So she had passed her written portion. That was going to be the easy part. Now she had to actually show that she could apparate. First up was apparating from the front of the room to the back. Taking a deep calming breath, she slowly walked from her desk to to front of the great hall. She could do this.... It was just a simple apparition... something she had already done before.

Once at the front of the hall, Lily paused and stared at the spot across the hall she wanted to get to. Riiiiight over there. See? She could see the spot from here... It was just like apparating into the hoops during practice. 3-D's and focus. That's all she had to do. Focus on the spot, be in the spot, visualize everthing in the spot and not here. Then turn and pop! The squeezing sensation overcame Lily's body as she was suddenly transported and appeared again in the great hall. Slowly opening her eyes and holding her hands out for balance, she realized that she had managed to hit the spot she had wanted on the other side of the room. She'd done it even during the test!! Now if only she didn't get so nauseous after each apparition.

After deciding that landing at the edge of a hoop but still inside of it did indeed count as a successful attempt, Alice moved on to the next step. This was where she got to choose an obstacle, yes? A fifty food wide puddle was just distance- plus if she failed, the only punishment was a soggy set of robes. And the lava... they couldn't actually let children fall into pools of molten hot rock, right? Which meant it HAD to be fake.

That left the potholes as the most dangerous option. And danger was her favorite.

Keeping in mind that there was a very good chance she could fall into it and hurt herself, she backed a bit away from the obstacle in question. Now... where did she want to end up? Alice found a spot just past the pothole and tried to focus all her thoughts and energy on that one location, fingers tightening around her wand. Had to get there. Had to get there.

When she felt calm enough, the seventh year turned on the spot, anticipating the I'm-being-stuffed-into-a-tube-half-my-size feeling but not reacting badly to it. It faded more quickly then it had before, and only then she realized that there was light on her eyelids. Meaning she wasn't inside a dark hole in the ground, also meaning... yes! She was over it! She'd done it!

Alice did a little jump for joy and nearly fell into the pothole of her own accord, but managed to not. Adult who could apparate over here. Mhm.

boom boom boom success success success.

Not that she was finished. But there was success wiggling. She completely played it off as she was wiggling to make sure everything was still there, and/or to regain feeling in her limbs. Everything was there, and she did have all feeling. She was just happy. Wiggles. The next part was just making it to the hoops 20 feet away. Yeaaaaaaah she could do that. That was like a pin prick on the scale of *!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!* Or..maybe it wasn't. Maybe it was up there with the worst because she actually did feel a little bit sick still, and she had to actually get in a specific space now. Properly specific, and circled and she was going to have to make her entrance with total and utter poise and grace and most definitely not fall flat on her face.

Eyes closing, the sixth year took in her last view of the hoop and pictured herself there., IN THE MIDDLE OF IT. Right in the middle, standing up tall, maybe a couple of people clapping and throwing praise at her, too. Scratch that last part. In the middle. Standing tall. Add in the sheer concentration levels that one should only reach for this purpose, Elodie apparated for the second time that day. She didn't have time to think about whether the strangeness of it would one day become like habit, because when the feeling disappeared she knew she was at least somewhere.

Els opened her eyes to check where she had turned up and let out a sigh of relief when she caught sight of her feet. In the middle of a hoop. In the middle of the exact hoop she had been all looky looking at. OH. YES. And she still had her feet! Quick check for her nose, and ears, and...where was her h-OH. Yeah. She'd put her hair into a ponytail and she was prrrrrrrettty sure she knew it was all there. Would it feel like a hair being pulled from your head if you splinched it? She was all okay. OH YEAH APPARITION, YOU WEREN'T EVEN GOING DOWN SWINGING. OOOSH.

One step done... a couple more to go. Next up was to apparate to one of the three hoops in front of her.

Left, right, or middle? Eh... she liked middle best so that'd be the one she would go for. She gave herself a minute or two to let her stomach settle and get her focus back to the hoop. She wanted to be there. Destination.... center of middle hoop. Determination... she wanted to be there...right there. Deliberation... She was going to make it there all in one piece...

Focus, picture the ending... And then move... This time it was only a little crack when she disapparated and then came the tube feeling like she was be pulled through a straw. And then, an instant later, she was wobbling in the hoop between two others. She had done it again!! With everything seemingly still together too!!

Just one more bullet point on the board to get through then, yes? It was nice to know that she was that close to being done. Of course, it didn't mean that Alice could breeze through this last movement, as even that would require her utmost focus. But it was nice to know that after she was finished, the stress would be gone, and she would have a nice shiny license to show for her efforts.

If she made it into the hoop, that was.

