Students, staff, alumni, and curious bypassers....all are welcome to join in the fun and have a seat here in the spacious grandstand. You can see all three contest arenas from here: Beauxbatons, Durmstrang, and even Hogwarts. Never mind that all are tiny and far away and the contestants look like shrimps! They're doing great!
You're more than welcome to clap, cheer, hold up signs, and do the wave, but don't be surprised if the contestants can't see or hear you. They are FOCUSED. And they're also enclosed in their own little areas, but it's the thought that counts!

A slow start to the round, a bit disappointing really, Emily had hoped there would be beasts, opponents or something combustible... alas, not yet. Yet. Which meant there was hope.
In the meantime she was particularly amused by said little redhead stealing glances at her. We see you. We see you looking whilst making it look like you weren't. Emily smirked, huffing to herself before burning the girl in the back of the head with her gaze. Didn't like to be watched? Well this would be good fun. It only added to her amusement to see the girls little friends... all foreigners by the looks, and sounds.. yes accents carried. Fascinating... not.
Though, she didn't want to miss the action, it was the reason she had come all this way, of course. The good stuff, the problem solving, the pressure, the mild chaos. Beauxbatons looked to be weakest, which didn't surprise her, and the Hogwarts representatives seemed to be doing surprisingly well. Durmstrang, thoughts of her mother aside, would be in for a treat, they were in for a challenge.

Oooooh lookit, the girl was reacting, like a child... how sweet, and positively disgusting. Emily's expression didn't change, the girl didn't make her feel uncomfortable let alone startle, so meh. She'd been about to ask the foreigner if there was a problem, but her attention soon turned to the boy beside her, mouthing a... was that a warning? How cute.
Headstrong. Annoying. Children.
The fact that they were Durmstrang students annoyed her more. She knew this because of their accents, which were clearly not French, and nor was it British... not to say all Hoggies were Brits, but more or less.
Then there was their behaviour and attitude, so much 'tude; it was characteristic, even cliche of them. Emily was almost tempted to converse in tongue to them. It had been a while since she used her Swedish - her mother would be proud, for sure - but her Czech and Russian were quite strong. One of them would surely strike a chord.
"Is there a problem?" she asked innocently enough, making a show of taking a moment to look around the stadium at the other spectators before fixing her gaze back on the pair.
Karina looked gratefully over at Ström when he went to her defense against the weird, and most likely hostile, woman. Good luck she smiled at her boyfriend and watched him get up to leave and enter his own task. Once he was out of her sight she whipped around and glared daggers again at the woman. She raised her eyebrows and shot back an answer at the woman, "Yes, there is." her Swedish accent becoming a tad stronger than her normally nearly perfect English in her aggressiveness. Even though this woman needed to know not to glare at Karina Wozniacki, there was no reason to let her cool demeanor slip and show weakness. She collected herself slightly and continued. "Ah, I was only wondering why you were glaring at me." she said bluntly. Then she added in Swedish, more under her breath than anything else. Certain that the woman would not understand or hear her she said, "It's not polite you know". She could have said it out loud, and in English, but she needed to say something in her native tongue, if only to ground herself.

Off in her day dream, Tessa wasn't paying attention to the students and visitors who had started filling the stands. She also didn't notice one of her friends, a fellow first year enter. It wasn't until he was sitting directly beside her that Tessa snapped out of her day dream.
"Oh. Hello A!" Tessa greeted with a smile. It seemed like it had been years since she had last seen her friend. That made her feel like her accident with avocados was light-years away. "Just waiting for the second task to begin. Did you see the first one? I forgot about it and slept right through it." Tessa explained. Although she was sad she had missed the first task, her nap was well worth it.
Just as she went to say more to Claudette she looked up to see Ariana sitting down near them. "Hey Ari" She smiled towards her best friend. "Having fun so far? I think we are doing well from what I can see, but it's kind of hard to see anything." She squinted down. They actually looked down. So that meant lunch break and then second task, right? She turned and looked at her little group that had formed, "I think it's a lunch break down. Anyone hungry?" She really wasn't, but would walk with others if they were.
"Hello." again, yes she already said hello, so why she said it again she wasn't entirely sure. "well, considering i just got here." morning were NOT her thing her best friend should know that above anyone else yeah? so expecting ariana any earlier then now was just crazy. " i'm fine, had some fruit while i waited for the hot chocolate." not really but she didn't want to eat anything so she just sipped her hot chocolate and hoped her friend bought the white lie she fed her " i'll walk with you though if you want."

