Astronomy Lesson 2 :: create your own Solar System lab
The door to the Astrophysics Laboratory has been left ajar for today's lesson and as you approach the first thing you may or may not notice is that the usual small table with Professor Flamsteed's trusty lint roller is no where to be seen. The usual semicircle formation of desks has been replace by the more standard classroom set up with rows of hardwood tables and, instead of chairs, cushioned stools for students to sit on. At each station is a large glass box and small dark jars labeled 'H,' 'He,' and 'Fe' respectively.
Before you take your seat, however, be sure to take your white lab coat and goggles out of the enchanted closest with your name embroidered on it in your house color. You will definitely be needing those today. Safety first.
Professor Flamsteed is standing by the blackboard with his balance on his trusty cane and his right hand clenched behind his back as if hiding something.
⌦Lesson Progression
▸ question 1 :: ancient people witnessed 7 'wandering stars'...but what do we know them as?

Star... project? Adrienne had no idea what the man was talking about, and frankly she was beginning to get very, very annoyed by everyone shouting and being unable to hear and it was all just rubbing her the wrong way. The sooner someone could fix this old-age epidemic, the better, and she could only be thankful that it hadn't affected her yet. She was pretty bummed that she'd missed something as cool as that star project from 'a few terms ago' seemed, but still, the project for class sounded pretty exciting.
However, she already had no idea of the answer to the first question. It was, of course, going to either be hydrogen or helium, since they'd already established that those were what you found in stars, but as to which one Adrienne had no idea. She figured she had a 50/50 chance if she just guessed, so she randomly chose an answer and raised her hand. "Helium, possibly." Maybe. Probably? Maybe. As for the incantation and wand movement, she had even less of an idea, so she just kept silent.

It is perfectly fiiiiiine to not understand right away, you are here at Hogwarts to learn," he explained to her. Yes, it was useful information, but it was not entirely necessary for being able to perform the necessary spells. "However, if you would like and she does not mind...I believe Miss Ella could assist you with today's activity." Because 1) Head Girl 2) she was a gifted Astronomy student and 3) .....er...he forgot what the third one was...but it had been a good one.
Plus, the Hufflepuff looked especially excited about this. She had been one of the ones to ask him about doing the star in a jar project again and that had inspired this whole lesson concept. Although it had more been 'planet in a jar' back then, it had been the gift from Medea that he held in his hand now that had turned it into the Solar System in a glass box.
Oh, right... textbook. Lux really wasn't sure she wanted to look in there, because every time she tried to, it ended up confusing her even more. Maybe it was just that she did not understand space and never would. Unless she studied really hard on the subject and surprised Professor Flamsteed with her awesome Astronomy skills. "Thank you, Professor... I think I will do that." Meaning both seeing him later on if she needed it, and asking if the Head Girl would help her. She was feeling relieved now, and she was sure that it could be seen on her face; at least she could still do this activity even without understanding a word of what he said.
The question he then asked required a bit of thought, and since she couldn't really say 'a spell that makes things hot' without sounding like an idiot, she decided to sit this one out as well. More note taking will be done when he explained it to everyone in a bit.

Making their OWN solar system? This was why Flamsteed was her favorite. And of course Alice knew which element she'd need more of, as well as what the spell was, but her painful elbows weren't quite speedy enough to shoot into the air as fast as others' had, so she asked a question instead.
"Will we need to use Crescere Hydrogenenii or Cumugasalis, too, professor? To increase Hydrogen or Helium, whichever we need more of?" And did that count as not giving the answer away?

