The wall went BOOM as the old willow knocked them down and Cutty looked directly at Beverly Wayne, thinking she'd discovered a way to blow it up somehow. By the time he'd felt the viney branches wrap around his ankle he was already upside down and looking quite offended. The idea that he might be swallowed whole or die by sheer butt-whoopin' did cross his mind, but ...erm...thankfully? Cutty had sociopathic tendencies and he had problems processing anxiety.

Still, hanging upside-down by ones ankles in the middle of Ancient Runes class was not his idea of a good time.

A yelp escaped Beverly as a branch came down on the wall and took Cutty Mordaunt. Her first instinct was to run after him and wrestle the Whomping Willow for her fellow housemate, but tripping over her robes Beverly only made a few inches forward.

Fortunately Botros was there and SAVED them all from getting squashed from the Willow. Except for Mordaunt, whom dangled from the tree. Beverly was in pain, on her stomach on the ground. Stupid tree, stupid robes and STUPID OLD BODY.

Getting back up and rubbing her elbow, she hobbled to the professor's side. If it happened again she wanted him as a shield. It was only fair. Glancing up, she waved at Cutty. Oh, his wand. Right....Um...she couldn't see properly.

"thats for later…or when you need it" he gave her a wink..

everyone loves chocolate.. alright so now that it was done they just needed to take down this wall.. thinking in his head of a spell they could use, Bay actually might have to run away, for what he was about to suggest. "Take down that wall!! I know we can do it!! how about you try "Bombarda Maxima?" he told her while moving away from her just incase the BOOM was a little too big.

Bay started to move on his legs and move his hands in the air like he just didn't care and started to cheer her on.. "wee can do it!!!! go Team Fifth Years!" he shouted hopefully getting her pumped up.

To say she was disappointed the wall was still there would have been a gross understatement. If the curse was gone then it should have worked like a charm. She'd blown up enough things to know how to get it done right and was about to launch a series of attacks on the wall when Bay tried pointing out something to her. What...? it worked? Taking a proper look for herself, Lex realized that the ward HAD in fact faded.

dhfgisgif YES!!!! Her explosion hadn't been a dud afterall! Eeep! AND A BIGGER EEEEPPPP BECAUSE HE WAS GIVING HER MORE CANDY!! "You got some kind of never ending supply I should know about?" She questioned, not at all complaining as she took the chocolate frogs and just like before, hurried over to her bag to slip them in before quickly returning to the wall. "Guess we're free to blow this wall to bits now." And Merlin was she psyched for this!

Ooooo, he was making requests now! She would have been perfectly fine with another expulso but there was no harm in added some flavour to the spell of explosions this wall was getting.

She grinned at his enthusiasm and the way he cheered before taking a breath to compose herself and turning to the wall again. "Think I'll stick with bombarda on account of there being other people around and we're not trying to hurt anyone but our side of the wall." You know, to keep the BOOM kinda contained.

Once more she took a step back. "Bombarda!" WELL?
The wall exploded into smithereens. Job well done!

Kace was glad the professor helped him out, he finally understood how to do the spells. "Professor what do you need me to do next...." he trailed off when he saw the tree move. Kace stood there wide eyed and saw the boy was climbing onto the tree. He was a little crazy and brave at that. Kace would never have thought to climb this tree. At least Bostros cast the spell in the nick of time.

Kace couldn't help but comment, "Professor he was kind of crazy going up there on his own." He shook his head and went back to examining the wall. But then he heard the boy lost his wand and Kace agreed he probably would have done the same thing if his wand was on the line.

Post 8 - Seventh Years

Sander finished chanting the Galdr, just as Alice finished carving the rune...and just in time too, because things began happening almost all at once. He could first see smoke rising from the wall and then the rune was burning.

"Yes Ella, I see and smell it too. Yes I believe it is a good thing. I think what we're doing is working," Sander replied excitedly to Ella's question as he peered closely at the wall.

Then...WHOMP!!

Sander instinctively ducked as he saw the Whomping Willow's branch move. Luckily for everyone, Professor Botros was quick to react and immobolized the tree again.

