section on accounta money scarcity. The labcoat, though, he was going to have to fix that. Somewhere in his charms book there had to be a spell that rearranged embroidered letters.

And nods to the girl he tried out for Quidditch with. What was her name again? He was sure he'd heard at least one person call her Constantinople, but he had a feeling this was wrong.

Carrying on with his work, Cutty, or Cuthbert as the name on his labcoat read, mass gathered rocks, foliage and a bowl of iron. That should be enough for the several other planets Professor Flamsteed had asked them to make. He intended to make at least five more planets to add to his solar system mob. He carefully got into his seat, not only for old-person reasons, but he also did not wish to touch the glass the was encasing his solar system for it was hot from his brightly glowing sun.

The boy began making the little ticking sounds of one who is trying to break up rocks. TACK! Tip-tack they hit the inside of the mortar, the tacking sounds soon replaced by the grinding of Cutty's pestle against them.

Ana looked up in time to notice a younger boy smiling at her. She recognised him from tryouts and around the common room so she gave him a small, friendly, smile of her own. She would have said hello to him but he seemed to be as busy working on his solar system as she was. Best leave him to it.

Ana slowly pushed herself from her seat and grabbed some choice pieces of foliage, taking longer than necessary as she examined each piece carefully, putting some of them back in the box as she decided she didn't like the look of them. She was much less picky about the rocks though. Those she just grabbed willy nilly. As long as she had enough to make all her planets she didn't really care what they looked like. Well, she did choose smaller looking rocks. Hopefully crushing those would be easier on her joints. She grabbed the iron as an afterthought as she walked back to her desk, setting everything down carefully.

Sitting back down on her stool Ana grabbed a piece of foliage and placed it along with the rock into her mortar before looking back at her notes. Two scoops of iron. Alright, she could do that. Ana pulled her scoop towards her and picked up the iron she'd grabbed, pouring it carefully into the scoop before tipping that into the mortar, repeating the process once more before she pushed them away from her and started crushing. The smaller rocks definitely helped and she found it easier to get everything crushed into a powder consistency. It did still take effort though and her hand cramped a bit. She'd rest after she performed the spell and placed her planet.

"Fingere Elementi," Ana cast after unholstering her wand. She watched carefully as her tiny planet formed, smiling happily when she saw it was a success. Another cute little planet for her adorable solar system. She picked her planet up carefully before opening the lid on her box and dropping it in. This planet ended up being much further away than her first planet had been.

Bay was happy that his work was finally completed but he wanted to make sure everything was alright.

Pressing his face to the box again he counted everything out..

"okay thats.. one..two..three..four..five..six..and seven planets" he checked that off of his notes.

"one moon and one sun" check and check.. phew.. no more grinding thank goodness.. he rubbed his soar arms. Alrighty time for cleaning up.. he put the un-used foliage and stones back where they belonged and put the iron back on the table where he had grabbed it from..

looking around his work area he made sure no mess was surrounding it.. before putting his notes, books and quill in his bag and making his way to the door.

Astronomy homework. Marigold was running a bit behind, but was excited to make AND NAME other planets and a sun. She grabbed the foliage - STILL a weird name - and a stone. She would focus on making the planets one by one, yep.

First, she put the plants and stone in her mortar. Then, adding two scoops of iron, she began grinding them up. It took about five minutes before she was satisfied with her powdery thing. She had practiced the spell beforehand, but figured it wouldn't hurt to practice again now.

"Fingere Elementi," she said, practicing the wand movement as well. Then, satisfied, "Fingere Elementi!" She watched in awe as an itty bitty planet formed.

AWW.

This one was named Chocka.

This was the boring part of creating a universe, the grinding up of the rocks and it made Cutty wish that he knew the charm Professor Flamsteed had used that day in class when he'd gotten his pestle to grind on it's own. The old little boy let go of the pestle and took out his wand. "Animatus!", he gave it a go, but nothing came of it except the sound of his mildly offensive song half hummed and half sung a few minutes later.

Following this was the chinking sound of the little rocks hitting the floor of the glass box, as Cutty had opened up his solar system container. He knelt down by it carefully, his sun was glowing a rather bluish colour and it was keeping his glass container rather warm. Holding his wand and peeping in on his solar system, he whispered very quietly, but intently a curse. One try. Two tries. But the sun grew entirely too hot and Cutty let go of the lid suddenly feeling his fingers start to warm up through the gloves. He moved over to his Astronomy book and paged to the back where the handy list of spells were kept.

Dextrini Potitus. Right. Got it. He took up his wand by the hilt and jabbed then flicked down at his glowing sun. "Dextrini Potitus." The colour of the sun immediately began to change quite rapidly as though it were passing through a spectrum until it paused at a poppy shade before it moved on to a more blatant shade of red. But it was much bigger than before. Bigger and dusty?

Cutty watched as the sun gradually expired and his planets fell to the bottom of their glass enclosure as if finishing a game of ring around the rosies.

"Fingere Elementi!"

They agreed, then. That happened a lot, the agreeing thing. Ella was inclined to believe that they were brain twins, her and Tobias. He was her very own little brother at Hogwarts and she was keeping him, okay? Just saying.

The stone and purple petal were now more than adequately crushed with the iron so Ella was ready for the spell. She paused and looked around for her wand once more, only to realize a second later that it was IN her hand. Mental face!palming was happening hardcore right now. WHAT was her brain? Merlin! Anyway, spell time. Yes.

