Like the first challenge, the final challenge for him was to apparate once again into one of the hoops. Sander walked back to where the three hoops lay 20 feet away on the ground. This time he picked the middle hoop to apparate into. This was his last task and although it looked easy, Sander was starting to feel tired which meant that he had to concentrate even harder in order for him to successfully apparate into the center of the middle hoop.

Sander focused his attention on the hoop itself, especially inside its inner circle. He visualized himself standing where he was, and then disappearing from here and instantaneously appearing there, standing inside the center of the hoop. Here...There..Here...There...

Closing his eyes as he visualized himself moving, Sander moved his left foot back and turned on the spot. He again felt that now familiar feeling of twisting and turning into nothingness.

.....POP!!....

...and the next thing he knew, there was a popping sound and the twisting sensation stopped. Sander opened his eyes and first looked over to his left and right to determine that he was indeed standing in the middle hoop. Then he carefully checked himself. He breathed a sigh of relief when he found that he was still in one piece and nothing of himself or his attire had been left behind in the earlier spot he had been standing in.

When he didn't see anything there, Sander smiled. He had successfully completed the challenges the instructor had assigned them.

The whirling and sickness feeling in his stomach was disintegrating every time that he practiced. It made the sensation a lot more comfortable and soon hopefully it would just be an every day feeling. Terry was feeling quite confident that he had moved somewhere before he even opened his eyes. It made him feel pretty good in himself but the real question was whether he had managed to get to the spot that he wished to be. Was he at the back of the room or had he only moved a couple of feet.

He opened one eye first, taking a peek at his surroundings. Well he had definitely gone somewhere. He opened his other eye and breathed a sigh of relief as he could see the front of the room a distance away. He turned around to see that he was standing next to the back wall. A grin fell on his face, proud that he had achieved the first apparition. Only a couple more tests to go and he'd get his apparition license. This wasn't so hard.

Now what was next? He squinted at the board, trying to get some indication of the next task. It was the hoops, wasn't it? He had managed to complete these successfully during the lessons so it shouldn't be too difficult of a task to complete again.

Had it really been two weeks already?? Lily had made sure to spend extra time studying for her apparition exam because she didn't want to wait any longer to get her license. Walking into the classroom, the seventh year gave a nod to the instructor sir and took a seat, getting started on the test.

That one... and oh, and that one.... that one was easy... Furiously scribbling through the test, Lily made sure her answers were exactly what she had wanted before placing her quill to the side and going over to the ministry person to turn in her written portion. Nervously, she nibbled her fingers while she waited. What if she didn't pass and was the only one not to pass? She'd be happy to pass even if she lost her lunch while doing the physical portion of it. The two things she didn't want to do were splinching and failing the written. Please Mr. Ministry person, please don't fail me... she thought, waiting for her test to be graded.

Now it was time for him to be examined by the instructor and his assistant to assure that he hadn't splinched during the entire testing process. Slowly walking over to them, Sander gave them an exhausted smile.

"Mr. Newell, I've completed the tasks and I'm here to be examined," Sander told both of them and then stood still and waited patiently for the examination to begin.

He was anxious to know whether he had passed or not. To have a license would definitely be awesome and something to show his siblings when he went home for Christmas holidays.

This was it.

Ella had been waiting for this for years and the day was finally here. The eighteen year old arrived a little bit early, pacing a bit outside the room before entering. She needed to get her mind right before she attempted the written portion of the test.

Speaking of, once the blonde had entered and settled in with this portion of the testing, she found that it wasn't all that hard. It looked like paying attention during the lesson had really paid off. It took her a bit because of double and triple checking her answers but eventually, Ella handed in her test and waited for the verdict.

Please let her have passed. Please.

... ... It was testing time.

Breathe... breathe...

This... shouldn't be that hard, right? Except he knew that he'd have to apparate properly in front of Mr Newell over there which... made him a lot more nervous. He ran a hand through his grey brown hair, making it look more ruffly but still good he hoped than it already was. He was probably making this a lot worse for himself. There wasn't really that much to be nervous about, was there?

... Except Mr Newell was going to be watching them. And he hadn't managed to get onto the apparating onto a lilypad. He would have mostly likely ended up in the swamp instead of on the lilypad but... he would have wanted a go, you know? It was probably his fault for taking so long to apparate into a hoop in the first place. ... Yeah.