"I agree we need to work faster. Okay, I remember looking at Mo's homework when Professor Botros posted it on the Notice Board. Correct me if I'm wrong, we're supposed to now break the weak spots in the same ward. I think it's now Raidho and Jera and for the second ward the weak spot is Laguz." Sander shared his thoughts with everyone.

Now what was the opposing rune for each of them? Sander wracked his brain.

'Raidho means travel, change of place or setting. Wait! do we carve Nauthiz again or is it Isa since is represents stagnation? And for Jera is it still Isa? And since Laguz represents life, and Eihwaz represents death, is Eihwaz the opposing rune?" Sander suggested.

Yes he was grasping at straws and even he thought that his suggestion was wrong, because why would you negate a positive with a negative? But his mind was tired and he was trying the best he could.

Also considering there were two of them and it only two two tries and not more than that seemed impressive to Tag.

This time around Tag paid real close, again, to Mo's finger and followed him around. Ok. Raidho was the weak spot. Now they had to find the opposite rune of that. To hopefully break the wall some more. "How about we try Isa? It's meant to be a sort of 'stopper' on things. You know? Keeps everything still and in place, not able to move around much." Tag had a feeling this might be it. If it didn't work for him, then Mo could give it a try with his own opposite rune.

So, without wait Tag went closer to the wall, hovered his wand near Raidho and said "Intaglio Isa. Intaglio Isa. Intaglio Isa. Intaglio Isa." Hopefully that was enough. An now they were supposed to wait.
Thin smoke started rising from the Isa rune, and then burning stench spread in the air.

"It worked!" Mo tried not to sound incredulous, but since it hadn't worked first time last time, it was hard to believe they were getting smarter. But apparently they were. And Tag was the smartest one of allllllll. He offered a fist bump to Tag in celebration before turning his attention to that final line of runes.

They were SO close, and based on the sounds from beyond the wall... time was of the essence. "Okay, so the last line is Sowilo, Laguz, Perth, Ansuz, Uruz, Ansuz, Dagaz." He counted to the middle, his finger hovering over the Ansuz in the middle. "Ansuz again. Should we try Thurisaz again?"

It couldn't hurt. "Intaglio Thurisaz. Intaglio Thurisaz. Intaglio Thurisaz." Any luck?
Thin smoke started rising from the Thurisaz rune, and then the familiar burning stench. You could never go wrong with Thurisaz, apparently.

And when the wall gave out another reaction Tag couldn't help but bounce on his heels a bit. The boy was happy and relieved, ok? First try on that weak spot and he had gotten it immediately right. He was mentally congratulating himself. Now Tag wasn't much of a fistbump guy, but for this very moment there was a bright smile on his face as he gently connected his knuckles with Mo's. He was an old man after all. No need for breaking bones here.

Tag was about to give an opinion on Mo's decision when he started to carve in the opposite rune. The blonde watched his classmate do the work and hoped that everything would turn out all right. And it did. For the wall started to give out more smoke after Mo had finished. "That was the last line, right?" That's what Mo had just said but just to be sure. "Do we have to blow it up now?" Or would the wall just completely crumble on its own? If they did have to blow it up was Mo capable of doing that without injuring himself?

Post #5? Is this 5? Idk. And this is sort of a catchup thing too /fail

... Alec was paying attention. Yeah.

He had pretty much been standing there, looking between the wall and the other seventh years. The boy even nodded when Alice asked whether it was Intaglio but otherwise, he was silent. The silent, strong type. Though, a part of him wasn't sure if 'strong' was the right word to describe him.

... Right. The lesson. The wall. Maybe the wall would be scared of the girl's teeth and break on its own. Maybe.

Onto chanting then? Yeah... "Naudhiz naudhiz naudhiz... n n n n n n n n n... nu na nu ne no..." The eighteen year old was really glad that this wasn't Raidho that they were working with. "... nudh nadh hudh nedh niodh... (nut nat nit net not)... un an in en on... n n n n n n n n n..."

And on and on the chanting went until...

... something was BURNING?!

... And Cutty was being taken hostage by the Willow. ... Well... not hostage but he was up there. Alec frowned as he looked over at Botros and then back to the Slytherin. He would be okay, right? Botros would be able to handle it, right? ... Yeah. Yeah, of course.

