| | The Courtyard
A stone courtyard with columns surrounding the square in the middle is the perfect place for students to hang out. Benches have been provided for the students to sit on with friends or for those who want some peace and read their textbook. In the center of the courtyard is an antique fountain surrounded by statues of eagles. |

If Dora noticed the change in Olly's expression (which she did) it wasn't showing on her face. She simply held the other girl's gaze pensively. "Hm. Maybe you just need to practice more. Not using it won't make you any better." She shrugged. "Might just have a difficult wand." Her own wasn't the easiest to master, not that she was having difficulties with it. "Spells. Nothing bad like hexes or jinxes, just transfig' things." She tilted her head. "Or charms." Harmless spells in the best of situations. More practice? Olly just shrugged. Dora was probably right. Not using her wand definitely wasn't improving her skills. Not that she really minded. "It doesn't really bother me. I know the basics." She could do what she needed to do. Though some classes here had proved to be quite difficult for her. The idea of having a difficult wand made her pull it out, placing it on her palm. Hmm. "Maybe..." Could be.
Nothing she could do about that.
The look she was giving Dora was still VERY wary. Charms? Transfigurations? "You know how to undo these things too, though, yeah?" Why she was about to agree to this Olly wasn't entirely sure either. Boredom did wonders to your inhibitions apparently. |

Boredom did wonders to your inhibitions apparently. "It should. You're pretty much defenseless in the magical world without being about to cast more than the basics." It was the same as saying she had magic, but no control over it. Which made her defenseless. Or more dangerous, she wondered? Dora over thought this as she did most things while tapping her wand thoughtfully.
The wariness was noted, but still she remained unfazed by the facial expressions of the Hufflepuff. "Of course I do. We can start with simple spells if it'll make you more comfortable." She said helpfully.

She said helpfully. Defenseless? Olly frowned. "I don't really see any need to defend myself." She looked around for emphasis. There was no one attacking them. They weren't at war. She wasn't going to become an Auror or anything. "And you don't necessarily need magic to defend yourself." Smirking slightly more to herself than Dora, Olly shrugged nonchalantly.
If that made her more comfortable. HA! Yeah, right. Though she wasn't usually one to chicken out on things. So why not. It definitely served as the perfect distraction. Olly sighed but nodded all the same. "Okay. You can do whatever you want with me." Well, not WHATEVER she wanted to do but that was obvious, yeah? |

You're only going to use muggle tactics to defend yourself?" That seemed barbaric to Dora, who never went anywhere without her wand. She eyed Olly and remembered her halfbloodness. Then she shrugged. "No, but you won't win many fights against anything magical without it." And that was important since they were witches and all.
Dora didn't say anything else, since she'd gotten the permission she needed to do whatever she wanted to Olly. Whatever she wanted. That made her smirk. For reasons.
Straightening in her seat, she schooled her face and aimed her wand at Olly's face. Two taps were made, one between her eyes and one at the top of her head, and then a flick of her wand while she murmured the spells, just barely audible, before she finished what she wanted to complete.
Then she turned and started rummaging in her bag casually. "Feel any different?"

Then she turned and started rummaging in her bag casually. "Feel any different?" Okay, seriously, just how paranoid WAS Dora? Attacks, fights, just what was she talking about? "Who'd attack me?" She'd not included the question 'why' on purpose there because if she thought about it there probably WERE a few reasons why some people would want to attack her. Still that was far-fetched. It would never be a life-or-death scenario. And she could (sometimes) cast a shield charm.
The moment she'd given Dora permission Olly immediately regretted doing so. Practically placing your life (yes, slight exaggeration there but still) in somebody else's hand was so NOT her strong suit. That required trust and while she did think that the other girl was quite interesting and fun to be around, she had not quite come to that level yet and-
Now there was a wand pointed at her FACE. HER FACE!
It felt as if she was frozen to the spot though (and not because of the cold either) and she could only watch when the other girl tapped her wand between her eyes and then again on her head. What was................"No." Olly answered Dora's question automatically without thinking. No, she didn't feel different. "What did you do?" Somehow she wasn't sure she'd like the answer.
At least she hadn't died though. |