... Moving on...

... Booklets? Sure. Grabbing one, he headed over towards a desk and lowered himself down onto a seat. He took a couple of minutes to take some more deep breaths before opening the booklet and scanning the questions within. ... Right. Okay. Positive thinking, right? It had helped him with the OWLs and, usually, for Quidditch matches too. It had also helped him with the apparition earlier on... eventually.

Scribble... scribble... scribble...

...

After a while, Alec placed his quill down and sat back in his seat, scanning his answers quickly. He wasn't going to run out of time, right? ... Here's hoping not. Once he was done, the boy handed the booklet in to be marked. That was that done.

After successfully landing inside one of the hoops, Tag turned his back to face the front of the room. Now he had to apparate over one of the obstacles.

STARE.

Now that would be much much much harder than anything Tag had done up to this very moment. He began to weigh his options on which obstacle to attempt. One thing is that he didn't want to get his lush, fluffy hair wet. Nope. Alec might see him, if he landed in the water, and have a heart attack at seeing the sight of Tag's hair flop right onto his head, flat and wet. No, no distractions for Alec. So his other options were the potholes or the... lava?

Lava it is then. Potholes. Nope. Lava. Yes.

Was he meant to apparate over the lava from the hoop? There weren't specific instructions on that, but Tag took a safe bet that that's exactly what they were supposed to do. The blonde tried to find a good spot to try and apparate to from the end of the lava. There it was.

Focus. Concentration. Three D's and apparating over the lava.

That was such a long distance to cross over. Tag was really worried over this. Most likely causing his mind to panic a bit. But he'd gotten this far, he was capable of accomplishing this.

Closing his eyes Tag tried to picture the place he would be landing at. But all his mind saw was a faint outline. He concentrated on making that outline stand out a bit more in his mind. Which barely happened.

Here goes nothing.

Tag's insides crushed into his body, got squeezed at, pulled and expanded. But, as soon as it happened it had ended. The boy landed, his back bent over a bit forward, one leg behind him and the other stopping him in place. He looked around. The good thing was, he hadn't landed in the lava, the bad thing was was that his feet hadn't landed close together and his body posture wasn't the greatest.

Ah, the first lady tester. He smiled and took her booklet, grading it quickly for her so if she passed, she could start. Yup, she'd passed! He grinned and put her book aside for her file.

"Good job, you passed!" he said with a grin. Now onto the practical!

Tessa shot a grin to the man as he confirmed her passing score. One worry down, now on to the practical portion!

She moved to one end of the room, remembering that it was apparating across the room that was first. She put her back against the wall as she focused on where her destination would be. Looking across the room, she picked a spot under one of the Hogwarts banners. She looked at the stone work and then closed her eyes, picturing herself there.

Destination, Deliberation, Determination... she recited to herself as she took another steading breath. She could do this. She took one more peek at where she wanted to go and really focused on it.

Ready, and... She turned on the spot, and felt the familiar popping of apparition. She stepped out, steading herself and opened her eyes to see where she was. It was the other side of the room alright, and glancing up she saw the banner that she had been aiming for.

Part one, a success!

Alright! "Thank you, sir." Sophie smiled up at him and took that as an OK to start the practical portion. After checking the board, she was glad to see that she was already in the front of the room, so al she needed to do was... get to the back. Apparatinggg, obviously! Wooooo!!

"Okay." The girl turned around and stared at a particular spot at the back of the room. She could do this. She had already done it before, so no biggie. She just needed to keep her mind from going everywhere like last time. FOCUS, Sophie!

....

GAH!

The Hufflepuff took a deep breath and moved her shoulders a bit as if she was warming up. "Alright, I can do this." Because she had done it before! And without even puking! That was GOOD! "Okay." Sophie got ready and stared at the spot at the back of the room again. There. She needed to go there.

Now.

As she stared away, Sophie reminded herself of the three D's and, of course, of the flower magic thing she used to do. Combining both, she could totally do this. Alright, come ON, now!

Forcing herself to remember the sensation of the flower magic, the badger almost automatically turned on spot and in a fraction of a second she was already somewhere else trying to not lose balance. Looking around to see if she was actually on the spot she wanted to be, Sophie smiled brightly when she made sure she was, indeed at the back of the room.

