The sun has long since been down and if it weren't for the Heating Charms placed on the Astronomy classroom it would be quite chilly. The desks are arranged in their usual semi circle to help created a more personal environment. Professor Flamsteed's desk is positioned in the “front” of the classroom and is entirely empty save for a small black box located EXACTLY in the middle of the desk. The suited astronomer can be seen squatting to the side of his desk talking to the large fish tank he has been spotted with all around the castle ever since the opening feast.
So come on in and find your seat. Oh, and don’t forget to use the lint roller on the small table outside of the classroom next to the sign that reads, "Not to be used as a brush for your hair."
This lesson has officially started! Please do not announce your character arriving late and just pretend like they have been in class all along. You are free to jump in any time and should use the lesson progression links to keep up.
don't have time for long post but sarah wanted to be part of the action
Gryffinclaw-Ravendor • The REAL Hermione Granger
Sarah listened intently... and beamed when she got a point. She had little tricks to remember a lot of things. Like acronyms, pneumonics, songs and rhymes. The best part was sharing it with others, although often people thought she was strange due to the way her mind worked. She nodded at the point about the time... More facts....
Then the professor starting thinking.. and then Sarah hurt that pop. The sound and the look of her beloved professor sent an andreniline hike in her direction. But she was not the type to get hysterical.
She leaped out of her seat and sprinted to wards the professor. She could use a few spells herself.. but she won't. It was better to leave that to some one capable, like the healer. She would have run to the healer herself if she were fast enough. "Someone call the healer.. quick and fast" she said. It was a bit far to the hospital wing so.. "And can somone else please go get the nearest staff member? They can send a patronus and thus get the healer quicker. "
Was she frightening the young ones? Sarah did not want to do that, "Don't worry, everything will be okay" She said in a calm voice. It always turns out for best, and worrying and stressing won't make it better.

Ian listened to the answers and was quite pleased to learn a little more. Of course the response was phrased in a mild rebuke, but that was ok. Perhaps Ian would need to work a little harder to get things down better for this class. As he was furiously scribbling notes, Ian glanced up and noticed the professor was bent over and quietly mouthing something that he couldn't make out (since his hearing seemed to be getting worse). He saw one of the other huffies get up and rush over to the professor. Maybe it was another demonstration of the early part of the universe, though Ian couldn't quite figure out what it might be. Ian, being a second year, didn't want to get in the way so he waited for other, older students to go up there.
Ana was taking meticulous notes and at first didn't even register that Professor Airey had stopped talking. The plea for a healer though got her attention and she shot up from her desk as if someone was pulling strings. She started to take a step towards the door when she realised that she didn't actually know where the Hospital Wing was... Casting her eyes around the room she hoped that someone who did know would go get a healer ASAP.
When her gaze finally moved back to the front she saw that an older Hufflepuff boy was attempting to help Flamsteed. However, even he looked slightly lost and so Ana decided, that as she couldn't be a help by getting the Healer she'd attempt to be helpful in a more direct manner, walking over to the Professor and the other student.
"Professor Airey where exactly does it hurt?" Ana asked, laying a careful hand on the man's arm as she spoke his name, before removing it a couple of seconds later. "Also, does anyone have something we'd be able to turn into a makeshift heat pack?" Ana asked, looking at the classroom at large. It would help until the healer could get to them if someone did. Ana continued to eye Professor Airey as she waited for an answer before turning to look at the boy on the other side of Flamsteed.
"I think we need to get him into a seated position, or we need to lay him down on something. Being vertical would probably be better for him. It'll likely hurt quite a bit though and we'll need to be careful so as not to cause further damage," Ana informed the boy. He seemed like he'd do his bit to be helpful if someone else took charge and told him what to do. It just so happened that Ana would be that person.