" i wish i knew what was so exciting." she would know, if she came here earlier, but beauty sleep you guys, it's important. " next task will be more thrilling for me i hope." she KNEW. " i think Hudson is in the second part, or something." whatever her dorm mate said to her this morning, it was of some importance since the girl said she had better show up to support her or something.. whatever.

Nippy, Emily was amused.
She wasn't the type to pick fights with children, on the contrary, she'd rather ignore them... but seeing as she did not start with the observing and the staring and glaring, she didn't feel at fault. And yes, the she started it excuse was plausible. "Well perhaps you oughtn't be trying to sneak peaks at strangers," stating the obvious. Emily had been sitting here, minding her own business, trying to watch the competition when she caught the redhead glimpsing her. "Some would think that was rude," she added, having understood the girls private remark.
She could have left it at that, but it was the perfect opportunity to teach the girl a lesson in manners, and to never underestimate a stranger. "Be careful who you accuse of glaring, kamrat," she added boldly.
EBWEQBSC was not the best acronym for this scholastic tournament thing. In Nigel's opinion the official name was too long to even need one. Plus how do you even say EBWEQBSC. Questions to ponder. But of Course Nigel would be here cheering on West and Awesome Haired Dude Alec. He did not want the Beuxs and Durms to win.
It seemed when he got there. He was the first fifth year to arrive. .....Wait was Flamsteed wearing pink and singing? All Nigel could do was stare and think he bit his tongue half way through singing the school song. Too much excitement probably.
Yeah. Seat then watch.
There was the Prefect who floated. She was keeping an eye on him. Just for... research purposes. Heh.
But she didn't take a seat near him...
She had already spotted where she was going to sit.

Cutty's angry little eyes were beginning to turn into a less angry and more intensely interested pair as he watched the ludicrously acronymed quiz bowl match. That was until a large, presumably older student approached him.
It was female. Of course. Why the hell would it be anything else? It gave Cutty the distinct impression that Hogwarts had privately taken aside each of it's witch students and made extra-special sure that they were certifiably mental before they were allowed to come to Hogwarts. The only exception to this, thus far had felt like it'd be Somerlad, but maybe she was the sort that reserved her best quality crazy for when she was crossed.
He looked up at her through the space where his eyes weren't covered, but then she'd taken a seat ENTIRELY TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT and started watching the game. Cutty didn't look at her. He was too busy trying to find a way to make it look like an accident when she fell off the grandstands. If only he hadn't chosen to sit close to some adults who might try to stop him. Some of them might be distracted, but would all of them ever be at the same time? Finally, he turned back to the older girl and spoke. "This isn't your seat! It's mine! Your seats over there, you fat Tebo!" He said pointing down the dirty ground.

Granted, she wasn't as fluent in the language as she was at the age of nine, but the girl didn't need to know. Emily was tempted, but not fooled into revealing the extent to which she was familiar with the language and by extension, the school. The girl probably wouldn't know her mother anyway, from memory her mother stopped teaching their seven years ago, opted for private tuition and curriculum development programs instead. Not to mention she wrote that heinous book.
"It's best not to make assumptions," she noted, "överraskning, can be an unpleasant thing."
She didn't make a direct response to the girls suggestion of talking sometime. They were talking now, and beyond that, she had no interest in the foreign visitor.
Emily looked past the girl for a moment, observing the events in the arena. Snargaluff business, now that brought back memories. After noting that Hogwarts were doing reasonably well, Emily returned her attention to the girl. "Will you be competing? Or only observing?" She asked in Swedish, see, they were talking.
Seren was at the edge of her seat, her palms pressed together, fingers twined together... almost like those snargaluff vines. She was impressed with the progress the girls were making, they were holding their own and their problem solving skills were paying off, even if not the most efficient, they were getting there. Beauxbatons appeared to be their main competition, Durmstrang seemed to have difficulty keeping up.
More than anything else, she wanted to call out and yell and cheer... but she was too focused on not missing anything, that all she could manage was the occasion "Wooooo" and some applause.