But then she told him that it was her second biggest fear. He smirked, cocking his head slightly and eyeing her curiously. He was tempted to ask her what her first was but he wanted to respect her privacy. "Well, I understand if ya don't wanna tell me. But you should know I would never make fun of you or laugh at you, for whatever it is." he said with a assuring smile.
Now it was his turn to share. Hmmm. He actually hadn't quite thought about it. Dylan had many fears, and it was hard to say which was his top one. "I think butterflies are my biggest..." he finally said in a quiet voice. And he was serious, too. It wasn't a joke. He really was afraid of them. Sure, they had the pretty little wings and all but...they freaked him out, they really did. Their faces with their weird, eerie looking eyes really scared him, and he felt like they were going to attack him or something when he saw them flying around. "Now, I'm sure your biggest fear can't be as embarrassing as that, can it?" he asked, nudging her and raising his eyebrows.
Should she tell him? Oh c'mon Bethany, it's not like he'd tell anyone. "Well...alright, alright." She said, putting her hands up in surrender. "It's a bit ridiculous, but my biggest fear is being eaten by an acromantula." She told him, her cheeks pink with embarrassment. "Spiders just scare me, I can't help it." Their red eyes, their skinny long legs, and oh man when they disappear! Horrible.
Wait, what? She could just barely make out what he said because it was so quiet, but she heard butterflies.. "That's understandable though. To be honest I don't like any insects at all. They have too many legs, it's abnormal and creepy." She smiled. "But hey, at least you can't be eaten by a butterfly!" She said with an amused grin.

He then listened intently as she explained her fear, and he waved his hand when she finished. "They spook me out too! And that's something normal to be scared of. Honestly, you would have to be mad not to be scared of a thought like that!" he said with a laugh. Honestly, it was kinda adorable in a way how that exact thought was her biggest fear. But he wasn't going to tell her that.
Relief swept over him when she didn't laugh at them. Well, they both had one thing in common: fear of insects. It was nice to meet someone who didn't find his fear amusing. "Yeah, I don't like any insect either." he added. Which probably sounded peculiar, coming from a boy and all. Then, the first year laughed. She did have a point. "Well, that is true." he said, giggling.

...And of course she'd been humming. But he wanted to sit with her. Well that was all right, right? "Sure." Addi shifted some of her things so that he could properly sit down. Hopefully this time she'd be able to keep the blush away from her cheeks. Probably not though. Because that face plus that accent. Yeah. She really did not care about all of the rumours going around about the foreign students. They were pretty. For the few seconds he stood waiting for her answer her wondered if she might refuse or mind. His self-esteem might be affected but he'd brush it off right away. However, that wasn't nesseccary seeing as he was allowed. At her approval, he smiled his easy lazy smile and slid next to her leaving an inch. Wouldn't want to crowd her or anything. "I'm Sébastien," he told her tilting his head towards her.
Did she know his name? He doubted that. So he figured it'd be nice to introduce himself and then she'd introduce herself as well. That's how it worked right? He sat with shoulders slouched and one swung over his other knee while his hand rested on his propped leg. "What are you reading?" he asked not bothering to hide his accent. She'd understand, hopefully.

At least she hadn't died though. "Anyone could. It's not like you're the nicest Hufflepuff in the castle. Do you really think it's not possible to annoy someone enough that they'd want to attack you?" Dora wasn't that trusting of strangers, or maybe she wasn't naive like Olly was. Or it could be the paranoia thing. But when you grew up with her grandmother... and her tutors... it was kind of expected. "Besides, you attend Hogwarts. I'm sure you've heard the stories." They weren't just stories. "Like the dementor attacks last year." Yeah. Needed wands to get them away.
Dora looked completely unbothered by Olly's surprise at a wand in her face. "That's why you should know how to use your own wand. I could have covered you in boils just now." She responded casually to the looks, possibley a bit condescending as well, though not purposely so. Not that she did cover the girls face in boils or she would have felt that. No, Dora finally found what she was looking for in her bag, pulling out a small mirror and holding it up to show the other girl her reflection.

"I'm Adelaide. Lovely to meet you Sébastien...did I pronounce that right?" Because French accents and all that with her London one. Probably didn't sound right.
Addi smiled as she watched him make himself more comfortable. How was she supposed to study now? But right her book. "Umm...my Runes textbook." Ahh that accent made everything sound better.

Names here were not ones his ears heard very often. Obviously because it was a different country. "Adeelaide," he repeated the name in his accent drawing out the letters slowly trying to sound like she did. He knew he did not but maybe it was close enough. And she, of course, did not get it perfectly right, it was the accent that differed but it was not badly said. "Eet's very cloze[close]," he told her with a smile. Oui, pretty girls got smiles.
Reaching out he slowly drew the book out of her hand and placed it on his thigh, brushing her hand in the process. "'ope you do not mind," He already took the book anyway. But she did not look like she was in a hurry. Like he cared. "Eet's not easy," he said flipping through the pages. "Do you like eet?" he asked looking up at her.