The professor froze in his hunched over position with his face frozen in a state of complete and utter pain. He hadn't even been able to utter any cry of pain as the shook and just how suddenly it had paralyzed his moments took the breath right out of him. He could hardly speak and moment of any sort was entirely out of the question. Worst of all, at least to him at that specific point in time, was the way that his wand was taunting him there. On the ground. Just out of his hands' reach.
"Someone....Healer..." he managed to gasp between electrifying jolts of pain up and down his spine.
Astrid was GRINNING. She got it right! Yay! Even if the name for the HUDF was so 'eh', Professor Flamsteed made it feel like it was no big deal to read it slow. Well, after all, it was somehow complicated. Just a bunch of letters and WHOA-MERLIN-LOTSA numbers. Honestly, Astrid never understood why they named them those stuff. Couldn't they just name it an awesome name like 'Astrid' or something? And yes, her name was awesome. It should be a name for a star or a planet or a comet soon. Mhm. Just a suggestion that needs to happen for real, one day.
Anyway, she was listening to Professor Flamsteed as he explained about galaxies while she was taking down lots of notes when......
O________________________O
Oh my goodness. Merlin. What was that sound? Cracking? Popping? That was so not normal, you know? That never happened when Astrid bent down. Or something? NO SHUT UP THAT NEVER HAPPENED WHEN SHE BENT. Astrid was mentally freaking out right now. "Professor? Are you okay?" STARE. She was so staring. And yeah, totally nervous and scared. Astrid bent down and tried to help her Professor up. "Let me help you up, Professor."
.................................................. .. WIBBLE. Not funny. AND HEALER, HELLO? SOMEONE CAPABLE OF PATRONUS-ING, PLEASE?

Okay, so somehow I managed to read about the wrong telescope but this one is pretty cool too. It is light years away which makes more sense about how it helps astronomers see glimpses of another galaxy. So we sent a satellite telescope deep into space years ago and that's the Hubble Extra Deep field telescope, cool!. Oichi then heard the professor continue on in the lesson talking about the difference in luminosities and what we can see. But then out of blue just as the professor bent down his back cracked and it sounded bad. Just a moment later he muttering healer. Oh my gosh, is he gonna be okay. Who is gonna go for the healer. Well I'm a 7th year I certainly could but let's see how many people leave to get the Healer first.
Yeah I broke that mirror, so what? ll NOT backward ll Official Gryfferin ll Lemon's favourite
Lex watched the manner in which the Professor walked by her, like he was stepping on fine glass or something and she eyed him as he went along. His grumpiness earlier had only added to hers. Never knew blewing up a fish could cause such a stir, the not knowing answers afterwards didn't help either. The Gryffindor Prefect scribbled down what she could from the others.
It wasn't that she was fully engrossed in her note taking and wasn't paying attention, it was more that she was forcing herself to take notes and pay no attention. See? There was a difference. Now imagine her shock when she heard what sounded like a faint crack from where she sat.
Lex looked over and found the Professor in what looked like a serious about off pain....there one the ground...asking for a healer....BlinkBlinkBlink.
Was no one going to do something? "Professor, can you shoot a patronus out? If not, can some capable seventh year go ahead?" Healer was needed, no time to waste, chop chop people. Running there wouldn't be nearly as fast. They were still sitting around?........

Adi grinned at Sophie, feeling pleased with himself. These sciency terms were not going to get the best of him. No, Sir! But his grin did fade a bit as Professor Airey asked about the YD3. "Erm...'' Adi began as he quickly consulted his book again.
He was about to answer the man who was addressing another student when...What was that cracking and popping??? Adi's head jerked up from his book only to find Professor Airey bent over and he seemed to be in pain. "Professor!'' Oh,no! What was happening?! Was that him Cracking and popping?
Healer! He needed the Healer! Where was the Healer?! Someone get the woman!Second year panicking here!

Caleb couldn't believe what was happening. Flamsteed was like, young and cool, so why had his back just gone all crazy and turned against him?! And NO ONE was going to get the healer! Caleb knew he could get there faster than any patronus could. He was young and agile, so he was obviously the best man for this job.
Why was no one MOVING?
"I'm going to get the Healer!" he announced before jumping up and running out of the room.