Surveying her options, she decided to aim for the hoop that she'd successfully apparated into the first time. It wasn't out of safety, but more because it felt reassuring to know that she'd landed in it before, which meant she could do it another time. Alice focused all her attention on the area enclosed within that hoop, focusing especially on the center. No edges now. None.

Upon turning, she was overwhelmed with the same tube-y sensation almost immediately. Transporting herself had definitely become easier than it had been in the lesson- at least she was moving, right? But it hadn't turned into a simple activity, just something doable, like spell casting or potion brewing. Apparating still demanded her concentration and determination to power it, but it wasn't impossible any longer.

When she landed, Alice found herself in the very center of the hoop. And then pumped a fist into the air. WHERE was HER license?

Cassirin 02-09-2014 04:29 AM

It was acceptable for Cat to hug Mr. Newell... less so for Mo to do it. Then again, he was Caleb's dad, and Caleb was a cool guy... Mo offered his fist for a bump instead. Yes, sir, fist bump, sir? Maybe?

It wasn't every day a guy passed his Apparition test, and a fist bump seemed appropriate. Mo accepted the piece of paper and filled it out with a flourish before handing it back to the man.

Once his paper was handed in, Mo scooted over next to Cat and took her hand, squeezing it tightly in his excitement. "You want to go have cake? I really want cake."

License. Liceeeeeeeeeense. It was almost as if Alice was an albino bloodhound sniffing out her permission to apparate instead of searching for nogtail on a farm. She skipped around the room in a curvy line until she arrived at the spot in front of Mr. Newell, a proud beam in place on her face, arms held far out at her sides for splinching examination.

"Hi, sir! I've got all my parts! Intact arms and legs and fingers and toes and face and hair and tummy and even eyebrows. Mhm. Just need an intact license to match." Yes, PLEASE.

Onto phase three. Onto impending doom, also. Because..now she had even more of a choice, and each one of these next things could result in too much of a distraction for her to do this properly and possibly die/splinch/die/DIE/DIIIIIIIIEEEEEE. Which was definitely not on today's agenda. No siree. Elodie stood in her hoop for a few moments more than she would have wanted to, but used the time to make mental pros and cons of the obstacles presented before deciding on one.

THE LAVA. Which obviously, as they wouldn't be inviting students to die, was either fake, or FAKE. So she knew she wouldn't die. And some lava was coloured orange, and she was rather fond of that colour. (Understatement of the century, say the lucky orange socks) Looking at the other side of the lava, where she was going to BE soon, Elodie took a deeeeeeeeeep breath, letting the outgoing air make a whistle sound and then she prepared herself again. A little wiggle here, a little wiggle there, and then she was in the zone.

Scrunchy closure of the eyes, focus on the everything vitally important, quick breath, and there it was again. The physical feel of what she was doing. Apparating. And the physical proof that if you wanted something enough, it would happen. Because she'd wanted to do that SO FREAKING BAD that when she opened her eyes and was able to look over her shoulder at the lava and the hoops, she squealed and clapped a little.

Oh they danced until their legs were nearly lame, every little crawling creature you could name.... SUCCESS WIGGLES. What was next?

Two down, two more apparition attempts to go.. Then she could go prove that she hadn't lost anything (except maybe her appetite) and that she deserved her license. But first was to choose which hazardous obstacle she would have to get by. She didn't really want to get wet, even if by accident, so puddle was out. That looked like a very deep pit, which would probably be hard to climb out of if needed, but the lava also didn't look like fun, even if it was fake and wouldn't kill you. So the pit made the most sense and thus, pit it was.

Taking a step to center herself more in front of the giant pit, Lily stared down the other side. It wasn't that far.... and it wasn't like she was jumping either. But down to business. Apparition had seemed to have gotten easier since the first lesson. Sure, she still had to focus, but it wasn't as hard to picture herself in her hoped destination and it wasn't nearly as hard to decide to apparate. Now she just kinda had to do it and crack! She was across the pit, though slightly off balance. She still gave herself a fist pump into the air and a little victory laugh. All she had to do now was one more apparition to one of those little hoops without splinching and she'd be good! Oh and look! Mo and lots of others had passed!

Tessa

Sander belatedly realized that Mr. Newell had said they could leave the classroom once they had passed their test. So he leaned over and whispered to Tessa,"I think we can go now. Let's go and celebrate our passing this test." he grinned at her.

Then he walked out of the classroom before offering his hand to her. "I know where we can go to celebrate. Take my hand and I'll show you," he told her.

Sander was eager to tell their younger friends that both he and Tessa now had their license to apparate.

Back to the hoops, back to the hoops, BACK TO THE HOOPS.