Another night, another bout of star gazing. Not that she minded or anything. Ella was a fan. A BIG fan. The only thing that could really make this better was if a certain hair ruffler had been with her but sadly she was alone. Probably for the best considering she'd need to concentrate and Alec made doing that extra hard. Mhm.
Setting up the telescope with ease, the blonde settled down and began her search for some of the stars, constellations, and planets on her list. It was a clear night so surely she'd be able to find something before it was time for her to head inside.
After a little bit, the blonde did spot a constellation and one that she was pretty pleased about. Gemini was right there and she double checked by locating Castor and Pollux. That was them, yeah? ...Yeah.
Cool beans.

Why was Sophie always in a bad mood when it came to this Astronomy project? Oh. Right. Because she'd waited until the last minute, as usual, and was stuck roaming the grounds trying to find everything at once. She still had a few more days, but even still, she didn't want to wait too much longer.
She levitated her telescope through the courtyard before deciding to stop at a random point and try her luck. She set up the telescope, got out her star chart just in case, and then began searching the skies. She saw a group of stars, but none of them really looked like they formed any constellation she knew. Finally, just when she was about ready to give up, she saw a certain formation that looked familiar.
She peered back at her star chart and compared the formation in the sky to the ones on the chart. PEGASUS. That was it! She knew this courtyard was lucky!

Bleh." he said, sticking his tongue out in disgust and giggling. Then, she changed the subject, thankfully. All this talk of insects and such was making him kinda scared. But he wasn't going to admit that... not to a girl...Summer. Summer. Hmmm. "Yes, I kinda am! I mean, I love it here and hate to leave. But I do miss my family," he told Bethany with a tiny nod of his head. "What about you?" he smiled at her.

So here she was again, searching the grounds for the many stars, planets, and constellations they were meant to find as part of their Astronomy projects. Sophie was running out of time, but she did think she could manage to find them all before they were meant to turn in documentation of their findings.
She'd had luck at the courtyard before, so she figured it'd at least be worth one more look. Maybe two of three depending on the next two groups she had to look for. She set up her telescope then pulled her star chart out of her bag. Using both, she searched the night skies for anything that might be on her list.
At first, she did find a few things, but nothing was on her list of things to find. BAH. Just her luck. She continued her search anyway, and pretty soon, she DID find something on the list. Grinning, she documented her finding of Gemini then packed up her telescope.

"Don't get me wrong, i'm thankful to be able to talk with them through letters and all but seeing them face to face after a whole school term is exciting." She added. Bethany was also glad that the weather was warming up, even if it was still a bit cold. "So anyway, what do you dream of becoming after you leave from Hogwarts?" She asked. Bethany realized that at the ripe age of eleven not many knew what they wanted to become when they got older. Even Bethany, who constantly asked herself the same question, couldn't come up with one answer. She did like to hear what others had to say though.

Now THAT was a very good question. "I do believe that it's possible to annoy someone enough that they'd want to attack me. I know so actually." She grinned though, not really taking Dora's fears seriously. "I'm very good at talking my way out of things though." So far that had always worked. Put the blame on other people. Distract them with something. Something always worked.
.......now THAT was a whole different story though. Olly frowned when Dora mentioned the things which had allegedly happened last term. "They got to someone on the school staff though. I doubt I would have been a match to those dementors either way." Which was extremely worrying to be honest. But then again, Hogwarts looked to be pretty much dementor-free for now so they should be fine. Hopefully.
Olly inhaled sharply but didn't move otherwise even though she REALLY just wanted to lift her hands to her face to make sure that Dora hadn't in fact covered it in boils. "You didn't though." She looked at the other girl, trying to read her expression. Naaaah, she wouldn't right?
A second later she had clarification. Wow. Olly reached out to take the mirror from Dora, her eyes fixated on her own reflection. "...I have to say I'm glad I'm not a natural blonde." It looked weiiiird. Just not like her at all. Her eyes eventually lifted to Dora's again. She agreed with her yeah? Now she was trying to picture a blonde Dora though. Hmm. |

A small amused smirk played on her lips at the next comment, and she rolled her eyes in good nature. "Doubtful, more like lucky. Not everyone is capable of being talked out of anything, especially if they're upset enough to use a wand against you." Dora, for one, was not capable of being talked out of anything once her mind was set. "Not fast enough...." Her expression turned slightly more pensive as she considered Olly for a moment. "I didn't take you for one to put your safety in the hands of others." It didn't seem very Olly like at all. No, she didn't. She made her blonde, and gave her blue eyes. "Blonde most certainly does not suit you." She nodded her head in agreement. "I prefer you brunette." So much that she raised her wand and changed the girl back to her original hair and eye colors. "I use that spell to change a few strands of my hair for matches."