Alec's complexion paled considerably. What... WHAT had just HAPPENED?! His mouth hung open a little, his eyes widening at the sight in front of him. "Professor?!" That crack and pop hadn't sounded great. More-so the fact that the man was gasping something that Alec couldn't really pick up from where he was sitting. Nothing more than the word 'Healer'.
It was a couple of seconds or more before Alec realised what he had to do, thanks to a certain Gryffindor. Alec stood up and was about to reiterate what Sarah had said when... a Slytherin decided to head off. "Thank you!" he called after the boy. Thankfully somebody had listened to Sarah.
... And... there were people crowding him. Frowning a little, he got up and headed over towards there. "I need EVERYBODY to get back to their seats and STAY there. Give the man some space, the Healer should be coming soon. And... stay calm, he'll be okay." ... Maybe he shouldn't... be shouting. "We don't know what's wrong with him so... so I don't think we should move him." he said to the rest of the group near the man. "We, erm, we could end up making things worse."
... Breatheeeeee...
"Professor? Somebody's gone to get the Healer. All I need you to do is breathe and try to stay as calm as possible, yeah?"
... This was... not a great turn of events.

If there was one thing about Astronomy, it was that there was so much information that your notes took over so much parchment. He was scribbling away, keeping up with the professors words as he bullet pointed all of the necessary information. That was until he heard a rather disgusting albeit slightly worrying sound.
His head turned to look at the Professor, his eyes widening as he saw him splayed out on the floor asking for the Healer. Oh dear Merlin! What was going on?! He blinked around, looking for a seventh year that would be capable of producing a Patronus. He could try but it wasn't guaranteed that it would be successful. He was about to volunteer to run, that he could do well but a second year had already sprinted out the classroom. Eh, he was younger, he would probably get there faster.
"She's right" Terry spoke, standing up to move next to Ana. "He'd be much more comfortable lying flat although there is the risk of making things much worse." Whether the students should take that risk or wait until the Healer arrived. Depended on how fast he could run and also how quickly Tillstorm would be able to get to the classroom. Slightly worrying considering how high up the Astronomy tower was. "I think its best that we wait for her expertise though." He really didn't want to be held responsibility for any further damage.
He nodded in agreement with Alec as he demanded everyone to step back. He nudged his arm a little. "See? Getting your authority on now" he spoke remembering the conversation they had at the Beech tree.
He probably should have looked in the textbook. But what is interesting about that.At least he was not questioning his ridiculous answer to the surfboard question. Though he thought he was right since HUDF.YD3 is in a reionization epoch. Which means galaxies and stars get formed. So Yeah. But what did Nigel know. Now it was sounding like a beginning of a scfi movie.....and What?
Now what was happening. Did he throw out his back or break something. Seems like he can't even move to get his wand. Nigel did think Lex's idea was good and looked around before he was going to volunteer. But seemed like someone was already running out the door to get a healer. So with everything settled, The Prefect just leaned back and somehow cracked his back in his chair and watched to see what will happen.

Delilah stood up and stared at the poor professor. He looked in so much pain. Nooooo, what was wrong with him!? But thankfully, Alec took charge of the situation soon and someone went to get the healer. Okay. So, it was going to be fine. Things were kind of in control now and the professor would soon be healed and he'd start teaching again. Yes.
The blonde looked at Alec for a second before taking a deep breath, trying to NOT panic. She sat back down, anxiously looking at the professor.