Karina narrowed her eyes slightly at the woman's comment. "Not many people understand Swedish in this area of the world. If any other language it would be French or German or Dutch or Spanish." She pointed out, also speaking Swedish. Yes, Swedish was close enough to Norwegian that they could converse with concentration, but other than that the probability of someone else knowing her language was very slight. It was a matter of odds that she had "assumed" the woman couldn't speak Swedish.
She personally agreed that surprise was a nasty thing, especially surprises like this one which took away an advantage she had. Even among Durmstrangers Swedish was a minority and so she had the upper hand in language there as well. It was an unpleasant shock to realize that here, especially here, she had a language partner.
Frowning slightly, she noted that when the woman spoke Swedish it was with a slight accent. Obviously she spoke it well enough to carry on a good conversation, but it was either a second language or very, very rusty. She would listen some more to try and discern where this woman was from.
Maybe if she got her talking more she could find out; in the meantime, Karina still had to answer the woman's question. "I'm observing now." she said slightly vague. Yes, of course she was participating, otherwise she would be back at Durmstrang studying, but there was no need for the woman to know that. Most likely this woman had already figured it out anyway. She scowled imperceptibly to herself and waited to hear more of this woman's accent.
Adelaide was a little later to the competition than she would have liked, but she had got distracted by Honeyduke's on the way to the arena. The bag full of sweets she had with her was perfect proof of that. She made her way to the stands, keeping an eye out for anyone she might know.
She saw a lot of new faces, but she couldn't find one she wanted. Addi went and found a seat to watch what was going on. She pulled a sugar quill out of her bag of goodies and started to chew on it as she watched.

And yeah. NO. She was not too concerned with the tiny person. Well he wasn't TINY. Just much smaller than her. She could take him with a flick of her wand. Easily. So there, there, little person. Calm yourself.

Meeting new people was something that Tessa was on the fence about. She really enjoyed her fellow Gryffindors and the friends she had already met, but she also enjoyed meeting other people from other houses. She just didn't like having to remember everyone's names...some people really didn't like it when she accidently called them someone else's names.

His body was being uncomfortably squished on the side this girl had chosen to sit against and his personal space ruthlessly invaded. He was uncomfortable and terribly annoyed. And above all else NOT MOVING, although he was resisting sliding against the stronger between he and the girl. He'd sat there first and it wasn't her seat, anyhow.

Adi looked closely at his friend. "Are you um...you know, feeling better?'' he asked. He was still feeling guilty about the existence of the possibility that it had been his fault that T had gotten sick back over the summer. And he had not had the heart to ask what had caused it. But now he wanted to know.
Adi turned his attention to the Hogwarts students but shook his head in response. "I slept in too,'' he admitted sheepishly. "But I heard Alec and West did really good!'' Wasn't that awesome? Someday, he hoped he'd be as good at magic as those two were.
Marissa looked over as another student introduced herself ans smiled at the girl. "Hi, I'm Marissa Buratta, Slytherin. And I'm glad I'm not the only one that doesn't know what's going on." she said with a laugh. "Nice to meet you." she added as she moved over.
She looked over and saw a fellow Slytherin being almost sat on by an older student. "Hey!" she called to him, "I've seen you in the common room haven't I?" she asked him. "Why don't you come over here where the rude girl isn't sitting on you." she said eyeing the older student. That girl obviously has no manners, she thought to herself as she waved the kid over.

Maybe if she got her talking more she could find out; in the meantime, Karina still had to answer the woman's question. "I'm observing now." she said slightly vague. Yes, of course she was participating, otherwise she would be back at Durmstrang studying, but there was no need for the woman to know that. Most likely this woman had already figured it out anyway. She scowled imperceptibly to herself and waited to hear more of this woman's accent.
The girl had a valid point, though, "Considering the nature of the event, it's not unusual to have international persons visit," ergo, still best not to make assumptions. Emily cracked a kink in her neck, it had been a while since she'd had to think so much prior to opening her mouth, served her right for letting her mothers language slip.
Observing now, as opposed to just observing. Perhaps she ought to stick around and see what the girl was capable of. She had some time to kill... "Well I wish you luck, the Hogwarts lot seem to be putting up a good fight." And rightly so.
Not contributing more to the failing conversation, Emily observed the students in the arena a little longer, occasionally keeping tabs on the the extent to which the girl was observing her. It was almost as if she was being assessed, for what exactly, she didn't know. Funny how these Durmstrangers always came across as so serious and paranoid, much earlier than necessary. Kudos to them.
Karina looked over at the only other Durmstrang student left in the stands, Cha. She had turned away from the woman sitting behind her and was now looking over into the arena where her boyfriend and her best friend were at work on the task. Although she regarded her own task partner with contempt, she still felt a certain amount of pride in knowing that Broni and Ström, and yes, Mischa too, would all do Durmstrang well in the coming events. "It's exciting, is it not?" she whispered somewhat to herself and somewhat to the Durmstranger sitting next to her.[/color]
Mischa was letting his eyes wander, observing the students, judges and other competitors. Everyone was chatting away. How boring. His eyes met Karina's when she turned her attention to him.
"Very,'' Mischa said thinking Karina had spoken to him. He knew Broni and Strom would do well. That left him and Karina to work on the final task. He knew she was a capable girl and she would be able to help him should he need the help. Though it was highly unlikely he would need the help.
Ascanius knew he was late, but her preferred to think he was making a grand entrance. 'Sides since he was gracing everyone with his face and presence lateness could be excused, yeah? Yeah. Smiiiirk.
Anyway, he climbed up the stands casually avoiding any opportunity to look down and found himself a nice neutral seat. Don't look down, Stark. Everything was fine. S'just like sitting on the ground...just higher...much, much higher.