Reluctantly, he tore his eyes away from the Slytherin and over towards Sander who was talking about... opposite runes? "Well... I agree with Eihwaz," That rune reminded him a lot of Tag, actually. Because... reasons. And Isa against Jera? Grey-blue eyes landed on the wall and he tilted his head. "I think... Raidho's opposite could be both Naudhiz or Isa but... maybe Isa might work better? I mean... it's talking about an inactivity and a blockage and... and a time to relax while Raidho's talking about a journey." Shrug. His thoughts.

As for Jera... "What's the opposite of change?"

Anna Banana 03-16-2014 10:38 PM

Sophie had been nodding along as the professor explained something about runes being broken down. She didn't understand, as usual with Runes, but she figured asking questions would only prolong class. She was just about to get distracted with thinking about the end of class, when the Whomping Willow suddenly snatched up Cutty and dangled him in the air by his ankles.

"Ah haaaa! Excellent, Cutty! You're flying!" Sophie said, grinning upward. If he reacted in any way like he did when that Beauxbatons girl turned him into an animal, she knew he'd appreciate this for what it was. Who else got dangled in the air by a tree?

He was asking for his wand, and she almost wanted to find it first just to she could bribe him with it. The professor was calling on someone else to do it, though, so she guessed she should just leave it be. "Thanks for a great lesson, sir," she said. Really great. Cutty had been mildly ATTACKED. hahaha

Bay ducked down and put his arms over his head just incase anything like pieces of wall came flying his way.. but as soon as he heard her said it the wall was so loud.. merlin's beard!!! "That was so loud" he said with a little ringing in his ears..

"yay!! we did it.. and great thinking of just using bombarda.. it was just enough to make that wall go away" he said while smiling at Lex.. hobbling his way closer to and his bag he bent over carefully and put his notes in… "thats all we needed to do right?" he said just to make sure..

if they needed to do anything else then of course he'd do it but if they were free to go he wanted to go munch on some more chocolate and curl up in his bed with his pet Pygmy Puff Ziggy and read a good Western.

Okay, so burning was meant to be a good thing. Ella gave Sander a little nod and a smile and continued watching the wall curiously. That is, until Sander spoke up next. He had some definite good ideas about opposite runes although Ella was still a bit unsure about Jera. She listened quietly to what he had to say, waiting for Alec to share his views before speaking up again.

"I definitely think we carve Eihwaz over Laguz. That's what I'd have picked too. As for Raidho, I'd go with Isa. I mean, inactivity is the opposite of progress, yeah? You're not progressing if you have some sort of blockage." Nodnod. Did that make sense? "And I'm honestly not sure about Jera but since Isa is a sort of blockage? Wouldn't that put a stop to Jera which represents change? Like..stagnant is the lack of development and you develop when you change?" Was she making any sense at all? Probably not.

Glancing around, Ella saw that Botros was dismissing his group and she frowned slightly. Were they really supposed to be done already? Oh goodness. Oh well, the aged moved slower, y'know.

"If we're pretty sure about Eihwaz, how about I give that a try. Just to see? Erm..here goes."

Ella bent closer to the wall, wand at the ready. "Intaglio Eihwaz...Eihwaz...Eihwaz...Eihwaz....Eihwaz" Concentrating all her energy, the eighteen year old carefully carved the shape as best she could.

Was this working?
Thin smoke started rising from the Eihwaz rune, followed by the burning smell.

"Yes, Sir!" Beverly saluted the professor, making way toward the older student groups. She didn't get far when Lux mentioned she had chocolate. That was lucky, wasn't it? Well, for the Slytherin dangling from the tree.

"She has chocolate, Professor," Bev pointed out, shrugging her eyebrows at Lux. How was he going to make the exchange, though? If he resuscitated the Willow, wouldn't it attempt to squish them?

"How are you--" she began to ask, but a certain glint on the ground caught her eye. It was too well taken care of to be a twig. Hehe, there it was.

"I FOUND it." Hobbling at one mile per hour, Beverly went to retrieve a certain someone's wand. Ha.

Beverly Wayne felt powerful with two wands, one in each hand.