Sander frowned at the girl who offered to move the Professor. He wanted to tell her that from experience, unless you knew what you were doing, you didn't move the person, especially one who just had a bone in his back move out of alignment. All one could do was help support the person to relieve the pressure on his back.
But before he could suggest anything, the Headboy started giving instructions. Sure he was the Headboy and was allowed to give instructions, but he too was looking like he was starting to panic himself. Then he saw the boy take control of himself and he calmly gave further instructions.
Giving one last glance at the Professor, he said,"Professor I hope you feel better soon. The healer is on her way." He then nodded to the Headboy before returning to his seat.
But before he did that he pointed his wand out, thought of Tessa and called out,"Expecto Patronum!". Immediately a glowing light streamed out from his wand and it soon formed a stag which immediately galloped out of the classroom.
"I've sent a message to the Headmistress." he told the Headboy. Now he could and sit down.

Oh no!
The poor Professor! Lux gasped as she saw him in pain, and was about to go and see if she could help him, when a boy ran off to get the Healer and Alec dealt with the situation. It was best she stay where she was. Biting her lip, she watched the door, hoping the Healer would be there very soon, because she did not like seeing anyone in pain, and she liked this Professor because he was funny and nice.
Oh my gosh, a little kid is going to get the healer. Really??? This just does not seem like its s good idea. Oichi jumped from her seat and raced after the younger student. She wanted to make sure things well and the professor got proper help.
Adrienne froze. "Merlin!"Did he just... oh god, was he okay? She stood up in an instant, unsure what to do as her mind went into overdrive. Should she try to help? Should she go get someone? People all around her were panicking and someone older than her - annoying Hufflepuff boy, she registered without thinking about it - was saying that they should all sit down and not do anything, but wasn't that the worst possibility? Shouldn't they be trying healing spells or... or... well, actually, she couldn't think of anything better to do. Slowly, she sank into her seat and took a deep breath, straining to see what was going on up there. Was anyone touching him? They probably shouldn't....

Well, it's all fun and games until someone gets hurt.
...and now someone had gone and gotten themselves hurt. Everybody was freaking out, but really, wasn't this just a case of forty-year-old-itis? So the guy had bent down and put his back out of order...didn't people do that all the time? Nevertheless, Sophie felt bad for him.
It was Big Bang one minute then Back Bang the next.
Sophie glanced up as Caleb ran from the room. "Caleb, you can send a---..." Patronus? Owl message? Whatever happened to the easy way of doing things? Oh, well. He'd bolted out the door by that point.
"Sir?" Sophie asked leaning over and trying to meet him eye to eye. "Can I get you anything? A chair? A bean bag? ... A box of Wheaties, perhaps?"
Still flashing LOOKS at the Head Girl, he turned his gaze on the Ravenclaw as she spoke. "Yes, I suppose it is." Sorry kid, he was grumpy over his favorite droid being insulted.
Even if any sane person would agree that robots and droids were the same.

"Someone....Healer..." he managed to gasp between electrifying jolts of pain up and down his spine.
Emma had just been recovering from a bruised ego due to being brushed off by the professor when suddenly she looked up and it was like MAN OVERBOARD.
O_______o
"Erm..." She mumbled, biting her thumbnail nervously. Emma was really not the type to know what to do in these types of situations; so she decided the best thing to do would be to remain in her seat and attempt to remain calm during the chaos. Yup. That's what she was going to do. People that were good at these sort of crises had already responded so she'd have only been in the way anyway...
Ana bit her lip nervously but nodded at Terry's, and some other boys words. They were likely right about not moving him, it mainly depended on what he'd actually done to his back though. She was relieved however to see that two people had run for the Healer and that the other boy had sent a Patronus to the Headmistress before sitting back down.
For herself though Ana wasn't going to obey the Headboy's orders. Although she had removed her hand from his arm almost as quickly as she'd placed it there and although his words made sense, in that they didn't want to crowd Professor Airey, Ana didn't think they should all move too far away. Just in case. "I still think a makeshift heat pack would be useful though. I mean, even if it turns out not to help all that much it wouldn't do him any harm, right?" Ana queried, eyes flitting to the Head Boy before landing back on Terry. Mainly because she felt more confident talking to him than the other boy, before turning back to the Professor.
"You aren't going to threaten me with detention for 'excessive amounts of inappropriate public displays of affection' again are you Sir?" Ana asked jokingly, in a bid to take Flamsteed's mind off his back, if she could, and also because she'd just remembered what happened last time she'd been this close to the man.