Hadn't she JUST seen Pegasus over by the gate when she'd spotted the first constellation on her list? Alice was fairly sure she had, but repeating stargazing spots just sounded a bit boring. And Quidditch season was over, you know? The kid needed the movement, and carrying around her telescope could prove to be a sort of bodybuilding exercise or something.
Setting it up again, the sixth year spotted Andromeda right off the bat. 19th largest constellation and stuff, did she mention? And one of its neighboring ones was the 7th largest in the sky, one Pegasus, which had managed to elude Alice's sight until...
... now. Ta-da.

Oh.
Merlin.
Please.
Kat was dragging the telescope along with her, the blanket she took with her covering it. She made her way to the courtyard this time, because it was sort of near the Great Hall so that she could make her way to the dungeons afterwards. Because TIRED. Super duper tired. She'd be finished with this soon.
Determination. It was a Slytherin trait. Mhm.
After setting up her telescope, Kat bent a bit and squinted through the eyepiece. And then... the first one she saw was PEGASUS. Ha ha ha ha. Bingo. Kat checked that out of her list.
Sleep... so close yet so far. But reachable. She was almost there. GAH.

| Dani's Citrus Duck Spawn | Mama Giraffe | Lemon PATch | Pushed the Red Button "Maybe you should try levitating that, Kat," Alice suggested to the Head Girl, magicking her own up to a spot in the courtyard where she felt would do her stargazing wonders. Or something. It was a helpful tip, right?
Which constellations and planets and stars were left on Kat's list? She kind of wanted to ask, but began reassembling her telescope instead, scrubbing the lens clean with her sleeve before lowering her eye to it. Gemini, yeah? That was what she needed to find. The sixth year spotted Orion first, facing the charge of Taurus the bull, before recalling that those were both neighboring the constellation she was meaning to find. "Gotcha."
Now.. she was going to go get herself some corn.

Well, yeah. Maybe levitating was a bit more telescope-friendly rather than dragging it. Her brain should've thought of that before she was tired. "Right. Thanks," Kat said to the Gryffindor Captain. And then she tried not to yawn and failed, but at least she covered her mouth this time. She was in front of someone and she totally didn't forget her manners.
Kat levitated her telescope and placed it somewhere else so that she have a better view of the constellation she was looking for. Peeking inside, she was stars.
Lots of them.
And then, BAM Gemini. She found it. Woohoo. Sleep was so close.

Why did Mo continue to go stargazing in spots that obstructed his view of the sky? He wanted his soft grassy tuft back, but instead, Mo found himself straining to climb over benches and things in search of the perfect viewing location. Finally, he situated himself in a positively precarious position, leaning way out and looking upward toward where he had previously seen Andromeda.
Honestly, Andromeda and Pegasus were neighbors. This was just... oh yay! There he was! The winged horse himself, and that was QUITE a wingspan. Mo gave the horse a little salute and nearly fell and broken his noggin. That was decidedly not good, so Mo tightened his grip and held on for dear life as he better examined the beast in the sky.
"I think this one is my favorite," he informed... no one. Talking to himself. Not a good sign.

No, she didn't. She made her blonde, and gave her blue eyes. "Blonde most certainly does not suit you." She nodded her head in agreement. "I prefer you brunette." So much that she raised her wand and changed the girl back to her original hair and eye colors. "I use that spell to change a few strands of my hair for matches." Whoa, she'd never said she didn't know how to defend herself. Maybe not with her wand but there were other things she knew how to use. "You don't need a wand to the defend yourself." And the smirk on Dora's lips inspired another one on her own. Olly even leaned in slightly. "Oh, but everyone has their weak spot." And she only needed to distract them long enough. That had worked well so far so she didn't really see any need to change anything now.
Putting her safety into somebody else's hands? "I don't." Olly's frown deepened as she regarded Dora in silence for a moment. She honestly didn't. Just because she knew how to talk others into fighting her fights for her didn't mean she placed her safety into their hands. If she were to just idly stand by and HOPE they would protect her, well that would be a whole other story. But that's not what she did...........right?
Actually, the change of her eye color bothered her the most though. Her eyes were the ONE thing that brought out the resemblance between her and her little sister. And now they were...blue. Though Olly didn't voice those thoughts, naturally. No need to share this with Dora. Plus a moment later the other girl had changed her back again.
Letting herself be distracted from her own change just a second earlier, Olly tilted her head slightly to the side and simply looked at Dora. "Yeah? What color?" Did she change it to house colors? That WOULD actually make a lot of sense. |