"Fingere Elementi!"

N'awww, purple planet was pretty. Reminded her a bit of prunes, actually. Was it weird to crave prunes? Had she ever actually tried a prune? Oakey had probably given her one or slipped one into a smoothie so she wouldn't be surprised. She thought on this while she added the purple planet carefully to the box with her others, noting she only needed one more.

Magpies, huh? "They're good." Really good. Ella smiled a little at the thought of Toby playing professionally and added thoughtfully, "Maybe you'll play with or against Alec one day." Since he was headed down that road too. That would be nice, seeing them on the same pitch again after Hogwarts. She'd really like that.

Pulling an orange stone towards her, Ella coupled it with a tiny pale petal and added it to the mortar. Then she added the two scoops of iron and began the painful crushing process. Gah. This really wasn't fun anymore.

Crush. Crush. Crush. Crush.

Luckily the stone was rather aged like she was so it didn't take her too long to break down and the contents of the mortar were reduced to powder in no time. Thank goodness, yeah? Her hand couldn't take much more of this.

Picking up her wand, the eighteen year old smiled a little in anticipation and then said clearly for the last time, "Fingere Elementi!" And there it was, her last planet. Pale orange and cute and making her want an actual orange to eat. She was clearly in need of a trip to the Great Hall after this, huh? Food on the brain.

Ella carefully guided it into the box and shut the lid, bending down a bit and wincing so that she could take a closer look at her little Solar System. "It's brilliant." And that was totally tooting her own horn but she really liked this assignment, okay?

"What do you suppose the secret will be to forming rings? I'm totally sold on that being part of this project. Maybe double rings. Best planet in class. What do you think?" He cleaned out the mortar before dumping in the green rock and leaves, plus two scoops of the iron powder, and then Mo set about grinding away at it once again.

"How many planets do we need? Fingere Elementi." This time, the planet was small and dark, green and black shapes shifting across the surface and Mo chucked the third planet into his box.
Nigel was happy with his weird two planets and decided to continue this at a faster pace. Maybe his solar system will be unique. He added his yellow stone, foliage, and the iron. Nigel crushed it all together like he was suppose to. This was pretty easy once you knew what you were doing.

"Fingere Elementi"

There a green planet. How did it become that color? Nigel did not know. But why question it. Now rings. Interesting. "Maybe a pebble, foliage and the spell. Though that might be for a moon." Nigel did not really know how to make moons either and did not really want to make any. Just the planets were enough. "I think it was 5 or 6"

Nigel repeated the progress now with his baby blue rock. Put it in the mortrar with more foligage and the scoops needed. He crushed them. There basically done with two more planets. "Fingere Elementi"

He tossed the two planets into his box and watched the four planets circle the sun.

Pretty Awesome.

"Or I could end up with an unwanted sixth planet," Mo mused as he added the lumpy gray rock and cattail into the mortar, plus the two scoops of the iron powder. It was the same spell regardless of what he was trying to do, so it was impossible to know how to differentiate between making a planet, a moon, or rings.

Except intent. He could do intent.

Mo poured the contents of his mortar into the box and pointed his wand, this time thinking of a medium sized planet, with a ring around it, perfectly proportionate to the planet's size. "Fingere Elementi." He watched as the materials gathered into a planetoid shape, and then grinned broadly as the middle of the planet pouched out to form a slightly wobbly ring.

"It worked. I'm a genius. Do you note my genius? You might want to write it down there on your parchment." Mo carefully cleaned out his mortar and added the last pebble, the white one, and the grass and iron powder. One last planet, and he didn't need this one to be anything special, not now that they RINGS.

"What are you naming those planets?"

It was time to clean up, so Lux made sure that everything was clean before putting the iron back where she had gotten it and packing up her stuff. It had been fun making her solar system, but it was now time for bed so she was a little pleased that she was finished. Too bad she couldn't add more suns to it, or hug the one she had. It would be awesome to hug everything she had made, but probably not the best idea. Nothing stopped her from giving her container another hug though, and that is exactly what Lux did now. While hugging her solar system, she quietly and softly sang Under the Sea to it; everyone liked The Little Mermaid.

Once she was done singing, she said goodbye to her little solar system and after grabbing her bag headed over to the locker so that she could put away her goggles and coat. After saying goodbye to Professor Flamsteed, she made her way out the door, joining her friends.

That's Rough Buddy | Be the Flower | Moon & Stars

Those stairs were going to kill her one of these days. She taken about a hundred breaks in between and yet, she was more exhausted than a mooncalf in a full moon. Beverly dragged her sore feet into the Astrophysics Lab, grabbed lab coat and goggles, then waddle/limped toward the station her little, lonely sun was at.

She tapped on the jar lightly. Her sun was still alive, so that was a good sign, but it was lonely. Bev hated loneliness. Lucky for it she was going to make it some friends.

Waiiiiit... She'd forgotten something. Oh right! The foliage, stones and iron. Ugh. Duh!

A moment later, the Slytherin sat back down at her work station, checking off the ingredients. Check, check, and cheeeck. Now for the mortar. Wiggling her fingers, she chose a flower and onyx-ish coloured-looking stone, then set them in the mortar with the iron. Grinding them was a pain right in the butt. Her joints protested as if they had a mind of their own.

When they were fine powder, Beverly brandished her wand and jabbed at the powder. JAB JAB. "Fingere Elementi!"