Well, okay. Except that the professor was most definitely not okay, if what happened a few questions later was any indication. Layla had let the last few questions go by with her just taking notes, because honestly, she'd gotten confused once people started going on about inflation. Wasn't that an economic term? About the value of money or something like that?
And then the professor threw his back out. Er.....yeah, she had no idea what to do in situations like this. So, her response was a quick cringe face and then to start looking around for any youngsters that needed reassurance that the professor would be okay. Everyone good?

Kace was listening intently and taking notes on the previous questions and then he heard a cracking sound. He jerked his head up and he looked up. The professor looked like he was in pain. That cracking sound sounded painful even from here. Kace got up and went up to the front and stood there frozen. "Errmmm professor the healer is on its way.." he said reassuring the professor. "Just stay calm and not try to move so much."
He remembered when he pulled muscles in sports games it was better to stay in the position you were in till the medical person came.

YAY! She'd given a good answer! Ves did a small happy dance in her seat and finished the outer lines of her drawing...before removing it from her notebook and setting it off to the side, near the corner of her desk. The professor had wanted it, right? Did he still want it?
.........
Just moments later, there was a terrible cracking sound, causing the Ravenclaw to immediately search out the noise. When she found the cause, there was Professor Flamsteed...hunched over, seemingly not able to move. Had he been reaching for something?...Oh, yes. There was his wand...just on the floor in front of him. Had he sprained something in his back? Her grandfather had problems with his back, too...
Not...that....Professor Flamsteed....was that old...

What was going on? The professor was hurt, kids were everywhere, Alec was shouting and nobody was DOING ANYTHING! Gwen shoved back her seat and was up and running the minute this all processed in her head. Healer. She was running for the Healer. "I'll go," she volunteered, already out the door.
Tobias was sat in his seat, blinking at the Professor. He knew what had happened; living with his grandparents had gotten the boy used to things like their joints locking up. He didn't know how they got around it though, and would obviously be of no help here. Plus, there was plenty of other people helping, and someone had already gone for the healer, so Toby just sat quietly and avoided getting in any of the student leader-y type people's way. At least three people had already left, too, it seemed unnecessary for anyone else to go. Best thing to do was to sit and wait, seeing as he knew he'd be no help.

Getting his authority on. The corner of the boy's mouth twitched in an attempt to smile. "Looks like your talk really worked." Nodnod.
The Headmistress had been called? Alec... wasn't sure if that was needed but sure. Yeah. Maybe she'd be able to help somehow or stay with Flamsteed if the man needed to be kept in the Hospital Wing. "Thanks," Nod. And smiles were given to people who were sitting down because... hey, they had listened to him and they could probably use some good vibes in here, yeah?
Maybe they could all do something to make sure everyone's... okay afterwards. Hot chocolate? ... He didn't know.
... And... there were more people crowding him. That was the exact opposite of what he had asked everyone to do. Alec closed his eyes and took a deep breath before opening them again. "Okay, if you're NOT a medical professional and you're standing near the Professor, can you take FIVE LARGE steps AWAY from him. Or better yet, take a seat. ... Please. And don't touch his back, okay?"
As for the heat pack situation, the Head Boy furrowed his brows a little before turning towards the Slytherin. "I... I admire your willingness to help. Really. I think it's awesome. And... I like the idea of a heat pack but..." He glanced over at the man quickly. "... we don't know where exactly the pain is coming from. And... applying one might mean that we'd have to touch his back which... I don't think any of us should do." ... Pause. "If you can conjure one out of thin air, that'd be great." And impressive. There was no way he could do something like that.
... Gwen bolted out of the door too. For the Healer? Okay. Awesome.