Someone needed help? Ella glanced over at the younger girl and gave her a small smile, then over to Airey who had mentioned her name. "I'd be happy to help, Professor." But did that mean she had to move or? Oh Merlin, that was going to be a hassle. The eighteen year old decided to wait until the activity started before she did that, knowing it'd take her ages.
Wait...If you like it then you should have put a ring on it. Saturn. RINGS. HAHAHAHAH! Ella snorted and covered her mouth, not able to stop the giggling. That was quite funny, Airey-face. Ella approved so much. She'd give him points for that if she could. Maybe just awesome points. She could handle that.
And which element would they use more of?
"I believe the sun is made up of more Hydrogen than Helium so I'd go with that." Mhm! And Ella could not for the life of her remember the incantation to the spell they'd used during star making but she'd loved that activity. LOVED. LOVED. LOVED. And she was excited. Yes.
Oichi was in the front of the room and could hear every word the professor said despite her extreme aging problem. She chuckled a bit hearing so many people ask the professor to speak up, she knew that was silly when she could just arrive early and get a front row seat which allowed her to hear and answer the first question and now she heard the second question. She had to think about it for a moment and took out her notes from previous years and soon found the answer and raised her hand. "Professor, the element we need more of to make a mini sun in a jar is hydrogen because that is 90% of the sun and we make the powdered hydrogen into gas by reciting the incantation, Fingere Elementi".

Cool they were going to make their own solar system.. and their going to work on making a sun… more cool.. Bay listened to everyone who was answering the Professors questions.. Bay how ever didn't know this answer and he grabbed some parchment and a quill and wrote down some notes for later.
Ultimately they wouldn't be restricted? So cool. Ana was so distracted by thinking up what her solar system was going to look like that she didn't really take in the Professors question at first. By the time it registered people were already answering that you'd need more Hydrogen, so there was no point saying it again. As for the other thing, well she didn't know of any spells that could be used. She'd never learnt them in Astronomy before but she was excited nonetheless. As long as she got to construct her own little solar system she didn't much mind not knowing the answer to one question. Therefore she just sat at her desk quietly, writing down a few things other people were saying and roughly sketching out her plans for planets.

So they were literally going to hold the entire world in the palms of their hands?! POWER. Sophie could just FEEL the power coming from that statement! She was all about some power. She cupped her hand to her ear once again as the professor began to explain the procedure.
"Powered substance?" she asked, raising her hand. Had he said they needed a powered substance. "I think you meant POWDERED substance!" Is that what he'd said?

Since his classmates seemed to have the answering of questions bit down, Mo focused on those little jars the Professor had given to them. He recognized the Helium and the Hydrogen, and it took everything in him not to give the jars a shake. Because that was what one did with a jar. One shook it.
But the other jar, the one that said 'Fe'... they didn't use that for the sun, did they? Mo bent over and peeeeeeeeeeered at the jar, and then creekily stood back up again. Ouch. Ouch, his back, ouch ouch. "Professor, are we putting any iron in the sun? What's that for?"
Her focus turned to the Hufflepuff again. Mumbling, oh Merlin why did she have to be mumbling??? Lex leaned in super close with a hand cupped to her ear. "Could you repeat that? What about killing me?" Wait what???
Sweet Circe, when had Astronomy class become so violent? .__.
"....You don't have to make threats. I'm just having a hard time with names at the moment. You can forget it. I'll just...remember later or something. I dunno. Sorry to bother you." Just a name, that's all she wanted. Sheeesh, the girl must have been in a bad mood. Well she should have said something, Lex wasn't a mind reader afterall.
The Prefect turned her attention to the Professor again---OOoOOooOooOooo
So THAT'S what's in the box. Her eyes widened in fascination. This...this was amazing right here.
O__O !
WHAT!? This is the second time this term she's heard something similar!! Gasp! "Did Marcus Branxton put you up to this?" she asked, eyes entirely on her best friend while she suddenly blamed Branxton for this. Lex has been hanging out a lot with him lately, so it was rather easy to point fingers. You know, the Gryffindor could hang out with Aidan all she wanted, but Marcus Branxton? No. Branxton is actually smart, so he was definitely a threat. Maybe even smarter than her, a bit, so yes, he was a threat.
Except... who was this Miss Constantinople the Professor kept mentioning?? It was kind of annoying, because Lottie was clearly not paying attention but that name kept coming up. Seriously?
"It wasn't a threat," really, no, what even?? "The name's Lotus, by the way," now she could focus back on Astronomy (if she was ever focusing to begin with). No, Airey, no killing. Got it. Though, murdering of stars and/or solar systems wasn't out of the question, right?
OH MERLIN THAT WAS SO WICKED!
She wasn't particularly thrilled about making a sun. FOR REASONS. For reasons. Mmmhmm. But their own solar system? That was exciting, yes! Hand up, "Hydrogen, of course," OF COURSE. Of course they'll also need iron, Marcus Branxton. About those spells....? Alec had already sort of mentioned it, yes? "Yes, Fingere Elementi, and a jab," but then Alice mentioned something else that got Lottie curious, "Dextrini Potitus will be used as well? To control the temperature?" Well, this is the sun, and there was the iron addition, so who knew if the spells were to remain the same.