OH. "Oh great, change of plans! You're all dismissed, unless you want to help find Mordaunt's wand. It's bound to be around here somewhere." He really didn't think that students would bring chocolate to class. Were they eating those when he wasn't looking? Huh. Interesting. He was grateful that they did, though. It came handy.

"Thank you, dear." He took the chocolate frogs from the Hufflepuff with a head pat and then smiled widely at Wayne when she found the wand. "Great! Now we need to wait for everyone to evacuate the area to un-paralyze the tree and trade it for Mordaunt!" Botros nodded confidently, then looked up at the boy. "Someone stay here with the boy while I go and check on everyone." He took the chocolates with him but left the wand in the Slytherin's hand.

Post 9? I lost count - 7th Years

Wait!...Ella and Alec were both agreeing with him? Awesome! At least he now knew that whatever remaining good brain cells he had were still working fine. He watched as Ella started working on the second ward, carving out the opposing rune for Laguz which had been identified as the weakest spot.

It was time for him to join in by empowering the rune Ella was carving, by chanting the galdr to Eihwaz. Following the others in his group, Sander chanted,"eihwaz eihwaz eihwaz e e e e e e e e e iwu iwa iwi iwa iwu iwo iwe iwi iwa iwu e e e e e e e e e" and watched with amazement as he first saw smoke and then smelt something burning.

"It's working everyone. Do you smell that? Something is burning. I believe we've broken the second ward. Now all we need to do is break the two weak spots in our first ward. Does everyone agree that the opposing rune for Raidho is Isa. If yes, can I have a go at carving that next to Raidho?" Sander asked everyone in his group.

Sander hoped that carving Isa next to Raidho would work. If it did, that just meant breaking the last rune, Jera. If it didn't, he would go hide somewhere.

Taking out his wand, Sander concentrated on what the rune Isa meant and when he was ready, began carving next to the rune Raidho, one vertical line starting from the top down to the bottom while saying,"Intaglio, Isa...Isa....Isa," and watched with abated breath for something....anything...to happen.
Thin smoke rose from the Isa rune and the burning smell started reaching everyone's noses. Hurray!

:mwaha:

CUTTY'S WAND.

Seeing the professor take his leave, Sophie dashed over to the slightly older Slytherin girl. "Hi, Beverly," she said, giving the girl a grin. It was a sly grin. A very sly grin indeed. "I see you have Cutty's wand." GIMME THE WAND.

So let's make a deal, hmm?

"What would I have to trade you in order to get possession of that wand?" she point blank asked. "I must have Cutty Mordaunt's wand. You see, I've been practical joking on this kid since the start of this school year, and...I really must have that wand."

Okay, so what do you want? What'll it be? A chocolate frog? A galleon?

Sophie grinned at the professor and waved as he walked off. "I'll stay with THE BOY!" she said. Cue another sly grin. "He's in good hands with me!"

Hee hee. 'The boy'.

And so the exchange for her sweets provider began. Beverly watched as the professor wandered off then looked at both wands in her grasp. This. Was. Awesome. No doubt Cutty's wand was a good wand. He seemed like a fit wizard, for his age. So when the Newell kid came over to her, Beverly raised an eyebrow at her.

Hmmm. So she wanted Mordaunt's wand. Ha! Good luck, she wasn't trading it for anything. Beverly turned her nose up, her eyes on the girl.

"Unless you have a cure for rapid aging, nope," she said, tucking Cutty Mordaunt's wand inside her robes pocket. That was REALLY all that she'd exchange the wand for. What else would a girl that has everything she dreams of want?

That and Cutty Mordaunt has potential of being a great ally.

WHAT!? NO!!!

The girl had turned her down. Not only that, but she even had her nose turned up! Well, ...the professor HAD said something had smelled a little earlier. Maybe it was still drifting around. Sophie had to try another tactic.

"Do I look like I have a cure for rapid aging?" she asked the girl. Connections. She needed CONNECTIONS. Oh! What was that Aunt Sierra had said about... "So, Beverly...how's Kennedy doing these days?" she asked.

GIVE ME THAT WAND.