Oh, yay!!!

Mo felt a little like he was cheating the system, since he was able to come in here and sit for the Apparition test before he'd technically turned 17. He wouldn't be able to use his new and fancy Apparition license until he was actually of age, but he still felt like Mr. Newell was going to toss him out at any moment. Quietly, Mo took up one of the pamphlets and found himself a seat.

The end of his quill was well gnawed by the time he got to the last question, since, somehow, Mo was more nervous about this then he was about his OWLs last term, but he felt good about his answers. Now he'd just drop off the test...

And wait.

Leaving the pamphlet on the desk, Mo returned to his seat and stared at Mr. Newell without breathing. Just going to sit over here and turn purple and try not to die from it. No big deal.

After taking a few seconds to make sure she had not splinched, Sophie turned around again and eyed the hoops that were 20 feet in front of her. Just like in the lesson! Cool!

Some more staring was in order! The Hufflepuff staaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaared at the centre of the middle hoop and did the whole concentration thing again. Focusing on the centre of chosen hoop and trying to bring back the flower-magic feeling again. Apparently the sensation would be called that in her head forever now. Fine by her!

This time it didn't take as long as in the lesson or even the first time she had apparated that day. After just a few moments of hard stare and forcing the sensation on herself, a loud POP was heard and the next thing Sophie knew was that she was, once again, trying to keep her balance in te centre of the middle hoop!

Hooraaaaaaaaaaaay!!! Another bright grin was in order too!!

With that dreadful written portion out of the way, Ascanius could now focus properly on panicking about the practical application of what he had just put on paper, yeah? Technically, since he had accomplished this once, he should have been able to do it with a certain level of ease. But in that lesson his classmates had been so much more adept at apparition in general. He was worried. Not that he was ever gonna let it show. Brave face. Or his usual default face, which was always somewhere between attractive and bored.

Deciding to try and get himself in the back of the room, Ascanius focused awful hard and tried to remember his three D's. They were the quickest way to get the desired results.

His mind, though, was ticking away with thoughts of how he might very well mess this up, so when it came time for him to actually try to apparate...nothing happened. Not even that semi-familiar sensation of his naval being tugged to a new place.

Now he was even more nervous. This was a simple task. It was just across the room.

Trying to calm his heart down, he shook out his entire body and REFOCUSED on the back of the room and the back of the room alone. That was where he wanted to go. His destination and then he tried to picture himself standing there. Nothing else. Not here or somewhere inbetween, but perfectly in tact there.

Tug, tug.

When he opened his eyes. He was there.

Success!

Just need a little breather before moving onto the hoops. Maybe apparating gets easier the more times you do it or least that is what Nigel hoped. Nigel looked across at the hoops he was going to have to land in. Should not be too hard. Just a warm up for the next to lava one.

Okay visualize yourself in the hoop. This will be new to Nigel since he really only apparated onto the pads and across a room. Not into a ring hoop thing. Still it was only 20 feet. So there is that.

Concentrate, Concentrate.

Nigel closed his eyes like he usually does and visualized himself in the the middle of the hoop. Right on the perfect spot on the floor. Eyes closed he feels that sensation again. Perfect. He feels his stomach roll and do a 360. But ignoring that and still concentrating. He opens his eyes and finds he has landed successful in the hoop he wanted to.

Perfect.

Alright, alright. No more happy dancing. It was time to concentrate again. She'd successfully pulled this off once, but she still had a number of things to do. Now what was next? Hoops. Just like in the lesson. That should be pretty easy, considering that was what she'd been doing before. It was much easier to picture yourself in a spot where you've been before.

Closing her eyes once more, Caterina pictured the hoops clearly in her mind. There were three of them, this time, and she decided to focus on the one right in the middle, just that one. Only one hoop. She didn't want to end up splitting herself in half going into two hoops.

....Was that even possible? Errrr.... oh Merlin. That was NOT something she should be thinking about right now. Oh dear.

Okay. Okay. Goodness. Focus. She was so over breaking her concentration. The hoop. The hoop was 20 feet away. That's what the directions said. Caterina thought on that over and over and pictured herself standing right inside the hoop that she wanted to go to. She focused carefully until she felt that weird squished feeling again, and when she peeked, she was definitely standing in that hoop.