"We will be following the same process today as we start off with creating your Sun. Stars are mainly comprised of hydrogen and helium, which is what you older students used powdered elements in essentially equal proportions of these two during our star project a few terms back. But today we are not just making a star, we are going to try and replicate the Sun. To do this, we are going to need to use more of what powdered element? Also, can any of you older students tell me the incantation and wand movement to use to make these powdered elements turned into a gas and thus make them fuse together to create a star?”
What powdered element that can replicate the sun? Well, it has to be highly flammable for it to burn, right? Andrew eyed the three containers labelled ‘H, He, Fe’ on his table. Hydrogen and Helium were given already. So the answer was quite obvious.
Though for question three…Andrew is clueless.
Welp, to answer question two then.
Hand up.
“Ferrum, professor.” That's the small jar with the 'Fe' label. Ehm…somehow that sounded a bit...technical. “...commonly known as Iron.” There. Easier for the kiddies to understand.

That...that was so pretty. Beverly's eyes glinted with interest at the tiny solar system hovering over the professor's hand. It was...wow. She couldn't quite see all the little planets because of bad sight, but she could see it enough to marvel.
She wanted one. At the same time she thought that, professor Airey said they WERE going to construct their own. It was exciting, wasn't it? She wasn't sure. In normal circumstances she'd be beyond excited about something like this, but now... she just wanted her fluffy slippers. Her feet still ached from walking up so many stairs. And the goggles were squishing her head. And the lab coat was uncomfortable. Wiggle, wiggle.
After jotting down a few notes she glanced back up at the professor. She massaged her wrist while listening. Ohhh. So they've made a star. She would have to ask her brother if he was here during that time. Or maybe her stupid cousin. Nah. The redhead was too stupid. Yeah. Never mind.
Picking up her quill again, Beverly prepared to take notes. She had no idea what spell he was asking for, being a new student and all. Booo!

From what he remembered reading, the elements required for a sun to be formed was helium and hydrogen. Which was required more? Now that was an interesting question.
He decided to hazard a guess. Raising his hand, he gave his answer, "Professor I believe that we would need to use Hydrogen more. I mean we do also need helium but the sun is constantly fusing hydrogen into helium, so we would need more hydrogen in order to keep the balance."
Airey's eyes, unfortunately, had drifted from the faces of his students to the mini solar system in his hands. Short attention span was only made worst by having cruddy short term memory, you know? So he missed the first half of the seventh year's answer, but the bits and pieces he did hear sounded about right so....
"Yes, very good," he nodded towards Mr. Strand.

"I didn't know elephants had magical properties, Professor," he said seriously. "And I'd think there would be far easier ways to make a gas than to powder them, and then apply a spell." Right now, it smelt like something had quite successfully made gas of it's own accord for them. "Fire seems like a plan though, for a sun."
Was he sure? Sure about what? And why was the Ravenclaw talking about elephants? Leave it to a Ravenclaw to ask something insanely....quirky? Was that even quirky? Airey settled for just squinting at the boy to try and make out his face to see if he was being serious or not with his question.
What did oliphaunts have to do with the topic at hand? Even if the man was impressed that the boy knew of Tolkien's works.
"Well...they DO say that they are as as fabulous and fearsome as dragons..."

Oh, good question. "You hopefully will not need to use other spells for this since we will be starting with more scoops of hydrogen. However, if you notice that the glow from your Sun is beginning to take on a redish glow, which is meant to simulate the red giant phase of the Sun's stellar evolution, you will need to make the correct adjustments."