How about you?" she was confident in both their abilities, the only thing she was secretly worried about was them working together. No. There was nothing to worry about, if she worried, Karina would not do her best, and she must do her best.
Now she spotted the person she was hoping to see. Moving down the stands she waved at everyone else, (Kace, Forrest, Bee, Kat, Flamsteed, Botros, pretty much everyone she passed as she walked) and stopping to say "Hello, excited for the events today?" along her way.
Before the task begun he noticed Minnie in the stands. He waved to her and smiled. He even had to strain his ears to hear her. The stands were loud with chatter and spirit for all the houses. He even saw all the students from other schools here with their headmasters and headmistresses.
He smiled at Minnie the head girl and said, "You bet i am excited! I never saw anything like this before. It will be really new to me." he nodded and was sitting there in anticipation. He also saw Adi and Forrest in the stands. "Hey guys!" he said waving to them each of them.

Mischa had been expecting no other answer. He knew Karina was a hard working student. He had been surprised when he learnt he was going to be partnered with her but after some thought, he decided she wouldn't be a bad person to have as a partner. But given their relationship... something that had never bothered Mischa until now. But he didn't make either of those thoughts known to his school mate.
They would have to look past that. For Durmstrang. Not moving his eyes from Broni and Strom, the seventh year told her ''I am ready. But it does not hurt to read a bit each night.'' That was something he did.
Minerva smiled bigger to his words, not that she felt she was gorgeous, but it was nice to hear from him and hugs, yes please. She wrapped her arms around giving him a hug back. She would take as many of these hugs as she possibly could when she could. Looking to the tasks it looked as if she wasn't going to see much. Well she hoped West and Alec would do well. She really couldn't see much. Maybe when the second task happened she would try to watch a little closer, but for now the person next to her was her main focus.
Smiling a bit more at his words she was glad he was excited for her. He had been the only person she really had to tell outside of school, so it was nice to have someone to share the moment with. "Yeah I'm honored to have been asked, but really nervous. I'm going to have to double up on studying and really manage my time more to get all of it in." She was nervous about everything now that it was getting later and later into term. She knew she still had plenty of time, but NEWTs, quidditch, and now this. Tilting her head a bit she smiled, "What subject do you think I would be asked to do?" Why not play a little game with him.
Looking up to Claudette she nodded, "We really need to do dinner more or just hangout anywhere really. If you ever need me best places to look are usually the library or ask someone to yell for me in the common room." That was pretty much her routines anymore other than the pitch and classes. She thought for a moment when she turned back into that lame first year that spent all her time at the library. She couldn't help but chuckle at the thought. "So who you cheering for? Old school or new school?" she was teasing really, Min didn't care who she cheered for it was her option since she had attended both now.
Just as she went to say more to Claudette she looked up to see Ariana sitting down near them. "Hey Ari" She smiled towards her best friend. "Having fun so far? I think we are doing well from what I can see, but it's kind of hard to see anything." She squinted down. They actually looked down. So that meant lunch break and then second task, right? She turned and looked at her little group that had formed, "I think it's a lunch break down. Anyone hungry?" She really wasn't, but would walk with others if they were.
Looking she grinned as a pickle loving, better hair than her own, great badger best buddy walked in. "Hey Kitty, come sit with us if you want." She looked around, "You know Ethan and Ariana, do you know Ethan's cousin Claudette?" If it wasn't for Indy, who she loved, Min would have so tried to fix Claudette up with Wade this term. Thoughts went to that stupid gossip paper, yeah maybe Claudette would have said no anyway after that stupid thing put her and Wade together. "Have you been here long, or just getting her? I think Alec and West just finished, but I could be wrong. It's so far away." Looking around she focused back on Wade, "Where's Indy?" She figured where Wade was Indy was usually.