She would take it by force if she had to. She could upstage a third year.

Beverly was pleased to hear what she'd been expecting. No one had a cure for this rapid aging thing, so it was a major DUH at Newell. She patted her robes where Cutty's wand was secure, then froze.

How did this girl know HER brother?

"He's doing splendid," she replied casually. Then with a scowl, "How do you know my brother?" And who did she think she was to bring him up right now?!

Sophie could tell the girl was more than pleased Sophie didn't immediately have a cure. BAHHH. Who DID have the cure anyway? Sophie needed that cure, too. Sophie watched as Beverly patted the wand, secured in her pocket, then froze as realization dawned on her.

Brother?! WHOA. Sophie had actually thought he was a cousin, but this was even better. "Oh, he's just dined at my grandparents' house some," Sophie answered. Only once, but Beverly didn't need to know that. Also, Sophie hadn't even been there, but Beverly didn't need to know that either.

Anddddd... "He's pretty involved with my aunt," Sophie finally said. "Pretty cool to think he might be Uncle Kennedy one day, eh?" Sophie and Beverly were practically COUSINS...or something.

Mo nearly placed his hand on the wall very tentatively, his breath caught in his throat just in case he received a jolt, but at the last minute... he jerked his hand back and shrugged. "I think it's ready to be blasted, honestly, but I'm not willing to stop my heart to test that theory. Especially since my heart is already sorta running funny anyway."

Old age was a killer. Literally.

"That was the last ward, so I think we should just... give it a go." And Mo kind of wanted to do it. Was it okay with Tag if he did it? Hmm? Mo pointed his wand at the wall, reconsidered and took four big steps back, and cast the spell right at the wall. "Reducto!"

Did it work? No more wall?
The wall stayed solid for a second... then it vanished into dust.

Ian had watched all that had gone on. He was grateful that he'd begun to back up because he wasn't entirely too happy to have seen a housemate get tangled up in the tree. As soon as he saw unnatural movement from the tree, he had taken off to what he considered a safe distance. He could hear a little, but as he saw some of his classmates making for the castle, he joined them. He'd had enough of this class. He saw rune breaking, but the thing he would most remember from this class was the angry tree. He didn't want a repeat of this activity.

what is this post lol idk IDK MAN IDK

Oh, hey, would you look at that; the rune totally worked!

Tobias beamed at a job well done and a sort of group nod to everyone 'cause teamwork and all that. He did start to shuffle forwards to touch the wall before there was.......................... a problem. A Cutty-sized problem, to be exact.

For a while, Tobias just blinked up at Cutty and over at Botros and around at the others, and stayed silent. It was very possible all the sudden action had confused his old and tired brain; Toby had not been prepared for action today.

Soon, people had started to disperse and someone had Cutty's wand (why did they have Cutty's wand??? didn't that belong to Cutty???) and Botros had wandered off and now only a few people remained.

As a friend of the current tree ornament, Toby figured maybe it was a good idea for him to keep an eye on the Slytherin, and he did so, still kind of confused about how this had happened.

And about something else too. Nearby, Sophie Newell and Tobias' dance partner from that one time were discussing trading Cutty's wand, which was odd. The fourteen year old watched them with interest, just for a moment, but then went back to keeping an eye on Cutty when it seemed that wand bartering was not going to continue.

Did Newell want to get flicked in the throat?

As far as she knew Kennedy's only been at the Greingoth's ONCE. True, she didn't know if that was completely right; he hadn't told her of any more visits. But if Newell thought she didn't know her brother well enough, she was WRONG.

She crossed her arms. "Oh, really? So involved they haven't seen each other in ages." She's heard him tell Johnathan all his sorrows about missing his girlfriend (ex? whatever).

Beverly kept a cool expression when Newell called HER BROTHER 'Uncle Kennedy'. In her mind, she'd already thumped the younger girl all the way to Mars. Good thing she knew something Newell didn't know about her brother, and that made her feel better, but this called for something more.

She shrugged. "I wonder what his other girlfriend would think about that. Eve won't be too happy." Beverly was already apologizing to Kennedy for this GIGANTIC LIE. But her brother was hers.

And she didn't want to lose to a second year.