"EEEH? What was that, son?" he asked Mr. Branxton as he leeeeeeaned forward a bit to try and catch the latter part of what the captain was saying. Was he asking the professor to iron his school uniform? Merlin he wished students would stay on topic today.
Oh, wait, no. Mr. Branxton was looking at the iron container on his station. "A VERY good question Mr. Branxton, and something that caused quite the debate at the turn of the century. There was a theory called the 'Iron Sun' in which it was proposed that the Sun's surface is actually iron. While there IS a small amount of iron in the Sun, because the Sun was made from a gas cloud which must have been enriched by the iron and other elements thanks to other stars. When the Sun runs out of hydrogen it will start fusing heavier and heavier elements together. Stars heavier than the Sun will continue this process until they make iron. Iron is the last element which when fused releases energy, heavier elements take an input of energy to fuse, so once a star has made iron there is no more energy available from nuclear fusion and it will die," he explained as he bobbed his head back and forth to a song that apparently only he could hear. "While no harm should come from you adding a bit of a sprinkle of iron with the other two elements, it is not required. We will be using the iron for when we create a planet."

"Of course," he chuckled towards Miss Wisteria. And because he couldn't really salute he did a wink instead. "As I said to Miss Fischer, I hope you will not be required such intensive care with your Sun as some of you had to do with your stars. But one can't really predict precisely how the reaction will, well, react. So yes, perhaps you will need to use that spell."
Which is why he turned around to write it down on the board as well.
He ventured a glance towards Miss Cambridge and recalled the struggle she had had with her star - namely the fact that she had killed it. What had it's name been again? Joffery?

Picking up her quill again, Beverly prepared to take notes. She had no idea what spell he was asking for, being a new student and all. Booo!
Smiling at Miss Wayne briefly, he squuuuuuuuuinted around the classroom again to see if there were any more hands raised. Didn't seem like there were - not that he could see at least - so it was time to move on! TO ALL THE FUN STUFF!
"As several of you said, we will need to use more hydrogen when creating our versions of the Sun. The Sun burns several hundred million tons of hydrogen gas per second, so we will be using one scoop of helium and 5 scoops of hydrogen to help simulate this nuclear reaction." Key word being simulate, okay?
"So, without wasting more time on discussion and lecture, everyone put your goggles on and make sure your lab coats are buttoned," he instructed as he made sure that he was properly suited up. *
*obviously looking MUCH older than the lovely Dr. Horrible
"Now, using the measuring spoons at your station, scoop 1 scoop of helium and 5 scoops of hydrogen into your glass box. If you want to experiment a bit and use a pinch of iron you may, but it is not required," he continued as he did so with his own glass box, setting his solar system down on the table beside him. Oh, LOOK AT THAT! If his wand had been a basilisk he would have been dead by now. Had been there on his desk the entire time. HAHA. Funny. "The spell you will all need to perform is Fingere Elementi, and the wand movement is just a simple jab movement. If you have performed things correctly, and don't be discouraged if nothing happens on your first try, this spell will convert your powdered hydrogen and helium into gases and in doing so instantly trigger the elements to compress on their own and form your Sun that just floats there in your glass box. The color should be a brilliant white with perhaps a hint of yellow or orange. No need to close the lid during any of this."
He then turned and gave the blackboard a tap to draw attention to the other spells that MAY be needed to use, but were hopefully not going to be necessary.

Clearing his throat, the professor pointed his wand at the mix of powdered elements in his glass box. "Fingere Elementi," he commanded as he gave a firm jab with his wand. Instantly the powder turned into a gas and in a flash of light that was bright enough to hide the box's form for a brief moment before slowly fading and shrinking until it was about the size of an apricot. TADA! Easy as that. "When you are ready you may begin."