Hmm.. maybe he ought to get here earlier for the next task whenever it happens. Hey.. was that? Yes! Hogwarts was clear to move on. Wade clapped very enthusiastically for them before pumping his fist. "YEA! Way to go Spiffy Lec and West!"
For the second task, Wade was quite excited to watch. After they all had lunch, and Wade was done with his third BLT+Pickle sandwich, he soon followed making his way for a better view.. Oh, hello there group. He smiled at Min who was with Ethan, Ariana, and Claudette. They got beaming smiles from him too. "Hey.. don't mind if I do." Joining right in the sit with them, "How are you guys doing? It's quite exciting, isn't it?" Now did he know Claudette? "Oh.. yeah," Looking at Claudette, "That stuffed animal of yours still good?" He remembered helping her out some with it.
"Just came back here myself," Grinning, "Yeah, it sure looked tough what they had to do." Well, you know between all the thinking. He knew enough about runes, but with Divination.. yep. Oh yeah, Indy's whereabouts. "She's at an appointment for career advice.. Said she'd be here eventually." Hopefully.. Anyway, now he was looking out towards the arena.... Say, it was the Chocolate lover and his Head Buddy now down there. "Whoa, I think it's starting again soon."

There was also a Wade who got a smile and a hot chocolate cup raise to him before he sat down with the group. " i wish i knew what was so exciting." she would know, if she came here earlier, but beauty sleep you guys, it's important. " next task will be more thrilling for me i hope." she KNEW. " i think Hudson is in the second part, or something." whatever her dorm mate said to her this morning, it was of some importance since the girl said she had better show up to support her or something.. whatever.
Claudette smiled at Minerva as she agreed to her idea about lunch or dinner or something. She really did like her cousin's girlfriend and thought of her more than just that.. a friend or family even.. and she felt like she hadn't seen her as much as she thought she might. Of course the other girl had her own friends and she wouldn't expect any more time form her than anyone else, but they could use some girl time. "Library or common room.. got it," she nodded. Neither of those places were ones she really visited, having belonged to a different house and not wanting to pay to get into the library, but she figured she'd still find her around. She thought over the question for a moment and allowed her green eyes to drift between the arenas of two schools. She still wasn't sure. The blonde turned back to Minerva and gave her a small smile and shrug. "Oh.. I don't know.. I'm still a Beauxbatons girl at heart, but it's hard not to want Hogwarts to win too. So.. both?" She chuckled knowing that was a lame answer. "What about you Ethan?" she turned the question on him next. "You went to both schools.. who would you cheer for?"
She looked up briefly as a couple more joined their group. Ariana who got a small, acknowledging wave and Wade who got a smile in addition to the wave. The French girl gave Min a nod.. yes, she did know her fellow prefect. "The unicorn is holding up quite well, thanks," she said, gratefully remembering his help with that attraction. "I ended up with two somehow.." she added with an awkward little shrug. That had been kind of weird, but whatever. Was this task finishing up? She heard a few cheers from the stands and turned her attention back to the arenas.
Ethan let his arm loosely drape around Minerva's waist as he sat next to her, leaning a little closer to hear what she had to say about this competition. He was really proud that she would be competing as well, though not at all surprised. She was one of the top students of the school. "Oh, I know you'll do great, Min. And you have great time-management skills, you'll handle that just fine.." It wasn't until after break anyway, right? He was sure she had plenty of time. He was just about to ask what subject she would compete in when she asked him to guess. "Um.. transfiguration?" he guessed after a moment's thought. It was one of her best subjects.. and he remembered her helping him with that subject fondly. That would be a fairly good guess as far as he was concerned.
He glanced over at Claudette as the two girls discussed who they'd be cheering for. It was obvious who Min would want to win, but Claudette? Even Ethan wasn't sure, though he'd figure Beauxbatons if he had to guess.. but apparently even she wasn't sure, he noticed with a chuckle. And when the question was turned on to him, he only needed a moment's thought. "I'd have to say Hogwarts.. I feel like I know the competitors from this school better." Not to mention he now knew his girlfriend would be competing. He gave her a smile and reached for her hand to give it a squeeze.
He noticed that Ariana had come and sat down next to Min on her other side and he leaned forward slightly to give her a nod in greeting. "Hey Ariana.. how's it going?" Oh, and there was Wade coming over to join them as well. He got a grin as he sat near their group. "Hey Wade.." At his words, he glanced back out to the competition areas, wishing he could see a little more. "It is pretty exciting," he agreed. "Especially with having the different schools all competing with each other.. though it would be nice if we were closer to the action," he added with a chuckle. He vaguely wondered if that focusing charm Flamsteed taught them last term would help in this situation.
Oh.. was it lunch time? The rumbling in his stomach told him that Minerva was right. "Sure.. I could probably eat something.." But that was pretty much a given. He could always eat.. especially when it was a meal time. "I can go with you though.." He came here to see her, he wasn't about to let her go serve him like that when he could take the walk with her.