That was it. Getting back to those hoops was all that stood between her and success, or freedom or whatever it was that this would equal. What she was really thinking of was leaping into her bed and patting her full belly after she had feasted on success food. SUCCESS FOOD WAS GOOD FOOD. And then she'd be some sort of different human being because she'd have passed and she would be a success around the world her brain. Would she feel any different? Or would this be like a birthday when you pretended you felt different, but actually really, really didn't. At all.

She had to remember the three D's one more time today, and she had to apply them only once more before she could go thumbs up at people again and lie somewhere and make loud sighing noises and nap. ONCE MORE. One more time. ONE MORE TIME. Els decided on a different hoop to the one she had previously been in and concentrated on it, taking in the difference in distance between that one and where she was, and that one and the one she had been in before. Everything was riding on this one. She shut her eyes and did everything she had done before..again. The focus, the concentration. Plus the biting of her lip when she felt it happen once more.

It was okay if she had landed in a hoop. It was okay if she had landed in the wrong hoop. No one knew which hoop she had been intending for, but when she did open her eyes (after wobbling on her feet a little and having to wiggle her arms to gain stability again) she was TH-ERE. BABAM.

TeafortheSoul 02-09-2014 06:20 AM

So the first part was the easy part, right? Front of the room to back of the room. Not that West felt confident enough to get cocky about it, he was still putting his utmost focus in it because it'd suck to come this far and then fail in the end.

So focus... and then the next thing he knew, he was elsewhere. As in, where he should be. Not exactly pinpoint accuracy but front to back for sure, and all in one piece. Yay. Now for the next part... the hoop. Which one?

With that DONE and DUSTED. Elodie checked once more for all visible limbs, by wiggling all ten of her fingers, and all ten of her toes. Then her nose, then both arms and then both legs. And then she tilted her head to either side, and checked for other things. Yes. She was all there. Alllllllll of her. No splinching. No death. Nothing entirely awful except hunger noises from her tummy, and a sleepy headache.

She BOUNCED towards Mr. Newell all wiggly fingered and wavey waving and GRINNED. "Did I do good? You can check I have all ten toes if you want. I'll even take my shoes off." He could see her coloured nails TOO.

Give us the pass comment, Mr. GIVE IT NOW.

TeafortheSoul 02-09-2014 09:33 AM

West eyed the three hoops, suspicious of if one might be booby trapped or something. Twenty feet didn't seem hard though.... and after a time he decided to go with the middle hoop, because it was right there. He concentrated and.... apparated into the hoop, not quite dead centre but at least the practicing was paying off right?

He glanced up for the next lot of instructions and took a moment to recentre himself. Focus, Odessa.

Anyways back to the subject at hand!

"Good job, sir! You've passed," he said with a smile before handing the boy his certificate.

Theo watched the man closely, and then he said the words that he wanted to hear. He had PASSED? "Really?" He said automatically. Theo took hold of the papers that were handed to him and beamed. Maybe he was just good at transportation-types of magic. You know, flying, apparition... it was just wand stuff that he sucked at. The Slytherin filled the information out on the piece of paper then handed it back to Mr. Newell.

Two things left to do in order to pass the test. Apparate back to a hoop and then go get inspected. She could do this!! She just had to... ya know... actually get into the hoop when she apparated. Which was going to happen now... or as soon as she actually focused on which hoop she wanted to apparate to. The redhead seventh year was still trying to fight back some of the side effects of apparating while trying to focus on getting to the hoop, specifically the left hoop, since she wanted to prove she could apparate to other locations too.

Left hoop it was. That was her destination this time. The other steps to apparition would come later as Lily got to work focusing on her task to get into the left hoop. She stood still for a couple seconds before closing her eyes and disapparating, only opening her eyes again after she had steadied herself. Looking first to see that she had all of her parts, Lily glanced down to where she was standing. She had made it into the hoop, but was a bit closer to one end than the other, the only off center hit of the day. But still!! She had done her last apparition for the test and she hadn't splinched!! So now she just had to go be inspected to prove it.

TeafortheSoul 02-09-2014 06:08 PM

Okay, so puddles, potholes, or fake lava. Puddles were fifty feet though, a little far to start with maybe. West knew he could do 20 already since he just had in order to get to the hoop he was currently standing in and all that, so logically that was the place to start, right? Assured that this was the right choice, West focused hard, mentally repeating all that three D stuff in his head. He could do this.

... and goooo.... he POPPED away... felt his body go strangely tight and then reappeared... clear of the obstacle. There was twenty feet of potholes now between him and his origination point of the centre hoop. YESSS. SUCCESS WAS SWEET.

.... well, ALMOST success. Almost time to... a little more.