Sander immediately sat up when Professor Flamsteed first replied to their answers and then told everyone they could start making their own sun. "Here comes the sun, here comes the sun, and I say it's all right, sun, sun, sun, here it comes." Sander began softly singing to himself as he donned his goggles and made sure that his lab coat was buttoned on properly.
He then picked up his quill and copied down the spells and wand movements required for the exercise.
Text Cut: Sander's Journal
Spells for making my Sun 1. Spell to cause phase shift (solid, liquid, gas) incantation: Fingere Elementi wand movement: jab
2. Spell to control temperature incantation: Dextrini Potitus wand movement: jab with a flick upwards to increase and flick downward to decrease
3. Spell to increase helium incantation: Cumugasalis wand movement: two flicks
4. Spell to decrease helium incantation: Deminugasalis wand movement: two flicks
5. Spell to increase hydrogen incantation: Crescere Hydrogenenii wand movement: tight circle drawn in the air followed by a jab. Circle movement on the Crescere and jab on Hydrogenenii
Sander decided that before he started actually adding the powdered substances into his glass container, that he would first practice saying the spell incantation. So he turned to his journal and first practiced saying the spell that would cause the phase shift.
Laura listened to the Professor and smiled, this was going to be awesome, they had to do something with plans but what they needed their wands. Laura fished around for it she normally kept it in a save place but today she just couldn't find it. "Wand!! come out come out where ever you are." Laura continued to fish for it, she couldn't see it anyway. "Professor, I seem to have misplaced my wand." Laura thought this was probably the best time to tell the Professor since well maybe he could find it for her.

Adi listened to what Flamsteed was saying. They were going to make the Sun! Awesome! He made noted on the amounts of helium and hydrogen they were supposed to use as well as the spells and their wand movements.
He grinned over at Benny as he buttoned up his lab coat. "Ready to get started?'' he asked excitedly and reached over for the goggles which he quickly snapped on. Using the measuring spoon, Adi placed one scoop of helium and five scoops of hydrogen into his glass box.
Okay. Now he needed to do the spell. Some practice with the incantation first since it was unfamiliar to him, yeah? ''Fingere Elementi...Fingere Elementi...Fingere Elementi...'' As he was doing this the second year was hunting for his wand. It wasn't in his holster. AHHH! Where did his wand go? He wasn't about to panic. No, no, no he wasn't.

Tessa quickly wrote down the instructions as the Professor spoke. After all, with her memory as unreliable as it had been recently, she wanted to make sure she would get everything correct. She squinted up at the board, and double checked her notes, giving a nod when she was sure everything was correct. Now, to practice the spell first.
"Fingere Elementi" she muttered to herself. It still didn't feel right on her tongue, so she tried it a few more times- repeating the words over and over... "Fingere Elementi.... Fingere Elementi..." Okay, that felt better. Now, a jabbing with her wand. Jab jab jab... she giggled at the sight. It looked like she was threatening to poke someone with her wand.
Okay, back to seriousness. MAKING A SUN! She grinned and went to the ingredients. "Okay, one..." She paused, not sure which ingredient only had one part. It began with an H... but as she looked down, she saw that didn't narrow the field at all. She sighed, and looked down at her notes. "One part helium... helium..." she repeated the word so she wouldn't forget and gently scooped the material and poured it into the box. "Four parts... No," she looked down at her notes. "Five parts hydrogen. Hydrogen, where are you?" she murmured, looking around the materials. Finding it, she slowly and carefully put five scoops of the element into the box.
She sat back, waiting for the elements to react... and started to panic when they didn't. She scooted closer, as if somehow her proximity would help start the chain reaction. Still nothing. Beginning to panic, she scrambled for her notes, quickly reading over them. Oh, a spell would help.
"Fingere Elementi!" she cast, with a jab of her wand. The powder swirled up as if caught in a tornado before transferring into its gaseous state. Unsure of what the reaction may hold, she moved back away from the work station, covering her eyes slightly as the light increased to almost blinding. She ducked down, still unsure when there was a cute little pop! Straightening, she saw a sun now hovering in the glass box.
"Hello sunny!" she said, peering closer at the little star.
Cutty couldn't WAIT to play God. They were making their solar systems of their very OWN. His old man chest began wheezing because he was trying to breath in too much too quickly. And if they could do this, who was to say they couldn't also make small people to serve your every whim?!
LEGIONS, EVEN!!!
Cutty was feeling inspired. He loved Astronomy and he loved his competent Professor Airey Flamsteed. Where had he been all his life? He got a good look at the examples Professor Flamsteed provided and the shiny, shiny blast of luminescence provided by the made-before-their-very-eyes apricot sun.
Game time. Goggles on. Cutty adjusted his beard trying to make certain that it covered the name on his labcoat. He'd caught an older Slyth glance at it toward the beginning of class. He didn't see his name on it, did he? Cutty hurried to gather the 5 scoops of hydrogen and one scoop of helium. With a sloow, but definitely manifested eagerness, Cutty added them to the glass box and took out his wand. With a jabbing motion he spoke the incantation, "Fingere Elementi!". But maybe he didn't jab at it hard enough. "Fingere Elementi!" JAB! A silent and fair sized flash followed and must to his delight, Cutty had a wee sun.