Thank Merlin.

Now what did he have to do? Tag looked at the book and simply saw that his next task was easy. He'd just have to make his way back to one of the hoops. Just from here. The boy was beginning to dislike the far distances. Which made him wonder how people could do apparition into different countries and such? Wow. Effort.

So all his attention went to picking an empty, untaken hoop. Or at least one his classmates didn't seem to be carrying much about. Well, as usual he did what he always did, eyes shut, focus and the Three D's. This was his last chance right here. This was his last task, before having to go to the Instructor. His performance thus far had been, in his opinion, an average one, an 'acceptable' if one were to say. But would that be enough to pass the test? He had to stick this landing. Had to.

That had been it. It had been his 'landings' that were hindering him. He'd been doing everything else all right but the landings were throwing him off. Before doing anything else he just imagined his feet getting stuck to the ground, and stay there, feet equal distance. None of that awkward standing up stances.

There went Tag's body. Going through that odd whirlwind feeling, his eyes shut so he wouldn't have to see anything. The next time the leprechaun opened his eyes he saw he landed flat on his feet, inside the hoop.

Perfect.

Caterina did not waste any time happy dancing this time. She was standing inside the hoop and looking ahead and staring. Was that… was there LAVA over there? What the… what? It wasn’t real, it wasn’t… but… it was lava. That was possibly the coolest thing she’d seen all day. All day. And that was saying something considering she spent most of her life at a magic school.

This was the scariest part so far. Really, maybe it was all because of the distance. Surely this was the furthest away she’d ever gone. She definitely did not want to apparate into the lava. No. Not at all. She was pretty sure that would disqualify her from getting her license and after all this, she really didn’t want to take that chance. This time, Cat kept her eyes open and focused them on the other side of the lava. The ground. She needed to be there on the ground, over the lava and not in it. Deep breaths, deep breaths, deep calming breaths. Lava was cool, but she was NOT going in it. Narrowing her eyes, she willed herself to move, move over the lava. She was absolutely determined to not fail. There was only one more thing after this, she could so rock this test. Move, Caterina. Move. OVER THE LAVA.

This time, after feeling awfully uncomfortable again, (Did this ever get better? Did anyone ever get used to this? Ew.) Caterina was standing on the other side of the massive lake full of fake lava.

He had done it. Nigel had made it into the hoop and it was time to move onto the fake lava. That was some pretty cool stuff. He could not move out of the hoop. He just need to appear on the other side. Okay Okay, he could do this. Positive Thinking. No Negative thoughts today. No way.

It was not even real lava. Just do not appear in it anyway because that would mean you failed also. Forget splinching appearing in the wrong place was a ton more embarrassing. He pictures himself on the other side of the lava and determinedly willed himself to move over to where he was thinking. Next thing he knew that awful feeling was back without the stomach flipping. A little improvement. But not much. He had apparated over the lava.

Merlin, a little more behind and he would have been in it. Well besides that he had done it.

Now it was on to apparating into the hoops. She turned to look at them seeing the three. Now she just had to choose one. She looked at them carefully, trying to think of which one she would be the most comfortable apparating into. As it turned out, they were equal.

She took a breath and focused on the hoop to the right. She pictured herself standing in it, the stones under her feet and what everything would look around her. She took a deep breath, clearing everything else from her mind and letting her nerves dull to a minor irritation.

Hoop to the right.

That firmly in her mind, she focused on the ring and with a pop she apparated. She was certainly somewhere else, and as she cracked open her eyes she saw that she was in a ring... and the correct ring! Not exactly in the center, but close enough- merely an inch or two off.

Okay, on to the next part of the test!

With a hiss of air, Mo started breathing again at the good news that he was cleared to start the practical portion. The downside, of course, was that the practical portion could have him leaving bits of himself all over the room. Honestly, if he left so much as a pocket behind, he was going to be VERY unhappy with himself.

There were a lot of things he had to do to prove his worth, and it would be easy to get overwhelmed by that. Mo breathed deeply as he moved to the front of the room, conscious that the eyes of those who were still taking their written tests might be on him right now. No big deal. Just... if he DID leave that pocket behind, someone was probably going to notice it right off. He'd go the rest of his life being called "Pocketman." "Pocket-less." "El Pocketo." Something.