She was done apparating, but now she had to go prove that she still had everthing with her. Slowly, she made her way over to the line of people to be inspected. She wasn't really in a rush since she had some time left for the actual test part of it and she wasn't apparating anymore for the day. After waiting in line for a bit, it was her turn to be inspected. "I don't think I lost anything at all, sir." Lily said with a bit of a smile. It would be really bad if she had lost something and didn't know it, but that wouldn't be the case because she had already checked herself.

No missing eyebrows, articles of clothing, fingernails or even single piece of hair. Lily had confidence she was going to pass... and if not, well... she wasn't going to think about that.

TeafortheSoul 02-09-2014 06:21 PM

And now to go back to the hoops yes? He turned to face them and again decided to play it safe by going back to the one he'd come from, in the centre. Twenty feet again. He was a pro at twenty feet. He glanced down at the potholes between him and his destination and then put them out of his mind to focus again. Then pop! And he reappeared in the hoop feeling a little sick but all in one piece that he could feel. Ehh he wanted to sit down though. Almost. Just had to get inspected now, right?

Yay! She got a perfect score! Sarah was beaming. Others had said that cramming did not work, but it ALWAYS worked for Sarah. She just listened during class and read over notes. (Although it did help that she had brains.)

Sarah looked at the first instructions. She had to apparate to the other side of the classroom. DEEP Breath. Sarah looked at what her destination looked likem taking it all in. Sarah closed her eyes, and thought about it all, the destinatation, and how much she wanted to be there. Most of all, she pictured herself at the other end of the room. Suddenly she felt that tighetning of her chest, that feeling of her eyeballs.. being pushed back (that was one body part she was protective over her, which was why she thought there should a more pain free way to teleport), and than it was over. She was at the back of the classroom. She looked around to see if she left any body parts behind... nope, none she had made it in one piece.

TeafortheSoul 02-09-2014 06:40 PM

He had not splinched himself so there was that, but they needed to look at him and state that was true themselves right? He eyed up the Apparition tester people, including Caleb and Sophie's dad, and then headed over there, waiting for his turn to be examined and hopefully passed. West felt a little sick still and a little nervous. This was exciting but what if he'd done something wrong and turned out to be THE ONLY ONE who didn't pass or something? How embarrassing would that be? He kept this concern hidden though and waited casually to be inspected.

What next? On to the hoops. Sarah didn’t know why she was getting this license in the first place… it was useful to have and all, but where possible she would rather use other methods of transportation. She was going to get muggle driver’s license ASAP, or at least that was what she decided after finding out how uncomfortable apparition was. Which hoop should she choose? The middle one would be great. Sarah looked at it very closely.. yup she would use that. It was 20 feet away, but no fear, she could so it. She thought about going there, that middle hoop. Again she pictured herself in it, she was going to land in it, and pass this test, no matter if she was going to use this license often or not. Than that awful feeling came over her again, the terrible pressure. She wondered why no one ever mentioned how uncomfortable it was to apparate, maybe once one got used to it, the terror did not bother one that much. After the blackness, Sarah found herself in the middle hoop. It was not a bulls eye landing in the dead centre of the hoop, a bit off to the side, but it was in the hoop nevertheless.

Now she had to apparate over the obstacles… Eek, she was not doing the pothole or lava, that would add a fear factor to the pain of apparating. She would do that giant puddle instead – it looked less scary. That pothole had to be made by magic anyway; Sarah did not even know if there were potholes made by rain that deep. Even the Bourkes Luck Potholes were not that deep. Sarah looked at other side of the puddle, less than ten of her could lie down in the width. She thought about it, she was going to do this, get to the other side and all. She could even see her there. Than that feeling came over her, that suctioning feeling… next thing she knew it the pressure was released and Sarah was on the other side of puddle!
One more obstacle to go! She was nearly there! Sarah looked at her watch anxiously.

Y'know, this was starting to get a little easier save the headache, which was a new development. He was really starting to think that maybe with some luck and a little bit of charm he could pass this. After all, he was insanely charming and good looking and...yeah. Ascanius was confident, alright?

But when he saw everything that he had to accomplish next- he froze. A fifty foot puddle was not something he could just apparate over. That took skill and grace and things he had just not in the apparating department. Other things, yeah. Just not this.

Trying to swallow his fear and maybe some of his lunch that was aching to make a reappearance. The sixth year just threw on a brave face and did what he was supposed to do. Destination...was way over there. Focus...he could do that. Intention...wavering a little, but mostly under control.

He tried to imagine himself in the new place, but he got scared and had to take a step away. The Slytherin was no stranger to anxiety, which was the cause behind his frequent dips into the zen culture...but yeah...he needed to find that inner peace right now. Deep down. Inside of him. Or some weird zen mantra thing.

And then, he heard a pop and he opened his eyes to see if he broke his leg of something to get such a response.

NOPE. He was across the puddle.

Holy...what?