They were making their own sun, how cool was that?! Plenty. She approved of the idea in case anyone was curious to know. Cassia gave her ok of the whole thing. Though she might have been just staring at the professor who had really grown old FAST!
Staring aside, she had a sun to make.
The sixth-year went and retrieved the ingredients then slid the goggles over her eyes. All set, she needed to be careful and precise. Glancing to her notes which she took while Flamsteed spoke, she made sure of the quantity that was required then turned back to the hydrogen. Five scoops of Hydrogen. Added. Then one scoop of helium. Also, added.
Pulling out her wand, the snake muttered the incantation under her breath plus made with a jab of her wand. You know, practicing, wouldn't hurt even if it seemed like an easy task. Back to her glass box.
"Fingere Elementi," She uttered clearly and slowly not forgetting the jab. Now she probably had to wait in order to see the effects? Oooh, not for long apparently! The blond squinted and watched the glass box. An accomplished smile played on her lips as a tiny sun formed there. Pretty!

They got to make a sun? That was so cool. Though Grace was helping that she could do the spell. Because she wanted to be really cool and have her own funky solar system. Before she began Grace put her goggles on, and made sure that her lab coat was covering her. Because she didn't want to get her uniform all burnt or anything.
And now to begin. She was excited. Although her arm was already aching. She hoped that there would not be too much wand waving. Before she got the helium and stuff she needed to figured that she would just practice the spell first. "Fingere Elementi" She murmured quietly, before repeating it a couple of times. It didn't sound too bad. Then she did the incantation too. Oooh. This wasn't too bad. She spent the next few minutes making sure she could do the spell.

Finally moving on. Nigel looked down at his half filled parchment full of puns. Big text does make it easier to fill a piece of parchment. So now time to make planets. Tough Nigel thought destroying them sounded more fun. Be like a real life version of Galactus.
Instead of eating just destroying. The spell was Fingere Elementi. Got it. Time to Suit Up. Which is just fun to say. Goggle On and lab coat is of course on. It is has his name on it.
Ooo they could experiment. Now that sounded very interesting. First things First. Nigel scooped 1 scoop of helium and 5 scoops of hydrogen into his glass box. Next he added a wee little bit more of the iron than he should. Okay a lot more. He wanted to see what will happened. It will be awesome regardless.
Okay time for the spell. Nigel jabbed and cast
"Fingere Elementi".
Merlin's Saggy Left Earlobe that explosion was awesome. Was nothing extreme. But cool. Well back to the serious part of making a sun. Repeating the scoops and putting in a tiny pinch of iron. All set. Nigel jabbed again and said. "Fingere Elementi"
See look at that tiny sun.

Thinking that perhaps now he could relax into a sit and let his knees and back take a breather in the comfort of a chair, the astronomer was severely disappointed when a student was already approaching him with a problem. A wand problem.
"Miss Hyde, how do you expect to participate in the lesson without your wand?" he asked while tapping the floor with his cane out of annoyance. It HAD said on his lesson announcement specifically to bring your wand with you.