If he worried about it too much, he wouldn't be able to get through it at all, so Mo closed his eyes and faced the wall. All he had to do was one jump at a time. Worry about each step as they happened. Easy as pie. For now, he was just jumping to the back of the room. He knew what the back of the room looked like. He knew how it felt to move from here to there.

He had this one. Mo breathed in as he turned on the spot, all his focus on moving from this point to the one at the back of the room. Here to there. Destination... acknowledged. His lungs now full of air and being squeezed both internally and externally, the Ravenclaw knew that his Apparition had worked from the pressure he felt on himself. When he opened his eyes, panting from the pain, he found himself at th eback of the room. A few steps off from where he'd intended, but very VERY close.

Tessa turned in her hoop to look at the next challenge. She remembered hearing that there would be some sort of obstacle... and gulped when she saw that lava was the closest one to her.

Not really lava, she reminded herself and took a deep breath. She just had to get in the zone, just like she did before every Quidditch game. As she had repeated to herself over and over since the test started I can do this.

Lava it was. She looked across the lava, finding a good spot for her to apparate too. Just like with the practice session, each of these seemed to be getting easier- more natural. However, that didn't mean she could lose her focus either. She returned her attention to the spot and focused on it.

Closing her eyes, she turned and with a pop landed on hard ground once more. Opening her eyes, she found she was across from the lava!

"Yes!" she exclaimed, doing a jump of excitement before containing her joy once more. Only a few more tests to do! And she was getting more confident with each one.

FireboltAvis88 02-08-2014 04:58 AM

Sander stood on the sidelines as he watched Tessa complete each challenge. He had held his breath when she began apparating over the pools of lava and breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that she had successfully accomplished that challenge too.

Now all she had left was to apparate into one of the hoops and she'd be done. 'Come on, Tessa. You can do this,' Sander wanted to shout out the words to her, but chose to remain silent not wanting to break her concentration.

Tessa knew that this was just another apparition, just like all the others, but she could also feel that the end of the test was near. With that thought, she broke her concentration just as she was about to apparate. She turned... but there wasn't a pop. Only a wobble!

She caught herself, her eyes opened wide in surprise. What had happened? She went back and played through her thoughts and kicked herself. She hadn't focused on a destination- she had just been thinking on the end of the activity.

Focus Hedge, she scolded herself. At least she hadn't actually apparated- most likely that would have ended in splinching- or worse. Noticing Sander, she quickly shot him a smile before returning her attention to the hoop on the other side of the lava. This would be easy compared to earlier- after all, she had been in the hoop before.

"Three Ds," she murmured to herself, concentrating on the hoop.

She'd tried to keep meals light today, because no vomiting was to happen during testing, right? It wasn't in the rules, but that was probably an automatic fail, so Alice had to keep her nausea contained. Stay inside the stomach please, food. It'd be much appreciated.

But at least it was certain that no upchucking would happen during the booklet potion, or so she hoped. The seventh year entered and settled in at a spot with a booklet, squinting seriously at every question she answered. Most of this stuff had been mentioned in the lesson, so paying attention in there had helped quite a bit. Still, Alice quadruple checked her test before handing it in for marking.

And then crossed her fingers.

Now she was just feeling sort of exhausted, physically somehow and most definitely mentally. Caterina rubbed at her forehead and rallied herself. This wasn’t so hard once you got used to it, really. And she only had one more thing to do before reporting back to Mr. Newell. She was tired but she was determined. She turned around and looked back over the lava, back to those hoops she’d just apparated from to begin with. She needed to go back. Once more, Caterina. One more time and you’re done with it. Done. So long as you hadn't splinched herself. Golden. She was going to be golden.

She kept her eyes open again, staring at that middle hoop. Well, actually, she moved her focus to the one on the right. A little challenge for herself, perhaps. She needed to test herself just a little bit more, just to be sure she really did deserve this.

Destination. Deliberation. Determination.

Over the lava. One more time.

…..YES! Caterina didn’t even mind that she felt tired or weird and thought Apparition was the most annoying form of magical transportation ever ever ever. She didn’t care about any of those things. She only cared that she had done it. She’d really done it! She was standing back inside the hoop, from all the way over on the other side of the lava. Her body hated Apparition so much, but she still did a happy happy happy dance.