"Yes, very good," he nodded towards Mr. Strand.
Maybe he should put his toy away.
Resisting the urge to burst out into a spirited rendition of Goodness Gracious GREAT BALLS OF FIREOF FIRE, the astronomer instead gave his cane an excited wiggle while he nodded his head. "Yes, the SUN, but there will be NO casting of Incendio or any other heat producing spells. But not to worry, you'll still get a proper 'explosion' of sorts today." Especially if they were to get the spell wrong on their first and second attempts.
But that is what the goggles were for.
"YES, thank you Mr. Summers," Airey said as he fumbled with the chalk to write the name of the spell on the board.
Good to see that Mr. Kinsley was still taking diligent notes. Airey gave him a small nod in approval.
He gave the Hufflepuff a small nod too. While he wasn't taking notes, at least he appeared to be an attentive listener.
What good role models Mr. Kinsley and Mr. Barrington were being! Taking notes like that. More students should take a page from their books and do the same.
Oooh, that WAS some creative thinking. Pity that it was entirely incorrect though. "Nothing quite so fancy, I'm afraid. Just a simple jab with your wand will do."
Now if he could just find HIS wand so he could demonstrate...
And here was Miss Starr being a star student and taking notes as well. Good to see. Or not see since he could hardly see two feet past the end of his nose.
"While we WILL require helium for this, we don't need to increase the amount for this project," he replied to the Ravenclaw. "Your suns will convert more than enough of it on their own.
Leaning against the blackboard, he gave the second year a quick salute. She would be fine once she got over her confidence issues, he was sure of it. So, no pressure on you, Miss Ella. Noooooo pressure at all.
"Very good, Miss Ella," he nodded towards the Head Girl. "Approximately 72% of gases that compose the sun are hydrogen."
90%? Sweet solstice that was a bit generous. "72%," he corrected the Gryffindor gently. "But yes, we will need more hydrogen for this experiment."
Stellar! More note taking. Airey squinted a bit as he gave Mr. Bay an approving nod.
Oh, someone was furiously taking notes. Even better than just taking notes. Or something.
Look how pretty his solar system was!
Wince. OUCH.
"Miss Newell, there is NO need to shout in my classroom. Indoor voices."
And now that he felt even deafer than before, it would be a miracle if he could hear any other questions students had.
"If you have a stuffy nose you may grab some tissues, Miss McAlistor," he said as he made a face at the Hufflepuff.
Joffery?
Airey chuckled. "Not a requirement for now," he said with a quick shake of the head.
The Sun burns several hundred million tons of hydrogen gas per second, so we will be using one scoop of helium and 5 scoops of hydrogen to help simulate this nuclear reaction." Talk of elephants got Ella smiling though she wasn't sure why they were discussing the magnificent animal in Astronomy. Perhaps there was an elephant constellation she wasn't aware of? That'd be brilliant. Just...yeah. No time to think about that now, though. She had a sun to start. She also needed to move over to an empty seat by that girl who needed help, yeah? Better do that right now.
Pulling on her goggles carefully and then gathering her things, the eighteen year old very slowly made her way over to the younger badger and took an empty seat nearby. "Hey, I'm Ella. I can help with whatever you need, okay?" Well, hopefully. They could always ask Airey if it was something Ella couldn't handle.
After organizing her notes at her new work space, the eighteen year old eyed the first couple of steps. "Okay, measuring spoons first. Probably a good idea to clean them first just in case." She talked quietly, glancing over at the younger girl. She wasn't sure if she needed any help just yet but it couldn't hurt to talk her through things. "Scourgify." Then it was time for some scooping. "1 scoop Helium." She needed to make sure she was scooping the right element so she triple checked before actually adding it into her glass box. "5 scoops of Hydrogen." That was added carefully into the glass box as well. 1 scoop...2 scoops...3...4...5. And she was going to add the dash of Iron in there as well but that was a personal choice, mhm.
Laura looked at the Professor, "Professor why would I need a Well to participate in this lesson?" Laura was confused now why was the Professor talking about wells when this was Astronomy. The Professor was confusing her now. "I didn't think I'd need to bring a well as for my wand I put it in my bag but I can't seem to find it." She was misplacing lots of things these days.
